The year is 1997, Un-Break My Heart is dominating the radio, the nation awaits with bated breath for the debut of Speed 2: Cruise Control, and the wrestling landscape has been altered irrevocably by the opening of the Hollyweird Grappling Company by J.K Stallings.

The Clash of Titans

The burgeoning war between the brash new company headed by legends like Sam Strong and Rip Chord and the industry giant that made both those men household names is primed to either bring the stagnating artform to new heights or sunder it completely.

Meanwhile on the East Coast...

War Of The Five Kingdoms

The East Coast Wars, as they have come to be known, have brought rumblings into the underground scene:

The former behemoth, Philly Power Pro Wrestling, has found its roster gutted by HGC's pocketbook and struggling to find its way as it attempts to keep tradition alive against its rivals.

Rapid Pro Wrestling, an entirely different kind of product, attempts to keep its fun-loving family friendly image amid the rising tide of gratuitous violence brought on by the two remaining belligerents even as they cling to their allies in CZCW on the west coast.

The Xtreme Federation of Wrestling, a den of blood and guts hardcore bouts has always been a wild child on the indy scene but even in its infancy this promotion is trying to cut out the hearts of its rivals and find its place in history.

Danger and Violence Extreme, simultaneously the eldest and youngest of the four combatants, was previously ran by wrestling legend Buddy Gaines until he brought in hotshot manager and creative genius, Phil Vibert. Phil's creative touch brought DAVE to never before seen heights on a crimson tide that stripped away the veneer of tradition and stomped it into the muck until Gaines saw that his day was done and handed the promotion over to Vibert. Upon the dawn of 1997, DAVE was baptized into a new era headed by Vibert's secret weapon: Controversial SWF star Nemesis, fresh off a heated termination from the company that made his career. With this man at their head, many would consider DAVE's victory in the war a foregone conclusion, but a Death Star doesn't come cheap and will the homegrown stars of DAVE really be at ease with an outsider being given the King's treatment?

Oh and NYCW is there too, it's where the old people are, good for them.

From the corpse of the Texas Wrestling League lurched an engorged maggot, pumped full of a hearty diet of WrestleCrap and Steroids, Awesome Max Wrestling is regarded by many as a scam perpetrated by owner Trenton Evenrud on the sport of Pro Wrestling as a whole. With a roster of overlooked talent, steroidal lunatics, and out-and-out washouts that couldn't get booked on a flight let alone a wrestling show, Awesome Max Wrestling does less and less to justify its place on Media Giant C.A.N.N by the day.

Into all this mess steps a man with a dream, a man who knows his profession inside and out, a man who has braved the seas of the Atlantic to come to this imperiled promised land and bring forth life from the murk and mire that is the American Mid-South.

PREAMBLE:

Hi there, so after I realized my ZEN diary would never be fulfilling as the Industry/Economy roll at the start of the game sucked all the fun out for me I decided to try my hand at the 97 Mod for the Cverse with a company that's similar in make and model to my old WMD game with everyone's favorite Sheik at the helm (get owned, Mustafa).

There may be a bit of stylistic choices you may find jarring especially after the ZEN diary but I'd like to note for you that it's all part of the project itself, I'll be starting with minimalist write-ups of the events with scant details of the matches themselves beyond the bare bones the game gives me but as the AWF grows from Local to Small to Regional to slightly bigger Regional I will simulate the upgrades in production by increasing the details on the matches/angles/etc. Now prepare yourselves because this is gonna get nutty.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I imported gimmicks from the Sockpuppet, Mammoth, and Tverse Mods as well as Locations from the Tverse Mod and our logo was done by the inimitable Southside Hitman.

Carl Batch arrives with a mountain of a man who's chomping on a full box of donuts, Batch introduces him as Big Bubba Blubba the Hungry Behemoth and predicts victory over their enemies tonight - D

The young Hawaiian was the kind of exotic star the American people would enjoy, not a foreigner and possessing the laid back attitude that put a happy face upon a tiny bit of conquest around a century ago. The boy was a star in the making, certainly but he required seasoning that would turn him into the kind of hero the Americans would cheer for, seasoning that would come from defeat...but defeat at the same time could tarnish the boy, make his triumphs unreasonable...it was then that Sheiky had a wonderful idea!

Young Troy, so very American he wore it for his gear! The pinnacle of American youth and an easy ally for Jesse Christian and Kid Tiger Heart, the boy would be the future of the company that would bring America into a new golden age of wonderfully American wrestling! Which would be like normal American wrestling, but moreso! The simple fact was he was so All American he would be getting a new name! Sheiky knew the Americans would love it...

Unfortunately there was one man who would not be joining them on their journey to give America its second grand revolution:

Whatever it was, young Otto was out the door to make way for the likes of another, a man that would serve as the as a heel replacement...

Sheiky looked up from his notes and over to the phone on his desk, picking it up.

"Mr. Al-Avatar?"

"Marcus McKing, I'm the booker for PPPW."

"Ah, good evening, Mr. McKing, to what pleasure is this owed?"

"It's about our shared talent, Mr. Al-Avatar, Jesse Christian."

"Ah, young Christian, I hope he has said good things, yes?"

"That's neither here nor there, I'm afraid I have some bad news..."

As McKing spoke, Sheiky's eyes went wide...no...it could not be...

"Jesse was involved in a tag match at our last event and...a move went badly. He's sustained what the docs are calling a Compound Cranial Fracture and he's going to be out for a year and some change."

"...my god..."

"I thought it best to tell you as a professional courtesy, goodbye, Mr. Al-Avatar."

"Yes, yes, khoda hafez..."

Opening Match: Beau Bucks vs Hawaiian Ice

Beau Bucks (NYCW's Rich Money rebranded as a smug New York yuppie who likes to beat up hicks) makes short work of masked Jobber Hawaiian Ice, blitzing him with rakes and pokes before putting him away with a top rope elbow called the Dollars From Heaven. Bucks was clearly the better performer, playing his rich preppie character to a t while Ice didn't have much going for him beyond 'Loser'.

In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and non-existent crowd heat, Beau Bucks defeated Hawaiian Ice in 4:21 by pinfall with a Dollars From Heaven. - E-

Post-Match Promo:

Beau Bucks gets on the mic post-match and cuts a promo stating that he did not appreciate losing to Jesse Christian last month and flashed a hand full of cash saying that 'A few more of these woulda bought me a lot more than a busted skull', implying HE paid some thugs to injure Jesse Christian earlier this month (rather than the man actually being injured by an ill-timed spot). He's interrupted suddenly by Yankee Doodle Dandy playing to bring out CZCW's Troy Tornado (now known as All American Troy) who calls Bucks everything wrong with America and says he knows how to make a sissy like him squeal...in pain! They agree to face one another next month.

Alright promos from both men, not exactly sure what was with that pause in Troy's promo, sounded kinda...well y'know. - E

Jakki White Trash vs Sarah Scholes:

Not much more to this than two ladies wearing very little shaking their rears which...is kinda disturbing considering this was in a high school. Scholes is pretty green but easy on the eyes and sex appeal is pretty much the only thing Jakki has going for her beyond her ability to be a total b**** to the audience. Jakki dominates the match for the most part, cutting off a brief hope spot by Scholes by spitting 'beer' (though I swear that was a pepsi can) before nailing her with a double arm DDT for the pin and win.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Jakki White Trash defeated Sarah Scholes in 5:36 by pinfall with a Double Wide DDT after misting her eyes with Budweiser. - D

Post-Match Angle:

After the match Jakki attempts to dump more of her 'beer' on Sarah but a sudden appearance by Wanda Fish runs the Queen of the Trailer Park off. - C-

Colossus angle:

After Wanda helped Sarah to the back, Colossus came out accompanied by a Nicole Kiss of all people, who grabbed a mic and declared herself the girlfriend of Colossus (as opposed to the fifty or so other men she's the 'girlfriend' of) and said that Colossus would defeat two men faster than Big Bubba Blubba did last month. - D

Colossus vs Flex and Pecs:

I figured that Jakki had used soda earlier because of PTA concerns but it seems that the actual reason was that Colossus drank it all instead. Guy was wasted and it showed as he clumsily tossed Flex and Pecs (announced as 'The Body Busters') around the ring before finishing the match in swift and slovenly fashion with a drunken Chokebomb.

In a bout that had terrible wrestling and non-existent crowd heat, Colossus defeated The Body Busters in a Handicap match in 1:47 when Colossus defeated Pecs by pinfall with a Double Handed Choke Bomb. - E -

After Colossus' victory, Carl Batch and Big Bubba Blubba stormed out and demanded that Colossus admit that Big Bubba is bigger than him. Colossus and Nicole refuse and make a show of going after the manager and his big charge but the referee holds them apart. The crowd was hot for it despite this being an angle easily solved with a scale and a ruler... - D

Big Bubba Blubba vs Dan Billiot

A comedy squash match to calm the crowd, Billiot spent most of the match running away from Bubba who was doing his damndest to catch him much to Carl Batch's annoyance. The whole thing wasn't helped by Nicole Kiss hanging out at ringside and distracting Bubba with flirting looks and twirls of her skirt. Bubba finally gets his hands on Billiot and slams him with a powerslam which gets the pin for the former Elmer Kelly.

In a bout that had terrible wrestling and non-existent crowd heat, Big Bubba Blubba defeated Dan Billiot in 3:49 by pinfall with a Mountain Mover. During the match we also had Nicole Kiss distract Bubba Blubba. - E-

In a cat and dog contest, AMW jobber Mad Dog Mortimer clashes with Kid Tiger Heart for the AWF's top and only belt so far. Fans were behind underdog KTH which helped to hide that Mortimer's ring work was the dirt worst brawling this side of...well most of AMW's roster. KTH breaks out his impressive 450 splash after carrying the match to give Mortimer a career best match (which is pretty sad all things considered).

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Kid Tiger Heart defeated Mad Dog Mortimer in 9:50 by pinfall with a 450 Splash. Kid Tiger Heart makes defence number 1 of his AWF US Heavyweight title. - E

Post Match Angle:

After the bout KTH's celebration of his title defense is cut short by Sheik Ali Al-Avatar storming the ring and attacking the champ post-match. The Iranian beats down KTH brutally before digging into his singlet for what I thought was a fork but I swear to you was a spoon. No visible blood but I think that was what they were going for, still an alright angle.- D
