AAA More Than Meets The Eye 2017

Nadia Snow Championship Celebration

Nadia-Snow.jpg

Nadia cut a good promo to kick off the show, bragging about not only winning the Femme Fatale Championship, but sending the fans’ favourite, J-Ro, packing to USPW in shame of how badly she was beaten by Nadia in the cage. Just as she was hitting her stride, she was interrupted by…

Suzanne-Brazzle.jpg

Suzanne Brazzle!

Suzi, just like any time she’s allowed to talk without a script, clearly enjoyed the freedom and did a great job of running down Nadia and challenged both Nadia and Selina to a tag match in tonight’s main event! Then, the situation broke down into a brawl, which had do be split up by security! What a strong start to the show, and boy was the crowd hot by the end of it!

Opening Match

Amber-Allen.jpgvs.jpgSteffi-Chee.jpg

Amber Allen vs Steffi Chee

The crowd was already hot, but now they were buzzing! Protégée and mentor went at it in a back-and-forth match that went nearly half an hour (26:40, to be precise) and featured some great counters of signature moves, and counters of counters, and counters of counters of counters! The match was a spectacular display of how well these two women know each other, but eventually Amber caught Steffi with a Northern Lights Suplex that she couldn’t counter for the pin.

grade-dminus.jpg

AAA.jpg

After the match, Amber helped Steffi up to her feet and the girls shook hands in a great sign of genuine mutual respect.

The story of this match? Patriotism. Lisa did a great job of getting the already-hot crowd even hotter with plenty of “USA!” chants, and Steph played the foreign villain without resorting to anything cliché or offensive – she was just the villain who happened to be foreign and up against a super-patriot. After a very respectable performance by Lisa in a surprisingly open match, Steph got the pin after a Slingshot DDT after 19:10.

Catherine-Quine.jpg

Ms Quine stood up from the commentary desk and grabbed a microphone.

Ms Quine introduced the audience to one of AAA’s new signings, who debuted last week by taking out J-Ro (which Ms Quine obviously said she disapproved of to the crowd), Gorgon!

Ava Anderson vs Gorgon

Wow. This was supposed to be simple: Gorgon dominates for about 10 minutes, wins with the Hydra Bomb. Unfortunately, towards the end, she completely mistimed a headbutt and it seemed to knock her out for a few seconds! That was scary, but fortunately she stirred fairly quickly, but Ava and Dwight called an audible, and Ava hit a Thunderous Kick (well, I say “hit” - she was a mile away because she did NOT want to get too snug, considering what had just happened) for a shock win!

Singles Match

Mary-Beth-Chase.jpgvs.jpgWendy-Anderson.jpg

Mary Beth Chase vs Wendy Anderson

This one went to plan, fortunately. We have a pretty big lack of “heels” on our roster currently (especially since turning Ellie and Talia recently), so we wanted to build up the ones we do have to make them as strong as possible. Mary attempted no headbutts, and suffered no injuries, so after a dominant 10:48, she made Wendy tap with the Boston Crab.

Grudge Match

Nadia-Snow.jpgSelina-Svelte.jpgvs.jpgSuzanne-Brazzle.jpgHouston-Handley.jpg

Nadia Snow & Selina Svelte vs Suzanne Brazzle & her mystery partner… Houston Handley!

Houston Handley, a patriotic Texan, joined Suzi to take on these newly aligned nefarious Canadians! This match followed a fairly standard tag team formula: the “faces” start hot, the “heels” cheat to gain control, the “heels” isolate one “face” until they manage to wriggle free and make the “hot tag,” the other “face” comes in like a house of fire and, in this case, picks up the win! Houston was the unlucky “face” being beaten down, and Suzi was the one who got to clean up at the end, putting Selina away with the Miracle Connection after 21:02!

Overall Show Rating:

grade-dminus.jpg

The mood after the show was… strange. This was the first major injury on one of our shows for, well, as long as I could remember. Ms Quine gave Gorgon a hug and packed her off in an ambulance for further examination at the hospital, but I think we all knew what was up – she had a concussion, and a pretty major one, by the looks of it. Ms Quine praised Nadia and Suzi for another great performance, then when Jessica got back with everyone’s drinks, made her announcement: this month, we would be trialling running a second show. She was honest with us, the company was slowly losing money, and she needed to turn that trend around ASAP, so she was going to try running two shows a month, with roughly half of us on each. The theory made sense to me: double (hopefully) the ticket sales, but still roughly the same cost in terms of talent. I was looking forward to this, and it seemed the others felt the same…

Glad to see this back. Liked the show. Will predict for the next one.

Thanks! :D

Ava Anderson is Perseus reborn slaying a Gorgon. But seriously that’s a tough loss losing someone as important as Gorgon after losing other main eventers to poaching. Will be interesting to see how you deal with this

Yeah, no way Ava's getting a mega push... right? ;)

AAA Violentine’s Day 2017

All was peaceful as I entered the Washington State Gymnasium backstage area, which was a nice change! No real issues at all in February, result! I took this opportunity to grab Nadia and Suzi for a chat.

Nadia-Snow.jpgSuzanne-Brazzle.jpg

I explained that I understood Suzi being upset over the injury at Queen Of The Ring, but that it didn’t keep her out of action for even one show, and Nadia and Suzi were our only active girls to have two matches together in our top 10 matches from 2016, so we needed them on the same page. Nadia apologised for hurting Suzi, and Suzi apologised for holding a grudge. I don’t think they’re suddenly going to be BFFs, but at least they’ve buried the hatchet!

After that situation was resolved, I headed over to the notice board to see what was happening, as Ms Quine had pretty much put this card together by herself…

I’d heard a rumbling on the internet that someone, somewhere thought Joanna and I could potentially make a fun tag team. I guess it was time to find out! And against the two girls with the surname “Anderson” - if they have good chemistry together, that pretty much writes itself, right?! They wouldn’t be the first wrestlers to pretend to be related…

AAA Violentine’s Day 2017

Pre-Show Match

Ava-Anderson.jpgWendy-Anderson.jpgvs.jpgJoanna-Silver.jpgSarah-Taylor.jpg

Ava Anderson & Wendy Anderson vs Joanna Silver & Sarah Taylor

Nothing much to say here. Neither team had good chemistry, but neither was particularly bad, either. “Team Anderson” won when Wendy pinned Joanna with a Flying Cross Body after 8:07. This was on the pre-show so our main audience (online and DVD viewers) don’t see that I wasn’t really injured by Demelza in our match…

Opening Interview Segment

Jim-Lou-Freebush-alt2.jpgTracy-Brendon.jpg

Jim Lou Freebush interviewing Tracy Brendon

This was Jim’s first venture away from the commentary table that I could remember, and he was asking the tough questions! Unfortunately, he seemed to overstep the mark when, after pointing out Tracy had been absent from more shows than she’d been on in 2016, she’d also only won one official match in AAA in that whole year! Tracy started to threaten Jim, backing him into a corner of the ring…

Ellie-May-Walton.jpg

Ellie May Walton rushed the ring!

Ellie spun Tracy around and a brawl began! Jim, wisely, ducked out of the ring, Dwight ran down and slid in, and we had an opening match!

AAA.jpg

Singles Match

Ellie-May-Walton.jpgvs.jpgTracy-Brendon.jpg

Ellie May Walton vs Tracy Brendon

This match told a great story, with Tracy taking every opportunity to head to the commentary table and get in Jim’s face, which ended up costing her when Ellie hit the Barn Stormer for the pinfall victory after 19:51.

grade-eplus.jpg

Singles Match

Christy-Higgins.jpgvs.jpgDemelza-Wade.jpg

Christy Higgins vs Demelza Wade

Demelza’s newfound vicious streak continued here, with her dominating Christy for 13:05 with very few moments resembling a comeback. The finish came, once again, when Dwight felt too much damage had been done to Demelza’s opponent.

grade-dminus.jpg

AAA.jpg

Singles Match

Devils-Daughter.jpgvs.jpgTalia-Quinzel.jpg

Devil’s Daughter vs Talia Quinzel

This match was a lot more even than the one that went before, with DD actually getting a lot of offence in, trying to wear Talia down and keep control of the pace of the match. However, it wasn’t meant to be, and Talia came back to hit Spinal Trauma for the pin after 17:58.

grade-eplus.jpg

AAA.jpg

Singles Match

Houston-Handley.jpgvs.jpgMary-Beth-Chase.jpg

Houston Handley vs Mary Beth Chase

This was another well-told story that really brought the crowd back into the show after the last match calmed them a little. In this match, Mary dominated, but couldn’t put Handley away, leading to her getting more and more frustrated. The breaking point came when Handley grabbed the bottom rope to break up Mary’s patented Boston Crab, and Mary just went into a blind rage, eventually leaving Dwight no option but to disqualify her at the 13:21 mark.

AAA Tag Team Championship Rematch

AAA-Tag.jpg

Debbie-Rose.jpgKate-Lilly.jpgvs.jpgJessica-Bunny.jpgKatherine-Goodlooks.jpg

Debbie Rose & Kate Lilly vs Jessica Bunny & Katherine Goodlooks ©

The only title match on the show, this lived up to the pressure, as Lilly & Rose and Good Lookin’ Bunny constructed the best match of the night over the course of 33:47! The ending was eerily similar to their previous match, with Jessica picking up the win over Debbie, as Kate looked on, frustrated.

grade-d.jpg

AAA.jpg

After the match, Debbie and Kate are left in the ring. They have an argument over the loss, with Kate blaming Debbie for taking the pin, but Debbie blaming Kate for not breaking it up. Fortunately, cooler heads prevail, and they leave up the ramp together.

Ms Quine’s post-show speech featured her praising Debbie and Kate for great performances, and giving Ellie a hug as she clearly got a little emotional over the segment with Jim.
