ECW: Hardcore Revolution

Recommended Posts

Reaaaaaaally dig the format of this diary, concise and to the point!

I was really surprise at the signing of Bigelow who I don't imagine in 2001 ECW at this point. But him being a transitional champ to Mikey (whom I always loved, especially in his red dyed hair Unholy Alliance time) is really interesting

I like what you're doing in mixing up young ECW up and comer like Dinero or Kash (ok he's not really young at this point but he never made it) and interesting names like BG James and TAKA.

Really dig that TAKA/Crazy/Psicosis is your spiritual successor to Guido/Crazy/Tajiri also!

Keep up the good work :D

Thanks man. Keeping it short is just to make it easier for me but I'm glad others can dig it as well. :)

There'll be new signings fairly often, mostly short term but the occasional longer contract. And yeah, trying to replicate the Tajiri/Crazy/Guido Three Way Dances is a constant thing. :D

Mikey Whipwreck vs Bam Bam Bigelow (w/ Francine)

Bigelow is a man enraged and flattens Mikey from the start with a huge clothesline. Bam Bam uses his size advantage with a big falling headbutt for a close fall.

Joey Styles: “Mikey Whipwreck is getting hammered into the mat. Just like the first match, Mikey with no offence here. ‘The Beast From the East’ is taking his time dismantling the champion.”

This continues until Bigelow calls for the Greetings from Asbury Park.

Joey Styles: “Bam Bam hoists Mikey up, surely the end now… no! Mikey out the back door. Whipwreck rallying with punches, more punches, goes for the Whippersna- no! Bigelow with a brutal haymaker. Mikey is out. Wait! From behind, it’s…. Sandman??”

The Sandman strikes Bigelow full on in the face with the Singapore cane. And a second shot. The third knocks Bigelow to the mat. Sandman drags Mikey on top of Bam Bam and the referee counts three! Mikey Whipwreck is still the ECW World Heavyweight champion!! C-

You know what? I got a soft spot in my heart for some of late ECW's losers like EZ Money, Julio Dinero, Confederate Currency Chris Hamrick and Simon Diamond (and his DICK!) so this show gets a big up for me with the two first matches

The match/interference/run/in match is the kind of fast paced realistic booking that I loved with ECW. Everything just goes from cause to consequence and it feels so organic to me

I'm surprised Dreamer & The Hardcore Chair Swingin' Dadbods lost, PTP seem in line for a big push, maybe they'll go after Mikey?

Love the ending with the image of Sandman dragging the almost dead corpse of Whipwreck on top of Bigelow. This opens a huge feud between the Beast and Sandman, and i'm curious to see who's gonna be Mikey's next challenger

...but hey! Where was Steve Corino?...

Good show mate :D

Another two very authentic looking ECW shows.

BTE

Road Dogg was a fun one night surprise although I'm glad Corino picked up the win.

I'm not a fan of Axl Rotten but works well enough in advancing the PTP vs Dreamer fued.

I was super shocked Mikey won the belt and to be honest im hoping its not a long term thing because he is like 6 years beyond the shock underdog here but it was certainly a big talkiing point.

A great 3 way to round off the show.

AR

Hot Commodity & Co are looking to be a fun little stable, Im hoping they may have some other teams to face off against in the near future.

Glad to see Axl take the fall in the 6 man but I'm interested to see where the Dreamer PTP feud goes from there.

Kash and Nova with another fun match, I'd like to see Kash mix it up with Crazy/Psicosis etc for some stellar contests.

The Sandman interference made for a more compelling main event for me and I look forward to seeing what Bam Bam has in his mind for revenge.

Ps. Another ECW alumni I thought of that I would like to see - 2 Cold (unless he is under contract in Japan at this point).

Yeah, it's almost like a different ECW. An even more underdog one because by '99-'00 they'd lost most of their big names and these were the guys having to fill the spots. I admire them for that.

The match - interfererence - run-in - match will be a constant throughout the diary. No apologies. :D

Hardcore Chair Swingin' Dadbods got a pop. :D I'm at least a year ahead in game time so without looking in the game I genuinely can't recall what's going to happen next in these feuds. I think I know where Dreamer's heading though.

I like Corino. Can't remember what I did with him though.

It's been so long that I forgot about some of the lower level ECW talent I had to Google them haha. Great show though I can't wait to see what happens with Bam Bam and Sandman.

Some of those guys were ideal for ECW and then never really got on anywhere else. Doring and Roadkill being a prime example. I loved those guys!

I think there's a Bigelow/Sandman match coming up but please don't hold me to it.

Great show again. Sandman and Beast's feud gonna be money. But who will challenge Mikey next?

Stay tuned! ... because I literally can't remember.

Also, when I started playing this, I was determined that it wasn't going to made into a diary. So some stuff is thrown together without a great deal of thought. That said, when it changes to being played as a diary... you'll still see stuff thrown together without thought. :D

Yeah, Road Dogg was never winning. He was brought in as a quick pop and job. Mikey winning is my little fetish. His stats aren't great, his health is bad by this point and he's not overly charismatic - he shouldn't be champion, but this is ECW, so...

Hot Commodity are actually quite decent. Well, EZ and Dinero are. By the standards I have they're good workers. I can't remember if it's around this time that Kash starts becoming hard work. He's had a couple of injuries and just starts moaning. I've still got him at the moment (current game time) but I don't think I'll miss him when he goes.

I'd love Scorpio but he's been with AJPW since the game started. He's good as well. I don't see me getting him any time soon. :(

Thanks to all commenters for coming back. :)

Hello everyone, this is The Styles Report with me Joey Styles and let me tell you, if you missed our last event… things got wild.

Anarchy Rulz ended with The Sandman caning Bam Bam Bigelow in the head three times allowing Mikey Whipwreck to retain his ECW World Heavyweight Championship. There have been rumours that Bigelow stormed into the ECW offices and demanded a match with Sandman but that the request was denied as Sandman is already booked. Depending on who you listen to Bam Bam either quit, threatened to quit or was sent home by ECW management.

The fallout from this is that Bigelow is still in ECW’s plans but will not wrestle at the upcoming As Good As It Gets event. The latest news is that he will have a title shot a week later at Refuse To Lose against the winner of Mikey Whipwreck versus Steve Corino. But… conscious that Bigelow has already lost his last two title shots, ECW match-makers have said a third loss could end his spell with the company, at least for now.

So there you have it. Rumour, speculation or fabrication aside there are some interesting developments going on with ‘The Best From The East’ and the ECW World title picture.

What we do know is that at As Good As It Gets Mikey Whipwreck will defend his ECW World title against Steve Corino. Corino was absent from Anarchy Rulz but the matchmakers are said to be particularly impressed with his match against BG James a month earlier and made him the number one contender.

We will also see Tommy Dreamer team with The Sandman against Brian Lee and Simon Diamond. The epic Dreamer/'Prime Time' feud continues with no sign of reaching its conclusion.

And the ECW World Television Championship will be defended in a Three Way Dance as Kid Kash takes on the challengers TAKA Michinoku and Super Crazy.

All this and more at ECW As Good As It Gets. For tickets head to the ECW ticket-line or extremechampionshipwrestling.com.

Wasn't old enough to see ECW when it aired, but I enjoy watching a lot of their matches when I get a chance and watching old promo clips. The thing I enjoy the most about wrestling is the variety it can offer its viewer, and it seems to me like ECW did that just about as well as any promotion can. It's very easy to see why they had such a cult following for wrestling fans at that time. Reading this diary is like getting my own ECW to follow 20 years later. It's been very interesting so far, and I'm excited to see more of it!

You did an excellent job of blurring the lines here :p I have no clue if Bam Bam walked out on ya or what, or if it's strictly storyline. Great job though! I hope Corino beats Mikey tbh

Thanks man. It's so blurred it's like there was no planning and suddenly I had to come up with some kind of reason for why there was no continuity. :D

• Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman vs Brian Lee and Simon Diamond (w/ Dawn Marie)

This is a wild brawl with all four men busted open. Several near falls into the match Dreamer and Diamond exchange blows on the top rope before crashing through a table together on the outside.

“Dreamer and Diamond down. Dreamer was going for a superplex and they both took the plunge. I’m not sure who got the worst of that one.”

Back in the ring Sandman evades a Chokeslam from Lee and cracks ‘Prime Time’ across the head with his Singapore cane.

That main event certainly lived up to the shows name. It's unfortunate that you won't have TAKA for much longer, but at least he's really delivering for you while you've got him. As for Mikey, I love that he's building up a decent reign rather than being a fluke 1 or 2 month transitional kinda deal. Odds are looking high that he may make it into 2002 with the gold still around his waist, but given the crazy nature of ECW booking (that you continue to capture so well) I wouldn't bet on it! :D

Dude, thank you. I think Mikey’s got the belt for a little longer yet. Genuinely can’t remember. His ratings aren’t great but that’s kinda besides the point. He’s everyone’s favourite ECW bump merchant. Well, him and Spike anyway.

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of The Styles Report with me, Joey Styles. We are days away from another huge Extreme Championship Wrestling event and they don’t come much bigger than this.

At Refuse To Lose the ECW World Heavyweight Championship is on the line. Strap yourself in for Mikey vs Bigelow III. Whipwreck has been beaten to a bloody pulp by ‘The Best From The East’ in each of the two matches so far but has found a way to defy the odds and come out victorious. Now, in possibly his hardest fight yet, Whipwreck faces Bam Bam in an I Quit Match. Bigelow has said that if he doesn’t beat Mikey he will walk away from ECW and possibly professional wrestling altogether. The stakes have never been higher!

Elsewhere, The Sandman is looking for revenge. Steve Corino stole his cane and cost him the tag match with Tommy Dreamer against Brian Lee and Simon Diamond. Sandman is not the kind of guy to forgive and forget easily.

Continuing their feud we have a Number One Contenders match between Tommy Dreamer and Brian Lee along with a mystery opponent to battle it out in a Three Way Dance. The victor will challenge the winner of Whipwreck vs Bigelow III in two events time at November To Remember for the ECW World Heavyweight title.

And in the main event TAKA Michinoku will defend his ECW World Television Championship against the former champion Kid Kash. You will not want to miss this one.

Finally, it is with great pleasure I can reveal the relaunch of the official ECW Magazine. Buy it now at all good newstands.

Do not miss ECW Refuse To Lose. Mikey vs Bigelow III. I Quit match. Sunday 21 October 2001 at the Yanitelli Center, Jersey City, New Jersey. Tickets available from the usual places.
