Make it about the people first and films second. Games like Hollywood Mogul just count people as a number that works out how good a film is and I think that's backwards. Have the people fully fleshed out and use the films to influence them

i would buy a Hollywood movie style game for sure.i have the games 'the movies' and 'Hollywood movie studio' and play them often....

A movie game along the lines of tew would be fun...where you have budgets and have to negotiate contracts with all your actors/actresses and film crew/writers etc....

It appears either a Racing game or a Hollywood studio sim are the front runners.

I've played Hollywood Mogul 1 and 2; both were deep but rather ugly to look at and cumbersome to use. Lots of depth and choices though. The recent failure of HM4 to be funded on Kickstarter ($120,000, really??) probably spelled the end of that series, though, sadly enough. I can picture a good, more modern looking version of those games to be lots of fun.

Hmm, seems I have a decision to make. I do like the Racing Car game idea, but find the Hollywood studio game to be interesting as well.

Coding aside, creating the default fictional universe would probably take up the most amount of work and what have you. This is something I definitely feel confident and comfortable helping out with, as I've made my own fiction TEW mods in the past and have a decent grasp on world building.

I'd love to see games for the movie industry, (as well as TV), but a game for the music industry would be pretty amazeballs too. I'll go ahead and add a racing sim to the list as well, but if I had to pick just one... movies. Yeah, definitely movies.

I also like the script set up as it was easy to use.

I think, what those of us who would like to see a GDS movie/entertainment mogul game, envision is a game which balances what HM does well with a game that actually feels alive. There is nothing in those games to make it feel like you are dealing with a live world.

It's the opposite with TEW. If I say Big Smack Scott, we all can picture an actual character with his own personality. And with HM, even when you add RL actors and directors you just never get the sense that the actor you chose for a role is anything more than an avatar for the numbers behind it. You have a comedy movie, you just pick the highest rated comedy actor within your budget and move on.

I would love to see some personality given to the actors/directors. I want train wrecks like Lindsey Lohan, Amanda Bynes, and Shia Lebouf getting arrested and losing public favor while you're filming their next movie. Or Terrance Malick popping up every few years with a script and causing a bidding war for the rights to distribute his next film.

I would also like for the characters to develop relationships that affect casting and/or production. You have Seth Rogen signed for a big budget comedy; perhaps his friendship with James Franco helps you land Franco at a discount for a small supporting role. Or maybe the bad experience with a director leads to an actor never wanting to work with them again ala Kevin Smith/Bruce Willis. Nothing like this happens in HM.

I would also like the characters to have more robust ratings. I don't want a rating telling me how good a director is at finishing a shoot on time. I want multiple factors going into it. A) does the director like to shoot 50 takes B) does the director like to re-write scenes/dialogue while shooting. Basically, am I dealing with Stanley Kubrik here? How organized is the director? Are they like Speilberg; do they pre-vis their work and animate scenes so they know exactly how they want to shoot it?

Did the 20 something yo party girl I hired OD in the middle of shooting and now I have to recast or get creative with the rest of shooting? Did I foolishly hire Terry Gilliam and now his set burnt to the ground and has to be rebuilt?

That's what I want affecting the timeliness of shooting and whether things go over budget, not a rating. These types of things add a sense that the world is moving and alive. And HM doesn't have that. I never tried Showtime because honestly it's just looked like a Flashy HM to me.

Anyway, that's just some of what I would like to see from a movie/entertainment mogul type game that I just havn't seen done before. I could go on for a while, but already approching tl/dr territory lol

This is a great idea. A mesh between Hollywood mongul and TEW. In other words a bigger focus on "making stars", chemistry, momentum, relationships and less of a focus on the financial side. What everyone likes about TEW is the roleplay aspects, so if we get a Holywood mongul game with a bigger focus on those aspects, it will make it an original type of game because the games out there such as Showtime, Holywood Mongul, Chart Wars etc, mainly just focus on the financials. I am not saying the financials should not be in the game, just it is pretty much the boring side of the game which eventually you figure out.

I guess some other aspects of TEW can come into the game as well, such as the regional growth, market sizes, regional/national preferences and we obviously need to have the "top fims", awards etc. Another thing i would love to see in the game is a lot of "random" things happening in the game. A lot of that will depend on the characters, their personalities ect. So that could mean things such as people getting married, divorced, having kids/adopting a kid. Going gay or anything interesting. We could have the other TEW type elements such as tendencies to become a smoker/drug addict etc. We could also have people "convert" over from Music/Wrestling or whatever similar to how it works in TEW, bringing with them a fan base and certain unique skills.

I think this would be the easiest to make as well, because it would be TEW with some added new elements. We could even have some of the TEW database move over (characters which retired or whatever move to join the film industry).

It's not even just seeing them crash and burn. Would love to see some redeem themselves and pull a Robert Downey Jr. as well. Just something that shows progression and life in the game world.

Just something that shows the characters careers are progressing. Maybe even something similar to TEW's mechanic where gimmicks grow stale. Could accurately portray the cycle of an actors career. Like Eddie Murphy, he was the king in the 80's but after a decade playing basically the same character, the audience became indifferent toward his movies and it took him reinventing himself as a PG13 family movie guy to get back on top. Something that showed that type of progression in the characters careers would be great.

I also like the idea of stale characters and the ability to play certain "roles", similar to how TEW has the character types and the ability to execute those types. I think the success of the film will depend mostly on the ability of the actors, chemistry, execution, hype and maybe trends as well, so simply adding a big budget and putting "groundbreaking" graphics wont cut it.

Based upon what i see, most people (over 40%) would prefer something other than what was proposed and most people are proposing a Hollywood game from what i see. I would love to see it done!

Maybe setup a new thread between a Car racing and Movie simulator. It seems those are the top 2 picks and it will narrow it down (assuming the Movie sim is appealing to you in general). It also makes less sense for a NHL / Horse racing / Soccer sims since there is already clear advanced competition in those.

Exactly cappyboy. It would bring fans of different series together. Also a cool feature would be like Andretti Autosport are trying. They have an Indycar team but are also entering a team in Formula E. You could either run a team, or you can run a company. I think it would be really popular among fans.

I don't think a horse racing game to the standard of the Football Manager series has been done yet.

There's the Starters Orders series which is good but I think GDS would have a better chance competing with them than Sports Interactive who develop FM.

Perhaps and Ice Hockey management game would be good. I know OOTP develop one but I think GDS could give them a decent run for their money.

As for movie management simulator. It's been done already by Lionhead Studios, it was called 'The Movies' and it was brilliant. It'd be hard to better it.

Alternatively, Cricket is a market which hasn't been done in great detail. There's battrick which still has loads of players despite development stopping on it for a while now iirc.

 • 2 weeks later...

It seems that we are still getting a racing game even though most people wanted the Movie game, lol. Still struggling to understand the logic in starting a poll regarding that if we were still going to get a Racing game.

Answering the questions that "the movie game has been done before", here is my response. Do you know how many racing games have been made? I downloaded one the other week called Racing manager 2014. We also have several racing simulator games online as well.

Put it this way, we have a lot more racing sim games out there than we do Movie simulators. Also, unlike Movie games, we also have a lot of Racing games which are not exactly the type which wants to be done here, but are racing games nevertheless with many of them having similar aspects, just on Wikipedia i found a good 30-40 of them:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_simulation_video_games#Racing_simulation

As for the Movie genre we have had maybe 4-5 and really none of them are active at the moment.
