"What Promotion Should I Start With"-Thread

I thought it would be a good idea to share your best recommendation for 2020 (and why it would be a good promotion to manage), in a similar way you see "what club should I manage?"-threads for other manager-games.

 

So, what promotion do you generally recommend? I'm completely new to the C-Verse, always played RL mods ever since EWR, so my question is ... Is there a promotion similar to ECW / ROH sort of that tolerates multiple styles with a bigger focus on wrestling but also appreciates 10%-30% of angles? Where I can throw in a little bit of strong style, hardcore wrestling, as well as highflying and technical wrestling?

I'm kind of bias to ACPW being my favorite company but they are perfect assuming they stay alive in TEW 2020. Fast paced and really only built for lightweights and action packed matches (Although not very technical based at all). Another Canadian promotion could be 4C, Fast paced and hard hitting style also built in Canada, very dynamic if you lower the match ratio a tad. Personally what I would choose if I were you. In terms of American promotions, CZCW is more like an ECW, having many ties with Lucha styles and built as "Explosive Action", and is right in the thick of Regional popularity. MAW and RIPW are also kind of simple companies with a lot of future talent although based more on entertainment. These are all as of 2016 C-Verse so awaiting what changes happen in 2020 could change some of these recommendations. Hope this helps!

Assuming they're in a similar shape to how they were in 2016, OLLIE is a good choice. Regional, but with enough money and options for TV that you don't have to worry about going broke or losing size immediately. It's also one of the rare pop > performance companies that doesn't require storylines, so you can just book whatever or use the auto-booker until you really get a feel for what's going on.

Yeah 4C feels like a good shout for your needs. If you wanted something more in the ECW mould then PSW or even DIW would be a good place to start. For the ROH style maybe CZCW or (if you don’t mind a larger company) TCW. But 4C feels like the closest thing to a combination of the two styles I think (Though I can’t say I’ve ever watched a huge amount of ROH).

RAW is a nice option for new players in 2016. If little changes, it should be again. In 2016, they were at little risk of invasion given the hassle of breaking into Australia. They had plenty of money, no strong local competition, and a roster that fits their product perfectly and has several options for future stars. Swoop is the perfect figurehead if he's still around.

If you like Ring of Honor, Total Championship Wrestling is probably the equal to that as it is a more in-ring based type of federation. They'll likely have fallen to Cult level (and hopefully alive), so unless they've changed that would be a way to go.

 

For an ECW type of federation probably Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling (PSW) is the way to go. Though in 2016, hardcore wrestling sort of fell to the wayside in the US in CornellVerse, so if you want a true Hardcore federation, you'd probably need to go over to Scottish National Promotions (SNP) in the British Isles to get exactly ECW style.

 

4C in Canada or ACPW (if alive) would probably be good promotions to work with. I would probably say 4C likely has a chance of still being alive in TEW2020.

 

Japan has Warrior Engine XXV (WEXXV) is definitely the ECW hardcore type of fed, though that leans more heavily into the brawling hardcore than having technical matches, so it might not be for you.

 

As for something RoH like in Japan, it probably is probably Pro Wrestling SAISHO (SAISHO). You'd think it would be Pride Glory Honor Wrestling (PGHW), but SAISHO actually is quite more Modern than PGHW. Hopefully Mito managed to keep it alive to start 2020.

 

Over in Europe, the European League of Fighters actually would fit the hard and fast pace matches you want in RoH. Though they are a singles only company, so that could turn you off.

 

Although someone mentioned OLLIE for Mexico, I'd say Extreme Modern Lucha Libre actually more fits the bill of being closer to the fast paced, technical wrestling that RoH does. Again like ELF, it is a singles only company.

 

There isn't really a company in Australia that matches the RoH style. Revolution Australia Wrestling (RAW) needs to boot their Modern style up as it currently has none, but would be easier. Whereas ZEN: Art of Wrestling (ZEN) is a lucha libre company that is quite Modern, so you just need to be a little more zany to make it fit.

 

As for a company that has Strong Style, Hardcore, High Flying and Technical, I'm afraid there really isn't a company that matches that (at least going by 2016). Though I will say, I'm tempted to make that in 2016 and see how it would work out.

SWF might be a go even if they're primed to be the "WWE" of the world. USPW as a WCW-like brand could work also.</p>

CZCW, its PGW with a lot of potential, and has a REALLY cool theme to it, being very stereotypical California.

Since the subject came up a post or two ago, if TCW dies what promotions play closely to them? Was thinking maybe NOTB or PGHW but IDK if there's better choices or not

<p>Gonna always recommend it for people who get into the Cverse for maybe the first time in Japan or even tried it before and couldn't lock it down.</p><p> </p><p>

PGHW is a fantastic starting point for Cverse Japan and the overhauls to the region should do even more wonders for it, its a small roster, but teeming with talent to carry you into longterm saves, doesn't need to rely too much on angles or storylines, just wrestling and more wrestling. When I first started Tew 2013, it really helped me learn the importance of stats in regards to matches and how to structure a card.</p>

I say start your own. Before you do, check the free agent talent pool. You will be intrigued. Afterwards, check every federation to see if you can steal any talent.

I'm looking for a company that's booking like WWE but with a little less angles more matches. Also i'd like it to be around Regional. I don't mind the region.

Can't say with any certainty until we know what's changed since 2016, but if they're still around, European Wrestling All-Stars may fit the bill. Regional European fed, mainstream is their key product with comedy/risque/hardcore at medium.

 

Down Under, Australian Pro Wrestling - Key traditional, heavy mainstream, medium hardcore may fit the bill.

 

Or if you want to give the women a try, in the US, Angel Athletic Association has Traditional/Mainstream as Key features.

Every company I'm looking at with TV looks too big and successful with huge rosters. Almost looks like there's nothing to do or fix or develop, because they're already winning. Of all of them, I guess TCW is probably in the worst situation, but they still have a massive roster and a ton of money. The loss of CGC is big here (as much as I like the idea of the CWA in general, CGC TV shows were REALLY fun to book.)

 

It looks like FCW might be able to get a TV deal in Puerto Rico once they're up a few more popularity points?

You can make a broadcaster pretty cheap (one with Tiny coverage in the US only costs about $50k), so I'd say just pick one you like for other reasons and give them TV if you like that.
