Aaron Andrews prevails in Malice in Wonderland battle

JACKSON, MS - TCW World Champion Aaron Andrews defended his title for the fifth time, capping off TCW's first pay-per-view of the year with a win over arch rival Wolf Hawkins at "Malice in Wonderland".

The three-time champion, "Ace" Andrews came into the bout as a slight underdog, having been terrorised by Hawkins' stable, The Syndicate, since Hawkins claimed the mantle of "King of Kings" late last year. Hawkins himself had been on a rampage since dropping the title to Andrews in their hellacious battle last July at Summer Showdown, and was keen to recapture what he assures the wrestling world is his.

In a titanic battle lasting over 22 minutes, Andrews ultimately prevailed - launching himself from the top rope with a Flying Cross Body to keep Hawkins down for the three. But he needed to overcome the odds to do so - facing down the likes of Doc Hammond and Chris Flynn who tried to interfere throughout the match on behalf of their leader.

As Ace celebrated, Hawkins was clearly furious at the result - and knowing the Syndicate leader, he will regroup more determined and more unforgiving than ever.

In other action:

  • Although entering the twilight of his career, the One Man Army picked up one of his biggest singles wins, wiping the cocky grin off Freddy Huggins's face with a pinfall win. While Huggins' sister, Laura Catherine, tried her best to de-rail the One Man Army, she could do nothing to stop him from launching himself at Huggins in the corner with the Guided Missile.
  • While the fans enjoyed that match, they didn't enjoy the performance from Jay Chord. Facing fan favourite Sammy Bach, Chord was engaged in a hellacious tussle - in which he prevailed, but only after striking Bach with a steel chair. He continued to lay into Bach following the match, only for Edd Stone to come flying out and try reasoning with Chord. While it briefly looked like Chord had stopped, it was all a ruse - as he crashed the steel chair over Stone's head too to leave the young man out cold.
  • The bitter rivalry between Dazzling Dave Diamond and Sinner Society continued, as he faced his nemesis Eddie Peak. While the action might not have been the best, the crowd was buzzing - and they were furious as Peak got himself disqualified as his fellow Sinners Killer Shark, Titan & Nick Booth interfered. With Diamond in trouble, he was only saved by the fan favourite tag team Devine Fortune, as Darryl Devine & Chance Fortune chased the Sinner Society off.
  • It was otherwise a good night for the Sinner Society's Killer Shark & Titan, as the pair defended their tag titles against Benny Benson & Jimmy the Foxx. Cheered on by Floyd Goldworthy at ringside, Killer Shark dealt the finishing blow with a Big Bite to Jimmy the Foxx.
  • Elsewhere, the rivalry between Mighty Meaty and The Elite continued, with Mighty Mo picking up the win for his team with a Plunging Spinebuster on Eddie Chandler. There's little doubt that The Elite will be searching for revenge.
  • In the night's opener, trio Joshua Taylor, Greg Gauge & Matt Hocking continued their good recent form as an alliance of sorts, beating Bart Biggins, Human Arsenal & T-Bone Bright. They rubbed salt in their opponents' wounds after the match, too, with a beat down.

This is my first attempt at one of the bigger promotions, having always wanted to get into TCW. Thanks in advance to TCP1 for his inspiration on show length/presentation (as will become apparent, I don't want this diary to hold up my game), and also to willr0ck for his graphics and our excellent renderers.

I've actually made some changes to the schedule, to align more with what AEW does now. I don't love monthly pay-per-views, so instead I've narrowed it down to the "Big Four" with regular Total Wrestling specials:

  • Malice in Wonderland - January
  • Total Mayhem - May/June
  • Summer Showdown - July/August
  • Psycho Circus - November

This instalment of Malice was actually booked by the AI - I wanted to see what it did for the first month before then working towards Total Mayhem.

Going forward, "Total Wrestling" will air every Tuesday night, and a taped show (similar to the early days of Dark) called "Rise Up!" will air on Thursday nights on the OnDem platform (so I can give some of the lower card some matches/simple storylines).

  • Aaron Andrews opened the show, fresh off his win at Malice in Wonderland. He thanked the hot crowd, only for Wolf Hawkins to interrupt and make plain that he isn't done with "Ace" yet - promising that, after tonight's main event, he wouldn't walk out of Corpus Christi unassisted. [94]
  • Six-Man Tag Team Match: The Sinner Society (Killer Shark, Nick Booth & Titan) (with Eddie Peak) defeated Devine Fortune (Chance Fortune & Darryl Devine) & Dazzling Dave Diamond (13:40) with a Big Bite from Shark. The finish came after Eddie Peak distracted Devine at ringside, having spent much of the bout exchanging insults with Diamond. [56]
  • Ahead of his match, a short video package recapped Jay Chord's win over Sammy Bach at Malice in Wonderland. [70]
  • Singles Match: Jay Chord defeated Elliot Thomas (6:22) with a Cradle Piledriver. [70] After the match, Jay Chord talked up his win over Sammy Bach - only for an injured Edd Stone to come out! Stone said he doesn't have time for bullies, but Chord responds by belittling Stone for his efforts last night. [69]
  • Joined by Laura Catherine, Freddy Huggins delivered a backstage promo railing against everyone who is against him after his loss at Malice. [70]
  • Singles Match: Chris Flynn defeated Tana the Mighty (7:52) with a Back Suplex. It was an abrupt finish, after the Tana the Mighty landed awkwardly and suffered a back injury. [53]
  • A short video package aired next, recapping Aaron Andrews' historic win over Wolf Hawkins at Malice in Wonderland. This was a bit hastily put together, obviously because some post-match angle involving Tana had to be canned due to his injury. [79]
  • Tag Team Match: Greg Gauge & Matt Hocking (with Joshua Taylor) defeated Dean Daniels & Yuri Yoshihara (7:09) with a Proton Lock from Gauge to Yoshihara. Gauge & Hocking made an awkward pairing. [52] After the match, Joshua Taylor joined Gauge & Hocking in the ring, boasting that they will become the most dominant stable in TCW. He confirmed the group is now named Revolt. [63]
  • The camera panned backstage, where Andrews was on the ground and out cold! It's not clear who did it - but it looks like Wolf Hawkins delivered on his promise to that Andrews wouldn't leave Corpus Christi unaccompanied. [87]
  • Singles Match: Freddy Huggins (with Laura Catherine) defeated Bart Biggins (15:27) with the Huggins Kiss. [69]
  • Handicap Match: Wolf Hawkins & Doc Hammond defeated One Man Army (15:05) with a Jumping Front Kick from Hawkins. One Man Army did his best without Andrews, but ultimately fell victim to Hawkins and his former partner, Hammond. [78] All five members of The Syndicate swarmed the ring after the bout to beat down One Man Army. Bravely, Aaron Andrews came out to save - but was cut off at the top of the ramp by The Elite. While he fought bravely, the numbers soon overwhelmed him - and egged on by Hawkins, Doc Hammond power bombed him off the stage in a brutal ending! [68]

FINAL WORD: A hot show to start the journey to Total Mayhem, with the Andrews/Syndicate storyline continuing to heat up. A big jump too for the One Man Army, who looks to be set for a program of sorts with Wolf Hawkins, while Jay Chord looks to have moved on from Sammy Bach for now.

Overall Rating: [75]

NEXT WEEK: Sammy Bach Returns! Aaron Andrews speaks! Revolt's Gauge & Taylor face Benny & The Foxx! Edd Stone faces Maverick! Freddy Huggins continues his redemption against Elliot Thomas!

  • With Aaron Andrews out of action following the devastating attack on him last week, which saw him Power Bombed off the stage by Doc Hammond, One Man Army & Mighty Mo were on the look out for a partner in tonight’s main event against The Elite & Chris Flynn. [77]
  • Singles Match: Sammy Bach defeated Nick Booth (with Floyd Goldworthy) (10:55) with a Roll-Up. [58] After a victorious return to action, Bach thanked the fans for their support and promised that he will bounce back from his loss to Jay Chord at Malice. He said he hasn't forgotten that Chord took him out with a steel chair, but is prepared to accept the loss - for now. [85]
  • Singles Match: Dazzling Dave Diamond defeated Killer Shark (with Eddie Peak) (12:13) with a Roll-Up. The finish came after Eddie Peak accidentally struck Killer Shark when trying to interfere, resulting in a second straight roll-up victory to start the night. [51] The Sinner Society then swarmed the battered veteran after the bout, only for Chance Fortune & Darryl Devine to again come to Diamonds’s defence! The two groups brawled until they were finally broken up. [50]
  • Singles Match: Freddy Huggins (with Laura Catherine) defeated Elliot Thomas (8:24) with the Huggins Kiss. [64] For the second week running, Freddy Huggins took the microphone after his match, telling anyone who would listen that he will silence the doubters. [83]
  • Aaron Andrews gave a sit down interview with Jason Azaria. He said he was disgusted by the cowardly attacks from The Syndicate, and won’t rest until he gets his revenge for their actions. He said he'd like nothing more than to be in Houston tonight, but the company doctor has barred him from appearing while he recovers from his injuries. [81]
  • Meanwhile, Wolf Hawkins was interviewed for his immediate reaction to Andrews’ sit-down interview. He mocked the world champion for having shopped for a "doctor's note", complimenting Doc Hammond for his "handy work" last week and saying he wouldn’t be surprised if “Ace” never returns to Texas again. [82]
  • Singles Match: Marc Speed defeated Dean Daniels (6:48) with a Heel Hook. [45]
  • Singles Match: Edd Stone (with Vita) defeated Maverick (8:47) with the Party’s Over. [63] Stone looked proud after his win - but that didn’t last long as Jay Chord appeared out of nowhere to blindside him. In a hot segment, Stone did his best to fight back, but it was Chord who got the last laugh - incapacitating Stone and then hitting him with a Cradle Piledriver. [73]
  • Tag Team Match: Revolt (Greg Gauge & Joshua Taylor) (with Matt Hocking) defeated Benny Benson & Flying Jimmy Foxx (10:56) with a German Suplex Hold from Taylor to Foxx. [71]
  • Ahead of the main event, Mighty Mo & One Man Army announced they’d found a partner for the main event - Human Arsenal. To say the crowd was underwhelmed would be a bit of an understatement. [57]
  • Six-Man Tag Team Match: Human Arsenal, Mighty Mo & One Man Army defeated The Syndicate (Chris Flynn, Doc Hammond & Eddie Chandler) (with Wolf Hawkins) (9:44) with a Pump Handle Slam from Arsenal to Chandler. [67] Enraged, Wolf Hawkins stormed the ring after the bout. With the numbers clearly in The Syndicate's favour, for the second week running the faces were overwhelmed leaving The Syndicate standing tall to end the show. [67]

FINAL WORD: A mis-step after last week's hot show, with the lack of Aaron Andrews a major drag. Human Arsenal wasn't the surprise many were hoping for, and only further dragged down a main event which was lacking in real star quality. Still, it's good to see Sammy Bach back, and it would be worth trying to catch Revolt vs. Benson/Foxx or the Chord/Stone segment on OnDem if possible.

Overall Rating: [67]

NEXT WEEK: The Syndicate's Wolf Hawkins & Doc Hammond meet Human Arsenal and Mighty Mo! Greg Gauge defends the TV Title against Danny Fonzarelli! Edd Stone teams up with T-Bone Bright to face off against Jay Chord & Jeremie Courtney!

This looks fantastic. I like how you've adopted your formatting and style from your other diaries for this. Best of luck!

Thank you! It's a fun upper card, but I'm looking to try and make the most of the lower card for a bit before bringing anyone in. It's quite easy for characters to get lost in the shuffle there.

  • Tag Team Match: Sinner Society (Killer Shark & Nick Booth) (with Eddie Peak & Floyd Goldworthy) defeated Chance Fortune & Dazzling Dave Diamond (14:57) with a Choke Bomb from Booth to Fortune. The finish came as Goldworthy distracted Fortune at ringside, allowing Booth to boot down the former tag team champions while his partner Diamond was chasing Peak around the ring. [56] After the bout, the rest of the Sinner Society hit the ring, only for Darryl Devine to come charging out to his partners' defence. With his Sinner Society on the back foot, Peak ordered them out of the ring - snarling all the way up the ramp. [52]
  • Tag Team Match: The Elite (Eddie Chandler & Nate Johnson) defeated Benny Benson & Jimmy the Foxx (6:33) with the Natural Order from Johnson to Benson. [61] The Elite went on the attack following the bout, only for Mighty Mo to make the save - dumping both of them out of the ring, and challenging them to a tag match next week alongside (another) secret partner. [53]
  • Sammy Bach was interviewed in the ring with Jason Azaria. He spoke mainly about his future in the sport, and how it was coming to an end - but before long he was rudely interrupted by Freddy Huggins, who called him washed up and then slapped him! Bach was incensed, but before he could retaliate, Huggins quickly slipped out of the ring and retreated to the back. [76]
  • Meanwhile, Aaron Andrews tried to enter the building but was told by road agents (the former tag champions Joel Bryant and Robert Oxford) that he was not medically cleared to enter the TCW building. [86]
  • Tag Team Match: Edd Stone & T-Bone Bright defeated Jay Chord & Jeremie Courtney (12:16) with the Party’s Over from Stone to Courtney. [62] Chord was by far the star of this match, bringing great fire. As the winners celebrated, Chord was furious. He berated Courtney and then took out his anger on his fellow heel, felling Courtney with a Cradle Piledriver. [59]
  • One Man Army gave a standard "good guy" promo backstage, saying he has no respect for Wolf Hawkins or those he is associated with. [70] Elsewhere, Hawkins (flanked by Doc Hammond & Chris Flynn) scoffed at One Man Army - saying he’s yesterday’s news. [73]
  • Television Title, Singles Match: Greg Gauge © defeated Danny Fonzarelli (14:07) with a Proton Lock. [61] Gauge’s fellow Revolt members, Joshua Taylor & Matt Hocking, joined him in the ring and started beating on the Fonz. Elliot Thomas & Bart Biggins ran out to even the numbers, only for Marc Speed to emerge from nowhere and come down on the side of the Revolt. Speed hit German Suplexes on all three faces before standing tall alongside the Revolt, whose numbers seem to have swelled to four. [55]
  • Tag Team Match: Human Arsenal & Mighty Mo defeated Doc Hammond & Wolf Hawkins (17:56) with a Pounce from Mo to Hawkins. The Syndicate tried to interfere on Hammond & Hawkins’ behalf, only for One Man Army to fight them off. Distracted, Hawkins turned around and was hammered by a Pounce from Mighty Mo for a shock win. [71] For the third week running, The Syndicate beat down the faces - that is, until the champion Aaron Andrews came running out - and running through the members of The Syndicate! He finally got one-on-one with Doc Hammond, the man who power bombed him off the stage two weeks ago, only for Hammond to high tail it through the crowd. The faces then stood tall to end the show, finally getting one over The Syndicate. [74]

FINAL WORD: A return to form for TCW, with a hot main event angle to finish the show. There are some hot storylines in the mid card - namely, Bach vs. Huggins and Chord vs. Stone - but others seem to be dragging on. In particular, Revolt needs to find someone to feud with soon.

Overall Rating: [74]

NEXT WEEK: Aaron Andrews is officially cleared to enter the building in Wichita! Wolf Hawkins meets the One Man Army one-on-one! Marc Speed makes his Revolt debut alongside Gauge & Hocking! The Elite face off against Mighty Mo and a mystery partner!

  • Mighty Mo opened the show, fresh off his surprise pinfall win in last week's main event. He said there's been a line of men wanting to take their shot at The Syndicate - but with Tana the Mighty injury, what he needs is the biggest dog in the fight: "The Big Dog" T-Bone Bright. [70]
  • Tag Team Match: The Elite (Eddie Chandler & Nate Johnson) defeated Mighty Mo & T-Bone Bright (13:43) with a DDT from Chandler to Mo. Mighty Mo looked like he had the match won, but with the referee distracted by Johnson in the corner, Chandler struck with a low blow followed by a quick DDT for the win. [64]
  • Wolf Hawkins gave a promo backstage, hyping up tonight's bout against One Man Army. He said One Man Army was proving to be a thorn in his side, but tonight he was going to pick that thorn out. Then, he planned to turn his attention back to Aaron Andrews - or at least what's left of him once Doc Hammond is finished with "Ace". [75] Elsewhere, One Man Army responded to Hawkins. He said he's more than merely a thorn in Wolf's side - and will show that in tonight's main event. [72]
  • Singles Match: Sammy Bach defeated Maverick (9:59) with a Bach on Your Bach. [64] A reasonable showing from the two veterans.
  • After some commercials, Sammy Bach was walking to the locker room after his win. He ran into Laura Catherine on the way, who appeared to be waiting for him. Bach wanted to know where her brother was, after last week's cheap shot - but Laura Catherine wasn't forthcoming. But it was soon clear that it was all a ruse - as Huggins attacked Bach from behind and laid into him with punches and kicks. After busting Sammy open, Huggins sent him sprawling into some equipment before fleeing the scene alongside Laura Catherine. [78]
  • After that distressing attack, Edd Stone was in the ring alongside Vita. He's clearly disgusted by the actions of his former tag team partner, but other than that was flying high after his win last week. He said he wants to prove himself once and for all against Jay Chord - one on one, no sneak attacks. That brings Chord out, who politely refused the challenge and said Stone needs to prove himself worthy. Perhaps he could go some way to doing that next week, in a match against an opponent of Chord's choosing.
  • Singles Match: Doc Hammond (with Chris Flynn) defeated Yuri Yoshihara (4:21) with a Texas Cloverleaf. [42] Hammond's celebration was cut short, though, as Aaron Andrews came charging down the ramp and into the ring. Seemingly with nowhere to go, Hammond directed his stablemate Chris Flynn in the direction of Andrews before retreating up the ramp. Although the bigger man, Flynn was easy pickings for Andrews - who hoisted him up with an awesome vertical suplex to send a message to an incensed Hammond. [64]
  • Six-Man Tag Match: Revolt (Greg Gauge, Marc Speed & Matt Hocking) (with Joshua Thomas) defeated Bart Biggins, Danny Fonzarelli & Elliot Thomas (6:09) with a Cross Armbreaker from Speed to Thomas. [65] Again, Joshua Thomas entered the ring after the bout and talks up what a force Revolt is - he said they are becoming a force which cannot continue to be ignored. [61]
  • The announcers announce two Very Special Episodes of TCW Total Wrestling: as TCW Battleground will take place over two Tuesday nights, starting in two weeks' time on Mar. 10 followed by a second night on Mar. 17!
  • Singles Match: Darryl Devine defeated Nick Booth (with Floyd Goldworthy) (8:25) with a Roll-Up. The match included interferences from Killer Shark & Titan on behalf of Booth, while Chance Fortune & Dazzling Dave Diamond sought to level the playing field. [51] After the bout, a frustrated Eddie Peak accepted a challenge (on behalf of the Sinner Society) for a match next week pitting his three big giants against Devine Fortune & Diamond - a rematch of their showdown from earlier this month, where the Society won by nefarious means. [55]
  • Singles Match: Wolf Hawkins defeated One Man Army (17:38) with a Full Moon Rising. The finish came after The Elite, Eddie Chandler & Nate Johnson, interfered while the referee was down following a bump. [71] The Syndicate tried to beat down on One Man Army, but Human Arsenal, Mighty Mo & T-Bone Bright came running out for the save. With Flynn out of action, and Hammond doing his best to avoid Aaron Andrews backstage, Hawkins' men were outnumbered and quickly made their exits as the faces stood tall to end the show for the second week running. [67]

FINAL WORD: Another brawl of sorts to end the show, as The Syndicate vs. the rag tag bunch of faces continues to crawl towards a bigger confrontation. The hottest storyline at the moment is clearly Bach vs. Huggins, as Freddy Huggins and Laura Catherine are growing into one of the most despised heel acts in the company.

Overall Rating: [72]

NEXT WEEK: Aaron Andrews vs. Chris Flynn! The Sinner Society vs. Devine Fortune & Dazzling Dave Diamond! Edd Stone vs. Jay Chord's Choice! And what's the status of poor Sammy Bach?! And we will also find out some matches for TCW Battleground, which takes over on Mar. 10 and Mar. 17!

  • In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, The Syndicate (Wolf Hawkins, Eddie Chandler & Nate Johnson) defeated Human Arsenal, Mighty Mo & T-Bone Bright (14:05) with an Elitist Plex from Chandler to Arsenal. The finish came as the referee with distracted by Hawkins, allowing Chandler & Johnson to double team Arsenal. [71] The standard post-match brawl involving The Syndicate ensued. [64]
  • Elsewhere, a Battle Royal was announced Night 1 of Battleground, where the winner will get a shot at the TV title - against the winner of the following bout. [71]
  • TCW Television Title: In a bout that had good head and decent wrestling, Greg Gauge defeated Bart Biggins (8:32) with a Proton Lock. [64] After the bout, Revolt struck against the prone Biggins - only for the experienced trio of Benny Benson, Dean Daniels & Flying Jimmy Foxx to come to Biggins' rescue; the veterans clearly taking umbrage at the recent antics of Joshua Taylor's stable. [54]
  • Aaron Andrews then gave an interview in the ring. He spoke about how he wants to run through The Syndicate one-by-one, but it's Doc Hammond who is getting his blood boiling the most. Continuing his recent form of taunting Andrews from afar, Hammond agreed to meet Andrews under one condition: if the TCW Title was on the line. Andrews agreed, and a match was set for next week. [69]
  • Elsewhere, Freddy Huggins and Laura Catherine gave a promo backstage, in which they were scathing of the still injured Sammy Bach. [74]
  • Next up, Jay Chord announced the secret opponent for Greg Gauge: none other than the hardcore legend himself, Mad Man Boone, in a Hardcore Match! [63]
  • Hardcore Match: In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Edd Stone defeated Mad Man Boone (7:50) with a Flying Elbow through a Table. [51] The former International and Hardcore Champion, Mad Man Boone, is no heel, and despite the loss congratulated Stone on his way. That enraged Chord who tried to attack the pair - only to be chased off with a pair of steel chairs much to the crowd's excitement. [58]
  • Next up, the veteran Maverick said he wasn't disheartened by his recent losses on Total Wrestling and the turning point is near. He issued an open challenge, which was answered by the high flyer Elliot Thomas. [36]
  • Singles Match: In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Elliot Thomas defeated Maverick (6:15) with a Fast Roll-Up. [50]
  • Backstage, One Man Army was giving a promo aimed at his recent rivalry with Wolf Hawkins - including last week's loss following interference of The Syndicate. As if on cue, The Syndicate (minus Doc Hammond) attacked One Man Army in a four-on-one assault - only for their opponents from earlier in the night, Human Arsenal, Mighty Mo & T-Bone Bright, to come to the rescue! [64]
  • Elsewhere, Devine Fortune & Dazzling Dave Diamond speak about their rivalry with the Sinner Society. For Devine Fortune, they've got one thing on their minds: the tag titles. For Dave Diamond, it's more personal: he wants to finally get revenge against the mastermind, Eddie Peak. [60]
  • In another area, it seems like Doc Hammond is in the building, as he gives Chris Flynn a pep talk ahead of the main event - and seemingly passed him something too. [66]
  • Six-Man Tag Team Match: In a decent match, Devine Fortune (Chance Fortune & Darryl Devine) defeated Sinner Society (Killer Shark, Nick Booth & Titan) (12:04) with a Stroke of Luck from Fortune to Booth. [60] After the match, Peak was livid. He refused a re-match with Diamond or a title match for Devine Fortune - unless they win in a 4 vs. 4 Battleground match next week! Peak laughed maniacally as he wished the faces luck in finding a partner willing to face down the Sinner Society. [57]
  • Singles Match: In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Aaron Andrews defeated Chris Flynn (8:07) with a Flying Cross Body. [79] The finish came as Flynn tried to strike Andrews with some brass knuckles given to him by Hammond earlier - only for Andrews to duck out of the way and hit Flynn with them himself! With Andrews celebrating, he was blindsided by Hammond who delivered a beating to the champion - leaving him bloodied and hurt just a week out from their title match! [78]

FINAL WORD: A great showing from Chris Flynn in the main event, followed by a hot ending as Hammond drew some read heat for his post-match attack. Elsewhere, we've finally got some competition for Revolt and some of the other gang wars seem to be coming to a head. A strong show.

Live from San Antonio, TX.

Your hosts are Shawn Doakes, Kyle Rhodes and Jasmine Saunders, who are joined by Greg Gauge in the night's opening bout.

15-Man Battle Royale

TV title shot on the line. We join with most of the competitors already in the ring, including the likes of Mad Man Boone, some of the PGHW boys on excursion and some developmental talent. That leaves the big guns to get actual entrances - though poor Edd Stone gets blindsided during his entrance by Jay Chord, and the match is basically already down to fourteen men. Danny Fonzarelli decides to take on everyone early and is tossed first in a comedy spot, while Chris Flynn quickly gets rid of the likes of Daigo Goya and Duke Freeman. There's a wild brawl going on between Maverick and Mad Man Boone which sees them eliminate each other, while T-Bone Bright dumps Remus and Courtney. We soon find ourselves with a Final Four of Chris Flynn, Elliot Thomas, Freddy Huggins and T-Bone Bright. T-Bone is shockingly eliminated by Flynn after a thumb to the eyes, while Huggins looks in control and confident against Thomas. But he's shocked as Sammy Bach returns out of the crowd - distracting him at ringside to allow Thomas to dump him. That leaves Thomas one on one with the giant Flynn, as Flynn dominates in a long heat spot. But it's Thomas who prevails as he ducks under a big boot and drop-kicks Flynn over the top rope for the surprise win at 12:19. A lot of padding early, but Bach's return got a big pop. [59] Bach celebrates in the crowd leaving Huggins and Laura Catherine furious.

Meanwhile, we've got another Battleground Match next week as The Syndicate faces Mighty Mo, T-Bone Bright, Human Arsenal & One Man Army. [67]

Meanwhile, Elliot Thomas runs into Greg Gauge backstage. The TV champion tells Thomas he wasn't impressed and he shouldn't bother cashing in his title shot. [55]

Benny Benson, Dean Daniels & Flying Jimmy Foxx vs. Revolt (Joshua Taylor, Marc Speed & Matt Hocking

The heels attack to start, and Speed beats down on Daniels in the corner. He works and arm bar before Hocking comes in and lifts the pace. Daniels fights back, but an enziguiri from Hocking gets two. Foxx gets tagged in and goes toe to toe with Hocking before Taylor cuts him off just as he starts building some steam. Revolt keep control with heel tactics as Taylor beats down on Foxx in the corner. Eventually, Foxx gets the hot tag to Benson who gets the crowd back on side. Taylor looks to work Speed down but gets caught in the ropes, as Daniels beats him up. Revolt gets in control again, but Hocking gets too cocky, spending his time talking trash as Foxx rolls him up at 10:19 for the shock win. Surprisingly heatless. [57] Greg Gauge joins the Revolt for the beat down, only for Benny Benson to make the save. The faces challenge Revolt to a Battleground match next week, with Daniels saying they might be old dogs but they’ve got some tricks up their sleeves. [52]

Meanwhile, Doc Hammond breaks down exactly how he’ll beat Aaron Andrews in the main event - and which bones he’ll break in the process. [73]

Meanwhile, Freddy Huggins and Laura Catherine are furious backstage after Sammy Bach cost Huggins a short at the TV title. [77]

The Elite (Eddie Chandler & Nate Johnson) vs. Human Arsenal & One Man Army

One Man Army flies out of the blocks and beats on Chandler in the corner, before the referee pulls him away. He continues to dominate Chandler, before Johnson earns his partner some rest with a punch from the apron. Chandler works his way back into the match by raking OMA’s eyes, as The Elite tag in and out to wear him down. Johnson goes too far with a vertical suplex, which allows OMA to dump him to the outside where Chandler goes to help. Arsenal gets tagged in and flies off the top rope with a Senton to crash into both Johnson and Chandler. Everyone beats the count, but the referee gets bumped as Arsenal misses with a splash in the corner. It allows Wolf Hawkins and Chris Flynn to interfere, but they are soon fought off by Mighty Mo and T-Bone Bright who come rushing to the defence. The referee comes to with One Man Army as the legal man, as he hits Chandler with the Guided Missile for the win at 13:15. The action wasn’t great and it was overbooked, but the crowd was eating it up. [64] Of course, all eight men brawl ahead of next week’s Battleground Match - with the faces getting the better of The Syndicate. [63]

Meanwhile, Jay Chord is very happy with his handiwork on Edd Stone earlier. So much so, he’s bringing back The Legacy Lounge for Night 2 of Battleground next week. And his guest is his old rival - Sammy Bach. [70]

Battleground Match - Team Razzle Dazzle (Chance Fortune, Clark Alexander, Darryl Devine & Dazzling Dave Diamond) vs. Sinner Society (Eddie Peak, Killer Shark, Nick Booth & Titan

The surprise partner is Clark Alexander, who returns for the first time in nearly a decade looking about two decades older. [37]. Floyd Goldworthy is at ringside. Alexander and Booth start with some standard big man vs. small man action. Fortune is soon replaced by Devine who finds himself in similar trouble, with all three giants getting in offence. Eventually, Diamond is tagged in and the veteran brawler looks pumped to get his hands on Eddie Peak. Eddie wants none of it, but is eventually tagged in by Nick Booth for the big showdown. Peak bumps around the ring for Diamond, and eventually leaves the ring. Only for Diamond to follow leaving them both to get counted out at 6:09. Diamond though manages to lay a beating on Peak up the ramp, only for Peak to nail him downstairs with a kick and then hightail it backstage. Meanwhile, in the ring, Goldsworthy cheers on as Killer Shark ends Devine’s night with a choke bomb at 10:18 to make it 3 vs. 2. Booth tries to control Alexander, but Alexander hits the Hawaiian Breaker to level the numbers at 13:15. That leaves the tag champions in control, and after some back and forth Fortune hits a Stroke of Luck on Titan at 16:22. Alone against two men, Killer Shark fights back and mauls Alexander with the Big Bite at 17:10 and then immediately hits Fortune with the Big Bite as well. That only gets two as Fortune gets a foot on the ropes, and Fortune eventually manages to fight back to hit the Stroke of Luck from the middle rope for the win at 19:38. Long and never really got going. [60] Without Peak to guide him, Goldworthy has no choice to accept a tag title challenge on behalf of The Behemoths for next week’s show - but it’ll be a tables match. Goldworthy laughs and wishes Devine Fortune luck in getting the giants to go through a table. [54]

Meanwhile, Aaron Andrews is pumped to get his revenge on Doc Hammond. He’s got a big bandage on his forehead after last night’s beat down.

TCW World Title - Aaron Andrews © vs. Doc Hammond

Much like One Man Army earlier, Andrews comes flying out of the gate with a barrage of offence against his rival. Hammond is taken aback and takes a breather on the outside, only for Andrews to launch over the top rope with a springboard to put him down. Both beat the count, but Andrews seems winded from his barrage as Hammond works his way back into the bout. Leg drop gets two, before Andrews manages to fight out of a long rest hold with a back suplex for his own near fall. Andrews is distracted as Chris Flynn comes to ringside, allowing Hammond to work his way back into control with some small joint manipulation and then a sidewalk slam for two. With Flynn distracting the referee, Hammond takes the protection off the turnbuckle - and sends Andrews flying into it head first to bust him open again. A pair of DDTs gets two, before Andrews fights out the Texas Cloverleaf to get a near fall. Flynn tries to get involved, but Andrews drop kicks him into the barricade outside. Hammond again takes control, but his charge in the corner misses and he goes head first into the exposed turnbuckle himself. Andrews then goes up top and hits the Flying Cross Body to retain the title at 14:12. A bit clunky at times with some slow spots, but the crowd ate it up and Andrews was typically exceptional. [72].

FINAL WORD: A couple of mis-steps this week but saved by a decent main event, though Hammond’s act at the top of the card seems to be wearing a bit thin. Hopefully the Battleground Matches next week are an improvement on this one, otherwise it might be time to shelve or refresh the concept.

Predictions - Battleground on Ace (Night 1)

Deafstroke - 3/5

Puto - 3/5

TCP1 - 3/5

Dalton - 2/5

Herrbear - 1/5

A couple of surprises threw people (including an unfair Battle Royal pick), but otherwise pretty steady!

I'm still trying to get used to booking TCW and using storylines, so I think the matches are suffering from low heat. What do others do for storylines - have ones for each feud or just bulk ones for main event, mid-card, etc.

Battleground Match - Old Dogs, New Tricks (Bart Biggins, Benny Benson, Dean Daniels & Flying Jimmy Foxx) vs. Revolt (Greg Gauge, Joshua Taylor, Marc Speed & Matt Hocking)

Before the match, Revolt give a picture-in-picture promo where Joshua Taylor promises a 4-0 win. [54] Gauge and Daniels start. The former tag partners trade blows, but Gauge works Daniels over with forearms in the corner. Hocking takes over, but Daniels soon fights back and gets a sunset flip for a near fall. Benson and Foxx take turns against Hocking, before Speed gets tagged in and batters both with suplexes. He nearly gets Foxx to tap with an arm bar, but Biggins makes the save. Speed goes toe-to-toe with Biggins, and gets the first fall - crushing Biggins with a belly-to-belly at 7:19. Daniels tries to get the upper hand against Speed, but he's made to tap to a knee bar at 8:30. Taylor is tagger in as the match finally lifts a gear, as he goes toe-to-toe with Benson. Taylor and Gauge work Benson over with a couple of near falls, before Benson flies across the ring to tag in Foxx. After a brief moment in control, Foxx gets battered by Gauge with a lariat and is pinned following a pump handle slam at 11:22. That leaves Biggins in an impossible spot at 4-on-1. He gets a near fall against Hocking following a flying elbow, but Taylor eventually gets back into the match and submits him with a cool variation on the Butterfly Lock at 14:21. An extended squash, which only heated up with Taylor/Gauge vs. Biggins. [61]

Meanwhile, Dazzling Dave Diamond delivers a promo from a local bar. He gets into a fight with a couple of locals, including one guy singing karaoke, and says he's got his heart set on beating Eddie Peak one-on-one. [66]

Elsewhere, Eddie Peak (with Nick Booth standing behind him) says there's always more room for sinners in the Sinner Society, but as far as he's concerned, he's done with Dave Diamond. [55]

M3e4gum.jpgSNZxGZk.jpgQf8gAVr.jpg

Clark Alexander vs. Nick Booth (with Eddie Peak)

Alexander tries putting his sunglasses on Booth before the match, which the big man does not like. Booth dominates Alexander to start, but soon gets dumped to the floor. Peak gives him a pep talk at ringside, but his charge at Alexander sees him crash into the turnbuckle. A roll-up from Alexander gets two. Alexander continues to play to the crowd, before Booth clubs him with a chop. Sidewalk slam gets two. Alexander starts to get his game face on, but his comeback is derailed as Peak distracts him at ringside. Booth gets another near fall with a suplex. Booth dominates for a big longer, but an attempted power bomb goes awry, and Alexander lands on top of him for a surprise pinfall at 6:01. Never really got going, but Booth's momentum continues to spiral. [41]

After the break, Aaron Andrews addresses the crowd after his win last week. He says he built Doc Hammond fair and square, and has his eyes on Total Mayhem in around two months' time. He says he knows there's a lot of contenders, calling out the likes of Jay Chord, Joshua Taylor, Mighty Mo, Sammy Bach and of course Wolf Hawkins, and says he's ready for whoever is coming at him. OK then. [66]

Meanwhile, Doc Hammond delivers a pre-recorded response to Andrews from somewhere off-site (called "The Syndicate" headquarters). He says Andrews isn't done with him that easily. He thought for sure he had the title wrapped up last week, but Andrews is making a big mistake if he thinks that's the last he's heard from The Doc. [74]

t3AQInZ.jpgSNZxGZk.jpgQA1xn1l.jpg

Mad Man Boone vs. Maverick

Anyone who said they saw Mad Man Boone making a comeback in 2020 is a LIAR! Lock up to start from Maverick, which is a complete waste of time as Boone levels him with a headbutt. Boone stumbles around the ring as Maverick back tracks, and both tumble to the outside. Maverick rakes the eyes of Boone to get back into control, and sends the broken old man into the barricades. He tries lifting Boone up in a nice spot, but can't do it - taking a breather to hold his back. Boone levels him with a clothesline. The match returns to the ring shortly after, where Boone puts an end to it with the Boone and Bust at 3:46. No weapons and no heat, but these two have OK chemistry. [40]

Meanwhile, One Man Army, Human Arsenal, Mighty Mo & T-Bone Bright take turns saying they will overcome The Syndicate in their Battleground Match. [63]

Meanwhile, a more subdued Wolf Hawkins (without The Syndicate) disagrees, and has a special message for the One Man Army: Wolf is going to win, again. [80]

Legacy Lounge time, as Jay Chord plays host to his old rival Sammy Bach. Chord spends most of his time making fun of the "ageing rocker", reminding him of his singles win at Malice in Wonderland (which came with the help of a steel chair). Bach takes it in good spirits, but eventually Chord's words start to wear him down and the two face off in a tense confrontation. That brings out Freddy Huggins who attacks Bach from behind, and he and Chord start double teaming the former All-Action Champion. That's until Edd Stone makes the save, as the faces fight back and clean house - and we have a tag team match for next week. Good stuff. [74]

Battleground Match - The Conglomerate (Human Arsenal, Mighty Mo, One Man Army & T-Bone Bright) vs. The Syndicate (Chris Flynn, Eddie Chandler, Nate Johnson & Wolf Hawkins)

One Man Army and Chandler start. OMA fires away with right hands, leading Chandler to tag out to Johnson. The Syndicate takes turns facing off against Army, before Flynn finally gets control with a big boot. Press slam gets two. Army soon works his way back into the bout, before tagging in Bright. Bright comes in with some high paced offence, but he's soon cut down by Hawkins who nails a jumping front kick. Full Moon Rising ends T-Bone's night at 5:22. Mighty Mo goes toe-to-toe with Hawkins, and gets the upper hand before being cut off by the interfering Chandler. Hawkins and Mo get in some nice spots, before Arsenal gets tagged in. Arsenal puts Hawkins on the back foot, but is soon distracted by Flynn. This allows Hawkins to get the upper hand, before Arsenal manages to tag in One Man Army. Hawkins plays games and tags out to Flynn, but can only watch on as Army hits Flynn with the Siege Breaker to level things up at 13:18. The Elite take turns controlling Army in a long heat segment, before Army gets the hot tag to Mighty Mo. Mo again raises the tempo before the heels manage to claw back control with a double team. Arsenal is tagged in, but he walks straight into the Elitism from Chandler & Johnson, and Chandler completes the pin at 16:58. The Syndicate take control with the numbers again, before Mo finally manages to tag out and a red hot One Man Army comes tearing in. Guided Missile ends Eddie Chandler's night at 20:10, and Mo is tagged into hit the Pounce of Nate Johnson at 21:01. Hawkins puts up a fight including with some underhanded tactics, but he's soon Pounced by Mighty Mo straight into a Guided Missile from Army as the faces win Battleground at 24:47. The action dragged at times, but the crowd was red hot - particularly for Hawkins/Mo. [73]

Meanwhile, the two teams warm up for tonight's main event. [59]

NEXT WEEK! Jay Chord & Freddy Huggins vs. Sammy Bach & Edd Stone! Greg Gauge vs. Elliot Thomas for the TV Title! Aaron Andrews vs. T-Bone Bright!

TCW World Tag Team Titles, Tables Match - The Behemoths (Killer Shark & Titan) © (with Floyd Goldworthy) vs. Devine Fortune (Chance Fortune & Darryl Devine)

Doakes clarifies that it's tornado tag rules and the match doesn't finish until both partners are put through tables. Shark peels off to fight with Devine, while Titan faces off with Fortune. Fortune is quickly sent to the outside, allowing the champions to combine against Devine. Mighty Fine eventually fights back, and Fortune comes off the top rope to put both heels down on the ground. The two teams continue to brawl, before Killer Shark accidentally eliminates himself at 5:52 by trying to charge into Devine while he's lying on the table in the corner. STUPID. That leaves Titan to fight off both opponents, and he takes the upper hand by pushing Fortune off the top rope to the outside. Devine is distracted by Goldworthy at ringside, allowing Titan to get control and hit the Titanic Choke Slam through a table to eliminate Devine at 8:40. Killer Shark almost immediately returns to the ring and the two champions double team Fortune, before Devine regains consciousness and sends Shark and himself sprawling to the outside with a clothesline. Goldworthy again tries to get involved, but gets a clothesline for his troubles. That gives Titan an opening, but Fortune slips out the back of the Titanic Choke Slam and hits a bulldog on Titan through the table to claim the titles at 11:39. I did not see that coming! This had some decent heat, but was a rough watch. It probably needed some more smoke and mirrors, and Devine Fortune looked worryingly slow. [61]

FINAL WORD: Check this out for The Syndicate match and the Jay Chord segment, but otherwise give this one a miss. Putting the tag title match on last was a big vote of confidence for those teams, but it was a big whiff.

And hey, this is a show that gave us Mad Man Boone vs. Julian Watson. On national TV. In 2020.
