Modding Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I guess I'll weigh in too....

Until the most recent edition of the CV97, which I have been working on for something like 8 years, I always gave Adam Ryland lead billing on the mod over myself. This is because he created the dataset and I have merely been adding to it and tweaking it over the years to take into account the many changes to the main data. Over the years I've also added elements from other mods, most notably That 70s Mod, but also characters from Scapino's awesome old TEW dynasty, Remianen's injury mod, Mammoth's gimmick mod and miscellaneous other bits and pieces. It's important to credit all of these people for the work they have put in, the many hours spent crafting and balancing things to work within the game as well.

It's like citing sources in any form of scientific journal or school essay or anything else.... it's important to know where the data has come from and it's important to give respect to people who have put the time in to get the mod to the state it is in. And if you are doing the minority of the work then giving yourself top billing is generally not fair to the mod maker who put in the effort to get you most of the way to a complete mod.

Even if you changed the stats for almost every worker and tweaked the contract details to make a scenario near perfect, if you were editing all the records that were already there with the base info, a location file, gimmicks, teams, game world set up, injuries, etc... then you are still a minority contributor to that mod and will always need to check with the original creator(s) to make sure it's okay to use the data and release it. It's a common courtesy and basic level of respect to show, even if the mod maker has said the data is free to use.

And with my opinions (that mirror GDS policy on the matter) out of the way, does anyone have anything else that they want to talk about? I'm sure we have more important game related things to talk about. :)

I think having to consult your peers to utilize data is healthy. Without communication, two people can release competing mods from the same period -- it's disrespectful to undercut someone who has already started a project.

My main issue with the thread in question is that the author made no effort to differentiate his mod from Matt Shannon's Young Guns release. Why would a player chose to play New Generation instead of Young Guns? The two mods appear to have similar premises.

I feel BestInTheWorld didn't consult anyone before making the thread and put little thought into his mod.

<p>I'm happy to have my mods used for whatever purposes. I don't need to be consulted each time. However, a nod in the credits on the work I contributed is always nice as I have an ego that needs to be kept sated. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

End of the day, and joking put to one side, acknowledging someone else's contributions is about respect. People with it understand it, those without it, well you're never going to change their Millennial attitude on it.</p>

that's a great attitude. But you do all deserve to be credited, that's one thing that I would disagree with if someone used another mod, or part of and didn't credit them

<p>Are the ratings incredibly inflated in this version of TEW or isit just me? Heat and Velocity seem to be getting realistic ratings in the testing of my mod (in the 0.60 range) but Smackdown and RAW are getting astronomical 19.0 range ratings.</p><p> </p><p>

Has anyone figured out a way to get more realistic results? Is this just something we have to live with?</p>

<p>When you guys are testing a mod for balance, how do you handle situations like Puerto Rico where there usually is a perceived "disadvantage" for say anyone in either the Cornellverse or the Real World mods, due to language problems, do you adjust anything for areas that might be a problem similar to that or do you just leave the area as is, for changing anything might imbalance too much. Can you mod an ingame playable region or is there any chance of modifying any of the world areas only at creation of the database? (If I am not clear please feel free to ask for clarifications) <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Just wondered if there was anything someone could do on a personal level to make changes to the game world they play without creating a full universe, more a 'micro' change instead of a 'macro' change?</p>

Is it possible to install a TEW 2013 MOD within TEW 2016?

I get an error code when I try to edit the 2013 Database that says "Not A Valid Password and TEW Must Close" then it crashes.

Thanks for the help

Yes but you must convert it to TEW16 first, do everything you would do to install a mod but on the first screen of the editor click the converter option and then convert that database to TEW16.

<p>I posted this in the General Discussion forum, but got no response. Realized it might be better situated in this thread:</p><p> </p><p>

Is there a resource or website you use to determine the roster/titles/champions/information of a company at a specific date (for example by year)?</p><p> </p><p>

Thanks in advance.</p>
