Loving the feedback on Zenk. In my mind, he was a missed opportunity in WCW... but at the same time, he does seem to have been a fairly flaky worker.

I found this great site at http://www.oocities.org/colosseum/arena/9893/bday26.htm which has archived several articles on Zenk from the Apter mags and similar during the early 90s, all of which tend to work on a theme - Zenk was a great wrestler, but was missing something.

Now, allowing for the degree of kayfabe present, it doesn't seem much of a stretch to think that Zenk could have been huge. Hopefully in TEW he won't fizzle and fade away due to lack of interest on his part, which places the ball firmly in the court of myself, the Nature Boy... and you guys. I'm hoping we reach the right decision :)

<p>I like the idea of a heel turn with a manager. The right guy could put him over as someone who's so good, he needs contained! Someone so good looking that he'll sleep with any of you fat fans's girlfriends and you'll thank him for it!</p><p> </p><p>

Race would definitely bring prestige to the factor, but Paul would drive the points home. Either way, you didn't ask to come up with that part, so I'll leave that to the hand of the writer <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

<p>There's several reasons for that, #1 of which is booker Dangerously probably having to hold back on the sort of push that manager Dangerously will get under booker Flair...</p><p> </p><p>

<p>Apparently I posted last week's ME preview, not this week's. Confusing for me, when I came to posting. Not sure anyone else noticed... <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Scott Steiner vs. Ric Flair – non-title --very interesting match...I say Flair simply because you don't want to knock pop off of him as you head into National Battles

Ron Simmons vs. Dick Slater -- more upside

Tom Zenk and Brian Pillman vs. Steve Austin and Larry Zbyszko --starting a Zenk turn?

Dustin Rhodes vs. Mr Hughes --Dustin gets saved by Daddy

The Young Pistols vs. The Freebirds © vs. The Lightning Express – NWA United States tag team titles

Lex Luger vs. Barry Windham – non-title --no contest

The Freebirds did everything they could to exploit the fractured relationship between the Armstrongs, but found themselves surprised by Horner and Smothers, who showed remarkable cohesiveness as their partners scuffled in one corner of the ring.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Luger and Windham had a blistering match, and one that had the fans clamouring for a rematch – especially after Arn Anderson charged the ring and caused the disqualification! Windham looked less than pleased at the interference in another one of his matches ... Black Blood has agreed to Junkyard Dog’s challenge for a rematch at the Clash – the whole time stroking his axe in a way that can only be described as ‘lovingly’ ... Sting was brought out from the back to be presented with another gift – a gleaming Harley Davidson motorcycle! <p><strong>Ric Flair ©</strong> vs. Nikita Koloff – WCW World title - I know I voted for a longer build to Flair losing.</p><p>

<strong>Sting</strong> vs. Abdullah The Butcher - No point in putting Abby over, IMO.</p><p>

Lex Luger © vs. <strong>Arn Anderson</strong> – WCW United States title - I'm guessing on this one.</p><p>

<strong>The Steiner Brothers ©</strong> vs. The Freebirds – WCW World Tag Team title - Can't take the belts of the Bros.</p><p>

Junkyard Dog vs. <strong>Black Blood</strong> - I think you want to push Black Blood.</p><p>

Tom Zenk vs. Steve Austin © – WCW World Television title - Time limit draw.</p><p>

Robert Gibson vs. <strong>Richard Morton</strong> - Did Gibson join the York Foundation, or was that just discussion? I say Ricky wins and gets Robert to join up.</p><p>

Bobby Eaton vs. <strong>Barry Windham</strong> - If Arn interferes, then my prediction above switches to Luger.</p><p>

<strong>Brian Pillman and Ron Simmons</strong> vs. Dick Slater and Dan Spivey - It's Pillman and Simmons, of course they're up.</p>

Rhodes saw what was coming down the line, and he made sure to get on the good side of Nikita Koloff! The way I hear it, Dusty was in Lithuania for a bowl of borscht only last week to give Nikita some tips about fighting the Nature Boy.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Whether that’s true or not, Koloff certainly seemed to have Flair’s number, and it appeared that it was only a matter of time until he put Flair down, but with the title on the line there’s no-one who fights harder than Ric Flair.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Ric Flair is the greatest, and Nikita Koloff simply can’t find a way to put him down!</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

But time was not something on Koloff’s side, as the clock neared the thirty-minute mark and the announcer began ticking off the minutes remaining, Koloff seemed to grow jittery, allowing Flair to take control of the match for his longest spell, working over Koloff’s legs to set up the figure four. Koloff fired back with punches and tried for a Sickle, but with his legs weakened he couldn’t score enough to put Flair down, and when the bell rang neither man could be said to have proven their superiority over the other.</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

If you want a WCW crowd to start hot, give them the Steiners to kick off the show, and if they win, then the fans will be jumping! Pity the Freebirds, who ran into the Michigan brothers in mean mood, putting up a fierce contest before Garvin was flattened with a Steinerizer ... Nikita Koloff and Ric Flair both had the chance to speak about their opponent during the night; Neither had much that was positive to say ... Junkyard Dog came across an opponent stronger than him – a rarity, to say the least, but it proved decisive here ... Whatever Barry Windham had to say, the York Foundation wandering oblivious through his interview cut him off, to his annoyance ... Tom Zenk put up a hell of a fight against Steve Austin, as the young Minnesotan always does, but not for the first time Lady Blossom proved the difference as she helped Austin get the win</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Sting got a measure of revenge over Abdullah the Butcher, but before his hand could be raised the latest gift box was torn open from within by none other than Cactus Jack! The wildman from Truth or Consequences tore into the Stinger, capitalising on his weakened state and delivering a huge clothesline that dropped both men over the top rope to the arena floor as the fans screamed at the sight of their hero being assaulted ... Jack would continue the assault later that night, just as Sting thought he’d found safety in his locker room ... Richard Morton pinned Robert Gibson, clean ... After the match, Morton made a shocking offer to Gibson – Thomas Rich was out of the York Foundation, and a place was open for Robert ... Gibson, clearly pained by defeat, agreed to think about it to the displeasure of the crowd ... Whisper it, but Brian Pillman has been in great form recently, and he and Ron Simmons made hay against the veteran pairing of Slater and Spivey</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Can anyone imagine a more conniving pair than Larry Zbyszko and Arn Anderson? The duo combined to snatch the US title from Luger, with the Living Legend distracting Luger at a critical moment, allowing Anderson to score with a Spinebuster for the pin ... The distraction may have turned into an assault after the bell, but Bobby Eaton charged down the aisle to break things up before things went from bad to worse for Luger ... Afterwards, Zbyszko told Tony Schiavone that they were heading out to party with a ‘friend’, suggesting that the duo have plans that may stretch beyond one title victory ... Eaton, meanwhile, continued his return from an injury incurred at Anderson’s hands by facing Barry Windham, and seemed to be shaking off a little rung rust as he fell to a Windham Superplex ... Eaton offered his hand to Windham out of respect after the match; Windham looked surprised, but after a moment he walked away</div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

OOC: For those who missed it over in PSW, I'm in the process of switching jobs right now, so there may be some delays in updates as I have to clear the decks in my current job before I leave.

I’ve been here before.

Flair stared past the assembled throngs to the far end of the locker room, where Jimmy Garvin lay on a bench with a cold towel draped over his head. With a sigh, he turned his attention to those in front of him – Michael Hayes, Dusty Rhodes and Sting. The Steiner Brothers, enraged for the second month in succession, were being held at bay by the combined forces of the Diamond Mine, York Foundation, Dick Slater and the Patriots, and so furious were Rick and Scott that Ric wasn’t sure it would be enough to keep the brothers at bay.

“Rick and Scott are steaming, Ric,” Sting began. “I know it’s obvious, but they asked me to speak for them, because they don’t trust themselves to keep a cool head right now.”

“I get it, Steve, I do. I’d be furious in their position. That’s two months in a row they’ve been hamstrung by wasted opponents. Let them know I’ll do everything in my power to stop it happening again... and that their efforts are very much appreciated, by me, and by Mr Turner.”

Sting nodded, but the expression on his face made it clear how much Mr Turner’s appreciation counted to the Steiners.

“And there’ll be a bonus in their pay this month, to compensate for the hassle.”

“That’ll probably count for more,” Sting said with a nod, before walking off to speak to the brothers.

“What’s going to happen with Jimmy?” Hayes asked.

“Rehab,” Ric replied. “And there’s a place for him when he comes back, if his contract is still in place.”

Hayes nodded, and glanced back at his partner. “And me?” he asked, as though the question scarcely mattered.

“Well, I could team you and Slater up, with your matching gimmicks and all,” he said, flashing Hayes a smile to let him know it was a joke. “But we’ll talk about that at the booking meeting, PS. I wasn’t expecting to need to find a new role for you, brother. Think about it over the next couple of days, and we’ll talk about it when we all meet up, okay?”

Hayes nodded, and with a muttered thank you he walked off to his locker, some distance from Garvin.

“Funny thing,” Ric said, as he watched Hayes head for the shower, stopping to shake hands with the Steiners.

“The Steiners know PS wasn’t at fault out there,” Dusty replied.

“Sure. Not what I was talking about, though,” Ric replied. He turned to look at Dusty. “I had a busy office tonight, Dream.”

“Oh?”

“I mean, especially considering I was in the main event and all, but practically from the moment I put up the card in the locker room, I had people coming in to complain.”

“Well, no-one likes to lose, Naitch,” Dusty said, in a tone that suggested he shouldn’t have to be explaining such a fundamental truth to Ric.

“I know that, Dream. Funny thing was, Zenk was the only one to come complaining about losing his match. I told him to beat it... but I did let Austin know he had to do a fair bit to keep Zenk looking good.”

“Mmm, sure.”

“Everyone else who came through that office door, all eleven of them... They were complaining about Zenk.
Eleven
, Dream. That seems like a
lot
.”

Ric stared at Dusty, who said nothing.

“It’s almost like someone backstage, maybe even someone who knows about the push I had in mind for him, got wind of Zenk’s complaint, someone with a lot of clout, a lot of connections... and spread the word around, trying to leave Zenk with a bad stink about him, the sort of thing that might lead some of the guys to working stiff with him, others sandbagging his moves, the sort of thing that makes it hard for him to have a good match.”

Ric waited for Dusty to reply.

“I don’t know about that, Naitch. Zenk has enough trouble having a good match without anyone deliberately making it worse for him.”

“Mmm, sure,” Ric replied. “But I’d appreciate if you could put the word out backstage. I know you’ve got a lot of clout, a lot of connections... so if you could remind everyone that every match is important, and that anyone actively trying to spoil one is going to be picking up the crew’s bar tabs, then I’d appreciate it.”

He clapped Dusty on the shoulder and beamed at him.

“But other than that, it was a great show, don’t you think? The main event... Well, Nikita and I will have a rematch now we’ve built the story. That should kick off, and we have a lot of fun stuff coming up... but we need to focus on what’s important, so anything like this Tom Zenk nonsense, well, it has to be stopped before it gets started, right?”

Dusty shifted a little under Ric’s hand, but nodded.

“Of course, Naitch. I’ll get to it.”

“I know you will, Dusty. I know you will.”

Just try me, Dream. Just try me.
