<p>WCW World Heavyweight Championship – Triple Threat Match</p><p>

<strong>“Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner w/Midajah</strong> vs. Sid Vicious vs. ????</p><p>

Extra Point: Who is Ric Flair’s Mystery Man? <strong>First thought is Sting or Booker T, though it depends on the length of Sting's leave and Booker's injury whether they're available. I'll go with Sting.</strong></p><p>

Comments: I, too, think that Double J will get involved somehow and cost Sting the title, allowing Steiner to retain by beating Sid and maybe setting up Steiner vs. Sting for down the road.</p><p> </p><p>

Goldberg’s Streak vs. Goldberg’s Career</p><p>

Totally Buff vs. <strong>Goldberg & Road Warrior Animal</strong></p><p>

Comments: Goldberg is still a major player at this point, no reason to lose him.</p><p> </p><p>

WCW World Tag Team Championship Match</p><p>

<strong>The Insiders</strong> vs. Two of the Natural Born Thrillers</p><p>

Extra Point: Which Two Thrillers? <strong>Jindrak and Stasiak</strong></p><p>

Comments: I don't think The Insiders should lose the titles yet. The Thrillers could very well be the ones to beat them, but I think they need a little more experience and a little more buildup. Also, I don't know if Nash has creative control, but even if he doesn't, he's not gonna be too happy losing this one.</p><p> </p><p>

WCW United States Heavyweight Championship – Chain on a Pole Match</p><p>

General Rection vs. <strong>“The Franchise” Shane Douglas</strong></p><p>

Comments: Hugh Morrus is a solid hand, but Douglas would be a good US Champion at this stage, I think.</p><p> </p><p>

Six-Man Tag Team Match</p><p>

The Filthy Animals w/Tygress and Jim Duggan vs. <strong>Team Canada w/Major Gunns</strong></p><p>

Comments:Tough one to call, but I'll go with a cheap victory for Team Canada.</p><p> </p><p>

WCW Cruiserweight Championship Match</p><p>

<strong>Chavo Guerrero Jr.</strong> vs. “Sugar” Shane Helms</p><p>

Comments: Wouldn't it be cool if Chavo had a year long reign as Cruiserweight Champion?</p><p> </p><p>

WCW Hardcore Championship Invitational Match</p><p>

Confirmed: Terry Funk, Crowbar, and Meng, with twelve other unknown participants!</p><p>

Not enough people confirmed to count this one for a full point, so there are two extra points for this match. So: Name three other participants, who could be from inside or outside of WCW, may or may not have had a match already at Sin, who will participate in this match: <strong>Norman Smiley, The Sandman/Hardcore Hak and Johnny The Bull </strong></p><p>

Two Extra Points: Who holds the title at the end of the match? <strong>Terry Funk retains, only to lose it down the road in a one on one match</strong></p><p>

Team Canada vs. The Filthy Animals

Announced Time Limit: 30:00

Official: Scott James

Ringside: Major Gunns (Team Canada), Tygress and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan (Filthy Animals)

The crowd are given hot action immediately as this six man tag team match leads off Sin. Storm and Kidman start the match, and they begin a quick tempo that doesn’t halt until about five minutes into the match when Mike Awesome finally is tagged in. Awesome promptly decimates both Kidman and Mysterio with a double clothesline, and even throws Konnan around as if he were a cruiserweight! Tygress and Duggan cheer on the Animals as Kidman is worked over by Team Canada in their corner, riling the crowd up with “USA” chants to annoy the Great Northern heels. Skipper makes the mistake of trying to powerbomb Kidman, but of course it doesn’t work, leading to a face crusher that leaves both men on the mat. Billy makes the tag out to Mysterio while Elix tags Awesome, but Rey is able to hit a springboard dropkick that knocks Awesome away! Storm attacks as well, but Mysterio delivers a spinning headscissor takedown that sends him away. Konnan and Kidman get back into the mix as well, with Kidman making a Shooting Star Press to Konnan, Storm, and Skipper from the top rope to the floor! Mysterio is a house of fire all over Awesome, but “The Canadian Career Killer” dodges a charge by shoving Rey into the turnbuckles, dazing him. Awesome then drags Rey onto his shoulders and drills him with the Awesome Bomb in order to score the victory for the Canadians.

Team Canada don’t seem finished just yet, as they start attacking the Animals all over again. Finally, Jim Duggan makes a stand, charging in with his trusted 2x4! He hits Skipper with it, hits Storm with it… but Awesome grabs it! Mike rips the board from Duggan’s hands and throws it aside, slamming a knee into Duggan’s stomach. He throws Duggan out of the ring through the ropes, where the other two Canadians continue this attack. While Duggan is occupied trying to fight off Storm and Skipper, Awesome takes time to pull out a table! The crowd buzz as they wait to see what will happen… but that buzz turns to boos as Awesome and Team Canada set up Duggan and deliver an Awesome Bomb to Jim Duggan through the table! Paramedics rush out to help Duggan as WCW Security usher Team Canada away.

Eric’s Thoughts: A hot opener with big action is where it’s at. We told these guys to lift the crowd and they did it, really getting the show off to a hot start. Elix struggled to keep up with the more experienced people in the match. Elix and Tylene aren’t really suited to their current gimmicks, so I’m going to retool them a little bit. The attack on Jim is basically a way to ride him into the sunset. He has a long contract ahead of him, but I really have no use for him; I’m going to let him head to Wildside and just leave him to help the kids there. Because let’s face it; this is a time for young guys to go over, and ever since what happened with Berlyn, I don’t trust Jim as someone to put over young stars.

Backstage in the interview area, “Mean” Gene Okerlund is with “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair! Flair talks about how great WCW is because they can put on a world class pay-per-view like Sin tonight! Gene asks Ric about the main event tonight, with Flair saying that he cannot wait for Scott to find out who his mystery man is, because it’s someone who has wanted to take Steiner back down to Earth for a long time now. Flair refuses to go any more in-depth with that, simply telling Scott that Flair really hopes he’s going to be able to stand up to the odds, because if he can then one day he’ll maybe be remembered as a great champion.

http://i.imgur.com/J0zzIdm.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/nOfygHf.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/bmOMZT7.jpg

We then head to the commentary desk, where Tony, Mike, and Scott – after condemning Awesome for his actions to a legend like “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan – talk about how WCW are going to have all their titles on the line tonight, from the Cruiserweight title bout between Shane Helms and Chavo Guerrero Jr. to the big Hardcore Invitational, all the way up to the World Tag Team titles and the big one: the triple threat for the World’s Heavyweight championship! Tony notes that for those in the Fort Wayne area, Monday Nitro tomorrow night had been moved five minutes down the road from the advertised Allen County War Memorial to the Hilliard Gates arena. He said that WCW apologizes for the inconvenience and flashes up a number for anyone who wants a refund, but that all tickets sold were viable at the door.

Ratings: B / C-

Eric’s Thoughts: Flair and Gene improvised really well off one another, but Scott Hudson’s commentary during the interview was pretty weak. We almost need to find an actual, dedicated color commentator, because right now it’s a three-man team of straight man announcers. Gene didn’t come off well compared to Flair’s antics, either, showing that perhaps a younger interviewer would do us well in the future too. The announcers talking was just a way to cool the crowd down a little between big segments. Scott just looked lost though, and Tony underperformed.

We head back to Gene again, where now he is standing by with Totally Buff. Lex and Buff run all over Gene in this, not letting him hardly get a word in edgewise as they talk about how and why they are going to take down Goldberg and Animal tonight. Gene finally cuts them off, saying that he thinks they are just scared of these two men! “The Total Package” tells Okerlund that they don’t have anything to fear, because they can handle those two “musclebrains”. Bagwell asks if they can show off their surprise, and Lex agrees. Buff says that if someone like Sarge decided to try coming in and saving Goldberg’s career, they have a surprise in their corner…

It’s Madusa! She says to a surprised Gene that she is watching Totally Buff’s back now, and that’s going to keep any of Goldberg or Animal’s friends from ruining tonight, the night that Goldberg’s career ends!

Rating: C+

Eric’s Thoughts: Lex and Marcus are definitely two ripped, buff looking guys… I’m not gonna lie, adding Madusa to the mix is being done to make it a little less homoerotic. It also gives her something to do weekly on television, which is something she’s wanted for a while. She performed pretty poorly though because I think most fans probably forgot about her. Gene just looked dreadful, not being able to hardly talk.

WCW United States Heavyweight Championship – Chain on a Pole Match

General Hugh G. Rection vs. “The Franchise” Shane Douglas

Announced Time Limit: 45:00

Official: Nick Patrick

Ringside: No One

The pole was set up during the previous interview segment, with the chain hanging from it. This is a burly brawl, far removed from our opening contest as the two of them throw wild punches back and forth. Douglas is almost able to retrieve the chain, but the champion fights back with a belly to back suplex from the second turnbuckle! From there, Hugh is able to climb up and grab the chain, nailing Douglas with it and making the cover to retain the championship!

Corporal Cajun rushes down to the ring after the match and grabs the title, presenting it to General Rection along with a big hug for his friend. This is looking like a really nice, feel-good moment for the Misfits in Action, until…

**SMASH!!**

http://i.imgur.com/jpiA2IS.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/7f8ztT6.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/u2xvS59.jpg

“The Chosen One” has laid out Rection with a guitar smash! Rection threw Cajun out of the way to take the attack, and he drops to the mat like a felled tree. The Harris Brothers decimate Cajun, forcing him to the ropes and dropping him with the H-Bomb to lay him out right next to Hugh. Hudson asks what this attack is all about, but the answer is given when Jarrett picks up the United States title and poses with it on the turnbuckles. He drops it around Hugh’s waist before stomping on him, as the three leave the MIA laying in the ring.

Match Time: 6:44

Ratings: C / C-

Eric’s Thoughts: A lot of people felt this was Shane’s time to grab the US belt, and I had originally thought so as well. However, I think that Bill holding the belt and going on to face Jarrett will be a much better use of the US title at this point. We told Shane and Hugh to calm things down out there, and cooled the crowd down really well with their match, with Tony and Mike doing a good job lifting the match from the booth.

“Mean” Gene is standing by with the intimidating figure of Sid Vicious, with Gene asking Sid for his thoughts ahead of tonight’s big triple threat match. Sid says that tonight we finish the game that we started at Starrcade.

“Scott Steiner! Mystery man! I don’t care who you are or what you bring! Because tonight, you step into war with the master and ruler of the world! Just remember… Gene… we are one or two powerbombs away… from a brand new World’s Heavyweight champion.”

Rating: C+

Eric’s Thoughts: A nice promo, Sid kept it sane.

WCW Hardcore Championship – Hardcore Invitational

Announced Time Limit: 20:00

Official: Billy Silverman

Ringside: Daffney (Crowbar), Paisley (Meng and Kwee Wee)

We started in the ring with Terry Funk, Crowbar, and Meng, the three men who were confirmed for the bout. They brawl for a few minutes with Meng coming out on top, but that’s when people begin coming out of the woodwork. Fit Finlay comes out of the back with a steel chair and introduces himself into the match by smashing it on Crowbar’s face, Kwee Wee comes out, looking angry that Daffney screamed at Paisley and begins helping his “partner” Meng. Big Ron and Heavy D find their way into the battle, but they get hit with a flying crossbody by Evan Karagias. Johnny the Bull steps in to try and reclaim the Hardcore title, but finds himself embroiled in his own feud when he sees Shawn Stasiak join the fray. Karagias is the first man eliminated from the bout when Meng locks the Tongan Deathgrip on him, paralyzing him into a pinfall. Bam Bam Bigelow hits the area, and he goes right after Meng in a battle of two big bruisers. Crowbar throws punches at Funk, wanting to take the man he calls his icon out in order to cement a new champion tonight. Kwee Wee and Meng started working together to fight off The Harris Brothers. Kwee Wee ducks under their punches, crawling between them on his hands and knees, but their momentum forces them right into double Tongan Deathgrips, and Meng puts both of them out of the match!

<iframe width="50" height="50" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bM6hFZVOZbg?rel=0&showinfo=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Hey, it’s the Insane Clown Posse! Any viewing Juggalos rejoice as Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J return to WCW with chains and a lead pipe, swinging them at anyone who gets too close! They end up double pinning Finlay after crashing him to the mat with a spike piledriver, as Norman Smiley enters the match by hitting everyone in the fray with a flimsy looking “WCW VIP Area” tin sign. Norman poses after he hits everyone, bringing the crowd to their feet with the Big Wiggle! However, he turns around to find that everyone is back to their feet, and with a scream he runs away! He doesn’t make it far, as Bigelow catches him and uses a headbutt to knock him to the mat and then falls on him with another headbutt in order to pin him. Terry Funk continues to fight on as he takes on Meng face to face, man to man. Crowbar goes after Bigelow, but “Bammer” fights back, chokeslamming him from the top turnbuckle through a table on the floor! Johnny the Bull is next to be eliminated as Stasiak throws him against the steel ring post, dazing him in order to get a pinfall with an inverted DDT. Terry Funk soon after dodges Stasiak charging him, causing him to run into the barricade, leading to a piledriver from “The Funker” and Shawn’s time in this match being over by a pinfall. Bam Bam takes care of both of the ICP when he double clotheslines them both, slamming Shaggy on top of J before splashing them both for the pin. Kwee Wee thinks he is safe next to Meng, but Meng nabs him with the Tongan Deathgrip! Kwee Wee is eliminated by the man he had been seen teaming with lately! Funk fights with Bigelow, with Bam Bam nearly scoring a pin with a hard chair shot to Funk’s back, but Crowbar resurfaces with a broken part of table, and working together with Funk they defeat Bigelow with a double cover! We are back to the three men who started this match, and weapons quickly become the plan, as the three men throw everything at one another – including Funk hitting Meng over the head with a kitchen sink – with Meng finally falling to a Funk moonsault! Funk and Crowbar remain, with the two picking up right where they had left off at Starrcade when Terry had won the Hardcore title. Crowbar finally looks like he has the match, as Funk is left lying as he was bashed with a steel crowbar. He looked pretty upset about doing it, but he said he’s going to rip the hardcore torch away from Funk, and he’s about to do so… but Crowbar gets taken down by a fist-wrapped chain, and Shane Douglas nails Crowbar with the Franchiser to pin him! Douglas uses the chain to punch Funk repeatedly in the face, before covering him – and he gets the three! The match is over, and shockingly it is “The Franchise” who stands tall!

Shane takes a microphone and leaves the ring, leaving Crowbar to tend to Funk in the ring. Douglas laughs at Funk and Crowbar, especially at Crowbar.

“You honestly thought you could take the torch of hardcore from that decrepit pile of bones and crap in the ring? He hasn’t had that torch since 1994 when I ripped it from his mantle! Funk used to be a hell of an athlete, but this ain’t 1989 anymore; he didn’t make hardcore, I made hardcore cool! And now, “The Franchise” is once again the franchise of hardcore wrestling, and no one is going to take this belt from me because no one can be more hardcore than Shane Douglas!”

Match Time: 11:34

Ratings: D / D+

Eric’s Thoughts: I would call this match a “mess-terpiece”. We told everyone to just unleash mayhem, and that’s what they did, but the overbooking wasn’t what the crowd wanted to see. Crowbar was fine after his little stunt bump, fortunately. The crowd really hated seeing Douglas swoop in at the end of the match, but man did it ever make his heel heat go off the charts for his post-match promo. The chaos of the match really helped out a lot of the guys, but so many of them complained afterwards to me about how they didn’t think they could do their best in a hardcore style match. Ugh. That’s why I generally tell them to just brawl. But now, with this new champion, we may be able to just have a nice wrestling match in the future.

http://i.imgur.com/1D13aft.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/7qAgwif.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/RUQDOnr.jpg

Backstage we go to “Mean” Gene again, who brings in The Insiders. Gene asks for some thoughts on their upcoming match, with Dallas especially saying that he is “all – jacked – up!” about it. Kevin says that what he and Page lack in youth, they make up for in experience, size, and incredible good looks. Okerlund questions if they have any apprehensions about not knowing who they are facing, but Page says not so.

“Look Gene. Big Kev and I have beaten Palumbo and Stasiak. We’ve beaten Jindrak and O’Haire. So it doesn’t matter which two they send out, because in the end, they’ll feel the BANG!”

Rating: C+

Eric’s Thoughts: I can typically count on these guys for a solid promo. In the future, if I move them back up the card to talk about guys who the fans think a more popular, then it should be better.

http://i.imgur.com/QKmYQRu.png

We now head to a hype video, which details the feud around Goldberg’s new streak, leading to Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell doing all they can to be the ones to put Goldberg out of wrestling! They nearly had things in their favor by forcing Goldberg to team with “The Sarge” tonight, but they went overboard and broke Sarge’s arm. That led to Goldberg being allowed to name a new partner, and he named Road Warrior Animal as his partner!

<iframe width="200" height="113" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/M9udAirjw3U?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

http://i.imgur.com/EVSpvhk.jpg

After everyone else has entered the arena, we head backstage. We see security knock on a dressing room door marked “Goldberg”, and out of the room bursts “Da Man”! Goldberg does his full entrance, standing in the fireworks and warming himself up to take on his next challenge!

http://i.imgur.com/SDaEctv.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/UDcdLVe.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/Uk8UtOC.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/EVSpvhk.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/o9HKxZh.jpg

Goldberg’s Streak vs. Goldberg’s Career

Totally Buff vs. Goldberg and Road Warrior Animal

Announced Time Limit: 30:00

Official: Charles Robinson

Ringside: Madusa (Totally Buff)

Goldberg starts the match hot by charging in and attacking both Lex and Buff, sending them out of the ring to conference with Madusa. Animal chases them back into the ring, leading to Luger taking a clothesline and Bagwell getting gorilla press slammed by Goldberg! Both Goldberg and Animal flex and pose for the fans, riling them up with big cheers! Madusa snags Goldberg’s ankle when he goes for the spear to set up Goldberg being beaten on by Lex and Buff for a little, but that doesn’t last long either until Goldberg spears both of them! Animal chases after Madusa on the outside, and she enters the ring when Animal grabs a steel chair… but Animal nails Goldberg with it! Charles Robinson calls for the bell, awarding the match to Goldberg by disqualification.

But it isn’t over, as Animal shoves Robinson out of the ring. Animal hammers Goldberg with the chair a few more times, before picking him up on his shoulders for Buff to deliver a Doomsday Device-style Blockbuster! Madusa puts some weak looking stomps on Goldberg, before they lift him up and Luger locks him into the Torture Rack! The fans boo loudly as “The Total Package” cinches more and more pressure on it, until WCW Security finally get them to release Goldberg. Tony wonders just how long Animal was in Totally Buff’s pocket to set up Goldberg like this!

Match Time: 8:11

Ratings: B / B- / C+ / B

Eric’s Thoughts: Wow the crowd were hot for all of this! I just thank God I can do something about this mess. They actually wanted Goldberg to lay down here and leave for a while. We literally need all the star power we can manage, so he sticks around. This new little “group” should keep things busy for a little bit. Animal turning heel was a complete success, and his new Power and Paint (Brute) gimmick rates as Average. Goldberg really shone during the match and looked to be a real star in the following beating. Despite there not being much selling in the ring, it still brought us a good little bout that heated the crowd up to something almost nuclear. Commentary was weird though, as Mike and Scott showed their good chemistry off one another but at the same time Tony and Mike were talking over one another.

http://i.imgur.com/QKmYQRu.png

http://i.imgur.com/1D13aft.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/i9V0y4Z.jpg

WCW Commissioner Mike Sanders is backstage along with “Mean” Gene, with Okerlund asking Sanders for some words about the World Tag Team title match tonight. Sanders says that the only “bang” we’re going to be hearing is Dallas and Nash’s creaky joints when they take on the Thrillers.

“No Gene, I’m not going to say who will be in the match. That would ruin the surprise! Instead, I’m going to keep everyone on pins and needles. So what if Shawn already went into the Hardcore Invitational? He could wrestle six matches a night if he wants! It doesn’t matter if it’s Jindrak, Stasiak, Palumbo, or O’Haire, because tonight the Insiders are S.O.L. You know what that means!”

As Gene is sending it back to Tony, Mike, and Scott in the arena, Mike says to Ms. Jones to “call me!” an obvious threat toward Ernest Miller.

Rating: C

Eric’s Thoughts: Mike continues to shine in my eyes, he just needs to get over that hump of popularity. Gene looked very underwhelming here though.

WCW Cruiserweight Championship

Chavo Guerrero Jr. vs. “Sugar” Shane Helms

Announced Time Limit: 20:00

Official: Scott James

Ringside: No One

The Cruiserweight championship was up for grabs as Helms cashes in his number one contender’s shot from Starrcade. Shane’s fast paced maneuvers could only boggle Chavo for so long, but once Guerrero caught him, this became a very mat-based match. Chavo is just as known for his high flying as he is his technical wrestling, but he used the latter moreso to confuse and ground Helms. The challenger came back with a flurry, but Chavo wrapped him up and put his feet on the ropes in order to just barely steal a three count out of nowhere! Helms was not pleased as Chavo ran with his title, getting out of there in a hurry.

Match Time: 6:23

Rating: C-

Eric’s Thoughts: As much as I prefer to keep cruiserweights toward the top of the card to warm up the crowd, I used these two to cool them off a little. After that Goldberg match, we just really needed a nice little match to let them breathe. Helms may very well have his day in the near future, but it was not today.

“Mean” Gene has eyes for Midajah as we head to the backstage area, but “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner stops that in a hurry, telling Gene to “hold the microphone ya bald cow and quit botherin’ my number one freak!” Steiner says that tonight he enacts the next phase of his plan to embarrass Ric Flair so that “that jealous, big nosed summabitch” will leave him alone.

“It goes like this, Geeeeene, Ric Flair is a jealous old bastard because he ain’t got the freaks no more and he ain’t never had no peaks! Sid, you’re a pawn in ev’one’s games, so the King of all professional wrestlin’ is about to crown ya! Mystery man! I don’t know who ya are, but if ya get in my way, I’mma suplex ya and lock you in the Steiner Recliner ‘til ya call me big daddy like all the freaks do! Poppapump’ is ya hook up! Holler if ya hear me!”

Rating: B

Eric’s Thoughts: You could hear the live crowd from the next arena over during this one. Gene improvised really well, but Steiner just looked so good, enjoying being free to improvise. Once Scott started in, Gene looked a little lost, I probably could have replaced him with a microphone stand and this would have been a better angle.

Elsewhere backstage, Ric Flair is talking into a dressing room. We don’t see who he is talking to, but he seems to be pumping his mystery man up. He tells him that tonight’s the night, wooo, that we walk, that aisle, wooo!

Rating: B

Eric’s Thoughts: Another nice, quick little segment for the main event.

“Mean” Gene has caught up with Jeff Jarrett and the Harris Brothers, giving them a hard time about their attack earlier tonight on the Misfits in Action. Jarrett tells him to “calm down, geriatric slapnut!” before explaining himself.

“Oh, Ric Flair thought it was soooo clever to screw around with ‘The Chosen One’, but he didn’t think about the consequences. He thought that I would just stand there and take it, but instead, I’m going after another of his cash cows, the US title. I’ve held that belt more times than we need to count, and Hugh Morrus is just dragging it down. So in order to get back at Flair and to bring some credibility back to that belt, I’m just gonna have to take it for myself!”

Jarrett goes back to leaving the building, though as he does we can hear him scolding Ron and Don more about not winning the Hardcore title.

Rating: C

Eric’s Thoughts: Jeff really is a solid hand, but in a World title picture where there’s already a heel champion, he’s a little out of his depth. I know I can’t turn him face, so the next best thing is definitely to send him after Bill and the US belt, a title that Jeff hasn’t worn since early last year. I want to get the US title back to it’s former glory, and good challengers like Shane and Jeff are a great start to that.

Parking Lot Street Fight

Big Vito vs. Reno

Announced Time Limit: None

Official: Charles Robinson

Ringside: No One

Instead of to the arena, we head outside the arena to a back alley of the building, where Big Vito is walking with a stickball bat. He is blindsided by Reno, who was hiding behind a dumpster! The two… well, they put on a brawl using any weapons that they can pick up and use on one another for the next few minutes. Then Vito hits Reno with the stickball bat, with Hudson screaming “Home RUN!”, and he gets the pin to end this feud once and for all.

Match Time: 5:01

Rating: E

Eric’s Thoughts: That was just ugly. I understand the concept of the feud – brothers fighting one another, Italians, whatever. But man was Reno not ready for prime time. Vito is barely ready for prime time! But he’s established and part of a solid tag team, so I can’t ship him away. Reno, however, is a different story.

After that debacle, we head to Tony, Mike, and Scott at the broadcast desk, where they talk about “the brutality” that we just saw. They quickly turn their attention to the remainder of the evening, which will be our final two World title matches; the Insiders defending the World Tag Team championships and the triple threat match for the World Heavyweight title. Tony and Scott both feel the Insiders will retain the Tag belts while Mike thinks the Thrillers have the advantage, which furthers Tenay talking good about the NBT from Worldwide. But in the main event, Tony feels it’s Sid’s night while Scott goes for the mystery man and Tenay says Scott Steiner will reign supreme.

Rating: C+

Eric’s Thoughts: Nothing to say here, these guys did alright to buy us a few minutes time to calm the crowd down.

A video shows us clear back in November when the Thrillers turned on Kevin Nash, who was acting as their coach. From there, Nash finds a new tag partner in Diamond Dallas Page, forming The Insiders. Nash and Page took the titles away from Perfect Event twice, once at Mayhem and then again at Starrcade after Mike Sanders vacated the belts from them a week after Mayhem. But who will they be facing?!

WCW World Tag Team Championships

The Insiders vs. “The Main Event” Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire

Announced Time Limit: 45:00

Official: Scott James

Ringside: No One

Commentary are surprised that it isn’t one of the more established teams of the Thrillers in this match, but that surprise changes when the match begins as Palumbo and O’Haire take it right to the champions. They take over the bout by isolating Kevin Nash in their corner. Mike puts that over as them being smart enough to know that the Insiders would have expected them to go after Page, but instead they attacked Nash’s knees to wound him. But they are unable to keep him down forever, as Kevin fights back, even hurting himself again by reversing Palumbo into a big boot. Each side tags out to their partners, with Dallas coming in with punches and clotheslines for both Thrillers! He hits Palumbo with a discus clothesline to send him to the floor, before turning his attention to O’Haire. While Page goes up to do the ten punches in the corner, nobody notices Palumbo handcuff Nash to the turnbuckle on the outside, and when Page starts setting Sean up for the Diamond Cutter, he gets nailed with Palumbo’s Jungle Kick! From there, O’Haire gets his wits back to him and climbs the ropes, before nailing the Seanton Bomb! Nash cannot break free to make the save, and we have brand new World Tag Team champions!

Match Time: 15:16

Ratings: C / B-

Eric’s Thoughts: Man did that match get the crowd hot! We have some serious future main eventers in O’Haire and Palumbo, with Page and Nash holding up their end of the bargain in putting them over. I’m also impressed with Kev and Dallas showing such great chemistry as partners, almost better in the ring together than Kevin was with Scott.

The match is over and the champagne is popping backstage! O’Haire and Palumbo arrive in the locker room of the Thrillers with their newly won championships, with Jindrak and Stasiak celebrating them. Reno offers his congratulations, but he is still tending to his wounds. Mike Sanders stands up in front of everyone to talk.

“Our plan was complete, guys! Our plan was a complete success! Together, we worked together to get back what is ours, and to knock those two old goofs out of our way! Now, it’s just a little too bad that our OTHER members couldn’t quite pick up the win…” he says while casting a disappointed gaze toward Reno and Stasiak, “…but this win right here has done more than any bad press could have done to us!”

He dumps some champagne on O’Haire and Palumbo, as Reno shakes his head and walks out of the room. Jindrak is just excited for his teammates, and while Stasiak keeps a smile on his face for his teammates, he has a pretty obvious sour look on his face after Sanders’s words. Mike sees this, and he has an even bigger crooked smile on his face.

Rating: C+

Eric’s Thoughts: I am thinking that it may be about time that the Thrillers run their natural course, and this is my first big step toward that.

We go to a backstage split screen where both Scott Steiner and Sid Vicious are seen walking toward the ring. It’s moments away from our main event!

But first, a hype video. We see Scott Steiner win the World Heavyweight championship from Booker T at Mayhem, leading to him taking out Sid at Starrcade. Jeff Jarrett joined the fray and was nearly in this match, but he found himself out of it thanks to Sid being granted a chance to be in it. The whole time, Ric Flair promised a mystery third participant, who could it be? We find out next!

WCW World Heavyweight Championship – Triple Threat Match

“Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner vs. Sid Vicious vs. ???

Announced Time Limit: 60:00

Official: Nick Patrick

Ringside: Midajah (Scott Steiner)

Steiner and Vicious alone begin the match, with Tony saying that Flair must be saving the surprise for later into the bout. The two don’t even wait for the bell, as Sid meets Steiner on his way down the ramp and starts fighting with him. They spend time heading around the barricade and into the stands briefly. Sid threatens to powerbomb Steiner on the floor, but Scott hits a low blow to break it up. It finally gets into the ring, where Scott takes Sid down with a belly to belly suplex and does push-ups.

But that’s when out comes “The Dog-Faced Gremlin” Rick Steiner! He marches down to the ring and joins the match by shoving Scott! Scott shoves him right back, with brothers getting in each others faces! The two men circle around one another, but Scott ducks under a Steinerline, and Nick Patrick takes it hard! “Good NIGHT!” says Scott Hudson, as we now have no official! Sid gets back to his feet, and he clubs Scott in the back, before setting him up for a one armed chokeslam. Until he gets Rick’s Steinerline! As Rick lays boots into Sid, Mike wonders if this is about the World title or about brothers! Scott stands back and allows this to happen, as Rick pulls Sid to his feet. But Vicious blocks the suplex, kicking Rick in the midsection and grabbing him around the throat. Scott comes in and Sid grabs him around the throat as well, and he gives both of them a chokeslam! Sid goes for a cover, but there’s no official. So instead, he gets up and sets Scott up, driving him to the mat with the powerbomb! He goes for a pin again, this time a referee joining us – but he goes over to check on Rick rather than count the pin? Sid gets up and grabs his, asking what is going on, when Tenay finally recognizes the official; it’s Mark Johnson, formerly Scott Steiner’s personal referee! Does he have a job with WCW? About that time, Rick Steiner grabs Sid and spins him around, hitting him with a belly to belly suplex, and he tells Scott to do it, do it. Scott takes over, locking in the Steiner Recliner! Sid screams in pain, but doesn’t submit… even with Rick starts grabbing Scott and pulling on his shoulders to add more pressure, Sid doesn’t submit!

But then the bell sounds! Mark Johnson stopped the match, saying that he heard Sid submit! He grabs the championship and gives it to Scott, who hugs Rick! The Steiner Brothers embrace in the ring, with Scott and Rick climbing the turnbuckles to pose together. Scott Hudson starts screaming about a setup, wondering just how deep the setup goes! Did they fool Ric Flair? Did they plan on Mark Johnson? Tony says that these are questions we are going to have to wait for Nitro tomorrow night to hopefully get some answers for! But for now, he says we have to sign off for the evening.

“For Mike, Scott, and myself, goodnight everyone; as Sid Vicious goes, it looks like the Steiner Brothers have committed the ultimate Sin!”

Match Time: 11:45

Ratings: B / B- / B- / B

Eric’s Thoughts: That crowd were way hotter for this match and storyline than it really had any right to be. The commentary had those random hiccups again where Mike and Scott gelled perfectly while Tony and Mike didn’t, but the announcing did make the match seem better. Scott really carried the match quality, being well suited to a crazy brawl, but it was Rick who didn’t seem able to keep up, which surprises me a little. Rick’s turn was a complete success, while Mark Johnson brought back his Corrupt Official (Weasel) gimmick. It went over with the crowd, I’d say he is above average at it now. And now finally we can move on from this lame mystery man story. Original plans may have been for some big “Magnificent Seven” group. But I think what they wanted to get across with those, I can do just as well with the reunion (again) of the Steiner Brothers.

Eric Bischoff's Post-Sin, Week 2 Roundup

Meanwhile, at Stamford, Connecticut:

“What do you mean?! Kellner, what the hell are you telling me? You guaranteed me that sale! You cannot be serious; you found out Eric Bischoff bought WCW?!”

–––

In a motel room in Indianapolis, an hour past Sin:

The news had spread like a wildfire. Dave Meltzer was the first reporter on the scene, but all the rest followed so quickly that it had to be broadcast on WCW.com so that people heard it from the source.

“Eric Bischoff officially the new owner of World Championship Wrestling!”

While I’m not sure exactly who stooged the information off to Meltzer, I knew that word had gotten out way faster than I had intended it to. I had wanted to stay shadowy, but the problem with that was the boys; there was no way that Johnny could have kept answering questions without revealing me. I wanted to keep my head down to stay away from the backlash that my owning the company could cause for the fan base. Sure, as I looked over the message boards, most of them remembered me as being the brains behind Nitro and the nWo and were excited for what we could do in the near future. But others brought up the same points as Ric did. The money being thrown around carelessly, the celebrities, the overuse of the nWo. I may have made a few mistakes here and there, but that’s why I had gone home last year. A few months in professional wrestling is a lifetime, and that’s why I hope that all these people who seem excited will keep tuning in, while all the rest will give it a chance and see.

The part I didn’t expect was actually just how polite the backstage was when I started walking around it. Sure, guys weren’t overly excited and happy to be there, but it wasn’t the toxicity that I had left behind in the past when guys like Hulk and Kevin were ruling the roost. I actually made a plan to bring the backstage up a little bit, and since I found out he was annoyed due to working with The Wall the previous Thunder, I zeroed in on Chuck Palumbo for my devious deed. As I was talking to him, I told him that one of my new plans for improving employee-talent relations was to check luggage for contraband. He handed his bag over, a given since he was upset at someone working while on drugs, and while I had it in my possession, I filled it with silly string. It was a pretty risky long shot of a rib, but later on when I gave it back to him, he saw the humor in being ribbed, and said he’d get me back next time. I might really enjoy working with this crop of younger guys.

It wasn’t all good news at Nitro, though. Both Kevin and Scott Steiner came up to me after the segment that featured Reno and jumped on him. Scott said that he “couldn’t sell worth a damn” and Nash told me that he felt his matches were “like watching a blind mouse do brain surgery”. Both said he wasn’t worth keeping around, but I think with more seasoning he might be worth it. He does seem to be a bit of a hot prospect as he is a pretty intimidating figure. During Thunder, I had another visitor, this time Jeff Jarrett, who feels Shane Helms is pretty clumsy and could end up hurting someone pretty badly with this new “Vertebreaker” move that he’s been practicing. I told him I would look into it. I found out through the grapevine that during the small taping for Worldwide, Crowbar was busy and forgot to shake Finlay’s hand. Scott Armstrong made him buy drinks for everyone after the show. There seemed to be no hard feelings from anyone involved.

Sin was a different beast altogether, though. I decided to play another little prank to make everyone at ease, this time picking on my “big buddy” Kevin. I told him that we had changed his dressing room location before the show started and pointed him in the right direction. When he walked in the room, a bucket of water showered him. Nash didn’t seem irritated, thankfully the guy is a big joker himself. He vowed revenge, but I know he’ll just play a prank on me down the line somewhere. But the sight of Kev all wet when he went out to the ring brought some of the guys to tears. Tony Schiavone seemed to take to my example, but his joke was completely uncalled for. Instead of harmless fun, he toilet papered a dressing room. Everyone found it to be in bad taste, and I gave him a pretty stern warning about it, saying that we can’t be taking extra time after arena hours to clean up just because he wanted to do a stupid prank. Jeff Jarrett again gave me a few thoughts on someone, this time his own on-screen bodyguard, Ron Harris. He told me – in confidence – that he didn’t feel Ron would ever “get it” in the ring after this long, and could probably just be cut loose. Between the crowds not caring to see Ron and Don visibly starting to slow down, Jeff may be on the right track. The other flaw in our system was Bam Bam Bigelow. He annoyed quite a few people in the Hardcore Invitational by performing while high on some unnamed hard drugs and a slew of painkillers. As far as the drugs went, I told him that we are running a tight ship here, and can’t have someone stoned out of their minds and possibly hurting people. He took the message well, but took it even better when I told him that I was going to help him by sending him to rehab for the painkiller addiction. He practically got on his knees and swore his life to me for not just firing him over the ordeal.

Time Warner didn’t seem pleased about the quality of our show, I had a voicemail from Jamie Kellner about that on Monday morning. I wasn’t very surprised by that, I have heard that he was pretty upset that we are still on what he feels are “his” channels now. Well hopefully the plans I have for SuperBrawl next month will live up to his standards.

[Writer’s note: I was ONE POINT below Time Warner’s broadcast quality level. Ugh.]

I had a surprise up my sleeve after Sin was over, though. I gathered everyone around to give a short speech. I gave a compliment to Scott Steiner for putting on such a good match and promo, putting him over as carrying the company’s top shelf very well. I pointed out Dallas as a good example; yeah I made sure he was protected in his pinfall loss to Sean O’Haire, but that was better than when I floated the idea to Kev and he shot it down, saying he would pull his creative control clause because he didn’t think he should be losing to guys that young and inexperienced. But the surprise was that I sent a few compliments toward Ric Flair, saying that he’s been playing a great authority figure and is doing a great job as foil to Scott’s title reign. All of them seemed pretty pleased with being singled out like that, and hopefully in time Ric will stop giving me dirty glances every time I walk past.

I’ll be honest, Sin didn’t get nearly as much money for WCW as I was hoping for. I really wanted it to help offset some of the huge wages I have to take care of. But, I suppose I’ve been saying that Rome wasn’t built in a day. I may end up very much in the red by the end of the month, but as long as I can keep plugging along, I really hope the fans come back around sooner rather than later. All we can do is start booking Nitro to set up for SuperBrawl: Revenge.

–––

Despite Anderz wanting to see The Magnificent Seven and me not providing him with it, I hope everyone enjoyed Sin!

<p>Good show. Rick's involvement seems like it should've been obvious in retrospect. I do think it kind of makes Flair look like a dumbass, unless he's secretly in cahoots with Scotty. I have no recollection of Rick using a Stranglehold knockoff as a theme, but there's probably a lot of latter-day WCW I've wiped from my memory.</p><p> </p><p>

I guess it's unavoidable that Bam Bam gets in trouble right away in this time period. Seems like you and Briskout were able to get him sorted out though, whereas I couldn't. Shame for me.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm picturing Tony reacting to your warning by saying it was "the greatest rib in the history of our sport."</p>

<p>Great show! </p><p> </p><p>

Biggest surprise for me, honestly, was that Shane Douglas didn't win the US Title as I really thought he would. Morrus and Jarrett should be a good feud for the title though. Rick Steiner as the mystery man was, in retrospect, an obvious choice, but I'll admit that I never would have called it, so that was a nice surprise too. Would have liked to see The Insiders hang on to the Tag Team Titles a little while longer, but I can't fault the logic in having the young guys go over.</p><p> </p><p>

Looking forward to seeing what you've got cooking for Nitro.</p>

WCW Nitro: 1/15/2001

[Writer's Note: I changed the format up. This is how I'm planning on running Nitro in the future, with this being done in Eric's POV instead of just giving his thoughts. The Eric's Thoughts style will remain on pay-per-views. Thunder and Worldwide will continue to be a list format, but I made a nice change to that for the future as well. Hope you enjoy!

OOC 7/10 Update: As with the 1/8 Nitro, after the fall of Photobucket, I reworked this show to be a combination of how the show was originally formatted combined with how it became. This show feels like it went long, but if you made it through the first Nitro and Sin, don't worry - you only have this and one more Nitro until you get past my TV show dissertations!]

Last Week in WCW: Scott Steiner pulled a fast one on Ric Flair and WCW as his brother Rick infiltrated the Sin main event! What role did Mark Johnson play? Goldberg was betrayed by the man he put his trust in, Road Warrior Animal! Will Goldberg get revenge by the time of SuperBrawl: Revenge? Jeff Jarrett attacked General Rection, saying he wants the United States championship! We have new World Tag Team champions in Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire! What could happen this week? All this and more, only on Nitro!

We start the show right away with The Steiner Brothers, as Tony says that we will shortly have stills from Sin. Scott gets a microphone and tells everybody to shut up. Always a good start to the promo. He wastes no time talking about last night right away.

“So I’s watchin’ the pay-per-view last night after it was over, and I heard fat Tony out there, sayin’ that me’an’my’brudder Rick gettin’ back together was the ultimate sin. That was real clever, fat Tony, but not so smart. Ya see, ‘The Genetic Freak’ and ‘The Dog-Faced Gremlin’ knew our best bet was to play that old sumvabitc-------lair for the fool he is to play his own type’a game. All you people know for damn well, that if Flair coulda done it in the eighties, he and that other old fool sum’b---h Arn Annerson would have pulled the same exact stunt just to keep the Dubya-See-Dubyew belt around his waist.”

Rick barks before taking the microphone and saying that every time he and Scott have ever fought one another has been a plot by some type of management to play the closest tied family in wrestling against one another – and Flair was just the next dumb bastard to try and set them against each other; but that this time, they played the management for fools. Scott closes the interview by saying that now he’s made Sting walk away, he’s made Booker T walk away, and he’s giving Sid the chance to just walk away from “Big Poppa Pump” because he “don’t fake it, I break it!” The Steiners pose to close the segment, which really got the show off to a strong start. The crowd are hot, booing them loudly. Rick improvised well here, thankfully, and he played into Scott’s masterful job of riling up the crowd. Scott really looked good out there, though he really did outgrow Rick years ago. But don’t tell them I ever said that.

Rating: B+

http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png From there we go to Tony Schiavone and Scott Hudson. No Mike tonight, which does three things for good and bad news. The good news is, Tony and Mike won’t both be trying to be the lead announcer out there. The bad news is that Mike and Scott work great together, so we’ll be missing that connection, and also that Tenay and Schiavone have worked together for a lot longer than Tenay and Hudson have. In any regard, they show some stills from last night’s main event.

Rating: C

Jamie Knoble vs. “Das Wunderkind” Alex Wright

I know that we needed a match to calm things back down here after the Steiners’ opening segment, so this was it, and it worked well. Tony and Scott did a good job on commentary of juggling talking about the Steiner Brothers and paying attention to the match, which ended with Knoble going for a suplex, but Wright blocked it and pulled him into a small package for the pinfall. You can say what you want about Alex and his overpush a few years ago, but he is still a young, talented performer, and I think I can do something with that if given time.

http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png Team Canada march down the aisle led by Lance Storm, who takes a microphone and wants to be serious for a minute. He starts the anti-America schtick by saying that he, Elix, and Mike proved once again that Canada produced better athletes than any other country in the world last night by defeating the Filthy Animals.

“All these other countries take so much time to cry or moan or screw up electing their President, while we take that time to train and become the greatest in the world. Last night, we showed up the Mexican lucha style. Tonight, we take on two stupid, overweight Italians. Yet still, we get no respect. So it’s about time that we take respect back for Calgary…. Alberta, Canada. Please rise for the national anthem.”

The entirety of Team Canada stand at attention in the ring during the anthem, but the Godfather-esque Mamalukes theme cuts it off. Lance may never make a great money promo, but he does what he does well. Elix and Tylene were coming off badly in their previous roles, so around what Storm was doing, we showed Skipper as more of a Cocky Young, while Gunns was just Eye Candy. I’d say both gimmick changes came off as Average, for now. They should quickly grow better at them.

Rating: D+

The Mamalukes vs. Team Canada (Lance Storm & Mike Awesome) w/Elix Skipper and Major Gunns

I messed this one up just a little bit. I guess I expected a little too much out of Rick and Scott earlier, didn’t think that Alex and Jamie would cool the crowd enough. So I told these guys to do the same. But Wright and Knoble already had them cooled off, which led to this match being met by fans sitting on their hands. Elix was sent backstage pretty directly, getting caught close to cheating, but they ended up not needing to; as Johnny went to the top rope, Awesome ran over and shoved him off, leading to Storm locking in the Canadian Maple Leaf for a clean submission victory.

http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png After a short break, Ric Flair heads down to the ring, and “The Nature Boss” only has Steiners on his mind. He talks about how WCW is the greatest wrestling organization in the world today – I really wish I could agree, Ric, but we’re working on it – and that to have a champion who’s going to play games like Scott and Rick did last night to cheat the fans out of a fair title match is an unforgivable offense.

“You can talk about how I used to defend the title all you like, but at the end of the day, I got in there and proved who the better man was all on my own, pal!”

Ric says that the Steiners better be ready, because not even twenty-four hours after Scott retained the title at Sin, Flair was on the phone with someone who wants the next crack at the championship – and he’ll be right here on Nitro later tonight!

Kwee Wee w/Paisley vs. Meng

This match was set up because apparently “Angry Alan” was really angry that Meng eliminated him last night from the Hardcore Invitational. His anger serves him no good here, as Meng runs him over. They worked the crowd well here, with Paisley doing good ringside work. Meng locks in the Tongan Deathgrip for the win, but refuses to release the hold! Finally referee Billy Silverman, who couldn’t get Meng to release the hold, reverses his decision, awarding the match to Kwee Wee by disqualification! We did this one to write off this partnership, as Meng is on his way out of the company. We go to a commercial break so we can get Meng out of the ring.

http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png A victorious smile on his face, Mike Sanders walks down to the ring. He takes a microphone to talk about how his master plan was a success.

“See, I knew that I could find a set of Thrillers who could dominate the Insiders! They stood no chance as Sean and Chuck simply were too young, too driven, and too talented to be stopped! And furthermore-”

He gets cut off as Kevin Nash and Diamond Dallas Page enter the ring behind him, and Page drops him with the Diamond Cutter! Dallas takes a microphone and a chair as Kevin drags Sanders up the ramp. Page guards him while Nash sets our commissioner up for a Jackknife Powerbomb off the stage! I took that before, I think Mike could make it. The rest of the Thrillers (except Reno) come out, but get held at bay by the threat of their leader taking a ride off the stage!

“So, hey, monkeys. The way I see it, you boys got one over on the ol’ Insiders last night at Sin. Maybe we got a little overconfident. Maybe we got a little too over on our own hype. But guess what? It won’t happen again. And if we don’t get our rematch, right here, tonight, then I think little Mikey might not like the ride that ‘Big Sexy’ is looking to give him.”

Nash is really coming across well here, and the crowd is so hot right now. Could really use a heel color guy to scream about how this isn’t fair to Sanders, but we don’t have that. Page holds the microphone down to Sanders, who comically screams like a horror movie victim, saying that they need to save him. So O’Haire and Palumbo are left with no choice but to accept, giving the Insiders their title rematch right here tonight! Before they release him, they also add the stipulation that all Thrillers who aren’t named Sean O’Haire and Chuck Palumbo are barred from ringside, which Sanders is forced to agree to in order to save his own bacon! Kevin shoves Mike on top of the NBT, but Sean catches him easily, never taking his eyes off of Nash and Page. Damn good segment, some really brilliant booker did a great job setting this up.

http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png “Mean” Gene is backstage with a special guest now, a man who played a big part in last night’s main event, Mark Johnson. The crowd boos as Johnson walks into frame, with Okerlund asking him what he was doing. Mark proclaims innocence, saying that when Nick Patrick went down, he was the first, most able-bodied official on staff last night to run out and take over the match. Gene shows stills of Johnson ignoring Sid’s cover, which Mark plays off as “a mistake” and says it won’t happen again. Gene also brings up Mark’s past in WCW, where he used to be the personal referee for Scott Steiner and Buff Bagwell, when Johnson angrily tells Gene to stop defaming his character, that he doesn’t have to listen to these allegations, he’s a WCW official and his call stood last night no matter who liked it or not! I won’t say that I’m not trying to recreate Nick Patrick’s heel run from 1996 a little bit, but I also won’t say that I’m not looking to find a new direction that you can do a heel referee. Mark is really good at it, in any case, looking like a completely sleaze.

http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png Back in Ric Flair’s office, we find him talking to Arn Anderson. The fans give a polite pop for these two every time, which is why it’s always worth having them show up on screen together now and again. “The Enforcer” is asking Flair if he’s sure that “this guy” will be up to the challenge, but Ric insists that after Rick Steiner lied to his face, he’s found someone who wants a piece of Scott more than anything else in this universe.

WCW Cruiserweight Championship Number One Contender

Shannon Moore vs. Corporal Cajun vs. Yang w/Leia Meow[/b]

A lot of great high spots all through this bout as these three battled for a shot at Chavo’s title. The crowd were still really hot from the past few segments, and that helped this one. Tony and Scott even helped the match by giving it good attention. Lash, however, was definitely lagging behind the other two. As much as I like LeRoux, he just isn’t as good as these newer, better cruiserweights. However, if anyone looked at this match with half a brain, you can easy see that he’s the one going into this with a pre-made storyline. As such, he takes advantage of Moore being crotched on the top turnbuckle to come behind Yang and hit him with the Whiplash 2000 to score the big victory.

General Rection joins Cajun in the aisle, giving him a big hug in celebration a lot like how Cajun did last night at Sin. However the same result occurs; with both of the acting MIA members distracted in their joy, The Harris Brothers attack from behind, leading to Jeff Jarrett delivering the old “El Kabong” to Rection to leave the Misfits lying on the ground yet again. Another day, another weaselly attack by Jarrett on the United States champion.

http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png “The Cat” Ernest Miller, along with Ms. Jones, joins “Mean” Gene backstage. We kept this segment pretty short and sweet, Cat says that he has something other than dancing on his mind as he brings up the way Mike Sanders acted earlier tonight. He says that WCW deserves a better commissioner than someone who’s going to get scared by a little threat, even if it did come from a big Kevin Nash. He challenges Sanders to put up the commissionership in a match against him, saying that Flair needs to book it before Mike gets scared again.

http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png Tony and Scott now turn attention to what occurred last night to Goldberg, as he was attacked by his own partner. He still has his streak, but he is not here tonight due to injuries he had during the “heinous attack” as Tony puts it. But was it the worst attack in the history of the sport, Tony? This brings out Totally Buff, along with Animal and new manager Madusa. Animal stays silently menacing during this segment, leaving the talking to Lex and Marcus. Buff does the best in this part, riling the crowd up by getting them to chant Goldberg’s name before calling them “a bunch of dolts” because he’s not here, and it’s all thanks to them. Lex, however… well… let’s just say that I’m about to stop giving Luger a live microphone. He stumbles around words, makes little sense, calls Goldberg “a big, ugly, stupid piece of chicken” and just barely does what needed done here. Madusa’s presence does help him, at least, because she takes the microphone from him to give it to Bagwell. But by this time, I called a little audible and sent “The Nature Boy” out there early. The CEO does what Lex was supposed to do, which is announce that Goldberg was in contact with their office and has been granted a match at SuperBrawl: Revenge against Animal! Flair improvised well, which is great, because someone a little better than Buff had to save this from being a mess.

Flair is still out there, which is the point he should have come out to begin with. He is a total pro though, changing what he was meant to say (about Goldberg facing Animal) and instead of just repeating it, he takes time to announce that while we don’t know what it will be just yet, but it will not be a standard singles match. As for Totally Buff, he says that they will have too much on their plates to worry about Goldberg at SuperBrawl because there’s two guys who really want their hands on “The Total Package” and Buff… and into the ring comes Kronik! Adams and Clark chase Totally Buff out of the ring, continuing to move so as to not run afoul of Animal. That should add a nice tag team match to the upcoming SuperBrawl, and it finally fixes Kronik up as far as what they’re doing goes. They were getting cheered like faces while acting like heels by attacking Goldberg, and rather than turn them fully heel I’ve set them after Totally Buff. We need to restore order a little bit; shades of gray have a shelf life, no matter what Russo thought.

http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png In order to calm things down, I gave Tony and Scott the next time to do what we used to do at the top of the hour; talk. Tony puts over how we are now in hour number two of “the greatest wrestling show in the sport of professional wrestling” which means Nitro but as often as Tony says that, he could just mean this specific episode as well. They discuss our main event match which was made earlier tonight between the Insiders and Natural Born Thrillers, as well as Ric Flair saying that he was going to announce the challenger at SuperBrawl: Revenge for Scott Steiner’s World Heavyweight championship tonight. Hudson notes that a few people it won’t be will be Kronik, Totally Buff, Animal, or Goldberg, as they have been placed in matches against one another by our CEO. The two speculate on a few names, ranging from Sting, Sid Vicious, Booker T, Jeff Jarrett, or maybe even people who we don’t know have joined WCW from another company!

http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png Speaking of Jeff Jarrett, he and The Harris Brothers are backstage with “Mean” Gene Okerlund. Jeff cuts off “this bald slappy” right away to note that they mentioned his name in potential challengers for the World title at SuperBrawl. Jarrett says that unless he finds a way to take it, “that old gap-toothed slapnut Flair” will continue to hold down “The Chosen One” by keeping him away from the World title – which is why he turned his attention to the “Slapnuts in Action” and the United States title. He says that once he wins that belt for the fourth time, and then he will show Flair that he was a fool for overlooking “The Chosen One”. He adds that tonight, he’s taking on The Cat, and he’s going to spay and neuter him with an acoustic equalizer if he needs to.

Buff Bagwell w/Madusa and Animal vs. Norman Smiley

This is just a short match that I’m trying to use as something to keep eyes on Nitro, since it’s between two decent level WCW stars. The crowd are still really hot, which only helps, and they got the crowd even hotter when Norman did the Big Wiggle on first Buff and then on Madusa too! When Animal moves in on Norman on the outside of the ring, he screams for Glacier, but despite his snow falling and music playing, he never appears. The end of the match sees Animal get in the ring and lay Smiley out with a vicious clothesline behind Charles Robinson’s back, leading to the Buff Blockbuster for the pinfall.

Match Time: 2:25

After a break, Norman finds Glacier backstage, coming out of the restroom. Norman is irritated, but changes quickly to excitement when he reveals that he signed himself and Glacier a tag team match for Thunder against some returning tag team. Smiley says that with the Big Wiggle and a true hero at his side, there’s no old, worn out team who can beat them! Glacier doesn’t seem nearly as excited as Norman was.

http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png “Mean” Gene is standing by with our new Hardcore champion, “The Franchise” Shane Douglas, asking him just what he was thinking by joining the Hardcore Invitational at the very end, and especially after having lost to General Rection. Shane tells Gene to stop living in the past, saying that “The Franchise” only looks to the future.

“It’s a future, Gene, that includes ‘The Franchise’ going back to his roots of hardcore wrestling dominance. Back to his roots when ‘The Franchise’ would slap around these punks with steel chairs and barbed wire who knew that swinging a weapon was the only way they could win. I don’t care if I have Crowbar, Terry Funk, Meng, or any others after me, I’ve seen men like them come and go, and the one things that remains constant is ‘The Franchise’.”

Shane gets cut off by the appearance of his opponent for tonight, the former champion Terry Funk! Funk tells Douglas that he might think he’s some hot piece of merchandise right now, but he’ll never be a timeless icon in hardcore, extreme wrestling like Terry Funk is because Funk will not relinquish that torch until someone rips it from his cold, lifeless hands! With that, he uses one of those cold hands to punch Douglas, and we start our Hardcore title match backstage as Gene rushes out of the way!

WCW Hardcore Championship

“The Franchise” Shane Douglas vs. Terry Funk

The match is a nice brawl that the crowd were pretty hot for. Didn’t expect so many ECW fans in Indiana, but they must have wanted to see this match for some reason. Both of them are well suited for this wild brawl as they move closer the closer toward the ring. Funk starts throwing chairs from outside the ring to the inside at Shane, but Douglas takes one and clobbers him with it when he enters the ring. Terry recovers, but Shane goes to the chain in his boot to score a knockout punch, followed by the Franchiser for the pinfall. This match needed someone on color commentary, two play by play guys don’t seem to play well with a match like this.

Match Time: 7:54

After the match, Douglas takes up a chair and continues to knock on Funk with it. It looks as though Shane wants to put Terry Funk out of the whole sport, until Meng comes out to stop this! Tony notes that Meng is getting a Hardcore title match on Thunder this Wednesday, as Douglas gets locked in the Tongan Deathgrip! Crowbar and Daffney hit the ring to check on Terry. But he takes up a chair and smacks Meng with it! He continues to hit Meng with the chair until he drops the Tongan, and once that happens he, Daffney, and Douglas all head out of the ring together. Scott wonders if this is some “new threat” in wrestling as it appears Crowbar has joined forces with Shane Douglas! Daffney approached me after the segment and said that she felt her new “Weirdo – gimmicky gimmick got an average rating, but Crowbar was very underwhelming out there because he doesn’t have enough popularity.” I’m not sure what she was talking about, but she skipped away in delight, so whatever. Devon has shown himself to be a much better heel than face, so while I had originally thought of putting him against Douglas for SuperBrawl, I thought putting them together could be better for Storm in the long run.

“The Cat” Ernest Miller w/Ms. Jones vs. “The Chosen One” Jeff Jarrett

These guys are out there in the cool down slot, the final match before the main event, and they do a good job at playing the crowd into a bit of a lull. Miller outmaneuvers Jarrett with some martial arts and dancing footwork before Jeff gets a chance to run through some of his moves. Ms. Jones does some good work keeping the crowd invested, urging “Cat” on as he fights out of a rear chinlock and is ready to set up the Feliner kick. However, Mike Sanders comes out to the stage, and he says that he would like to point out that this is a no disqualifications match. Just then, Miller turns around into a guitar that wraps around his head, with Jarrett falling on top in order to get the victory. The commissioner screws with his enemy and Jarrett picks up a win en route to wanting the US title; just good booking, I’d say.

WCW World Tag Team Championships

Sean O’Haire & “The Main Event” Chuck Palumbo vs. The Insiders

So you guys know it’s only my second week back on the job, right? And how someone who’s been out of things for a while can occasionally make a crucial mistake? Yeah… so I told these guys that they were going to get seventeen minutes in order to have a good, slow build kind of a match. And that was great until it came during the match. I looked at the clock and realized that we didn’t have that kind of time left in the show if we were going to work in the final segment with Scott. So imagine the surprise when I got on the earpiece at only nine minutes into the match with Nick Patrick and told him that we had to go home already. Fortunately nobody seemed upset, but it dragged the match down when the slow build we started out with ended up being cut so short. The crowd were at least really hot during this, even if the lack of a color guy hurt it again and the selling left a lot to be desired. Anyway, the match ended with Page stopping O’Haire from hitting Nash with the Seanton Bomb by tripping him on the top turnbuckle. Dallas set him up for a top rope assisted Diamond Cutter, but he never got to do it because into the ring slid Lance Storm, and he nailed Page with a superkick that put him out flat! Nick called for the bell to give the win but not the belts to the Insiders; however as O’Haire and Palumbo got out of there, Elix Skipper and Mike Awesome slide in.

Match Time: 11:47

Despite some fight from the Insiders, the three on one is not a place for anyone. Storm locks Nash in the Maple Leaf while Skipper helps Awesome to hook Page up and drill him with an Awesome Bomb, and the Insiders have been left lying by Team Canada! Elix is way too small-time for this feud, but hopefully segments like this can help him get bigger. Kev and Dallas looked good here though, the crowd completely buying them being worn down and then beaten down in this fashion. And as Team Canada pose over the former champions, we start up the next big feud that will head toward SuperBrawl.

The Steiner Brothers come to the ring, Scott taking a microphone. He talks about how Ric Flair has been playing games with him for the past two months with mystery challengers, and he don’t care who it is! He says that he almost hopes and prays that it’s gonna be Flair himself walking down the aisle, so he can break him in half with the Steiner Recliner and send him to the afterlife to see the real “Nature Boy” Buddy Rogers, so he can slap him around! We really need a new color commentator, because Tony and Hudson are both face announcers so neither of them can banter with the other. Steiner starts naming off people who could come out to face him.

“Sting; he walked away. Booker T? He’s a punk who left WCW behind. Sid? He better know better than to come after ‘Freakzilla’ again. Goldberg can’t and won’t get a shot. How about some thinkin’ outside the box? Hulk Hogan ran out of WCW with his tail between his yellow legs. Bret Hart is a cripple. Randy Savage doesn’t have madness anymore, he has dementia. The Rock or Steve Austin wouldn’t come to WCW because they couldn’t pay them enough anyways, and besides that I’d beat the crap outta them too. Even The Undertaker wouldn’t have the guts to ride his little scooter bike down here against ‘The Big Bad Booty Daddy’! The only guy from Japan who might have a shot would be Godzilla, but even if he brings in Mothra as his tag partner, ‘Freakzilla’ and ‘The Dog-Faced Gremlin’ would suplex them both down and break ‘em in half with the Recliner! So come on, Flair! Is it your old buddy Triple H? Because a punk like him wouldn’t wanna play this game!”

<iframe width="50" height="50" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Z4ckmZjzboY?rel=0&showinfo=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The crowd goes nuts as out walks Booker T to shut Steiner up! Scott looks like he’s seen a ghost as Booker gets a microphone.

“I been listenin’ and listenin’ to you talk and talk, and say that Booka’ T walked away. Well Booka’ T don’t walk away, Booka’ T just comes back badder and bigger than before! I took some time to heal up and to watch you and learn all your mistakes, and now it’s time for the gold belt to come back home. And then, Booka’ T is gonna be a four time! Four time! Four time! Four time! Dub-See-Dubya World’s Heavyweight champion, if you can dig that! And when I get my much due revenge and take that belt back home at SuperBrawl: Revenge, do us all a favor, Steiner. Don’t hate the player! Hate the game!”[/i]

With that, Booker throws down the mic and poses, as Scott and Rick look pissed off in the ring! Tony signs off for the night, saying that we just gained a huge main event for SuperBrawl!

"A big, ugly, stupid piece of chicken" is great, because it sounds like something Luger might really say as he's stumbling over his words. (C-)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> The wolf howl brings out <strong>The Insiders</strong>, both men not very happy about being cheated out of their title match on Nitro. Nash talks about how he’s wanted a piece of Awesome ever since he showed up in WCW because he needs to establish dominance over “any big, greedy man who uses a powerbomb” and says that while his knees may be sore, he won’t be getting put in that crab again. Page says that they’re going to “feel – the – ” but no bang, as <strong>Team Canada</strong> interrupt, Lance inserting his “If I can be serious” to chop off Page’s catchphrase. Storm says that it sounds like the Insiders are taking this personally. It’s not personal. WCW were giving them no respect, and so the way to get respect is to make an impact on the biggest guys in the place, and that’s going to be Page and Nash. <em>“And look at what happened; one little attack, and now I’m in the main event tonight.”</em> Elix chimes in, saying that it’s about to be prime time, baby, when Lance says that he’s bringing respect from Calgary, Alberta Canada. Dallas closes things by saying that tonight when he faces Storm, he’s going to give him an American BANG! (C+) <span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Gunns helped Lance during this. Stevie was pretty weak. Insiders both looked good, but Elix looked lost out there.</em></span></p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> <strong>“Primetime” Elix Skipper</strong> is still out there after a break for a match, where he defeats <strong>Jamie Knoble</strong> by escaping from a flying leg drop and capitalizing with the Play of the Day for a win at 3:17. (D) <span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Stevie Ray is not good color. (C+)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> “Mean” Gene is in the ring and he brings out <strong>Goldberg</strong>! Goldberg keeps it fairly short, saying that as angry as he was, he felt he could have defeated Totally Buff while teaming with anyone, even one of the random staff, even Gene. However, he felt he’d find someone a little bigger and better, show some respect – but he didn’t know that respect would be paid back with treason. <em>“That treason will be dealt with at SuperBrawl: Revenge, because Animal? YOU’RE NEXT!”</em> (B-) <span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Goldberg’s performance was fantastic, but Gene just was dreadful here.</em></span></p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> <strong>The Perfect Event</strong> reunite for a match as they take on the remnants of <strong>3 Count</strong>, Shane Helms and Shannon Moore. It’s not a long match until Moore drops from the apron and leaves, leaving Helms to the wolves and to get decimated, ending with Stasiak’s Perfect Plant for the win in 4:10. (D+) <span style="font-size:8px;"><em>The match was meant to cool the crowd again, but Goldberg’s interview wasn’t as hot as anticipated. Stevie Ray was pretty weak. Johnson manages to escape into a waiting vehicle, with Sid laughing maniacally and whispering <em>“Next time.”</em> ©</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> Despite a turn to “Angry Alan”, <strong>Kwee Wee</strong> is no match for <strong>Sean O’Haire</strong>, who takes over the match by hitting a fireman’s carry smash and, when he’s done with this, finishing it in 2:50 after the Seanton Bomb. (D+) <span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Paisley did good work at ringside. Stevie Ray was weak on commentary. Crowbar explains that he joined forces with Shane because he realized he was never going to be able to start his new hardcore revolution off of Terry Funk; he could only achieve it through “The Franchise”. Douglas agrees, saying that he holds the torch of hardcore, and that this is no triple threat, no revolution, no new blood, this is “The Franchise” taking a young, impressionable man under his wing and molding him into what he can become: a new franchise. (C-) <span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Douglas looked good, doing a masterful job with improvising. We brought Booker in to be the next challenger for the World championship, which was met with some really hot crowd reactions. Booker isn’t technically cleared to wrestle again until the beginning of February, but we couldn’t take two whole weeks without setting something up. I intend on using that as part of the build-up where I can, but that won’t be until this week’s Nitro. We also started a storyline between the Insiders and Team Canada. There seem to have been a few detractors here and there of this one so far, people thinking that Team Canada aren’t popular enough for Kev or Dallas to want to put them over. I’ll say this, they did well in the attack segments so far, and maybe after the way Dallas didn’t mind much to put over O’Haire, I’m hopeful that he will convince Kevin that it’s the way to go for the future of WCW.</em></em></p><p><em><em> </em></em></p><p><em><em> “There was some other good news. I found out some common ground between two men and, by putting them together and starting a small conversation, instigated a new friendship between them. World experiences led to Lance Storm and Alex Wright getting along famously, and now this has become one more positive influence around the backstage area. No longer do I have all of these toxic friendships that drag down the whole arena, I’m working on having some harmony for a change – and especially harmony that I don’t have to lay out money to attain.</em></em></p><p><em><em> </em></em></p><p><em><em> “The reintroduction of a heel Mark Johnson in the Sin main event was almost a last minute decision, done in order to really protect Sid. But taking him away from NWA: Wildside would have left them with no officials. I fixed that by spending money that I didn’t have, but by setting up a few things for our future, by signing a few more referees and assigning them down there so they can work on perfecting their craft. A young referee from Indiana by the name of Dan Engler, who goes by Rudy Charles. He who isn’t bad at all, very good for only having been in the business for three years, but could use more seasoning (and an opening in our roster) before we need him on the main show. Also, my intelligence should never be doubted when it comes to a great PR move waiting to happen. I signed a female Puerto Rican referee by the name of Laura Ochoa, who goes by Laura Mattano. She seems to want to maybe eventually become a wrestler, but for now she is content at officiating. I also sent Reno and “The Sarge” down to Wildside, but for completely different purposes; Reno to learn and Bruce to train.</em></em></p><p><em><em> </em></em></p><p><em><em> “I cleared up some room for “Sarge” to head downstairs, so to speak, because I brought in four new road agents – though definitely not people who are new to wrestling. In this age of needing to put on our best shows in order to pick up fan reaction again, I felt it was best to bring in some veterans to help hold our backstage and our matches together the best. To that end, I reached out to Harley Race, Paul Orndorff, Jerry Jarrett, and Tully Blanchard. All of them have the add-on effect of being friends with people already on the roster, especially Orndorff who is looked at as a mentor to a lot of our Power Plant trainees. As long as I can keep Jerry from wanting Jeff to get the World title every night, we should be great with him. Tully’s religious nature should help keep the backstage a polite area, so long as he doesn’t become preachy and rub anyone the wrong way. Harley may not have anyone he’s friends with on the roster after this month when I let Terry Funk’s contract go, but I felt we needed him just because I don’t think there is anyone in the world who can put a match together quite like “Handsome Harley” can.</em></em></p><p><em><em> </em></em></p><p><em><em> “Speaking of contracts, I kept three contracts active by extending them for another few months. Sharmell, honestly, is probably only sticking around because she’s dating Booker, but Daffney and Kristina (a.k.a Leia Meow) are planned to have storylines in the future. I honestly could have probably let them go, because it’s not like they are going to be doing main event things unless they catch on, but it does keep up a nice female presence to have them around as well.</em></em></p><p><em><em> </em></em></p><p><em><em> “A few veterans made some points to me on Nitro. Kevin Nash told me that he felt Shawn Stasiak doesn’t connect with fans and could be written off. Scott Steiner thinks that Elix Skipper can’t work the style that WCW employs and should just be jobbed off of the roster. But Bill DeMott thinks that Mark Jindrak is definitely a can’t-miss prospect and should be pushed hard.</em></em></p><p><em><em> </em></em></p><p><em><em> “Thunder saw a minor injury, as Shannon Moore damaged some knee cartilage when he dropped off the apron. Freak accidents like that happen unfortunately, but he will be fine. He says he could keep working through it, but I’m going to keep him out of the ring until doctors have said he’s all cleared anyways. It will only be just into February until he’s all healed up. “Mr. Wonderful” being around has already paid off once in relieving Scott Armstrong of his locker room leading duties, as he took Konnan to task at the Worldwide taping for bragging and boasting to anyone in earshot. Orndorff told him, in no uncertain terms, that nobody likes a loudmouth, and told him that he needed to “sit down, shut up, and shape up” also charging him with buying drinks for everyone he irritated after the show. Konnan seemed to have taken it well, doing what Paul said without complaint.</em></em></p><p><em><em> </em></em></p><p><em><em> “This week’s Nitro will be aired on Tuesday, which could potentially give us some bigger ratings when we aren’t head to head with Raw for a week. So we will have to bring our A-game for that. In really good news, SuperBrawl’s location has been set up after a few phone calls. Previously there was talking of moving it to Nashville, but California has hosted the past few editions of the show, so I’m staying loyal to that. We are going to be holding the show in the Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield. We may even manage to sell the place out! That seems like a much better idea than going somewhere that we know we can’t get enough people to fill.</em></em></p><p><em><em> </em></em></p><p><em><em> “With three matches set up and a month yet to go until SuperBrawl, it looks like we may just have things fall in line nicely for one of the biggest shows of our year. All it will take is keeping our heads on straight and going one show at a time, one day at a time.</em></em></p><p><em><em> </em></em></p><p><em><em> “Should that feel like I’m at an alcoholic’s anonymous meeting? Because it kinda feels like I am. All we need is Scott Hall to show up and it’ll be a real AA meeting.”</em></em></p>

Steiner and Booker feuding for the World Title should be a money maker for you and should guarantee you some good main event matches if you choose to stretch the feud out over several pay per views.

I'm intrigued by the idea of having Nash and Page feuding with Team Canada, even if I am kind of torn. I'm a big fan of both Nash and Page, and while I get that they are at a stage where they need to start putting younger talent over, I'm hoping you don't intend to just job them out. I think they can still be useful, both in the Tag Team Title picture, or even the World Title picture, if need be. That said, I'm also a big fan of Lance Storm, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this one plays out.

Looking forward to the next show!
