Great way to kick off a fantastic night of wrestling here, and the crowd were shocked to see RVD return to the company! They weren’t the only ones, because Luke Harper was stunned and put off by the reaction RVD got!!! The match was open and could have gone either way, with big Harper getting some help from ringside, and he was able to hit some high-impact, powerful offense! However, he walked into a big spinning kick from RVD, and was hit with Van Dam’s ‘Five Star Frog Splash’!

Incredible match, and one of the best of the entire night! Sami Zayn, despite his experience edge, was taken to school tonight by Chad Gable! The Ready. Willing. Gable. member showed off his amateur wrestling acumen, by controlling Zayn’s legs, arms and head multiple times! But what Zayn lacks in amateur wrestling ability, he makes up for in heart, and he just didn’t know when he was beaten tonight! He could have tapped out numerous times, but he didn’t, he just kept fighting back! For the finish, after a brilliant comeback, he managed to hit his ‘Helluva Kick’ in the corner to score a big, big win!

Tyler Breeze had plenty of help from ringside in this match, and it ruined what could have been a very good contest! Neville was cheered throughout, despite his attitude lately, and he enjoyed the reception he received. He also enjoyed landing on The Miz, Elias Samson, Blake and Murphy from a suicide dive to the outside of the ring! However, it was shortly after that very move that he was caught with a ‘Beauty Shot’ from ‘Prince Pretty’, and nobody kicks out of the ‘Beauty Shot’!

Shelton Benjamin and Dolph Ziggler absolutely tore the house down in this one, and it was a very scrappy, open affair! Neither man dominated the other, and both had time to get in all of their trademark offense! There were times when the match almost went to a double count out because both men couldn’t get up after physically exhausting themselves! But eventually, after Shelton had attempted his ‘T-Bone Suplex’, Ziggler was able to spin him around and hit a ‘Zigg Zagg’ to score an impressive win!

With all four of the First Round Matches in the books, we learnt the brackets, and therefore determined the Semi Finals…

Tyler Breeze and Dolph Ziggler will go 1 on 1 a little later tonight… but first, it’ll be Sami Zayn versus Rob Van Dam…!!!

“I can’t wait for Breeze/Ziggler…!!! Two very similar athletes… with similar characters!!!”

Another very good match (none of them were rated below 67). A mesh of very distinct styles was evident, as Sami Zayn showboated throughout, and tried to outdo the veteran Rob Van Dam! But RVD wasn’t about to take a young upstart show him how it’s done! ‘The Whole Damn Show’ answered back with a series of excellently timed high-risk moves, and could have won it a number of times! But Zayn just kept kicking out! The Intercontinental Champion is known for his resilience, and he showed it in spades here tonight! Van Dam will be gutted he didn’t put Zayn away because he soon found himself getting close and personal with Zayn’s foot and his ‘Helluva Kick’ finisher!

An excellent match once again, which began with a number of stand-offs between the two similar athletes. There were a number of stalemates as they both hit the same move; double clotheslines, dropkicks, forearm strikes, arm drags! It was like they had the exact same moveset! As if they were playing WWE 2K16 and were using the same character! Eventually, with the help of the Pure Bliss Talent Agency, Tyler Breeze gained control of the match, and kept Dolph Ziggler down for a while! However, ‘The Show Off’ came into this Tournament as the favourite, and as the only named former World Champion for a reason! He ended up ducking a ‘Beauty Shot’, and hitting his ‘Zigg Zagg’ to score the win!!!

Amazing Final between Dolph Ziggler and Sami Zayn here. The announce team just couldn’t predict who would win it, and all three were split down the middle! As the favourite at the start of the Tournament, Ziggler was of course the favourite for this match, but Zayn has had a longer break between his First Round, and Semi Final matches! It was clear that Zayn was well-rested, as he seemed in better shape than Ziggler, who had just been in a match! Zayn was in control for most of the match, keeping Ziggler down and in trouble. But Ziggler used the chants from the crowd (‘LETS GO ZIGGLER’) to fuel his comeback! He hit a brilliant DDT, a super kick, his multiple elbow drops, and all of his trademark offense, but he couldn’t put Zayn away! The Intercontinental Champion then fought back into it too, and hit his Tornado DDT after flying through the corner of the ring on the outside! For the finish, Zayn’s ‘Blue Thunder Bomb’ earned him a two count, but his ‘Helluva Kick’ would once again prove to be the difference. Ziggler couldn’t kick out this time, and we had a new King of the Ring!!!

Some more personal news now... With the release of TEW 2016 (in case you hadn't heard) I'll be venturing back into the CVerse for my next diary!! That unfortunately means that this diary will soon cease to exist!

Zayn said he was delighted to win King of the Ring last night… and wanted to thank a few people…

Sami Zayn:

“Not only did I get to wrestle some great performers… I also wrestled some great guys!! And I wanna thank Chad Gable… Rob Van Dam… and Dolph Ziggler… for their matches last night…!!!”

The crowd began a ‘ROB VAN DAM’ chant, which Sami was pleased about… But he soon turned more serious…

Sami Zayn:

“But you know… Despite a hugely successful night for me… I still have this monkey on my back… I still have people, people like Neville, saying that I’m ducking him… and that I don’t want to defend my Intercontinental Title against him… Well Neville… How about this… How about you come out here RIGHT NOW… and fight me like a man!! For the Intercontinental Title!!!”

It didn’t take long for Neville to accept the challenge… and he arrived on the stage…

However, Neville said no way!! He didn’t want an Intercontinental Title Match tonight…!!!

Neville:

“Ya think that I would wanna match wi’ the Intercontinental Champion… The King of tha Ring… Just 24 hours after a gruelling, hard fought match, against Tylaa Breeze…?! You’re crazy if you think I’d accept that challenge Sami… And I think you knew that!!!”

Zayn couldn’t believe Neville’s response… He said he’d fought three times last night, so will be more exhausted than Neville…

Neville:

“So you’re exhausted…? But you still wanna compete…?! That’s fine Sami… because I went to the General Manager Brad Maddox earlier, and I’ve arranged for you ta fight someone in the Main Event tonight… And I think you’ll like it… It’s going to be KING… versus KING…!!! And no… Your opponent isn’t gownna be Jerry Lawlaa… It’s goin’ to be KING BARRETT!!!”

Zayn rolled his eyes, and seemed like he didn’t want the match… but he accepted his fate as he stared down Neville…!!!

Our first televised contest saw Johnny Gargano line up against ‘The Viper’ Randy Orton in a bit of a mismatch…

Decent opener, but the two men didn’t really click in the ring. It was awkward and rushed at times, but the finish was very good. During the match, he does everything nine times, so the crowd can never actually get to ten!!! But as fate would have it, this was his 11th televised match on RAW in the five months since he signed. It was written in the stars that he would lose and fall short after 10 matches undefeated, and he did just that. Apollo Crews won it with his ‘Apollo Combi-Nation’ finisher!

Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper were a constant menace at ringside, and they almost caused an upset. But in the end, the class of Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes, and the veteran instinct of Goldust saw the fan favourites through a tough encounter with the Ministry of Darkness. The powerful Konnor and Erick Rowan, and the cunning Viktor came close to winning on a number of occasions, but they lost when Rollins hit his ‘Pedigree’ on Rowan and pinned the big man!

Main Event time next, and the 2016 King of the Ring Sami Zayn was taking on the 2015 King of the Ring, King Barrett…

Very good match between these two who have completely different styles! King Barrett just doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him, and he uses hard-hitting and dominating moves to keep his opponents grounded. Whereas Sami Zayn is a showboater. Everything he does, he does for the fans, and enjoys nothing more than to hear people chant: ‘OLE, OLE OLE OLE!’ at the top of their voices! Just like he did last night, Zayn scored a big win here tonight with his ‘Helluva Kick’ against a game King Barrett, which drew huge cheers from the crowd!

Bryan’s music hit, and he walked towards the ropes… We thought that was over, but it wasn’t…!!!

Jericho ran at Bryan and blasted him over the back of the head!!! He fell hard into the ropes, and hit his face!!!

Jericho didn’t let up, as he stomped ferociously on Bryan’s mid-section!!! He then picked Bryan up, and slammed him into the corner post…

‘Y2J’ made sure his shoulder cracked the corner post and he then pulled his former tag team partner to the middle of the ring…

He locked Bryan in his ‘Walls of Jericho’, before referees and officials flooded the scene to break it up!!!

Jericho had to be dragged kicking and screaming away from the ring, as we cut to a commercial break…

Paige and Becky Lynch were great tag team partners tonight, as they were last week on RAW, and they picked up a big win in an excellent match! Paige made Nikki Bella tap out to the ‘PTO’ (Paige Tap Out), while Becky Lynch had Brie Bella in the ‘Disarmer’. Brie also tapped out, but it didn’t mean anything!

We found out at King of the Ring that Tyler Breeze is now a member of the Talent Agency and Bliss welcomed him in tonight…

Alexa Bliss:

“But my group has a small… issue… we need to take care of… You see, I offered a spot in MY Talent Agency, to one Dolph Ziggler… and he turned me down… So Dolph… I hope you’ve found a partner… because tonight, you’re taking on two of my clients… My security team… Blake and Murphy!!!”

Dolph Ziggler’s music hit at that point, and the crowd erupted at his arrival…

‘The Show Off’ stayed on the stage though, and said that he stands by his decision to not join Pure Bliss…

With that, Rob Van Dam headed out to a great ovation, and the pair strolled to the ring together!!!

Great match in which Blake and Murphy played excellent heels, and were on the back foot for most of it! They were up against Dolph Ziggler and Rob Van Dam, who know what they’re doing in the ring. The particular highlight of the match was RVD’s educated feet, and Ziggler’s super kick! For the finish though, it was a ‘5-star frog splash’ from Van Dam onto Blake that won it for the experienced pair!

Dominant performance from Ryback tonight. He threw Zack Ryder around the ring like he was nothing at times, after Ryder had made a strong start! The cocky Ryder had ‘The Big Guy’ down early on, buy played to the crowds boos too much and walked onto a ‘Meat Hook Clothesline’! From then on, it was all Ryback, and he mercifully put Ryder away in 5 minutes with his ‘Shell Shocked’ finisher!

The former FIVE TIME Champion in the WWE made her way to the ring, and the crowd was buzzing!!!

At 37 years old, the veteran will be the second oldest diva in the WWE… but the divas division is crying out for experience…

Sasha Banks outstretched a hand to Melina… But we soon realised her intentions as she slapped ‘The Boss’ around the face…!

But for the whole match, the audience were on the edge of their seats and were very loud! For the finish, Banks attempted her ‘Bank Statement’, but Melina countered it and hit a brutal looking back breaker which Banks couldn’t kick out of!

There was no fightback from Banks… She got some help from referees and officials, but the damage might have been done…

Regal was intrigued by the idea, and asked if Bliss was suggesting a Triple Threat Match… Which she said she was…

William Regal:

“I like it… I like it a lot… In fact, I’m going to make that match official right now!!! But not only that… Next week, we’re going to have an interesting tag team battle… Cesaro and (Tyson) Kidd are going to team up for the first time in a long, long time… and take on Tyler Breeze, and another member of the Pure Bliss Talent Agency… How does that sound?!”

Breeze and Bliss were delighted, and said that it sounds awesome!!! We then cut back to the ring…

Speaking of the US Champ, Tyson Kidd was in action next against the Number One Contender for the NXT World Title: Hideo Itami…

This Match of the Night was a back and forth contest throughout. It could have gone either way, as both men hit all of their trademark, hard-hitting, offense! Hideo Itami’s kicking was a real highlight, but the way Tyson Kidd can manipulate a body part endeared him to the live fans, despite his heel tactics at times. During a spot where both men traded punches, forearms and kicks, the crowd chanted ‘YES’! with every shot! However, the loudest cheer came when Itami got his knees up to block Tyson Kidd’s springboard elbow drop, and then lifted the United States Champion up onto his shoulders! Itami held Kidd up there for a moment, as the entire arena rose to their feet, and then he hit his ‘GTS’ to pick up the win!!!

Corbin looked intense as Sheamus spoke, but will Finn Balor accept the challenge…?

Another excellent match here on NXT: Smackdown. Roman Reigns and Cesaro showed great chemistry in this Main Event, not for the first time this year! Cesaro had Reigns on the back foot early on, and looked like a mega star as he threw the NXT World Champion around the ring! Big Reigns couldn’t handle Cesaro’s power for the beginning portion of the match, but soon the two strong men were in a trade off! The scoop slams and power slams were brutal and hard-hitting throughout and both men landed hard a number of times! Cesaro’s ‘Uppercut Train’ was awesome towards the end, but as he loaded up the fifth uppercut, Reigns exploded out of the corner and hit his ‘Superman Punch’! From there, it was only a matter of time before Reigns would ‘Spear’ Cesaro out of his boots to pick up the win!

This match was full of counters and twists and turns. The Ascension looked to dominate their much smaller opponents, but a spinning back breaker from Sin Cara to Viktor which came out of nowhere changed the momentum his team’s way. Kalisto tagged in, and the fiery spark-plug exploded into life. Eventually hitting his ‘Salida del Sol’ on Konnor to score the upset!!!

Dash and Dawson broke the fight up, but Dawson got shoved for his troubles… and now they wanted revenge on The Usos!!!

Jey Uso was thrown back into his car and had the door slammed on him, while Jimmy Uso was taken across the car park…

With Dash’s help, Dawson lifted Jimmy up and hit a ‘Spine Buster’ onto the hood of another car!!!

Backstage officials rushed to the scene and the fight was ended there… but it seems it’s not over between these two teams…

Decent six-person action here, but it was a strange line-up. The Bellas and Johnny Gargano were at a huge size disadvantage throughout and they were overpowered a lot of the time. In the end, after knocking Nia Jax and Tamina off the apron with a brilliant double dropkick, Gargano walked onto a discuss clothesline from Luke Harper, and he was pinned easily!

However, standing in his way was the former ELEVEN-time World Champion – Randy Orton! ‘The Viper’ was vicious in his assault of Zayn tonight, and didn’t allow the fan favourite to score much offense at all! However, as the match wore on, Zayn grew into it! He hit a brilliant ‘Blue Thunder Bomb’ which Orton narrowly kicked out of, and it looked like it was going to be a much more even fight from then on. But, as Orton was setting up for his ‘RKO’ moments later, the music of Brock Lesnar hit, and Orton got the hell out of the ring as fast as he could! Eventually, he was counted out!!!

Wyatt fought with his usual vicious style, but he was up against a high-flying, but hard-hitting talent! Neville dominated for spells, with swift kicks and jumping moves! However, as good as Neville was, Bray Wyatt was great tonight! The WWE World Heavyweight Champion viciously took it to Neville in the latter stages, using his size advantage to control Neville’s mid-section! For the finish, Wyatt locked Neville in a ‘Bear Hug’ and made the young Brit tap out!!!

Great action in this opener for NXT: Smackdown. Finn Balor began by kicking the bejesus out of Zack Ryder! However, a thumb to the eye behind the referee’s back was enough for Ryder to take control! He had Balor on the ropes for the longest time but in the end, the class of ‘The Demon’ shone through! He hit a dropkick that sent Ryder flying into the corner, before landing his beautiful ‘Coupe de Grace’ finisher from the top rope!

Despite not being about to get along for most of the contest, The Vaudevillians and Ready. Willing. Gable came out of this match looking excellent! They disagreed with how to handle their opponents and who should be in the ring a number of times, but in the end got on the same page to pick up the win! Jason Jordan and Chad Gable combined to hit their ‘Grand Amplitude’ finisher on Bo Dallas and pin the returning youngster!

Some of the tags between Cesaro and Tyson Kidd in this match were more like punches, but the former WWE World Tag Team Champions were able to get on the same page for long enough to pick up an important win here tonight! This Sunday, Cesaro, Kidd, and Tyler Breeze will be in a Triple Threat Match for Kidd’s United States Championship! Tonight, despite some help from The Miz, Blake, Murphy and Alexa Bliss, Breeze’s team was defeated when Cesaro hit his ‘Cesaro Swing’ on Elias Samson!

The former friends traded punches to the face until Kidd swung a roundhouse kick that stunned Cesaro!!!

Kidd took Cesaro down and began punching him from a mounted position, but as he got up, he was caught out of nowhere!!!

Tyler Breeze’s ‘Beauty Shot’ knocked Kidd out!!! And ‘Prince Pretty’ posed above Kidd and Cesaro…

This Sunday, Breeze, Kidd and Cesaro will battle in a triple threat match for Kidd’s United States Championship!!!

This was an excellent Main Event between two top stars on NXT: Smackdown. Hideo Itami caused Sheamus all kinds of problems with his ‘kick’ style of wrestling early on, but Sheamus was angry with Finn Balor’s attack on his friend Baron Corbin from moments ago. ‘The Celtic Warrior’ used his anger to fuel a dominant display! He threw Itami around the ring, and didn’t allow the number one contender to the NXT World Title to get rolling. In the end though, Itami would find an opening when Sheamus missed his ‘Brogue Kick’ in the corner! Itami locked Sheamus in a sleeper hold, and ended up making the big Irishman pass out!!!

Tommaso Ciampa has been on a reign of terror on NXT: Smackdown lately… After losing to Val Venis in his first defeat, Ciampa then beat the veteran Canadian and took him out!!! He was confronted by a returning Mark Henry… But after losing to, and then beating Henry, Ciampa snapped again, and put Henry on the shelf again!!! Solomon Crowe took exception to Ciampa’s actions and took it upon himself to screw with the ‘Sicilian Psychopath’… He’s gone on to cost Ciampa plenty of matches, and anger his rival to the point of attacking anyone he can find… Can Ciampa get revenge tonight? Or is Crowe so far inside Ciampa’s crazy head, that he can beat him on the pre-show?!

How we got here…

The Pure Bliss Talent Agency are a dominant group… At present, Alexa Bliss claims that she has three clients: A model (Tyler Breeze), a recording artist (Elias Samson) and an actor (The Miz), with Blake and Murphy acting as her ‘security team’… But a few weeks ago, Bliss offered a spot in her group to ‘The Show Off’ Dolph Ziggler… He politely turned Bliss down, but she is not happy with him about it… She’s also not happy that he beat Tyler Breeze and knocked him out of the 2016 King of the Ring Tournament… AND then on NXT: Smackdown the following week he teamed with RVD to beat Blake and Murphy… Tonight, Ziggler has Miz 1 on 1… Both men have huge egos but only one can win!!!

Willing. Gable. in a slight upset… but Simon Gotch and Aiden English are very much capable of upsetting The New Day here too…

‘The Swiss Superman’ Cesaro [vs] ‘The Hart Dungeon Graduate’ Tyson Kidd [c] [vs] ‘Prince Pretty’ Tyler Breeze w/ Pure Bliss

How we got here…

The rivalry between these three is based on two of them being out injured… When Cesaro and Tyson Kidd were a tag team, and on top of their game, Kidd was cruelly put on the shelf for over a YEAR with a very serious, near career ending injury… While he was out, Cesaro went on to become a fantastic singles wrestler, and even capture the United States Championship… In the process though, Cesaro injured the man he took the Belt from: Tyler Breeze… ‘Prince Pretty’ spent a few months on the injured reserve list himself!! She showed up originally at Wrestlemania, after having Paige thrown over the barricade into her and her friends… Then, Ronda began training as a wrestler… Under the tutelage of Sara Del Rey, and other coaches at the WWE Performance Centre, Rousey came out of her training and began a career as a WWE Diva… She beat Paige (a former 4 time Women’s Champion in the WWE) on her debut… and has since beaten Sasha Banks and Emma 1 on 1… Then last month at SummerSlam, she won the WWE Unified Women’s Title from Lynch and Paige in a Triple Threat Match!! This will be the first Rousey vs Lynch singles match ever… Can ‘The Lass Kicker’ be the one to stop Rousey’s quest to become the best diva in the history of the WWE…?! ‘The Greatest Of All Time’ Daniel Bryan [vs] ‘The Best in the World’ Chris Jericho

How we got here…

Chris Jericho made a triumphant return to WWE television at July’s Battleground pay-per-view… On that night, he helped Daniel Bryan to become a double Champion, when they beat Baron Corbin and Rhyno, and Ready. Willing. Gable. to capture the NXT Tag Team Titles… After that epic night though, things started to go wrong for Daniel Bryan… He lost his NXT World Championship at SummerSlam, but it was arguably because Chris Jericho arrived and caused chaos!! Jericho claims he tried to stop Reigns from cheating using a steal chair, but it resulted in Bryan losing the Title he’d worked so hard to win… The following week on NXT: Smackdown, Bryan and Jericho lost their NXT Tag Team Titles to The Nw Day… Again, it was Jericho’s fault, and the worst week in Bryan’s professional career was complete… Eventually, after telling Jericho he couldn’t be his partner anymore, ‘Y2J’ snapped and attacked Bryan!! Now, the former ‘friends’ will battle 1 on 1… which is interestingly how Daniel Bryan made his WWE Career… in a match against then World Champion Chris Jericho!!!

How we got here…

Since capturing the NXT World Championship at SummerSlam, Roman Reigns has been in great form… In fact, he’s undefeated since June!! And has enjoyed 12 wins in a row since then… Hideo Itami’s win/loss record has also been superb this year, and he earned this Title shot by beating Dolph Ziggler, Tyson Kidd, Cesaro and Tyler Breeze at SummerSlam and then beating Ziggler 1 on 1 on NXT: Smackdown… Back in July, Itami and Reigns went 1 on 1, and it was ‘The Powerhouse’ Reigns who came out on top thanks to interference from Ziggler… Tonight, with neither man having ‘friends’ to back them up, it’s going to be all about who wants it more… It’s Roman Reigns’ first Title defence… But it’s Itami’s first Title shot… One of them will leave disappointed, but the other will be NXT World Champion!!

No fancy tricks with the lights or entrance music in this one, ‘The Hacker’ Solomon Crowe was all business tonight! He took it to Tommaso Ciampa from the opening bell and didn’t allow ‘The Sicilian Psychopath’ to breathe!! Ciampa ended up having to resort to a thumb to the eye of Crowe to gain an unfair advantage, and he went on to control the fan favourite! It didn’t last long though, because Crowe withstood the onslaught and fought back into it. He ended up picking up a slightly surprising win when he made Ciampa tap out to his ‘Crowe Bar’ (single leg, over the shoulder, Boston Crab!)

The first contest, was an interesting one between old rivals: Dolph Ziggler and The Miz!

After turning down Alexa Bliss’ offer to join the Pure Bliss Talent Agency, Dolph Ziggler would have regretted his decision early on in this one. Up against a talented competitor in The Miz, he also had to combat Alexa Bliss, Elias Samson, Tyler Breeze, and Blake and Murphy at ringside! The numbers game caught up to Ziggler eventually, and he spent a long time on the mat while The Miz went to work on his arm! ‘Mr. Must See’ had a fire lit under him tonight, presumably by Alexa Bliss! But as is often the case in Miz matches, he got too cocky, and he walked onto a super kick from Ziggler! From there, ‘The Show Off’ hit a ‘Fame Asser’, followed by his ‘Zigg-Zagg’, to get the win! Much to the anger of Alexa Bliss!

Not for the first time in recent weeks, The Vaudevillians put in a cracking performance here! They were the underdogs from the beginning, as Xavier Woods clocked Simon Gotch in the face with his trombone behind the referee’s back! It didn’t stop Gotch and Aiden English from being at their entertaining, and chivalrous, best throughout though. They came close to winning a number of times, and survived some of Kofi Kingston and Big E’s best offense! In the end though, Kingston hit ‘Trouble in Paradise’ on English, who had shoved the legal Gotch out of the way (#chivalry). But Big E was on hand to tag in by slapping Kofi on the back, and then hit his finisher the ‘Big Ending’ on English! New Day retain!

Gable agreed, and then said that he and Jordan keep falling short when it matters most… Suddenly, in walked ‘The Club’…

‘The Club’ laughed, but Jordan and Gable reminded Sheamus that it wasn’t him and Corbin that did it the first time…

Chad Gable:

“As I recall ‘fella’… Baron Corbin had help from Rhyno… back when your ‘Club’ meant something… Tonight, you should be focused on Finn Balor… because I know for a fact that he’s focused on you… I also know, that he’s not at all worried about you Sheamus… After all… You were never as much of a man as Rhyno was!!!”

Sheamus snapped, and had to be held back by Baron Corbin… as ‘The Club’ eventually left the room…

Ready. Willing. Gable. wished Corbin luck, sarcastically, for his match against Finn Balor later on tonight…

Once again, the Pure Bliss Talent Agency were the difference early on, as they (legally in this triple threat match) got involved physically! Cesaro took a kick to the back of the head from Elias Samson, and ‘The Swiss Superman’ slid out of the ring to confront Alexa Bliss and her group! Cesaro was taken down by Tyson Kidd before he could do any damage, and the referee decided to send Alexa and co. to the back!! The crowd cheered when the referee did that arm thing, and Pure Bliss couldn’t believe it!! They pleaded innocence, since this is a triple threat match, but the ref was having none of it! From there, it became a very competitive triple threat contest! All three men scored near falls, but the finish came when Cesaro began his ‘Cesaro Swing’ on Tyson Kidd! After the fifth rotation, Tyler Breeze got in and hit his ‘Beauty Shot’ on Cesaro, knocking ‘The King of Swing’ out!! As Breeze went for the cover, a dizzy Tyson Kidd shoved ‘Prince Pretty’ out of the ring, and pinned Cesaro to retain his United States Title, with Breeze’s finisher doing the damage!

Elliott said he hadn’t seen Dallas, and Ryback went off to look for him some more…

Back to the ring, ‘The Demon’ Finn Balor headed to the ring in his leather jacket to a huge ovation…

Balor must have decided not to bring ‘The Demon’ with him tonight… but Balor alone is still a formidable opponent…

His rival Baron Corbin then arrived, along with fellow ‘Club’ member Sheamus…

As soon as the bell rang, the much smaller, but much livelier Finn Balor flew at his opponent Baron Corbin! He took Corbin down, and began reigning fists onto his rival! Balor then took to the air, and hit a suicide dive onto the unsuspecting Sheamus at ringside; taking him out momentarily. In the long run though, Balor should have focused on Corbin, because as soon as Balor got back into the ring he was kicked right in the face by the vicious ‘Wolf’! From there, Balor was in all kinds of trouble! He kept going back to the pain in his eye socket, caused by Corbin’s kick! It had Balor flustered, but it didn’t stop him for long. Eventually, he hit his corner dropkick to Corbin, and sent the big man flying backwards into the turnbuckle! Corbin bounced out of the corner though, and so Balor hit it a second time! He then hopped up to the top rope, ignored Sheamus who was shouting at him from the floor, and hit his ‘Coupe de Grace’ finisher onto Corbin!!

Decent match, but hardly a stand-out for 2016 in the women’s division. Ronda Rousey was dominant tonight, and allowed the fans to cheer and chant for Becky Lynch. It didn’t seem like ‘The Lass Kicker’ had a chance tonight, but she loves proving people wrong! She suddenly came to life on the 8 minute mark of the match, and started throwing Rousey around the ring! The crowd couldn’t believe it, and they cheered every throw loudly! Rousey could barely walk after no fewer than fifteen throws!!! But when Lynch went for her ‘Dis-Armer’ finisher, she slipped and allowed Rousey to create some space, and she blasted Lynch with her forearm smash to the face!!! Rousey collapsed into the cover, but Lynch somehow kicked out!!! Rousey didn’t hook a leg, and that could be why Lynch kicked out! Moments later, Rousey hit a second forearm to the face, and this time, she hooked a leg, but she probably didn’t mean to.

When we returned to the ring the Hell in a Cell structure began to lower; an ominous sight which brought cheers from the audience…

Because up next, it was time for Daniel Bryan to get revenge on Chris Jericho!!!

‘Y2J’ caused Bryan to lose both his NXT World Title, and their NXT Tag Team Titles, in the same week!!!

And then, after Bryan said he wanted to go separate ways, Jericho attacked his former ‘friend’…

Tonight… in a repeat of Bryan’s first ever match in the WWE… It’s Bryan versus Jericho… 1 on 1…

Only this time… it’s inside the HELL IN A CELL!!!

One of the best NXT: Smackdown matches of 2016 saw Daniel Bryan and Chris Jericho tare each other apart in this epic encounter! It began with both men rolling to the outside to grab weapons! Both decided on a steal chair; the very same weapon that caused Daniel Bryan to lose his NXT World Title to Roma Reigns, thanks in part to Chris Jericho! The two enemies stood across the ring from each other, Cell surrounding them, with a chair each. And then, they went to war! Using the chairs as swords, Bryan and Jericho smacked each other around the ring and ringside area, eventually turning it into a fight! The chairs were discarded, and the former friends just rammed each other into the side of the Cell! For the first 10 minutes of the match, both men bounced off the Cell and ring-steps a number of times, and both were in a lot of pain!

Rich Brennan:
“Guys, we’re ten minutes into this match and I don’t think I’ve seen ONE wrestling move!!!”

Byron Saxton:
“You might be right Rich… These two are destroying each other!!!”

Corey Graves:
“You think they came here to ‘wrestle’ Brennan?!?! Speaking like someone who’s never been in the ring, let alone a Champion… Daniel Bryan was BOTH the NXT World Champion, and the NXT Tag Team Champion… and Chris Jericho took it all away!!! Bryan is angry, and he’s not here to wrestle! Idiot!”

Corey Graves, as is often the case, was proved right pretty soon, as tables were then introduced to the fight! Bryan set one up on the outside of the ring, but Jericho decided to slide back into the ring, and the table was ignored for a few minutes. That is until Jericho was on the apron, and Bryan used one of his own moves against him! Bryan hopped onto the second rope, and sprung himself across to dropkick Jericho off the apron, and through the table! Bryan was in control from there, and he almost won it a couple of times. However, as he headed up to the top rope for a headbutt, and flew, Jericho caught him with a vicious ‘Code Breaker’!!! It looked like he’d broken Bryan’s jaw!!! ‘The Greatest Of All Time’ was done, and Jericho didn’t need to, but he locked him in his ‘Walls of Jericho’ submission hold!!! Bryan had no choice but to tap out, and Jericho scored the upset victory!! Much to the dismay of the fans!!

I’m still the greatest Prospect in the WWE… and with all these relics like Shelton Benjamin and Rob Van Dam showing up out of nowhere, it’s time I step up and show them all who the MAN is on NXT: Smackdown!!! Because I’m not a ‘Kidd’ anymore…”

At that moment, Rob Van Dam walked onto the scene, having overheard Kidd’s comments…

fight RVD this Thursday on NXT: Smackdown… if RVD didn’t already have a match…

But, he said he might just see him in a few days anyway… and then left the scene…

Main Event time next… and the NXT World Championship to be defended LIVE…

Roman Reigns took the Title from Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam last month… and this will be his first defence…

His opponent: ‘The Japanese Sensation’ Hideo Itami will provide a tough test for the powerful Samoan…

Itami’s ‘KICK’ style is feared by many, but tonight he’s going to be kicking a big, strong, Samoan, TREE…!!!

Another excellent match here, which saw the fan favourite Hideo Itami continue to build his excellent resume of fantastic performances. He battered Roman Reigns early on, and peppered him with kicks and strikes that Reigns simply had no answer to! The NXT World Champion had to cover up his face, but it left his mid-section open to abuse. In the end, all he could do was bail to the outside and take breathers! But even then, Itami flew over the top rope, not allowing Reigns to recover! On the third ‘suicide dive’ though, Reigns was ready for his opponent, and he caught Itami on his shoulder!! The big Samoan then drove Itami spine first into the side of the ring, before delivering his ‘drive by kick’ when Itami was leaning on the apron for support! From there, Reigns used his superior power and obvious size advantage to keep Itami in trouble; using a bear hug to good effect in the middle of the ring!

Rich Brennan:
“Well Hideo Itami’s ribs are clearly the target of Roman Reigns!!”

Byron Saxton:
“He’s softening him up for the ‘Spear’ Rich!! It’s great strategy!!”

Corey Graves:
“Are you…?! Oh my Gaad… Listen, of COURSE it’s his strategy… You think he just accidentally became NXT World Champion…?! NO! He had to beat Daniel frickin’ Bryan to win that… Roman Reigns knows what he’s doing!! Of COURSE he’s softening up the ribs for his ‘Spear’! And I can’t wait ‘til he hits it so I can leave this arena, and not see you two for a few days!! Idiots!!”

Reigns continued to work on Itami’s ribs, to soften him up for the ‘Spear’ (Corey Graves leaves!), and he also sucked the life out of the crowd. It was going to take something big to bring the audience back into the match, and that’s what Hideo Itami gave them! Out of nowhere, he lifted Reigns up and delivered his ‘GTS’ finisher!!! He fell into the cover, but Reigns was too close to the ropes, and he reached out and grabbed the bottom one at two and a half!!! The referee spotted it, but most of the fans didn’t!!! They thought Itami had won the NXT World Championship!!! Itami thought he’d won too, and began to get emotional on his knees as the referee told him it wasn’t the case! Before he knew it, he’d walked onto a ‘Superman Punch’ from Reigns, and was flat on his back!! Not long after that, after trading kicks and punches, Reigns hit a ‘Spear’, and there was no kicking out for Hideo Itami!!

If that ‘GTS’ was in the middle of the ring, there’s no way he was going to kick out!!!

Equally, if Itami had realised that he hadn’t won yet, he might have stayed on Reigns and hit another one perhaps…

More questions than answers from that Main Event… but one thing’s for sure, Roman Reigns is STILL NXT World Champion!!!
