WCW: Dangerous Territory

<em>OOC: The booking team’s first decision was to choose </em><em><strong>Nikita Koloff</strong></em><em> as the #1 contender (and eventual successor) to Flair’s world title. Not at the Bash, though (only 20% of the votes) hence the tag match here.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Koloff got way more votes than anyone else (35%), but lots of people voted for ‘Other’ and a few people got multiple votes there too, so they can expect to see some highlighted action in the future. I liked the vote for Dustin Rhodes, and the reasoning behind it, but making him WCW champion in 1991? If it didn’t happen with his daddy booking, it’s probably not going to happen in this reality.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>And as for Nash, 60% of votes went for a Diamond Mine team-up, with the rest split evenly between Terminator and Vinnie Vegas... frankly, the lure of booking a bodyguard who’s also a wisecracking, silent assassin is far too tempting to pass up. Expect a Nash/Hall team to start appearing shortly, especially given what happened elsewhere on the show.</em></p><p>

</p><p> </p><p>

The build here for Koloff/Flair will be real interesting. With the way the match turned out, it's difficult to see who turns face at this point -- since Flair is booking the company, it's hard to see him as a "figurehead" -- but I've always felt the best way to book a figurehead is to keep him AWAY from the belt. </p><p> </p><p>

Either way, removing Flair from the belt makes it likely we're removing Flair from the Horsemen. The gimmick revolves heavily around "holding titles" and without one to hold, Flair hasn't proven himself to the group. However...</p><p> </p><p>

Could a Nature Boy vs. Nature Boy match be in the future? Sort of a "passing the torch match" where the Horsemen turn on Flair allowing a new "Natch" to take the reigns. </p><p> </p><p>

Buddy Landel vs. Ric Flair was a major draw before Buddy became a trainwreck. I think another wrestler could be slotted into the role -- personally, I'm using Dustin "The Natural" Rhodes as Nature Boy in my WCW -- I don't have Ric Flair around, so he's just doing battle with Dusty as Meltzer intended.</p>

</p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Ric stood in one corner of the locker room, arms crossed.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“I’ve made my decision, and nothing you can say will change it,” he said, his voice lowered. Lying down at the other end of the locker room was Dick Murdoch, a cold cloth over his face. Standing between Murdoch and the Steiner brothers were Ron Simmons, Abdullah the Butcher and Black Blood. Flair wondered to himself whether that would be enough to keep the Michigan pair away from their opponent, but found that he wasn’t really bothered either way.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

He turned to the trio gathered around him – Dusty Rhodes, Dick Slater and Barry Windham. That Windham was here was a bad sign, as far as Ric was concerned. The younger man had recently been targeted in a bout of clique building, and had been pulled into the circle of the man being fired.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Ric, he’s apologised, he’s given his word that he won’t do it again-“</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“He said that last time,” Ric replied.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>And the time before that, and the time before that... The man likes to party, you have to give him that!</em></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“No more chances. We’re lucky he didn’t hurt the Steiners tonight. Can you imagine how bad things would get if Scott went down with an injury?”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The trio glared at him. Rhodes in particular seemed on the verge of outright mutiny.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“If you show up wasted, what use are you to this company?” Ric asked. His expression made it clear he wasn’t expecting answers. “Stinking of booze, pills falling out of his bag... The man’s a liability. He’s gone, and that’s the end of it.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

He ran one hand back through sweat-streaked hair.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“He should be grateful I’m not setting the Steiners on him. Those boys are furious, and I don’t blame them.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“You know, this is rich coming from you, Naitch,” Dusty began, before Ric cut him off.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“The difference between me and Dick Murdoch is that I know when to stop, Dusty. Murdoch never learnt that lesson, and I doubt he’s going to learn in his mid-40s.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“That man taught you a lot,” Dusty replied.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Yeah, he did, and I’m grateful... But whatever I owe him is between him and me. I don’t owe him Scott Steiner’s broken neck, or snapping Rick’s knee in two.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Dusty seemed like he wanted to say something more, but Windham pulled him away. Flair sighed as Dusty walked off, turning at the doorway to cast a dark glare in his direction.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Where does that leave me?” Slater asked.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Oh, Dick, I don’t know,” Ric replied. He leaned against the wall. “I’ve just come back from the main event and been told that your partner was drunk </div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>and</em></div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> high in the ring tonight. I can’t let that stand, not so soon into my new role. Honestly, if he was a full-time WCW employee, I could have sent him to rehab, but he’s a contractor, so I have no choice.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“What I can do is kick some ideas around with the booking team over the next week or so. You know Dusty’ll be pulling for you, and you’ve got the skills to do well here, but Murdoch going off the deep end just cost us the next month’s worth of booking for the tag titles, if not more.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

He took a closer look at Slater.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>He got old. I suppose that must mean I did, too.</em></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Balling his hands into fists, Ric flashed Slater his biggest smile.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Just make sure you show up sober, and you’ll still have plenty of people pulling for you backstage, okay?”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Slater shrugged, before heading off after Rhodes and Windham. Flair sagged against the wall.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>You had to do it. If a man can’t handle his booze, well, he can’t handle being a part of Ric Flair’s WCW. Whooo!</em></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Shaking his head, Ric walked off in the other direction, in search of a shower.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Funny story -- James Cornette brought up that when Ric was in Johnson City with WCW in the late 80s, he bought everyone in "Cheers" a drink. Now that I go to school here, I should check it out.</p></div></blockquote>

<strong>The booking team on... New recruits</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">“...baby, I’m telling you, we have got to get us some good guys! There’s no-one good coming out of the boxes, right?”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Ric nodded in agreement.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Dusty’s right. Sting’s under fire – no-one in those boxes is going to be handing out candy.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Right! And it’s not like we’re short on bad guys, even with my boy Murdoch being given the heave-ho.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Dusty stared at Ric, who deemed it wisest to say nothing. Finding no response to his challenge, Dusty instead resumed his speech.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“We’ve got the Horsemen! We’ve got Mistah Hughes! We’ve got Austin and Koloff and the York Foundation and the Freebirds!”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Well, one of those things sure ain’t like the others! Dusty, I know Austin’s a Texas boy, and I know he’s got the TV title, but let’s not act like he’s a big star!” Hayes came back.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Alright, alright, calm down,” Ric cut in, before Hayes and Rhodes could get into it. An argument between the two of them – especially with Dusty clearly still smarting over Slater’s release – would stretch on for the whole meeting, be entertaining as hell, but leave them without any answers to the question he wanted resolved.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“I think we’re light by one, maybe two, and I agree it’s good guys who need to come in. Who do we know who’d fit?”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Dusty shot Hayes an annoyed look, but turned back to Ric. “Well, there’s one man over in the Federation who’d be glad to come home. Ricky Steamboat knows he made a mistake going back to New York, baby – he’s breathing fire, wearin’ a cape and hating every minute.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>Steamboat vs. Flair! Do it, do it now!</em></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Ricky’s great... but how many times can we bring him in and have him go up top?” Jim Crockett came back. “We want someone new – but someone fans will buy into from day one.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Who do you have in mind, Jim?”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Bill Kazmaier. He’s a three-time World’s Strongest Man, the first in history. He’s been trained by Verne Gagne, and he’s worked in Stampede, among others. He’s got the look, he’s got the size, he’s got the talent.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>But can he walk the walk? That’s all that matters!</em></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Okay, I’ll look at Kazmaier, too. Anyone else?”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Well, if we’re thinking outside the box...” Mike Graham, again, looked hesitant. Ric smiled encouragingly at him.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“I know we’ve been looking at young guys for the future, so I thought about this guy I saw in Memphis a while back. He’s young, more of a flyer than we normally go for, but seems to have a good head on him – goes by the name of Jerry Lynn.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Talking of Memphis, I took a weekend and went down there recently,” Hayes said, showing none of Graham’s timidity. “There’s someone who’s doing big things, who’s got charisma to spare, and who wouldn’t mind the extra coin. Someone I think we all know well: Jerry Lawler.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“He’d never leave Memphis,” Crockett came back.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Would he have to? He can split his time, and Lawler’d be great to have backstage.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“You mean, the Freebirds can go drinking with him,” Dusty said. Hayes grinned, but said nothing.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Okay, well, I’ve got four names to look at... or maybe we should bide our time and see who comes up in a few months. Any of our heels getting played out, do we think?”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Not really, but that reminds me,” Crockett said. “Paul E was asking if he’s going to get any clients soon...”</div></div></div></div><p> </p><p>

<p>I gotta go with Steamboat. As cliche as bringing him in is, he is one of the NWA (and by default, this period's WCW) crowd's favorite sons, and having him will no doubt be a boon for the locker room as well.</p><p> </p><p>

You decide! Ric Flair wants to make his first permanent signing. He will try and bring in....<strong>the “World’s Strongest Man” Bill Kazmaier. </strong></p><p> </p><p>

Hm... Kazmaier hasn't had [any, as far as I can tell] use on the board, and I'd love to see him here. Only guy I really don't want to see is Steamer, as Flair's "classic" matches with him were just a year in the rearview at this point.</p>

<p>Kazimer is a poor choice, nothing going</p><p>

for him but a look.</p><p> </p><p>

Jerry Lynn was a great talent but he's</p><p>

too green to mean anything at this point.</p><p> </p><p>

Steamboat has potential. Although he's</p><p>

had those great matches with Flair in the</p><p>

past, there's feuds with Koloff that could</p><p>

be interesting.</p><p> </p><p>

Lawler is probably the best bet though,</p><p>

great worker, amazing promo, and could</p><p>

work either heel or face.</p><p> </p><p>

As a wild card - how about bringing</p><p>

the Funker, Gilbert, or Orndorff in??</p>

His natural foil is Flair, and their trilogy is still pretty recent in this world. I think <strong>Jerry Lawler</strong> would create some interesting possibilities and it isn't something I've seen much of in this time frame, so that's my vote.</p>

why not do a combination of two of them you could bring in Kazmaier and Lynn in as a Tag Team with Lynn selling and carrying the workload and then Kazmaier being the hot tag and it help develops two new guys at the same guy. If you go with Lawler every king needs a bodyguard so you could bring Kazmaier in as a bodyguard to Lawler and help develop a new talent and give Lawler a heater if you would want to do it that way.

:D Oh, c'mon Ric we know that isn't true. Funny story -- James Cornette brought up that when Ric was in Johnson City with WCW in the late 80s, he bought everyone in "Cheers" a drink. Now that I go to school here, I should check it out.

If you mean the Johnson City in Tennessee, I don't think Cheers is open anymore. The current wrestling is godawful around here too.

On-topic, I'm enjoying all the backstage dialogues.

-I know I'm heel heavy on the predictions here...but TV is the place to get heat. I think the York Foundation steals one with some shenanigans...and Dustin just isn't at Barry's level yet.</p><p> </p><p>

--I'd say don't rehash Steamboat...it's been done to death and Lynn simply isn't ready to Flair and would take a long time to get him there I think.</p><p> </p><p>

Kazmaier or Lawler would both be interesting choices. Big Bill in particular I'd really like to see...</p><p> </p><p>

I wouldn't even be opposed to doing nothing and see what shakes out on the roster naturally! Maybe JYD won't be in decline and can step up or a guy like Bobby Eaton can turn or hell...even Zenk!</p>

Ric stared back at the American Dream, supressing the urge to haul off and slug Rhodes across the jaw.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>One day, maybe, but it’s going to count if I ever do it. Tommy Rich isn’t where I lose it.</em></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“You’re right, Dream,” Ric replied. “One too many times, and way too many people annoyed at him. He’s gone – I’ll tell him after the meeting.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

He turned away to avoid the expression of victory on Rhodes’ face, and instead looked at Hayes.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“And you can tell Jimmy to leave the booze at the hotel, too. People are starting to talk.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“People do little else,” Hayes replied, waving the concern aside. Flair frowned.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“I’m serious, PS. Jimmy’s shown up drunk twice now. That has to stop. He’s not protected by being a champion.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Hayes frowned, the warning hitting home.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“I’ll speak to him,” he replied. Ric nodded.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Good. Now, with that dealt with, we have a decision to make on what to do with the York Foundation.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Find a new member,” Crockett said quickly. “York can cover it, and there’s always the option of having them defend the titles against someone to ‘prove’ themselves as the champions. That’s an easy way of getting the new guy some credibility.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“I agree,” Ric said. “It’s too soon to have the Foundation dropping the titles. We need to have them picking up more wins to build momentum, but that also means we need that new member. Any ideas?”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Jerry Lynn,” Graham said quickly. Off the others’ reaction he shrugged, blushing slightly. “We didn’t bring him in, but he’s still there. We can get him.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“One to consider,” Ric said. “Anyone else?”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“We just signed that Mexican guy... Uh...” Hayes pulled a face.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“El Tigre Blanco,” Ric nodded. “Yes, he’s available. I was thinking he could go under a mask as a job guy for a while, but we could unmask him and have him as a member of the Foundation. It’s an option, certainly.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“If we want to give the Foundation some credibility, then dropping in someone with more about them than Taylor or Morton seems like the way forward,” Dusty said.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Anyone in particular in mind, Dusty?” Ric asked.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Two possibilities. Danny Spivey-“</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“He has Japanese commitments,” Ric said, shaking his head.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“-or Billy Jack,” Dusty went on, barely pausing for the interruption.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“That’s... an idea,” Ric said, mulling it over. “He’s feuding with JYD, but honestly, that’s not going anywhere very fast.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Otherwise we could turn someone heel,” Crockett said.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Always with the heel turn,” Graham said quietly. Hayes laughed, and Graham smiled sheepishly. Crockett stared sternly at the pair of them.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Did you have anyone particular in mind?” Ric asked.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Well... There’s the option of turning Robert Gibson heel,” Crockett replied. The others stared at him. “We turned Morton but not Gibson, and the fans are waiting for one or the other to make the switch so that their team is reunited. Give the fans that, but give them the heel version that no-one has seen before. That makes the Foundation much more powerful, and also gives us the option of having Taylor work singles while Morton and Gibson chase one of the tag titles.”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Okay,” Ric said. “Thank you, Jim, that’s given us a lot to think about. I’ll let you know which one we’re going with in the next few days. Now, moving on to the upcoming Clash...”</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">
