The current plan is to record through Total Mayhem, then start publishing to ensure I can at least achieve my season finale. It's also got a twist to it as well. TCW is a company that is awful fun to create stables in, I’ve always found. Seems like it’s had some big ones thru its history, from the musical one (name escapes me right now – Painful Procedure?) to The Syndicate.

So I think part of why I have an itch to start up a TCW save again is that I have found a new vibe for them. Or maybe more accurately, went a little deeper with a couple of things. With fictional companies, I always like to find a real world company I can compare them to. Not directly, but for the look and feel of the company, the overall vibe and dynamics, how the presentation is, etc Think I’ve mentioned it in this thread before, but I’ve always connected TCW to both the 1988-1991 WCW (updated, of course) and a bigger ROH. A fairly serious company that still makes use of characters and gimmicks. But those characters and gimmicks aren’t really the focus – the in-ring work is. Not really moving away from that conception of them, but….

Recently started watching through the Progress Wrestling shows, and something with that clicked. Progress is obviously a much smaller company than TCW, but some of the dynamics would work well. The “punk rock” aesthetic fits with certain aspects of TCW. So does the “British Strong Style” dynamic they love. Progress has more of a comedy element present, at least through the first 15 shows, that TCW really doesn’t have, at least according to its product. But looking at some of the talent they have and have had under contact….

Unnecessary (probably) history lesson…. TCW started like as Hollyweird Grappling Company, a pretty direct knock-off of the SWF using former SWF stars. When JK Stallings got bored, he sold to tommy Cornell (and some investors) and the company evolved into a more work-rate product, built around its own home-grown stars. Basically the exact opposite of the evolution of WCW from 1988 through to 1995. I’ve always seen Cornell as a savvy, sharp guy with a good business sense, but he never quite had the resources to take on the SWF and it eventually burned him out. To me, the product evolution made sense because it fit the overall talent roster that TCW had (not just fit Tommy himself better) and it made TCW a bit of an alternative to the SWF instead of trying to simply emulate them. Because of that, I’ve long considered TCW to have a slightly different presentation to the SWF. I’ve always envisioned the SWF as similar to the WWF in that regard, an industry leader with cutting edge (and expensive) production quality, graphics, etc. I don’t know that TCW under Cornell would be trying to match that, at least not directly. So I’ve long pictured a more stripped down approach – not poor graphics and such, but just everything a bit more simple. You don’t have the whole arena lighted and a huge stage set up – you have the ring lit up but a lot of the extra stuff is a bit extraneous. Even the colors fit that – I imagine a ring in just black and white, because the focus is on the workers.

The SWF is an arena rock show, full of explosions and lasers and pyrotechnics and props. TCW is a stripped down rock show in a club, all about the music. Punk rock, basically. I guess I was making that connection before watching Progress made me think of it that way.

Same with the “American Strong Style” label. I’ve long thought TCW would using an intentional connection to Japanese wrestling, evidenced by having Ino, Vessey, Taylor, etc. A wrestler from Japan is more likely to fit the TCW product than Supreme. The American Strong Style label really fits as the TCW product as a whole is more athletic, hard-hitting, and physical than Supreme and much moreso than USPW. I wouldn’t go too far with the strong style dynamics and emulation, but I think TCW fans would eat up a good, hard-hitting battle between warriors. Again, it’s something I was already using in how I approach TCW but hadn’t really put that label to it.

Thinking through all of this as I get a new save started gives me the itch to write about it. I’ll probably have to limit that to some “how things are going” recaps in here.

<p>Right now, I'm in April 2017 with my TCW save as user Peter Michaels.</p><p> </p><p>

I lost Vessey and Taylor to USPW and Rocky Golden to SWF but I've managed to steal Des Davids, Zimmy Bumfhole, and Mainstream Hernandez by throwing CC in their contracts (Only way to keep or steal guys in bidding wars because Kyle Rhodes is annoying). I've also benefitted from SWF letting Primus Allen, Lassana Makutsi, Ekuma and Huey Cannonball go without a fight.</p><p> </p><p>

I also pillaged PGHW, BCG, and Saisho to open a touring puro developmental in Japan.</p><p> </p><p>

Eddie Peak is in the middle of a six month title reign and my new ace Wolf Hawkins is locked up under a long-term contract (Yes, with CC).</p><p> </p><p>

With all of this, I'm still at cult.......but I have Bulldozer Brandon Smith, Frankie Perez, Kirk Jameson, DWN, Ernest Youngman, Gino Montero, Silver Tiger and others locked up under long-term deals so I should be fine for the future.</p>

I've just started a TCW save (my third overall attempt with the C-Verse since 2007). I've opened up a development territory, and I have offers out for a bunch of workers. I was considering moving Networks, but opted out do to the $1,8 mil penalty fee... I guess I could, but it seems it would be cheaper in the long run, to stay at Pop.

It is worth it in sponsorship money in the long run. Honestly, unless you are saving money for your own "network" I wouldn't worry about the hit. It is about growing your pop and getting your top guys in front of as many eyes as possible as fast as possible to avoid going down to cult. AT least to me as I don't like letting SWF or USPW getting over on me ever if I can help it. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Also, hope that none of your big names contract is up in the first 6 months to a year or you will likely loss them... Which can be a Big blow.</p>

Its cheaper in the short-term. But the Pop Network limits growth and income. Long-term, moving to a bigger network is the better call. Eat the loss.</p>

I moved to USA Sports 1, and at the same time made Showcase a B-show and got a slot for that as well. Also got on PPV in Canada. The only downside to an awesome USA Sports 1, is that it's pretty low in coverage everywhere else but US and Canada, so if I want to a bigger coverage there down the road, I can't without sitting out the deal.

I also opened a Development Territory, and have made offers to a bunch of people. 45% of them wouldn't negotiate a develoment deal, but that's alright. They're going down there anyway. Maybe just "to work down there". My first TV Show (Total Wrestling) scored an 81, which I'm very happy about.

I haven’t done a TCW game since TEW10 but I’ve been going over this company and this thread thinking about taking on the task of bringing TCW back from the brink. From what I have seen so far the loss of some of your big name workhorses and the aging of others has handicapped the rosters ability to compete star quality and match grade wise. Without completely tearing this company apart, what is the difficulty of bringing TCW up to speed with the SWF and USPW in 16?

You could also try running two A-shows in the US each week to offset the pop loss from losing national battles until you can get a higher SQ worker up in pop (like Kirk Jameson).</p>

<p>I don't understand why people say you can't win the national battle without Marat with TCW? </p><p> </p><p>

I am running a TCW diary you all can read (shameless plug <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><a href="http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=539905" rel="external nofollow">http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=539905</a>) After the 2nd month I am winning the national battle. </p><p> </p><p>

I am a crappy Booker to boot <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/rolleyes.png.4b097f4fbbe99ce5bcd5efbc1b773ed6.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Yea, I got hella lucky that RDJ didn't start Time Decline until the 2nd month. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

But the fact is you can insta push Rocky and Wolf to the moon, get Sammy rolling, then just keep Aaron and RDJ from dropping too far until others can take there place. (Chord, Mo, Jameson, Gauge, etc.) Not to mention Andrews is starting to produce pretty well for me. Marat makes things easier, but it isn't impossible to win right off the bat. </p><p> </p><p>

Now I did give myself USA sports 1 at the start but I could do that without the editor if I really wanted to.</p>

You need to overhaul your roster. There are aging stars and long-timers who just don't really fit the product at this point. And being performance equals popularity is a bit of a challenge, because popularity is faster to build than performance. But the Cverse offers TONS of quality youngsters. Pick your favorites, get them locked down to long deals and start building.

The level of challenge varies save to save. Who is on Time Decline and how far along they are will be a factor. So will the expiry dates on the contracts of your top guys.

You will lose your stars. Accept that. There are three aggressive promotions that are richer than you. Pretty much any of your top guys who have their deal come up will be gone - you cannot complete financially. If you play as the owner and have no spending limits, you might win the bidding war to keep someone like Golden, Hawkins, or Andrews.... but it would cripple you financially.

It is possible, though challenging, to avoid losing the national battles and dropping. Even if you don't go the Marat route. Just have to book carefully, and make effective use of your top stars. Rocky Golden particularly is gold. Showtime has a point - its almost easier in some ways to give yourself some leeway by accepting the drop to Cult and using that six months to build.

I am so tempted to team up Aaron Andrews & Wolf Hawkins (when Andrews loses his title), to go for a Tag Team title run... The C-Verse version of Rated-RKO.

That'd be dope. I've been obsessed with starting a new game just to sign Buddy Garner. So he and Bryan can tear though the tag division.
