For those who are interested in the 98 mod...

 

I am nearly ready to release a beta. I am currently working on Michinoku Pro before I look to update a couple of defunct title histories and once these things are done, I will unleash it upon the World!

 

Below is what to expect (I just copied the white board in game).

Reminder: At this point, the original Mascara Sagrada was no longer in AAA and El Alibrije (aka Kraneo) was using the gimmick in AAA until the end of 1998.

 

Couple OVW notes: OVW Television title is set to retired as the belt didn't debut until until 2005. The Women's title is the same as it didn't come into the company until 2006. Although the Light Heavyweight wasn't around until 1999, I've set it as a secondary title that is Active due to it being close enough from its real debut. OVW is TV only with the odd Special event through the years. OVW rarely had any PPV Events - in fact most years it was just OVW TV. Obviously as the player, this doesn't effect you as you can set up all the events you like if you book them.

 

WAW note - They were open in 1994, however no rosters before 2000 are available online anywhere for them. I have set them as open with Ricky Knight, Saraya Knight, Zebra Kid and Jimmy Ocean as the only roster members. (whether you like the Knights or not, they are a big part of British wrestling and WAW should be in).

All wrestlers who died between Jan 1992 and Dec 1997 should be set as such. Same for any retirees (although there are bound to be oversights on a 5000+ database).

I been waiting for this exact period since TEW20 came out as my longest save on 16 (2-3 years iRL years) was the 97 post montreal mod from Genadi! And this looks to be the same level of quality if not even better!

Having a quick poke around in 98 mod, some stats seem low for guys who were breaking into the main event scene around this time and in the few years after. Guys like Triple H, Rock, Jericho etc.

I can see Rock probably could do with a slight bump in brawling, psych and experience (although he is only 3 years into his career). Rock was never an elite in ring worker at his peak let alone early on, he had a presence and charisma that set him apart (his sharpshooter is one of the worst variations I've ever seen - technically sound he was not).

 

Chris Jericho and Triple H would appear to be an oversight from updating the 1992 data. They should have better stats in 98, I agree.

 

I may need to go through the main rosters again. I thought I'd caught everyone and updated them to the time... clearly some have slipped through the net.

*Goldberg is set to "Occasional Wrestler" but he wrestled 148 times in 1998.

*Bobby Walker set as Occasional.

*Ernest Miller probably shouldn't start as an announcer? He commentated on Velocity a lot later in his career. Maybe change Announcer to Personality since he did do the Commissioner thing in WCW.

*Scott Steiner is listed as a Technician Flyer. This doesn't feel like it would have been accurate at any point in his career, but especially not in '98.

Ricky Steamboat is set as active and loyal to WCW.

 

Seems like a lot of peoples stats are off/low (maybe intentional), particularly in entertainment skills. Things I noticed is like Rey Jr. being 78/82 for fly/flash. Stone Cold 67 in Brawl. Chris Benoit brawl a 50. Maybe these are set low for a challenge? But then some people's are set more like where they should be ie Bret and Malenko's technical.

Playing the awesome 1992 mod...

Mr. Perfect's back injury prevents him from being a colour commentator on Superstars. Every segment just uses Vince McMahon on his own.

Sorry if anyone's asked this before but, in the 1992 mod, is there any reason why WCW World Championship Wrestling (that is, to say, WCW Saturday Night) is set as 2h? I have the episodes from January 1992 and they're all 90m with commercials. At first I considered that maybe they switched to 2h when they officially rebranded to Saturday Night in April but, no, it looks like those are also 90m.

I immediately fell in love with the mod when the first thing I did was check out Stone Cold and didn't see 80 in brawling and 3 100s in entertainment. Can't wait to check this out further.

Been streaming as I look at this and these are some things we noticed.

 

• The Outsiders is missing as a team

• NJPW has empty stables (Dragon Bombers and Raging Staff)

• WWF has PPVs outside of the big 4 and KOTR set as inactive

• The Undertaker needs his picture changed

• Yokozuna was on a deal with WWF until he was released in May 1998 but wasn’t working because of his weight issues

• Bruno Sammartino could use “Keeps Kayfabe” as an attribute as he was pretty vocal about his dislike of cartoony wrestling

• Royal Rumble title isn’t assigned to the Royal Rumble event and the King of the Ring isn’t assigned to King of the Ring as well.

• WCW/nWo Spring Stampede is missing a logo

• Minor detail but Scott Steiner didn’t debut the bleach blonde look until after he joined the nWo, he had his weird short hair and goatee before he dyed it.

• Kanyon should be able to play comedy gimmicks (or at least not be unable)

• Ted DiBiase needs an updated picture

• Van Hammer was just “Hammer” in Raven’s Flock

• Ricky Steamboat should be retired.

• Eric Bischoff should have at least a strong dislike of Honky Tonk Man.

• Alex Wright is missing being able to speak English

• Production for WCW needs a look as all their starting options are red listed and below what’s needed on some of their networks

• I believe in 1998 NJPW and WCW still had a talent trading agreement

• Typo in name of WWF “now” Way Out of Texas

• WWF could maybe use the NWA invaders as a stable

• Mitsuhiro Matsunaga needs a deathmatch wrestler attribute

• Owen Hart needs his stats looked at has 11 for experience and a few like technical seem low

• Terry Funk could probably use “Can’t Stay Away”, “Talent Spotter”, “Plays Offbeat/Unstable Well”, “Passes on Knowledge” and “Desperado” attributes

• Sam Houston is set to be married to someone outside of the wrestling business and to be married to Baby Doll

• Kanyon could do with a creative attribute because of him inventing moves and such.

• Feel like a lot more tags should have “Tag Team Specialist” attribute. Bobby Eaton, the Dudleys, Road Warriors and Rock N Roll Express for example

 

Really liking the look of the mod so far and hope these help

One thing I've noticed doing a build from another year are the number of things I thought I'd done but haven't. I know once all this is fixed though 1.0 is going to be worth playing.

I can't give a definitive date as it depends on the work needed to fix it up but I am hoping before Back 4 Blood comes out as that will be taking my focus away from, well, everything.
