RELEASE NOTES

- Updated the top ~350 or so USA popularity for workers

- Updated Match Type ratios for every company to reflect real-life match types

- Updated Popularity settings for every company based on attendance/viewership

- Rescaling of ratings for all workers so they fit expected distribution similar to CVerse16x to enhance playability based on community feedback

- Updated titles and lineages for all companies through June 30, 2019

- Fleisch has gone and added about 350 tag team names that make a ton of sense by region and such so that you/the AI should have some better naming as teams are created once starting your save

- I went through and added moves and updated movesets for every G1 competitor (plus gave NJPW a once over in general) so if you want to give NJPW a proper run during G1 time, this release will be your jam.

- Added in some match types to fill some gaps in the defaults, will probably do more here for the full release on Tuesday

- ~300+ additional edits not listed below

WHAT THIS MOD IS

This is the official continuation of Fleisch's excellent "Real World Chronicles" current day mod. Fleisch will be releasing his final data update in August 2018, at which point I will be taking over the updating of his Real World Chronicles mod.

I would be remiss if I didn't give a gigantic thank you to Fleisch for the work he has put into this mod over the last 5 years. This game would not move near as many copies and give us all the hours of enjoyment it does without his work. I am happy that Dr_Avalanche and I were able to assist when we could in the later stages, but the basis of this mod is and always will be a testament to the effort Fleisch put in. I hope I speak on behalf of the community when I say THANK YOU!

Thank you for entrusting me with continuing your efforts and I hope to do you proud!

(Hopefully I don't screw it up too bad)

WHAT THIS MOD IS NOT

This is not a monthly release mod - This mod will continue in the Fleisch tradition of releasing every three months so that I can take some "bigger" swings on global updates to the mod.

This mod will not have every worker/company in existence - This mod will stick to ~2500 workers and ~60 companies so it stays performant and limits the amount of data to update each release.

For those looking for a monthly-release + every company mod, TheWho87 has a great monthly released mod here.

WHERE THIS MOD IS GOING

Two words: Data Driven

Going forward, this mod will be heavily modeled after DerekB's CVerse16x data in terms of worker stats and (to a lesser degree) popularity. This is done to ensure long-term playability of the mod and strike a fine line between overrating/underrating workers.

The idea here is to have a mod that "self-adjusts" based on what happens in real life as much as possible. There are ~2500 workers and ~60 promotions to update each release so I am looking to automate as much of the work as I can. I'm a web developer/data analyst by trade, so anything that I can automate or give me a sanity check on when ratings get out of whack should help keep the mod fresh for each update.

Worker stats will be modeled after how the game generates ratings and improvements for workers. You should see veterans with (in general) higher performance stats, rookies with lower respect ratings, etc... Again, the idea here is to give the game long-term playability.

I will post more specifically on this topic as we get closer to a first release.

You will likely see a little more Japanese/Joshi focus as well, as I'm a puro/joshi fan at heart (+ WWE).

COMMUNITY FEEDBACK

Polite, constructive feedback is welcome and appreciated. We have a great community on here and I am by no means the be-all-end-all expert on all-things wrestling. I'm happy to explain anything I can and will heavily incorporate community feedback into each release.

Feedback that is rude or not specific will be ignored. Saying "why is worker x so low? Drrrrrrrrrrrr" is not helpful in any way. Please be as specific as possible when reporting things you see as amiss in the mod.

Ratings Submission Form

So, something I've wanted to do in the lead up to the release is "crowd source" some skill ratings from all of you. If interested, you can fill out the form below and I will take the worker into account in the skill listed when rescaling the ratings for release.

Before you begin, if you want a more in-depth explanation of each stat, you should check out Derek_B's excellent mod making guide from 2013 HERE

The most important thing to note is that the skills should be reflective of how much each skill makes an audience CARE about what they are doing, not necessarily a willingness to do so. An example would be the Hardcore stat. Your standard CZW/BJW wrestler is more than willing to do hardcore/deathmatch matches (reflected in their personality in the liberal category) but shouldn't be at the level of a peak Mick Foley or Atsushi Onita in terms of making people CARE about what they are doing (FMW sold out 30,000+ seat stadiums for a reason).

I've added a quick summary of each stat below (some descriptions stolen liberally from Derek's guide), as well as a few "archetypes" of practitioners of each form. I've deliberately left out active workers in the archetype section (for the most part) as to not influence who you pick.

Feel free to fill out as many categories as you like (and add more than 5 if you want as well).

--- RATINGS FORM ---

Brawling:

Mostly old-school NWA/WWE Main Event style. This covers things like punches, any move with a "bomb" or "slam" in the name and standard suplexes.

Archetypes - "Stone Cold" era Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Stan Hansen

1)

2)

3)

4)

5)

Puroresu:

Kicks, knees, elbows. Head drops or moves with "driver" in the name. Anything that would fit in to peak AJPW/NOAH would fit here.

Archetypes - Kenta Kobashi, Toshiaki Kawada, Katsuyori Shibata

1)

2)

3)

4)

5)

Hardcore:

The fine art of weapons based matches. Onita-era FMW/ECW style.

Archetypes - Mick Foley, Atsushi Onita, return from 33rd retirement era Terry Funk

1)

2)

3)

4)

5)

Chain Wrestling:

This is all about chaining moves together in sequence so there is no down time.

Archetypes - Steamboat/Macho Man WM3, Meiko Satumura, peak William Regal

1)

2)

3)

4)

5)

Mat Wrestling:

Quite simply, this is about the ability to wrestle on the ground in a way that the crowd likes.

Archetypes - peak Kurt Angle, Zack Sabre Jr, Hideki Suzuki

1)

2)

3)

4)

5)

Submissions:

The most important point here is that they work towards a submission finish (i.e. "Working a body part"). A worker having a submission finish (i.e. Cena's STF) shouldn't necessitate a high rating, but rather someone who sets up a submission throughout the match.

Archetypes - Bret Hart, peak Kurt Angle, ROH-era Daniel Bryan

1)

2)

3)

4)

5)

Aerial:

This is all about high flying abilities… not just all the moves you can do (which could be covered by athleticism/flashiness) but how much the crowd can enjoy your matches as a result of what you can do

Archetypes - Manami Toyota, Kota Ibushi, peak Rey Mysterio

1)

2)

3)

4)

5)

Flashiness:

"Holy $%!^" moments in wrestling. Ricochet/Ospreay matches

Archetypes - Kota Ibushi, Ricochet, Will Ospreay

1)

2)

3)

4)

5)

Selling:

Making the impact of moves look good. It’s also about bringing in the effects of being hit by moves into the long term plan of a match.

Archetypes - Curt Hennig, Ricky Steamboat, RVD

I've released these in my other CVerse graphics thread, but wanted to put these up here for all as well.

This is a light grades only pack to use Observer style match ratings in your match grades. This will only work if you are using grades instead of numbers.

Enjoy!

Road To Initial Release - Journal 1 - Respect

So, as we draw closer to release, I will be posting these journal entries to give you all some insight into the "how/why" of worker ratings in the mod. Think of these as a deep-dive/expansion of Derek_B's excellent mod making guide he posted in the 2013 forum.

Anyway, on to Journal Entry #1 - Respect!

220px-Toshiaki_Kawada_and_Zeus_shaking_hands.jpg

Respect

The respect rating plays a direct role in how much the worker will ask for in contract negotiations (in addition to their popularity and if a figurehead). It also determines if a worker is considered a Young Lion or not, which plays a huge role in Japanese companies.

A Young Lion loses their YL status at D- respect (~35 rating). After leaving YL status a worker won't upset fans if they start to get pinfall victories.

Respect goes up 0.4 for every show worked when a worker has less than 25 respect (and ALWAYS starts at 0 for new workers who haven't worked a match).

It then goes up 0.3 for every show from 25 respect on until it reaches 53. It's capped at 53 and can only be improved beyond that with "good performances at important shows" (which I haven't quite cracked how the game translates).

You need ~70 matches to reach 25 respect and ~170 to hit the "soft cap" of 53.

When translating to a mod, remember the game does not "count" house show matches as actual ones for game stats. So, if you are creating someone from WWE, make sure you aren't counting house shows as "matches worked".

The scale this mod will be using is below (slightly adjusted for the additional 4 weeks real world workers get compared to in-game).

<p>Good luck man! </p><p>

Also, one thing that's bothered me about these: Could you include WCPW/Defiant Wrestling in the mod? (Perhaps as an Closed promotion for those who don't really care) I'd love to play them tbh considering I'm a huge What Culture fan. Can't wait to play your continuation in November!</p>

As I've already said prvately, I'm excited to see what you can bring to the mod for future updates on top of Fleisch's excellent work so far. Things are definitely going to be great. I suspect I'll have some free time in late August and most of September so if you are looking for someone to give some feedback on Impact Wrestling and Lucha Undeground (on top of WWE and NJPW, which I know you have covered), I could perhaps help out there. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>I'm crap when it comes to stats probably but I'll throw in roster updates or such when I can when it comes to Evolve and Progress as they are two of the promotions I tend to follow regularly so you won't have to spend much time tracking down who have been regulars on their shows lately.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm crap when it comes to stats probably but I'll throw in roster updates or such when I can when it comes to Evolve and Progress as they are two of the promotions I tend to follow regularly so you won't have to spend much time tracking down who have been regulars on their shows lately.

Speaking of which Matt Striker has replaced Rich Boccini as color commentator in MLW.

Also, If you need any help with worker stats (Particularly WWE/NXT - I don't watch much else aside from an episode or two of Impact every once and a while) I'd be willing to pitch in.

Awesome, would love the feedback! Really what I need in terms of feedback from people is what a person is best at. You don't need to say "Worker x needs to be 71 Selling" or anything goofy like that. Just saying "worker x is best at x, y, z" is extremely helpful to be able to ensure a worker is rated semi-correctly.

Actually that reminds me about something I wanted to touch on (pause for deep breath).

This is a text-simulation based on numbers of a psuedo-sport that is more art than science. Wrestling on the whole is a SUBJECTIVE entertainment endeavor and release for the people who watch it.

I WILL be biased (unintentionally) on certain workers (one of my TEW Dynasty roster overview entries start off with "There are good wrestlers. There are great wrestlers. And then there is Meiko Satomura"). I have never watched a wXw show in my life and don't plan to. Workers will be rated "wrong" in the eyes of some (maybe all). Again, taking a data perspective here I'm trying to mix community feedback, personal bias, and TEW game mechanics to come up with a mod that passes the "sniff" test for most people who play it.

The goal of this mod is not necessarily to get the "right" stats for each worker, but what is important is to get the "scale" of ratings right. WWE should not be popping A shows on RAW every week, this isn't 1999 Stone Cold era WWE. Jigsaw (my 2000's Chikara fan-self be damned) should not have ratings like Kenny Omega.

Scale is far more important than rating. Big E should not have a higher Aerial rating than Will Ospreay (and doesn't). To this point, Fleisch has actually done an outstanding job of keeping worker ratings not only reasonable, but actually in-line pretty-much with CVerse stats that the game ships with. There are exactly 0 workers in the mod with a A rating in Top Row (brawling, Puro, Submission, etc...) which allows your performance skills to show through.

Why this is important is quite frankly for playability first and foremost. The game generates ratings a certain way. My hope for this mod going forward is to continue down the path Fleisch has set out in that ratings matter, but it is far more macro than micro in terms of who is rated what.

All that to say, however you feel about your ability to "rate" workers your comments/feedback can always (and should) be accompanied with some color in your comments on things like "worker x is one of the best brawlers in the world today" which I can take in and scale appropriately to the rest of the game world.

I have very high hopes for what this mod will be able to produce from a ratings standpoint (and being a "data guy" I think I have a good plan on how to get there - which I won’t bore you with the “how” right now). I just think it's important to look at things from a 10,000 foot level as much as possible to make sure the game world is balanced appropriately.

So please, add your personal opinions on workers when appropriate. The feedback is not only appreciated but directly helps in the making sure the mod feels "right".

No word yet on whether or not Rich's wife has put the blame on Tony Schiavone's 80s mustache. :p

On a more serious note, I too am glad that this mod isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

A thank you to Fleisch for a great mod. This was my first real world mod I installed once I got back into TEW, and my favorite. I wish you southside much success continuing this mod.<img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Very very excited to see where you go with this Southside and from the times we've spoke I can't think of anybody better qualified. I'm also really happy that the mod has fallen to a massive joshi fan, excited to see what you do with that scene and quietly praying that one day Tokyo Joshi Pro makes it into the data <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
