PPV Names/Concepts

Recommended Posts

I am trying to vamp up my PPV schedule and I wanted some suggestions, not just names per say but concepts too. For example I would like to have a Survivor Series rip off on my schedule but I am not sure what to name it? Or a Royal Rumble rip off.

Anyone have any name ideas or different concept PPVs that you have came up with?

<p>For a Royal Rumble rip-off, mine is called Road to Glory because my season finale is called Glory Days. Other than that, I have "Christmas Cage Carnage" in December where the main feud matches are always cage matches.</p><p> </p><p>

The one I like the most is my Young Lion's Cup. I am not a Japanese company so Young Lion's don't hold the same weight as they would, but it's a great way to hold a tournament to let your younger workers get some meaningful singles matches, while also highlighting past winners. Most of my roster is fairly young so the majority of my top workers have at least competed in a Young Lion's Cup, so the theme of that event generally revolves around youth and a pride in it.</p><p> </p><p>

I don't know what size your promotion is, but setting up some sort of tournament is an easy gimmick PPV. Can be single elimination, round robin, however you want it. Set a tournament, theme the PPV after it, and try and wrap up the theme of the event in your non-tournament matches.</p>

<p>Ones I often use in my games:</p><p>

* Lord Of The Ring/King Of England (if playing as a UK company)/Rey De Reyes (if playing as a Mexican company) as a King Of The Ring type tournament/PPV</p><p>

* Brawl For All as my Royal Rumble knock-off match & PPV</p><p>

* Survivor as my Survivor Series type PPV with mostly team elimination matches</p>

<p>One of my favourite events/themes to run was stolen from an old e-fed I was part of and even managed to win one year. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/eek.png.0e09df00fa222c85760b9bc1700b5405.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> It was called "Blind Faith" and was a lethal lottery tag tournament. It was simple... a tag team tournament with everyone paired up randomly, with the winning team given a choice at the end... the chance to challenge for the tag titles together if they want OR face each other for the chance to face the World champion in singles. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

I've run this tournament a few times in older games with pretty good success. Obviously it takes a bit of planning but the possibilities are always good. You can use the random elements to keep certain people out, you can put a regular team together deliberately to have them look particularly strong in a tournament. You can obviously put rivals together in teams, opposing stables as partners, or regular tag partners facing off against each other in tournament matches. It creates a lot of fun dynamics and the random tag pairings can lead to some new teams forming if you manage to find positive chemistry too. Though there can be some trickiness for the face/heel alignments of course. <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

<p>In one of my old local to global games I had a show called Triple Threat.</p><p> </p><p>

It was the show right after my big finale show, basically every championship was booked in a Triple Threat match, and ironically it was my highest rated show every year.</p><p> </p><p>

So much so I decided to use it as my big kick off to a new year show. The show usually had a lot of title changes so it became rare for a champion or champions to retain their belts.</p>

I typically run a ppv called "world cup". I change it up a little every year but the idea is that I make teams with wrestlers from different areas. I usually do a USA team, Canada Team, Mexico Team, a European Team, and a Japanese Team. I usually have quite a few guys on loan or signed for short term deals. This make it seem like a special event because you are seeing guys that usually dont appear in your fed. Ive changed how I end the tournament depending on my mood/booking plans.

have just a 1 night tournament at the ppv with a 16 man tournament with representatives from different countries.

Have a mini 1 night tournament thats maybe a 4 vs 4 USA vs Canada, and a 4 vs 4 Europe vs Japan and then have a 4 vs 4 final elimination match

Just a big royal rumble with the winner claiming bragging rights for their country. I dont use this too often but it can be good for a filler ppv.

Or my favorite, run a series of both singles and tag matches leading up to the ppv where teams get points for things such as wins, draws, etc and then the top 2 teams have a big 5 vs 5 elimination tag match for the world cup.

One idea I like to run along with this PPV is holding it in different host countries each year. Typically I will host it in the country who won the event last year. Makes it a little special because normally I tend to just hold ppvs in the US.

Another fun PPV event I run is Lethal Lottery. I tend to do this with smaller feds that have smaller rosters. I assign every wrestler in my fed a number, and then i use a random number generator to pick matchups. My rule is that I can still pick winners and losers, but the actual matchups are left compeltely random. I also make it a rule that I have to book atleast 1 title change and 1 "major" upset. I dont have a set definition of what a major upset is but generally its a booking decision that i normally wouldnt make. The cons are that you are def not going to get the best possible match grades. You may def also get people pissed off by forcing an upset. The pros are that it freshens up your game, and you may find some excellent chemistry between opponents or as tag team partners.

Last idea I like to run often, is a fake invasion type ppv. This can be pulled off by using the trade/loan feature or if its for smaller feds, you can just sign people to a short term pay per appearance contract. Even though every wrestler on the card will be signed to you in one way or another, Kayfabe it would be a joint promotion type deal. My favorite thing to do with this is sign one of the guys to a longer contract like 8 or 9 events, and have him pull off a miracle upset and win your world title. Run a few angles in the coming weeks where one of your wrestlers attacks them outside or something like that, and then set up one more "your fed vs there fed" match to "win back" your world title.

I have two that I enjoy doing:

One is a rip off of something a indy promotion did.

I call it the Art of War. The match has three stages. Starts off as 4 vs 4, then the winning team gets a 2 vs 2 and then finally the team faces off in 1 on 1.

The other is the King of the World

The KotW is both a title and a tournament. The winner of the first KotW is crowned. The following year the tournament is held and the winner gets an opportunity to face the KotW or a world title shot.

<p>When I run the Rip Chord Invitational, it goes 6 Four Way matches, into 2 Triple Threat matches, into a singles match, so that can be a tournament format to try out.</p><p> </p><p>

No Escape is my event name for Cage matches a lot of the time.</p><p> </p><p>

Sole Survivor is all multi-man/team elimination matches.</p><p> </p><p>

I just had this idea, but Uprising starts with a battle royal, with the winner getting a title shot at the end of the show.</p>

<p>I finally remembered the other name I love for PPVs... </p><p> </p><p>

I think a lot of people like the show format for events like Cyber Sunday, with the fans choosing match stipulations and opponents. It was a lot of fun, it felt like it made the WWE listen to fans but the name was rubbish... and Taboo Tuesday was even worse. The show name I use, also stolen from elsewhere, was Popular Demand. It sums up what the show is all about and is catchy as hell. I can always mentally see the hype for the show and it has always been a fun one for me to book too. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

<p>Some ideas from various e-fed type things and diaries I've done:</p><p> </p><p>

Proxy Power- Every match has stakes, but everybody is represented by somebody else instead of fighting their own battles. Really goofy to book, especially in TEW, but you have lots of interesting potential angles- friends letting each other down by losing the match, strong champions that can't do anything about losing their titles, people competing for the honor of representing somebody...stuff like that.</p><p> </p><p>

Ultimatum- A tournament where every match, the winner is offered a prize. The prizes are somewhat tailored to the wrestler's situation and desires, and get better every round. The wrestler has a choice whether to continue in the tournament, or take the prize and let the loser take his place in the bracket.</p><p> </p><p>

Melee Mayhem- I run this more often as a title than a PPV, but could work for either. Matches are set up as usual, but I create a long list of stipulations, and pick the stipulation at random (or at "random" if you prefer.) kinda like the old Raw Roulette gimmick. For TEW I usually like to actually randomize the match type, and change the winner based on the stip chosen. (IE I might have my brawler go over in a last man standing match, but my technician might win a submission match)</p><p> </p><p>

I also enjoy Lethal Lottery and Cyber Sunday type setups!</p>

<p>I'm trying something new this year similar to the World Cup for soccer. </p><p> </p><p>

I have 3 brands and I'll have each tag team on a brand in a tournament to determine if they are 1 of the top 2 tag teams. The brand tag teams are decided by a Swiss-style tournament with 6 to 9 teams per brand. Then the top 2 from each brand will be in a single-elimination tournament determining the best tag team of the year who will then get a title shot (if they aren't already a champ).</p><p> </p><p>

I was trying to do something similar for a King of the Ring style outcome but I didn't enough time to get the matches that I wanted but some of these suggestions might work quite well.</p>
