So, what kind of broadcaster is everyone making?

Recommended Posts

And you have to pay for the exposure with the subscription model. A "Small" coverage area only breaks even once you reach 50 pop, so almost Medium.

If Medium is the analog for what used to be Cult, then the subscription model is working pretty much as planned. I make a ton of money on shows due to the exposure, but still lose money over the course of the month on the subscription broadcaster I run. Not near as much as I make with the popularity boost though, so it could cost a bit more. Also, in my game both the industry and the economy are good and going up. My guess is that helps.

I'm guessing one of the reasons it is so effective is the fact that USPW became #1 in the world due to that kind of provider. I feel like it is a nice way to get your shows seen without going to someplace you lose money, but it may need some balancing on the costs. And the computer should use it too.

I like the idea of being able to get your product out there, and it makes sense to be able to do so using modern technology, but at present it is removing the challenge from playing as a small company.

The finances overall for smaller companies are quite unbalanced; it may be that a combination of increasing worker costs and decreasing the profitability of own broadcasters (iPPV) will sort things out.

It is bad enough to be able to bring in huge income from your own broadcaster, but the effect is magnified when you're paying your elite wrestlers from all over the world a pittance, with no travel allowance!

This got me thinking about my game when it started and right away I had thought it was too high as well. Then I looked at it a little more.

Southwest is a big region population-wise. Utah, California, Nevada & Arizona. I know the game only has you run specific places for simplicity, but how many major cities (and probably mid-sized at Small) would you actually run and pull in crowds of 1,000 to 2,000 (at 40 to 43 pop). Then take into account that these towns would all have satellite towns where fans would come in from and you also wouldn't be getting the exact same fans each time. The 100k seems high-ish still, but then look at Northwest and Mid-South, the 2 spillover regions to fill in the rest. I imagine the Industry and Economy values play into this as well.

So you have all these fans scattered across 4 states and you would visit what, once every couple weeks (maybe) if you are running a ton of shows. So having the option of paying 15-20 bucks a month to watch the full shows might look pretty good.

As the system is, it's completely backwards that advantages small companies to the point of hilarity. I'm sorry but Bar Wrestling isn't setting up an iPPV broadcaster from nothing and isn't going to print money for the rest of time. IRL people use highspots, FITE, or they just distribute via a free internet platform like youtube, etc. The later doesn't have to even exist really because it makes them nothing, and basically nets them zero exposure to anyone who isn't actively searching for it already. I'm sorry but setting this stuff up to a degree that it's SEO and stable, consistent and is going to increase your pop gains or make you money is expensive. The better solution is just to add a Highspots/FITE/Youtube(Free) option inside the C-Verse for these companies and then HEAVILY gate this off so that it's a niche option for Hardcore feds that can't get on TV/Internet distribution for content reasons, or deep pocket feds looking to gamble at the low end. Everybody else should be Cult or over to use this.

I´m not sure how its in 2020... Up to 2020 you could distribute your events via internet. So you gaines a little exposure worldwide with out gaining money.

It even hurt in regands a merchandise a you woul not sell as many Event-DVDs

I´ve been playing around with the features to understand how the game works when launced...

I´ve started a Promotion from scratch (0 Pop everywhere) with 5 Mil.

After running 1 event I´ve set up a commerial Internet broadcaster (/Internet comercial) BIG in the US Tiny in Canada and Mexico.

Mondays a 2 hr live show and Tursdays a pre taped 2 hr show (Tape 4 Shows in one round).

While still insificant I made 170000 and 191000 TV-Viewers at my live Show ans arouns 90000 and 70000 with the taped show.

As I run unaired live events as well I have just risen to "tiny" so I´m curious if that has any effect on the ratings.

I´ve also set up an Internet-PPV Provider as well for my BIG Event once a month which will take place in aboute 2 Week (so after several shows to come still) I´m curious how my profit will be there

After 2 live and 3 taped shows I´ve already made over 65000 in Advertising whilst having arount 8000 in running costs .

The set up was at around 2,5 Mil so in the long rung that is a licence to print money.

I´m not sure if there is a suggestion Thread) so I´ll put this one here as it concerns boradcasters.

If another thread should make more sens feel free to tell me ;)

Concerning Brodcasters...

1) It would bee cool to have the possibility not only to INCREASE a Region but to decrease or shut down on as well. That would simulate "Geoblcking" quite good.

F.e. I run my show on my own internet Network and manage to get a TV deal in the USA. I´d like to block my content in the US jet air it in the Rest of the world over my Network. Real Worls example. Fite.tv airs AEW Dynamite wordwide, jet it is blocked in certain Contries as in my home of Germany for we could watch i on "TNTSerie" (a PAY TV Network)...

As I see it, the only way ingame right now would be shutting down my network and setting up a new one, but that would cost lots of (uneccesary) money

2)It would be cool, if I could air Shows of other Companies(not just children) much like WWE NEtwork did with evolve (and I think Impact does something like that as well?)

as a gameplay Example - as COTT Member I could open my Network an doffering other COTT Members Time Slots to air their Shows. That woul beneit me (revenue through the Network) the other Companies as they could air their content even if they ars to small fo a regular Network AND it woul benefit the COTT as they get more recognicion....

(The only way of doing something like that would be making the other COTT Members my Children - which I do not intend to - I think?)

Cult is medium.

I think people are listening a bit too much to WWE ("We need 1 million subscribers to break even"). An internet TV network distributed on Roku and the like can be created for $30-100k (sources: Brett Langfort of the Vape Network on Roku; 'Two Stoned Girls' on YouTube and Roku), depending on the number of platforms you wish to distribute on. The sticking point is content, do you have enough. If you go with primarily VOD, that's mitigated to a certain extent but you still want to have as much content as possible. I would imagine OVW doesn't need a million (or even a hundred thousand) subscribers to turn a profit.

Just seems like some people are advocating "fixing" broadcasting with a nuclear bomb, not a scalpel.

I feel like the sizes of broadcaster you can launch are a little crazy. In the base data, Reverie is an Internet Subscription broadcaster with Huge coverage across the United States (and more elsewhere) and my impression was that they're supposed to be equivalent to Netflix or something. I can't imagine that any wrestling company could ever launch something that would reach that many people, or if they did, I would think that the finances of that broadcaster would dwarf anything associated with the wrestling company.

It seems like the maximum size you can launch should be pretty small, or perhaps that beyond some maximum size, things flip so that they own you.
