NYCW GROUND ZERO

Sunday Week 2 September 2015

Held at Pennsylvania Park Att: 2000 (SOLD OUT)

PRE SHOW

Giving a couple preview matches with our new talent to see if there are any issues, and also had a training battle royale with the undercard, one surprisingly won by Geoff Borne (since I let Vessey pick the winner for it ). But the match provided some good looks as some of the undercard guys still showing solid effort, even after being pushed down the ranks by the newer additions recently.

MAIN SHOW

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/RockDownpour_alt2.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Ernie%20Turner_zpsofjuwwsc.jpg

Rock Downpour: Welcome to NYCW Ground Zero and we start things off with a bang tonight as Brent Hill, who challenged Bryan Holmes for the Empire title last month, tries to work his way to that shot and he faces off against the dastardly Art Reed, who joined DAVE after faking an injury and turning on his partners two months ago.

Ernie Turner: What Reed did was finally decide not to cater to these slack jawed fans who were leading him nowhere and instead join with a proven winning team. Tonight he will show his value to that team when he takes out Brent Hill and eliminates Hill’s challenge before it begins.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Brent%20Hill_zpsj0xqasxe.jpg VS http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Art%20Reed_zpsrkh9zque.jpg

Brent Hill vs Art Reed in a one fall match.

It’s a classic technical bout to start off with, but when Reed is unable to get the better of the exchanges he starts to use some shortcuts to try and keep Hill down. Reed even gets the Dreadlock on, but its too close to the ropes and Hill is able to force the hold to be broken. Hill rallies back and takes control and around the fifteen minute mark, has Reed planted in the corner. A quick rope climb and a King of the Hill leg drop later and Hill has Reed covered for the pinfall and the victory.

Brent Hill defeated Art Reed in 15:11 by pinfall with a King Of The Hill.

Match Rating C-

A very good opening match and a good start to the night. While Hill is actually a few years older than Reed, and both are beginning to decline in terms of their skill, Hill has more overness do to having a longer period of national exposure and Reed has slid down to mid-upper mid level with all the newer arrivals. His turn was necessary to even out the numbers and was part of my long term plan, but it didn’t give him a momentum boost or rise him up the ranks like I thought it might originally. Still the more people that can give good performances like this , the better.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JackGriffith.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Dean%20McWade_zpssx8gj8sz.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/ClarkAlexander_alt1.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Running%20Wolf_zpsd1cly9os.jpg

Hill’s triumph doesn’t last long as Griffith and McWade hit the ring and attack Hill. Both men double team Hill, who tries to fight back valiantly but is already tired from a hard match and now outnumbered. But just as Griffith is going for the Jack in a Box, help comes in the form of Clark Alexander and Running Wolf! The DAVE crew bail out of the ring as they are not as eager now that the numbers have been evened up.

Rating D+ ( DAVE attack)

Rating C- ( Alexander & Wolf save)

Doing double duty for advancing my main storyline and also providing some hype for the upcoming tag match between Alexander and Wolf against Griffith and McWade.

Rock: There is definitely a lot of bad blood building between DAVE and a lot of the top contenders such as Alexander, Wolf, Ota and now Hill.

Turner: There’s always resistance to change even if the change would be beneficial in the long run. DAVE is all about revolutionizing the industry, changing the status quo, and there are always those stuck in the mud types that don’t like change and fight against it.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/NYCW_alt-1.jpg

Rock: Speaking of wanting to bring about change, the Trescarde Corporation has long stated their goal is to make NYCW a better performing business so as to increase their investment, but they have suffered some setbacks recently, such as not being able to force Steve Flash to retire and now losing their executive troubleshooter Man Mountain Cahill. So Monty Trescarde has gathered his forces and he and Brutal Honesty are having a team builder 6 man match against the trio of Marv Statler, Masked Mauler and Matty Faith.

Turner: This should be the perfect opportunity for the Trescarde Corporation to get back on track. They are a well oiled machine on the same page while they are going against two men with great tag team success, but who don’t have their partners with them, and Matty Faith who is still just really learning this business. They shouldn’t post too much of a threat.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/MarvStatler.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/TheMaskedMauler.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Matty%20Faith_zpsnkcyxyfe.jpg VS http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Andrew%20Harper_zpsml4eiofi.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/HonestFrank.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Monty%20Trescarde_zpsueecob6e.jpg

Marv Statler, Masked Mauler and Matty Faith VS The Trescarde Corporation ( Brutal Honesty & Monty Trescarde) in a six man tag team match.

Lots of action in the ring as everyone had some moments of offense at least. Trescarde could be seen yelling when he was in the corner at his teammates in the ring, especially Frank, to prove their worth to him and the Trescarde Corporation. But the corporate pep talk wasn’t enough to motivate the troops when things break loose and Faith and Statler are brawling with Harper and Trescarde around the ring while Masked Mauler escapes a Frank N Hurter attempt and then locks in his Iron Claw on Frank right in the middle of the ring. With his partners prevented from helping Frank, and not being able to reach the ropes, Frank has no choice but to tap out.

Marv Statler, The Masked Mauler and Matty Faith defeated Trescarde Corporation (Andrew Harper, Honest Frank and Monty Trescarde) in 10:30 when The Masked Mauler defeated Honest Frank by submission with an Iron Claw.

Match Rating D-

This result was purely because Frank’s contract came due and with Vessey’s new hiring restrictions, he became superfluous. All things being equal, I probably would have extended him a couple years, even though his ring work is fading, as he is still a good talker and still served a useful role teaming with Harper, but at this point he wasn’t valuable enough to fight with Vessey over it, especially with the owner’s desire to get a little younger and also start trimming down our payroll. A year and a half ago when I first started the Trescarde Corporation story, I envisioned it being more important than it has turned out to be, but then again at that time, I never would have expected to add as many big name talents to our roster that we have. It’s a classic example of how you always have to be flexible and fluid in your plans at this level as you never know who you will lose ( or gain) that can change the balance.

Rock: That has to be a shocking upset for the Trescarde Corporation as you can see Trescarde is disgusted and verbally haranguing Honest Frank all the way to the locker room. But on a lighter note, its time once again for my partner Ernie Turner to present our lovely valets in a tribute to our troops and police and firefighters on the monthly anniversary of one of the most tragic events in New York history.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Ernie%20Turner_zpsofjuwwsc.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/CheerleaderNicki.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/HaleyBuck.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Missy%20Masterson_zpsx1fgj1on.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Krissy%20Angelle_zpszkex3dx1.jpg

Ernie Turner is in the ring, and the valets come down one by one, Haley in fatigued colored shorts and tank top with an army helmet on, Cheerleader Nikki in a sailer cap and Japanese schoolgirl sailor suit outfit. Krissy Angelle comes up with a sexy copy uniform and cap with NYPD on it while Missy Masterson comes down wearing what seems to be a fire jacket ( and little else) and an FDNY fire helmet on. Ernie gathers the girls in the ring, then asks the sold out crowd to share in a moment of silence for those that lost their lives on 9\11. After the crowd observes the moment of silence, Ernie then conducts the customary cheer selection for which valet has the best costume this night, and the crowd cheers loudest for Missy Masterson.

Rating C

While some may consider this disrespectful, and even the name of the show in bad taste, I look at it a different way. I consider it more of a tribute and to show that we will never forget that tragic day, nor will we run and hide, or cower in fear, or fail to live our lives to the fullest because of those who try and sow fear and terror. Instead, we will honor our fallen by remembering their courage and sacrifice and celebrating their lives in a joyful way. The moment we live in fear, that we change our lives because of the influence of terrorist actions, is a moment that they won and I for one will deny them any victory, no matter how small.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/NYCW_alt-1.jpg

Rock: They’ve already had one dust up today, but now Clark Alexander and his partner Running Wolf will face DAVE members Jack Griffith and Dean McWade in the ring coming up next.

Turner: DAVE has made no secret of the fact that they have a philosophy and a vision for the revolution of NYCW by infusing the spirit of the old DAVE promotion and that they will react harshly to anyone who stands in that way. They have thrown down the gauntlet and stated ‘if you are not with us, you are against us’ and they are going to teach Wolf and Alexander that being against them is not a good place to be.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/ClarkAlexander_alt1.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Running%20Wolf_zpsd1cly9os.jpg VS http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/JackGriffith.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Dean%20McWade_zpssx8gj8sz.jpg

Clark Alexander & Running Wolf VS Jack Griffith & Dean McWade in a one fall tag team match.

This was a fist flying, hard fighting match , with only Alexander trying any actual combinations of moves past a slam and clothesline. Both sides have an intense dislike of the other that is evident throughout the match. Over twenty minutes of back and forth action come to an end when Alexander is able to land the Ice Breaker DDT on Dean McWade and cover him for the pinfall, while Running Wolf intercepts Jack Griffith to prevent the save.

Clark Alexander and Running Wolf defeated Jack Griffith and Dean McWade in 20:30 when Clark Alexander defeated Dean McWade by pinfall with an Ice Breaker.

Match Rating D+

Giving some momentum to the faces as part of the overall storyline and to lead into what is coming up next.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Brent%20Hill_zpsj0xqasxe.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/ClarkAlexander_alt1.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Running%20Wolf_zpsd1cly9os.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/FumihiroOta.jpg

Brent Hill and Ota, the Dragon Warrior come down to the ring and join Clark Alexander and Running Wolf as Griffith and McWade retreat back up the entrance way now that the numbers are clearly against them. Hill grabs a microphone.

Hill: You know Bryan Holmes, you and your new ‘DAVE’ have espoused this ‘revolution’ but really all you have done is form a gang and try and get others to join or step aside by using intimidation and numbers advantage, but that isn’t going to work for you anymore. You see, these men with me here have their own scores to settle with the people in DAVE and you aren’t the only ones that can play the numbers game.

Alexander: You see it’s like this. You want to face us one on one, two on two, etc we will meet you in that ring anytime and anywhere and fight as warriors should. But if you want to try and gang up on us, the others here will be watching each other’s backs to stop you.

Wolf: I am proud to be part of this noble alliance that believes in true honor, and true competition in the ring, unlike the dishonorable DAVE who would prefer to cheat than win with honor, like you Art Reed!

Ota: The Dragon normally hunts alone, but when there are large numbers of prey, then the Dragon will join others in the hunt. DAVE, you have awoke the Dragon and now you have become the prey.

Hill: I was part of the East Coast Wars. I was there when DAVE exerted it’s influence, became the cult icon you all claim to follow and I saw it’s revolution first hand when it destroyed the other regional companies in the Tri-State area. But I also saw DAVE fold and collapse when confronted with a greater power. A power that all of us here have been a part of at one time or another and that power was nationwide! DAVE had a vision but it was flawed and short-sighted, just as yours is. And just like that DAVE couldn’t compete on the national scene, your group will fall to us for we are the Nationals!!

Rating C

When making the plans for the DAVE faction, I knew there had to be a counterpoint to it and when figuring out how to do it, once I signed Running Wolf, and figured out who would probably be the main opponents for the DAVE faction, the similiarity of Ota, Wolf and Alexander all having been part of one of the National promotions for a lengthy period hit me. The plan to have them join forces in a loose alliance to oppose DAVE solidified when Brent Hill agreed to sign as he provided a big enough name to be the figurehead of this Nationals group. So now the build up is complete and the stage is set to begin the next phase of our main storyline ( as well as hopefully give us several high level matches over the coming months.)

Rock: DAVE better watch out, now that the Nationals are together to stand against them.

Turner: They may say they are together, but they don’t share an united vision like DAVE does. And once it comes to the Empire title, I bet they fracture apart like shattered glass when they revert to every man for themselves.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/NYCW_alt-1.jpg

Rock: I’m certain they all want the Empire title, but I seriously doubt they would desert their comrades , say the way that dastardly Art Reed did. Speaking of titles, Tri-State Champion Frantic Ali faces a stiff test as he goes against the former 3 time Empire Champion Steve Flash who is looking to add yet another title reign to his already stellar resume.

Turner: Yeah Flash may want another championship, and if this was 5-10 years ago, I’d lay odds on his being able to take it. But this Steve Flash is a shell of the man who won those Empire titles and a detriment to the future welfare of NYCW, which is why the Trescarde Corporation has been working to remove him. Ali can do the Trescarde Corporation, and himself a huge favor by finally putting that old horse to pasture.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/NYCW_TriState_alt.jpg

Steve Flash VS Frantic Ali © in a one fall match for the NYCW Tri-State Regional Championship

While it was clear that Flash didn’t have near the same speed as he used to and even his usually impeccable holds and moves weren’t as crisp as they used to be, his vast experience allowed him to go toe to toe with the far faster and more agile Ali. But while that experience and knowledge allowed him to keep things even, his body didn’t respond quite as reflexively as it used to when an opening presented itself, and Ali was able to stifle Flash’s attempts to maintain the offensive and finally after twelve minutes of action, Ali was able to secure the victory following a Death Valley Driver.

Frantic Ali defeated Steve Flash in 12:58 by pinfall with a Death Valley Driver. Frantic Ali makes defence number 2 of his NYCW Tri-State Regional title.

Match Rating D

A decent match no doubt, but also a sign of Steve’s decline in that he should be able to get a better match out of a rising talent like Ali as overall this was only slightly better than the 6 man tag match earlier tonight. As Steve’s time gets closer to ending with us, weather by retirement or his contract coming due, he provides his value by matches like this putting over rising talent, even though he wasn’t thrilled with jobbing to someone still in the midcard and half his age.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/NYCW_alt-1.jpg

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/American%20Buffalo_alt1_zpshfjx1zsh.jpg

Ali is celebrating his victory, but the celebration doesn’t last long as the screen lights up with the scene of thundering buffalo herds, interspersed by scenes of the man whose entrance this is shown stampeding people. Ali tries to run up the entrance way past the American Buffalo, but Buffalo just picks him up over his shoulder effortlessly , tosses him back in the ring over the top ropes, and then gets in the ring, whips Ali off the ropes and plants him with The Stampede. Buffalo then picks up the Tri-State title, sneers at it a little and then drops it on top of the prone Ali. Flash, who is just getting to his feet, now gets the attention of the monster, who plays no favorites and swats Flash down with a tremendous clothesline before picking him up, getting a running start and Stampeding Flash on top of Ali then stands menacingly over their bodies as the monster’s rampage continues unabated.

Rating B

Once again, American Buffalo doing what he does best, being the unstoppable monster and getting over on his menacing persona.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/American%20Buffalo_alt1_zpsdizh6jla.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Krissy%20Angelle_zpszkex3dx1.jpg

As Ali and Flash are helped to the back by attendants following the carnage wrought by the monster American Buffalo , who is still in the ring, Krissy Angelle walks down to the ring wearing a midriff baring t-shirt that says ‘Face of an Angelle’ on the front and ‘Body made for Sin’ on the back and enters the ring. Far from being trepidous with the mammoth Buffalo towering over her, instead she goes over with a microphone in hand and puts her hand on his shoulder.

Krissy: By now, everyone here should know who I am, if you can get your eyes off my perfect body for a moment. You see, I am more than just fantastically gorgeous, I am also incredibly brilliant. In PSW, I was the manager of champions such as Nelson Callum and Ash Campbell. But PSW wasn’t big enough to hold my interest for long, so I have come here to NYCW the fastest growing company in North America where once again I intend to manage champions, and to start off with , I have secured the services of the unstoppable monster American Buffalo here. The man who has carved a path of destruction through NYCW for the past few months and who singlehandedly just took out the Tri-State Champion and your most revered NYCW icon Steve Flash effortlessly. We don’t care about DAVE or the Nationals, as far as we are concerned they can beat each other senseless and we will just watch and enjoy because no one can stop the rampage of the American Buffalo especially with me to guide him.

Rating C-

While Buffalo is capable of doing his own promos, I felt Krissy could provide more value than just being another pretty face in the valet contests. She built a solid reputation as a manager in PSW and that reputation and her other skills besides her looks are something I thought would be a good fit with her own small stable of talent, of which American Buffalo is the first.

Rock: When will this carnage by the American Buffalo be stopped and what is Krissy Angelle’s ultimate goal.

Turner: It would probably be titles, but even American Buffalo can’t believe he can go up against DAVE to get to Bryan Holmes alone. One on one, no one can stand up to Buffalo, but DAVE outnumbers him four to one and with Krissy Angelle now managing him, he isn’t going to do something recklessly stupid.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/NYCW_alt-1.jpg

Rock: Speaking of the Empire Champion, last week one half of the tag team champions Marv Statler proved to be a very tough test for the champion, and now he faces his partner Dean Waldorf.

Turner: I know the Ring Generals have their competitions with each other, but in Waldorf’s wildest dreams, he can’t think he really has a chance against the Empire Champion.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/DeanWaldorf.jpg VS http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Bryan%20Holmes_zpsk6ddfvar.jpg

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/NYCW_Empire.jpg

Dean Waldorf VS Bryan Holmes© in a one fall match for the NYCW Empire Championship

Waldorf and Statler are very similar but Waldorf is just bit more athletic and a little tougher than his partner and it shows here as he is able to take the brunt of Holmes assaults and keep coming back for more. He gives the champion everything he has and even scores some near pins on Holmes, who manages to kick out or grab a rope to avoid the upset even after getting hit with a Waldorf Tossed Salad. But Holmes takes control around the fifteen minute mark and methodically softens up Waldorf with elbow drops and stomps to the legs of Waldorf before finally putting away the younger man with a Final Impact.

Bryan Holmes defeated Dean Waldorf in 17:37 by pinfall with a Final Impact. Bryan Holmes makes defence number 4 of his NYCW Empire title.

Match Rating C+

WOW! Given that Dean and Marv are very similar in size and style, I was expecting something comparable to last month’s match, but Dean seemed to have that little extra being in sync when working with Holmes that made the moves a little crisper , the transitions a little smoother and overall just elevated the match a little to make it arguable the best match in NYCW in the past couple years, even slightly better than the Hill-Black challenge match from Gang Wars.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/NYCW_alt-1.jpg

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/FumihiroOta.jpghttp://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Bryan%20Holmes_zpsk6ddfvar.jpg

After the match is over, steam fills the entrance way and when it clears, Ota, the Dragon Warrior is shown. He makes his way to the ring, climbs in and locks eyes in a staredown with the Empire Champion. Silently he points at Bryan Holmes and the Empire Championship, clearly naming himself as the next person to accept Holmes open challenge.

Holmes grabs a microphone.

Holmes: Ota, I already beat you once with this belt on the line. Now you have to wait your turn. But since you are so eager to challenge someone and since you and your ‘National’ buddies want to try and stand in our way, I had a little surprise prepared in case you decided to stick your nose in my business tonight. Go ahead and form your little group because it doesn’t scare me. DAVE grows stronger and stronger every month. You want a fight? You are gonna get one from a man who is DAVE through and through, the ‘King of the Streets’!

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Kurt%20Laramee_zps8u4swzge.jpg

Right then some rap music plays and out from the back walks a well built black man wearing a steel chain around his neck. Fans instantly recognize the man as for multi time DAVE Brass Knuckles Champion and 2 time SWF Tag Champion Kurt Laramee!

Despite being obviously aligned with DAVE, Laramee gets a good pop from the crowd as he enters the ring, stands side to side with Holmes and takes the mic from him, and addresses Ota, who has back away into the corner and stands in a ready stance. But Holmes slides out of the ring and leaves Laramee alone with Ota.

Laramee: You know Dragon man, I get where your little group is coming from. Like you I’ve been up there with the big boys on the national scene. And while I was there, I learned it was all a crock man! Unless you were one of their ‘boys’ all they would do is hold you down and keep you from being able to be the man! Sure the money was nice, real nice. But there comes a time when money is less important than respect! Back in the streets where I grew up, without respect you were nothing. Them boys on the national scene didn’t respect me or my skills and constantly held me down. But I remember my time in DAVE. There I earned the respect of men like Tyler and Nemesis and there I could go as far as these two fists could carry me! So when I learned my boy Bryan was bringing the ideals and philosophy of DAVE back to my old stomping grounds here in New York, well, I just had to be a part of it. And I can’t think of a better way to come back than a fight! So get ready Ota, because the King of the Streets feels like a little Dragon slaying right now!

Rating C-

Laramee got released from SWF back at the end of February when his contract expired and his partner Big Smack Scott took a contract from CGC. Apparently having nothing for him, they didn’t re-sign Laramee either, though from what I can tell he wasn’t showing and decline in his skills, in fact he was still getting a little better. I contacted him then, but he wasn’t interested in talking. A few months later, seeing no one had signed him yet, I contacted him again, let him know what we were doing with this DAVE storyline and this time he agreed to a contract. Seems a few month of him being inactive coupled with our recent surge of quality shows and growth had changed his mind concerning us.

Rock: The King of the Streets Kurt Laramee has come to NYCW! Who would have believed it?!

Turner: And he's made DAVE even stronger than ever. I bet Ota is regretting his challenge now.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/FumihiroOta.jpg VS http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n329/Dragonmack/Kurt%20Laramee_zps8u4swzge.jpg

Ota, the Dragon Warrior VS Kurt Laramee in a one fall match.

Ota is unfazed at taking on the powerful brawler Laramee and in his usual methodical action, counters every blow that Laramee attempts at the start of the fight. Feeling a little frustrated at not being able to land a blow, Laramee changes things up and head butts Ota. Laramee goes on the attack with fists, chops, slams and elbows to try and batter Ota into submission, but in true oriental fashion, Ota refuses to show the obvious pain he must be in and continues to rally back time and again, getting in a few nice kicks or arm drags before another heavy blow derails his momentum. Still, as the two men fight for over twenty five minutes the match is undecided until Ota goes for his patented Ninja Strike. But Laramee manages to catch Ota’s foot, spin him around and then plant him with his Switchblade Powerslam! Laramee covers Ota and gets the victory in his debut.

Kurt Laramee defeated Ota, The Dragon Warrior in 27:36 by pinfall with a Switchblade Powerslam.

Match Rating D+

Well that was somewhat disappointing. I don’t know if it was a combination of Ota not having his best night, or maybe a little ring rust on Laramee’s part but this match didn’t have quite the impact I was hoping for, even with the crowd being excited by the match.

OVERALL SHOW C-

The Main event falling a little flat after the exciting Empire title match kept this show from hitting the level of the previous 3 months, although I don’t think it was much below them overall. Hopefully the plan I have for next month will push back up again.

I don't know if its the website or because I am using Microsoft edge and windows 10, but formatting on the site is becoming more of a pain. first the responsiveness crawls to a snails pace, forcing me to post half way through editing and then go back in to re-edit then it wants to mess up the pictures, and skip lines from the url even with direct pasting.

Pretty much identical on the predictions, with everyone missing on the Trescarde Corporation match. Of course that because of Honest Frank being gone due to Vessey's no one over 42 hiring restriction.

I figured no one was going to get the DAVE person, especially with the red herring of Caulfied and Datsun being released that month. Datsun is too old for the restriction and I already have enough people on time decline. Caulfield is pushing the limit in age terms, and is also declining and he wasn't at a high skill level to begin with.

Despite the disappointing debut, Laramee should be a much better options than either Datsun or Caulfield at this stage. He still has C level pop in US and Canada and although he's pretty one dimensional brawler\hardcore ( and only mid 50's at that) he does have some good performance skills and is still improving, plus he has over 70s in the charisma scores, meaning he can give a decent promo and is the best talker in the DAVE group.

I headed down to the monthly meeting knowing that the conversation was going to be really interesting this month, especially after the news I had read in the trade websites. I walked in and sat across from the owner Larry Vessey.

Vessey: I assume you saw the article on TEW.com?

Mack: You mean the one where PSW says, and I quote " NYCW is just an upstart company who will fade into the background like they always do and if they want to try and take on the true best promotion in the Tri-State area, PSW they will end up like XFW, PPPW and RPW did in the East Coast Wars."

Vessey: We have been beating them in ratings in the Tri-State area and the surrounding regions pretty steadily the last few months and we fill the Park just as easily as they do.

Mack: Yeah, they definitely have taken a hostile tone. I wouldn't put it past Naess to declare war on us but he's probably not sure he can win. They lost two of their best talents Steven Parker and Matthew Keith to CGC and even though they added Frankie Perez, he's just as liable to go to Japan so its a major risk to build around him. I learned that lesson the hard way a few years ago. It's why I only bring him in for talent trades and short term deals now. Their main event scene is basically Perez, Greg Black and continuing to ride the nostalgia of Johnny Martin.

Vessey: So how do you plan to respond? I don't think we have a decisive edge over them yet.

Mack: I already responded, although not in the trades. Instead I sent Naess a much clearer message.

I tossed a folder on his desk. Vessey opened it up.

Vessey: Dammit kid, I thought I said to hold off on the signings!

Mack: Relax. We just took Frank's salary off the books and this guy's price is less than half what Frank was making. Plus , according to my friend Thomas Morgan, this Ernest Youngman is one of the most talented kids he's seen in his 20 year career. He has Rip Chord\Sam Keith potential in the long run and Naess has him jobbing out to Xavier Reckless to try and keep the big boys away from him, and despite that the guy is still getting over and he's only 22. You keep saying you want to get younger and this guy has future star written all over him. I signed him to send a message to Naess that I am not bothered by his threats. Honestly if I felt sure we could win a war against him right now I'd have signed the three or four really good people he has on that roster and gutted him. Give it a few more months of our momentum going and guys like Youngman putting us as the priority and I dare him to declare war on us.

Vessey: I don't like adding more payroll, but we did make a 5k profit this month so I am feeling somewhat generous. Besides I do enjoy you tweaking his nose. He's probably pissed off he didn't think of the DAVE storyline idea first.

Mack: Most likely. That is Naess's problem, he never did have Phil's vision. He just took the hardcore part of the old DAVE and overlooked that it was more than that. Now we are beginning to be a serious threat to their position in the region and either he wants to try and intimidate us or maybe he is trying to get us to invite him to COTT but doesn't want to make the first move as it would make him look weak.

Vessey: So how do you plan to keep our momentum going? That last show wasn't bad but it didn't raise the bar either.

Mack: I know. Holmes title defense was an excellent match but the Laramee debut follow up match didn't quite deliver as well as I hoped. So this month I am going to have our other recent signee debut on the main show against Holmes in a special challenge match and I think it will deliver the results that will keep Naess still safely behind us.

Vessey: Ok, get the final match plans to me. Things are really starting to get interesting around here David.

As I headed out, I silent agreed with Vessey that it certainly was getting interesting. If Naess and PSW did go to war with us, I thought we had a 50\50 chance right now. We had the better shows, they had a bit higher reputation and it was a toss up which of our promotions wrestlers would decide to work for if they had to choose. Youngman, although a talented young man and a valuable addition to our roster, was merely a test. If I had felt sure that he and others would jump to us over PSW, I would have signed Callum, Perez and Greg Black regardless of what Vessey said as that would have gutted Naess's roster of its best talent.

With PSW’s new hostile attitude towards our promotion, I felt a need to keep even more of a watchful eye on the happenings around the wrestling world, not only for possible moves we could make, but also to scout out moves PSW might make against us or to improve themselves. So I dug into the trade sites and sifted out the news for September 2015.

NEWS

  • Apparently PSW isn’t the only one with hostile feelings as BCG and Hinote Dojo also have a hostile relationship now.
  • Belle Bryden aka Wanda Fish, has decided to take her experience as one of the top female wrestlers in US history and use it to guide the next generation as she opens the Canadian Women’s Wrestling Federation. She then brings in veteran road agent Art Lawson to handle the bookings.
  • Far less new faces this month as only 5 new names enter the wrestling scene.
  • First is MUSCLES Serizawa who despite only being a middleweight has developed a powerful body due to heavy gym work. He is working the independent scene in Japan.
  • Next is 22 yr old Australaian brawler Gareth Case who goes by the nickname ‘The Serial Killer’. He also will be paying his dues on the independent circuit.
  • 19 yr old joshi Nami Genda enters the Japanese market, but with 5SSW roster already full with their recent graduates, she will have to work the indy circuit and hope to draw attention.
  • One of those 5SSW dojo graduates is Hikaru Takagi. A large women by any standards at 6’2” and 245lbs she is brought onto the main roster.
  • Last but not least is the latest incarnation of Elemental, Elemental IV who was trained by Ray Diaz and graduated from the PGHW dojo. Unlike the other Elementals, he is not a super junior style, and he will be working in development at SAISHO.
  • Some come and some go as a couple of veteran Japanese wrestlers retire from the ring this month.
  • First is 47 yr old Toshiki Shibanumo who spent a few years in GCG before moving on for the last decade with BHOTWG. While never more than a midcarder at best, he did manage a world tag title run with each promotion.
  • Next is 51 yr old Masayuki Shiga who spent a decade in PGHW where he captured the Historical Japan title twice, before moving on to BCG in 2011 and providing veteran guidance for the new promotion till his release last year.
  • Brendan Idol, who was just starting to get regular work again with companies WPL and L-Ring will be sidelined for 3 months with a strained rotator cuff.
  • Multi-time NOTBPW tag champion the Natural may see the end of his career at age 43 as he has been diagnosed with a major concussion and will be out of action for over a year. As a result of the injury, he will have to vacate the NOTBPW Television championship as well.
  • Unable to find a station to broadcast it, TCW’s Presents Total Wrestling will no longer air. This leaves TCW Saturday Night Showcase as TCW’s only regular broadcasted show.

SIGNINGS AND LEAVINGS

  • 5SSW sign dojo graduate Hikaru Takagi.
  • BCG sign Tsurayuki Kamachi and Yuki Horogshi but bid farewell to Toshinobu Taku.
  • BHOTWG sign American Elemental from WLW.
  • CGC allows former 2 time tag champion Grease Hogg to depart the promotion.
  • CWWF signs it’s initial roster and staff, including Streetz, Marvin Earnest, Steffi Chee, Emma Bitch, terry smith, Jocelyn Perry, Belle St Pierre, viv Jacobs, Eve Grunge, Matthew White, Jana Marie Bowen and Rogers Rogers.
  • DIW loses Blaze Maximum, Monday Next and Angus Mcmiller to RAW.
  • African Earthquake, formerly known as Dr Insane, departs EWA.
  • GSW sign Running Wolf.
  • Toju munkata signs with Hinote Dojo replacing the departing ninja shunji. Reaper Dante and Diamante Azul sign for the next tour.
  • L-Ring signs Frankie Perez.
  • PSW also sign Frankie Perez.
  • PGHW sign dojo graduate Elemental IV and assign him to SAISHO.
  • RAW has some turnover as they bring in Blaze Maximum, Monday Next,Warmonger and Angus McMiller but say goodbye to Echo, Black Flash and Manhunter.
  • Dazzling Dave Diamond apparently wasn’t too dazzled with his time in RMW as his history of not getting along with bookers continues following a fallout with Dale Kenney. So DDD is no longer part of RMW.
  • VWA sleeps better now that the Night Spyder has left.

TITLE CHANGES

  • Tracy Brendon upsets Grace Harper to win the AAA Femme Fatale title and end the near two year reign of Harper.
  • Lanny Williams beats Harry Simonson for the APW Australian title, ending the latters 18 month run as champion.
  • BCG christens a new title, the Nationwide title and Washi Tanaka is the initial champion.

Someone has answered Holmes' open challenge, but since they haven't publicly identified themselves, Holmes has stated it will be non title. NYCW HALLOWEEN IN HARLEM

Ota, Dragon Warrior VS Art Reed

Seems to me that Ota is the higher-level guy compared to Art Reed.

Steve Flash & Matty Faith VS Trescarde Corporation

The Trescarde Corporation is in need of a victory, so I'm going to pick them here.

Ring Generals VS Fighting Irish

Very nice picking up the Fighting Irish, but they shouldn't be that popular in the U.S. yet, so I pick the Ring Generals.

Clark Alexander & Running Wolf VS Kurt Laramee & Dean McWade in a First Blood Match

First blood match favours the DAVE guys.

Brent Hill VS Jack Griffith

Brent Hill is coming for the belt.

???? VS Bryan Holmes

Since you hinted at a former SWF North American champion, I'll say the mystery opponent is Squeeky McClean. He could possibly join the Nationals, too. If it is indeed him, he's almost too popular to lose to Bryan Holmes. Given that it's a non-title match, Holmes can afford to lose here.

??? is possibly Jim Force, Squeaky McClean or Enforcer Roberts. Could be someone who won the title in the interim between game start and now, but I don't think so.

It could be Black Hat Bailey.... he is a former 3 time SWF North American Champion and he is on the roster. I didn't say it was a newcomer, only that the challenger didn't identify themselves publicly ;)

It was the second of October and I was deep in planning the Halloween in Harlem show when I got a phone call from Rick Sanders. That in itself wasn't odd as the guys would usually call or text me when discussing a match or a gimmick change or new team idea but this conversation would be one that was far from normal.

Sanders: Hey Dave, I got some news yesterday and I wanted to tell you before you heard it on the trades..

Mack: Are you retiring, or worse going to work at PSW?

Sanders: Nah, not retiring, at least not yet. And as for working at PSW, no thanks, not at my age. But I will be working for someone else, TCW.

I paused a moment.. while Sanders was a decent veteran there was a reason he had not gotten past the Regional level. I never really considered the possibility that TCW would offer him a contract. It wasn't April and Sanders wasn't much of a prankster, so I knew it had to be legit.

Mack: That's great! Did they offer you a guaranteed contract?

I asked that as TCW was still in financial difficulties as they tried to regain the sponsorship they had lost earlier. So not every deal they would offer would be a guaranteed one, and Sanders was not likely to be more than an opener for them at best.

Sanders: No, it's a PPA, but I wouldn't have called you for that. Actually I wanted to talk to you because you booked CGC for awhile and could offer me some advice. You see, Tommy Cornell called me and offered me the head booker position with TCW.

Mack: Wait a minute. This isn't some elaborate prank is it? Did Steve put you up to this?

( Steve Flash was a known prankster and he had me believing once that he had been offered the head booker position with NOTBPW a few years ago)*

Sanders: No Dave, though I know why you'd think that. Honestly I was surprised as hell when Cornell called me. As you know I am getting up there and I had been thinking about my life after exiting the ring. I had heard through some contacts that TCW was going to be shaking up their booking committee since they hadn't been doing well and really more as a lark than anything else, I put my name out there . I really didn't expect much of a response, or at best, maybe they bring me on for a tryout on the committee, but to my surprise, Cornell offered me the head booker job. Granted it's a trial basis but still its the opportunity of a lifetime so I said yes.

Mack: Rick, I am happy for you, really I am. Though a little surprised. But if you want my advice from my time in CGC, be yourself and follow your instincts, no matter what happens. I don't think Cornell is as dead set on being the man as much as Alex DeColt was, so you shouldn't have the same problems I did when he took over. But definitely, listen to everyone, be willing to be flexible, but the final decisions have to be yours and you need to make it clear with Cornell that the in ring stuff is your final say. It's his company, but its your reputation and future and he won't be the one out the door if your ideas don't work.

We chatted a little more, I offered some more info from my time booking with a larger company, and some things I had learned from my years in NYCW, discussed some of the guys we were both familiar with and Sanders stated he would still work our shows, provided it wasn't the same night as a TCW show. I wished him well, hung up and , after sending an email to Vessey, and thought about the situation while I finished my plans for our show. I thought it might actually be a good thing to have Sanders there and maybe this could open the doors for us to have a working relationship with TCW. We had a few of their former stars already, and with Sanders as the head booker, a working agreement with TCW could open up all kinds of possibilities. It definitely would be a kick in the nuts to Mitch Naess and his 'hostile' relationship to us. I made a mental note to contact Sam Keith, Cliff Anderson and Troy Winner to see if there would be any Alliance problems with NYCW having a separate informal arrangement with TCW and then called it a day.

* Steve Flash becoming the NOTBPW booker actually happened in my 2010 NYCW Diary

Ota, Dragon Warrior VS Art Reed

There is quite many "could go either way" matches on this card and this is one of them but I go with Ota here as I still feel like it would be good idea to set possible future challengers for Holmes and beating another DAVE member in singles match pretty much automatically qualify you as a possible challenger.

Steve Flash & Matty Faith VS Trescarde Corporation

I would assume that they have a new member soon and that new member debuting here via interference woudln´t surprise me at all.

Ring Generals VS Fighting Irish

Generals should be move over at this point so unless you plan to put Fighting Irish straight to the top of your tag division, I see little reason to them going over.

Clark Alexander & Running Wolf VS Kurt Laramee & Dean McWade in a First Blood Match

Seems like a match type that would favor DAVE guys and I have their teammates losing in singles matches against Nationals so I think they will pick the win here.

Brent Hill VS Jack Griffith

Hill is still the most likely challenger for Holmes so I would expect him to stay strong.

???? VS Bryan Holmes

Seems to be non-title and mystery guy should be decently big name so perhaps we see another possible challenger here and getting win over champ in singles action would certainly qualify as challenge.

  • 1 month later...

<p>I had lost some interest in writing for awhile, but I wasn't going to kill this yet as I had done a few shows and the bug to write probably would have hit again.</p><p> </p><p>

However, since TEW 2016 is announced for a few months from now, I would probably be switching over to it, seeing what changes happen and then see what catches my interest, whether its another David Mack Chronicle, or something different, like the TPW Thomas Morgan story I did when TEW 2013 came out. </p><p> </p><p>

So I have decided to end this chapter (fittingly ending through December 2015) but not to leave everyone hanging, I am posting the booking, results and grades for the shows that I had ran, including the 2015 KONY tournament.</p><p> </p><p>
