QAW: Passing The Torch

Recommended Posts

So close to a perfect score! :)

I like the showcase Flame received, and Brooke picking up the win means you've got a lot of good young talent that is ready to challenge those at the top of the card.

Dark Match: Alexis Lee vs Darkness Cat

Match 1: Killer Kass vs Pamela Rojo (Group B)

Wow, that match between Foxxy and Kass is setting up to be huge.

Match 2: Juana Huracán & Etsuko Arihyoshi vs The Untouchables

Got to think that Talia and Claire will need to keep up their momentum.

Match 3: Laura Flame vs Purple Viper (Group B)

Hmmm, I almost want to say Flame...so I will. :D With an assist from some outside interference.

Match 4: Teresa Perez vs Jillian Jarvis (Group B)

I honestly couldn't make up my mind, so I'll go with the first draw of the tournament.

Main Event: Christy Higgins vs Foxxy LaRue (Group B)

Bonus Questions:

Which ends up the best match of the night? Perez vs Jarvis, two veterans of QAW with high popularity in the Mid-South makes me think this will do better than the main event.

One match ends up being the best singles match either of the two wrestlers have ever been in. Which? Kass vs Rojo, in my playthrough, Kass has a significant performance bonus for opening matches, so I'm guessing that this is hardcoded and not random. *fingers crossed*

Tie Breaker: What is the event rating? I'll say 62, just to hedge my bets.

Dark Match: Alexis Lee vs. Darkness Cat

I see more upside in Alexis.

Killer Kass vs. Pamela Rojo

USPW seems to release Kass more often than not. It always seems a mistake - or, at least, a boon to smaller promotions when they drop her. I can only hope USPW makes the same decision in my universe!

Juana Huracán & Etsuko Arihyoshi vs The Untouchables

They have a team name. Unless they're J.O.B. Squad or facing off against high-level workers, I think established tag teams should go over erstwhile singles competitors.

Laura Flame vs Purple Viper

The Viper remains the apex predator, giving a bit more momentum to the Shockwave champion - though, as this isn't a title match, Viper could still lose if you're trying to bump Flame up the card.

Teresa Perez vs Jillian Jarvis

The win will be dirtier than a pig in mud, but I think Jarvis is going to go with the idea that if you're not cheating, you're not trying hard enough.

Christy Higgins vs Foxxy LaRue

The Foxxy Lady takes the victory here - she's ridiculously charismatic, isn't she?

Match of the Night - Higgins vs. LaRue

QAW is pretty balanced between popularity vs. performance, but star power and charisma translate in any fed.

Best Singles Match They've Ever Been In - Flame vs. Viper

I'm not sure about your universe's Flame, but my universe's Flame can pull some impressive match ratings out in a pop > perf fed. With a more balanced fed, I think she's even stronger.

Event Rating: 65

I think the needle doesn't move much in terms of show ratings, but the card looks maybe a scooch better than the previous card scoring 64.

Sunday, week 2 July 2018, the day before Army of One</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Sarah and Boss Man is sitting in the office. Technically Farrah Hesketh's, Sarah has all but appropriated it. An entire wall is covered with different colored post-it notes. Sarah is by the computer, while Boss Man is relaxing in his armchair flicking through the pile of wrestling magazines on the side table next to him. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Boss Man:</strong> "Have you heard that Alina got a new gig? Signed with AAA."</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sarah:</strong> "About time. I hope she's done soul searching and figured her shit out."</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Boss Man:</strong> "Yeah... I think it's just her nature to trust people and perhaps not realize when she's in with a bad crowd."</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sarah:</strong> "I don't care if you smoke weed in your off time. None of my business. I care if you get in the ring with one of my other wrestlers while you're stoned. I think I was lenient when I didn't fire her the first time. And then she went and ****ing did it again!"</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Boss Man:</strong> "It's a shame, it is."</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sarah:</strong> "Speaking of other news from the big world of wrestling, the regional battles keep going our way. #1 in the South West as usual, and now #1 in Mid Atlantic as well."</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Boss Man:</strong> "I heard GSW are on the ropes."</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sarah:</strong> "I'd like to say they picked the wrong fight, but I don't know if we had much to do with that. I'm sure their troglodyte fans will be able to twist it into being our fault though."</p><p> </p><p>

Boss Man nods and pick up an old issue of the Wrestling Gazetteer, the January issue. </p><p> </p><p>

"Do you know who the Wrestling Gazetteer ranked the second best female wrestler in the world half a year ago?"</p><p> </p><p>

Sarah chuckles. "She made sure to let me know, in case I forgot when we negotiate her salary next time. Fuyuko Higa."</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Boss Man:</strong> "She's right after your counter part at 5SSW, Devil Karube. Then Amber Allen is third. Do you remember who was fourth?"</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sarah:</strong> "Remind me."</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Boss Man: </strong>"Brooke Tyler. Despite being let go from NOTBPW in the summer, Billy and the guys at the Wrestling Gazetteer rated her that high."</p><p> </p><p>

Sarah sighs a deep sigh. "I know. They both should be top names here. Higa could and should teach freakin' classes to every one of us here, and Brooke would be best in class. I don't know what to do. The fans just won't take to them. Am I booking them wrong?"</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Boss Man:</strong> "Higa's gimmick isn't working for her. It seemed like a good fit to make her a rebel in American Sweethearts, but the crowd reaction has been..."</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sarah:</strong> "Dead. It has been dead. She goes out, give them world class performances, and you can hear a pin drop." </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Boss Man:</strong> "So let's change it. After Contender's Crown, you can let her go through a transformation into something better. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sarah:</strong> "Let's get creative then. Do you have something in mind?"</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Boss Man:</strong> "I do..."</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#800080;"><em>OOC: I would love your input here. You get to be the voice of Boss Man advising his pupil. What kind of gimmick could we transition Higa into? I have a few thoughts, but I'll happily take any suggestion. Higa is best with Cool or Wholesome gimmicks, if that helps, and QAW's product discourages too subtle gimmicks.</em></span> </p><p>

Given her in-ring skills, what about going with the "No Gimmick Needed" gimmick? It's a realistic one, so no extra skills needed, can be used face or heel, and it fits in terms of getting Higa over on the fact that she's good at wrestling.

That is not that far from what I had been thinking about. I had two basic ideas - one almost a shoot version of who Higa is, and one a more outrageous lucha persona. QAW is supposed to be a lucha promotion after all, but I think it is difficult to write that kind of characters. Maybe I'm overthinking it though. Just because someone has a colorful gimmick doesn't mean they have different motivations. Hm...

<b>Dark Match: Alexis Lee vs Darkness Cat</b></div><div>The match is high paced with plenty of aerial attacks from both participants, but primarily Darkness Cat who takes every opportunity to climb up on the top turn buckle, perching in wait for the right moment to dive on her opponent. The spot of the match happens as she tries a diving cross body attack, but Alexis is on her toes and in one fluid motion turns the attack into a DDT which Darkness Cat does not recover from.</div><div><b>Alexis Lee win in 10:12 by pinfall</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: D+</b></div><div><br/></div><div>Backstage, a quick shot of a woman in a package delivery uniform, brown cap, brown shirt, sun glasses and red hair in a harsh pony tail. We don't get a terribly good shot of her, but to some, she certainly looks familiar. She has a package in hand, looks a bit lost and asks some of the backstage crew for Paige Croft. He points her down a corridor and she walks off. </div><div><br/></div><div></p><p>

<b>Match 1: Pamela Rojo vs Killer Kass (Group B)</b></div><div>There's a sense of a true heavyweight bout when Rojo and Killer Kass step into the ring, possibly the two most powerful wrestlers in QAW facing off. Refusing to back down, Rojo goes toe to toe with Kass as soon as the bell rings, exchanging blow after blow. Initially it looks like neither is willing to back down, but the blow for blow ends when Kass throws herself forward with a roar and flattens Rojo with a heavy lariat. Even though Rojo immediately gets up, it's the start of a trend where Rojo tries to stand up to Kass on Kass' terms, but the size disadvantage take its' toll. While Kass is dominant, Rojo shows she's not harmless as Kass a couple of times is knocked loopy by powerful high kicks. In the end though, Rojo is unable to capitalize, and instead it is Kass who wears down her opponent little by little until Pamela has nothing left in the tank, and when Kass delivers the Kill Switch, it's almost a show of mercy.</div><div><b>Killer Kass wins in 9:58 by pinfall</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: B- (76)</b></div><div><br/></div><div></p><p>

In a locker room, Talia Quinzel, Claire Winters and Selina Svelte are hanging around. Svelte is wearing the black and white gang colors of Bad Girls Club while Talia and Claire has gotten color coordinated white and blue ring gear.</div><div><br/></div><div>"You're wasting away in that club Selina. Join up with me and Selina and we'll run this promotion."</div><div><br/></div><div>"I don't know Talia... It's not that easy."</div><div><br/></div><div>"What? Are you afraid they'll beat you up? Aw, let big sister here protect you..."</div><div><br/></div><div>"Ha ha. Very funny. Yeah, they will go after me if I do that and you won't be able to stop them. More importantly though, what's the prospect here? If you were looking to start the Uprising again, it would be a tempting proposition, but you already have a successful tag team with Claire. What do you need me for?"</div><div> </div><div>"I don't want you to pair with me," Talia says, pausing for effect. "I want you to pair with Claire." </div><div><br/></div><div>"What?" Claire and Selina says in unison.</div><div><br/></div><div>"I thought..." they keep talking in unison before stopping to glare at each other.</div><div><br/></div><div>Claire raises a finger to hush Selina. "What the hell Talia? We have something good going. What's going on?"</div><div><br/></div><div>Talia rolls her eyes. "You never look at the big picture. We're not breaking up the team NOW. We'll win the tag team championship, we hold it for a while until someone figures out how to beat us, THEN you two form the Insurgency while I go on to claim my rightful World Championship." Talia says, pleased.</div><div><br/></div><div>Claire looks sullen. "Sounds like you have it all figured out." </div><div><br/></div><div>"The Insurgency?" Selina says, with some doubt in her voice.</div><div><br/></div><div>"Obviously." Talia says answering them both, clearly not hearing Selina's question mark.</div><div><br/></div><div>"I'm not sure I'm on board with this," says Claire, shaking her head. "But either way, tonight we're the Untouchables. Let's go break some faces."</div><div><b>Segment Rating: D</b></div><div><br/></div><div></p><p>

<b>Match 2: Juana Huracán & Etsuko Arihyoshi vs The Untouchables (Quinzel & Winters)</b></div><div>There is an air of supreme confidence over Talia Quinzel in the ring, which might be why Juana Huracán gets the drop on her right away with a flurry of uppercuts, stiff kicks and a snap suplex that separates the two long enough for the crowd to let out their excitement. When Talia gets up she looks furious, and her mood isn't helped by the DDT Juana gives her. Talia is pinned, but puts a foot on the ropes before the referee has counted to three.</div><div>This time, Talia just rolls out of the ring to recover. When Juana pursuits, Talia runs away, Juana chasing after her but not noticing when they turn a corner that Claire Winters is lying in wait, delivering a bone crunching spear to the Mexican MMA-fighter. Claire tags in, push Juana into the ring and start beating up on her, until Juana with much effort manages to tag out for Etsuko. Again the match changes pace as Etsuko is only too eager to go into close combat with Claire, looking for a way to lock in one of her many submission holds on the brawler. </div><div>It backfires however as the two lock up in a struggle to make the other submit, but Etsuko doesn't notice that Claire keeps moving them towards the Untouchable's ring corner, and before Etsuko has noticed what's going on, Talia has tagged in and proceeds to curb stomp the smaller Japanese wrestler who is still unable to go anywhere, locked up with Claire. The rest of the match consists of the two bullying Etsuko, taking turns to beat her into the turn buckle, until Claire decide enough is enough and with a final slam to the mat puts Etsuko in position for a pin, and the referee counts her out.</div><div><b>Winters win by pinfall in 16:06</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: B- (72)</b></div><div><br/></div><div></p><p>

The match is just over, Claire is holding Etsuko by the neckline and looks ready to continue the beating while Talia has stepped into the ring facing Juana, challenging her to try and do something about it, when music hits and Christy Higgins come rushing down the ramp. Talia looks up, finding discretion the better part of valor and rolls out of the ring just as Christy slides into it. Seeing her nemesis disappear, Christy turns her attention to Claire instead who looks up with surprise on her face as Christy gives her a boot to the head, put her in position for a pedigree as she locks eyes with Talia who is retreating up the ramp. Christy give the cutthroat sign to Talia before she delivers the pedigree to Winters who is left out cold in the ring as Christy scream her challenge, mixed with a healthy dose of obscenities at Talia who just waves her off and disappears backstage.</div><div><br/></div><div></p><p>

<b>Match 3: Laura Flame vs Shockwave Champion Purple Viper (Group B)</b></div><div>Riding a high from a great showing against Killer Kass at last event, Laura Flame goes into the match with the mind to show what she can do, and together with Purple Viper put on a high flying display that turn into alternating pin attempts. The big turn of the match happens when Laura looks to deliver her Flame Fire Kick, but Purple Viper gets out of the way and referee Erin Lawrence instead getting in its way. Temporarily without a referee to keep them in check, the match deteriorates into a flurry of cheap shots and dirty tricks, but Purple Viper shows her experience. It seems for every hit from a kendo stick she eats, Laura take two chair shots. And right before Erin Lawrence stirs in the ring, Laura goes for a belly to belly hold, only to get a cloud of black mist sprayed into her face by Viper, blinding her. With a blind opponent and a referee ready to count, Purple Viper make the proceedings short, bombing the helpless Laura Flame into the mat before pinning her for the 3-count.</div><div><b>Purple Viper wins by pinfall in 10:41</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: B- (72)</b></div><div><br/></div><div></p><p>

Jillian Jarvis is already in the ring when the lights in the arena goes out. Search lights start sweeping around the arena, the sound of rotor blades and authoritarian voices over tinny speakers inform the public to stay inside, to report anything suspicious and that that hosting refugees is a crime punishable by death. A shape moves quickly past the search lights as gradually music beats start to drown out the sounds of the police state.</div><div><br/></div><div><a href="https://youtu.be/RZul_mSFczs" rel="external nofollow"><i>I lick shots at the brutal charade</i></div><div><i>As the polls close like a casket</i></div><div><i>On truth devoured</i></div><div><i>A Silent play in the shadow of power</i></div><div><i>A spectacle monopolized</i></div><div><i>The camera's eyes on choice disguised </i></a></div><div><br/></div><div>On the video screen, hands type frenetically at a keyboard, code stream over the screen, and one by one the white search lights are replaced, lighting up the arena with the American Sweethearts logo instead. Before anyone know it, Teresa Perez jumps into the ring seemingly from out of nowhere. The perceptive realize she's been hiding among the ring workers the whole time just waiting for her cue. With a flair, she pulls back her hoodie and scream out her adrenaline to a strong reaction from the crowd. If Higa has had trouble getting her rebel gimmick to work, Teresa has taken to it like fish to water, and the fans love her for it.</div><div><b>Segment Rating: B</b></div><div><br/></div><div></p><p>

<span>http://i.imgur.com/tjDJHC2.jpg</span>  vs <span>http://i.imgur.com/HVIJsmp.jpg</span> </p><p>

<b>Match 4: Teresa Perez vs Jillian Jarvis (Group B)</b></div><div>The bell rings, and Teresa wants to go straight for the big moves, but Jarvis won't play ball, leaving Teresa attack the empty air, landing in the middle of the ring back first with a thud. This becomes the pattern - Teresa wanting to go for the big moves, but Jarvis frustrating everyone with her unwillingness to get involved. They chain moves together, only for Jarvis to walk away when the fans expect her to eat the big finisher. </p><p> </p><p>

She can't prevent every maneuver however, and when she rolls outside, Perez does not hesitate to take flight, delivering the cross body from the top rope. Outside the ring however she's unable to maintain the pressure as Jarvis thrives among the sharp corners and hard surfaces that she has no compunctions about slamming Teresa Perez into. She throws the smaller Perez into crowd barriers, slams her into ring steps and drive her face first into corner posts. </p><p> </p><p>

When the referee threatens to count them out, she rolls into the ring for a moment only to roll out again to resume the abuse. The crowd goes crazy at any sign that Perez could mount a comeback, so when Teresa turn the tables and suplexes Jarvis into the ring steps, the reaction is deafening. Perez doesn't have much left in the tank but manages to roll into the ring, starting a count on Jarvis outside the ring and getting a few seconds to rest. When Jarvis stumbles back into the ring to break the count, Perez takes that moment to bounce against the ropes and deliver a big hurricanrana sending Jarvis flying before landing flat on her back. Teresa takes a second run for the ropes, deliver a solid soccer kick to Jarvis straight into a quick roll up. Before Jarvis has had time to react, the referee has counted to three and Teresa is jumping around in the ring celebrating her win out of nowhere while Jarvis looks stunned.</div><div><b>Perez wins by pinfall in 20:50</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C+</b></div><div><br/></div><div></p><p>

Paige Croft is in civilian clothes backstage when a stage hand sees her. "Did you get the package?" he asks. She tilts her head a bit but denies having received anything. "Oh, I'm sure they left it in your locker room then," he says and goes on his way.</div><div><br/></div><div>Bemused, Paige walks toward her locker room. In front of the door with her name on it embossed on a golden star, she pauses, and the style of the video starts changing. There's apprehension on her face, slowly dramatic violins can be heard, and as she carefully opens the door, the segment suddenly have the trappings of a horror movie. Inside the room, it is pitch black, all that can be heard is a muted tick tock sound. Ramping up the tension, the sound of the clock becomes more and more oppressive. Paige turn the light on, and on a table is a package, from which the sound seem to come from. A camera on Paige's face show how tense she is, a bead of sweat forming on her forehead as she approaches the package. Sensible people might have turned around if they suspected a bomb had been delivered to their room, but hey, horror logic. With shaking hands, she fumbles with the box lid until it opens the lid. For a moment, the camera rests on her face as she looks down into the box. When it changes to her point of view, we see that it is indeed an old fashioned alarm clock producing the sound. There is also a post card from a Las Vegas casino. She turns the card and reads:</div><div><br/></div><div></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><i>TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK</p><p>

BUT NOW IS TOO LATE FOR YOUR REGRETS</i></p></div><p></p><p></div><div><br/></div><div>Paige looks more and more angry as she reads the card. Crumbling it together she runs to the door looking around as if whoever delivered it might still be hanging around somewhere.</div><div><br/></div><div>The camera cuts to outside the arena where we only get a shot from the back of the woman that delivered the package. <b>Match 5: Christy Higgins vs Foxxy LaRue (Group B)</b></div><div>Christy has a look of slight paranoia as Foxxy reach out her hand for a hand shake before the match, but she eventually accepts the gesture before the referee Erin Lawrence get the match started. The two deliver some great wrestling, and it is obvious that wrestling against Foxxy brings out the best from Christy who put on a fantastic performance. The key moment happens when Foxxy goes to the top turnbuckle, Christy climbs up after her, they exchange blows until Foxxy takes a bad fall to the floor outside the ring, and as the referee climbs down to check on her, Talia Quinzel appears, approaching the ring. </p><p>

<span>http://i.imgur.com/LqQJWHu.jpg</span> </p><p>

Foxxy climbs into the ring behind Christy and it looks like it's going to be the typical distraction finish, but instead of taking advantage Foxxy launches herself past Christy between the ropes in a suicide dive knocking Talia to the floor. Following it up with a flurry of punches, Talia makes a cursing retreat while Foxxy returns to the ring to a crazy pop from the crowd and a stunned Christy Higgins. Returning to the ring it looks like Foxxy is favoring one foot a bit, and it soon becomes apparent that she's not moving as well in the ring. Christy almost looks remorseful as she easily dodges under Foxxy's clumsy swing and grabs hold of Foxxy for a suplex, but underestimating Foxxy LaRue is a mistake and the attempted suplex goes nowhere, instead countered into a package power bomb. Foxxy covers Higgins and Lawrence start the count.</div><div><br/></div><div>1...</div><div><br/></div><div>2...</div><div><br/></div><div>But Christy kicks out! Foxxy lifts her up for another power bomb, but her foot gives in and Christy slips out of her grip. Christy uses the ropes for momentum and attempts a hurricanrana, but Foxxy has her read and counters the move, slamming Higgins back first into the mat. This time, Christy doesn't get up when Erin Lawrence count to three.</div><div><b>Foxxy LaRue wins by pinfall in 20:01</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: B</b></div><div><br/></div><div></p><p>

Match is over, Erin has raised Foxxy LaRue's arm declaring her the winner. Christy is slow to her feet, whether from being battered by LaRue or from disappointment is hard to say, but she approaches the celebrating Foxxy and extends her hand. They shake hands, Foxxy give Christy a hug, and they proceed to celebrate together to the cheers of the fans.</div><div><b>Segment Rating: A</b></div><div><b><br/></b></div><div><b>Event Rating: B (77)</b></div><div><b>Next Event: Contender Series V at Arkansas Colliseum</b></div><div><hr/></div><div>With Army of One, round 4 of both groups is complete. <p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">Prediction Contest:</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Match of the Night: </strong>Foxxy LaRue vs Christy Higgins</p><p> <strong>Match of their Career:</strong> Pamela Rojo vs Killer Kass</p><p> </p><p> kingjames: 6/8</p><p> MrWolf101: 5/8</p><p> </p><p> Congratulations kingjames, a win on the first attempt! <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I will DM you about the prize shortly. It was the Laura Flame/Purple Viper match that made the difference. Then you got one bonus question right each. </p><p> </p><p> Total score (contest ends with Contenders Ball): MrWolf101 (5), DarEatWorld (1), John_Lions (1), kingjames (1)</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="MrWolf101" data-cite="MrWolf101" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="42699" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I like the showcase Flame received, and Brooke picking up the win means you've got a lot of good young talent that is ready to challenge those at the top of the card.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Thanks, yeah, I think Brooke and Laura will be fine. It's just going a little slower than expected, but part of that is a stacked main event scene. With the time passed, some of these wrestlers that might have seemed average when the game started have become really quite good. They are not that easy to just push aside.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="MrWolf101" data-cite="MrWolf101" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="42699" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div> <em>Wow, that match between Foxxy and Kass is setting up to be huge.</em> </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I know, right? <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I kind of wished I had planned that match for the last round and not now for Contender Series V.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="MrWolf101" data-cite="MrWolf101" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="42699" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div> Match 4: Teresa Perez <strong>vs </strong>Jillian Jarvis (Group B)<p> <em>I honestly couldn't make up my mind, so I'll go with the first draw of the tournament.</em></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="kingjames" data-cite="kingjames" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="42699" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div> <em>The win will be dirtier than a pig in mud, but I think Jarvis is going to go with the idea that if you're not cheating, you're not trying hard enough.</em></div></blockquote><p> I think you both have this correctly pegged. It really could have gone either way, but Jarvis was the favorite. Perez is not quite on Jarvis level, but clearly on a positive trajectory. A surprise win against the vindictive Jarvis the start of a new feud perhaps?</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="MrWolf101" data-cite="MrWolf101" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="42699" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div> Which ends up the best match of the night? <strong>Perez vs Jarvis</strong>, two veterans of QAW with high popularity in the Mid-South makes me think this will do better than the main event.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Looking at the card, it is hard to believe it ended up the worst match of the night, except the dark match. <p>Ahh, so close. Damn my indecision on Perez's match. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Hopefully I'm not too late on the Higa gimmick change. There's always the outlandish route, with something say like a Ninja, but I don't think you can go wrong playing to Higa's real backstage attitude, so I'll go with Egomaniac.</p><p> </p><p> Similar to what you described with Higa and Tyler, I could never move the needle on Amber Allen in DPW for whatever reason. I don't think it's the booking, just sometimes certain wrestlers don't click with certain products, no matter what their stats.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Dr_Avalanche" data-cite="Dr_Avalanche" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="42699" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><p> I don't know what it is, but it seems USPW have a profile for their women's wrestlers that Kass just don't fit. More likely, when USPW goes out and gets J-Ro, Jaime Quine, and/or Sara Marie York at the beginning of the game, corresponding releases need to be made to keep USPW's Women's division at the required 6 to 8 members. Not that I'm complaining either. <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Dark Match: Thea Davis vs <strong>Claire Winters</strong></p><p> <em>Another win for Claire, another good performance from Thea.</em></p><p> </p><p> Match 1: <strong>Higa</strong> vs Brooke Tyler (Group A)</p><p> <em>I know this isn't real, but I'd pay to see this match. Brooke can gain while losing, while I feel like Higa needs the win more.</em></p><p> </p><p> Match 2: <strong>Juana Huracán</strong> vs Maria Guest (Group A)</p><p> <em>Out of all the young wrestlers on the roster, I feel like Maria might work the best for QAW's style, but I think her push is coming after the tournament.</em></p><p> </p><p> Match 3: Chitose Ariwara & Etsuko Arihyoshi vs <strong>Princesses of Pain (Croft & Mercado)</strong></p><p> <em>Hmm, this would be a big win for Ariwara if she can pull it off, but I like the Princesses of Pain name, so I have to go with them. </em><img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Match 4: <strong>Christy Higgins</strong> vs Shockwave Champion Purple Viper (Group B)</p><p> <em>Wow, I wish I had reserved a spot on the Higgins' bandwagon. I was honestly shocked that she was able to be in a B rated match, and I've never been high on her in-ring ability, but the Shockwave title chase seems to be a good place to find out if there is something there.</em></p><p> </p><p> Match 5: Pamela Rojo vs <strong>Teresa Perez</strong> (Group B)</p><p> <em>I'm trying to learn from my mistakes. </em><img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Match 6: <strong>Jillian Jarvis</strong> vs Laura Flame (Group B)</p><p> <em>Jarvis with a vengeance.</em></p><p> </p><p> Main Event: <strong>Foxxy LaRue</strong> vs Killer Kass (Group B)</p><p> <em>Speaking of matches I'd pay to see. This feels like a good region to have this match as Kass will have pretty good popularity all across America thanks to USPW, and Foxxy has the star power to pull a great match from anyone (ehem...Christy Higgins). Hard to pick, but if Kass wins here, she runs away with the group, so I'll go with Foxxy.</em></p><p> </p><p> Bonus Question:</p><p> Which is Match of the Night? <strong>Foxxy vs Kass</strong>, I can see the tag match being a strong contender, but if Foxxy can pop a B rating with Higgins, then this main event should be just as good barring bad chemistry.</p><p> </p><p> Tie Breaker: What's the event rating? <p>Card for Contender Series V:</p><p>

Arkansas Coliseum (South East, capacity: 2000)</p><p> </p><p>

Dark Match: Thea Davis vs <strong>Claire Winters</strong></p><p>

Can Claire get it done on her own without Talia on her side?</p><p>

<em>Yes, yes she can, because I can't see her getting an L in a dark match.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Match 1: <strong>Higa</strong> vs Brooke Tyler (Group A)</p><p>

The star of Japan vs the star of Canada.</p><p>

<em>You been trying to get Higa over, I can't see you deciding to debut a new gimmick with a loss.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Match 2: <strong>Juana Huracán</strong> vs Maria Guest (Group A)</p><p>

An informal submission match? Expect a lot of mat wrestling.</p><p>

<em>This'll be a good little match. Guest's on her way up, and she'll move up the card even while losing this one.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Match 3: Chitose Ariwara & Etsuko Arihyoshi vs <strong>Princesses of Pain (Croft & Mercado)</strong></p><p>

A Japanese Connection vs the Authority .</p><p>

<em>As much as the Japanese performers are excellent in the ring, QAW's still fairly equal on pop and performance. The Princesses get the nudge, maybe through underhanded tactics. </em></p><p><em>

</em></p><p>

Match 4: <strong>Christy Higgins</strong> vs Shockwave Champion Purple Viper (Group B)</p><p>

A win here would make Higgins a future contender for the Shockwave title.</p><p>

After that battle with Foxxy, Higgins may be moving up in the world. A <em>victory here for a later title shot makes a lot of sense. Might not be fully clean - could see a DQ victory here, to protect Viper.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Match 5: Pamela Rojo vs <strong>Teresa Perez</strong> (Group B)</p><p>

Different styles collide, the brawler vs the luchador.</p><p>

<em>Riding the momentum from an upset victory over one of QAW's top heels!</em></p><p> </p><p>

Match 6: <strong>Jillian Jarvis</strong> vs Laura Flame (Group B)</p><p>

It would be a notch in the barrel for Flame to take down the Ronin 3 leader.</p><p>

<em>I think Jarvis gets back on track after an unexpected loss at the previous event.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Main Event: Foxxy LaRue vs <strong>Killer Kass</strong> (Group B)</p><p>

Foxxy has to be the top face of QAW, and Kass wants to be the top heel.</p><p>

<em>I don't think it's time to sacrifice Kass' popularity yet. Close match but Kass pulls it out.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Bonus Question:</p><p>

Which is Match of the Night?</p><p>

<strong>LaRue vs. Kass</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Tie Breaker: What's the event rating (Last show at Arkansas Colliseum was a 59)</p><p>

<strong>With a little extra star power, 63</strong></p>

I figure I'll make around $300,000 just from the Contender Series, and that's with most events held outside our home region. The road to Cult level does not seem difficult, just long. That said, I'm not sure I'm in any hurry to get there anyway and may take my time to build broader popularity in more regions than what is strictly necessary to take the step up. Regional is a comfortable place to be, as long as one accepts that the bigger companies can swoop in for your stars at any time.</p>

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size:36px;">The Wrestling Gazetteer Podcast</span></span></p><p>

<hr></p><p>

<span style="font-size:18px;"><strong>A conversation with Killer Kass</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:18px;"><strong>

</strong></span></p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i.imgur.com/Qz1443V.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/SrJMR1G.jpg</span> </p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Billy Barton:</strong> We're back after those commercials with another episode of Superstar Highlights where we interview the brightest shining stars of QAW. This week we have a very special guest, the one and only, Killer Kass! </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> Pleasure's all mine.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy: </strong>Let's dig in to the questions right away. I have a lot I want to know. When you signed with QAW, you were a member of the Bad Girls Club from day one. How did that happen?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass: </strong>I think you know that I am a believer in capitalistic fundamental ideas. I am a supplier of a commodity not many others have, and I sell it to the highest bidder. When my services became available, Capitano realized that my prices are not unreasonable. She pays, I wear the club colors.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Does that mean the only thing stopping you from leaving the Bad Girls club is that nobody has made a better offer?</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/ZGbvgUH.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> If you want to ruin your reputation, that's how you handle your agreements. If you want to be a successful free agent, you have to build trust. I have that. My reputation is this: I deliver what I promise. My "contract" with Capitano is not until the end of days, but she know when it's time to renegotiate. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Ok, so for the time being, you are a Bad Girls Club member. The reason you were on the market is a hot topic among our listeners. Rumours abound. Some say there was a falling out, some say you didn't fit in with the vision of USPW wrestling, some have even suggested racism. Can you bring some clarity?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> I have thought a lot about this. I left USPW on amicable terms, I will say that right away. There is no grudge. I hope the color of my skin had no part in their decision and I have no reason to believe it had. I think their idea of what women's wrestling should bring to their mainstream product is such that I just don't fit the mold.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Because of your style of wrestling...?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> I am a violent woman, Billy. I don't do flippy shit from the top turn buckles. I don't look like a runway model. I'm built to beat people up, and that's what I do. USPW doesn't want that. I don't think USPW wants fans that want to see that. QAW is different. Still broad appeal, but you're allowed to be different. Look different. It's not the Wrestling Stepford Wives. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> If I didn't know a cold mercenary heart was beating in your chest, I'd almost get the impression that you feel at home in QAW?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass: </strong>Don't push it bub. Yeah, I like it here. There are good and bad employers out there you know, and just because you know you might be in a position in the future where the money leads you to a bad employer does not mean you can't appreciate the good ones, you know? </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Bills to pay, retirement funds to invest in... Not everyone can afford to choose their employers based on who has the best after work.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> Preach it. </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>

<span>http://i.imgur.com/koWhAJc.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/xYuulxj.jpg</span> </p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Speaking of work for hire, you were involved in a rather controversial attack on Fuyuko Higa the morning before her scheduled match against Maribel Mercado. Evidence brought to light suggests Maribel paid you to take out Higa. Any comments on that?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass: </strong>We are wrestlers. We trade in violence. You see wrestlers fight each other outside the ring all the time. The only difference is, I charged money for it. I don't make apologies. I don't make excuses. If Higa has complaints, she should come at me, if she believes she has what it takes. I have a feeling she doesn't.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy: </strong>Something tells me, this is not the last we hear of this affair. On a lighter note, I have some questions I want to ask every guest here on the podcast. One is, who is your favorite opponent to face in the ring?</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/o4fPJU5.jpg</span> <p>

</p></div><p></p><p><strong>Kass:</strong> This might seem odd, but I would have to say Houston Handley. Granted, she got injured last time we met and she hasn't wrestled since, and I don't even know if she's still under contract with QAW. I know she's been struggling to get any traction, but let this be a word of support then for re-signing. We have had good matches during my first time with QAW.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Wow, that was not the answer I expected. Alright, favorite match then? Singles or tag team.</p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>

<span>http://i.imgur.com/9pIGoQA.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/vrW0gLX.jpg</span> <span>http://i.imgur.com/DFjGyTB.jpg</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> I think you're fishing for that match recently against Pamela Rojo. It was a good match, Rojo stood up well. Not well enough, but she impressed me. My best match though... I believe our third title defense, against Foxxy LaRue and Lauren Easter is what I'm putting in my CV the day I leave this company. It was dope. It's a shame I never got to wrestle Lauren in singles before she left the company.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> That was the only match where you faced each other, right? </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> Yeah. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> And you didn't have time to wrestle Melody either, right?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> Not in QAW. She high tailed it to Canada when she heard I was coming. I had several matches against her in USPW though. Totally had her number.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Dream matches. Is there anyone in QAW you haven't wrestled yet you look forward to face? </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> Honestly? One day I would like to see for myself what Capitano is made of. In the meantime if Higa can calm her nerves it would be satisfying to beat her up eye to eye instead of from behind.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy: </strong>We're halfway through the Contender's Crown tournament. In the past you have had most success with Capitano in your tag team the Dogs of War, reigning champions and all...</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> 100 days, give or take. Seven successful title defenses. When challengers step into the ring with the Dogs of War they step on to a battlefield where you have to be hardened to even survive. Nerves are tested. And the challengers; They. All. Fail.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy: </strong>Right. It really is hard to see an end to your title reign. And now you are top of the standings in the Contender's Crown group B, undefeated after four matches.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> That's not a question.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy: </strong>More an observation how strong your start of the tournament has been. Given how physically dominant you are, do you even have weaknesses?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> If I did, it would be a bad idea to reveal them here on radio, don't you think? But let me put it this way: When you go into battle and establish dominance over another warrior it is not rare to experience an adrenaline rush that some may describe as bloodlust. I find that it is easy to get lost in the moment and lose sight of my objectives. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Is this where you expected to be when you went into the tournament? </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> I never doubt my capacity for violence. More difficult matches remain, but this tournament is about a piece of silverware that will make official what everyone already knows. That Killer Kass will be the one to break that little twig we call World Champion. All these charades are just to drag out the inevitable. I WILL wear the Contender's Crown, and I WILL wear the World Championship belt. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> No hesitation there. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass: </strong>If I'm surprised of anything it's how my rivals have stumbled on the way. They might be weaker even than I thought.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy: </strong>Who specifically are you talking about? </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> Does it matter? Is anyone in my group undefeated?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy: </strong>Only you.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> My point exactly.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Well, with that confident observation, I think it is time to wrap up this interview. You can see Kass tomorrow go up against Foxxy LaRue in what has every chance of being a barnburner of a match. Thank you Kass for taking the time to talk to us.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Kass:</strong> No problem. My invoice is in the mail. Kass out.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Billy:</strong> Wait, what? Invoice?</p><p> </p><p>

<hr></p><p>

<em>OOC: Thanks to kingjames who picked Killer Kass for the second wrestler highlight. I wanted to make it clear that Kass is not a savage even if she's violent, but rather a sharp, articulate business woman. I think there's a bit Samoa Joe in there too. The deliberate speech pattern, the idea that you don't have to be dumb to be a monster heel.</em></p>

That's a really good piece. I've found your diary a bit tough to get up to speed with because there's so many people I know nothing about and it's a fair sized roster (I would imagine the same difficulty faces people reading mine) so these really help to get your talent over with me. Great job.

<p>Thank you, glad you liked it. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

I completely understand the problem. Maybe I should make it the standard prize for the prediction contest to pick a wrestler for their own highlight every week and churn out a few more. I think unless you run a real world mod, it is a common problem that the reader have little to attach to the name and picture.</p>

I really liked what you did with Kass! I am super happy that you took my suggestion. I love the depiction of Kass not as a mindless brute - with all the unfortunate implications that comes with that - but as a cold and calculating mercenary interested in one thing, her bank account. It reminds me of Brock Lesnar's characterization (and, possibly, Brock Lesnar as a human being). I can see Samoa Joe in there too, since they're similar archetypes - brutal, uncaring people who enjoy their ability to physically push other people around, who believe their might means they make the rules. It's one thing when people do evil because they truly believe that what they're doing is the <em>good</em> thing; it's wholly different when they don't care what's right or wrong, only what's best for them and anyone who gets screwed along the way is no concern to them. That lack of virtue beyond self-interest makes for a nasty character, all the more dangerous. I hope Kass gets plenty of opportunities to show just how awful she can really be - and I look forward to someone finally toppling her!

<div><b>Dark Match: Thea Davis vs Claire Winters /w Talia Quinzel and Selina Svelte</b></div><div>Once the bell rings, Thea and Claire immediately get engaged in a high paced match chaining move after move together culminating in big hits showing that it is two seriously strong women fighting it out, without lacking in quickness or skill. For a while it looks like wide open, big finisher followed by pin attempt, Thea failing to pin Claire, then Claire failing to pin Thea, back and forth until the referee fails to notice how Claire uses the ropes to pin down Thea, and counts to three. Thea is obviously upset, but Claire quickly gets out of the ring to Talia and Selina to celebrate. </div><div><b>Claire Winters win by pinfall in 9:58</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C-</b></div><div><br/></div><div>http://i.imgur.com/xYuulxj.jpg  vs http://i.imgur.com/UQQevgf.jpg </div><div><b>Match 1: Higa vs Brooke Tyler</b></div><div>When the two enters the ring and immediately start posturing and staring each other down, there is a certain big match vibe in the air. When the bell rings Brooke comes out swinging, while Higa patiently dances around the ring, observing her opponent looking for an opening. When she sees one, Higa strikes like lightning, using the kinetic force of Brooke's big swing against her with an aikido-like throw, signalling Higa's shift from passive stance to aggressive. Brooke has barely hit the mat before Higa is over her, showing off strength by lifting Brooke into a fireman's carry turned into a backbreaker. </div><div><br/></div><div>Finding herself on the defensive, Brooke rolls out of the ring to create some breathing room, but Higa won't let her, taking a suicide dive for the crossbody, once more knocking Brooke to the floor. Immediately getting to her feet, Higa screams out her adrenaline, urging the fans to get behind her. </div><div><br/></div><div>Higa isn't taking a lot of time playing to the crowd, but it is enough for Brooke to get back on her feet, and when Higa turn back around, she's met by a stiff kick to the solar plexus stunning the Japanese star, long enough for Brooke to bomb her straight into the arena floor. Satisfied that Higa is not going to provide more resistance, Brooke gets a good grip of silk black hair, forcing Higa to her feet, waving away nearby seated fans before she sends Higa crashing into the just vacated chairs.</div><div><br/></div><div>Not letting up, Brooke again grabs her foe by the hair leading her toward the next instrument of pain, one of the bare corner posts. All the while, she seeks eye contact with the fans expressing their disgust at the violent display. Higa's head meets ring post with a clang, and Brooke find herself holding on to a pretty much lifeless Higa. She shrugs her shoulders, roll Higa into the ring and covers her for the count...</div><div><br/></div><div>...but Higa kicks out on 2!</div><div><br/></div><div>Emoting her disbelief, Brooke first can't believe Higa kicked out, and then she can't believe it wasn't a three count, which she goes on a tirade against referee Erin Lawrence about. Meanwhile, Higa is only barely stirring, but she's still prone when Brooke return her attention to her. Getting Higa back to her feet, Brooke prepares a big finisher, sticking Higa's head under her arm when Higa comes alive, in one fluid motion wrapping an arm around Brooke's neck, and with upper body strength sending herself upward in a move that people afterward would argue was a never before done variation on a Tornado DDT. It definitely catches Brooke unprepared, and she's sent face planting with a hard thud.</div><div><br/></div><div>Not waiting to see if that's enough, Higa gets Brooke back on her feet, give a trademark hand sign indicating an imminent crash landing for Brooke before delivering her Higa Green Driver. This time she covers Brooke for the pin and raises another finger in the air for each count referee Erin Lawrence makes, ending the match with three fingers in the air. </div><div><b>Higa wins by pinfall in 15:57</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C+</b></div><div><br/></div><div>http://i.imgur.com/vrW0gLX.jpg  vs http://i.imgur.com/SrJMR1G.jpg </div><div>Match over, we cut to a music video to a montage of highlight moves by the two combatants in tonights upcoming main event, Foxxy LaRue and Killer Kass, emphasising Foxxy's athleticism as well as her past title reigns while the violent menacing side of Killer Kass is driven home.</div><div><b>Segment Rating: D</b></div><div><br/></div><div>http://i.imgur.com/TsoCedO.jpg  vs http://i.imgur.com/UsrKpsP.jpg </div><div><b>Match 2: Juana Huracán vs Maria Guest</b></div><div>When the hype video ends, Juana Huracán and Maria Guest have both entered the ring, Huracán in her usual MMA-gear while Guest is in a blue one-piece wrestling leotard with the American Sweethearts logo emblazoned on the back. When Chitose walks out, the large screen above her entrance show an animated camera sweep through a sequence of red torii gates while the name "Kitsune Warriors" rolls across the large screen mounted above the entrance. Eventually, Maribel throws Etsuko out of the ring and follows her to continue the beatdown. With just Paige Croft and Chitose Ariwara left in the ring, referee Dale Kenney feel he can start the match. Outside the ring, Maribel proceeds to throw Etsuko into barriers, hit her with clotheslines and power bombs. Meanwhile Chitose has managed to create some space between herself and Paige. She's still ragged from how the match started, but with stiff kicks and good mobility she manages to keep the match reasonably open, even if it feels like Paige is toying a bit with her opponent. No attack from the world champion is absolutely devastating, but every one seems to hurt.</div><div><br/></div><div>Eventually, Maribel gets bored of beating up Etsuko and leaves her crumpled up off by the barricades. Instead she returns to ringside. Right when it looks like Paige has gotten Chitose to the end of the line, by countering one of Chitoses many drop kicks into a power bomb and Paige looks ready to either pin her or lock in one of her patented submission holds, Maribel taps in. Paige looks pissed, but Maribel just points to Etsuko. "I've got this. You go break that bitch." Paige steps out of the ring reluctantly and moves off to torment Etsuko.</div><div><br/></div><div>Maribel proceeds to scoop slam Chitose, side slam her, give her a german suplex and stands above her considering her next move as she looks over to Paige who is busy bending Etsuko's arm in some unnatural way. Returning her focus to Chitose, she decides to go for the elbow drop, but seemingly putting everything on one card, Chitose bounce up, grab Maribel's arm and roll over trying to lock in the Fujiwara armbar. There's a moment when it looks like Maribel is going to be able to block the attempt, but a second effort of strength from Chitose puts Maribel face down with nowhere to go. As she's fallen, she can't see her tag team partner who is slow to notice that Maribel is in trouble. Referee Dale Kenney looks like he doesn't know what to do, then, with loud voice says "Uh, do you surrender Maribel?!" That gets Paige's attention, and she gets up from tearing the arm of Etsuko to break up Chitose's subbmission hold, but Etsuko uses the last bits of energy she has to attach herself to Paige's leg. Paige tries to kick loose, and she gets away from Etsuko, slides into the ring, but before she manages to get to Chitose, Maribel has tapped, and Dale has called for the bell. </div><div><b>Chitose Ariwara win by submission in 19:26</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: B-</b></div><div><br/></div><div>http://i.imgur.com/Heo5HkZ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/aI0ZR2b.jpg http://i.imgur.com/0Hskf5g.jpg http://i.imgur.com/koWhAJc.jpg </div><div>While Chitose celebrates in the ring, Etsuko is pretty much out of it after the abuse Paige Croft put her through toward the end of the match. Chitose fails to notice the dark expression on Crofts face as the world champion has slid into the ring behind her and flattens the Japanese wrestler with a flying knee to the back of the head. She decides to climb to the top turn buckle, teasing a dive to the outside, but Viper moves away, around the ring and enters it again from the other side. With Higgins perched high, Viper teases the crowd, testing how close she can move toward the center of the ring before Christy looks like she's ready to jump at her, but as soon as a even a muscle twitches in Christy's leg, Viper backs off. They keep at this game to rising booing until Christy grows tired of Viper's games and jumps down, at which point Purple Viper strikes, rushing in, body tackling Higgins into the turnbuckle, quickly making distance and proceeds to unload on Higgins with dropkicks, uppercuts and elbows. Eventually, Christy manages to stop the assault with a well placed kick to the gut and follows it up with a suplex into the turn buckle she'd just been trapped in. </div><div><br/></div><div>Not really recovered enough to capitalize on her come back, Christy instead take a moment to breathe as Purple Viper gets back to her feet. For the next couple of minutes they go back and forth with high flying attacks, good looking chained combinations where it is hard to say that either part is gaining ground, until Purple Viper climbs to the top rope and goes for a springboard bulldog only to have it countered into a crunching slam into the mat. Christy tries to pin Viper who tries to get away, Christy tries a submission hold, Viper gets close to the ropes, Christy tries to prevent her from grabbing hold, all wrapped up in each other, the two roll under the ropes and fall to the floor. Quick to realize that the referee can't see them, Purple Viper unleashes her asian mist in Christy's face. With a blinded opponent, the rest is a formality. With her prey already knocked around, Jarvis give Laura no chance to recover, putting the hurt to the Bad Girls Club junior. Jarvis slams Laura into the mat, tries the pin, Laura kicks out, repeat, with a variety of finishers preceding the pin attempts. For every attempt, Jillian looks more and more frustrated that Laura won't stay down. Finally she gives up on trying to pin Laura, instead locking in her Lockdown Choke Sleeper. Jarvis throws a flying knee at Kass, which *does* seem to hurt, but that in turn leave Jarvis open for an enzuigiri from Capitano, dropping her to the mat. While the rest of Ronin 3 start to retreat, Charity Sweet has gotten back to her feet and sees Killer Kass prone. Seeing Kass disoriented, Foxxy tries to lock in a submission hold, but can't get the complete lock which allows Kass to just stand up with Foxxy clinging to her back. Kass moves to slam Foxxy into the turnbuckle, but Foxxy drops out of the way in time, leading Kass to knock the air out of herself. Foxxy is quick to line up in the opposite ring corner for the big attack, but as Foxxy rush in Kass show surprising quickness and spears Foxxy. As she goes to lift up Foxxy for the powerbomb her knee buckles again and Foxxy is allowed to slip out of her grip. A dropkick sends Kass reeling, bouncing off the ropes, but as she goes for a lariat again she hobbles on her bad knee, right into a Flash Head Kick, and that's the 1, 2, 3.</div><div><b>Foxxy LaRue wins by pinfall in 9:01</b></div><div><b>Match Rating: C</b></div><div><br/></div><div>http://i.imgur.com/vrW0gLX.jpg </div><div>Having had her hand raised by referee Erin Lawrence, Foxxy climbs up the top turnbuckle and just looks out at the crowd, perhaps wondering what reaction her victory will get. In Group B, things are heating up, with five wrestlers within two points: Killer Kass and Foxxy LaRue on 8 points, Jillian Jarvis, Purple Viper and Teresa Perez on 6 points each with just two rounds to go. In case of a tie, wins against tied opponents is the first tie breaker. There is a second tie breaker, but it won't be needed, I think I can promise. </div><div><br/></div><table style="border-collapse: collapse; margin-left: 0px; table-layout: fixed;width:100%;"><tr><td Prediction Contest

Best match of the night: Match 3, Ariwara & Arihyoshi vs Princesses of Pain (B-, 75)

MrWolf101: 5/9

kingjames: 4/9 (but dang if it had gone to tiebreaker, nailed the event rating exactly!)

Getting the main event right made the difference. Clearly a difficult round. I blame the tournament format for some results seeming a bit random (or at least very difficult to understand from the outside). I swear, the Princesses of Pain loss was not a reaction to the comment on the last show about named tag teams always winning over unnamed ones! :D

Totals: MrWolf101 (6), DarEatWorld (1), John_Lions (1), kingjames (1). With that, MrWolf101 has won the Contenders Crown prediction contest with three (plus a bonus event) to go. And like I mentioned off-hand in a post earlier this week, the prize to select a wrestler to be interviewed in a Wrestling Gazetteer podcast. MrWolf101, can you DM me who you'd like interviewed? Any announced member of the roster except the two already featured - Charity Sweet or Killer Kass.

If someone advances to sole second place, I will add a second prize. As a reminder, the named prize so far is to name and/or define a new title based on a handful of already existing QAW belts currently not in use.

Card for Contender Series VI

The Friedman Building, TX (Mid South), Friday week 3, 2018

Dark Match: Charity Sweet vs Etsuko Arihyoshi

Match 1: The New Wave (Lee & Guest) vs Anderson & Snyder

Two teams looking to regain momentum.

Match 2: Christy Higgins vs Pamela Rojo

Will Pamela Rojo destroy Christy the same way she destroyed Teresa Perez?

Match 3: Foxxy LaRue vs Purple Viper

Purple Viper need a win to mathematically stay in the race, and Foxxy can't really afford to lose either.

Match 4: Chitose Ariwara vs Capitano

Two former Shockwave champions face each other for the very first time

Match 5: Paige Croft vs Maribel Mercado

Master versus student, tag team partners facing each other.

Match 6: The Uprising (Quinzel & Svelte) vs Juana Huracán & Higa

The Uprising resurfaces. Higa looks for a tag team partner she can work with.

Match 7: Teresa Perez vs Laura Flame

Will Teresa rebound after last event's loss? Will Laura's scouting pay off?

Main Event: Jillian Jarvis vs Killer Kass

Ronin 3 vs Bad Girls Club. Whoever loses can pretty much forget the trophy this year.

Bonus Questions

- Two matches tie for best match of the night. Name them. Each correct answer score 1 point.

- One wrestler suffers a non-kayfabe injury but still works through her injury to finish (and win) her match. Who?

The usual tie breaker: What's the overall event rating? Last show in the mid South region scored a 77.

Prize: Name a wrestler to be highlighted in a Wrestling Gazetteer Podcast episode.

Daaaaaaaaang, close one! Still, I'm 1-for-2 in these prediction contests. Let's see if I can win under traditional lucha 2-out-of-3 falls rules (also, you should totally do a traditional lucha best 2-out-of-3 falls match stipulation at some point, if you're taking suggestions!)

Dark Match: Charity Sweet vs Etsuko Arihyoshi

Etsuko's team got the win last time, but I think she's back to jobbing without Ariwara.

Match 1: The New Wave (Lee & Guest) vs Anderson & Snyder

Cool team name takes the win here. Seriously, awesome name for a tag team.

Match 2: Christy Higgins vs Pamela Rojo

Yes, Pamela will destroy poor Christy.

Match 3: Foxxy LaRue vs Purple Viper

I always thought Rikki-Tikki-Tavi was a mongoose, but my guess is that it's going to be a Fox that kills the snake in this story.

Match 4: Chitose Ariwara vs Capitano

On one hand, why give Chitose a big splash in her first match just to job in her second? On the other hand, it's a great way to set up a future feud. Capitano gets a less-than-clean win.

Match 5: Paige Croft vs Maribel Mercado

I know your universe's Paige Croft isn't my universe's Paige Croft, but I can't bring myself to guess Not Paige Croft. Though maybe the Tiny Terminator hops between our respective universes...

Match 6: The Uprising (Quinzel & Svelte) vs Juana Huracán & Higa

HIGA'S GETTING OVER AND THAT'S FINAL, BECAUSE I'M VINCE MCMAHON, DAMMIT!

Match 7: Teresa Perez vs Laura Flame

Perez is about to get kicked in the head.

Main Event: Jillian Jarvis vs Killer Kass

99% sure Kass kould (sorry about the spelling, force of habit with Kass) take on Ronin 3 all by herself and stand a fighting chance.

Bonus Questions

- Two matches tie for best match of the night. Name them. Each correct answer score 1 point.

Jarvis vs. Kass; Foxxy vs. Purple Viper

- One wrestler suffers a non-kayfabe injury but still works through her injury to finish (and win) her match. Who?

Pamela Rojo. Why? No idea. But she's my pick.

The usual tie breaker: What's the overall event rating? Last show in the mid South region scored a 77

I think the card's going to score a smidge under - 75 is my guess.

Ah, most of those matches for the last event were pretty 50/50, so it makes sense we both ended up around 50% right.

Dark Match: Charity Sweet vs Etsuko Arihyoshi

Have to think Charity is in for bigger things that Etsuko.

Match 1: The New Wave (Lee & Guest) vs Anderson & Snyder

I'm trying to remember the last time Alexis won a match, so I think her and Maria can use this more.

Match 2: Christy Higgins vs Pamela Rojo

I'll go for a bit of an upset.

Match 3: Foxxy LaRue vs Purple Viper

Foxxy too big of a star to lose this one, right? :)

Match 4: Chitose Ariwara vs Capitano

Something tells me that Ariwara will benefit from some interference.

Match 5: Paige Croft vs Maribel Mercado

Champ stays strong.

Match 6: The Uprising (Quinzel & Svelte) vs Juana Huracán & Higa

Hurácan takes the loss, and maybe takes her frustrations out on Higa afterwards?

Match 7: Teresa Perez vs Laura Flame

Will Teresa rebound after last event's loss? I say yes! yes! yes!

Main Event: Jillian Jarvis vs Killer Kass

Hmmm, if Foxxy wins, Jarvis has to win to set up their match being for all the marbles. But at the same time, Kass would gain so much from this win that it's hard for me to pick against her.

Bonus Questions

- Two matches tie for best match of the night. Name them. Kass vs Jarvis and LaRue vs Viper Main event should be a barn-burner, while Foxxy just brings it.

- One wrestler suffers a non-kayfabe injury but still works through her injury to finish (and win) her match. Who? Uh-oh. Hopefully not too serious. I'll go with Higgins.

The usual tie breaker: What's the overall event rating? Hmmm, could this show pull an 80? A strong card up and down, so I'll go with 80!

Guh. I have gotten such nice feedback and shout outs lately I told myself I would pay it back, and then I went and posted the update and completely forgot about it. Dunce hat on.

Dark Phoenix Wrestling: A Woman Scorned by MrWolf101 was the primary inspiration that I started this diary. In this forum, I consider it mandatory reading.

AAA: The Revolution is Now by kingjames has such an original style it really made me think about what I was doing in regards to style. I still don't have much "style", but at least now I'm thinking about it.

ARCHANGEL Wrestling Association: A Fish Out Of Water Story by sincerenoble gave me new perspective on many of the workers I have in my own company which was really refreshing. It also was the point where it started to feel like "hey, C-verse women's wrestling promotions is starting to feel like a little club now". Big shout out.

And finally DarEatWorld's SNP: The Thistle in the Ashes which is different in that it isn't a women's wrestling promotion, but DarEatWorld has consistently been so nice to mention my dynasty, and I drew a lot of inspiration from his writing in how I present my company.

Not a bad idea. It would be very theme appropriate. :)

- One wrestler suffers a non-kayfabe injury but still works through her injury to finish (and win) her match. Who? Uh-oh. Hopefully not too serious. I'll go with Higgins.

An injury doesn't have to be severe to mess up your booking plans when there's two days between events...
