World of Mixed Martial Arts 5 FAQ

Recommended Posts

When I'm reading everybody comment, I'm kinda surprised. Not because of the joy to see another WMMA game, I'm enthusiastic myself about this idea, but I’m seriously thinking some of you have been living under a rock for the past decade to be happy about the first few info we have :

- E-license again ? As a user of multiple PCs, this is one of the most annoying **** possible. I’m kinda surprise you don’t put it on steam as soon as possible, and I would be interested to know why.

- That price. 35$ for a text-based simulation in 2017 on a PC ? That’s basically the blockbusters games prices during steam sales. I get there are no competitors for it and that you fixes your game price freely but that’s a lot of money considering the quality of the game and the fact that most of its attraction is done by mods made freely by the community (which, btw, is incredible).

- A non-scalable size for the game screen ? Again ? This is supposed to be a basic feature for every game since 15 years. Being a dev myself, the “language does not permit it” is one of the most annoying answer given. Nobody forces you to use that language, obviously.

-

I’ll be waiting from the gameplay improvement in order to decide to buy it or not. Since nothing is announced yet, won’t judge, but please don’t actually remove feature the same way you did in WMMA4 with the one night tournament, the excuse used for that was atrocious.

- He explained he gets way less money for Steam releases so I think he'd rather have a small community use it through E-license (which honestly isn't that much of a hassle as long as Scott is alive and well in case I screw up ) than a larger, more casual and critical community on steam. People here know what to expect, so you won't get these negative reviews of putzes that thing they're buying an EA UFC clone. I used to play it at work breaks and you lose a full minute a day switching between licenses as the code remains saved on the machine.

- It's a niche game. I'm not alone when I say today's "blockbusters" bore or frustrate a lot of gamers. I also get the feeling that you think text sim and quality don't go hand in hand, and that's a shame. I can testify the quality of the game is very good, especially comparing to some modern day "blockbusters".

- Of course. Why not use a different language, which would probably take months to learn and years to master? Besides, it's a text sim. Why fill the screen with more interface? Sure, it's an improvement, but I wouldn't go overboard to make it happen. And windows are easier to ALT-TAB to imo.

Thanks for the insight Blackmon. Oh and happy forum birthday Shoushou. Been a member 2 years. And wow, three whole posts. Go figure it's a complaint about something.

So in my current play I've simmed ahead 13 years so far. I've gotten several new organizations that have formed while others have disappeared (expected). I'm seeing a couple of things regarding rankings that I was curious about.

1. For the new organizations signing new fighters, the rankings are not updating and I've played about three months...albeit no fights yet. First card comes up in late May. Does the 'no fights' have something to do with the rankings not updating? For comparison, the world rankings from the main screen updated at the beginning of the current week/month.

2. In the national rankings, they do not appear to take into consideration "current status". What I mean by this is that all the Top 25's are dominated by old guys with 35-40 fights or more. So a guy that is 28-14 overall is more valued in the rankings than a young up and comer that is, say, 7-0 but maybe heading for a title shot in his organization. Again, I've never played out this far ahead so not sure if that's how the game is supposed to respond but I always viewed those as "current" rankings, not "historical" rankings.

Personally, I don't want full screen for this game, not unless loading miraculously becomes instant. When I play WMMA, I prefer to be able to browse the web at the same time. I don't want to have to "exit the game" during long periods of fast advance.

<p>Just to be sure, I’m not here to complain only. Just not active on the forum, doesn’t make me a less active player <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I’ve spend literally hundreds of hours on WMMA3/4 playing and modding. It’s a great game, but I honestly think, no offence, that it’s a great game because it’s the only game on the market of MMA sim. If you compare it to other sports sim games (my reference being Football Manager), it’s actually 15 years behind in term of functionality, reality, simulation and graphics. So yeah, the good part is that there is room for improvement. </p><p> </p><p>

Thanks for the insight Blackman. Just to answer point by point :</p><p> </p><p>

- I didn’t know about Steam. But I honestly would be quite surprised if WMMA is one of the only games that generate less money while being on Steam. From my personal experience, I had 3 friends interested to buy the game that finally didn’t when they saw the No-Steam and Elicence system. Elicence is a ***** system by itself. You can of course deal with it properly if you are organized, but that’s annoying as ****.</p><p>

- I like text-sim simulation, I play it. I was simply referring that developing a text-sim game is not the same involvement (both time and skill) that developing a blockbuster game. Obviously, it’s a niche game and I don’t have the same expectations, but 35$ seems pretty high to me, especially with no major change announced yet (I’ll come back to that later in my post).</p><p>

- The language is one thing, the feature is another. If the language used does not permit such a basic feature, it’s a problem. Not only because of that feature, but because it will most likely be also problematic with other future potential features. At the end, don’t forget that on a sport sim-text based, the hard part is not the code, it’s the definition of the rules you want to code. But I doubt the code is actually quite hard to do, whichever langage used (don’t misunderstood me, I don’t mean there is no work on the code, but I think the hard and long part is not on the code, not denying the work itself). And considering the graphic side of WMMA4, let’s not act as it’s complicated to code and need years of work. Any decent dev (and I include Adam without a doubt in it) could translate his code to another for a project like that. Does he want it ? Probably not, that’s not interesting to do. Does he need it ? If most of you considering it useless, then he doesn’t either and I’m wrong here, I can live with that <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> By curiosity, which language is used for WMMA4 ?</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

I don’t want to be pessimistic, but usually, when a game editor do not announce major changes (whichever they are) from start, then you can expect only minor changes. Being honest, I did not follow the development phase of WMMA4. But there doesn’t seem to be major changes from WMMA3 to WMMA4 (or major upgrade), to the point some people are still playing WMMA3 claiming it’s the better game. The main change I’ve seen from WMMA3 to WMMA4 was the contract thing. But it’s not a major change literally, only a tweak that remove one annoying part of WMMA3.</p><p> </p><p>

And to be clear, by major change, that would be one of these for example :</p><p>

- Online mode multiplayer. There is already a Local Multiplayer, I doubt most of us use it, but online it would be a major update that would justify a new game by itself. I won’t dare explain how much interesting this game would be in multiplayer, I’m sure you understand by yourself.</p><p>

- Adding the option of seeing fight instead of reading it. Not saying it’s a need, I actually like the sim-text. But most simulation games (I often take Football Manager as an example) went to it at a time. And you still have the possibility to use text only. But that’s a real plus obviously. I’m just saying that change by itself would justify a new game.</p><p>

- Including Kickboxing, Muay Thai, BJJ, Grappling, whatever pro combat sport in the game as a possibility to use (I mean, ever a promotion or individual fights).</p><p>

- Improvement of AI in general. I suppose I’m not the only one who find the game extremely easy once you past the Regional point once you’ve figured how to play ? (and even the Regional part is not that hard).</p><p>

- Portability on Android. But that’s on me, I like playing such game on tablets in my couch.</p><p> </p><p>

And here are some minor change that would be interesting in order to make the game more complete and realistic :</p><p>

- Dealing with manager instead of fighters past a certain name value. You have to keep good relationship with those managers.</p><p>

- Social Media aspect. And in a more general way, the way to promote fighters and promotion with even fighting. Name value could change (because it change in reality) on these parameters.</p><p>

- More precise name value on location. I’ll talk about Europe (and I don’t know much if it’s extendable to others continents), but most popular fighters in Europe are only popular in their own country (to take exemples : Khalidov and Pudz would be huge draw in Poland, won’t draw peanuts outside it).</p><p>

- Money fights. I know the concept is not popular, but MMA world tend to go more and more to the boxing way : once you have leverage, and if your objective is your Career, you calculate risk and reward before accepting a fight.</p><p>

- Bring back one night tournaments, obvious reasons.</p><p>

- Multiple broadcast possibility, with part of card on TV, other part on PPV (just like UFC does as exemple).</p><p>

- Co-promotions with others promotions/roster. Just as Bellator/Bamma did recently.</p><p>

- Obviously, the faster the game is (loading time), the best it is. Right now, it feels long compared to others sims games (again, I take Football Manager as the reference).</p>

I'm not sure why it's suddenly come back into vogue on these forums, but a reminder that this is a family friendly board and swearing is not permitted. This is the third time in two days I've had to hand out warnings, let's not make this a recurring thing please.

<p>I don't get your point on Steam, game does not have to be free on Steam, you can select the price the way you want. Right now, WMMA3 can be buy on steam for 20$.</p><p> </p><p>

For the online and render thing, that was more of an exemple of what others text-sim games evolved to. Obviously, I'm not expecting it to come soon obviously, but the door should not be closed on it. I know the budget is not the same on GDS and FM, but the price of the game is not that different (you can buy keys for FM2017 for 20$).</p><p> </p><p>

If the loading time are also due to the langage, then it just highlight my earlier point of the langage being problematic for more than one feature.</p><p> </p><p>

PS : My bad on the swearing thing <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Will do an effort on it.</p>

If the new features/changes are good enough then I think $35 is an okay price since they only make new game once in while. TEW16 has many good improvements compared to the previous version after all. At least Adam is no where as shameless and greedy as Sega and their soccer manager games which they release every year at full price with only domestically changes and one useless feature.<img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/mad.png.69834f23b9a8bf290d98375f56f1c794.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> And do you know how many protection programs they put on soccer manager?

I wasn't a big fan of WMMA4 (mainly because it was so different from WMMA3 which I felt just needed a few tweaks), but I don't think the price is expensive at all. I judge value for money by the amount of time I put into them - not the graphics. I'm still playing WMMA3 almost every day. I'll buy every installment of WMMA that Adam makes because I want the game to keep on evolving and because he stands by his products. Customer service (sorting out bugs) is probably the best I've seen.

While we’ll be able convert databases from WMMA 4 to WMMA 5, we won’t be able to convert WMMA 4 save games to WMMA 5.

Hmm

Could we not export all the fighters/data from our current saves into the database and then convert the database?
