Oooo! Speculation time! My money's on Silver vs. Priest.

Dreltzer loves Priest.

As Dreltzer should! Who doesn't enjoy a vulgar display of power and wrestling brutality? The First Church provides!

Honestly if it's not Silver/Priest throwing bombs for 10 Rounds? Rose/Diamond could be a marathon (though Diamond's apparently weak to submission grapplers) or one of the two 1st First Blood Matches.

You know, I’ll be a benevolent GM.

Let me finish editing the commentary for said MOTN, finish my usual prep work and preliminary formatting, and since predictions are in, I’ll post the show tonight.

To quote a famous poet and philosopher of our time...

Y'all want a great match?  Nah.  Bump that...

You want your five star matches? You want your thirty minute classics?  Not me....

THE LEAGUE: SEASON NINE, WEEK EIGHT

DELTA DIVISION

4ZAKk1I.jpg (4) Kichi Hida (4-3, OVR 420)*

vs.

(8) Devil's Delight (1-6, OVR 405) 54miFm6.jpgxJrKs53.jpg

Hida followed up her impressive initial outing in Tag Team Turmoil by outclassing Delight and never being in trouble from the start.  Delight got some offense in, but nowhere near enough as Hida ran through Delight, knee-first, to complete the season sweep against the hapless League rookie in quick fashion.

Kichi Hida (5-3) def. Devil's Delight (1-7) via Pinfall (Endless Violence) in 7:09.  Rating: **

Changes for Kichi Hida:  OVR + 3.81, XP + 483.43, no notable damage

Changes for Devil's Delight:  OVR -0.07, XP + 120.86, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

wtKjCIc.jpg (1) Lucas Molina (6-1, OVR 424)

vs.

(7) Lord Robert Abernathy (2-5, OVR 408)* 8CXZgHS.jpg

This ended up being more of a technical bout than their previous encounter, though there was no rhythm to it at all and was poorly received by fans and critics alike. The upshot for Molina is that he avenged his earlier loss to Abernathy this season, though it still took him nearly ten tries to finally get the Molina Bodylock applied and earn the submission.

Lucas Molina (7-1) def. Lord Robert Abernathy (2-6) via Submission (Molina Bodylock) in 15:37.  Rating: *

Changes for Lucas Molina:  OVR + 3.02, XP + 446.87, no notable damage

Changes for Lord Robert Abernathy:  OVR -0.92, XP + 111.72, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION FIRST BLOOD MATCH

limej5G.jpgxd5Rq8a.jpg (6) Erick Gibson (3-4, OVR 438)*

vs.

(8) El Tornado (0-7, OVR 424) LTFF6jR.jpg

Any other night, this would have been Match of the Night for sure. So that tells you that something huge has to be coming if a four-star match didn’t win the award. This was back-and-forth from the opening bell, with neither man backing down and Karen McClure staying well away from the ring itself, letting Gibson fight his own battle. With the rulebook all but tossed out, Gibson had no qualms with going underhanded in his offensive approach, trying to blind Tornado or render him helpless by going low on the luchador. Tornado would fight back, hitting DDTs and knee drops of his own in an effort to weaken Gibson enough that the blood would flow easier.  When Gibson began breaking out the Terminable Offense attempts, Tornado knew he was on borrowed time and needed to finish this quickly.

The final four minutes were a hectic sprint, with Tornado trying to wear down Gibson’s stamina and open him up to more attacks. A missed swinging rope blast by Tornado was his last gasp, though, as a DDT followed by a well-placed knee drop finally busted Tornado open. Gibson wins a match that at the time, everyone was sure was going to be match of the Night.  They didn’t know what was coming on the second half of the card….

Erick Gibson (4-4) def. El Tornado (0-8) via First Blood (measured knee drop) in 13:48.  Rating: ****

Changes for Erick Gibson:  OVR + 6.89, XP + 652.89, major damage to head, minor damage to body

Changes for El Tornado:  OVR + 2.56, XP + 163.22, major damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

2X2r9qf.jpg (7) Indigo Rose (2-5, OVR 432)*

vs.

(4) Diamond (3-4, OVR 447) 0rDaDU8.jpg

Rose had scored an upset over Diamond earlier this season, and looked for an improbable sweep against the First Lady of the League this week. She ended up having a good week to have Diamond on the schedule, as the League Original was still too worn down after the loss in the Tag Team Turmoil finals to withstand even a single variated DDT, and Rose picked up her third win of the season in short order, surprising more than a few watching the show.

Indigo Rose (3-5) def. Diamond (3-5) via Pinfall (Blood From a Rose) in 7:33.  Rating: **

Changes for Indigo Rose:  OVR + 3.83, XP + 556.17, no notable damage

Changes for Diamond:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.04, no notable damage

BETA DIVISION

ginc2gw.jpg (8) Terrance Stevens (1-6, OVR 439)

vs.

(5) Markus Clay (3-4, OVR 441)* N0Y594C.jpg

A Match of the Night contender, this started with Clay having an early advantage that he squandered, letting Stevens back in the match about eight minutes in.  From there until eleven minutes in, Stevens controlled the pace but could not get Clay in a good position for his superkick.  A Stevens spear being countered with a forearm shiver put the control back on Clay’s side, and he would not relinquish it. Two minutes later, the Johannesburg Express arrived on schedule, and Stevens’ woes in the Beta Division continue as Clay finishes the season sweep.

Markus Clay (4-4) def. Terrance Stevens (1-7) via Pinfall (Johannesburg) in 13:52.  Rating: ***

Changes for Markus Clay:  OVR + 5.42, XP + 685.37, minor damage to head

Changes for Terrance Stevens:  OVR + 0.75, XP + 171.34, minor damage to head and body

BETA DIVISION

ZCYwviV.jpg (6) Angela Wassermann (2-5, OVR 436)*

vs.

(7) Blood River (2-5, OVR 456) T127n44.jpgdTs8j7q.jpg

A crucial match to temporarily escape the relegation spots in the Beta Division, this one also was a Match of the Night contender.  It was even throughout, but it wasn’t until the ten-minute mark that things picked up a notch. That’s about the time Wassermann really started to focus on the arm of River, looking for her Cross Arm Breaker, but River had it well-scouted and fought it off on a half-dozen attempts. Even an arm triangle, which Wassermann surprised him with, didn’t get a submission. When he had the offensive, River took to the skies early and often, hitting multiple slingshot guillotinas that only netted two and a couple springboard splashes that did the same. In the end, River would borrow from the Delta Division’s Kichi Hida, landing a double-footed stomp from the top turnbuckle that drove the wind from Wassermann and kept her down for three.

Blood River (3-5) def. Angela Wassermann (2-6) via Pinfall (top rope double footed stomp) in 15:29.  Rating: ***

Changes for Blood River:  OVR + 5.54, XP + 686.47, moderate damage to head. Minor damage to body

Changes for Angela Wassermann:  OVR + 0.77, XP + 171.62, moderate damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION FIRST BLOOD MATCH

VfA2MW8.jpg (8) Pulsar (1-6, OVR 438)

vs.

(1) De'siree Mitchell (5-2, OVR 449)* p54rf5F.jpg

Saved from being a squash by some Pulsar offense two-thirds of the way through, Mitchell controlled this one easily, utilizing a spinning elbow blow to break through the forehead of Pulsar’s mask and bust him open at the same time.  With one well-timed blow, Mitchell holds on to at least a share of the Alpha Division lead via record, and may still leave Week Eight with the division lead and thus inside track to the League Championship.

De'siree Mitchell (6-2) def. Pulsar (1-7) via First Blood (spinning elbow blow) in 11:08.  Rating: **

Changes for De'siree Mitchell:  OVR + 4.27, XP + 728.02, no notable damage

Changes for Pulsar:  OVR + 0.88, XP + 182.00, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

V1I70uc.jpg (6) Jimmy Anarchy (2-5, OVR 437)

vs.

(2) Monty Dhillon (5-2, OVR 465)* vz0qqDp.jpg

There was nothing pretty about this one. Anarchy refused to stay down after a pair of Livewire Lariats, forcing Dhillion to chain together a spinning elbow blow (which also didn’t keep Anarchy down), a low blow (which still didn’t do the trick), and finally an Empire Bomb that did the trick. A lengthy squash by and large, Dhillon continues to keep the pace with Molina near the top of the Delta Division.

Monty Dhillon (6-2) def. Jimmy Anarchy (2-6) via Pinfall (Empire Bomb) in 7:54.  Rating: *

Changes for Monty Dhillon:  OVR + 2.72, XP + 443.48, no notable damage

Changes for Jimmy Anarchy:  OVR -0.83, XP + 110.87, minor damage to head and body

ALPHA DIVISION

iLs7NYn.jpg (7) The Mastodon (2-5, OVR 447)

vs.

(5) Mel O'Hallister (3-4, OVR 463)* e8cytyP.jpg

Much like the only other Tag Team Turmoil finalist to compete so far this evening, O’Hallister struggled the longer the match went. By eleven minutes in, he looked out on his feet, and soon after Mastodon capitalized on this with a massive Rampage that dropped O’Hallister. The pin was academic, and despite the announcement party O’Hallister held just a week ago, he was unable to translate that into a win as Mastodon gets a much-needed victory to make the fight to avoid dropping into Beta that much more interesting.

The Mastodon (3-5) def. Mel O'Hallister (3-5) via Pinfall (Rampage) in 13:37.  Rating: **

Changes for The Mastodon:  OVR + 4.17, XP + 729.80, minor damage to head

Changes for Mel O'Hallister:  OVR -0.07, XP + 182.45, no notable damage

BETA DIVISION HARDCORE MATCH

IgD64Oj.jpg (2) Reverend Johnny Gross (5-2, OVR 450)*

vs.

(3) Jean-Paul Ouilette (5-2, OVR 462) ZThYhej.jpgAAdEYyr.jpg

Despite never leaving the ring, this one turned bloody by five minutes in, as Gross busted Ouilette open, and the bleeding got worse in the next two minutes.  Ouilette simply could not find any offensive ground after that, and the first attempt at Gross’s submission finisher (when a low blow didn’t do the trick) was enough to score the victory and create a little separation atop the Beta Division.

Reverend Johnny Gross (6-2) def. Jean-Paul Ouilette (5-3) via Submission (Come to Jesus) in 8:50.  Rating: **

Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross:  OVR + 3.90, XP + 629.51, no notable damage

Changes for Jean-Paul Ouilette:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.38, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

hlph25Q.jpg (2) George Mastachas (5-2, OVR 455)*

vs.

(4) Nuclear Templeton (4-3, OVR 456) FqeSGy6.jpg

If you’d stopped watching seven minutes in, you’d never believe this was a Match of the Night contender. Not when Nuclear was clearly squashing Mastachas. It turns out that Mastachas had a game plan—let Nuclear unload his fury about Tag Team Turmoil, weather the storm, and then make a careful comeback when Nuclear had punched himself out. A good plan, and one that nearly worked. Theonly thing stopping it from succeeding is that Mastachas was too caught up in avoiding the lariat that he walked right into the variated guillotine choke, and had to tap. Nuclear evens up the season series, and more importantly to him does not let the gap between himself and Mitchell widen atop the standings.

Nuclear Templeton (5-3) def. George Mastachas (5-3) via Submission (Radiation Leak) in 17:32.  Rating: ***

Changes for Nuclear Templeton:  OVR + 5.69, XP + 793.68, moderate damage to head

Changes for George Mastachas:  OVR + 0.79, XP + 198.42, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body

DELTA DIVISION EUROPEAN RULES MATCH

va4qjuU.jpg (5) Sterling Silver (3-4, OVR 450)

vs.

(3) Christian Priest (5-2, OVR 481)* NldKaI4.jpgAOP9il0.jpg

Bob Sinclair: Up next on the card is a European Rules match–

Frankie Garnett: Oh, no. Not this again.

Bob Sinclair: The last time we had one of these, Frankie, you encouraged Terrance Stevens to utilize a loophole. So why are you so negative now?

Frankie Garnett: Because now everyone’s going to be doing it and it’ll lose the uniqueness!

Bob Sinclair: …right. Anyway, out next match is between Christian Priest and one-half of the Tag Team Turmoil champions, Sterling Silver.

Frankie Garnett: Well, this isn’t going to be much of a match anyway then.

Bob Sinclair: We’ll see soon enough, as the bell sounds and our opening round is underway!

Bob Sinclair: Down a fall, and nearly losing the second there, how is he going to come out for the fourth round?

Bob Sinclair: That doesn’t mean I have to like it, Frankie! And I don’t like it one damn bit!

…It would not be until the following day that Maven Deltzer shocked the wrestling community by awarding this match five starts and proclaiming it a contender for Match of the Year in any promotion, not just The League. Finally, The League had its first singles match that made the wrestling fandom sit up and take notice that there was something behind this niche set-up running out of Maryland.

Fall 1: Silver pinned Priest (springboard senton bomb), 8:08

Fall 3: Priest pinned Silver (Canonized), 20:52

Changes for Sterling Silver:  OVR + 3.53, XP + 263.34, major damage to head, minor damage to body

This was the Match of the Night (6 [3 this season] for Christian Priest, 3 [2 this season] for Sterling Silver)

GAMMA DIVISION

9wxABJw.jpg (3) Diego Rodriguez (5-2, OVR 456)

vs.

(2) Yoshii Nakamatsu (6-1, OVR 463)* giFlbJV.jpg

This was sheer dogged persistence by Nakamatsu.  While he was never in danger of either of Rodriguez’s finishers, Nakamatsu found himself unable to stun Rodriguez enough to connect with an Emperor’s Fall of his own. For well over seven minutes, Nakamatsu tried many different variants, and each one Diego somehow found a way out of. It wasn’t until the ninth try, after a third DEVASTATION Knee connected, that Nakamatsu finally hit Rodriguez with the finisher to maintain (for the moment) a share of the Gamma Division lead. This would also open up a bit of space between second and third in the standings as the season continued to wind down.

Yoshii Nakamatsu (7-1) def. Diego Rodriguez (5-3) via Pinfall (Emperor’s Fall) in 18:59.  Rating: **

Changes for Yoshii Nakamatsu:  OVR + 4.48, XP + 562.48, minor damage to head

Changes for Diego Rodriguez:  OVR -0.08, XP + 140.62, major damage to head

BETA DIVISION

ha8RmaF.jpg (1) Daniel Simmons (6-1, OVR 467)

vs.

(4) Billy Norris (4-3, OVR 454)* ayWv1C3.jpg

A win kept Simmons in the overall division lead, a loss made the division that much tighter. Four minutes in, it didn’t seem like that second scenario would be coming to pass, as Simmons controlled the first third of the bout. A mistimed kick opened the door for Norris to come back, and he did precisely that as he picked up the pace and attacked Simmons from every side of the ring.  However, try as he might he was unable to land a Boomerang DDT on several occasions, and his lone attempt at the Down Under Disaster nearly ended with him getting rolled up for three. Instead, a long two-count was the result, and a minute later he found himself back on the offensive again. At one point, he leapt to the top turnbuckle, and tried for a flying clothesline only to be drilled into the mat by a Daniel Simmons spinebuster. It was almost academic from there, as a Quitting Time led to the submission.

Daniel Simmons (7-1) def. Billy Norris (4-4) via Submission (Quitting Time) in 14:18.  Rating: ***

Changes for Daniel Simmons:  OVR + 5.45, XP + 685.67, minor damage to head

Changes for Billy Norris:  OVR + 0.76, XP + 171.42, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION SUBMISSION MATCH

TxXkh5U.jpg (3) Brandy McDonald (5-2, OVR 472)*

vs.

(5) Big Scott Weathers (3-4, OVR 456) OOiJTFx.jpg

McDonald showed during Tag Team Turmoil that she had added a submission finish to her arsenal: a bulldog choke. Weathers had nothing like that in his arsenal. As one might expect, this wasn’t that close, as Brandy’s focused plan of attack was enough to put Weathers away before he could attempt some poor imitations of submission holds. McDonald keeps pace with Nuclear and Mitchell at the top end of the Alpha Division.

Brandy McDonald (6-2) def. Big Scott Weathers (3-5) via Submission (Hair of the Dog) in 17:32.  Rating: **

Changes for Brandy McDonald:  OVR + 4.39, XP + 732.62, no notable damage

Changes for Big Scott Weathers:  OVR -0.08, XP + 183.16, moderate damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

zTBxNBX.jpg (5) Jun Onoo (3-4, OVR 448)

vs.

(1) Brian Blackfield (6-1, OVR 496)* RdUenQh.jpg

The main event of the evening was a definite downgrade from earlier matches in the card. Onoo had some offense, using his power to batter Blackfield, but the man many on League fansites are calling “The Juggernaut” would not be stopped tonight. A systematic beatdown leading to the Highland’s Wrath ended the night with a submission for the Gamma Division leader heading into week nine.

Brian Blackfield (7-1) def. Jun Onoo (3-5) via Submission (Highland’s Wrath) in 10:12.  Rating: *

Changes for Brian Blackfield:  OVR + 2.81, XP + 511.16, no notable damage

Changes for Jun Onoo:  OVR -0.85, XP + 127.79, minor damage to head

For the two of you who had added new moves recently (one this week, one last that my sheet apparently cut off in calculations), those have been updated in the roster post on the first page of the thread.

I'm going to have dinner, actually do all the updates, and then start running things (so I can get back to the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters on PS4 tomorrow, lol),

PREDICTIONS:

ALPHA: Mastachas, Mitchell, Weathers, Nuclear

BETA: Simmons, River, Ouilette, Norris

GAMMA: Nakamatsu, Blackfield, Rodriguez, Diamond

DELTA: Priest, Hida, Silver, Abernathy (I want to see chaos in the bottom division with five weeks to go after this weekend....)

Nuclear almost smiled this week... almost.... then he went back to punching whatever was put in front of him, which made him even happier.  Almost smiled.  Almost.

May 5?  Is that a misprint or are you taking another week off?

No complaints if you are. Just asking. 😃

Misprint. For some reason I thought I was a week further on the calendar. I’m all discombobulated due to work (we’re a person short due to vacations until I finally get mine in May, so I’ve had to do 2+ people’s jobs at once for three weeks now).

Deadline is this Friday, APRIL 28TH.

THE LEAGUE: SEASON NINE, WEEK NINE

DELTA DIVISION

xJrKs53.jpg54miFm6.jpg (8) Devil's Delight (1-7, OVR 405)

vs.

(7) Lord Robert Abernathy (2-6, OVR 407)* 8CXZgHS.jpg

A sloppy match that Delight surprisingly had the upper hand throughout in. Sure, Abernathy made a comeback and sure, he managed to avoid Delight’s finisher on about a dozen occasions, but her stubbornness finally paid off with the reverse armbar being applied, and Abernathy tapping out.  Delight notches her second win of the season, which admittedly is two more than was expected for her at the beginning of the season, as Abernathy has to wonder just what went so horribly wrong.

Devil's Delight (2-7) def. Lord Robert Abernathy (2-7) via Submission (Purgatory’s End) in 11:18.  Rating: *

Changes for Devil's Delight:  OVR + 2.85, XP + 444.97, no notable damage

Changes for Lord Robert Abernathy:  OVR -0.87, XP + 111.24, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

va4qjuU.jpg (5) Sterling Silver (3-5, OVR 453)*

vs.

(6) Jimmy Anarchy (2-6, OVR 436) V1I70uc.jpg

Absolutely nothing worth writing about here. A quick, heatless match that saw Silver put Anarchy down rather easily without needing to resort to her 450 splash.

Sterling Silver (4-5) def. Jimmy Anarchy (2-7) via Pinfall (springboard splash) in 4:42.  Rating: *

Changes for Sterling Silver:  OVR + 2.59, XP + 442.07, no notable damage

Changes for Jimmy Anarchy:  OVR -0.79, XP + 110.52, no notable damage

GAMMA DIVISION

0rDaDU8.jpg (6) Diamond (3-5, OVR 447)*

vs.

(7) Jun Onoo (3-5, OVR 447) zTBxNBX.jpg

A minor step up from the prior two matches, this one was at least more competitive if not nearly as exciting.  Diamond utilized her speed to avoid a fair amount of Onoo’s power punches and eventually put him down with a single attempt at the 24 Karat Kiss. The win is much-needed for Diamond who opens a little space between herself and the relegation zone to Delta.

Diamond (4-5) def. Jun Onoo (3-6) via Pinfall (24 Karat Kiss) in 12:11.  Rating: **

Changes for Diamond:  OVR + 4.09, XP + 558.73, minor damage to head

Changes for Jun Onoo:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.68, moderate damage to head

BETA DIVISION

ayWv1C3.jpg (4) Billy Norris (4-4, OVR 455)*

vs.

(8) Terrance Stevens (1-7, OVR 440) ginc2gw.jpg

Credit goes to Stevens in a losing effort—he managed to avoid the Down Under Disaster on a handful of occasions and on one such instance nearly rolled up a surprised Norris for three. Norris kicked out at 2.8 though, and eventually decided if the kick wouldn’t do it, his floatover DDT would do the trick. It did so in one, and Norris leaves week nine still on the fringes of the promotion hunt.

Billy Norris (5-4) def. Terrance Stevens (1-8) via Pinfall (Boomerang DDT) in 12:01.  Rating: **

Changes for Billy Norris:  OVR + 4.08, XP + 631.50, minor damage to head

Changes for Terrance Stevens:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.87, moderate damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION SUBMISSION MATCH

9wxABJw.jpg (3) Diego Rodriguez (5-3, OVR 456)*

vs.

(5) Indigo Rose (3-5, OVR 435) 2X2r9qf.jpg

On paper, this looked to be a killer draw for both participants. After all, these are two of the best technical wrestlers in the League, and both have at least one submission finisher. This had all the makings of an instant classic. Alas, this match was more of a slugfest early, and only once Rose got the advantage with her variated DDT did she try for the first time to end the match with a proper submission. It’d also be the only one she’d need, as she got the Vite d’Indaco in tight, and Rodriguez was left with no choice but to tap. Rose wins in a minor upset and while she’s not likely to contend for a division title—not with Blackfield and Nakamatsu sitting at 7-1 in the division—the win looked to give her space from the bottom end of the division.

Indigo Rose (4-5) def. Diego Rodriguez (5-4) via Submission (Vite d’Indaco) in 15:44.  Rating: **

Changes for Indigo Rose:  OVR + 4.29, XP + 560.68, no notable damage

Changes for Diego Rodriguez:  OVR -0.08, XP + 140.17, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

AAdEYyr.jpgZThYhej.jpg (3) Jean-Paul Ouilette (5-3, OVR 462)*

vs.

(7) Angela Wassermann (2-6, OVR 436) ZCYwviV.jpg

Wassermann let this one get away.  She had the advantage for the majority of the first seven minutes, but somewhere around eight minutes deep she seemed to be unable to hit any offense at all, and Ouilette worked his way in quickly, only needing a single attempt at Le Petit Mort to emerge victorious and remain in the promotion hunt at the upper end of the Beta Division.

Jean-Paul Ouilette (6-3) def. Angela Wassermann (2-7) via Pinfall (Le Petit Mort) in 11:30.  Rating: **

Changes for Jean-Paul Ouilette:  OVR + 4.05, XP + 631.18, minor damage to head

Changes for Angela Wassermann:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.79, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

FqeSGy6.jpg (4) Nuclear Templeton (5-3, OVR 462)*

vs.

(8) Pulsar (1-7, OVR 438) VfA2MW8.jpg

Nuclear let Pulsar have a faint bit of hope before turning the aggression to about 14. A handful of Radiation Spikes, a Power Surge, and some seated knuckle punches that tore through the mask and busted Pulsar open, all preceded the eventual Radiation Leak that spelled doom for Pulsar. Templeton still needs a bit of help, not to mention handling his own business, to get into title contention but a win against the struggling Pulsar would help in that regard.

Nuclear Templeton (6-3) def. Pulsar (1-8) via Submission (Radiation Leak) in 12:15.  Rating: **

Changes for Nuclear Templeton:  OVR + 4.09, XP + 728.82, no notable damage

Changes for Pulsar:  OVR -0.07, XP + 182.21, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

dTs8j7q.jpgT127n44.jpg (6) Blood River (3-5, OVR 462)

vs.

(5) Markus Clay (4-4, OVR 446)* N0Y594C.jpg

The first Match of the Night contender on the card, about halfway in, this was a good cruiserweight showcase that saw Clay make a single mistake—missing a springboard senton—and River taking advantage with a slingshot moonsault that only got two, and a follow springboard splash that did the trick. River grabs a much-needed win to help his chances of not falling back to Gamma a season later. With the way the card is going, this may well be the Match of the Night.

Blood River (4-5) def. Markus Clay (4-5) via Pinfall (springboard splash) in 10:35.  Rating: ***

Changes for Blood River:  OVR + 5.18, XP + 683.15, no notable damage

Changes for Markus Clay:  OVR + 0.72, XP + 170.79, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

OOiJTFx.jpg (5) Big Scott Weathers (3-5, OVR 456)*

vs.

(6) The Mastodon (3-5, OVR 451) iLs7NYn.jpg

Bob Sinclair: An Alpha Division match is on tap now, as Big Scott Weathers and The Mastodon both look to create a little space from themselves from the bottom of the rankings.

Frankie Garnett: Normally, I’m one to praise size over anything, which seems to work in The League at least half the time, bit I don’t think Stevens is going to be so easily fooled. He’s the resident cheater of the Alpha Division, and I think Mastodon’s in for another long night.

Bob Sinclair: An astute prediction, Frankie, given that Weathers did indeed win the first match between them this season. But we’ll find out soon enough as neither man wants to wait any longer. The bell sounds, and we are underway!

Bob Sinclair: A guy that size, Frankie, an elbow drop might seem simple but it’s going to hurt.

Frankie Garnett: Almost like having a car dropped on your chest. It may be early yet but Weathers is probably glad he got out of the way of that one all too quickly!

Bob Sinclair: Weathers has been in almost total control the last few minutes, Frankie. You predicted Weathers to win this one, are you surprised at all?

Frankie Garnett: Just a bit, Bob. Mastodon hasn’t put up much of a fight yet, but Weathers does have to remember in the back of his head that Mastodon can go off on an adrenaline rush and should plan for it.

Bob Sinclair: …Frankie, are you all right?

Frankie Garnett: Um…yeah? Why?

Bob Sinclair: You’ve been strangely on point this entire match and haven’t tried to offend anyone once yet. It’s been rather…tame…for you all show so far.

Frankie Garnett:  Oh, that. Nah, nothing’s wrong, it’s just that my niece is watching tonight and I told her I’d be on my best behavior for her.

Bob Sinclair: Wait, what? Frankie doing something for the kids?

Frankie Garnett: Not so loud! You’ll ruin my reputation, Bob!

Frankie Garnett: Sorry. Sister sent me a picture of the niece. Fell asleep in front of the TV.

Frankie Garnett: Yes. Yes she is, Bob. I may play up the brash persona for a gimmick but for them, the people who truly have it together, I can be real.

DELTA DIVISION

vz0qqDp.jpg (2) Monty Dhillon (6-2, OVR 468)

vs.

(4) Kichi Hida (5-3, OVR 424)* 4ZAKk1I.jpg

Dhillon looked like early on that he was going to avenge his defeat to Hida earlier this season.  Hida made a comeback, making the match a lost closer than many thought. Despite a pait of Livewire Lariats, Dhillon refused to try for the Empire Bomb, instead looking for some sort of lifting submission hold, but when Hida dimmed his lights on the counter with a spinning elbow blow, Monty could not answer the three-count. Hida pulls off the win and half of the chaos equation comes to fruition in the Delta Division, with the last remaining match in the division still to come!

GAMMA DIVISION

RdUenQh.jpg (1) Brian Blackfield (7-1, OVR 499)*

vs.

(8) El Tornado (0-8, OVR 427) LTFF6jR.jpg

After the stinker of a main event last week, League officials put Blackfield closer to the center of the card this week knowing the conclusion was likely forgone against the winless Tornado. Things…went about how you’d expect them to go, in all honesty, as Blackfield broke out the Scotland Destroyer to finish this match definitively.

Brian Blackfield (8-1) def. El Tornado (0-9) via Pinfall (Scotland Destroyer) in 8:03.  Rating: *

giFlbJV.jpg (2) Yoshii Nakamatsu (7-1, OVR 467)*

vs.

(4) Erick Gibson (4-4, OVR 445) xd5Rq8a.jpglimej5G.jpg

Anyone who stopped watching halfway through this match thought they’d come back to a commercial after Nakamatsu put Gibson away. They would not have seen Gibson fight out of an Emperor’s Fall and go on a tear in the final three minutes, the offensive rally ending with a Terminable Offense in what would be a Match of the Night contender. Combined with the Blackfield win, Yoshii’s chances of winning the Gamma Division now likely hinge on whether he can beat Blackfield in the return match and if so, how quickly. Gibson still needs some help to make it to Beta, but tonight was a huge help for his chances.

Erick Gibson (5-4) def. Yoshii Nakamatsu (7-2) via Pinfall (Terminable Offense) in 10:30.  Rating: ***

ALPHA DIVISION

e8cytyP.jpg (7) Mel O'Hallister (3-5, OVR 463)

vs.

(1) De'siree Mitchell (6-2, OVR 454)* p54rf5F.jpg

The only other true Match of the Night contender on this card, this looked to be O’Hallister’s match early on, as he battered the Alpha Division leader mercilessly for the first ten minutes of the contest. After an Irish Clover failed to get the submission, O’Hallister managed to work his way into position for the Dream of the Emerald Isle. Mitchell was having none of it, though, and dropped O’Hallister with a headbutt and then a measured knee drop that busted the Irishman open.

This would ultimately prove to be O’Hallister’s downfall, as despite getting Mitchell in position for his finisher a few more times, she would fight out of it and seriously worsen the bleeding with focused offense to the forehead and scalp. After a series of rear naked punches ended up getting blood in O’Hallister’s eyes, he blindly got to his feet and swing wildly, missing Mitchell by a good two feet as she flattened him with an All Out Blitz. The pinfall followed soon after, and Mitchell has to feel like she stole one from a man who needed it to help stave off relegation!

De'siree Mitchell (7-2) def. Mel O'Hallister (3-6) via Pinfall (All Out Blitz) in 20:58.  Rating: ****

Changes for De'siree Mitchell:  OVR + 7.29, XP + 857.61, moderate damage to head

AOP9il0.jpgNldKaI4.jpg (3) Christian Priest (6-2, OVR 491)

vs.

(1) Lucas Molina (7-1, OVR 427)* wtKjCIc.jpg

Given Hida’s upset of Dhillon, this match was huge for the implications in the Delta Division, with the winner likely to emerge as the front-runner to win the division. Priest didn’t seem to get the memo, though. It took him five minutes before he could get any offense in. It took him twelve minutes to get any significant offense in at all.  By fifteen minutes in, he had avoid the Molina Bodylock a half-dozen times. By nineteen minutes, he finally managed to attempt Canonized on Molina, who barely got out of the way. Ninety seconds later, Priest finally passed his Judgement on Molina, and scored a victory n a match he had no business winning after the opening minutes. Chaos now complete in the Delta Division, Molina maintains the division lead purely on strength of a faster victory over Priest in their first encounter—six and a half minutes faster to be precise.

Christian Priest (7-2) def. Lucas Molina (7-2) via Pinfall (Judgement) in 20:21.  Rating: **

Changes for Christian Priest:  OVR + 4.55, XP + 489.77, moderate damage to head, minor damage to legs

Changes for Lucas Molina:  OVR -0.08, XP + 122.44, minor damage to body

ALPHA DIVISION

hlph25Q.jpg (3) George Mastachas (5-3, OVR 455)*

vs.

(2) Brandy McDonald (6-2, OVR 476) TxXkh5U.jpg

It’s rare that a Match of the Night contender actually shows up at the tail end of the show, but that’s what the fans got here as McDonald fell behind early on in this one. A trio of Olympus Rises shoulder blocks slowed the reigning League Champion down some, but Mastachas simply could not wrestle McDonald into position to hit a Wrath of Zeus. She would eventually get one comeback too many and take full advantage, missing her impact finisher but instead utilizing her newer submission finish to score the victory and keep pace with Mitchell at the top of the standings.

Brandy McDonald (7-2) def. George Mastachas (5-4) via Submission (Hair of the Dog) in 19:11.  Rating: ***

Changes for Brandy McDonald:  OVR + 5.81, XP + 794.96, minor damage to head

Changes for George Mastachas:  OVR + 0.81, XP + 198.74, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

ha8RmaF.jpg (1) Daniel Simmons (7-1, OVR 472)*

vs.

(2) Reverend Johnny Gross (6-2, OVR 454) IgD64Oj.jpg

Main event time, with the winner having the inside track to both the Beta Division crown asnd promotion into Alpha. While the author feels like this should have been a Match of the Night contender, the powers that be decided otherwise, as Simmons blows an early lead, only for Gross to hand it back to him, only to then find Simmons failing to land a Blue Collar Driver and Gross following that with the combination of Kneel Before God and Come to Jesus to score the submission victory and put himself on the fast track to return to the Alpha Division nest season!

Reverend Johnny Gross (7-2) def. Daniel Simmons (7-2) via Submission (Come to Jesus) in 17:14.  Rating: **

Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross:  OVR + 4.38, XP + 634.75, minor damage to head

Changes for Daniel Simmons:  OVR -0.08, XP + 158.69, minor damage to head

I see everyone’s united on half the matches on the card.

I’ve got roughly a half-dozen moves to add and a few stats to adjust but the PC bouts are good to be run tonight, and show posted tomorrow morning as per usual.

The current MOTN is a four-star bout running just over 20 minutes. (And since I have not done PC bouts—NO, it is NOT Priest/Dhillon.)

THE LEAGUE: SEASON NINE, WEEK TEN

DELTA DIVISION TABLES MATCH

4ZAKk1I.jpg (3) Kichi Hida (6-3, OVR 428)*

vs.

(7) Lord Robert Abernathy (2-7, OVR 406) 8CXZgHS.jpg

Week Ten kicks off with a finish to match that many never saw coming. In what was otherwise an average bout, the match ended when Hida went for the Endless Carnival, only for Abernathy to roll off the table before she connected. Somehow, the table did not break when she stomped on it, which turned out to be the worst-case scenario for her. A minute later, Abernathy used the same table as he put Hida through it with an implant DDT to score the upset and start week ten on a chaotic note!

Lord Robert Abernathy (3-7) def. Kichi Hida (6-4) via Table Break (implant DDT) in 10:34.  Rating: **

Changes for Lord Robert Abernathy:  OVR + 4.00, XP + 485.07, no notable damage

Changes for Kichi Hida:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.27, no notable damage

GAMMA DIVISION

zTBxNBX.jpg (7) Jun Onoo (3-6, OVR 447)*

vs.

(8) El Tornado (0-9, OVR 426) LTFF6jR.jpg

Tornado desperately needed this one to stave off relegation. And in the opening minutes, he fought like he was aware of it. The problem with that is that Onoo knew it too, and let Tornado get a sense of security before storming back into the match. A missed moonsault press was Tornado’s last hope, as Onoo then hauled the luchador up into a press powerslam that landed flush, and the pin was academic as Tornado had the breath knocked out of him.  The loss all but seals Tornado’s relegation into Delta—he would need to win his next four matches, have Onoo lose his next four, Rose and Diamond to lose their next five, and pray for tiebreakers to fall his way in a potential four-way 4-10 logjam in order to prevent the drop.

Jun Onoo (4-6) def. El Tornado (0-10) via Pinfall (press powerslam) in 10:17.  Rating: **

Changes for Jun Onoo:  OVR + 3.98, XP + 557.68, minor damage to head

Changes for El Tornado:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.42, no notable damage

DELTA DIVISION

va4qjuU.jpg (5) Sterling Silver (4-5, OVR 456)

vs.

(8) Devil's Delight (2-7, OVR 408)* 54miFm6.jpgxJrKs53.jpg

Silver approached this match with a little more caution the second time around. After all, she was the only one who lost to Delight in the first half of the season.  About halfway in, she opened the throttle a little more, looking to out-speed Delight. But what Silver didn’t account for was Delight’s ring awareness in her preferred style—in her days before rehab, she was a reckless high-flier—that led to one missed move too many for Silver. The Purgatory’s End was locked in on the second attempt, and Silver was left with no choice but to tap. Delight completes the season sweep on Silver, in a turn of events that no one at all saw coming.

Devil's Delight (3-7) def. Sterling Silver (4-6) via Submission (Purgatory’s End) in 9:19.  Rating: **

Changes for Devil's Delight:  OVR + 3.93, XP + 484.47, no notable damage

Changes for Sterling Silver:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.12, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

wtKjCIc.jpg (1) Lucas Molina (7-2, OVR 427)*

vs.

(6) Jimmy Anarchy (2-7, OVR 435) V1I70uc.jpg

Anarchy’s only highlight in this match was somehow escaping a fully-applied Molina Bodylock without tapping.  Molina took that personally and had it applied a minute later (after the second Greetings From San Juan of the match). Anarchy was not escaping the second and tapped rather quickly, as the Delta Division leader continues to handle his business with eyes firmly set on promotion to the Gamma Division.

Lucas Molina (8-2) def. Jimmy Anarchy (2-8) via Submission (Molina Bodylock) in 12:22.  Rating: **

Changes for Lucas Molina:  OVR + 4.10, XP + 485.94, no notable damage

Changes for Jimmy Anarchy:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.48, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION HARDCORE MATCH

ZCYwviV.jpg (7) Angela Wassermann (2-7, OVR 436)*

vs.

(6) Markus Clay (4-5, OVR 447) N0Y594C.jpg

The first Match of the Night contender on the card, even if a bit short, this one saw Wassermann fight out of an early deficit to make things close around the six-minute mark.  Wassermann knew she needed a win here to keep any hope of staying in Beta alive, and fought like it in the second half of the match. The end came unexpectedly when a Superman punch got followed up by a spinning elbow, and Clay simply did not get a shoulder up in time.  Wasermann completes the sweep on the season, remains undefeated against Clay in The League (a perfect 4-0, and more importantly to her immediate future gives herself a fighting chance to avoid relegation with four weeks to go.

Angela Wassermann (3-7) def. Markus Clay (4-6) via Pinfall (spinning elbow blow) in 8:39.  Rating: ***

Changes for Angela Wassermann:  OVR + 5.03, XP + 681.85, no notable damage

Changes for Markus Clay:  OVR + 0.70, XP + 170.46. minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

limej5G.jpgxd5Rq8a.jpg (4) Erick Gibson (5-4, OVR 450)*

vs.

(5) Indigo Rose (4-5, OVR 440) 2X2r9qf.jpg

Surprisingly, this was not a Match of the Night contender. If had every right to be—a close match, great defense against finishers, rather suspenseful until the end—but many think it was the last thirty seconds that caused it to fall from contention.  Rose had Gibson in trouble, and had failed to lock in Vite d’Indaco twice in succession—the last one happening when Gibson got to the ropes.  Undeterred, Rose went to the ropes to disorient Gibson with a running school boy, only for Karen McClure to trip her out of the referee’s vision.  Rose turned to deal with the personal assistant, and walked into a roundhouse from Gibson that he immediately followed up with a Terminable Offense. Three seconds later, Gibson’s win could be easily credited to the direct interference of Karen McClure, as he steals the season sweep from Rose.

Erick Gibson (6-4) def. Indigo Rose (4-6) via Pinfall (Terminable Offense) in 16:04.  Rating: **

Changes for Erick Gibson:  OVR + 4.31, XP + 448.70, minor damage to head and legs

Changes for Indigo Rose:  OVR -0.08, XP + 140.22, moderate damage to head

BETA DIVISION

ginc2gw.jpg (8) Terrance Stevens (1-8, OVR 439)

vs.

(2) Reverend Johnny Gross (7-2, OVR 458)* IgD64Oj.jpg

Really not much to write about this one.  Aside from limited Stevens offense, this was all Gross all match. A single attempt at Come to Jesus is all Gross needed to notch his eighth win of the season. Stevens is going to need a minor miracle to remain in Beta—not quite to the level that Tornado needs to stay in Gamma, but the difference is minimal at best.

ALPHA DIVISON LAST ONE STANDING MATCH

hlph25Q.jpg (4) George Mastachas (5-4, OVR 456)*

vs.

(7) Mel O'Hallister (3-6, OVR 465) e8cytyP.jpg

Bob Sinclair: Up next is essentially a must-win for Mel O’Hallister, who has struggled after earning promotion from Beta Division in week fourteen of last season.

Frankie Garnett: I don’t like his chances, Bob. He’s got a bad right leg and he’s in a Last One Standing match. That has to be some sort of cosmic prank.

Bob Sinclair: On the opposite side of the ring, George Mastachas isn’t likely to get into title contention with a win here, nor will he drop into relegation territory with a loss. O’Hallister may have come into this match at the right time.

Frankie Garnett: We’ll see soon enough, Bob. It looks like we’re ready to go here.

Bob Sinclair: Indeed we are, as the bell sounds and this one is underway!

Frankie Garnett: That last bit might be just because he’s a redhead, Bob. It’s a known fact!

Frankie Garnett: You’ve told me this before, Bob. “Make the opponent use their energy to stand up.” I think it’s a good move, plus as mentioned, that bad leg of O’Hallister. And we all know the expression about the one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest, Bob.

Bob Sinclair: Regardless, Frankie, it’s not going to do it here, as O’Hallister gets up at the count of 8, and seems to be egging Mastachas on, to dare him to do more!

(21:30) Mel O'Hallister grabs Mastachas by the head...and a quick move to the mat later, Mastachas experiences the Dream of the Emerald Isle!

Bob Sinclair: One opening is all he needed, and now O’Hallister staggers over to a neutral corner, trying to get his wind back as Mastachas is only beginning to stir!

Frankie Garnett: For being on the shorter side, he gets a lot of velocity going on that reverse DDT, Bob. I haven’t seen too many kick out of this, but a pin does O’Hallister no good here!

Bob Sinclair: The ref is up to six—no, seven now, and Mastachas has only managed to roll onto his stomach. He’s close to the ropes, those might help him if he can get there. Ref’s up to eight…

Frankie Garnett: Right now, Bob, his best bet is to roll off the side of the apron and fall onto his feet at ringside. But will he be able to recognize that as the count hits nine?

Bob Sinclair: He reaches for a rope, only the fingertips brushing at it, and there’s ten!  This one is over, and Mel O’Hallister nets a huge win in the race to avoid relegation in the top flight!

Frankie Garnett: It may be a luck of the Irish thing, but it’s going to take more than that for O’Hallister to avoid the bottom two spots over the next four weeks, Bob. This is only just beginning at the tail end of the Alpha Division standings!

ALPHA DIVISION

VfA2MW8.jpg (8) Pulsar (1-8, OVR 438)

vs.

(2) Brandy McDonald (7-2, OVR 482)* TxXkh5U.jpg

There wasn’t much to write home about here. This was near-perfection by McDonald, who suffered some offense from Pulsar early before asserting dominance in the fight.  Pulsar did avoid about a half-dozen finisher attempts before walking into a Brandy With a Twist that put him down for three. McDonald keeps pace at the top of the division, with a repeat as League Champion still well within reach. As for Pulsar? The Beta Division appears to be in his future.

GAMMA DIVSIION

0rDaDU8.jpg (6) Diamond (4-5, OVR 451)

vs.

(2) Yoshii Nakamatsu (7-2, OVR 468)* giFlbJV.jpg

For eight minutes, Diamond controlled the match, having Nakamatsu in serious jeopardy. A missed dropkick to the back allowed Nakamatsu to fight back, and he wasted little time in pummeling Diamond down. Right at the ten-minute mark, a DEVASTATION Knee sent Diamond down for the count, as Nakamatsu picks up the win to keep abreast with Brian Blackfield. Diamond now has to dig deep to avoid relegation to Delta over the next four weeks.

ALPHA DIVISION

OOiJTFx.jpg (6) Big Scott Weathers (3-6, OVR 457)

vs.

(3) Nuclear Templeton (6-3, OVR 466)* FqeSGy6.jpg

A Match of the Night contender, this was close throughout save for a period halfway through the match where Nuclear had some sustained offense against Weathers. The resident cheater of the Alpha Division would claw back into it, putting Nuclear at risk of a Blackout. However, the abundance of Nuclear power was able to fend off Blackouts before they came, and Weathers eventually met Armageddon at the right hand of Nuclear.  Templeton remains within striking distance of the leaders, while Weathers has to wonder what might have been on this night. (And yes, wordplay was definitely intended there.)

Nuclear Templeton (7-3) def. Big Scott Weathers (3-7) via Pinfall (Armageddon Lariat) in 21:05.  Rating: ***

Changes for Nuclear Templeton:  OVR + 5.95, XP + 796.45, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

vs.

(4) Billy Norris (5-4, OVR 459) ayWv1C3.jpg

Ouilette had everything to lose here, while Norris had everything to gain. Both men fought like they knew this too, as it was close throughout if a bit dull.  Ouilette had the early advantage, but it was Norris who went for a finisher first and missed. Ouilette responded a minute later with his own attempt that Norris avoided. After a second failed attempt by Norris, he changed tactics and landed a Boomerang DDT. The ref apparently wasn't expecting this as he was out of position, but that wouldn’t be enough to prevent the count from reaching three. Norris stuns Ouilette with the win, and may have just opened up some space between the top two in the division and those currently tied for third!

Billy Norris (6-4) def. Jean-Paul Ouilette (6-4) via Pinfall (Boomerang DDT) in 14:36.  Rating: **

ALPHA DIVISION

iLs7NYn.jpg (5) The Mastodon (4-5, OVR 458)*

vs.

(1) De'siree Mitchell (7-2, OVR 461) p54rf5F.jpg

Mastodon had a surprising number of supporters in pundit circles coming into this match. After all, he beat Mitchell earlier this season, so he must have been doing something right.  Those pundits would leave this match with smiles on their faces, as Mastodon finished things before he could get himself into serious trouble. A single attempt at the lariat is all Mastodon would need, as the Alpha Division leader gets swept by an opponent, and a new leader rises in the form of the reigning and defending League Champion!

The Mastodon (5-5) def. De'siree Mitchell (7-3) via Pinfall (Rampage) in 11:24.  Rating: **

Changes for The Mastodon:  OVR + 4.05, XP + 728.21, no notable damage

Changes for De'siree Mitchell:  OVR -0.07, XP + 182.05, moderate damage to head

BETA DIVISION

vs.

(5) Blood River (4-5, OVR 467) T127n44.jpgdTs8j7q.jpg

River came into this one ready to fight. He took the fight to Simmons early, looking to cause some chaos atop the Beta Division standings as well.  Simmons fought back when and where he could but for the majority of the first seventy percent of the bout it was River in control.  However, as we’ve seen a few times over the last season-plus, the high risk moves are called that for a reason, and River rediscovered this when Simmons avoided a Crimson Regret and rolled up River for the pin. Simmons steals one to remain atop the Beta Division, and it could be this stolen win that ultimately nets him the division title!

Daniel Simmons (8-2) def. Blood River (4-6) via Pinfall (missed Crimson Regret) in 12:15.  Rating: ***

Changes for Daniel Simmons:  OVR + 5.30, XP + 684.28, moderate damage to head

Changes for Blood River:  OVR + 0.73, XP + 171.07, no notable damage

DELTA DIVISION

vz0qqDp.jpg (4) Monty Dhillon (6-3, OVR 468)*

vs.

(2) Christian Priest (7-2, OVR 495) NldKaI4.jpgAOP9il0.jpg

Many claimed this to be the “true” main event, with the Blackfield/Rodriguez one being a post-show dark match. However The League does not do post-show dark matches.  Blackfield got the nod because his and Diego’s combined OVR, plus the Gamma Division boost, put it 2 points ahead of this one when it came time to determine match order. But enough behind the curtain speak…

This was another Match of the Night contender, and it could be argued that it was solely because of the well-timed interference of Pastor Abe Richards. Dhillon was in firm control for the opening four minutes of the bout, and it wasn’t until Richards distracted him from a strong gut buster that Dhillon lost control of the flow of the match.  Priest struggled to fight back, but fight back he did, even being the first man in the match to attempt a finisher. However, his attempt as passing Judgment on Dhillon would go for naught, while Dhillon would manage to land an Empire Bomb on the first attempt. The resulting cover netted three, and Dhillon completes the season sweep, giving him the all-important second promotion spot out of Delta for the moment!

Monty Dhillon (7-3) def. Christian Priest (7-3) via Pinfall (Empire Bomb) in 13:16.  Rating: ***

Changes for Monty Dhillon:  OVR + 5.37, XP + 526.90, minor damage to head

Changes for Christian Priest:  OVR + 0.74, XP + 105.38, moderate damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

9wxABJw.jpg (3) Diego Rodriguez (5-4, OVR 456)

vs.

(1) Brian Blackfield (8-1, OVR 502)* RdUenQh.jpg

Main event time. Rodriguez was one of those wrestlers who on paper, Blackfield had no hard counter for. After all, one cannot adrenaline rush their way out of a submission hold. This was surprisingly even throughout, as Rodriguez did not back down from The Juggernaut and gave as good as he got. The first flaw in Blackfield’s armor came when Rodriguez hit his Prelude to Dissonance, a double backbreaker that seemed to stun Blackfield for a moment. A minute later, instead of going for the stretch muffler, Rodriguez instead applied the heel hook in the center of the ring. To his credit, Blackfield tried to power out of it, to will his way to an escape, but there was simply too much pain to endure. Less than a foot away from the ropes, Blackfield finally had to tap, and Rodriguez pulls off a major upset to end week ten, and shows why this match was the main event after all, rating be damned!

Diego Rodriguez (6-4) def. Brian Blackfield (8-2) via Submission (Discordant Melody) in 13:54.  Rating: **

Changes for Diego Rodriguez:  OVR + 4.19, XP + 559.67, no notable damage

Changes for Brian Blackfield:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.92, minor damage to head

I’m giving a heads up now. As long as the weather forecast doesn’t worsen, the show will be posted on Sunday this week.

Reason? Driving back to my childhood home on Saturday morning to spread my father’s ashes per his last requests in January, and get some much-needed closure on the first twenty years of my life…and maybe lay some of my personal ghosts to rest too.

I say this not to look for sympathy or condolences—those who know me off this site know just what I endured—but simply to give y’all notice that Week Eleven is being posted a day late provided inclement weather doesn’t barge in for Saturday.

This has nothing to do with the last reason The League got delayed; still no word on what that whole scenario will end up entailing in the end.

My predictions for week eleven will go up tomorrow evening before I start running matches.
