August was a huge month for the world of pro-wrestling. It was confirmed that SOTBPW megastar Valiant had broken his leg during the Main Event of LuchaMania 5. Valiant had been challenging El Fuerza for his Compeonato del Mundo title, but was now facing 6 months out of action. SOTBPW responded by making a slew of new signings, including James Prudence, Luis Montero Jr. and resigning Demon Seed – who made a one off appearance for NYCW in 2016. Back in the US, the major news was Des Davids defection back to USPW from the SWF. Many saw this move as a barometer of the power shift between the two companies. Back in 2011 Davids had jumped from USPW to the SWF in a big money deal, but here we were six years later and the tag team specialist had made the jump back. Davids is yet to re-debut for the promotion, but it will be interesting to see where he slots into the USPW landscape in 2017.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

I reflected back on 'Gang Wars' with mixed emotions. The show was nominatively our biggest show of the year, and our gamble to hire a bigger arena had paid off as we drew 2,900 to the show – a fact that saw us make $8,376 profit for the month! However, quality wise the show was our worst reviewed show in over a year. The main reason for that was undeniably the Main Event. BBS and Frank had been the right match to go on last, we had been building towards it for a year and the storyline was hot with the fans... but watching the match, it hit me that Honest Frank's body had given out on him. He just wasn't able to keep up anymore. As much as Frank was still over with the fans, it was clear that it was time to transition him into a new role as manager and limite his time in the ring even more than we had been. The poor rating of 'Gang Wars' had the added impact of meaning that we came 2nd in the Regional Battle for July! This had not gone down well with Larry. His relationship with Mitch Naess had deteriorated even further since my stunt of stealing Ernest Youngman to put over my champion for the night, so losing to them in any form was now entirely unacceptable. I felt bad for the kid – he had born the brunt of Naess' anger so far, as in PSW's two shows since his one off appearance for us he had dropped his title to Madman Boone and then been jobbed out to Grandmaster Phunk. The word was that Naess was still hugely pissed off about it, and with Larry not doing anything to help the situation I couldn't help but wonder what Naess and PSW's next move would be.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

While I was still recovering from the disappointment of 'Gang Wars' and the Regional Battle, I received an email with more bad news from up in Canada. 4C had gone rogue again and at their last show </div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Phillipe LaGrenier had beaten Donnie J to become COTT World Heavyweight Champion</strong></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">! I had agreed with Cliff and Sam that Art would be beating Donnie for the title at our next show, that was the plan! While it was true that Philippe also worked for me, he worked as a Heel and he was a long way down the pecking order compared to Art. This was a disaster, and threw all of my plans for Art Reed for the next six months out of the window. I had a very angry phonecall with Cliff and Sam about 4C – they had now taken the COTT World Title and World Tag Team Titles without consulting the committee. I slammed the phone down and looked down at my booking notes for 'Uptown Beatdown'. How was I going to fix this one?</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

NYCW is excited to announce that the COTT World Heavyweight Championship will be returning to New York for the first time since November 2016. Two weeks ago at 4C's Iron Man Challenge, Philippe LaGrenier shocked the world when he defeated Donnie J to end the CZCW stars nine month reign as champion. With Donnie J now owed a rematch and Art Reed having earned his shot by defeating Steve Flash at 'Big Apple Brawl', the COTT committee have announced that the previousluy advertised one on one contest will now be a Triple Threat Main Event! As new COTT World Heavyweight Champion Philippe LaGrenier makes his first title defence against former champion Donnie J & number one contender “The Pure Athlete” Art Reed.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Last month at 'Gang Wars', The Ring Generals earned the biggest win of their Open Challenge so far as they defeated The Can-Am Blondes. This month it is the turn of former IPW Tag Team Champions The Celtic Axis (Stanley Axis and Lug Phelan) to step up. The Ring Generals are now undefeated in the thirteen months since they started this challenge. Are Axis & Phelan the men who can break the streak and earn themselves guaranteed NYCW contracts?</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Elsewhere on the card @miller_fforde returns to action for the first time since the injury he received at the hands of Man Mountain Cahill at 'Big Apple Brawl'. He faces off against the dangerous Prisoner No. 6 in a match arranged by the prisoners therapist, Doctor Michael O'Haire. After the criticism Steve Flash aimed at O'Haire last month, claiming that O'Haire had put Fforde's physical health at risk by pairing him consistently against the biggest men on NYCW's roster, it will be interesting to hear the doctors response as his patient steps into the ring with Fforde on his return.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Be sure to join us for all of this action and more, including Hugh Ancrie looking for revenge against Joffy Laine after “The Jackhammer” eliminated Ancrie from their 'Gang Wars' 3 on 3 Elimination match. Steve Flash and Riley McManus look to develop their newly formed alliance against the experienced Old School Principals, and Empire Champion Bulldozer Brandon Smith, “The Dark Reaper” Scythe and Man Mountain Cahill will also make appearances on the card.</div></div></div><p>

the situation might be used to start a push for Philippe, but considering the narrative framed this as 4C going into business for themselves, I feel like reed's gonna take it.</p><p> </p><p>

I really want to go with animal here, but I'm pretty sure that's just my fondness for 'em, don't think the Animal will beat the mountain.</p>

<p>That is one thing I wish could be more controlled, the alliance title changes. Maybe it will be addressed in the new game. As for now, yes a story could be made that to have Flash win the belt and then drop it the next month. Reed could have “the flu” or some bug that keeps him out.</p><p> </p><p>

Edit- looks like you have a plan in place. I was thinking triple threat too but looking at the Reed vs Flash match there was no questionable issue or shenanigans to use to do it.</p><p> </p><p>

So this looks like a good solution to the issue, but now what do you do. Having Phillippe retain doesn’t seem like a good choice. You revealed the plan was for Reed to win, so does he actually do it here? You could have Donnie J regain and come back next month to drop it in a single rematch to Reed next month. The drama of Reed screaming and yelling how he was screwed would be entertaining. I’m going with Reed not being a part of the decision and screaming about it to get a rematch in singles action that he was promised.</p><p> </p><p>

Don’t see it, not with this challenger. The question is how does the challenge end so we can get the a RG’s in a title match. </p><p> </p><p>

Steve Flash & Riley McManus [vs] Old School Principals (Rick Sanders & The Masked Mauler)

'Uptown Beatdown' opens with two men who appeared to form an alliance against Doctor O'Haire and his patient Prisoner No. 6 last month at 'Gang Wars' when Steve Flash saved Riley McManus from a post-match attack. The outlook for their future alliance looked incredibly positive here, as Steve Flash and Riley McManus seemed gel incredibly easily as a team and looked more in sync than even their opponents Old School Principals who have been teaming together for years. This allowed the babyfaces to control most of the match up, and it was no surprise when Steve Flash was able to hit the Flash Bang on Rick Sanders and Riley McManus was in position to stop The Masked Mauler from breaking up the pin.

Rating: C-

Winners:
Steve Flash & Riley McManus

Finish:
Pinfall (Flash Bang)

Notes: Steve Flash & Riley McManus have excellent chemistry when teaming together.

Rock Downpour: “An incredibly impressive debut as a tag team for Steve Flash & Riley McManus! This can only be positive for their joint mission to stop Doctor O'Haire and his prisoner!”

Ernie Turner: “It's very rare to see a team gel as quickly as that on debut. They outmanouvered Rick Sanders & The Masked Mauler at times, and those two have been teaming together for a decade!”

The Celtic Axis (Stanley Axis & Lug Phelan) [vs] The Ring Generals (Dean Waldorf & Marv Statler) w/ Haley Buck

The Ring Generals Open Challenge Match

Steve Flash and Riley McManus are deep in conversation as they head to the back after their victory. As they reach the curtain they are passed by Haley Buck and her clients, The Ring Generals. Riley McManus stops as they push through the curtain, and looks back at Haley Buck deep in thought. He motions to Flash and the two fall back into a deep conversation as they push through the curtain to the back.

Back in the ring, Haley Buck has a microhone and is hyping her clients victory over The Can-Am Blondes last month at 'Gang Wars'. She referred to the Can-Am Blondes as one of the most decorated tag teams of the past decade, and stated that her clients victory last month only served to prove once and for all that they were THE premier tag team in wrestling today. Buck continued that after their victory last month it didn't matter who came out to answer their Open Challenge this month, her clients would do what they've been doing for the past thirteen months – those guaranteed were safe. This drew out this months challengers – The Celtic Axis. Stanley Axis and Lug Phelan are former IPW Tag Team Champions, with Stanley Axis currently out of work and looking to land a regular gig by winning those guaranteed contracts!

The Celtic Axis may be former IPW Tag Team Champions, but they are still a very green tag team – only teaming together on two previous occassions (The night they won the titles and the night they lost them). The Ring Generals by contrast have been teaming together for nearly twelve years. This experience difference was clear throughout the match, as The Ring Generals continued to create two on one scenarios as they moved their opponents around the ring at will. The Celtic Axis fought hard, but could do nothing to stop The Ring Generals delivering their Wheelbarrow Bomb to Lug Phelan to extend their undefeated streak in their Open Challenge to thirteen months.

Post-match Haley Buck got back on the mic and reminded prospective challengers that not only did the Open Challenge offer them the chance to measure themselves against THE premier tag team in wrestling today, there were also TWO guaranteed one year NYCW contracts up for grabs as well. So she begged a team 'worthy' of facing her clients to step up to the plate next month.

Rating: C-

Winners:
The Ring Generals

Finish:
Pinfall (Wheelbarrow Bomb)

Notes: Stanley Axis was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

</div>

Rock Downpour: “Stanley Axis and Lug Phelan may have tasted championship success over in IPW, but The Ring Generals proved too much for them tonight!”

Ernie Turner: “It's been over a year since they started this Open Challenge. With the performances they are putting in, you've got to wonder who can come in and win those guaranteed contracts!”

A Change In The Landscape

Involved: Art Reed

Art Reed is out next to talk about the change to the advertised Main Event for the evening. “The Pure Athlete” is not happy. He reminds the crowd that at 'Uptown Beatdown' he earned a one-on-one title match with the COTT World Heavyweight Champion. Now after what happened two weeks ago in Canada, he finds himself in a Triple Threat match where he doesn't even have to be involved in the finish. Reed asks how that is fair. Could Donnie J's rematch not have waited until a CZCW show, why does it have to fall on the night of Art Reed's shot? “The Pure Athlete” states that the odds have been stacked against him tonight, but that it doesn't matter if you put one man in front of him or two... once the Dread Lock is applied, everybody taps!

Ernie Turner: “Art Reed not happy with the change to tonight's advertised card.”

Rock Downpour: “I think the title change caught us all off guard Ernie! But the fans are ultimately the winners here - what a Main Event we have in store tonight!”

Max Mayhem[vs] “The Dark Reaper” Scythe w/ Honest Frank

On the back of his loss last month at 'Gang Wars', a deeply unhappy looking Honest Frank leads his “Dark Reaper” down to the ring. Frank barks orders at the demon, who threw the unfortunate Max Mayhem around the ring. Scythe dominated his Cruiserweight opponent for a few minutes, before delivering a destructive Chokeslam as the explanation point for the win.

Rating: D

Winner:
“The Dark Reaper” Scythe

Finish:
Pinfall (Chokeslam)

Rock Downpour: “Honest Frank's “Reaper” continues to cut through the NYCW roster. The demon somehow seemed even more destructive this month!”

Ernie Turner: “Scythe seemed to feed on the anger of his handler Honest Frank... oh no, it doesn't look like he's done Rocky!”

Releasing The Demon!

Involved: Honest Frank, Scythe & Bulldozer Brandon Smith

The bell may have rung, but Honest Frank and Scythe were far from done with Max Mayhem as Frank slid his “Dark Reaper's” scythe into the ring. The demon hauled Max Mayhem back to his feet, and began to choke him out with the handle of his scythe. Mayhem flailed around wildly, but was easily subdued by Scythe and looked to be on the verge of passing out.

The crowd popped as NYCW Empire Champion came charging down to the ring. Honest Frank saw the Bulldozer coming, and quickly bailed from the ring. His demon however stood his ground, releasing Mayhem from his choke grip as the Cruiserweight crumpled to the mat. Bulldozer Brandon Smith slid into the ring, and placed himself between Mayhem and the “Dark Reaper”. The two big men stood tall and engaged in an intense stare down. The demon banged his scythe two times against the mat, before slowly leaving the ring to join Honest Frank as he made his way to the back. Frank called back to Smith that this was just the first of his Reaper's 'sacrifices', and that was just a taste of what was to come!

Rock Downpour: “That was painful to watch... thank goodness for Brandon Smith!”

Ernie Turner: “The “Dark Reaper” is looking more and more dangerous every week, and what did Frank mean by 'that was just a taste of what's to come'?”

Rock Downpour: “I shudder to think Ernie, I shudder to think.”

Animal Harker [vs]Man Mountain Cahill

An entertaining brawl here, as the muscular Animal Harker went toe to toe with the Man Mountain in the early stages of this one. Harker has made a name for himself both in NYCW and in Japan as a man who can take a beating, and he needed to draw on all of his resilience here to stay in the match. Having soaked up some big blows from Cahill, Harker utilised the skills he had learned in Japan to deliver stiff shots to rock his Big Heavyweight opponent. This served only to further anger the already pissed off Man Mountain, as he delivered a brutal looking Headbutt to take Harker to the mat. This would have been enough to finish off most men, but Harker was somehow able to kick out at two – leading to Ernie Turner speculating on commentary that Harker's head was in fact hollow. Harker tried to rally back but the damage was done, and Man Mountain Cahill was able to deliver the Mountain Topper for a hard fought victory.

Rating: C-

Winner:
Man Mountain Cahill

Finish:
Pinfall (Mountain Topper)

Ernie Turner: “The Man Mountain gets the win, but he didn't have things his own way tonight Rocky!”

Rock Downpour: “Animal Harker showed he can really take a beating and keep coming back for more! He pushed Cahill all the way tonight.”

Once A Bully...

Involved: Man Mountain Cahill & Animal Harker

Man Mountain Cahill's arm was raised in victory by referee Matthew White, but the Man Mountain did not look happy at how hard he was made to work by his opponent tonight. Cahill roughly shoved the referee aside and hauled Animal Harker back to his feet to deliver a second Mountain Topper. Harker had put up a good fight in the match, but he was exhausted and couldn't fight off his larger opponent. Cahill stood menacingly over his fallen opponent, but instead of continuing his attack he just let out his big belly laugh before heading to the back.

Segment Rating: B

Rock Downpour: “We shouldn't be surprised, barely a show goes by without the Man Mountain assaulting his opponent after their match. Even being banned by the NYCW booking committee last show doesn't seem to have put him off!”

Ernie Turner: “The man's a bully Rocky, simple as that...”

“The Jackhammer” Joffy Laine [vs] Hugh Ancrie

This was a fantastic back and forth contest between two young talents who were both looking to make a splash and kickstart their NYCW career. This was Joffy Laine's first singles outing since arriving in New York, while Hugh Ancrie was looking for some revenge after “The Jackhammer” eliminated Ancrie from the Gang Wars 3 vs 3 elimination match last month.

Hugh Ancrie controlled the early stages of the match, as he showcased his mat wrestling skills to keep Laine pinned to the mat. The crowd got behind the charismatic Laine as he struggled to break free from the mat wrestling prowess of his Canadian opponent. Laine was eventually able to battle back to his feet, but Ancrie retained control of his opponent in a Side Headlock. Laine struggled and dug an elbow into the ribs of his opponent, and another... and suddenly he had some seperation and “The Jackhammer” came to life. A monsterous right hand rocked Ancrie, as the Canadian felt the immense striking power of “The Jackhammer” as Lain unloaded before whipping Ancrie to the corner. Climbing to the second rope, “The Jackhammer” delivered blow after blow on his opponent, the crowd counting along with referee Matthew White's ten count. A dazed Ancrie staggered back into the middle of the ring, right into a Death Spiral from Joffy Laine and that was all she wrote.

Rating: D

Winner:
Joffy Laine

Finish:
Pinfall (Death Spiral)

Rock Downpour: “A big win for Joffy Laine in his first singles contest in NYCW. This boy looks like he has a big future ahead of him!”

Ernie Turner: “Hugh Ancrie looked good out there too, but “The Jackhammer” just hits so hard! I think championship gold is in the future of both of these men!”

Brooklyn's Finest (Freedom Eagle & Hawkeye Calhoun) [vs] The Boys From Yukon (Howlin' Mad Mort & Whitehorse Whittaker) w/ Doctor O'Haire

The Boys Of Yukon are joined at ringside for this non-title bout by their therapist Doctor O'Haire (who once again carries their NYCW Tag Team Title Belts over each shoulder – much to the annoyance of Rock Downpour on commentary) and his patient Prisoner No. 6. The group cut an imposing scene for the fun loving babyfaces, although Hawkeye Calhoun seems more interested in posing for selfies with fans.

The match itself was nothing more than a squash, with the lumberjacks overpowering Hawkeye Calhoun from the first bell. The muscular Fredom Eagle put up more of a fight, but eventually the numbers game was just too much. The match was barely five minutes old when The Boys Of Yukon were able to deliver their finishing move Tiiiiiiiiiiimber to Hawkeye Calhoun, and this one was over.

Rating: E+

Winners:
The Boys From Yukon

Finish:
Pinfall (Tiiiiiiiiiiimber)

Rock Downpour: “Another impressive performance from the NYCW Tag Team Champions, who are now unbeaten in tag team action in sixteen months!

Ernie Turner: “Their turnaround in fortunes since employing the services of Doctor O'Haire is phenomenol. The only question surrounding their reign now is who is left to challenge them? Over the past year they've run through every team in New York...”

New Challengers?

Involved: The Boys From Yukon & Doctor O'Haire

Following The Boys From Yukon's easy victory, they are joined in the ring by their therapis Doctor O'Haire. The doctor has a microphone, and stands between his two powerhouse clients as he delivers his message. O'Haire reminds everyone that prior to eliciting his services, The Boys From Yukon were on a nine month losing streak. They had communication issues that were holding back their obvious talent. However, after only a month of working with the Doctor they were able to break their losing streak, and now, since starting work with O'Haire, The Boys Of Yukon had been NYCW Tag Team Champions for eleven months and were undefeated in tag team action for sixteen months. They had been so successful in fact that they had run through the entire tag team division in NYCW... and yet they still didn't get the respect that they deserve!

O'Haire tells the crowd that despite his clients achievements, all he hears is that The Ring Generals are the best team in New York. O'Haire says he respects The Ring Generals and their open challenge – they too are unbeaten in over a year, but it was time for his clients to get the respect that they deserve! So O'Haire announces that The Boys Of Yukon are putting out a challenge! They are willing to put their NYCW Tag Team Titles on the line to prove once and for all that they are the best team in New York! O'Haire says that last month The Ring Generals beat the legendary Can-Am Blondes, so The Boys From Yukon are sending a message to The Natural and Owen Love. Get your asses back down here from Canada to face his clients, or The Boys From Yukon may have to make a little trip back to their home country to drag your asses down here!

Segment Rating: C+

Rock Downpour: “The Boys From Yukon challenge The Can-Am Blondes for the NYCW Tag Team Titles next month at 'Carnage In Queens'! What a match that would be!”

Ernie Turner: “Three time NOTBPW World Tag Team Champions and three times winners of the Ed Henson Memorial Tag Team Cup, The Can-Am Blondes are legends of this business!”

Rock Downpour: “They were cheated out of guaranteed contracts here by Haley Buck, so I can't wait to see them back in New York!”

@miller_fforde [vs] Prisoner No. 6 w/ Doctor O'Haire

Doctor O'Harie and his prisoner stayed out, as Prisoner No. 6 was in action next against the returning @miller_fforde. The timing of this match was interesting, on the back of Steve Flash's accusation that Doctor O'Haire's constant 'assistance' in pairing the young Instagrammer with the largest opponents possible had led to @miller_fforde's injury. For his part Fforde didn't seem to hold any grudge against Doctor O'Haire, and looked excited to be facing off against Prisoner No. 6 for a second time.

It was footage of Prisoner No. 6 destroying Fforde in their first match that had kickstarted the upsurge in followers on @miller_fforde's insta acount, so you can bet that Fforde still had his Go-Pro strapped around his head on his return from injury. Their second match followed a similar pattern, as the Instagrammer's attacks seemed to bounce off his much larger opponent. While Prisoner No. 6 looked as destructive as normal, on the orders of his therapist Doctor O'Haire he didn't drag this one out too much and delivered the Jail Break fairly promptly to secure an impressive victory.

Rating: C

Winner:
Prisoner No. 6

Finish:
Pinfall (Jail Break)

</div>

Ernie Turner: “You've got to admire the dedication @miller_fforde has to his instagram feed, but sometimes you've just got to pick on someone your own size!”

Rock Downpour: “I still find it hard to believe that people want to watch the poor kid getting destroyed by these monsters week in, week out. And from his point of view!”

Ernie Turner: “The internets a weird place Rocky...”

Rock Downpour: “So you keep saying. I'd just like to meet one of the people watching this footage he's getting from that Go-Pro he wears on his head and ask them why...”

Who Are You To Tell Him What To Do?

Involved: Prisoner No. 6, Doctor O'Haire & @miller_fforde

Post-match, in a change of pace for Doctor O'Haire and his prisoner, instead of jumping into a beatdown of an opponent Doctor O'Haire instead grabbed a microphone and helped @miller_fforde back to his feet and put an arm around his shoulders while Prisoner No. 6 stood menacingly behind him. The Doctor said that he wanted to address some of the unfounded accusations that were thrown his way last month by Steve Flash, particularly the accusation that he was in some way doing this young man (@miller_fforde) some kind of disservice by arranging these matches for him.

Turning to Fforde, O'Haire asked him if he had any issue with the opponents the Doctor had picked out for him. The young instagrammer said he did not. The Doctor then asked Fforde if he had in fact asked Doctor O'Haire to find the biggest, baddest opponents that he could for him. The young instagrammer said that he had. O'Haire then continued by asking if Fforde held any bad blood towards O'Haire for what had happened with Man Mountain Cahill. The young Instagrammer said he did not.

Satisfied, O'Haire thanked @miller_fforde and began to address Steve Flash again. He told Flash that this was all just a big misunderstanding, a new generation that Flash was clearly too old to understand. The Doctor said that to these kids the single most important thing to them, their only measure of success, was the number of followers they had on their Instagram. O'Haire turned to @miller_fforde support, and the youngster nodded along in agreement. O'Haire said that he didn't understand Instagram, but he did understand the way people think! That understanding had allowed him to help Fforde grow his Instagram following from next to nothing to where it was today. If Miller Fforde was happy with his methods, then who was Steve Flash to tell him what's best for him?

O'Haire concluded by saying that he was happy to leave this simple misunderstanding in the past... as long as Steve Flash apologised to both Doctor O'Haire and his patient Prisoner No. 6 for what he said last month. O'Haire said he was ready to listen to Flash's apology as soon as he was ready to give it, and that he and his prisoner would be waiting to hear it.

Segment Rating: C+

Rock Downpour: “Doctor O'Haire wants Steve Flash to apologise for being the one to finally call him out on all of his antics over the past year and a half? Is he mad?”

Ernie Turner: “Doctor O'Haire seems to have his own view on morality Rocky... the question now is will Steve Flash apologise?”

Rock Downpour: “I don't see why he should...”

Ernie Turner: “With a re-focused Prisoner No. 6 backing him up, I'd apologise just to stay out of Doctor O'Haire's bad books!”

Donnie J [vs] Art Reed [vs] Philippe LaGrenier ©

COTT World Heavyweight Championship

Next up was our Triple Threat main event, which saw the COTT World Heavyweight Championship return to New York for the first time since November 2016. Donnie J and Philippe LaGrenier seemed to have identified Art Reed and his Dread Lock as the main danger in this match, as they formed an alliance early on in an attempt to nullify the threat from “The Pure Athlete”. However LaGrenier defeated Donnie J to become World Champion only two weeks ago, so it was always going to be an uneasy alliance – and the moment Donnie J dumped Art Reed over the top rope to the outside, LaGrenier looked to capatalise by rolling up the CZCW star from behind and earn himself a two count.

The match then went back and forth, as LaGrenier tried to use his brawling style to ground his high flying Cruiserweight opponent. However even at the age of 39 Donnie J still moved around the ring as well as he did fifteen years ago, and as he found his groove he was able to keep the World Heavyweight Champion off balance and began to dictate the pace of the match. Donnie J was really on a role, and headed up to the top rope following a Snap Suplex to LaGrenier. The World Champion looked in real trouble as Donnie J took flight from the top rope, only for Art Reed to appear from nowhere and deliver a Super Kick to the mid-flight Donnie J to send the CZCW star crashing through the ropes to the outside.

Philippe LaGrenier struggled back to his feet and found himself one-on-one with an ultra focused looking Art Reed. LaGrenier looked to brawl with “The Pure Athlete”, but Reed drew on his time in Japan to deliver some fearsome, stiff looking strikes to rock the World Champion. LaGrenier was getting desperate now and began throwing wild right hands, a missed right hook created enough of an opening for “The Pure Athlete” to deliver a Super Kick that looked to have knocked LaGrenier clean out. Reed looked to make the cover, but was jumped from behind by a returning Donnie J! The CZCW star pounded away at Reed with right hands, forcing Reed back against the ropes. Donnie J charged at Reed, who was able to pull the ropes down to send Donnie J crashing to the outside. This left Reed one-on-one once again with a recovering LaGrenier. Sensing this was his moment, “The Pure Athlete” didn't waste a second and locked in his feared Dread Lock! The World Champion was in trouble in the middle of the ring and Donnie J was nowhere to be seen. LaGrenier struggled for a few seconds, but ultimately couldn't hold on long enough for Donnie J to recover and had to tap out.

Rating: C

Winner:
Art Reed

Finish:
Submission (Dread Lock)

Notes: Art Reed wins the COTT World Heavyweight title.

Art Reed carried the match in terms of in-ring performance. Philippe LaGrenier was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

</div>

Rock Downpour: “LaGrenier taps, his reign is cut short after just two weeks with the gold! But for Art Reed a sixteen year wait is over. “The Pure Athlete” is your new World Heavyweight Champion!”

Ernie Turner: “And I'm sure he'll have a lot to say about it!”

Rock Downpour: “No doubt! Be sure to join us next month at 'Carnage in Queens' to find out!”

Overall Rating: C-

Really a good show and moved a lot of things forward. My overthinking it cost me the predictions.

I call for Reed to be the class act that he is and give Donnie J a 1 on 1 rematch, even though he didn’t get it. Reed should want to prove that not only he beat that fluke with the dreadlock, but that he could beat a real champion with it as well.

On the O’Harre promo with the Yukons I thought we were going to the RG’s vs the Yukon Boys. That might be were you end up, but I liked the story.

When Good Men Go To War

It could be argued that the sparking of the original East Coast War was the moment that changed North American wrestling forever. After decades of traditional products pushing big, musclebound men came a wave of groundbreaking inginuity. The slow-paced musclebound stars of the 80's were replaced with smaller, more workrate based performers – The Tri-State led the way in introducing Cruiserweights, Japanese Juniors and Luchadores to American audiences. But perhaps the defining trait of the original East Coast War was the blood! While once stories were told in the ring between workers with skills and technical abilities, they were soon pushed out of a window onto a bed of nails, as stories were told with barbed wire, baseball bats and blades.

For 4 years between 1994-1998 the original East Coast War raged on. Orginally the War was nothing more then an unspoken rivalry between DaVE and Philly Power Pro Wrestling, but it sparked one of the most exciting times for fans of wrestling in North America, as Rapid Pro Wrestling and Xtreme Federation of Wrestling broke onto the scene to challenge their more established rivals.

NYCW had stayed well clear of the original East Coast War, preferring to stick within their own little niche of inoffensive Old-School wrestling. That's how NYCW had survived while PPPW, RPW, XFW and even the 'winners' of the original war DaVE had all died. There were no winners in war, The Stomper had known that... and yet here we are. Larry Vessey was not The Stomper. He was head strong and had a short temper, and our stunt with Ernest Youngman had lit a fire in Mitch Naess' belly. Naess' career had been built in the original East Coast War - he had been a key player that helped DaVE come out victorious, and he obviously fancied his chances of winning again as in the final week of August 2017 PSW kicked off the second East Coast War – and this time NYCW found ourselves right in the middle of things!

The original East Coast Wars had lasted 4 years and was fondly remembered as one of the greatest periods in American wrestling history. I could only wonder as I slumped back in my chair, how would they remember Round Two?

Thanks Theheel! There were a lot of moving parts in this show, and I had to rebook with the LaGrenier COTT Title debacle, so it took a little longer than normal to get this one in the bag! I don't think being 'a class act' fits Reed's character haha! I'll definitely be needing him to keep delivering big in the Main Events though, particularly with Mitch Naess declaring war on us!

Donnie J [vs] “The Pure Athlete” Art Reed [vs] Philippe LaGrenier ©

[COTT World Heavyweight Championship Match]

the situation might be used to start a push for Philippe, but considering the narrative framed this as 4C going into business for themselves, I feel like reed's gonna take it.

I did consider going completely off rails and running with it, but Philippe just isn't popular enough to Main Event yet and he just can't deliver the grades that Art Reed can. Reed and BBS are by far my top two guys right now, so while the war with PSW is on I need them both right at the top of the card!

That is one thing I wish could be more controlled, the alliance title changes. Maybe it will be addressed in the new game. As for now, yes a story could be made that to have Flash win the belt and then drop it the next month. Reed could have “the flu” or some bug that keeps him out.

Edit- looks like you have a plan in place. I was thinking triple threat too but looking at the Reed vs Flash match there was no questionable issue or shenanigans to use to do it.

Yeah it was really bad timing! If it had been a month earlier I could have booked around it, but it was literally two weeks before my planned switch! I decided to go ahead with Reed as champion anyway because I'm going to need his match ratings over the next few months, which LaGrenier couldn't offer me as World Champion.

I do kind of wish you could have some influence on the World Title if you're one of the bigger promotions. Too often I see 4C just taking the titles and putting them on guys who would barely be midcarders in most of the other promotions and killing the titles prestige.

NYCW September Creative Meeting

HXSuquI.jpgCk3d93F.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/KJgaKKY.jpg

There were two major news stories in the wider world of wrestling this month. The first was the announcement of Sean McFly's official retirement from in-ring competition. McFly had been without work since leaving NOTBPW in January, his final match a loss to Derek Frost at NOTBPW Big City Brawl. Not a fitting end to a legendary career that saw McFly become a two-time SWF World Heavyweight Champion and a five-time NOTBPW Canadian Champion. Within weeks of his retirement Sean McFly had been inducted into both the NOTBPW Hall Of Fame and the Hall Of Immortals for his achievements in the ring.

The other major news this month was the announcement that TCW had once again risen to the size of a National rated promotion. These kind of announcements are often followed by an influx of new talent. There has been no movement yet from TCW head booker Brent Hill to bring in new blood, but it's something I'd be keeping my eye on over the next few weeks. I knew a few of my guys would be very high on Hill's list of potential targets.

But away from all of that, the major news for the month of August was the announcement that Mitch Naess had declared was on NYCW. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't seen it coming, and I looked to deliver the first blow as I contacted Ernest Youngman as soon as I heard the announement. Unfortunately Naess had beaten me to it, and had smoothed things over with his young star. Youngman went even further and told me he was now loyal to the former DaVE man, and as such wouldn't sign for us.

I was stressed enough having to deal with the sudden change of COTT World Heavyweight Champion that 4C had pulled on me. Larry had given Philippe a real earful when he'd shown up to 'Uptown Beatdown'. Once I'd had a moment to calm down, I'd felt sorry for the kid. He'd been offered the chance to win a World Championship in front of his home town crowd, who is going to turn down that kind of offer? Thankfully Philippe had agreed to doing the quick switch, and allowing us to move the belt onto Art Reed as planned. Philippe is a good kid, I'd have to find a way to thank him for that one day...

Back to the pressing matter of PSW. Annoyingly the day after declaring war against us, they then went and put on their best show of the year with Madman Boone defeating Ernest Youngman of all people in the Main Event! This helped them beat us in the Regional Battle for August, a fact that Larry Vessey was none to happy about. He told me that we were at war, and under no circumstances could PSW beat us in a Regional Battle again. He told me to pull out all of the stops for 'Carnage In Queens'. The war had begun, and we needed to make sure PSW knew they were in for a fight!

NYCW Presents Carnage In Queens

Live from Pennsylvania Park

Sunday W2 September 2017

NYCW welcomes you to a night that promises to create 'Carnage In Queens'. The nights Main Event sees NYCW Empire Champion Bulldozer Brandon Smith continue his feud with Honest Frank, as he defends his title against his rivals “Dark Reaper” Scythe. Scythe has been absolutely destructive since arriving in New York destroying all in his path, including costing Bulldozer Brandon Smith two matches against Honest Frank. The NYCW Empire Champion will be out for revenge, but can he overcome the demon?

Last month at 'Uptown Beatdown' we heard NYCW Tag Team Champions The Boys From Yukon call out The Can-Am Blondes. The Boys From Yukon title reign now extends to a year, but the lumbejacks and their therapist do not feel that they get the recognition they deserve for this accomplishment. So they have called out the legendary duo of The Natural and Owen Love. The Can-Am Blondes are one of the most decorated teams of the past decade, and a victory over the veteran team would surely put The Boys From Yukon on the map. Can the wild men pick up the biggest win of their career and continue their unbeaten run as a team since joining up with Doctor O'Haire, or can the legendary Can-Am Blondes add the NYCW Tag Team Titles to their long list of accomplishments?

The NYCW Tri-State Regional Title will also be up for grabs, as Joffy Laine challenges Jebediah for his title. “The Jackhammer” has been impressive in his short NYCW tenure so far, but faces his toughest test yet as he challenges the 6'11 Amish Brawler. This promises to be a real sloberknocker of a contest, but which fan favourite can hit hardest and take home the gold?

Also on the card, we will see the latest rendition of The Ring Generals Open Challenge. The NYCW booking team have announced that they have received a challenge, but haven't released any details on the identity of the team. The show will also see appearances from Art Reed, Steve Flash and Man Mountain Cahill. Be sure not to miss out!

[NYCW Empire Title Match]

Bulldozer's reign continues, reaper and frank give him trouble though.

The Can-Am Blondes [vs] The Boys From Yukon w/ Doctor O'Haire ©

[NYCW Tag Team Title Match]

The Boys retain, could be wrong, I think if you wanted the blondes to be regulars they probably would've beaten the generals.

Jebediah © [vs] Joffy Laine

[NYCW Tri-State Regional Title Match]

don't think the jackhammer is about to take the belt from the big Amish bruiser

??? [vs] The Ring Generals w/ Haley Buck

[The Ring Generals Open Challenge Match]

taking a risk here, but it feels like time to me, especially with the "pull out all the stops" line, I think even if the generals do win, it'll be a big team.

Conner Threepwood [vs] Man Mountain Cahill

unless your planning a push for Conner, Crocket leaving kinda makes him into a bit of a jobber to the stars.

The Aces Of Mayhem [vs] The Canadian Connection

another risky one, seems like the start of the reward for Phillipe playing nice

Miller Fforde & ??? [vs] Old School Principals

OSP could use a win, Miller's been a jobber so far, ??? could sway it though.

One thought on the title changes from 4C, while I agree a better way to control it would be necessary, there needs to be some leeway as 4C being the only Canadian promotion in the COTT means that the people that are big stars to them often differ to those of the U.S. based promotions (though Mimic and Shiva was pretty absurd, especially considering Mimic has a good tag partner already, hopefully the tag booking updates in 2020 fix that) my point being, some changes would be welcomed, but 4C should still be able to get their guys in every once in a while.

No contest

The Aces Of Mayhem [vs] The Canadian Connection

Simply because they are faces and any face team that is not a title contender needs to win. This match could be Phillippe’s “reward win” but I think it will be a bad night for Canadian tag teams

Miller Fforde & ??? [vs] Old School Principals

Speaking of rewards......the OSP are jobbers, normally to the stars. Not sure if they have won a match since they lost the belts

Doing It The Hard Way!

Involved: Art Reed

The new COTT World Heavyweight Champion is out to start the show, proudly wearing his newly won World Title Belt. Last month at 'Uptown Beatdown' Art Reed overcame the odds to defeat Philippe LaGrenier & Donnie J to win his first ever World Heavyweight Championship. “The Pure Athlete” tells the fans that he showed once and for all that he is the most dominant force in all of the COTT, and he was happy to head out to each and every territory to prove it. With that in mind, Reed announced that he would be defending his COTT World Heavyweight Championship next month at 'Kings Of New York', and sent out a challenge to anyone out there who thought they had what it takes to beat him. “The Pure Athlete” said that it didn't matter who answered his challenge, because once the Dread Lock is applied... everyone taps!

Segment Rating: B-

Rock Downpour: “A huge announcement from Art Reed to open the show! The COTT World Heavyweight Championship will be defended right here in New York next month!”

Ernie Turner: “You've got to wonder who the man will be to step up and accept Art Reed's challenge Rocky!”

Rock Downpour: “I can think of a few names from across the COTT who will want their chance at the World Title Ernie. I can't wait to see who turns up!”

The Can-Am Blondes (The Natural & Owen Love) [vs] The Boys From Yukon (Howlin' Mad Mort & Whitehorse Whittaker) © w/ Doctor O'Haire

NYCW Tag Team Title Match

The crowd popped as the legendary Can-Am Blondes pushed through the curtain to accept The Boys From Yukons challenge. Frustrated at their perceived lack of recognition, the NYCW Tag Team Champions had offered to put their titles on the line for a chance to prove that they could beat The Can-Am Blondes in the ring. The champions were accompanied to ring side by Doctor O'Haire who, as always, had both title belts draped over his shoulders.

The Boys From Yukon had the power advantage in this one, but The Can-Am Blondes had been teaming together for over a decade. In that time they had become one of the most decorated teams in all of wrestling, and they used all of their experience to nullify the lumberjacks power advantage and control the early portion of the contest. The Natural even looked to have the match won when he hit his 'Natural Selection', but Doctor O'Haire was on hand to place Whitehorse Whittaker's leg on the bottom rope to break the count.

This didn't turn the tide though, as The Can-Am Blondes continued to show off the teamwork they had perfected over the past decade to keep Whitehorse Whittaker pinned in their corner. However it only takes one big power move to turn the tide, as Owen Love found out when a missed Corner Splash opened up the opportunity for Whitehorse Whittaker to deliver a Body Slam. This turned the tide, and The Boys Of Yukon used their size advantage to isolate their Lightweight opponent in their corner. Things looked bad for Love, until he was able to flip through a Suplex attempt and land on his feet to scramble over to his corner for the hot tag. The Natural hit the ring and was able to take down both Whittaker and Mort with Clotheslines. The Natural motioned for Love to join him in the ring for the double team, but O'Haire got involved and pulled Love's leg from beneath him to send him crashing down from the apron. The Natural went over to remonstrate with O'Haire, but referee Matthew White hadn't seen the interference. A frustrated The Natural turned back to the ring, right into a Tiiiiiiiiiiimber from the recovered Boys From Yukon. Whitehorse Whittaker made the cover to secure a huge win for the lumberjacks.

Rating: C-

Winners:
The Boys From Yukon

Finish:
Pinfall (Tiiiiiiiiiiimber)

Notes: The Boys From The Yukon make defence number 5 of their NYCW Tag Team titles.

Owen Love carried the match in terms of in-ring performance.

Rock Downpour: “You've got to be kidding me, The Can-Am Blondes were setting up for the win, when Doctor O'Haire gets involved and ruins a great match!”

Ernie Turner: “He saved those titles for his team tonight, no doubt Rocky. But a huge win for The Boys From Yukon none the less.”

Rock Downpour: “The Boys From Yukon are an impressive team, I just wish they wouldn't involve themselves with that Doctor O'Haire...”

@miller_fforde & Sonny Wildside [vs] Old School Principals (Rick Sanders & The Masked Mauler)

@miller_fforde is joined in this tag team contest by the debuting Sonny Wildside. Ernie Turner tells us that Wildside is a huge fan of @miller_fforde's instagram, as Wildside animatedly talks into the go-pro strapped to Fforde's head as the youngsters head to the ring. This match is a real clash of styles of the high paced, youthful energy from Fforde & Wildside, and the slow, calculated approach of the Old School Principals.

The match went back and forth in the early stages, with @miller_fforde and Rick Sanders doing most of the work. The pace of the match changed when Sonny Wildside hit the ring, with the flashy youngster turning the dial up to eleven. The youngster flew around the ring, before tagging @miller_fforde back in. Wildside flew across the ring to deliver a Dropkick on the non-legal Rick Sanders to send him crashing to the floor outside. Wildside headed straight to the top rope and delivered his incredible 'Fear Factor' (a Moonsault Stomp) to Sanders on the outside, taking both men out of the match.

This left @miller_fforde one-on-one with The Masked Mauler in the ring, and the veteran looked shocked at what he had just seen Sonny Wildside do. Fforde didn't waste a moment and delivered his Fforde Flup Face Crusher (the flip is largely unnecessary, but it makes for great footage!) to pick up his first win since February.

Rating: D-

Winners:
@miller_fforde & Sonny Wildside

Finish:
Pinfall (Fforde Flip Face Crusher)

Ernie Turner: “Well Rocky you said you wanted to know who was watching Fforde's instagram footage, and now you know!”

Rock Downpour: “That young man must be as mad as Miller Fforde! Did you see that Moonsault Stomp? I've never seen anything like it...”

Ernie Turner: “We need to get Fforde's go-pro strapped to Wildside's head! Now that would make some good footage!”

Can we get a selfie?

Involved: Man Mountain Cahill, @miller_fforde & Sonny Wildside

@miller_fforde and Sonny Wildside had their hand sraised by referee Matthew White, but their celebrations as Man Mountain Cahill stomped down to the ring. The Man Mountain had put @miller_fforde out of action for two months in a post-match attack at 'Big Apple Brawl'. Cahill loomed over the young tag team, and let out his big belly laugh. However, @miller_fforde and Sonny Wildside did not look scared of the Man Mountain, a fact that seemed to annoy Cahill. Instead, Fforde had unstrapped the go-pro from around his head and the two excitable youngsters were jumping up and down – desperately trying to get a selfie with the Big Heavyweight. Cahill didn't seem to know what to do with this reaction, and the frustrated bully simply turned and stomped to the back to leave Fforde and Wildside to celebrate their debut win as a team.

Ernie Turner: “Well that's one way to avoid a beatdown!”

Rock Downpour: “These two boys are as mad as hatters...”

Ernie Turner: “They're injecting a bit of youthful energy into the place Rocky. It should make things more fun around here!”

Jebediah © [vs] Joffy Laine

NYCW Tri-State Regional Title

Next up the Tri-State Regional Title was up for grabs, as these two fan favourites fought it out for the gold. Most observers would have expected the 6'11, 300lb Amish Brawler to dominate his smaller opponent, but like so many before him the Tri-State Regional champion had underestimated the sheer striking power of “The Jackhammer”. Laine was able to catch his larger opponent off guard with heavy strikes early in the contest, and the charismatic Texan was able to take control of proceedings. Laine looked good for large periods of this match, but Jebediah was eventually able to regroup and deliver a big Clothesline to earn himself some breathing space. This killed the momentum Laine had built, and allowed Jebediah to reassert himself on this match and begin to make use of his size and power advantage. Laine did have some brief flurries of offence late in this match, but the power moves of Jebediah had taken the sting out of his strikes. The champion was able to deliver his Sundown Splash around the eleven minute mark to secure a surprisingly challenging title defence.

Rating: D+

Winner:
Jebediah

Pinfall (Sundown Splash)

Notes: Jebediah makes defence number 2 of his NYCW Tri-State Regional title.

Conner Threepwood [vs]Man Mountain Cahill

Next out was Conner Threepwood, who was soon joined in the ring by a very angry looking Man Mountain Cahill. Cahill was still unhappy about the 'selfie' segment earlier in the night with @miller_fforde and Sonny Wildside, and he took out his frustration on Conner Threepwood in this match. Threepwood tried his best to take the Man Mountain down onto the mat, but despite numerous attempts to shoot for the legs Threepwood was never able to build any sort of momentum in this match. The Man Mountain threw his opponent around the ring before delivering the Mountain Topper to secure an emphatic victory.

Rock Downpour: “Cahill did not look happy out there tonight Ernie...”

Hawkeye Calhoun [vs] Prisoner No. 6 w/ Doctor O'Haire

It was hard not to feel sorry for the baseball loving babyface here, as Prisoner No. 6 dominated what was nothing more than a squash match here. This one probably could have been done earlier, but the inmate seemed to enjoy throwing his smaller opponent around the ring for nearly six minutes. Having seemingly had enough, Prisoner No. 6 delivered the Jail Break as an exclamation point on a routine victory.

Just the beginning...

Involved: Prisoner No. 6, Doctor O'Haire & Steve Flash

Following his patients simple victory, Doctor O'Haire got on the mic to call out Steve Flash and demand an apology from the 51-year-old. O'Haire demanded that Flash came out to the ring, and threatened that if he didn't he would set his prisoner loose on Hawkeye Calhoun. This drew Flash out from the back, and the veteran told O'Haire that he wouldn't be apologising to him. O'Haire may have Miller Fforde fooled, but Steve Flash knew exactly the kind of man that he was dealing with. Flash had seen O'Haire's type before, and he wouldn't allow the doctor to get his claws into NYCW and destroy the promotion that Steve Flash loved so much.

O'Haire told Flash that he underestimated the good doctor and his patient, and promised Flash that he had never seen anybody like him before. Flash responded by telling O'Haire that he'd been in this business for 33 years, there was nothing he hadn't seen before. Flash also warned O'Haire not to underestimate him. Flash told O'Haire that he had his eye on him and his prisoner now, and that things were about to change for the Doctor... and it would happen sooner than he thought.

Flash left the Doctor stewing in the ring, with O'Haire looking extremely concerned at how their interaction had unfolded.

Rock Downpour: “Steve Flash sending a clear message to Doctor O'Haire. Your life in New York is about to get a whole lot more difficult!”

Ernie Turner: “And the Doctor does not look happy about it Rocky!”

Rock Downpour: “Why would he? Steve Flash is one of the top competitors in NYCW history, and in Riley McManus he's got a more than capable partner to stand up to O'Haire and his patients.”

The Aces of Mayhem (Ace Youngblood & Max Mayhem) [vs] The Canadian Connection (Philippe LaGrenier & Hugh Ancrie)

This was a contest between two teams looking for a victory to move them one step closer to the race for a Tag Team Title shot. Philippe LaGrenier proved to be the difference between the two teams here, as the former World Champion was able to delvier his Quebec Arrow to Max Mayhem to secure an important, momentum boosting victory for his team.

Winners:
The Canadian Connection

Finish:
Pinfall (Quebec Arrow)

Rock Downpour: “Philippe LaGrenier securing a big win for his team tonight Ernie. You've got to wonder if The Canadian Connection have just put themselves in the box seat to becoming the next number one contenders for the NYCW Tag Team Titles?”

Ernie Turner: “LaGrenier and Ancrie are an impressive young team, and there aren't too many other teams shouting too loudly right now. You've got to think they're somewhere near the front of the queue!”

Rock Downpour: “Speaking of Tag Team Title shots... you've got to wonder when The Ring Generals are going to throw their hat into the ring? Judging by Doctor O'Haire's speech last month at 'Uptown Beatdown', you've got to think The Boys From Yukon would welcome the challenge?”

Ernie Turner: “Now THAT's a match I'd love to see Rocky! But for now Haley Buck and her clients seem happy maintaining their winning streak in their Open Challenge!”

An unexpected challenger...

Involved: Haley Buck, The Ring Generals & ???

Haley Buck and her clients made their way down to the ring next, and Haley Buck immediately got on the mic to beg a 'worthy' team to come out and answer her clients Open Challenge this evening! She reminded the audience that The Ring Generals were undefeated in over a year since she had taken over as their manager, and reminded potential challengers that the prize of TWO guaranteed NYCW contracts were still up for grabs if a team could find a way to defeat her clients. Haley looked like she had more to say, but she was interrupted at this point by an unexpected source.

Riley McManus
appeared from behind the curtain with a microphone in hand, but before he could speak Haley Buck cut across him. She asked Riley what he was doing out here, in case he ahd forgotten he was already employed by NYCW! Riley told Haley Buck that he may have a contract here, but he had an old friend of his visiting from England who would be more than interested in 'guaranteed' work in the US... and he thinks the VISA office may be interested to!

Curtis Jenkins
came out to join Riley McManus, and the two men charged the ring.

Segment Rating: D+

Ernie Turner: “That's Curtis Jenkins, Riley's former tag team partner in MAW! I thought he was deported!”

The Atlantic Connection (Riley McManus & Curtis “CJ” Jenkins) [vs] The Ring Generals (Dean Waldorf & Marv Statler) w/ Haley Buck

The Ring Generals Open Challenge Match

The Ring Generals bailed from the ring when they saw McManus and Jenkins coming. Waldorf & Statler did not look happy at the identity of their opponents, and it took Haley Buck a few moments to calm her clients down. After a few minutes, the teams were in position and we were ready to start this months edition of the Open Challenge.

Curtis Jenkins and Marv Statler opened up for their respective teams, and debutant Curtis “CJ” Jenkins was able to show off his technical skills for a few minutes to introduce himself to the New York audience. However after CJ's initial success, a thumb to the eye from Marv Statler turned the match back in the Ring Generals favour and the heels were able to cut the ring in half and isolate Jenkins in their corner.

Things didn't look good for The Atlantic Connection, as the minutes ticked by and “CJ” was still unable to make the tag. However, a mistake from Dean Waldorf allowed Jenkins to wriggle free from his submission hold and dive across the ring to tag in Riley McManus. Riley was fresh into the match, and came in like a house on fire! A right hand took down Waldorf, a second took down Statler, another for Waldorf, before dumping Statler over the top rope to the outside! Riley was fired up, and it took a second thumb to the eye (this time from Waldorf) to put that fire out. Waldorf re-established control of the match and delivered a rough looking DDT that mearly earned him a three count, but Riley just got his shoulder up in time. Dean Waldorf remonstrated with the referee, but Matthew White held firm on his call of two. Haley Buck hopped up onto the apron to give the referee her own thoughts. Waldorf and Buck were both yelling at Matthew White, but had forgotten about Riley! McManus slipped in behind Dean Waldorf and caught the Ring General off guard as he rolled him up into a pinning predicament. The move had caught everyone off guard, apart from referee Matthew White who had enough wits about him to make the three count.

Rating: C-

Winners:
The Atlantic Connection

Finish:
Pinfall (Flash Roll-Up)

Notes: In terms of in-ring work, Dean Waldorf was head and shoulders above everyone else. Curtis Jenkins was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

</div>

Ernie Turner: “Riley McManus has done it! The Atlantic Connection win! The Open Challenge is over!”

Rock Downpour: “It took over a year, and over a dozen challengers, but The Ring Generals are finally defeated!”

Ernie Turner: “What do The Ring Generals do now Rocky?”

Rock Downpour: “They've proved over the past year that they are one of the premiere tag teams in North America. They could go after The Boys of Yukon, or try to get their World Tag Team Titles back... but I think they'll be wanting another shot at Riley McManus and his friend Curtis Jenkins.”

Ernie Turner: “And what does this mean for Riley? Is his alliance with Steve Flash over, or have they just recruited a new ally in Curtis Jenkins?”

And finally, it was time for our Main Event. Bulldozer Brandon Smith found himself in the unfamiliar position of giving up both a size and power disadvantage to his opponent in this one. Despite Smith representing a step up from his previous opponents, Scythe approached this match with the same methodical approach as his previous matches. It was clear from the first bell that Scythe had the power advantage here, as the demon used a series of heavy strikes and throws to take the champion down to the mat. “The Dark Reaper” was unrelenting in his assault, but never looked in a rush to deliver the killer blow. Scythe seemed content to keep on top of his opponent and wear him down.

This would prove to be a mistake, as the Bulldozer was finally able to get back into the match as he reversed an attempted Suplex from Scythe into a Suplex of his own. Both men slowly struggled back to their feet, and began to trade right hands in the middle of the ring. Cheers greeted every one of the Bulldozers heavy strikes, whereas the right hand bombs that Scythe delivered were met with boos from the New York crowd. After a short exchange, Smith was able to duck under an attempted right from his opponent and bounce off the ropes to deliver a heavy-duty Clothesline that caused Scythe to stumble. The Bulldozer bounced off the ropes again and delivered a second Clothesline, that pushed Scythe back into the ropes. Not done, the Bulldozer looked to deliver a third Clothesline... but as he charged at his opponent, the demon caught the NYCW Empire Champion by the throat! Honest Frank roared on his encouragement from ringside and his “Dark Reaper” lifted Smith up for the Chokeslam, but the Empire Champion was able to wriggle out. Landing on his feet, in an amazing feat of strength the Bulldozer was able to hoist “The Dark Reaper” up into the air into an impressive Stalled Suplex. The Bulldozer held the demon up there for 5... 10... no! Honest Frank had snuck into the ring with his reapers scythe and delivered a crunching blow to the back of the Empire Champion. The Bulldozer crumpled to the mat as referee Matthew White immediately called for the bell.

Rock Downpour: “Oh no! Honest Frank inserting himself into the match, and cutting short what was building to be an excellent Main Event.”

Ernie Turner: “Matthew White calling for the DQ, which means Bulldozer Brandon Smith will retain his title, but I don't think Honest Frank and his “Dark Reaper” are done here...”

This isn't over!

Involved: Honest Frank, Scythe & Bulldozer Brandon Smith

Unfortunately Ernie Turner was right, as Honest Frank immediately passed the scythe to his “Dark Reaper”. Just like last month at 'Uptown Beatdown', Scythe immediately used his the handle of his scythe to choke the Empire Champion. Bulldozer Brandon Smith tried in vain to battle out of it, but the demon was too strong for him. As Brandon Smith was losing consciousness, Honest Frank got right in his face and yelled that 'this wasn't over'. Once Smith had passed out, Frank's “Dark Reaper” finally released the handle of the scythe from his neck and the Empire Champion slumped to the mat.

'Carnage In Queens' ended with the scene of Honest Frank and his “Dark Reaper” standing tall over an unconscious Bulldozer Brandon Smith. The Bulldozer may still be champion, but how long can he keep the belt away from the demon?

??? [vs] The Ring Generals w/ Haley Buck

[The Ring Generals Open Challenge Match]

taking a risk here, but it feels like time to me, especially with the "pull out all the stops" line, I think even if the generals do win, it'll be a big team.

My original plan was actually to run the Open Challenge through to 'Rush Hour', but then the game kind of put this on my lap as Curtis Jenkins randomly became available to work in the US. This opened up a fun addition to the story I want to tell with Riley with their history in MAW. Plus it gives me a top level team on the face side.

I totally get that, and it's a tough balance. I've just noticed that 4C tend to switch the belt the most often out of all of the COTT promotions, and tend to trash the belts prestige while their guys hold them - presumably due to their low pop in other regions. For example in this save the Empire Title is at 97 prestige and when Art Reed took the World Title it was at 71 prestige.

Miller Fforde & ??? [vs] Old School Principals

Speaking of rewards......the OSP are jobbers, normally to the stars. Not sure if they have won a match since they lost the belts

I'll have you know that OSP have won two matches since losing the belts! They've definitely dropped down the card though due to time decline. :o

Great show!!

Thanks Historian! Glad you enjoyed it. I thought this was one of my better shows recently and really sets up a few new storylines heading forwards. Hopefully we can keep up the momentum!
