Could you bring the game status back to the in-game editor?

Recommended Posts

I would like for you to bring back the option where you can change the status of a worker in the in-game editor. It's annoying how you can't change it because if somebody wants a realistic mod they may change the status of a worker to deceased; for example, Russ Hass for a save I want to keep playing until I get to present day set in 2001. Or it may be annoying to have somebody one hiatus even though by then they came back to wrestling. Please bring this feature back, it's a good feature to have and shouldn't have been removed in the first place.

<p>Based on some of the posts here I really think a lot of players play the game as a sandbox and don't like being put on a leash like this.</p><p> </p><p>

We've also seen plenty of times in pro wrestling that "retirement" is a very, very dynamic thing. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

There might be ways to manipulate this in-game using the talk-to-worker feature, but if you're like me and play some insignificant, unemployed dude, that's not going to work.</p>

Wow. This is a major oversight. Historical mods specifically allowed this to complete a narrative.

For example: playing the Montreal '97 mod, I changed HBK from an active wrestler after WM14 so that he was no longer part of the picture when his injury narrative popped up. When I eventually get to 2002, I'd change that back so he could wrestle again. As of right now, that isn't even possible with TEW2020?

I think the Narrative feature could be expanded upon to include things like retirements, comebacks, deaths, lengthy hiatuses, and what have you. I think deaths have been suggested, but it's been deemed too morbid. And while I understand, I also always feel kinda weirded out having, say, Chris Benoit hanging around in the database. But yea, retirements, comebacks, etc. It'd be nice to, at least, control those with Narratives - if the 2016 way of using the in-game editor is no longer viable. Maybe there's a coding limitation behind the removal because I think the in-ring/game statuses are treated differently in 2020, perhaps as part of the new perceptions feature. But that's me speculating.

Oh, and another thing that this was useful for was simulating celebrities. Now, I know that celebrities are not officially supported in TEW, and Adam himself has stated that celebrities should not be workers in the database because the game does not officially understand the difference between a worker and a celebrity. But it's still fun in 2016 to occasionally sometimes create a celebrity, bring him or her in for an angle, or the odd in-ring match. Especially since the introduction of Limited Involvement notes and whatnot. It's probably silly in "serious" gameplay, but it's fun, regardless. And in TEW 2016, you can create the celeb, bring him or her, have them do their thing, and edit them to Out of Business after you're done. In 2020, celebrities could be even more fun due to the new "draw" feature, and the fact that you can now pay outrageous wages to people you sign. So you could get the advantage of the "draw" of the celebrity, but as a self imposed challenge, you could also pay them a ridiculous sum of money.

I guess in 2020, they'll just stay in the database as regular workers in the game world.

You can try to use the new Talk to Wrestler feature, though.

This is true, which is sort of a silver lining. I guess that’s one of the things the feature was intended for. Although wouldn’t this really only work for retired wrestlers?

If I’m treating champagne lover like the rock, a guy who left the business for years and years and years and then made his return. Had two matches at mania two years in a row, and even won the WWE championship is second run. Is that no longer possible to do with the editor?

Or, can we talk to guys who have left the business and try to convince them to come back?

While I am not a fan of things being taken out and I do think it is cool to be able to bring somebody back from out of the business, I do get why you can't talk to a wrestler who is "out of the business" as that implies (to me at least) that they are completely done with wrestling.

I know people come back from retirement all the time in wrestling (looking at you Flair), but to me those guys never really left the business and are really just retired wrestlers.

I personally don't mind not being able to bring people back from "out of business" I can see why people would want to.

Yea, I do think that this is partially down to the mods, as well. Out of Business means completely, utterly, and absolutely done with pro wrestling. They will never come back, not for a million dollars. So, in essence, mods should mostly set inactive guys and gals to retired, meaning they're retired now, but will listen to offers if thrown their way - and this is 99% of people.

The difficulty for mod makers can come with situations like a Goldberg where a mod maker in 2015 probably would have set him as Out of Business - and his eventual comeback was actually a really big surprise.

But I think retired is the way to go for most inactive wrestlers and personalities.

Out of the business

We should be able to talk to Workers who are out of the business and try and convince them to return, or at least it should be in the editor as many workers have returned to the business after doing nothing in the business previously

Tiger Mask

Shawn Michaels (4 years is a tad long to argue a hiatus)

The Rock

CM Punk (No one expected him back and yet here he is)

Paul Heyman (non wrestler example)

Terry Funk (one could argue wasn’t a hiatus)

I’m sure there’s plenty more examples but thing is few people in the wrestling business truly leave the business in the end, to me I still think it’s weird Christian Faith hasn’t done anything (I could have predicted he’d be running SWF instead of the Eisens after their power switch), Champagne Lover could possibly return for the right price is another example

I’ve not been through every comment in here, so apologies if this has been brought up already. I’ve found a ‘work around’ for being able to simulate things like Shawn, Brock and The Rock leaving the business. Within the in-game editor it’s possible to remove all active roles for a wrestler, so unticking the boxes for wrestler/occasional wrestler etc. The character then won’t feature at all for said company.

You can then adjust their contact if you want them to leave the company, or just have them stay there doing nothing picking up a wage if you prefer. Then upon their return to the business you can re-tick the relevant boxes and have them come back into the wrestling world.

Not a big fan of work arounds myself but sure beats any alternative I’ve found to date
