EXODUS 2010: Road to War

Saturday Week 3, January 2016. Kanto, Japan. 903 fans in attendance.

http://i.imgur.com/jRAvvrV.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/kEu54ah.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/NIaGIw8.png

Attendance is up from last week, and unlike at Road to War the fans are hot from the get go as funky 70s music plays signalling the entrance of the DISCO Boys as the duo come out with a pair of dancers at their side, juking and jiving their way down to the ring, leading the fans in clapping along to the beat. Unlike the DISCO Boys, Massive Thunder are in no mood to celebrate following their defeat last week and are all business as they come down to the ring and stare down the opponents.

While Kawagishi and Hirose seem to have the edge as individuals, it's the fantastic teamwork of the DISCO boys that shines through as they are a step ahead of Massive Thunder throughout the match as they seem to always be in the right place to prevent their opponents from getting anything going. Commander Kawagishi manages to counter an Around the World Armbar (Spinning Armbar Takedown) from Kokei Shoda with a beautiful floatover DDT, but as he goes up top for his Diamond Dust (Corner Front Flip Face Crusher) Kaii Hanari springs off the rope and hits a beautiful springboard Kaii Krusher (Face Crusher) that sends him crashing to the mat. Hanari rushes to knock Shimpei Hirose from the apron as his partner makes the cover, but Kawagishi is able to get a shoulder up at the last moment. The DISCO Boys signal for their Last Dance (Running Leg Sweep/Rolling Wheel Kick Combination) but Hirose leaps on the apron and pulls down to rope, low bridging Kaii Hanari and causing him to tumble out of the ring. Shoda goes for the Wheelkick, but Kawagishi ducks under it and Shoda is met in mid-air by a Mountain Lariat! Shimpei Hirose signals to his partner and then grabs him in a backbreaker position while Kawagishi goes up top for their trademark Massive Impact (Knee Drop/Backbreaker Combination) to get the three count.

Commander Kawagishi {W} and Shimpei Hirose defeat Kaii Hanari and Kokei Shoda {L} via Pinfall in 15:38

Match Rating: C+

Match Comments

Shimpei Hirose:
The Disco Boys are tough opponents, but there isn't anyone tougher then us.

Commander Kawagishi:
Tsuneyo, you say I don't have the mental edge to be champion? I'll tell you what I have that you don't; Loyalty. You don't give a damn about this company or the people who've helped you get where you are. At War we'll see who really has the heart of a champion!

Naizen's Notes:
A great match that could have easily headlined the show based on the reactions from the crowd. Massive Thunder seem bound to be singles stars which is almost a shame as they're such a great pairing. The DISCO Boys antics and gimmicks means a lot of people underestimate just how good they are in the ring. I don't know if either guy has the kind of potential of Kawagishi or Hirose, but they have a great chemistry teaming together and are real pillars of the division.

Backstage Interview [Online Exclusive]

Naizen Uboshita
is backstage with
Hyotaru
to give him an interview leading to his main event match tonight. He admits he is nervous, but excited for the challenge and eager to prove himself.
Pretty Okakura
interrupts things and runs down Hyotaru, telling him that he doesn't stand a chance against Burning EXILE and that he should just forfeit to save the embarrassment of getting humiliated out there.

Things are getting heated between the two when out of the shot a small child runs up and asks if he can get a photo with Hyotaru. Sligthly confused, but happy at the request Hyotaru goes to get his photo taken as
Orange Tsuchie
enters the frame with several more children of varying ages trailing him. Pretty Okakura chides Tsuchie for recruiting outsiders to interfere in their match later tonight, but Tsuchie explains that the children are orphans who have been given free tickets tonight to the show. Seeing his charges starting to wander a bit too far, Tsuchie wishes Okakura good fortune in their upcoming match before gathering the children and leading them back to the arena.

Pretty Okakura seems annoyed by the whole thing, and walks off in a huff; blowing off Naizen as the interview man asks him about his upcoming match.

The face and heel dynamic in this match was clear from the get-go as Sugmiura attacked X-Caliber before the bell rang, and used his martial arts style to beat down his opponent with viscious strikes and smothering holds. X-Calibre was eventually able to make a comeback hitting a variety of fast paced ranas and springboard variations as he sent Sugimura tumbling around the ring. Sugimura was able to get his knees up on X-Caliber's Springboard 450 and then get to his feet first and stalks his opponent, waiting for him to rise before nailing his Spinning Wheel Kick. X-Caliber crumples to the mat and Sugmiura covers him to get the clean win.

Tobei Sugimura defeats X-Caliber via Pinfall in 9:43

Match Rating: C-

Match Comments

Tobei Sugimura:
Kaoru Shigisawa, I hope you've enjoyed your time in the spotlight because it ends at War when I reclaim the All-Asia Junior Heavyweight Championship for the glory of The Legion!

Naizen's Notes:
Tobei Sugimura is clearly a step or two ahead of his partner in terms of his work both in terms of in ring and connecting with the crowd, and this match did what it needed to in building him up for his title shot at the end of the month.

Burning EXILE
-
Blazing Inferno

40 Years Old (22 Year Pro)

173 Centimeters | 76 Kilograms

Trademark Moves: Exile Driver (Death Valley Driver), Flashfire Kick (Superkick to Kneeling Opponent), Spark of Destiny (Corkscrew Moonsault)

Title History

Junior Heavyweight Grand Prix - 2011 Winner

World Junior Heavyweight - 1st & 4th Champion

1x Burning Junior Champion

3x World Level Tag Team Champion [With The Great Hisato]

2x World Level Universal Champion

Burning EXILE (Oniji Takashita) is a hugely accomplished, but highly controversial wrestler who has wrestled across Japan and is the only man to have achieved the Triple Crown of Japanese Junior Wrestling; having won world titles in BHOTWG, WLW, and EXODUS 2010. A rebel at heart, Burning EXILE left both BHOTWG and WLW on messy terms after altercations with Kaneie Komine and Koji Kojima; eventually helping found Exodus 2010.

Burning EXILE, alongside veterans like Silver Shibanuma, Super Joshuya, and Silver Shark, helped establish the company as a legitimate promotion in it's early days. A new generation of young homegrown talent has risen to prominence in the company, but Burning EXILE remains one of it's biggest stars and is happy to show anyone who challenges him that he is still at the forefront of the Junior revolution.

The Co-Main event of the night was a chaotic affair as all six men in the match got an opportunity to showcase their talents in fast paced back and forth action. HUSTLE-X would eventually take control of the match with some less then legal tactics and in a great bit of heeling send him into the guardrail outside next to the orphans, now sitting in the front row, and mocking his inability to fight back. This backfires, as seemingly spurred on by the cheers of the orphans, Tsuchie fires back with punches, kicks, and palm strikes before getting the hot tag to Japanese Phoenix who runs wild with flips and dives.

The match eventually breaks down, and after a series of signature moves Pretty Okakura is left alone in the ring, but he makes the mistake of posing for the crowd and fails to notice Orange Tsuchie enter the ring. The warrior monk hits the Orange Flash (Corkscrew Kick) and has the visual three count on his opponent, but the referee is distracted dealing with Shirai Yanagawa on the apron. Yanagawa gets whiped out by Musashi on the outside, but the delay allows Pretty Okakura to recover throws a handful of glitter into Tsuchie's eyes as the referee is looking away. Tsuchie is stunned, and Okakura locks him in the Three Second Pose (La Magistral Cradle) to get the three count.

Masao Tsubouchi, Shirai Yanagawa, and Pretty Okakura {W} defeat Orange Tsuchie {L}, Japanese Phoenix, and Musashi in 17:32 via Pinfall

Match Rating: C+

Naizen's Notes:
Good action here. Not quite on the level of the six man match in the main event of the last show or the Tag match which opened the show for that matter, but very good nonetheless.

Ringside Angle

Having won the match,
Pretty Okakura
celebrates in the ring with
Shirai Yanagawa
deciding to take the opportunity to hawk HUSTLE-X merchandise to the fans at ringside. He hands an autographed photo to one of the orphans at ringside, but upon realizing that the child has no money to pay for it he snatches it back and rips it in half. Yanagawa turns to see
Orange Tsuchie
standing in front of him and does a double take, backing away and apologizing.

Pretty Okakura comes down to ringside to taunt Tsuchie over his ill gotten victory, but fails to notice
Musashi
standing behind him as he begins going off on him being an ugly bald loser. Musashi drops the arrogant prettyboy with a
Headkick
, much to the delight of the orphans at ringside, and Yanagawa drags his partner away; promising vengeance.
Japanese Phoenix
makes his presence felt as well, pulling out a piece of folded red paper from his mask and then in a series of quick motions folds it into a origami Phoenix to give to the child whom Yanagawa had ripped the photo in front of.

Masao Tsubouchi
comes back out with one of his T-Shirts and asks if any of the children want it. He picks the most enthusiastic of the young orphans, but tells him that if he wants it he can only earn it in a dance battle. Tsubouchi breaks out his break dancing skills, and the kid responds by flailing about adorably which earns him the support of the crowd and the free T-Shirt as the four competitors lead the crowd in cheering for his victory.

The main event of the evening sees Burning EXILE taking on the young Hyotaru in a singles affair. Early on it seems a mismatch as EXILE controls the pace, but Hyotaru manages to get the crowd behind him as they rally the underdog to fight back.

Hyotaru shows great heart throughout the match, but EXILE is on a mission and shows no mercy to his young opponent. Despite the punishment Hyoratu won't quit, and manages to surprise EXILE and the crowd as he gets a shoulder up at the last moment after a Exile Driver (Death Valley Driver). Exile is stunned as his opponent fights to his feet and starts trading strikes. Hyotaru momentarily gets the better of it, but as he runs to the ropes EXILE follows after him and hits a big knee to the gut that doubles him over. EXILE hits a 2nd Exile Driver (Death Valley Driver), but doesn't go for the cover; instead slapping the face of his young opponent and waiting for him to struggle to his knees before hitting the Flashfire Kick (Superkick to Kneeling Opponent) and then finally making the cover; a formality as Hyotaru seems to be unconscious on the mat.

Burning EXILE defeats Hyotaru in 20:03

Match Rating C+

After the match doctors and a handful of wrestlers come out to check on Hyotaru who's still prone in the ring, but beginning to stern. EXILE pushes the doctors aside and begins yelling down at Hyotaru about disrespect, but is pulled away by Masao Tsubouchi. The two stare each other down in the ring, but eventually EXILE relents and heads back up the entry way; with Tsubouchi going back to checking on his friend. Eventually Hyotaru is able to get to his feet, and walk to the back without assistance from the doctors as the crowd clap appreciatively of his effort.

Match Comments

Masao Tsubouchi:
EXILE, I respect all you've done but if you're looking for someone to fight then you don't need to look any further. Be careful though, you may like to slap people around, but I hit back.

Naizen's Notes:
This match was a good story telling affair that delivered well enough even if it wasn't quite as good as the tag matches earlier on the show. Hyotaru is someone I see a ton of potential in even if he's not quite there at this stage.
