EWA/other Small/Regional companies...

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to start up EWA in the CVerse as I'm looking for a challenge, but it seems to be a super hard one to take anywhere. It starts with no TV or PPV deal and only $250,000. It's nearly impossible even with the best workers in matches to get any storylines above a 41, and you need two with the current product. Is there any tips that anyone has for me that might help me out here?

I've only ever been big companies in real-world mods, so I'm new to this. Any help would be awesome, I figured this might be a bit too big of a question for the small questions thread.

Abuse sex appeal and menace to get storylines and workers over. Because of the spillover issue, you'll have to, eventually at least, run shows in multiple regions to grow. If you find workers who have popularity exceptionally higher in one region than others, set up brands that are specific to each region and highlight the locally popular workers.

Speaking of EWA, the storylines could be these two.

1) Byron saves Elle against the world of menace. African Earthquake and The Johansson Brothers could provide good menace grades while Elle provides the right sex appeal grades. The Ghanian is also a great talker.

2) The Women's Division. Use sex appeal angle to build them up and provide good matches, especially with Anna Ki, your main player.

Another tip.

You can hire Oleg Dorosklov. It will cost a lot, more than 3000 a month but it's worthy. Your main problems would be that he won't be losing to anyone and his poor psychology.

Honestly, I wouldn't try for a TV deal/PPV deal until you hit cult. While there are a few exceptions with smaller coverage that you can get away with (Quebec and Puerto Rico, notably) the major difference between small CVerse companies and small RW companies is the small ECW-style TV Deals for local companies don't exist. I will agree Europe is the most challenging area to build in -- but it isn't impossible to run a C/C+ show with the right workers -- in fact, chances are VWA is doing exactly that in your game off the bat. The one plus side is that there is a utter lack of competition in the early going -- there is no possibility of regional battles in Europe off the bat, and if/when 21CW goes belly up within five years, no competition in Europe's Talent pool who can offer exclusive contracts. The key is to run two monthly shows (I'd recommend Scandinavia or Eastern Europe as there are no rival promotions) so talent can build overness in two regions simultaneously.

I haven't actually tried to run EWA -- that being said, I have made a 2014/15 mod and run several regional/smaller promotions in the CVerse in RTG. It may not appear it at first, but of the three European promotions, EWA is in the worst shape -- many of the workers are pop > performance guys that even in a popularity federation are going to let you down, and a majority of the young talent are old-school technically-minded workers who don't work with the product. EWA is redundant in many ways to 21CW in product/roster/mindset, except they're run by a egotistical madman.

Europe does have some talent outlets others haven't hit on yet. VWA has two young talents that are a must sign -- Landon Mallory and Sebastian Koller. Both are can't miss workers, young and start off as good talkers. The roster has several other talents that are really, really good as well.

Second, keep a close eye on 21CW's transaction log -- with the numbers of graduates produced by the National School of Wrestling, 21CW isn't going to be able to handle them all, and several will drop through the cracks. You can look for any talent (young talent in particular) on PPA Contracts that will work in Europe, and sign them away from 21CW with an exclusive PPA contract -- If you want to do this (I always feel a bit like I'm cheating with this strategy) I'd recommend Leigh Burton and Ricky Storm. I believe this applies to Dojo Graduates as long as 21CW is at Cult -- in particular, look out for the Men of Steel Tag Team (Mass Hulk & Mark Adonis) and Ferdinand Arneaux. You can also snap up some superb non-wrestlers: Jackie Goldstien and Dane Rowley are far above anyone in Europe.

Third, Europe actually has a good independent scene, with several tag teams (leftovers from UCR and ROF/MOSC). The Party Animals (Rave and Trance), The United Nations (German Machine and Turkish Delight) and The Elimination Agents (Genocide Agent & Suicide Agent) are arguably more talented than any male wrestlers on your starting roster with the exception of Byron and African Earthquake. Also, The Notorious F.R.E.A.K. and The Damned are both great additions.

Finally, and most importantly, rework your announce team. In the 2014 update, Martin Bloydell is a rookie, unsigned talent, and is already the announcer in all of Europe (apologies to Steve Smith). I'd actually move African Earthquake to the booth for any match he's not in, and slowly transfer him to a color commentator. Fink Finkelton is a great pick-up, and at the least, he can tide you over until you can steal either Jackie Goldstein and/or Dane Rowley [March 2015] from 21CW. This is probably the biggest strength you start with in Europe/Britain: immediate access to an announcer leagues beyond what you'd see anywhere below Cult in the states.

Begin the search for a superior road agent. I'll throw out a personal recommendation: hire JD Morgan from PSW, and hold onto him after he retires in that capacity. He starts with 82 Psych and will do better than most of the European options -- keep him as an in-ring competitor, manually select him as your agent -- he can train up some of the younger guys on the roster during the Pre-Show.

All of these should help you improve EWA's fortunes and help you work in Europe in general. It is a hard road, but one that can be improved over time -- and patience is the key with any small C-Verse promotion.

KnowYourEnemy added the most, but I would suggest another hire, from UEW, Beast Bantom.

Personally I wouldn't change so much of the non wrestling department.

The announcing team isn't that bad, I would add one of the 21CW graduates or one of these two underrated names in Europe, Tara Green and Papa O'Keefe.

Arson Wells is a good road agent; instead the referee isn't that good but the Garrett twins are the best refs in Europe, unless you play as Lucy Avatar.

Wow, you guys are awesome (especially KYE), I'm definitely gonna get to work on rebuilding that roster then. It was definitely tough after the "Byron beats X menacing worker" got old because all of my upper midcard heels and lower are in tag teams so it's tough to book them in title feuds. If I knew the solution was "throw money at it" I would've done it sooner :D

So even though I'm only drawing 30 fans to a mall in Scandinavia or Eastern Europe, I should do that? Not Mediterranean, where I can at least draw ~500 to my usual 2,000?

I can't really speak to much about the long term with EWA, because I don't think I have ever continued much beyond 9 months with EWA.

But I have had more games with EWA than any other company, most lasting from the 6-9 month range. There may be something in the EWA Thread that's helpful: http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=525522

I delved a great deal into how I build my early storylines with EWA.

Ok so thank you everyone for all your help. I've started two monthlies, one in Central Europe and one in Mediterranean. The first month went well, I made $6,000 and then the next two I lost $15,000 and $21,000. Ticket sales steadily decreased, and merchandise shot downward. Now obviously I hired more workers, so the worker costs went up, which I'm fine with. But how come my Misc costs have gone up every month? What are those?

My pop has increased after every show, and my storyline heat is exceeding what I need it to do. However, almost every single worker's momentum has gone down. Is that because of crappy matches?

This is what happens when I don't just sit back and use a top company :D

Check your drug testing policies for starters and make sure you aren't using them. They are very expensive and are a death blow for small promotions. Also, did you rise in size at all?

None? I'm at Low Level.

Nope, no size rising yet. I'm quite a bit away from Cult, I'm at Regional right now.

Things I would check...

Check your Trends, under Size. Maybe something has changed there that is making you unpopular.

Also, check how the Economy and Wrestling Industry is doing. Maybe they are both tanking simultaneously.

As for your momentum, that's tricky to build. Remember to pick two or three guys to push. (At Regional, that's about the best you can do, unless you have an oversized roster). Then ensure those workers always end up winning... in matches, as well as in angles. Keep this going for a while and you'll see their momentum build. And if you have to give them a loss, make sure you immediately start building them again. No back-to-back losses, and as few losses as possible.

Also, put them in positions that they are good in.

A Johansson brother? Menace!

African Earthquake? An Entertainment angle!

Anna Ki? Sex appeal angle... learn to love those T-shirt gun segments.

Be patient. It can take a while to get them on a roll. But once you do, it'll be worth it. Once they have momentum, you'll see their popularity rise. You might even see an improvement in your merchandise sales!

Nothing's changed under size. I did find that I'm providing catering, how much money does that cost? Is it worth getting rid of despite its positive locker room effects? I'm at 73% right now.

The economy is 52 and falling (explaining the dip in sales?) and the industry is 91 and rising.

Thanks again for the help, I know I've gotta be patient with the momentum, I'm just trying to make some money right now so I don't fold in a year or so :)
