SCCW Reborn: The Last Rebels [CVerse, A co-op diary]

The restaurant was almost dead but that was the point. It was the middle of the day. Time for two men, two old friends dating back to their time in Texas to sit and meet. Shane Sneer took a drink from his Sweet Tea and slammed a fist on the table.

“Damn it Peter.” Shane snarled. “They’re killing the wrestling business. Look at it. Where on television is pro wrestling the way it was meant to be? Where are the grown men? Where are the people fighting to settle a score? Packer killed the vision of USPW with his budget and his desire to buy all the top stars. The Eisens don’t believe in pro wrestling with their entertainment nonsense. And BriCo? Who knows what they’re going to do? They’re a damn toy company. I don’t have much faith in them.”

Peter Michaels, the former head booker of the Eisen Empire and one of the best play by play announcers in the history of professional wrestling held his hands up defensively. “It isn’t my fault, Shane. What can I do? The Eisens put me out to pasture. I don’t have the book anywhere.”

“Not yet.” Sneer interrupted. “I’ve been pissed off for a year, Peter. A year since I got fired from USPW for nothing.”

“You did slap that enhancement guy,” Peter interjected.

“Oh, horseshit.” Sneer started. “Yeah I roughed him up a little bit but they were looking for a reason to get rid of me and give Robbie the job -- and that’s fine. I was done with them anyway. I was losing my mind. The last year has been great for me. Allowed me to figure out what it was I want.”

“And what’s that?” Peter asked. He took a drink from his lemonade and a bite from his sandwich. Shane was always a colorful character. A by-product of the territory days. Sneer cut his teeth in the Texas Wrestling League, just like Peter did. That is where they had met -- and they had stayed in touch. When Peter was the lead play by play man for SWF, he was regularly in contact with Sneer while he was running SCCW. When they were both holding the pencil for their respective organizations, they stayed in contact. Polite contact. They couldn’t be overtly friendly because they were in opposition to one another, but now they were two old dogs without a spot in the world.

“I’ve been in contact with the Gibson Broadcast Group. They own a bunch of regional television networks. They’ve been looking for some programming. We’ve been working out the terms of the deal and at the first of the year, we’re going to launch a new wrestling show. A show focused on wrestling. Not sports entertainment. None of that garbage. Just men fighting men. Trying to be the best. Beating the crap out of one another. Competing for championships and glory and pro wrestling immortality. The way it was supposed to be. The way it was done in Texas and Tennesse and Georgia and the Carolinas. Before it got watered down with corporate interests and board rooms and political correctness. Pro Wrestling, Pete.”

Pete didn’t say anything for a long moment. He took another drink from his lemonade and another bite from his sandwich. There was a part of him that thought that Shane was crazy. He couldn’t possibly think that this was a good idea? Getting back in the wrestling business in a big way. Television from the gate? What sort of budget did he have? What sort of roster? Pete took another drink. These weren’t questions for him to answer. He was here as a friend, after all. “That sounds good, Shane. If there was ever a guy to do it. It was you.” He meant that part. Shane Sneer was a hell of a mind. A bit of a volatile person, sure, but a hell of a mind. He loved the business of pro wrestling. He loved it with every fiber of his being. Peter believed that Shane could do something.

“Not me.” Shane said with a shake of his head. “Us. Me and you. Two old dogs of war that no one wants anymore. How long have you been sitting on the sidelines with no one calling? Packer didn’t call. BriCo didn’t call. Hell, none of the Canadian companies called. What are you going to od? Local radio? You’re a wrestling guy, Pete. You need to be in this business. Me and you. Running things. Shaking up the establishment and proving that pro wrestling can be done… and can be done our way.”

“Wait. What? You want me to announce for you?”

“Yes. But I want you to run the pencil. Or at least, help run the pencil. I’m going to be promoting the shows. I’m going to be dealing with sponsors and advertisers and the networks and all that. You manage the book. Together, we call the shows and tell the stories and get this thing over. Together we make a damn difference.” Sneer said passionately.

Peter sat there in silence. This isn’t what he was expecting, but he couldn’t lie, it was what he wanted. Everyone said the same thing about Peter Michaels. Nice guy. Good coach. Cared about his talent, but wasn’t a guy who was going to upset the status quo. He was a company guy. He had been a company guy for how long for the Eisens and they still left him out in the cold without so much as a thank you. That was the business though. An opportunity to show the world that he still had a lot of gas left in the tank -- that he wasn’t close to done? “When do we start?”

Sneer grinned his trademark grin. “You just did.”

Historian and DarK_RaideR present:

Southern Class Championship Wrestling: Reborn.

The Last Rebels

So welcome to the newest brain child of DarK_RaideR and myself. We were inspired by the wrestling scene of today, with companies like MLW and NWA (and to a smaller degree) ROH having national distribution in some form or fashion. TEW doesn't offer a place to replicate YouTube distribution in a way that isn't broken -- so we've gone with the regional Television model. The Gibson Broadcast Group is fictional, but the broadcasters within it are from Derek_B's fantastic CVerse97 mod. In this diary, DarK_RaideR and I are sharing responsibility. We're booking the shows "together", meaning we are working as a two-man booking team. We'll share the writing responsibilities. We hire and fire as a team.

We hope that this diary (which we are billing as a co-op as opposed to multiplayer since we are working together) will provide something fresh and different to the boards and hopefully provide some new legs. It doesn't end any of our other projects. We both love the game of TEW and love the ability to tell stories and create content and find new ways to explore the game and hopefully effect the way other people play the game and see certain characters. You may see some familiar faces in this diary, though we are trying to avoid as many as possible, but we are also hoping to present some of the faces in new ways.

Thank you for joining us on this journey. We hope you won't be disappointed.

The fondly-remembered Southern Championship Class Wrestling was a promotion that ran out of Tennessee between 1998 and 2003. Founded by Shane Sneer, it was an attempt to run a true old-school southern promotion, the kind that hadn't been around since the early 1980s when the Supreme Wrestling Federation started to swallow up all the competition.

In truth, nostalgia clouds the minds of fans when it comes to SCCW - while they did put on some decent shows and have some good talent and memorable angles, the reality is that they were quite low budget and were never more than a struggling regional promotion.

It was announced at the end of 2015 that Shane Sneer, Peter Michaels, and investors from the Gibson Broadcasting Group decided to work together to bring SCCW back from the dead with the goal of presenting an old-school, Southern style promotion to the masses and be a true alternative to the "Big Three" dominanting American pro wrestling.

Thank you all, we are both really excited to get this project off the ground and explore new ways of playing this game as well as writing a diary. Truth is, I did pitch the idea of WPL as a possibility while Historian probably had a SCCW save/diary in his head for a while, but we went with the latter for a multitude of reasons. I think the most important aspects are that SCCW has a history we can tap into right from our first show, as well as that nostalgia factor that real world NWA does.

The Last Rebels, Ep. 1

SCCW Presents: The Last Rebels

Episode Number One

Taped on Thu W1 Jan 2016 at The GBG Studios in Nashville, Tennessee in front of 534 people

Ratings: .01 [10,500 viewers]

kPzRGn7.jpgOzvzrHe.jpg

Michaels: “Hello everyone and welcome to the very first episode of Southern Class Championship Wrestling's The Last Rebels. I’m Peter Michaels and we are coming to you from the GBG Studios in Nashville, Tennessee for what promises to be the start of something special. I hope you're excited, I know I'm excited and honoured to be joined at the broadcast table by the one, the only, the legendary Shane Sneer!”

Sneer: “For almost thirteen years, Southern Class Championship Wrestling was a memory, a faded memory of days bygone, but starting tonight, SCCW is back. Tonight, professional wrestling is back, as it was meant to be. Ass kicking. Take no prisoners. Beat the hell out of whoever is in front of you. We are SCCW and we truly are The Last Rebels of professional wrestling.”

Michaels: “Wow, someone is clearly fired up tonight.”

Sneer: “You bet I am, Peter. I’m as fired up as I’ve been in a long time.”

Michaels: “As you should be. What a great night of professional wrestling we have scheduled. In the main event of our first ever show, the two best teams in the history of SCCW meet in the ring once again for the Southern Tag Team Championship as the final tag team champions, The Maryland Alliance make their return to Nashville to go head to head with The Tennessee Outlaws -- now led by Ernie Turner. These two teams have a long history with one another and their rivalry continues sixteen years after it started. Before we can get to our main event however, legendary wrestler -- former four-time Southern Heavyweight Champion Whistler is scheduled to be here… And here he comes now!”

2MnrCLE.png

45eKMxT.jpg

As if on cue, the former four-time Southern Heavyweight Champion, Whistler, comes out to the ringside area. The five-hundred and some odd fans that have filled the GBG Studios give the legendary grappler a standing ovation. Whistler, the final SCCW Champion is holding the championship in his arms.

FBxxJRs.jpg

Whistler: “Thirteen years ago, SCCW closed their doors and I went home with this championship. The final champion. It was a championship that I bled over. That other men bled over. A championship with a reputation forged by men fighting over it. By men waging war and competing as professional athletes. I take a lot of pride in this championship. In what I went through to be champion and now that SCCW is back… Now that professional wrestling is back on television in America, it is time for a new man to carry this championship. To wear this belt and continue its legacy. But I'm not here to tell you who this man will be, because championships aren't passed on, they are earned. And don't you think we're going to hang it from the rafters or do a big battle royal for it either. Whoever wears this title around their waist must have proven themselves to be a tough son of a gun, so we'll be having ourselves a proper tournament, with the finals to crown a new champion held at our big show, Tennessee Tussle!”

XZlGd80.jpg

The crowd applauds as former two-time Southern Heavyweight Champion, “Southern Justice” Jack Griffith comes out. Whistler takes a step back. He’s not sure of Jack’s intentions. Griffith looks around at the crowd and then at Whistler and then at the SCCW Championship.

Griffith: “The greatest achievements of my professional career, of my life, came when I was Southern Heavyweight champion. Two times I stood atop this mountain. Two times… Whistler, I appreciate everything you’ve done for the sport. We’ve waged war against each other. You’ve made me taste my own blood and I know I’ve spilled your blood on canvases all around the South. Allow me to say, thank you. Thank you for everything you've done for this business, for this company, for pro wrestling and thank you for returning the championship. But I'm not out here just to thank you. I'm here to be the first man to officially enter the tournament. To make my intentions known. Professional wrestling is back and I am going to lead the charge.”

Whistler and Jack shake hands and the crowd applauds once more.

7EqFCw6.jpg

Michaels: “Well look at that! A tournament to crown a champion in this new era -- plus the big tag team title main event? We’re only just getting started!”

Sneer: “We are just getting started and up next, the first match in the Reborn era. The masked wrestler from South of the Border, perhaps professional wrestling’s only fourth generation grappler, the lucha sensation, the grappling wizard El Mitico Jr challenges a man who might be in the best shape of any professional wrestler on the planet -- Richie Riggins! Don’t change that dial folks, you won’t want to miss a second of SCCW action.”

Opening Match

Fifteen Minute Time Limit

dRaIS5S.jpg2rRLoHs.jpgSzghv3F.jpg

El Mítico Jr versus Richie “The Body” Riggins

No one really knew who the masked luchador was, so initially they were a little cold on him. Riggins, on the other hand, a former RIPW USA and Tag Team Champion, had several people in the crowd who recognized him, without necessarily liking him. Riggins' time under Professor Nero showed, as he worked slow and steady while still really focused on working over the crowd with his flexing and taunting of his opponent. Outside of some opening shine where Mitico surprised Riggins with some lightning-fast holds, a snap suplex and a roll up that got a two-count, this was all Riggins. Riggins hit his impressive finisher, which he calls the Body Bag [Gorilla Press Slam] and got the three count from referee Alvin Lavin to win the first match on the opening episode of The Last Rebels. Still, while Riggins got the win, the crowd was really behind Mitico by the end of it thanks to a mix of sympathy for the underdog and appreciation of the technical skill he was able to display at the start of the match.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Richie Riggins defeated El Mítico Jr in 10:15 by pinfall with a Body Bag.

EjdrcWN.jpg

2MnrCLE.png

oQRL1Fz.jpgHqwlEac.jpg

Riggins is leaving the ring as the National Guard, The Silencer and Desert Storm, come out to the interview area. The Silencer, a legit former Special Forces man trained by the legendary Dread at the TITAN Factory, took the microphone that Peter Michaels -- play by play and ringside interviewer -- offered him.

Silencer: “I need you all to take a good hard look at the two men standing here. Me and Desert Storm. We’ve been around the world. We’ve been to warzones. We’ve been in combat. We are proud of the service that we gave our country. We are proud of the scars we wear and the flag that is sewn onto our uniform. But we’re not soldiers anymore. We’re pro wrestlers. We’re the National Guard. We know that we are not in the match for the Southern Tag Team Championship tonight -- but we want an opportunity to challenge the winners.”

HYre8mQ.jpg

As The Silencer is talking, Sgt. Bubba Lee West comes walking out. Desert Storm takes two steps back and the Silencer stares at him.

Silencer: “What the hell are you doing here?”

Bubba Lee is handed another microphone from Peter Michaels.

West: “You know exactly why I’m here. I’ve been waiting for years, John. YEARS. You’ve ran. You’ve hidden. Now you've made the mistake of entering the wrestling business and here we are both in SCCW. You can’t run any more.”

Silencer: “I've never run from anything, you lunatic. You damned lunatic... You want to do this? Then let’s do it!”

West: “Not today big fella.. But soon.”

Sgt. Bubba Lee West walks off and leaves The Silencer fuming and Desert Storm looking like he was ready for a fight.

EjdrcWN.jpg

2MnrCLE.png

Sneer: “We almost lost an announcer on the first show! You can feel the tension between those men. I don’t know what the history is, but I am glad all three are here in SCCW and we can see them settle their score the way men are supposed to settle their scores. In the squared circle.

Michaels: “I’m glad I got out of there okay, Shane! After all that, I’m glad to be calling a match from a safe distance once more as up next we have veteran southern wrestler, Mad Dog Mortimer stepping into the ring with a bright up-and-comer in “American Eagle” Roger Monteiro.

Singles Match

Fifteen Minute Time Limit

YqdHXAF.jpg2rRLoHs.jpgWs6kNQ6.jpg

“American Eagle” Roger Monteiro versus Mad Dog Mortimer

The second match of the night was off as veteran southern wrestler and all around crazy redneck faced off against the young Native American that has been getting rave reviews from local companies across the United States. This wasn’t a great match by any stretch of the imagination. Mortimer is clearly not the wrestler he once was -- and he wasn’t a great wrestler in his youth to begin with. Monteiro is still green, still learning to work and be truly comfortable in the ring. It was sloppy at times but it did its job in giving Monteiro a big win on television after he hit the Eagle Chop and got the pinfall victory.

In a bout that didn't have much heat and terrible wrestling, Roger Monteiro defeated Mad Dog Mortimer in 9:51 by pinfall with an Eagle Chop.

AlNDyXF.jpg

2MnrCLE.png

Michaels: “A great win for Roger Monteiro. That kid has a lot of potential and could be a break out star.”

Sneer: “Yes he does. He’s what we like to call a real blue-chipper. He’s a good looking kid. In great shape. Takes himself seriously. Trains hard. And he beat one tough son of a gun in that redneck son of a bitch Mad Dog Mortimer. That’s the kind of win that isn’t pretty. They don’t show it on the highlights, but Mad Dog Mortimer is tougher than a steak at an all you can eat buffet and a win over him is a statement.”

Michaels: “And coming up next we will hear from Ernie Turner and the Tennessee Outlaws before they square off with the Maryland Alliance.

z9KNibR.jpgNPRHszQ.jpgMLsxKsR.jpgwyLHFJZ.jpg

Former three-time Southern Tag Team Champions, The Tennessee Outlaws are led to the ringside area by their new manager, Ernie Turner. The Outlaws had been managed by Herb Statley in their first run with SCCW, but Herb didn’t want to come back to work full time and Ernie Turner jumped at the chance to get another gig -- since he was only working once a month for NYCW. Turner is a former two-time SCCW Tag Champion himself (having been one of the Assassins) and while the audience doesn’t necessarily recognize him as such, he still has the swagger of a champion.

Turner: “Look at these two big men. Look at them Pete. Look at them Shane. These are the Tennessee Outlaws. The baddest men to ever come to Nashville. Jack hits hard and Robbins hits even harder. They chew sand and spit out glass. They go to bars and the bartender doesn’t dare charge them. These are grown men. They’ve been in a bar fight or two. They’ve knocked some people out. They’ve taken some guys girlfriends and maybe given ‘em back. They went to hell and the Devil ran for the hills ‘cause he ain’t know what to do with these two.”

Turner stops for a moment and looks around at the crowd in attendance, then at Peter Michaels and Shane Sneer.

Turner: “Tonight, they’ve got the Maryland Alliance. Brady Prince and Buck Graham. Sixteen years this thing has been going on. Sixteen years since the first rodeo between these two teams and tonight, with SCCW back and the whole world watching -- with everyone tuning in to see what SCCW is going to do, my boys. The Tennessee Outlaws. The toughest team to ever come to SCCW -- they’re going to get the job done and for the fourth time they will be SCCW Southern Tag Team Champions. ‘Cause the Outlaws always get the job done.”

Blackjack Robbins and Whisky Jack get into the ring to await their challengers.

EjdrcWN.jpg

2MnrCLE.png

Michaels: “Strong words from Ernie Turner about the Tennessee Outlaws. When we come back from our final commercial break, we will see the main event of the first-ever episode of Last Rebels. Who will walk away with the Southern Tag Team Champions?”

Sneer: “I can’t wait to find out. This should be a barnburner. These teams know each other so well, Peter. They traded the Southern Tag Team Championship back and forth all those years ago. It is only fitting that they go at it once more.”

The main event of the evening. Two tag teams that had history between them in SCCW. That meant something here. It wasn’t a great match in terms of in-ring action. Buck Graham has been on a downward slide for several years and the Alabama native hasn’t been good and wasn’t good here, at all. If it wasn’t for Brady Prince being in this match, it would have probably been worse. He really helped lead the match and Turner on the outside made up for the fact that 51 years of age have taken a serious toll on Robbins. He was retired before SCCW came back, to begin with.

Robbins and Jack did work well together with one another despite the fact that Blackjack hasn’t worked a match in years. Brady made a big comeback -- which was the highlight of the match and got Robbins down on the outside. He made the tag to Buck Graham so that Buck could try to get the win while Brady kept Blackjack down. Turner got on the apron and distracted Buck long enough for Jack to get ahold of him to hit a Face First Suplex and got a three count and the win.

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but terrible wrestling, The Tennessee Outlaws defeated The Maryland Alliance in 9:08 when Whisky Jack defeated Buck Graham by pinfall with a Face First Suplex after Ernie Turner interfered. The Tennessee Outlaws win the SCCW Tag Team Championship titles for the fourth time.

Well, the reason that I say WPL is because it'd be more useful in terms of using TWL for nostalgia purposes alongside with SCCW rather than one or the other. I was thinking something along the lines of how the Fields-Fuller-Golden-Welch clan ran Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama-Florida and Louisiana-Mississippi. It being a league would let you run one brand in Mid-South and another in Southeast as a NWA unto yourself.

Regardless, the match is set and the game afoot. Time to see what you whippersnappers can do with a roster of aging veterans and green rookies. :p

SCCW Presents: The Last Rebels

Michaels: “Hello and welcome to another episode of The Last Rebels. Last week we made our debut on the Gibson Broadcasting Group family of television networks and tonight we return for another episode full of action, excitement and of course, great wrestling!”

Sneer: “Great wrestling indeed, we had some great matches last week and it’s only going to get better tonight because we are kicking off our grand tournament to crown the first Southern Heavyweight champion of this new era!”

Michaels: “Speaking of champions, what a main event we witnessed last week as the Maryland Alliance and the Tennessee Outlaws waged war once again for the SCCW Tag Team titles! A rivalry that goes several years back in time, but apparently it’s not the only one around here as last week, the National Guard were surprised by a man who seems to be haunting the past of Desert Storm and The Silencer.”

Sneer: “That man was Sgt. Bubba Lee West, a former U.S. Army Ranger and we’ll be hearing from him right now! Watch out there, Peter, West is an unpredictable man from what I’ve heard!”

2MnrCLE.png

HYre8mQ.jpg

Peter Michaels leaves his seat at the announcers’ table and heads to the interview area as Sgt. Bubba Lee West comes out and heads to the same spot.

Michaels: “Sargeant, I have to ask you what every fan of SCCW wants to hear from you right now, what’s going on with you and the National Guard?”

West: “I’m afraid the details of our shared past is classified information, but I can tell you this... Hold up the microphone so I can speak!”

Fans boo West, but he disregards them and continues to talk, raising his voice if needed so he can be heard over the noise.

West: “You civilians shut your mouths and let me talk, I have a microphone and a throat that can order rookies around all day! Just like I used to do when I had to turn the Silencer and Desert Storm into proper soldiers. Now the Silencer and Desert Storm, they are great athletes. Great wrestlers. Tough men. I know that and I respect that. But years ago, years ago they were in boot camp under my command and it was up to me to whip them into shape. To turn them into the fighting machines you now see in front of you. To turn them into soldiers -- but somewhere along the line, they forgot where they came from. They forgot who I was and forgot what I did for them. They forgot that it’s ‘cause of me they’ve gotten anywhere in life. ‘Cause of my training. My preparing them for the warzones that they were going to run into. Tough men. Been to war, but they aren’t in war anymore. Well, at least, not the war I trained them for. They’re in the war that happens in the wrestling ring. The war that happens when men collide from up close, not with guns from afar, with no weapons but their own fists. It is violent, it is brutal, it is vicious, it is up close and personal and it’s the kind of war that I’ve been trying to get them to let me train them for, without ever getting the go-ahead. For years, they’ve been running from me, but now our paths cross again. And boy, do they need me again. Just like they needed me as soldiers back then to prepare them for war. Now they need me to prepare them for this war. And mark my words, they will fall in line.”

The drill sergeant marches off to a chorus of boos.

Michaels: “Strong words from Bubba Lee West.”

Sneer: “That’s SARGEANT Bubba Lee West to you, Peter. You don’t want to end up on his bad side, like The Silencer and Desert Storm.Clearly he’s out to put them through wrestling boot camp and I don’t want to be someone who stands against him.”

Michaels: “Me neither, but the show must go on and up next, our first match of the evening. SCCW alumnus Rex Reeves returns and is looking for a full-time contract. His opponent? One of the most devastating men in all of pro wrestling, “Hacksaw” Findlay O’Farraday.”

Rex Reeves versus “Hacksaw” Findlay O’Farraday

The monster from Cobb County, Georgia, made his SCCW debut in impressive fashion, continuing his trail of destruction that began in Rip Chord’s MAW and continued with Black Canvas Grappling in Japan. His opponent was Rex Reeves, a man whose small size and high flying style never got him far during his original run with SCCW. It was no different this time around, with Reeves’ high time being when he came out of the curtain as another face fans may remember from the original incarnation of SCCW. From there on it was all Findlay O’Farraday, with Reeves never managing to even land a single offensive move for the five or so minutes his opponent toyed with him before he got bored and hit the Atomic Spinebuster to win.

In an extremely short match, Findlay O'Farraday defeated Rex Reeves in 5:13 by pinfall with an Atomic Spinebuster.

2MnrCLE.png

Michaels: “An impressive show of force by the big man from Cobb County, he sure will be one to watch and I bet he will be among those included in the tournament to determine the next SCCW Southern Heavyweight champion.”

Sneer: “You just can’t overlook a beast like Findlay O’Farraday. He is built to destroy and that’s exactly what he did to Rex Reeves. He put the entire roster on notice with that match.”

Michaels: “Findlay O’Farraday certainly makes heads turn but so did another man last week. Please welcome my next guest, El Mitico Jr!”

dRaIS5S.jpg

Mitico: “You know, it’s so hard when people expect something from you. I should know, I am the first and only fourth generation luchador. That means my father, my grandfather and my great-grandfather wore this mask I now have on. That legacy is an honour, but it’s also a heavy burden. People in Mexico expect certain things as soon as they hear my name or see my mask. Just like people outside of Mexico tend to expect certain things. Last week, when I walked out here to have my match, I’m sure people expected me to do flips and dive off the top rope. Tonight, I’m sure part of the audience was surprised to hear me speak English. So what I’m saying is, forget what you think you know about me. I won’t get pigeonholed into whatever role people have in their heads. I defy expectations. I thrive under pressure. And I’ve come to SCCW, where real men are educating the world once more on the sport, the art of professional wrestling, so I can spread the legacy of El Mitico beyond just Mexico!”

M4SOg7D.jpg

2MnrCLE.png

Michaels: “I think we can expect big things from the fourth generation luchador here in SCCW. Coming up next, Seth Whitehead and Steel will be going one on one. A victory in this match could put one of them well on the way to getting in the conversation for challengers to the Southern Heavyweight Championship.”

Sneer: “Every match matters. Every win matters. You can’t afford to lose, or lose frequently, here in the SCCW. These are competitors. Win matches, you get more money and bigger opportunities. Lose and you might end up without a contract.”

“The Man With No Nickname” Seth Whitehead versus Steel

Seth Whitehead, a great collegiate wrestler from Minnesota, and an arch-competitor who is just looking for the best competition the wrestling world has to offer had his hands full with the big man known as Steel -- probably for his physique that looks like his entire body is lined with steel. Whitehead looked for takedowns and was tossed off. He tried for some suplexes and was tossed off. It wasn’t a great match -- but it was a match with a clear point. Establish Steel as a powerhouse, a strongman, to be reckoned with. Every move Steel did was a showcase of his strength -- and after each move he hit some sort of pose -- living up to the Flex Express team that he is one half of. Steel hit a big bodyslam and then a neckbreaker to get the victory.

In a bout that didn't have much heat and terrible wrestling, Steel defeated Seth Whitehead in 6:07 by pinfall with a Neckbreaker.

SCCW The Last Rebels is thrown into an advertisement.

Voice Over: “Have you ever wanted to represent your favorite wrestlers? Perhaps go in public and rep one of SCCW’s greatest of all time. Perhaps you are a proud Southerner and want the world to know. Then look no further than your very own “Southern Justice” jacket.

Voice Over: "It is officially licensed merchandise and the first item to hit the SCCW.com store. Pick yours up today and make… them… pay!

Michaels: “Make sure to check out http://www.sccw.com for all of your Southern Class Championship Wrestling needs. That jacket sure is a thing of beauty.”

Sneer: “And you’ll see Jack Griffith wearing it tonight in our main event. But that’s still to come. We’ve got our first tournament match coming up next and are you ready for this Peter? Justice Jolson, the powerhouse from Pittsburgh who loves America, apple pie and redheads will be going up against a former Southern Tag Team Champion in Rick Sanders.”

Michaels: “What can we expect from this match, Shane? Justice Jolson is a new name to a lot of our fans and Rick Sanders has primarily been known as a tag team specialist in his career.”

Sneer: “You’re right about both of those. Jolson is a powerhouse and a big one at that. Trained by Dread himself, he’s got the size and skills to really go far. He’s only been wrestling for about a year but he's strong as an ox and has shown himself to be a capable man so far. This is his first real opportunity here in SCCW and he’s looking to make the most of it. Rick Sanders, on the other hand, is a veteran. He’s been wrestling for almost thirty years. He’s wrestled all over America and had success everywhere he’s gone. He has made a name for himself in tag teams -- including being one half of the Dallas Wrecking Crew with partner Idaho Punisher. He’s back now and he’s looking to gain the singles accolades that have eluded him for almost thirty years. A win tonight would mean he is one step closer. I expect him to leave it all out there, Peter.

Justice Jolson versus “Old School” Rick Sanders

The former “Mr. Pittsburgh” is an incredibly impressive physical specimen. While he is young and green, his physical attributes clearly mean he is going to be a star. Sanders is a wily veteran and was leading this match. It was also clear that at 46 years old, Sanders was not going to go all out on an episode of television but the match was structured to both protect his declining skills and also tell the story of the veteran against the greenhorn. Everything that Jolson did, Sanders was expecting and had an answer for, but Jolson’s power was just too much -- and it was Jolson’s power and his running Powerslam -- The Death Penalty -- that made all the difference to get Jolson the win and the advancement in the tournament.

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Justice Jolson defeated Rick Sanders in 8:11 by pinfall with The Death Penalty.

Ernie Turner is alone as he walks out but he is all smiles.

Turner: “Did I tell you? Did I or did I not say that The Tennessee Outlaws were going to become the Southern Tag Team Champions? They are the best team to ever come to Nashville. They’re the best team that SCCW has ever or will ever see. They are the Southern Tag Team Champions and it looks like we’ve already got men linin’ up to challenge for these belts. We’ve got guys like the National Guard. Two tough bastards, right? Two guys who’ve been to war. Two men who are here in SCCW to make a name for themselves and they want to do it at the expense of the Tennessee Outlaws. Of the team that is the backbone… the foundation…. Of SCCW.”

utvut8G.jpgsTUpP5U.jpg

As Ernie is talking, the Maryland Alliance walk onto the set of the studio. They do not look happy. Turner backs off and just holds his hands up. He doesn’t a piece of the Maryland Alliance, who are clearly fired up at him costing them a title match, or at least isn’t willing to put up a fight without the Tennessee Outlaws near him.

GegwXV8.jpg

2MnrCLE.png

Michaels: “Looks like things aren’t over between The Tennessee Outlaws and The Maryland Alliance. We will keep all of you updated on the developments. It could be that we are looking at a rematch for the titles at Tennessee Tussle by the end of the month.”

Sneer: “I can’t wait to see what happens between those four men and I can’t wait for what is next, our main event! Jack Griffith is back inside a SCCW ring against Richie Riggins! Last week, The Body won a big match against El Mitico Jr and now he’s got a tough challenge in the former two-time champion who’s out to become three-time champion. Peter, this is the kind of match that the Last Rebels is going to present every week. Matches that matter. Winner continues in the tournament. Loser is on the outside looking in.”

Michaels: “Well let’s not waste anymore time!”

“Southern Justice” Jack Griffith versus Richie “The Body” Riggins

The crowd was very excited to see “Southern Justice” back in the ring. It has been several years since the former-two time champion has been at his peak. Alcohol and injuries have left him a shell of the wrestler he was thirteen years ago when he was tearing down the house for SCCW -- but he’s still charismatic and incredibly popular, while Riggins was a great foil for this match.

This was an old school match. They didn’t work too fast and they told a good story. It was solid action with Griffith starting off hot, then Riggins using an eyerake to take control and then slow the match down. He was focusing on the back of Griffith. The Body hit several sidewalk back breakers -- dropping “Southern Justice” over his knee repeatedly. The fans were really behind the forty-year old Griffith as he ducked a clothesline and began a big come back. It was full of that classic Southern pro wrestling fire and when Jack hit the Jack in The Box to get the three count, the people roared their approval and Griffith punched his ticket to the next round of the tournament.

In a decent match, Jack Griffith defeated Richie Riggins in 8:45 by pinfall with a Jack in The Box.

gUMXSOo.jpg

Michaels: “And Jack Griffith is on to the next round. Tonight we saw Griffith and Justice Jolson punch their tickets to the semi finals. Who else will join them? Find out next week here on The Last Rebels. For Shane Sneer and everyone here at SCCW, I’m Peter Michaels. See you next time!”

Michaels: “Hello and welcome to another episode of The Last Rebels. Last week, we saw the first two matches in the Heavyweight Title tournament -- and we saw Jack Griffith and Justice Jolson win their respective ones to advance. Tonight, the last two quarter final matches will take place. Plus, the National Guard is in action and so much more.”

Sneer: “It’s a jam-packed format tonight, Peter. It’s the kind of action you won’t find anywhere else in the world right now. No wasted moments here in SCCW or on The Last Rebels. Every minute of time we have, we use to present the best wrestling action anywhere in the country.”

Michaels: “And that action starts right now with the “American Eagle” Roger Monteiro going one to one with the flower-child, the free-love supporting hippy, Melvin Otto!”

“American Eagle” Roger Monteiro versus Melvin Otto

The fans are still figuring out how to feel about Monteiro -- who has great energy and a lot of potential, unlike Otto who was clearly disliked by them. Southern fans aren’t much for hippies and Otto played into it really well throughout the match. They didn’t do anything that tore the house down, but they did the job of making Monteiro look like a young star when Otto sold the Eagle Chop brilliantly -- it is clear the Otto is getting better as a performer.

In a bout that didn't have much heat and terrible wrestling, Roger Monteiro defeated Melvin Otto in 6:01 by pinfall with an Eagle Chop.

2MnrCLE.png

Michaels: “Another big win for Roger Monteiro. He’s been on a roll since coming to SCCW. If he keeps winning, he’s bound to enter the conversation for a shot at the Southern Heavyweight Title.”

Sneer: “Let’s not put the cart before the horse now, Peter. He’s looked good so far, but he’s got a lot to prove before he can get in that conversation. I don’t want to see him lose it all before he really gets started.”

MSsiD5w.jpg

“Straight A” Ricky Douglas came to the ringside area to be interviewed by Peter Michaels.

Douglas: “In just a little while, I’ll be stepping into the SCCW ring with the opportunity of a lifetime. It’s me versus Riley McManus. The boy from Georgia. The good ole southern boy. A hell of a wrestler. But he’s not pure of mind and body like I am. I’m sure last night he went out and had a couple of beers to get ready for this match. Had to get his mind right, but my mind is clear. My body is clean and tonight I have the opportunity to advance in the Southern Heavyweight Championship tournament and I will. I will succeed over Riley just like I’ve succeeded over all of you by keeping my mind clear. No alcohol. No drugs. Nothing. A clean mind and a clean body. It will lead me to the promised land of the Southern Heavyweight Title.

Michaels: “Ricky Douglas is definitely ready for his quarter final match up with Riley McManus later on this evening.”

Sneer: “He needs to be. Riley’s been one of the top stars in the Southern Independent scene for years. He’s here in SCCW to make a statement and prove to the world that he belongs in the conversation as one of the best. Ricky Douglas is definitely going to have his hands full.”

Michaels: “You’re right about that. Up next, the National Guard is in action against the team of a young man who goes by the name Cobra and the veteran big man, Land Mass. Land Mass is another guy who is looking for a full-time contract opportunity here in SCCW and a win here tonight would definitely help him achieve that.”

Sneer: “Every match, every win counts. I can’t stress that enough, Peter. This is pro wrestling as it was meant to be. Men competing for something. Trying to prove that they’re the best.”

National Guard versus Cobra & Land Mass

The crowd was excited to see the National Guard -- who responded with a salute that got the ol’ “U-S-A” chant going on before the opening bell even rang. Land Mass didn’t seem impressed with the two rookies and tried to teach them a lesson, but neither man was willing to be bullied around and the veteran quickly found himself having bitten off more than he could chew. As soon as he lost control and the match became about actual grappling -- something he never was great at to begin with -- he retreated to tag in Cobra. The mysterious youngster from the Florida Everglades really played up the psychological aspect of his character to keep the opposition guessing, but the Silencer managed to keep a cool head. At least he did, until Sgt. Bubba Lee West marched to the ringside area to get a frontline view of things. His presence seemed to throw the Silencer off, who tagged in his partner and looked to be going after West, but the whole scene also created a precious diversion that Desert Storm capitalized on to surprise Land Mass -- who in the meantime got the tag -- and get him down to the mat for the three count.

In a poor match, National Guard defeated Cobra and Land Mass in 5:35 when Desert Storm defeated Land Mass by pinfall by. This match also saw Sgt. Bubba Lee West distract The Silencer.

2MnrCLE.png

oQRL1Fz.jpgHqwlEac.jpgHYre8mQ.jpg

During the finishing sequence of the match, the Silencer and Sgt. Bubba Lee West lock up into a brawl, but as soon as the pin is scored, Desert Storm rushes out to assist his teammate and West, knowing this is a battle he can’t win right now, makes a tactical retreat to the backstage area while staff rushes in to prevent the National Guard from chasing him.

AlNDyXF.jpg

2MnrCLE.png

Michaels: “Sargeant Bubba Lee West sure is hounding the National Guard, he almost cost them the match there.”

Sneer: “Almost cost them the match and almost got away with it, he only had time to trade a few punches with the Silencer before reinforcements showed up in the form of Desert Storm.”

Michaels: “But why do it? Is this some kind of mental game?”

Sneer: “Oh I’m sure the Sergeant knows all kinds of things about psychological warfare, but once again, wins and losses matter in SCCW. Just because that wasn’t a title match or a tournament match doesn’t mean it was for nothing, don’t forget the National Guard just pinned a veteran. They pinned a huge 400pounder in Land Mass!”

Michaels: “Speaking of big men, we got one of the most impressive of them up in action next, it’s the Hacksaw from Cobb County, Georgia, Findlay O’Farraday in his tournament match for a chance to become the next Southern Heavyweight champion!”

Regular Joe versus “Hacksaw” Findlay O’Farraday

Findlay continued his string of impressive performances in SCCW and this time his victim was “The American Everyman” Regular Joe. Trained by the late Shawn Gonzalez, Joe showcased some solid technical skills, but against the powerhouse that is Findlay O’Farraday, he just couldn’t pull off most them. Trying to suplex or take down the Hacksaw only angered him further and after a big offensive outburst, he almost cut Joe in half with the Atomic Spinebuster before scoring another pinfall victory in impressive fashion.

In a decent match, Findlay O'Farraday defeated Regular Joe in 5:50 by pinfall with an Atomic Spinebuster.

Y1aF9Ur.jpg

After the match, O’Farraday demands a microphone to speak his mind. Still in the ring, with his latest victim reeling by his feet, he begins to talk.

O’Farraday: “Since my very first match as a professional wrestler, I have been nothing short of unstoppable. I have made a name for myself in the Mid Atlantic, so bad that people would no longer agree to face me in the ring. That’s why I took a plane and flew over to Japan, looking for the toughest, roughest warriors I could find to defeat. So when I heard SCCW was bringing real wrestling back to America, I knew I had to be part of it. You’ve seen what I can do. Everyone of those fighting men in the back have seen what I can do. I don’t care who gets in front of me in this tournament, I am unstoppable and by the time it’s all said and done, I will be the first SCCW Southern Heavyweight Champion of the new era.”

D

2MnrCLE.png

Michaels: “Strong words from the Hacksaw, Findlay O’Farraday there”

Sneer: “You know how the saying goes, Peter, it’s not bragging if you can back it up. That man right there has proven time and time again, he can back it up. I would not want to be his next opponent in this tournament.”

Michaels: “Well let’s find out who the last man to go through the quarter final stage of the tournament will be, because up next we’ve got another tournament match and it’s our main event for tonight, Riley McManus goes one on one against “Straight A” Ricky Douglas!”

Riley McManus versus “Straight A” Ricky Douglas

McManus came out with the American Flag ala Whistler. He got a great reaction from the crowd -- a crowd who naturally wants to like the young man from Georgia. Douglas was greeted by a chorus of boos. He’s already established himself as a foil in SCCW. Both of these men are technically-minded wrestlers. Grapplers who like to work holds and suplexes and not a lot of strikes and definitely no flips or anything like that. They went hold for hold. It was worked as a classic technical match -- with both men trying to wear the other one down. McManus kept trying to take out the leg of Douglas -- looking to set up for some sort of leg submission hold -- Riley uses several. Douglas focused on the neck of Riley McManus.

Douglas positioned himself between Riley and Alvin Lavin and used a mule kick to the groin to set up a DDT and the pinfall victory -- giving Douglas the spot in the semi finals.

In a decent match, Ricky Douglas defeated Riley McManus in 13:42 by pinfall.

After Douglas is announced as the winner of the match, “Southern Justice” Jack Griffith comes out to the interview area.

Griffith: “Man oh man, is SCCW bringing real professional wrestling back or what? That was one hell of a match we just saw, take nothing away from either competitor. I’d be honoured to wrestle either of you two gentlemen, but since Ricky Douglas there was the winner, I understand we’ll be meeting next week in the squared circle for a chance to be in the main event of Tennessee Tussle and compete for the Southern Heavyweight title. Now Ricky, I heard you speak earlier tonight and I saw you wrestle just now. I respect what you bring to the table. That is why I’ll bring my best for our match next week. I hope you do just the same.”

Michaels: “What a match that will be, Jack Griffith versus Ricky Douglas, which means our other semi final match is a real clash of the titans as Justice Jolson will get in the ring with Findlay O’Farraday!”

Sneer: “No flipping and diving in SCCW, just real tough men, professional athletes, fighting each other to be the best. That’s what you’ll get in both those matches, that’s what you get with every episode, every match on the Last Rebels and that’s certainly what you can expect to get at our Tennessee Tussle show later this month!”

Only thing is, one has to lose for the other one to win!”</p><p> </p><p> Opening Match</p><p> Fifteen Minute Time Limit</p><p> <img alt="wuMnMdy.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wuMnMdy.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="2rRLoHs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/2rRLoHs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="0RGSI7t.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/0RGSI7t.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> “Old School” Rick Sanders versus Riley McManus</p><p> </p><p> They say “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and Riley McManus did just that, coming out once again with the flag as a nod and tribute to Whistler since that seemed to get a good reaction last time around. Sanders once again led the match and kept things at a pace his veteran body could handle, while telling another tale of him going toe to toe with a young prospect. Given the technical style of his opponent, this was much easier to do than when he faced the powerhouse Jolson in the tournament and the two men had a solid, grapple-heavy contest, with the athletic youngster from Georgia winning the fans over but not the match as well. McManus worked the fans a second too long when he had Sanders in a set up position for his Slingshot Suplex finisher, an opening the veteran was able to exploit in order to escape, take the young grasshopper to the mat and apply a Figure Four Leglock to squeeze a submission out of him.</p><p> </p><p> In a decent match, Rick Sanders defeated Riley McManus in 10:17 by submission with a Figure Four Leglock.</p><p> <img alt="gUMXSOo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/gUMXSOo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="2MnrCLE.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/2MnrCLE.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="47132" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><p><img alt="Szghv3F.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Szghv3F.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="LkAVZkW.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LkAVZkW.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><div style="text-align:center;"></div><p> The Flex Express come out for an interview, taking the time to strike all sorts of poses on their way as they display their ripped physiques.</p><p> </p><p> Riggins: "Take a look at this man... Jolson has been positioned as a big up-and-coming babyface with his painted face and his chiselled physique and this was an opportunity for him to step into the ring with the guy being positioned as the main heel in SCCW. “Hacksaw” Findlay O’Farraday was head-and-shoulders the best thing of the night. The big man just gets it and was really in a zone getting to work with another hoss tonight. The crowd was definitely excited for everything these men did. It was a slugfest, with each guy getting to showcase their power. Findlay sold several big slams from Jolson -- and Findlay doesn’t really go up for many guys, so the fact that he did here really made Jolson look like a force to be reckoned with. Findlay did unload with a barrage of heavy forearms that set up the huge Atomic Spinebuster that he has used for years. He got the win and a spot in the finals of the tournament.</p><p> </p><p> In a decent match, Findlay O'Farraday defeated Justice Jolson in 11:18 by pinfall with an Atomic Spinebuster.</p><p> <img alt="7EqFCw6.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7EqFCw6.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="2MnrCLE.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/2MnrCLE.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Michaels, “A big win for Findlay O’Farraday tonight, but Justice Jolson was very impressive.”</p><p> </p><p> Sneer, “Impressive in a loss that is still a loss, Peter. And we have our first official member of the finals! At Tennessee Tussle we know that “Hacksaw” Findlay O’Farraday will be competing for the Southern Heavyweight Championship! And it’s going to be hard to bet against the big man.”</p><p> </p><p> Michaels, “I know I wouldn’t want to have my money on someone else, but then again I’m not a betting man for that reason. Up next, we will hear from Ernie Turner -- the manager of the reigning Southern Tag Team Champions -- The Tennessee Outlaws -- regarding Tennessee Tussle and the sixteen year rivalry between the Outlaws and the Maryland Alliance.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="47132" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><p><img alt="wyLHFJZ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wyLHFJZ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><div style="text-align:center;"></div><p> Ernie Turner comes out to the interview set. He is alone. </p><p> </p><p> Turner, “When the SCCW returned, I told y’all very clearly that the Tennessee Outlaws were going to pick up where they left off. They were going to pick up as the Southern Tag Team Champions and that’s what they did. Because I am an honest man and when I tell you it’s going to rain on Sunday you know it’s going to rain and if I tell you to bet on a horse you bet on that horse and if I tell you that the Tennessee Outlaws are going to win you know that they are going to win. But the Maryland Alliance couldn’t accept that. They want another go. They want the Outlaws one more time and I was inclined to deny their request because quite frankly, the Outlaws don’t have anything left to prove -- but then I thought better of it. Brady… Buck… You want the Tennessee Outlaws? You want one more shot at the Southern Tag Team Championship? Well I say we finish this thing once and for all. I say we end this rivalry for good. So here’s the deal. If you want a shot at the Southern Tag Team Titles- - you can have one. On one condition. Whoever gets pinned, whether that is one of my guys or one of you two -- whoever it is -- they have to leave SCCW for good! No excuses. No exceptions. If y’all want the opportunity, Whistler has the contracts. You can sign on the dotted line and we’ll see you at Tennessee Tussle.”</p><p> <img alt="EjdrcWN.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/EjdrcWN.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="2MnrCLE.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/2MnrCLE.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Michaels, “What a major stipulation announced by Ernie Turner. I don’t know if the Maryland Alliance is going to accept, but if they do -- it will mean the end of one of the most legendary teams in SCCW history!”</p><p> </p><p> Sneer, “If they want to end this rivalry, they’re going to have to accept and the stakes should be high! Sixteen years these teams have gone back and forth. They’ve bled. They’ve beaten the holy hell out of one another. It is about time for them to finish the damn thing and I hope they do.”</p><p> </p><p> Michaels, “Stay tuned to SCCW.com to find out if the Maryland Alliance does accept. They don’t care that he’s not the athlete he was all those years ago when he was putting on incredibly performances for the crowds each and every time. Nostalgia can give you blinders, but despite Griffin’s body not being what it was his mind is still as good as ever. Douglas was a good opponent for him. They were able to work slow and tell a story. Douglas targeted the back of Griffith and really worked it over -- trying to prevent Jack from being able to hit the Jack in the Box. A missed clothesline allowed Jack to really fire up and make that big Southern-style comeback he’s known for and then hit the Jack in the Box and get the pin.</p><p> </p><p> In a decent match, Jack Griffith defeated Ricky Douglas in 10:24 by pinfall with a Jack in The Box.</p><p> <img alt="gUMXSOo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/gUMXSOo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Michaels, “And there we have it! Jack Griffith is heading to Tennessee Tussle to go one on one with “Hacksaw” Findlay O’Farraday for the Southern Heavyweight Champion. Can Southern Justice prove that the wide-eyed Southern boy still exists deep in his soul, can he reach inside of himself and find the wrestler that set the world on fire and reclaim the championship he has held two times previously? Or will Findlay O’Farrday -- who for years has been one of the most dominant professional wrestlers anywhere in the world -- become the Southern Heavyweight Champion and add his name to that prestigious list of greats? We will find out at Tennessee Tussle. For Shane Sneer and everyone here at Southern Class Championship Wrestling, I’m Peter Michaels saying thank you, good night!”</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="2MnrCLE.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/2MnrCLE.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Show Rating</strong></p><p> <img alt="EjdrcWN.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/EjdrcWN.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p>

Peter Michaels looked up from his desk across the small office to where Shane Sneer was verbally eviscerating some poor fool over the telephone who had messed up on printing the flyers for the Tennessee Tussle. The show was set to really be SCCW’s return to prominence. A live special that was not being broadcast anywhere except for the live fans and the SCCW.com crowd. It was a hugely important show. Pulling it off could mean that they had cemented the SCCW’s comeback. Failing to pull it off could mean that despite being a solid TV product in the markets they were on, they would have proven to not be anything worth taking seriously. The flyers had to be perfect. The presentation had to be perfect. They were leaving the GBG studios for this one. They were headed to a regular venue where hopefully their fans would still turn out to see them.

They had spent the first four weeks of television building to this show. It had started with putting the tag titles back on the Tennessee Outlaws. It was a gamble, Pete knew that -- but Shane was confident in Pete’s plan. The Outlaws had been the top heel tag team in SCCW history (followed closely by the Dallas Wrecking Crew and the Southern Assassins). The Outlaws had been bankable stars and a credible team and had been a unit that the fans took seriously. While Blackjack was definitely a declined physical specimen who had been retired for years, he was still scary and believable. Ernie was a great substitute for Herb Stately. Ernie had been a solid worker, but Ernie could really talk and as time went on, Pete knew that Ernie would get even better.

Pete looked down at his booking book. It was a big ledger book that Pete could keep track of all the information on. Sure, it was 2016 and most people used a computer, but Pete was over fifty and while he was savvy enough with technology to use it, he also didn’t want to rely on it. Not for the booking decisions. This allowed him to keep the shows in order -- it allowed him to track financial information that he was interested in -- ratings, advertising, etc. Sure, Shane negotiated all the advertising deals, but Pete wanted to know how that was being used and changing. He wanted to know who was selling the merch and how much of it they were selling. Pete was a details man. He was interested in the minutiae of running a company. It is what made him successful.

“God damn you’ll get me new flyers or I’ll come down there and knock every window out of that place.” Shane sneered into the phone. He was not a happy man and was living up to his last name.

Pete rolled his eyes. He should probably step in, but he wouldn’t. Shane’s job was to handle that stuff. So far it had worked well. It had been a successful union that had consistently driven ratings, attendance, and money up. It helped that they were planning backwards. They knew where they wanted to go and had mapped out how to get there.

Pete’s attention was once again grabbed by Sneer who had slammed the phone down into the receiver -- Sneer still liked to use an office phone, especially for business.

“Those --” Sneer started to say something that would most likely have been profane, but he stopped himself. “I’ve got to watch it. Can’t use that kind of language at the GBG studios.” He inhaled and exhaled. “They didn’t want to make good, but they’re going to.” Shane exclaimed. “They don’t want to lose our business, after all. We’re going to be printing a lot of flyers after this show.”

Shane was supremely confident in the direction SCCW was heading. It was his baby. His brainchild. He had worked tirelessly to get it off the ground. He had worked with the Gibson Broadcasting Group on the timeslots and the coverages and on making sure that everything was correct -- from the way the corner pads fit on the turnbuckle to making sure the apron was the right color to not show sweat. In the four weeks that SCCW had been back on the air, Shane had practically lived at the office that GBG had given them. He had practically spent all of time editing or mixing the shows. He worked with the guys on promos the day before. Made sure they were ready to go. He wanted this to be perfect. The bags under his eyes and the trashcan full of Sprite Zero cans and fast-food wrappers were an indication that Shane was spending too much time at the office but it was also an indication of the kind of passion he breathed into SCCW.

“Well I’m glad they’re going to fix their mistake.” Pete replied to his friend and partner.

“Me too. I would have hated to have to break all the windows in that place.” Shane said with absolute seriousness.

Pete just rolled his eyes and looked at his card. “This should be a good show. It should be a damn good show.”

Shane, “I’m hoping so. We need to make a statement with this card. We need to make sure the wrestling world understands that we are here and we are taking ourselves seriously. They need to know that we are determined to bring professional wrestling back to the mainstream consciousness. We’ll never take down the Eisens or Packers of the world because we don’t have their kind of money. They’ll be able to be in business because they can keep flooding their companies with money. We don’t have to take them down, we just have to show them that we are serious. We are going to cut our piece of the pie out and we are going to be here for the long haul. We are going to make sure that wrestling fans, real wrestling fans, have a damn outlet.”

Pete only half listened. Shane was known for going on rants about a wide variety of topics. He would lose himself into whatever had pissed him off. Wrestling. Coffee being too hot. The price of something. Shane loved to hear the sound of his own voice and Pete had gotten good at tuning him out and letting him rant.

Pete looked up when he could tell Shane was finished. “I’m telling you. This is a good card. We’re going to make noise. We’re going to crown a champion. We’re going to have a loser of the fall leaves town match. We’re going to set up programs and feuds and really get people ready to go.”

The two nodded at each other and once again Pete looked down at the card…

Tennessee Tussle

SCCW Presents: Tennessee Tussle

Live on Sun W4 Jan 2016 at The Sweat Box in Atlanta, Georgia in front of 590 people

kPzRGn7.jpgOzvzrHe.jpg

Michaels: “Hello and welcome to Southern Class Championship Wrestling’s first major event since its rebirth. We are here tonight in the Sweat Box in Atlanta Georgia. The crowd here tonight is raucous and they are ready for professional wrestling to be back in Atlanta. I’m Peter Michaels and once again I’m joined in the broadcast booth by the legendary Shane Sneer.”

Sneer: “It’s been thirteen years since the SCCW was last in Atlanta and here we are! What a night it will be. The Southern Heavyweight Championship will be decided tonight when “Southern Justice” Jack Griffith, the former two-time Southern Heavyweight Champion looks for career redemption against “Hacksaw” Findlay O’Farraday -- the big man from Cobb County, Georgia. That’s going to be one hell of a fight, Pete. Two men, two grown men, with something to prove. With something to earn. It’s what this sport is meant to be.”

Michaels: “You’re absolutely right there. To those of you not here live, but who purchased the DVD thank you for spending your money to support the movement. For those of you watching this live on SCCW.com, we know you are ready for one hell of a night of action and without further adieu --”

HYre8mQ.jpg

Peter Michaels is interrupted by the arrival of Sgt. Bubba Lee West. He is alone and he grabs a microphone from the desk in front of Peter. Despite being in a bigger building, it is still the same basic set up -- just more people in attendance.

West: “I said I’d get me two fighting men and whip them into shape for tonight and by God that’s just what I did! Let me introduce you to my troops for tonight, Melvin Otto and Cobra!

Sy6ycqC.jpglAsundQ.jpg

Melvin Otto and Cobra come out and join West. The crowd is livid for the dreadlocked hippy with a mix of boos and mockery, but don’t really know how to feel about the mysterious youngster and the live snake he carries around with him.

West: “I know Melvin here wants to take down the National Guard just as bad as I do and I don’t care what these fans here think, I’ve seen more than one flower power hippy turn into a war machine once they’re dropped in them jungle warzones, so just wait until this specimen is between the ropes and that bell rings! Then you got the snake man, Cobra, joining us. I’m telling you right now, I’ve seen him wrestle a live python in the Florida Everglades, he can put an anaconda in the anaconda vice and the clutch in cobra clutch, he is the real deal! Tonight I’m leading this team to battle and the National Guard better bring their A game against us!”

National Guard & Justice Jolson versus Sgt. Bubba Lee West, Cobra, & Melvin Otto

Justice Jolson got a good reaction from the audience as he came out with his red white and blue face paint to join the National Guard. He also started the match against Cobra, who patiently circled the big powerhouse looking for his chance. Cobra’s evasive ways frustrated both fans and Jolson, the big man from Pittsburgh eventually swinging wild and missing. Cobra shot for the legs but just couldn’t take down the massive Jolson, who finally got a hold of his opponent and began throwing him around in a showcase of strength, before tossing him to the heels’ corner, daring them to make a tag and send another man in to face him. After a short argument on the apron between West and Otto, the much despised hippy entered the ring but demanded to face either of Jolson’s teammates instead. Desert Storm requested the tag and got it, locking horns with Otto in a short exchange that proved this hippy can do some things in the ring indeed. Of course, straight wrestling isn’t what Melvin Otto is about and thanks to a sneaky eye rake, Desert Storm ended up in the wrong corner of the ring, where his opponents used quick tags to wear him down and cut him off his teammates. The turning point came when West whipped him to the ropes and Storm met the Sargeant’s incoming lariat with a desperate clothesline of his own, leading to a stand-off. Storm crawled to his corner and finally gave the hot tag to the Silencer as fans went wild to finally see him square off against West. This was quickly shot down when West tagged in Otto, who was eager to fight but easily got outwrestled by the Silencer, who worked the fans leading up to the big finish where Jolson finished Otto off with the Death Penalty for the pin.

In a poor match, Justice Jolson and National Guard defeated Sgt. Bubba Lee West, Cobra and Melvin Otto in 5:44 when Justice Jolson defeated Melvin Otto by pinfall with The Death Penalty.

2MnrCLE.png

Sneer, “Justice Jolson continues to look impressive here, Peter. That big man has a bright future ahead of him. Even though he lost to Findlay O’Farrady in the Southern Heavyweight Title tournament, he’s going places. Mark my words.”

Michaels, “Consider them marked. Up next we have a tag team match pitting the fourth generation luchador, El Mitico Jr and the proud native son that is the American Eagle Roger Monteiro against the team of Steel and Richie Riggins, known collectively as the Flex Express. This is the first time we will see both teams in action. The Flex Express is looking to get themselves involved in the mix here in the tag division and a win for them could help raise their status -- while Mitico Jr. and Monteiro are looking to continue establshing themselves as players here in the SCCW.”

El Mitico Jr. & “American Eagle” Roger Monteiro versus The Flex Express

Mitico and Moteiro seemed, visually at least, like an odd pairing against the musclebound Flex Express but once the bell rang, they were off to a hot start. Using their speed, agility, youthful energy and plenty of quick tags, they came at their opponents from all angles to catch them by surprise, an outburst that ended with a beautiful suplex from Mitico on Steel for a near fall. The Flex Express retreated to the outside in order to regroup and when Riggins got back inside, he leaned forward and offered a free headlock to Monteiro. The proud Native American jumped on the chance to prove himself, but it turned out to be a trap that saw Monteiro lifted up and then slammed down to the mat by “The Body”. The Flex Express took over from that point and Monteiro took a beating that really had fans cheering for him, though the eventual got broken up by Mitico to keep the match going. The energy seemed to revitalize Monteiro, who had a burst just good enough to create some space and tag in Mitico. The masked man from Mexico entered the ring with a fire in his eye and returned the favor, challenging Steel to a test of skill. The ever confident strongman’s ego would not let him back down and despite his strength advantage, Mitico got the best of the exchange, chaining holds to end up behind Steel as he used the big man’s weight against him in order to take him down. Despite a brave attempt at a submission, Steel had enough left in the tank to make it to the ropes and force a break. Seeing an opportunity, Mitico tagged Monteiro who ascended to the top rope in order to deliver the Eagle Chop but Steel noticed him as he was using the ropes to pull himself up. A vigorous shake of the top rope threw Monteiro off balance and sent him crashing to the canvas, before Steel picked him up for a Sidewalk Slam that was enough to secure the three count.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, The Flex Express defeated Roger Monteiro and El Mítico Jr in 9:34 when Steel defeated Roger Monteiro by pinfall with a Sidewalk Slam.

Michaels, “The Flex Express was just too much tonight for the youngsters. They are headed to big places. Up next, Riley McManus and Regular Joe team up for the first time to take on Old School Principals.”

Riley McManus & Regular Joe versus Old School Principals

McManus and Joe came to the ring to a lot of applause. Two young, patriotic, clean cut babyfaces. Their opponents? The ultra-old school, Old School Principals -- and this was a very old school tag team bout. It was slow. Mauler and Sanders controlled the match -- isolating Regular Joe from Riley -- which is probably for the better because Riley did look a little off of his game when he was in the match. He might have been under the weather or just had his mind someplace else. Mauler kept looking for the claw on Joe, but Joe was able to fight out of it and make the diving tag to Riley. Riley cleaned house with that Southern babyface fire that got the crowd up off their feet. Riley hit the Slingshot Suplex on the Masked Mauler and that was all she wrote.

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Riley McManus and Regular Joe defeated Rick Sanders and The Masked Mauler in 10:26 when Riley McManus defeated The Masked Mauler by pinfall with a Slingshot Suplex.

Sneer, “It is time for one of the two big marquee matchups of tonight, Peter and this promises to be a fight. A fight sixteen years in the making. A sixteen year journey to get to tonight. To the Southern Tag Team Titles and the loser of the fall having to leave SCCW for good. Tonight, either the Maryland Alliance or the Tennessee Outlaws will be done as a team in SCCW forever. Tonight, a story ends. It’s not going to be pretty. It’s going to be uglier than a pig with lipstick on it, but darn it if it’s not going to be a fight.”

This match had a lot on the line and both teams knew that. It wasn’t a great match from a technical standpoint, but it didn’t need to be. This was a fight. This was two teams trying to avoid being broken up and having their runs ended. The person who gets pinned is gone for good -- and this had a lot of pinfall attempts. Alvin Lavin had a tough time at times keeping control of the match. Both teams just wanted to brawl and Lavin did give them a lot of leeway with the titles and a career on the line. Brady Prince was really on fire in this match when he, despite being thirty-pounds heavier than his first run in SCCW, actually did a dive onto the outside of the ring onto Blackjack Robbins. The only problem with his dive is that it left Buck Graham alone with Whisky Jack -- who took the opportunity to hit the Face First Suplex and get the pin. The Outlaws retained and Buck Graham is gone.

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, The Tennessee Outlaws defeated The Maryland Alliance in 9:41 when Whisky Jack defeated Buck Graham by pinfall with a Face First Suplex. The Tennessee Outlaws make defence number 1 of their SCCW Tag Team Championship titles.

The Tennessee Outlaws are in the ring with Ernie Turner, who is handing them the Southern Tag Team Titles. They are celebrating with the National Guard comes to ringside. The Silencer grabs a microphone.

Silencer, “Great match. Great title defense. You boys are some fighting champions. Two tough bastards being led by an equally tough bastard. Desert Storm and I, we respect that. We respect what you’ve done in this business. We’re soldiers. We’ve been to war. We respect tough men. But tonight, Desert Storm and I won too. The National Guard and Justice Jolson were successful and now me and my partner, we got our eyes on you two. We want those Southern Tag Team Titles. So why don’t you boys heal up and get ready for another war and we can do this thing?”

Michaels, “The Maryland Alliance are done as a tag team… Buck Graham is leaving SCCW and the Tennessee Outlaws are still the Southern Tag Team Champions. They have a new challenger stepping up, but let’s not overlook the incredible SCCW career of Buck Graham.”

Sneer, “Twice he was co-holder of the Southern Tag Team Champions. He had a great run. He is tougher than a two dollar steak but it is over for him tonight. The question is, what is Brady Prince going to do? Is he going to stick around? I have no clue.”

Michaels, “I don’t know but I do know that up next we will determine who the Southern Heavyweight Champion is. Will it be Jack Griffith, the two-time champion looking to capture his youth once again? Will it be Findlay O’Farraday, looking to add another trophy to his trophy case?”

Sneer, “I don’t know. I do know that Findlay O’Farraday only got to the building a few minutes ago. He flew here right from Japan where he has been working -- and right after the match he has to catch a plane to fly back. He’s one of the most well traveled men out there today and tonight he has the chance to become the face of Southern Class Championship Wrestling.”

"Southern Justice" Jack Griffith versus "Hacksaw" Findlay O'Farraday

It was finally time for the main event of the evening and the people were ready for it. “Southern Justice” Jack Griffith, the former two-time Southern Heavyweight Champion -- a man who had been one of the stars of the original SCCW, along with Jesse Christian, Whistler, and Brady Prince. He had won over the Southern fans with his willingness to bleed and fight and put it all on the line. He was looking for redemption. A second chance at the glory he once had but squandered away with booze and pill bottles. Across the ring from him? “Hacksaw” Findlay O’Farraday. The monster from Cobb County, Georgia just over thirty miles north of Atlanta. He’s been a dominant force on the independent scene for over almost a decade.

This was the kind of match they used to have in the South on a regular basis. Jack came out hot, with fire and gusto and working quicker than Findlay. The big man cut him off and went to town. A master of the Spinebuster, Farraday focused his attack on the lower back. A big bearhug that seemed to go on for eternity and almost put Jack away. A sidewalk slam that looked like it could have broken the ring -- and even a big powerslam that got a near fall. O’Farraday whipped Griffith off and looked for the Atomic Spinebuster but Griffith countered with a DDT that made him look like the old (or maybe young?) Jack. The crowd came off their feet as Jack fired up and hit the Jack in the Box and got the three count and become the first SCCW Southern Heavyweight Champion of the new era.

In a decent match, Jack Griffith defeated Findlay O'Farraday in 14:30 by pinfall with a Jack in The Box. Jack Griffith wins the SCCW Championship title.

Michaels, “What a night we just had! We have a new champion! Jack Griffith is at the top of the mountain here in SCCW. Buck Graham’s career is finished and so much more. We are out of time. For Shane Sneer and everyone here at SCCW, thank you for joining us tonight. We will see you on The Last Rebels!”

Sweat poured from Jack’s body and dripped onto the gray canvas map. His hair was matted to his face and his body ached. He had been in the ring for closing in on fourteen minutes tonight. He hadn’t wrestled that long in a long time and Findlay O’Farraday wasn’t a slouch of an opponent. You couldn’t put in on cruise-control against him and come out okay. Findlay wanted to push the pace. He wanted to keep things moving. It is what had made him so popular in Mid Atlantic Wrestling. It was what was making him so popular for Black Canvas Grappling. For a guy his size, he pushed the envelope. He kept it moving. He sold moving -- he didn’t lay there dead and he attacked full-force.

Jack bounced off the ropes and came roaring back. It only took two steps -- you were supposed to be able to cross the ring in three and in the 18’x18’ SCCW ring, he bounced off the cables with no problem. Findlay was there, the big man ready for him. Jack summoned what he had left, the energy still in his beat up legs and when Findlay’s hands touched him Jack left the ground. He got as high as he could. He wanted every person in the Sweat Box to be able to see him. To worry that this was about to be it -- but it wasn’t it. He moved his body so that he could catch the big man’s head and on the way down. Findlay took it like a pro, letting his head get caught and then swinging down with the momentum for the DDT. The building came unglued. It was a great counter.

Jack got to his feet sluggishly. He needed the people to feel his pain. To feel his exhaustion. He was an old soldier. A warrior past his physical prime. He was selling that to this crowd. The old war horse trying to capture what he used to have. He grabbed Findlay’s sweaty head and pulled him up. The big man growled in a voice only Jack could hear. “It’s time.”

Findlay called most of the match. Despite Jack being the veteran, Jack believed the heel should call it. The heel should lead and Findlay was a great dance partner. Jack squatted low and lifted the big man up. Findlay went up for it. High too, higher than a six feet eight inch monster of a man should go up most of the time. Jack slammed him down into the mat and stayed ontop of him for the cover. The Jack in the Box. The lifting spinebuster into a pin that he had used since he was a rookie. The people knew this was it. No one kicked out of the Jack in the Box.

Alvin Lavin slid across the sweat-soaked mat into position and the fiery South Carolina fireman hit his count. One. Two. Three.

The bell rang and the match was over and the people roared and Jack rolled off of the big man. “Congrats.” Came the low, guttural speech of the big man who rolled out of the ring to the floor. It was Jack’s moment. All of the years of sacrifice. The years of struggle. The years where the booze won. Or the pills. Or the self-doubt. The self-loathing. The demons in his head that encouraged him to fail. The years of his career that he had lost to them. The success he had never tasted because the whiskey had burned his taste buds. Tonight. Tonight he was free.

He climbed to his feet and Alvin Lavin raised his hand and handed him the Southern Heavyweight Championship. It was his once again. Just over thirteen years after he had lost it to Whistler, it was his once again. Peter and Shane were trusting him.

He took the belt and he looked at it. He raised it to his face and let the metal plate touch his sweaty forehead and he swallowed back the emotions. He thrust the belt into the air. High above his head.

He was Jack Griffith. He was the Southern Heavyweight Champion. He was Southern Justice.
