ECW Regeneration

  • It's a new world for ECW after the shocking introduction and arrival of new ECW Owner, Shane McMahon! But with Cyrus at his side and the speech given by the former executive, one has to question Shane's intentions for the Land of Extreme.

  • Turns out that Rob Van Dam and Jerry Lynn each got lied to about last month's show date by a "Calvin Y. Russel", and they're pissed. Both men have something to say about the happenings of last month, but with a new regime in place they may get more than just small talk.

  • The Sandman is doing some hunting of his own tonight, not just for the gold he was forced to defend, but for the sick son of a b***h holding it. With two of ECW's most violent competitors being let loose in a guaranteed war, will we even have a Ballroom to return to?!

Really enjoyed how your Guilty as Charged came out. A lot of it was similar to the real life version, but that isn't a bad thing as the show, despite the history of it being "the last ECW PPV", I always thought was a really good show. Where you go from here is going to be a surprise because the real show didn't go past there, so can't wait to see what happens!

Rhino - No way does Sandman get the belt back here.

Simon and Swinger - Doring and Roadkill are a problem that need solved.

Kid Kash - Daniels in there seems like a ringer to me, Kash has previous wins over Rhino IRL so he could be built up to challenge for the belt at a small PPV.

Nova - Nasty Nova is gonna bang his head.

Team Anderson - This will give CW a big win back after the I Quit match.

ECW Regeneration

Date: February 11th, 2001

Location: Hammerstein Ballroom, New York City, NY

Attendance: 2,600-SOLD OUT

Show Rating: 54

Theme: How Could I Just Kill A Man by Rage Against The Machine

http://i.imgur.com/CBACZBD.jpg

(It's a wild crowd as the Hammerstein Ballroom is filled with ECW chants, the Mutants happy to see their beloved promotion return after weeks of speculation and rumors.)

http://i.imgur.com/1uivHDQ.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/7LjSIGn.jpg

Styles: Hello ladies and gentlemen, I'm Joey Styles and no you're not dreaming or riding high in the sky! It is Extreme Championship Wrestling, still alive and kicking here in New York City, here to bring to you all its Regeneration!

(The crowd cheers but saves their incoming eruption, waiting for the "Sexual Intellectual" himself to welcome them. But before Gertner can even grab the mic from Styles, a third, unpleasant voice butts in.)

http://i.imgur.com/qWWUeMr.jpg

"He's smiling, that's not good..."

Cyrus: And well, well, well! It's everybody's favorite fatass, the man who ate the entire cake out of the pan, the disgusting chub whose more muffin than stud! JOEL 'YOU'RE FIRED' GERTNER!

(The crowd is nearly shocked into silence, before using their energy to boo the hell out of Cyrus as a confused Gertner asks Cyrus if he's serious.)

Cyrus: Oh I'm dead serious Gertner. I told everybody last month that I am helping to bring in a new ECW, a better ECW! An ECW without Joel Gertner, and quite frankly, our new boss agrees that the programming of ECW doesn't need trash like you taking precious air time from our talent. So it is with my deepest condolences that I, Cyrus, wish you the best of luck Mr. Gertner, with your future endeavors. SECURITY!

(With a wide grin Cyrus watches as Gertner is taken to the back by security, no doubt heading to the exit where Joel will be "accidentally" thrown into a snowbank outside. With Joey Styles looking at Cyrus in horror our cameras transition into the ECW Regeneration video package.)

Grade: 45

http://i.imgur.com/qWWUeMr.jpg

(When we return to the ring Cyrus is standing alone, his wide smile still on his face even with the entire Hammerstein Ballroom booing him, some people even throwing trash in the ring.)

Cyrus: Now then, with the garbage out of the building I can enjoy the privilege and honor of welcoming the new leader of ECW, Shane McMahon!

http://i.imgur.com/r4j0jTt.jpg

"New Chief of Extreme"

(With just as much apathy the new owner makes his way down to the ring, smiling at the crowd as though the guy behind him didn't just call him five different insults involving his mother. With a handshake with Cyrus McMahon takes the mic, closing his eyes and breathing deep, taking in the anger as thought it was a standing ovation.)

McMahon: On March 31st, 1985, this city saw the birth of a new era in wrestling, one led by my very own father, Vincent Kennedy McMahon! Now, sixteen years later, New York City will once again bear witness to a revolution, a revolution led by the son of the original revolutionary himself, Shane O'Mac! Tonight's show is called Regeneration, and that is because tonight marks the Regeneration of ECW, and it all started with the removal of one of the biggest contributor's to ECW's garbage, Joel Gertner!

(While at first smiling, Shane's face twitches from its mask as the crowd begins to chant "Gertner!" mixed with a few more chants of "You suck d**k!" from the more unhappy members of the audience.)

McMahon: You people need to realize that I know what I'm doing, I am a fully qualified businessman, unlike Paul Heyman, who led this company straight to the chopping block! He lost this company BOTH its television deals last year, he lost this company its top talent time and time again, and it was he that lost millions of dollars, millions I paid back myself mind you! I-

(Whatever Shane was about to say next was quickly drowned out by the sound of a screaming crowd as the theme of ECW's number one son filled the Hammerstein Ballroom, signaling the return of Rob Van Dam!)

http://i.imgur.com/n1FXKsX.jpg

"The Whole F'N Show!"

RVD: So then, you're the new boss. I've heard a lot about you, but since I wasn't on the show last month, I think I need to introduce myself to you. My name is Rob Van Dam, better known to these people as the "Whole F*****g Show." With that being said, I don't appreciate fake employees giving me fake show info, so I think you and I need to come to a little understanding.

(Before Shane or Cyrus can respond, music fills the Ballroom once more, the theme being one Rob knows all too well, the theme of a man who hates his guts, Jerry Lynn!)

http://i.imgur.com/84UlI7m.jpg

"The New F'N Show."

Lynn: Now hold on just a damn second, if anyone is going to get an understanding tonight, it's gonna be me! As far as I'm concerned Cyrus, you have hell to pay, not just for lying to me about the dates so I would miss your new "golden boy" Rhino stealing the spot that should've been mine; but for disrespecting me and calling me a failure! And as for you "boss", let me give you an update on who really runs this dump, my name is Jerry Lynn, and I am the "NEW F*****G SHOOOOWWWWW!!!"

McMahon: ENOUGH! I don't give a damn who either of you are, but I'm telling you this, and I want every single member of that locker room to listen good. I give the orders around here, not you, not anyone in the back, and certainly not any of these people in the crowd! So just to make sure you get the message, you're both going to be competing in a match right now, as partners. And as for your opponents, they're going to be my personal security detail, the baddest men California has to offer, John Cena, Samoa Joe, The SoCal Saints! Come on out boys!

RVD and Jerry Lynn vs The SoCal Saints

There's no love lost between Jerry Lynn and RVD, but there's always a good amount of chemistry, and it seems that chemistry even applies to tag team matches. The SoCal Saints aren't pushovers though, and both men show very quickly that when they hit, they hit hard, the sounds of their strikes being heard throughout the Hammerstein Ballroom. But strength wasn't a match for speed, especially when it came to such educated feet, ending with Rob getting the better of one of the Saints, rolling him up for the pin.

(Just because the match ends doesn't mean the violence will, and the Saints prove it as they keep on fighting, taking a celebrating Jerry and Rob by surprise. With anger on their faces the hired duo decided to take things up to another level as they grab chairs, ready to break both of their opponents. Those bad intentions are stopped dead as the unlikely cavalry of Steve Corino and Justin Credible run into the ring, chairs of their own at the ready as they tell the Saints to leave.)

(We go backstage to the locker room of Simon Diamond, C.W. Anderson and Johnny Swinger, wide smiles on their faces reflecting their confidence for their six man tag match. Simon takes center stage, hyping up the skill and athleticism of his trio, calling them the best technical wrestlers in ECW. He then talks about how Tommy was once in the right spot to go down as a world famous wrestling technician, but he threw it away to be a "Hardcore Hero." He continues on, saying that he hopes it was worth years off of his life, because tonight Dreamer's mistakes become their opportunity.)

Tommy Dreamer and York and Matthews vs C.W. Anderson and Simon and Swinger w/Dawn Marie

From the very start things kicked off at a high pace, Dreamer and Anderson opening the bout and going straight into a vicious brawl, tagging in their teammates before continuing where they left off from their I Quit match last month, their quarrel taking them into the ECW crowd! With such an explosive tone set, the other teammates followed their partners' lead with York and Matthews pulling out all the stops in their aerial assault as Simon and Swinger used their technical training to keep the young guns grounded. But the duo of York and Matthews proved to be too quick for Simon and Swinger to hold them down long, doing dive after dive, but still so far from a 3 count.

Unfortunately their successful evasion got to their heads, with a cocky York taunting Simon a second too late, only to end up the victim of a Simon and Swinger Problem Solver (Flapjack DDT) onto a steel chair! But just in the nick of time, a bleeding Dreamer ran in, chair in hand as he gave Swinger and Simon a shot each to the head, motioning for Matthews to climb the turnbuckle and end this!

And up Matthews leaps, only to run right into a furious C.W. Anderson at the top, who throws Matthews off the turnbuckle and right through a table on his way to the ringside floor. With confusion at what is taking so long Dreamer turns to see Matthews, but instead meets face first with the boot of "The Enforcer" as he hits a picture perfect Superkick! With Tommy seeing stars but still standing Simon and Swinger spring into action, giving Tommy a repeat of the Problem Solver York took earlier! With his team down and himself having taken the worst of the beating Tommy can't respond, giving Team Anderson both victory and rewards!

Winner: C.W. Anderson and Simon and Swinger

(We leave the posing trio in the ring, laughing at the mess of bodies they've left as we head backstage to the man who wants Rhino's head on a silver platter, The Sandman.)

(With his signature Singapore Cane in hand he says that Rhino has no leverage over him tonight. His family is somewhere safe, he has no belt to worry about, and by this point he's long past caring about his health. All that matters now is the beating that Sandman plans on giving Rhino for all he's done to The Sandman and his family. If Rhino wants to hide behind Cyrus and be more "Man B***h" than "Man Beast" that's fine with him, because it doesn't matter who is in his way tonight, because they're all getting caned.)

Nova vs Julio Dinero w/Chris Hamrick

If it wasn't for the bad blood between Nova and Hot Commodity this match could've very well been a classic between two men who could bring a fight on the mat and in the air. Hot Commodity isn't looking for a fair fight though, and have no issues using the numbers game to their advantage, Hamrick being a constant distraction so Julio can keep control.

With Nova at the end of his rope Julio holds his arms behind his back and drags him to Hamrick, nodding for him to give a Confederate Kick to end it all. But it was all a trap as Nova ducks, causing Julio to take the face full of boot instead! With his opponent out Nova decks his manager right off the apron before climbing onto the top of the turnbuckle and landing a perfect Senton Bomb for the victory!

(Backstage we see Jerry Lynn heading out of the building, but as he makes his way down the hallway he's stopped by someone calling his name, turning around only to see his partner from earlier, Rob Van Dam.)

Lynn: What do you want?

RVD: Look man, you don't like me and I don't like you, but you didn't leave me on my own out there, so thanks.

Lynn: Thanks? I didn't stay for you! I stayed around to stick it to Cyrus and McMahon by showing them the talent they wasted last month! Far as I'm concerned, that was a one time thing for me to guarantee my paycheck and spot as a top tier talent. Next time you have a problem, well that's gonna be just your problem, Chump.

(With that Lynn turns his back on Rob and walks away, an exasperated Rob left staring after him, shrugging at Lynn's attitude.)

Spike Dudley vs Super Crazy vs Kid Kash vs Christopher Daniels

It seemed that everyone involved had a different agenda when it came to this match and what they wanted out of it. Crazy and Kash, occasional partners, decided to make the match a friendly competition in a constant game of "Can you top this?" as they put their daredevil tactics to good use. For Spike Dudley things weren't so friendly, with newcomer Christopher Daniels showing heavy aggression on the crowd favorite, using Spike as a chance for Daniels to showcase his impressive arsenal, from a crisp enzuigiri to a picture perfect double jumping moonsault that Joey Styles remarks as "the best moonsault ever!" But before Daniels could capitalize on his momentum it all came to a crashing halt as a hurricanrana from Kid Kash followed by a Crazy Special (springboard moonsault) cut the new guy down to size.

From that point on it became a free-for-all, everyone getting in their moves where they could, trying to keep the others down longer than they ended up. As time went on it was Daniels who stopped the party, narrowly avoiding a Moonsault from Crazy, making the "Extreme Luchador" crash through the table he had put Daniels on. With one man down Daniels moved onto Kash, catching him midair on his shoulders, only to bring him down with a Death Valley Driver!

With nobody seemingly able to stop him Daniels picks up "Little" Spike Dudley, bringing him to his feet, laughing in his face before Spike smashes Daniels own with his forearm! Over and over the forearm goes, disorienting Daniels as Spike forces him into position, grabbing him by the head and running up the turnbuckle and turning him around, bringing both ego and face down to the mat via the Acid Drop!(Corner springboard cutter) With Crazy having burned, Kash driven, and now Daniels dropped, it's Spike Dudley who makes the cover, gaining the victory here at Regeneration!

(Spike is celebrating on the top of the turnbuckle, the crowd chanting his name only for everyone's least favorite noise to sound throughout the Ballroom. The voice of Cyrus.)

(Cyrus tells everyone to wait just a second, as Shane McMahon has told Cyrus to announce something huge for ECW, something McMahon himself wanted to do before he was so rudely interrupted by RVD and Jerry Lynn. With a wide smile Cyrus informs the crowd that on March 7th, ECW will be back on the airwaves with a brand new show, "ECW Revolution TV!", for once getting a crowd to cheer him.)

(But that cheering doesn't last too long as Cyrus goes on, telling Spike that as a reward for winning the four way match, he will be in the main event of Revolution TV's debut episode, fighting for the ECW World Television Championship against the "Man Beast" World Champion, Rhino! With a smile Cyrus wishes the "Runt of Dudleyville" good luck before leaving, Spike's horrified expression following him into the back.)

(We go backstage to the double champion, a sick grin on his face as he begins to talk about his title defense tonight. He tells Sandman that he hopes he gave his family a final, loving hug, because it will be the last time he ever gets to move with his body intact. He then tells Spike Dudley to pay close attention, because on Revolution TV the "Man Beast" will use Spike as an example for the nation watching to learn why he is "The Big F*****g Deal!")

Roadkill and Danny Doring © vs Simon and Swinger w/Dawn Marie

The challengers have had some time to rest, but there's still a bit of a difference as Danny Doring and Roadkill dominate the start of the match, showing off the solid teamwork that made them champions. Credit to Simon and Swinger however, both men are stubborn, kicking out of a Barnburner (Fireman's carry cutter) and a Wham, Bam, Thank You Ma'am (Lifting double underhook DDT) respectively. But when it came down to the finish it was Simon's girl, Dawn Marie that made the difference, saving her man from a Buggy Bang as she shook the ropes, causing Doring to slip on the turnbuckle groin first!

Wasting no time Swinger takes action, freeing Simon from the wheelbarrow hold with a vicious lariat to the head of Roadkill. With the big man dazed they recover fast and get to work, whipping him into the ropes and waiting for him to bounce back, giving them the perfect opening to land a crashing Problem Solver! But before they can make the pin here comes Doring, diving off the top rope, but he's a second too late as he's caught mid air by Swinger! With a nod to Simon they give Doring an encore of Roadkill's pain, finishing off the other half of the tag team champions with a Problem Solver, laying them both side by side before covering them for the pin!

(As we watch the new champions celebrate Joey Styles begins freaking out, informing the audience that our cameras having picked up the champion and challenger in a brawl backstage!)

(After a brief second our view transitions to the hallway that leads to the locker rooms, where The Sandman and Rhino are exchanging blows, a group of officials trying to break them up so they can get the match started. Styles on the other hand suggests, "It's time for their match anyway, so might as well let them fight to the ring!")

(After several attempts and several interns being smacked with canes and chairs, including one poor soul that was Gored through a table, the officials decided to put Styles' idea into action. And by action we mean they all just ran to not be next through another table, content with letting the two men drag each others battered bodies into the ring.)

The Sandman vs Rhino ©

The match begins with as explosive a beginning as possible, the Sandman dragging an already bloodied Rhino to the ring by the hair, his Singapore Cane leading the way down as the crowd cheers for the "Hardcore Icon!" But it seems this was the moment the champion was waiting for, taking a page out of the Anderson family book and delivering a crashing spinning spinebuster on The Sandman, taking back control! From there it went back and forth, both men arguably the toughest SOBs in the locker room, barely caring about the title, wanting to rip the other man to shreds.

Throughout the match tables seemed to have been the name of the game, both men constantly crashing through them one way or another, including a Gore through the ropes that sent them both through one together, the ECW faithful chanting "Holy sh*t!" in response. But even carnage has its limits, and it seemed that Rhino had reached his after taking a Rolling Rock (Senton Bomb) while on both a table and chair. With a wave of his cane the Sandman signaled the end, setting up a table in the corner to give Rhino a piledriver he'd never forget. Once satisfied with the setup, The Sandman turned to grab the champion, but what he got instead was a running shoulder tackle that sent him flying across the ring!

http://i.imgur.com/iZ6ksoN.jpg

"He just turned The Sandman into a rag doll!"

With authority the man kept on going, picking up the fallen challenger and whipping him into the ropes, but Sandman was ready this time and dodged the tackle! With speed nobody expected the "Hardcore Icon" unleashed Singapore hell on the stranger, with cane shot after cane shot to the skull, keeping true to his word from earlier as he sends the man out the ring with a final whack! But for the mystery man it seemed his mission was accomplished, as Sandman went from one charging behemoth to another in the form of a recovered Rhino!

GORE! GORE! GORE

right through the setup table in the corner, a now broken Sandman lying in the wooden ruins as Rhino makes the cover!

(As the bell rings Cyrus comes out from the back, Shane McMahon right behind, smiles wide on the faces of both men. With the Ballroom furiously booing they enter the ring, the mystery man entering with them as Shane McMahon grabs a mic from the timekeeper's table.)

McMahon: Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you the new flagbearers of Extreme Championship Wrestling! The ECW World Heavyweight and Television Champion, the "Man Beast" Rhino, and the "Motor City Predator" Monty Brown! Together, we are The Standard of professional wrestling, and just like The Sandman learned, you either measure up, or get beaten down.

(With a final shot of The Standard united in the ring, arms raised high in the middle of a warzone, Joey Styles sends us off with a foreboding line, "Ladies and gentlemen, if this is the start of ECW's regeneration, I'm not sure I want to see the end result.")

Don't ECW have a TV deal??

In real life ECW had actually lost their TV deals completely by the time 2000 ended, and I wanted to keep to that, it seemed like a good way to emphasize the whole "McMahon saving ECW" idea.

Loving the new additions to the roster. I believe I read Heyman talk about Low-Ki in an interview ages ago, about who is wanted to bring in ECW in 2001, and what style. I remember him talking about Low-Ki and MMA influence. Not sure if you have come across this as well, or intend to even go that direction. Looking forward to seeing who else pops up. I see ECW being the place where the X-Division style of wrestling would be born if TNA doesn't pop up in this world.

But with several of ECW's best opposing his rule and making their opinions known at Regeneration, what's next for the new "Chief of Extreme", and what role will The Standard play in his actions?

Rhino © vs Spike Dudley

Comments: In this case, you COULD get away with a Television + PPV champion. Spike's "Giant Killer/Underdog" gimmick works great in ECW... plus, this could always end by DQ either way -- I got this ~60/40 for both outcomes, odds are Rhino keeps the title.

Danny Doring and Roadkill vs The Full Blooded Italians w/ Sal E. Graziano

Comments: Former Champions still have a rematch in their pocket.

Christopher Daniels vs Tommy Dreamer

Comments: Dreamer takes this one

Overall Comments: Really, this episode will "set the table" for the NEW ECW -- and the Main Event will go a long way to how the authority is portrayed.

Christopher Daniels vs Tommy Dreamer

Comments: One thing with your graphic for Daniels: he'd gone bald by '01 :D Anyway, it's not his time yet
