Ring of Honor 20th Anniversary Preview

Saturday, March Week 4, 2022

oopkHhT.jpg vs. NpdrAYN.jpg

The World Championship will be up for grabs in a highly anticipated match. Two months ago EC3 outlasted five other men in the finals of Survival of the Fittest to earn himself a championship opportunity, which he gets tonight against World Champion Jonathan Gresham. The rivalry got kickstarted after Gresham’s last title defense as EC3 unveiled The Titan who leveled the champion with a massive chokeslam. EC3 then formed The Narrative, and they have been stating that they have never been given a fair chance, and here in Ring of Honor they are going to make their own chances. Gresham finally heard enough of what The Narrative had to say and in recent weeks has taken shots at his challenger, but with the presence of The Titan standing in front of EC3 it appears that the World Champion may have two men to defeat if he wants to keep his championship tonight.

Johnny Gargano has been very successful in his short time here in Ring of Honor, but starting shortly after his first pay-per-view victory he saw the apperance of Scarlett Bordeaux, who began to torment him and hint at the coming of Killer Kross. After weeks and weeks of threats through Scarlett and messages to Gargano, Kross finally showed his face on the screen last night, which has to have Gargano looking over his shoulder when he takes on a returning Chris Hero at the pay-per-view. Hero has taken advantage of how much attention Gargano has lost to Kross and leveled him in the ring once, and last night he made sure that Gargano knew that he could have taken him out again if he wanted to. The two men promise to have a great match, but the question looms over the action, how far away is Killer Kross from extracting the blood he wants from Johnny Gargano?

T1GFlgx.jpgXAIrXak.jpg vs. VNR7DcA.jpg6g7dKI9.jpg

The World Tag Team Championships are going to be up for grabs in a match between The Briscoes and The PBK, who saw Keith Lee return to the fold recently and earn himself and his partner Shane Taylor at title match at tonight’s pay-per-view. Lee has looked absolutely dominant since he’s returned to ROH, but he seems confused as to why his partner seems to want to take every shortcut possible when it doesn’t seem like they need to take any. The two have already exchanged looks and words over the situation, and it appears to be a big question mark to see if they can get on the same page to put up a title victory over as decorated a team as The Briscoes. Mark and Jay are always on the same page and operate like they share a brain, so if The PBK doesn’t bring their A game it could be a short reunion for the team.

Ring of Honor 20th Anniversary

Saturday, March Week 4, 2022

Mid Atlantic Region

Attendance: 964

Pay-Per-View Buys on Fite: 14,122

Bandido vs. Dragon Lee

Our pay-per-view kicks off with a rematch from a few episodes of Ring of Honor television back where Dragon Lee was able to come out on top of Bandido, but he got a big assist from Brody King. King won’t be here tonight because of his attack that led to the injury of Rey Horus and his own suspension. With both men’s matches changed by King’s attack this left them to face off with each other once again, and with things being more equal this time it would likely go a long way towards the title picture in ROH. Both men brought the fast paced and high octane action that the fans expect from the great luchadors of Ring of Honor, and there were several times that both men could have capitalized and came out on top. Things ended up going differently this time around though as Dragon Lee tried one too many high risk moves, which Bandido were able to turn around to his advantage. He finished things off as he played possum while Dragon Lee headed to the top, then Bandido delivered a huge step up enziguri to Lee on the top, then brought him down with the Revolution Fly for the three count.

Mia Yim vs. Taya Valkyrie

These two women are still relatively new to Ring of Honor, and with this being both of their first pay-per-view matches for the company they were fighting tooth and nail to come out on top in this one. Yim, who represents The Narrative, came out with her very hard hitting and aggressive style, but Valkyrie showed her superior strength as she withstood a barrage from Yim and came out fighting. She looked very strong throughout the match, but Yim is a seasoned veteran and while she was taking offense from Valkyrie, she never allowed herself to be hit with anything that would put her down for the count. The crowd was behind Valkyrie as she hit several visually impressive moves on Yim, plus the crowd associates Mia Yim with EC3, and that goes a long way to getting you on their bad side. After some more back and forth action Yim was able to get Valkyrie down on the mat on her stomach, and as Taya struggled to get back up Mia locked her in hit a curb stomp that finally put her on top and secured the victory for her.

Breezus and Dalton Castle vs. Mascara Dorada and Samuray del Sol

This matchup features two teams with very different momentum heading into this match. Breezus and Castle started teaming a few months ago, and from the get go it was obvious that they weren’t on the same page as they haven’t shown any signs of developing chemistry together. Dorada and Samuray continued to be a model of chemistry though as they hit many awe inspiring double team moves on both men, and they had the advantage for the majority of the match. The crowd cheered as they brought the fast paced offense to the opponents, especially the overly confident Dalton Castle. There was a small glimmer of hope as Castle took a few shortcuts to get the advantage, but that was short lived as Samuray was able to get him isolated and hit the Salida del Sol, followed up by Dorada walking the ropes then dropping a huge flying legdrop on him to give his team the victory.

Winners: Mascara Dorada and Samuray del Sol

Josh Woods vs. Tracy Williams

Neither man were scheduled to appear on this pay-per-view twenty four hours ago, but after the actions of Brody King changed a pair of matches they were added at the last minute, and they didn’t disappoint as they put on a throwback pure style wrestling match for the fans at 20th Anniversary. Both men showed why they starred in that division, even though they have failed to gain much footing in this new iteration of Ring of Honor. That didn’t stop them from chain wrestling like we haven’t seen since the relaunch of ROH, and it wasn’t clear who was going to come out on top, but the fans were giving them solid applause after each stretch of moves and countermoves from both men. There were many chances for both men to turn it into a striking affair, but they both refrained and continued the technical masterclass they were putting on inside the ropes. The finish came as Woods tried a go behind on Williams, but Williams was able to capture his arm, then fell to the mat with it and locked in his signature crossface. Woods struggled for a short amount of time, but he wasn’t able to escape the hold and was forced to submit.

Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championships

The Briscoes © vs. The PBK

The Briscoes have faced many dangerous opponents throughout the years, but not many of them equal a returning Keith Lee and his partner Shane Taylor. Lee has developed so far in his years away from Ring of Honor, and it showed as he started the match out for the challengers and was physically dominating for several minutes to start things, nearly pinning each of the champions and single handedly winning the title for his team. Taylor was more than happy to let Lee handle the physical work, but that started to take it’s toll as The Briscoes started to get their bearings against the big man and starting to chop him down to size using their unique double team offense. Eventually Lee had to make the tag to Taylor, and as hard as he tried to stay away from the offense of the champions he wasn’t able to, and they quickly wore him down as well as they had the clear upper hand in the match.

Mark and Jay continued the assault for awhile, but Lee started to build up some steam on the apron, and for as much as the fans loathed his partner, they wanted to see him come into the ring and clean house. They got what they wanted as Taylor was able to get some separation with a poke to the eye of Mark Briscoe. Keith Lee then stormed into the ring and was like a train barrelling down the tracks. The highlight of his offense came as he avoided a double clothesline from The Briscoes, then charged at them and pounced them both nearly out of the ring. With his team having an advantage he made the tag to Taylor, who eventually gave that advantage back. But that’s when things turned. Taylor saw his opening with he went to hit a corner splash on Jay Briscoe, but the referee was out of position and took the brunt of the force. As the match broke down into all four men brawling Taylor saw his opening and went outside and grabbed a steel chair. He wound up for the chair shot, but his partner saw this move coming and stepped in front of his teammates attempt at blatant cheating. Taylor was irate at Lee stopping him from finishing things off, and it was then that The Briscoes double dropkicked Lee out of the picture. Taylor then went for the chair shot but the champions avoided it, then hit a huge spike piledriver on Taylor as the referee came around and counted the three.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match The Briscoes celebrated with their championships as the crowd gave them a standing ovation for overcoming the attempt from Shane Taylor to steal the tag team championships from them by cheating. As they started to make their way to the back Keith Lee slowly started to get back into the ring, looking furious that he had to step in and stop his partner from taking yet another shortcut instead of working for the titles, like Lee had stated that he wanted them to do. He got in the ring and helped Taylor up to his feet, questioning why he would do that when they had such a strong showing in the title match up to that point. After some back and forth Lee put his hands up in the air then motioned that he’d had enough of this partnership and turned his back on Taylor and started to walk towards the back. That’s where he went wrong. Taylor quickly picked up the chair that was still in the ring and unloaded with a shot to the back of Lee that reverberated throughout the whole arena.

Ian Ricabonni

Shane Taylor just absolutely unloaded with that chair shot on Keith Lee! The PBK is ending as quickly as they got back together! Keith Lee is a man of honor, he didn’t need these underhanded tactics that Taylor seems to be reliant on. When Taylor realized that he wasn’t going to be able to make his friend see things his way he just threw years of friendship right out the window. Taylor may be the man left standing, but I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes when Keith Lee realizes what just happened. There’s going to be hell to pay!

Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship

Rok-C © vs. Athena

Wrestling legend Booker T must be looking on with pride as these two women square off for the top prize for the women in Ring of Honor here at 20th Anniversary. The legend trained both women in the squared circle, but Athena has years of experience on the champion, and she would need it in this battle as Rok-C has serious major league skills, and she’s still only twenty years old. The two women wasted no time as they locked horns in the middle of the ring and it was clear that Athena had a strength advantage as well as she locked Rok-C into the corner several times. Rok-C didn’t become Women’s Champion by luck though and as she started to find her footing she showed why. She used her great speed and technical ability to repeatedly gain the upperhand on Athena, putting her face down on the mat several times. She would quickly follow up with several grounded submission attempts to Athena, attempting to end Athena’s title challenge by submission.

Athena showed her fighting spirit though as she was able to power out of several of Rok-C’s attempts at submissions, and she would counter into a power move of her own. A particularly impressive counter came as Rok-C had a triangle choke in when Athena powered to her feet, then without breaking the hold lifted the champion up and delivered a thunderous powerbomb. The crowd thought that would bring an end to things but it wasn’t meant to be as Rok-C was able to kick out at 2. Things went back and forth for a few minutes, but came to a finish as Rok-C saw an opening to honor the trainer of both women and kicked Athena in the gut, then went for an axe kick on the challenger. Athena was able to get out of the way in time though and hit a beautiful jumping side kick like her mentor that brought the champion down. Athena then quickly made her way to the top rope as the fans shot to their feet. As they collectively held their breath she flew off the top and connected with The Eclipse, then three seconds later she had brought the title reign of Rok-C to an end.

Ring of Honor World Championship

Jonathan Gresham © vs. EC3 w/ The Titan

The two men in this title match couldn’t have gotten more different responses as they came out for this highly anticipated World Championship match. EC3 came out shadowed by The Titan to a chorus of boos, as they die hard Ring of Honor fans don’t want to see him leaving with the World Championship. Gresham received a hero’s welcome as he pointed to the challenger and his second saying that it’s over for them tonight. The match started with EC3 not wanting any part of Gresham, who kept trying to instigate a lockup with the challenger. EC3 had done his homework though and knew that he couldn’t get into a battle of grapples with the champion, and he didn’t fully engage in battle until Gresham was distracted by the monstrous Titan at ringside and EC3 was able to unload a hard strike to the champion. EC3 then wasted no time to lock in a headlock on Gresham, and yelled at fans at ringside that he’s the best technical wrestler in the world.

The challenger started to get confident as he was able to ground the champion, but like many times in his career his overconfidence started to come back to bite him as Gresham wrestled his way right back into the match and then gained the advantage as he stretched EC3 in every way imaginable as The Titan looked on at ringside, not exactly showing confidence that the leader of The Narrative was going to be able to escape all these holds from the champion. Eventually he used his power and size advantage over Gresham and powered his way out of a hold then spiked Gresham with a DDT. He learned from his past mistakes and quickly got Gresham up to his feet, where he was waiting and spiked him with the One Percenter. The crowd counted along with the referee but were shocked when he only made it to two, Gresham kicked out at the last second. EC3 reverted back to his ways of complaining when he doesn’t get his way and got in the face of the referee, then ignored the warning from his Narrative teammate Titan that Gresham was up on his feet. Gresham looked like a man possessed and staggered EC3 with a headbutt that sounded like a chair shot. EC3 was completely staggered as Gresham locked in the Octopus Lock. The Titan was up on the apron reaching out for EC3, but he quickly collapsed in the middle of the ring, and before long he was tapping out, ending his title hopes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match the crowd went crazy as Gresham grabbed his title from ringside and celebrated with the fans after a hard fought victory that no one was really sure that he would be able to get. EC3 looked beyond frustrated in the ring as The Titan stepped over the top rope to console his partner in this very tough defeat. Gresham held the title high in the air on the turnbuckles as the crowd showered him with cheers, but it was clear EC3 wasn’t done with his action for the night and he began to stalk the champion. The shock came though when The Titan stepped between Gresham and EC3 and calmly backed him off from doing something he may regret after Gresham just handled him in their title match. Gresham sensed the danger and quickly got out of the ring and started to head to the back when EC3 got the microphone from ringside.

EC3

What in the hell do you think you are doing? He got lucky in that match and I was about to show him who the better man is, and you have the guts to stand between your leader and what he wants?!?

The crowd then audibly gasps as The Titan rips the microphone away from the leader of The Narrative and begins to speak.

The Titan

What do I think I’m doing? I do whatever the hell I want! You know that better than anybody. We’ve been up and down every road together for years. So when you called and said you needed somebody by your side in Ring of Honor and built The Narrative I was on board. But the past few months something started to become obvious to me, and tonight your failure made me sure of it. I believe in what we are doing here, the story is ours to write. But you aren’t the right man to be leading the charge. I am!

EC3 looks shocked by this statement and grabs the microphone back to respond.

EC3

You are the right man to lead our group? What makes you think that?

The Titan wastes no time in responding by grabbing EC3 around the throat and pulling the microphone, with EC3’s arm still attached up close.

The Titan

Does that start to answer your question? I thought you knew better. I’m not some dumb muscle that’s going to stand behind while somebody else takes credit for my work. You are lucky you are my friend or you’d be a skid mark on the mat right now. This moment is a crossroad for you. You can either fall in line and accept the fact that The Narrative is better with me doing the writing, or I can finish what I just started.

With that EC3 throws his hands up in defeat as The Titan looks pleased as he releases the chokehold on what is apparently now the former leader of The Narrative. The two men start to head to the back, but now The Titan leads the way with EC3 standing in his very sizable shadow. It looks like The Narrative is alive and well, but leadership just changed hands, and the wrestlers of Ring of Honor may be in for more doom then they could have feared, because the hands of The Narrative are now in control of a very angry Titan.

Main Event

Chris Hero vs. Johnny Gargano

With so much intrigue surrounding this match the Commisionerhausen had no choice but to name it the main event of the evening. On the surface it’s a dream match between a past generation of Ring of Honor greats in Chris Hero taking on one of the leaders of the new generation of Ring of Honor greats, Johnny Gargano. When you dig further into this matchup though you see all the layers surrounding Gargano. Scarlett Bordeaux and now Killer Kross have made their presence known, and Gargano was looking over his shoulder from the opening bell of the match. Not only does he have the threat of Kross to deal with, he has one of the most dangerous knockout artists in wrestling standing across from him. The two men took some time to feel each other out, and the crowd cheered as Hero would lock Gargano in a complicated hold, then Gargano would contort his body and escape. Gargano was able to roll Hero up a little further into the match, and that nearfall set things into overdrive for the first time in the match as the strikes began.

The two men traded blows back and forth, but Gargano realized he likely wasn’t going to be able to stand toe-to-toe with Hero and he took him down at the shins, then forced him outside the ring. It was then that Gargano got a head of steam and dove through the ropes and sent Hero crashing into the barricade. The match stayed on the outside for some time as they fought around the ring and one of the men would break the referee’s count when it got close. After using the ring apron, post and steps as a weapon, both men slowly got back into the ring and continued to get after it hard. The crowd grew increasingly hot as they couldn’t wait to see how things would end, even well after the twenty minute mark. The match carried on but the crowd didn’t want to see them quit fighting. Things started to come to a climax as Hero had an advantage, and went for the knockout spinning elbow from behind, but Gargano sensed it and ducked down and got a knee bar on Hero. Gargano stayed on top as he charged at Hero as he struggled to get up and nailed a shining wizard. Hero looked to be out cold, but for good measure he locked in the Gargano Escape. Hero didn’t struggle at all as it appeared he may in fact be out, and the referee check to see if he wanted to submit but instead called for the bell as Hero couldn’t continue.

Winner: Johnny Gargano

Time: 26:08

Rating: 79

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The referee quickly helped Hero roll out of the ring, and then held Gargano’s hand high in the air, and he seemed to finally have a weight off his shoulders after winning this very physical battle. But the weight was able to be placed harder on his shoulders than ever. With his hand held high the lights went black.

WbKS0gC.jpgyIbWGCp.jpg

The eerie red light and smoke filled the entrance ramp, and Scarlett Bordeaux slowly made her way out onto the entrance way, but this time she was followed by the imposing figure of Killer Kross, and he looked ready to march down to the ring and fulfill his promise to spill the blood of Gargano.

The duo slowly marched down to the ring as Gargano gathered himself in the ring and prepared for the battle that was about to happen. Gargano has been preparing for it for weeks, but no amount of preparation could have been enough for the fight Johnny was in for with a very hungry Killer Kross out for his blood. He stopped just outside the ring as Scarlett took his leather coat off of him as he prepared for a fight with Gargano. Then things took a complete 180 into chaos as someone seemingly jumped over the rail with a pipe in hand and as Scarlett let out a blood curdling scream Killer Kross was dropped where he stood by a vicious blow to the back. Gargano looked utterly confused as Kross was dropped into a heap after the shocking attack from the stands. The lights then came back up and the fans, and even more so Johnny Gargano were shocked to see who was standing above Kross with the smoking gun in hand.

1naBqSZ.jpg

Tommaso Ciampa shocked everyone by appearing unannounced at 20th Anniversary and coming to the aid of his long time friend and partner. The pay-per-view then went off the air with Gargano looking shocked and Ciampa yelling at the victim of his shocking attack.

Tommaso Ciampa

That’s my best friend! That’s my family! Nobody messes with my family! You hear me? Nobody!

Tommaso Ciampa Officially Member of Ring of Honor

Ring of Honor’s 20th Anniversary show came to a shocking close when Killer Kross finally appeared in person and seemed intent on carrying out the assault of Johnny Gargano that he and Scarlett Bordeaux have been warning of for several weeks. As he prepared to enter the ring for a waiting Gargano he was attacked by Tommaso Ciampa, who came from the stands wielding a pipe and kept Kross from carrying out his attack, shocking the fans and Johnny Gargano alike.

After this shocking counterattack on Kross, we’ve learned that Tommaso Ciampa is indeed officially part of the Ring of Honor roster for the first time in years. Ciampa has a storied history in Ring of Honor, where he wrestled from 2011 to 2015, holding the Television Championship during his first run with the company. It has been revealed that Ciampa’s contract was up with his previous employer WWE, and the two sides decided not to sign a new contract. When his time with the company expired he quietly left without an official statement from either side, making him appearing on a Ring of Honor pay-per-view even more of a shock. From the looks of things even his close friend Johnny Gargano had no clue that Ciampa was going to be coming to his aid as Kross beared down on him.

With this new addition to the Ring of Honor roster being thrust right into the conflict between Gargano and Kross, where will Kross and Scarlett’s attention turn now? Will they continue their hunt of Johnny Gargano or will the vengeful Kross now want to get his hands on the man who left him laying on the floor on his Ring of Honor debut? How will Gargano react to Ciampa coming to his rescue and not letting him know about it beforehand? One thing is for certain, as the weather starts to warm up with the coming of spring, so is the action in Ring of Honor.

Around the World of Wrestling

March Week 4, 2022

Wednesday

AEW Dynamite was a special episode this week, with Hangman Page defending his AEW World Championship on television. He was able to turn back another challenger as he defeated Chris Jericho in the main event. The match would be rated at a 79. Danhausen was on the edge of his seat during the match, and mentioned to us several times that he is a close personal confidant of that Chris Judas fellow.

Friday

Bad news for WWE as one of their bigger stars will be out for the upcoming WrestleMania. Bobby Lashley has been diagnosed with a hernia, and with the danger of wrestling with that injury he has been ruled out for several months as he has surgery to correct the issue. That’s bad news for the former WWE Champion as WrestleMania would have been a great ending to what’s been his strongest year within the WWE.

2022 continues to be the year of the retirement as Bob “Hardcore” Holly has announced he’s retiring from wrestling. Holly will be remembered for his great run during the Hardcore Championship era and his memorable feud with Brock Lesnar over the WWE Championship. He still says to this day that WWE should have just made him World Champion and watched the money roll in. With this news rookies around the world of wrestling can be heard giving a collective sigh of relief with him no longer lurking around locker rooms anymore.

Next post will be a quarterly review of the ROH action and a post showing the current roster and company info to try and any new readers caught up and maybe attract some new ones to try and get a little interaction going here.

Did Ciampa shoot Kross? What a psycho! Lovely addition, I'm reading.

I had a one-year ROH save of my own around this time, would be interesting to compare the perceptions in the next post.

Glad to see you back posting! Thanks for the picks on the PPV too. That's kind of the imagery I was going for, figured I better stick with a pipe though instead of an actual gun haha. Mine definitely isn't your typical ROH game as I have the infusion of money from Conan buying ROH and giving Danhausen kind of a sandbox to play in. Makes me chuckle to see Tony Khan buy it now and Danhausen joke around about Tony giving him Ring of Honor. I want to tweet them or something and be like well you might want to check out this idea I had a few months before. I feel like the roster has been built up to where I want it since it's more of a reboot than a continuation of ROH, but I feel like the spirit of ROH is still in there with a lot of the talent that I kept around. Can't wait to see where they actually go with their upcoming show and how Tony is going to handle them. Could be an exciting time.

Ring of Honor Wrestling Preview

Friday, April Week 1, 2022

pqtA1ND.jpg vs. nfsnejv.jpg

Fresh off the heels of Ring of Honor’s 20th Anniversary event another episode of television kicks off the 2nd quarter of action under Danhausen. The Television Championship was supposed to be contested at the pay-per-view, but due to Brody King’s attack on Rey Horus that match didn’t happen. Instead with a week of recovery time Rey Horus will put the title on the line tonight against Dragon Lee. Is Horus back to 100 percent a week removed from the vicious attack, or will Dragon Lee take advantage and end Horus’s title reign in his first defense?

5wd5fYP.jpg vs. 1naBqSZ.jpg

Last week’s pay-per-view went off the air under shocking circumstances as Tommaso Ciampa came to the aid of his good friend Johnny Gargano as he was staring down an attack from Killer Kross. It has been confirmed that Ciampa is now officially part of the Ring of Honor roster, and he’s wasting no time getting back into the ring as he will be taking on Joe Hennig in what promises to be a great main event matchup. Smart money would say that Killer Kross, Scarlett Bordeaux and Johnny Gargano won’t be far off from this one either.

VNR7DcA.jpg vs. tWkidbh.jpg

In other shocking actions from the pay-per-view Shane Taylor grew frustrated of his partner Keith Lee not wanting to take shortcuts to the Tag Team Championships, so he ended that partnership by taking Lee out after they lost the matchup against The Briscoes. Word is that Keith Lee has been seething all week, ready to get his hands on Shane Taylor. Taylor is known for having layers of protection though, and tonight Lee must start to go through these as he takes on Shane Taylor Promotions member Moses.

I've decided to do predictions for weekly shows in addition to pay-per-views to see if I can get a little more interactions and see what people are thinking of things so far. So feel free to pick if you'd like and leave any thoughts.

In my save Moses was in the 'next big thing' category, and Briscoes offered to put SoS over, so I pushed them to around 50 pop in Tri States. Kaun looks to have more star quality IRL though. Lee, Rush, Flamita signed exclusive deals with AAA, that was a shame.

Rush was already gone in mine to start. Bandido, Brody King, Horus, Flamita, Dragon Lee and Rocky Romero all have contracts where they choose the other promotions over me when it comes to booking conflicts so I don’t get to feature them as much as I’d like. Part of why I had that wave of signings in the first few months, trying to lock down some people to exclusive contracts that I don’t have to worry if they are going to have a show pop up while I’m planning out a PPV. A few times I’ve had them look available when I plan the show, then look a few weeks later and all of a sudden they aren’t available.

Trying something new with the match write ups. I used this style in a dynasty I ran 11 years ago. Let me know what you all think. I think it helps break it up a little bit.

Ring of Honor Wrestling

Friday, April Week 1, 2022

Tri-State Region

Attendance: 357

55,154 views on HonorClub

Ring of Honor Wrestling kicks off this week with Danhausen already in the ring, politely waving to the fans who are cheering him, ready to kick off the show and excited to see the fallout from 20th Anniversary.

Danhausen

Thank you everybody! Danhausen welcomes you to Ring of Honor Wrestling after a great pay-per-view last night. We saw Jonathan Gresham defend the World Championship against EC3, we saw a new Women’s World Champion in Athena, and to finish the night we saw a great match between Johnny Gargano and Chris Hero. To close things out we saw the dastardly Killer Kross show up, Danhausen’s apologies for not believing you Johnny, and then shockingly see him assaulted by Tommaso Ciampa. Ciampa is now a part of Ring of Honor, and Danhausen had to keep that very secret or he said he’d make my unbroken leg match my broken one. Very scary that Ciampa, but very effective if Danhausen says so himself. Now without further ado, Danhausen would love to hear from that man. Ladies and gentle humans, Tommaso Ciampa!

The newest member of the Ring of Honor makes his way out onto the stage, and the crowd gives him a huge ovation, but he seems to pay it no mind as he looks around the arena then slowly stalks to the ring, where he joins Danhausen in the ring and accepts the microphone from him.

Tommaso Ciampa

It’s been a long time, I didn’t know if I’d ever step foot back in a Ring of Honor ring. But here we are. Things were going great for me, then I was tasked with holding a bunch of rookies hands and getting them through a show. That’s all fine and good, but that’s not what I’m looking for in my career. I’m Tommaso Ciampa. I’m an ass kicker, not a teacher. Then I looked and people like my good friend Johnny Gargano were here in Ring of Honor putting on fantastic matches and I wanted a piece of that. Then conveniently enough I see my friend Johnny having a little bit of a stalker problem. Johnny knew who it was, I knew who it was. We all came from the same place, Kross has had the same M.O. for quite some time. And I’ll be damned if I was going to sit back and watch him destroy my friend. Thankfully he decided to bide his time, and while he played his little game I signed with Ring of Honor and just sat and waited for him to make his move, and when he did it was time to pounce.

With that the music of Johnny Gargano hits. He shows no interest in greeting the fans or celebrating after his big victory over Chris Hero at the pay-per-view. He comes straight down to the ring and immediately begins to address Ciampa.

Johnny Gargano

If we are such good friends then why couldn’t you call me to tell me that you were coming to Ring of Honor? I had no clue that you coming here. I had just finished a grueling match and was staring down death and his girlfriend coming to try to take a piece out of me. I was ready to put up the fight of my life when I was just as shocked as everyone else that you jumped the rail and took him out. While I appreciate the sentiment you know that I would have preferred to handle that situation like a man. Or at least been given a heads up and we could have faced off to him side-by-side. But no, I have to watch someone who I consider family sneak up and claim to be protecting me. I don’t need your protection, and if you are going to be this version of Tommaso I don’t know if I need your friendship. I hear you are in the main event tonight. Good luck in it but leave me out of it.

Gargano then drops the microphone at Ciampa’s feet and exits the ring with his hands up in the air, showing that he doesn’t want anything to do with Ciampa and exits. Ciampa stands with his hands on his hips, looking annoyed that Gargano didn’t thank him for the assist the night before.

Ian Riccaboni

Oh my, that definitely didn’t go the way that Tommaso thought it would. He thought he was doing a favor for a friend but it looks like it may have blown up in his face. Ciampa hasn’t been known to be the most stable human being, especially during his years here in Ring of Honor. It’ll be interesting to see how he and Gargano’s friendship turns from here. And what will Killer Kross think of this strife between friends? Has his hit list expanded to two?

Ring of Honor Television Championship

Rey Horus © vs. Dragon Lee

Horus’s Backstory

The champion was supposed to defend his title against Dragon Lee at the pay-per-view last week, but after the attack from Brody King the match was postponed until tonight. He is looking to make the first defense of the Television Championship that he won from Samuray del Sol last month. He has been one of the numerous luchadors that seem to have gravitated towards the Television Championship in recent months, and he leads the group as he holds the title.

Lee’s Backstory

Dragon Lee has been in the thick of action in Ring of Honor recently, including two great matches against Bandido in recent weeks. He defeated Horus in a non-title match, earning this shot at the title, then with the help of Brody King he was able to win his match against Bandido to keep him out of the title match. He has been very dangerous in both ROH and NJPW and is a major threat to take the Television Title in it’s first defense from Horus.

The Finish

After some fast and furious action that saw both men taking lots of risks to go home with the championship, Rey Horus put Lee down with a sunset flip bomb, then went up top and connected on a 450 Splash to retain his championship.

Breezus vs. Silas Young

Breezus’s Backstory

Breezus has been on an up and down ride since joining Ring of Honor back in January. He looked to have gained some traction with the formation of a team with Dalton Castle. While the duo looked strong initially, they have suffered from some serious chemistry issues and have been on the losing end frequently lately, leading to both men becoming frustrated.

Young’s Backstory

Silas Young has been one of the holdouts from the old Ring of Honor that have kind of been lost in the shuffle. He hasn’t appeared much on television lately, and when he does he usually comes out on the short end of the stick. The fans know how talented he is and any given night could be when he gets back on track.

The Finish

Young was in control of much of the match, but Dalton Castle made his way down to the ring. He didn’t interfere in any way but it seemed to be enough to get Silas off of his game, and before he knew it Breezus connected with the Beauty Shot to get the victory.

Winner: Breezus

Time: 12:12

Rating: 58

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match Castle gave Breezus a round of applause from the outside, then grabbed a microphone as he entered the ring to address his teammates victory.

Dalton Castle

Very impressive Breezy! How come you can’t do that when we team together? Ever since we’ve been teaming together it’s been nothing but loss after loss. Do you know who I am? I’m Dalton Castle and I don’t put up with losers! You would have lost that match too if I didn’t come down and distract that oaf. This little team? It’s over!

Castle then throws the microphone up in the air, and as Breezus goes to catch it Castle charges and nearly takes his head off with a vicious clothesline. He then picks Breezus up and hits the Bang-a-Rang on him, leaving him in a heap as he talked trash and exited the ring.

Caprice Coleman

Oh my goodness, Dalton Castle just dumped Breezus and left him lying. We thought this team had the potential to be something special, but we should have known that Dalton Castle’s ego would get in the way!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We go backstage where the camera picks up Keith Lee walking with a purpose down a hallway, when he comes up the entirety of Shane Taylor Promotions giving Moses a pep talk before he takes on Lee in one-on-one action. As Lee walks up on the group, Kaun, Moses and O’Shay Edwards quickly form a wall between Taylor and Lee as if they knew what was coming.

Keith Lee

That’s how you are going to play it? Too scared to face the consequences of your actions? I know this is how you operate. I hear that I’ve got Moses first. I hope that he’s paying you three well because I’ll take every one of you out if it means I get my hands on him. Moses, you’re first. I’ll see you out there big boy.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VNR7DcA.jpg vs. tWkidbh.jpg

Keith Lee vs. Moses

Lee’s Backstory

When Keith Lee returned to Ring of Honor it was at the side of his longtime partner Shane Taylor. They were very successful and quickly earned a Tag Team Title match, but it was Taylor’s insistence that they cheat to succeed that caused Lee to question reforming The PBK with Taylor. Before Lee could do anything about his partner’s ways Taylor stabbed him in the back, putting a huge target on his back in the process. The Limitless one is now flying solo in Ring of Honor, and he has a massive chip on his shoulder, a combination that could spell trouble for the rest of the Ring of Honor roster.

Moses’s Backstory

Moses is part of the Soldiers of Savagery with Kaun, and together they are part of Shane Taylor Promotions. He’s been sitting under the learning tree of Taylor and Lee for awhile, and tonight he’ll need to use everything he’s learned and then some to be able to stand toe to toe with one of the more imposing figures in professional wrestling.

The Finish

Every member of Shane Taylor Promotions tried to stick their nose in this match, and eventually they were all ejected from ringside, leaving Moses to deal with Lee one-on-one. This spelled doom for Moses. Even though he put up a good fight Lee was able to physically dominate him without the distractions at ringside and got the win with the Spirit Bomb.

We go to the locker room of The Narrative, where EC3 seems ready to give another inspirational speech to The Titan and Mia Yim. Before he can begin to talk though The Titan stands up and reminds him that he’s the leader now, then directs EC3 to a chair, and he begrudgingly complies with The Titan’s request.

The Titan

Today starts a new day for The Narrative. Our mission doesn’t change, and our message is still the same. We are going to make those who threw us aside regret it until the day they die. But we are going to be going about things a different way. No longer do we complain until we get our way. We are going to start from the bottom, and we are going to destroy anybody standing in our path until Ring of Honor can’t help but notice us, then we take what we want. Tonight me and you are going to go out there and utterly dominate an old school ROH team and show everybody why we are superior. Tonight starts a new chapter in our story, and these are the hands that are going to write it!

The Bouncers vs. The Narrative

The Bouncers’ Backstory

This is the first time that the Beer City Bruiser and Brawler Milonas have been seen on Ring of Honor television since the reboot of the promotion under Danhausen, and they drew a very tough matchup as they have to face an angry Titan and EC3 after EC3’s unsuccessful title challenge against Jonathan Gresham at 20th Anniversary. They are going out there to show that the original teams in ROH can stand up to the newer signings of the company.

The Narrative’s Backstory

EC3 went into his World Title match very confident that he would be walking out as champion, but it wasn’t to be as Jonathan Gresham was able to outlast him and avoid any trouble from The Titan to keep his title. After the match The Titan took leadership of the group by force, and tonight starts a new story for them as they look to regain footing and get back in the winner’s circle.

The Finish

This match was never really close. EC3 took his frustrations out on both men, and when The Titan was able to get into the ring he utterly dominated every second of the action. He took both men down with chokeslams, then as possibly a goodwill gesture to his teammate he tagged in EC3 and he hit a One Percenter to get the victory for The Narrative.

Max the Impaler vs. Rok-C

Max’s Backstory

Max the Impaler is a very imposing figure in the women’s division, and she makes her first appearance in the rebooted version of Ring of Honor. She has a great opportunity to score a victory here against Rok-C, who held the Women’s World Championship up until her loss at 20th Anniversary last week.

Rok-C’s Backstory

Rok-C had a very impressive first title reign with the Women’s World Championship, but she lost it at 20th Anniversary. She’s wasting no time here in trying to get her momentum built back up, showing she’s not going to be dwelling on her title loss for too long. She does face a unique challenge here though as not many people know what to expect from Max since her time away from ROH.

The Finish

While Max spent most of the time imposing her will on Rok-C, it didn’t take long for the former champion's talent to shine through, and after a very impressive showing she hit The Prodigy to pick up a big victory.

Winner: Rok-C

Time: 8:09

Rating: 44

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match Rok-C celebrates her victory, but then grabs a microphone from ringside to address her loss of the Women’s World Championship.

Rok-C

As most of you know I’m usually a woman of action and few words. Well tonight I’ve got something to say. Athena, congratulations on winning the World Championship from me. I’m proud to say that if anybody was going to beat me for it that it was someone with a pedigree like you. But I’m not going to just sit back while you walk around with my championship. In four weeks we are having a special Supercard edition of Ring of Honor Wrestling. Let me be the first to sign my name to a title match at that special edition of TV. It’s going to be Athena vs. Rok-C, and this time the title is coming back home!

Joe Hennig vs. Tommaso Ciampa

Hennig’s Backstory

Joe Hennig joined Ring of Honor back in January, and he has been on a mission to make his family name proud. He has had ups and downs throughout his time in the promotion, but always delivers good matches when he is put in big matches like the main event here tonight. He has a wealth of knowledge that he is passing along to the younger members of ROH as well, but in the tail end of his full time career he is certainly looking to still make his own mark on the industry.

Ciampa’s Backstory

Tonight is the official return to Ring of Honor for Tommaso Ciampa, who shockingly returned to help his friend Johnny Gargano escape an assault from Killer Kross at 20th Anniversary. As seen earlier tonight Gargano didn’t even know that Ciampa had left WWE and would be helping him in his inevitable battle with Kross. Ciampa was a very accomplished wrestler while in Ring of Honor, but since leaving the promotion he has developed to one of the best ring generals in the world.

The Finish

Both men showed signs that they were going to take control of the match and bring things to a finish, but ultimately it was Ciampa who used several very stiff strikes to stagger Hennig, then hit the Fairy Tale Ending to get the three count.

Winner: Tommaso Ciampa

Time: 18:47

Rating: 64

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the match Ciampa had his hand raised in victory, but the mood quickly changed as the lights went dark, then the familiar red light and smoke filled the stage. Scarlett Bordeaux slowly parted the smoke as she walked out onto the ramp, and behind her was the frightening figure of Killer Kross, who looked like he was about to live up to his name as he stared a hole in Ciampa. The duo slowly marched down to the ring as Ciampa was getting ready to do battle, and fans couldn’t help but notice that he was looking towards the stage and around the crowd, possibly expecting his friend Johnny Gargano to repay the favor and give him a hand. Scarlett then pointed Kross towards the ring, and he got up on the apron and entered the ring, and it was apparent Ciampa was going to go about this alone, even though he was still looking around looking for his friend.

Scarlett let out an evil laugh and like that Kross was like a shark in the water. He overwhelmed Ciampa with massive strikes. Ciampa tried to fight back, then resorted to covering up to try and lessen the blow of the strikes from Kross. It started to fall apart though as Ciampa still was looking towards the ramp for Gargano, but he wasn’t going to come to Ciampa’s aid. As Ciampa was starting to reel from the strikes Kross dragged him out of the corner then spiked him to the mat with a very high angle Saito Suplex. He followed that up by locking in the Kross Jacket. Ciampa struggled for a short time but eventually stopped moving as Kross stared a hole in the camera as he released an unconscious Ciampa from the chokehold.

Ian Riccaboni

Killer Kross has finally struck, and his first victim is Tommaso Ciampa. And it looks like Ciampa was expecting some help there but it never came. If this first strike is anything to go by, Killer Kross and Scarlett mean business, and all Ciampa did at 20th Anniversary was delay the inevitable and anger the beast!

Mark Briscoe Suffers Injury

News is coming out from the Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions that Mark Briscoe suffered a major injury in the duo’s title defense at 20th Anniversary. Briscoe took a bad bump during the match and has suffered a separated shoulder. Doctors have said that Briscoe will miss at least several weeks, but the exact timeline is not known yet. The Briscoes will continue to hold the titles for the time being, but Danhausen has stated that if the injury stretches into a more long term issue the titles may be stripped from The Briscoes and a solution will be found if that time comes.

Around the World of Wrestling

April Week 1, 2022

Tuesday

Our weekly retirements continue as two wrestlers who most fans didn’t realize were still active wrestlers in 2022. The first is a tag team legend, Ricky Morton. One half of the Rock n’ Roll Express Morton and his partner Robert Gibson were mainstays in 1980’s NWA. Danhausen is sad to see the team going away, but he thinks Robert Gibson will finally get his chance at being a singles wrestler and will be a World Champion somewhere in no time. The other wrestler hanging up his boots is Scott Norton. Norton was heavily featured in the 90’s in NJPW and as the muscle behind the nWo.

Wednesday

AEW Dynamite didn’t run their strongest show as of late as the show as a whole was only rated a 72, but it was notable because the TNT Championship changed hands for the first time this year. In the main event Andrade defeated Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin in a triple threat match to win the title that was rated as an 80.

Friday

WWE’s final show before their two day WrestleMania saw the Smackdown Tag Team Championships change hands as The Usos defeated the New Day to win the championships in a match rated as a 70. The main event of the evening saw Sami Zayn defend his Intercontinental Championship against Apollo Crews in a 65 rated match. The show as a whole was rated at a 70.

Saturday

WWE held WrestleMania Saturday and the show was rated a 79. The main event of night one of the yearly extravaganza saw Brock Lesnar defeat Drew McIntyre to retain his WWE Championship and get his revenge from the main event two years ago in a match rated an 82. The Raw Women’s Championship changed hands as Alexa Bliss defeated Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks in a triple threat match to bring an end to Lynch’s historic title reign. The match came in as a 79. Royal Rumble match winner Randy Orton didn’t receive a title shot at WrestleMania, instead teaming with Matt Riddle to retain their tag titles against Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss in another 79 rated match. The Smackdown Women’s Championship also saw a WrestleMania rematch as Charlotte Flair defended her title against Asuka in a 78 rated match. Finally in a non title match Kevin Owens defeated Sami Zayn in a match rated at 81.

Sunday

Night Two of WrestleMania saw a head scratcher as the main event of the biggest show of the year as Brock Lesnar successfully defended his WWE Championship for a second straight night, this time defeating Happy Corbin in a 79 rated match, which was also the rating for the show as a whole. The undercard also saw Universal Champion Roman Reigns reuniting with Seth Rollins to defeat the unique team of AJ Styles and Goldberg in another 79 rated match. The match of the night went to a rematch from the night before as Kevin Owens again defeated Sami Zayn in non-title action and it was rated an 81. Danhausen said after 8 hours of WWE in two nights he was ready for a stiff drink and some sleep.

New Japan also held a big event on Sunday that rated better than both nights of WrestleMania as an 83 overall. Sakura Genesis was headlined by a match for the United States Championship that saw Okada defeat KENTA in an 85 rated main event to win the championship from him.

Ring of Honor Wrestling Preview

Friday, April Week 2, 2022

oopkHhT.jpg vs. iTK4jPS.jpg

After defending the World Championship against EC3 at 20th Anniversary Jonathan Gresham returns to action this week on Ring of Honor Wrestling as he takes on former stable mate Tracy Williams in what promises to be a main event that technical wrestling fans from around the world will love. Gresham and Williams were both members of The Foundation, but the group peacefully dissolved as Ring of Honor was rebooted at the beginning of the year. Both men have great amounts of respect for each other and know each other very well so it should be a great main event. Williams was also victorious at the previous pay-per-view, so if he can pick up a victory over the World Champion he would vault straight to the front of the line for a title opportunity down the road.

The first match for the special edition of Ring of Honor Wrestling: Supercard was set last week as Rok-C announced she’d be in a rematch for the title as she would try to win it back from Athena at the special edition of television at the end of the month. With the women’s division heating up there are many contenders for that championship, and we will see them in action this week as Rok-C will team up with Taya Valkyrie and Narrative member Mia Yim to take on Women’s World Champion Athena and her partners Taylor Wilde and Katarina Waters. These six women all want to be at the top of the revamped women’s division in Ring of Honor, and you have to believe that will pull out all the stops to impress in this big six woman tag match.

VNR7DcA.jpg vs. DhfNf7a.jpg

Keith Lee confronted the entirety of Shane Taylor Promotions last week and warned them that if they were going to protect their leader he would go through them one by one until he gets his hands on Taylor. Lee’s quest continues this week as he faces off with O’Shay Edwards in one-on-one action. Last week in his victory over Moses, the three remaining members of STP tried to stick their nose in the match, but Lee was able to overcome the odds and defeat the first member of the group. He will have to likely deal with the same tonight as Edwards won’t be coming to the ring alone. If he is in fact going to get his hands on the man that stabbed him in the back at 20th Anniversary he’s still got a lot of work to do.

IMO it's really tricky to find a format sweetspot for match descriptions, and as they say, to each their own. Since your ROH seems to be more storyline-driven, I think this presentation works fine :)
