- Let's try this again lol. This is gonna be more of a summary based diary. I was a small child at this time, but my earliest pro-wrestling memory was Hogan slamming Bundy in the cage at WrestleMania 2, and heading into the Golden Age of '87, this should be extremely fun for me to work with long-term. I'm already a few shows in, and things are running really smooth.

- I'm playing as Vince McMahon in owner mode, as I felt it just made the most sense for the time-period. My goal with the roster is to obviously go through a nice overhaul, but being it'd be so simple to massively over-hire with so much talent out there, I've made a promise to myself to only bring people in who I have a vision/plan for down the stretch. Otherwise, I'll end up like the latter days of WCW, or worse case -- Tony Khan! 🤣

- I don't have an elaborate backstory or anything, but on the very first PrimeTime show (I decided to ditch Tuesday Night Titans, for as entertaining as it was, it'd be hard to replicate correctly in dynasty terms with it basically being a Vince McMahon talk show), on-screen WWF President, Jack Tunney is gonna lay out his state of the union address, giving a little briefing of what my immediate outlook is here.

- My only really big PPV is WrestleMania. Outside of that, I've got a bunch of Saturday Night's Main Events, and I'll also be running special northeast shows once a month or so, much like they used to do here around this time. These will feature bigger matches as well. I've also got a 90-minute A-show (PrimeTime Wrestling), one 60-minute B-show (SuperStars Of Wrestling), and another 30-minute B-show (Wrestling Challenge). I may add SummerSlam, and probably for certain Survivor Series later in the year, but there will be no Royal Rumble until at least '87.

- Big thanks to jhd1 for his Wrestling Timelines: 1986 mod, which I'm using. And of course, a big thanks as well to anyone and everyone who decided to open and check out this thread! PrimeTime preview incoming.

The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff Vs. The British Bulldogs

S.D. "Special Delivery" Jones Vs. Hercules Hernandez

"Terrible" Terry Funk Vs. Pedro Morales

"The Rock" Don Muraco Vs. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat

Big John Studd and "The Walking Condominium" King Kong Bundy Vs. "The Eighth Wonder Of The World" Andre The Giant and "The Incredible" Hulk Hogan

[ Bonus Question: Who will be the new member of The Heenan Family? ________ ]   +3pts

- Plus, WWF President Jack Tunney's state of the union address, which he promises will consist of multiple major announcements!

- In addition, PrimeTime co-host, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan has vowed to reveal a brand new addition to The Heenan Family!

- We'll also be hearing from "Macho Man" Randy Savage, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, and much, much more!

- For the record: we're gonna do 1pt per correct call, and 2pts per main event/title match. Bonus questions will be specified as given. This one will run through WrestleMania 2, with the prize being a pretty big one. I haven't decided exactly what it's gonna be as of yet, but do have a few good ideas. Good luck, all!

If I may offer a suggestion when you get around to signing people in 87, substitute ultimate warrior for Sting. You'll have a longer running employee and champion with less backstage problems. Or if you still want warrior then at least hire Sting as well to form the blade runners.

The Blade Runners on the big stage could be pretty awesome, but don’t think Warrior is available yet. That being said, I’ve got a couple big surprises in the immediate future that I’m hoping ya’ll will enjoy!

The immediate future was what I was talking about. By 1987 warrior and Sting will have debuted for wwf and jcp respectively, i'm saying it be a good idea to snatch up the Stinger when the time comes. And while your at it, might as well sign Rick Steiner and Dr death steve Williams too. Having the varsity club along for the ride could pay off big down the line sense this will mean you can also get Scott Steiner later and form the Steiner Brothers and Dr death might not have been properly utilized in the states but he was big in Japan and might work as an Intercontinental champion with a long reign.

But if your looking for people to sign right now there's 2 teams to look at, the road warriors and the fabulous freebirds.

Monday, January 1986 - Week One
[Denver, Colorado]

Broadcast: USA Network
Hosts: Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan

Pre-Show:

- The Hart Foundation def. Barry O and George Skaaland in 6:23 when Bret Hart pinned George Skaaland, following the Hart Attack. In terms of in-ring work, Bret Hart was head and shoulders above everyone else. (47)

Barry O was really off his game.
Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart showed excellent chemistry teaming together.
Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart got a tag team specialist bonus.
Jim Neidhart and Jimmy Hart have excellent chemistry together.
Bret Hart looked good out there.

- The Junkyard Dog def. Matt Bourne in 8:50 by pinfall with a Powerslam. (59)

The Junkyard Dog was really off his game.

Televised Broadcast:

Jack Tunney state of the union address. The WWF President starts off by wishing everyone a happy new year, before going on about how the World Wrestling Federation take great pride in their worldwide fanbase, and are always looking to give back in the absolute best manner possible, so therefore from here on out, they feel it's their duty provide you with top-tier main event quality matches right here on PrimeTime Wrestling, each and every week, starting right here tonight, when in our main event -- we'll be seeing the team of Big John Studd and King Kong Bundy square off against 'The Eighth Wonder Of The World' Andre The Giant and World Wrestling Federation Champion, 'The Incredible' Hulk Hogan! Furthermore, we here at World Wrestling Federation, have gone on and sent the finest scouting team we could've possibly assembled on an international tour in order to find, and bring in the finest talent this industry has to offer, in an attempt to take this company even to new heights! And lastly, he's proud to announce the unveiling of a brand new championship: the World Wrestling Federation Television Title!

hXOyj7a_d.jpg?maxwidth=520&shape=thumb&fidelity=high

He proceeds to inform us that this title will be defended on television once per week, and there'll be a 16-man tournament to crown the first ever WWF World Television Champion, with Mr. Monsoon and Mr. Heenan revealing the official bracket a little later on this evening. Tunney then thanks everyone once again, and tells them to enjoy tonight's broadcast. (71)

Studio: Monsoon and Heenan welcome us, talk a bit about all these major happenings, then direct us to our opening contest. But first, a word from The British Bulldogs and their manager, Captain Lou Albano. (60)

The Bulldogs and Captain Lou cut a pre-taped promo, claiming that this is their year--the year they're going straight to the top! And the road to the World Tag Team Titles starts right here and now, when they steamroll through Sheik and Volkoff. (61)

- The British Bulldogs def. The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff in 10:21 when Davey Boy pinned Nikolai with a Running Powerslam. Corporal Kirchner came charging down to ringside during Volkoff's Russian National Anthem singing, waiving old glory, and staying put in the corner of The Bulldogs as extra insurance that 'Classy' Freddie Blassie would stay in check - and the moment Freddie did try involved, he was indeed neutralized, leading to Davey sealing the deal for his team. (63)

The Iron Sheik seemed off his game.
Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid got a tag team specialist bonus.

** The Dynamite Kid was visibly upset after the match because The Iron Sheik almost injured him with a botched move. **

Studio: Gorilla and Bobby talk about The Brain's upcoming new client reveal, to which he vows will be an earth-shattering third addition, and is most certainly the only man in the World Wrestling Federation who matches the sheer power of Big John Studd and King Kong Bundy. (50)

In-Ring: Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan reveals his new client - 'The Mighty' Hercules Hernandez! (51)

- Hercules Hernandez def. SD Jones in 5:22 by submission with a Full Nelson. A dominant outing here for the newest member of The Heenan Family. (40)

This match cooled the crowd a little.

We cut to a pre-taped promo from 'The Macho Man', where he tells Miss Elizabeth she's gonna be sitting this one out for safety reasons, before forewarning George 'The Animal' Steele - this coming Saturday, on Saturday Night's Main Event, he's gonna lay that big, hairy bozo to rest once and for all! (71)

Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth have great chemistry.

Recap: Terry Funk uses his iron and brands The Hulkster! (74)

Terry Funk promo from the Double Cross Ranch. He calmly pets his horse while talking about Saturday Night's Main Event, in just five short days, eerily reminding Hogan; the last thing on god's green earth him and his title ever wanna see is a big ol' Texan who's middle aged and crazy. And he can get his confirmation on that from his good buddy Pedro *clears throat* - "Sorry. Whatever's LEFT of your good buddy Pedro!" (69)

Studio: Monsoon and Heenan talk the Funk/Hogan saga. (73)

- Terry Funk def. Pedro Morales in 7:41 by pinfall with a Piledriver. Morales had Funk seemingly on the verge of defeat, before 'The Mouth Of The South' jumped on the apron, distracted both Pedro and the official, then tossed Terry the megaphone, in which he used as an equalizer to help put the former WWF Heavyweight Champion away. After the match, a swarm of security stormed ringside to ensure Funk wouldn't use the dreaded branding iron on his fallen opponent. (79)

Studio: WWF Tv Title Tournament graphic. Gorilla and Bobby discuss -- Monsoon specifically points out that he's surprised to see 'The Hitman' in there, being he's primarily a tag team guy, to which Heenan responds, asking why wouldn't he be, he’s 'The Excellence Of Execution'. - then Gorilla reminds him that only one of his three men are in this tournament, citing that Studd and Bundy are nowhere to be found, leaving 'The Brian' scratching his head and questioning this decision, as we cut to commercial. (59)

jNdmPVi.jpg

Recap: Muraco and Fuji hang Steamboat over the ropes with his karate belt! JYD and Tito make the save. (72)

- Ricky Steamboat def. Don Muraco in 12:47 by countout. This entertaining, hard-hitting match came to a close when the battle waged to the outside, with Muraco gaining the advantage. He held 'The Dragon' from behind, while Mr. Fuji attempted to throw salt in his eyes - but Steamboat ducked, and had the presence of mind to roll into the ring just before the count of ten, leaving the temporarily blinded 'Magnificent One' and 'The Devious One' in a war of words. (71)

Don Muraco and Mr. Fuji have absolutely zero chemistry together.

On SuperStars: Adrian Adonis stops by Piper's Pit. Plus, The Killer Bees and 'Macho Man' Randy Savage in action! (61)

Next Week on PrimeTime: Six-Man action. Piper, Orton and Muraco take on The Hillbillies! (52)

Piper, Orton, and Muraco cut a wild pre-taped promo aimed at The Hillbillies. (57)

Studio: Monsoon and Heenan hype our colossal main event! (68)

'Mean' Gene gets a pre-match word with Andre and The Hulkster. The two behemoths seem ready for war, as Hogan claims the big man here told him that Bobby 'The WEASEAL' Heenan has been trying to court him into switching sides and joining The Heenan Family, before reminding the world that there's a bond between The Giant and 'The Incredible' Hulk Hogan which could never, EVER be broken, dude! Following a few menacing words from Andre, and a howling muscle-flex from the World Heavyweight Champion, they're off to stage right, as Okerlund kicks it over to Gorilla Monsoon and 'The Living Legend' Bruno Sammartino in the announcer's booth! (71)

Andre The Giant benefitted from being the flavour of the month.
Hulk Hogan benefitted from being the flavour of the month.

- Andre The Giant and Hulk Hogan def. Big John Studd and King Kong Bundy in 11:48 when Hogan pinned Studd, following a Big Leg Drop. As expected, a total slugfest here that come to a close, as all hell broke loose, the official lost all control, with Bundy and Andre duking it out up the aisleway, The Hulkster managed to catch his second wind in the ring. He hulked up, pointed, hit the triple punch/big boot combo, then proceeded to bodyslam his longtime foe to a roaring ovation, then dropped the big atomic leg bomb! The referee just barely hit the three count, before 'The Walking Condominium' came crashing down on the back of Hogan's neck with a devastating elbow drop! Following a low blow that put The Giant down to one knee and thriving in pain on the floor, he began clobbering and taking it to the Champion! Bobby was visually irate, shouting to everyone at ringside that Studd was NOT the legal man! (66)

The match suffered because there was not enough selling shown.
Big John Studd and Bobby Heenan are an awkward pairing, they just have no chemistry whatsoever.

Post-Match: 'Terrible' Terry Funk joins the fray, and Big John eventually makes it to his feet, leaving Hart and Hennan directing the 3-on-2 assault! Amidst the mayhem, the bell continues to ring repeatedly, until the credits roll - leading straight into a Saturday Night's Main promo. (69)

SNME hype promo - with McMahon's aggressive voice reminding us to tune in this coming Saturday Night on NBC! (71)

Overall Rating: 62.
Notes: This show lost us popularity in 11 regions. The general feeling is that we don't have enough interesting storylines going on.

Final Thoughts: Was overall happy with the flow of this show and feel it kicked off the new year/got the ball rolling pretty well, but slightly disappointed in the main event rating. Understandable that it wasn't exactly a coalescence of the greatest technical workers, but this match on weekly television at this point in time would have been nothing short of gargantuan lol. Also, Muraco and Fuji having zero chemistry might just be the single biggest line of hogwash this game has ever fed me, but we shall proceed and make due. And Sheik— wtf you doing bro? Guess I should just be glad he wasn’t wasted as well. 🤣

I have some good signings and cool surprises incoming, so it’s safe to say you can expect a nice little shakeup in the near future. Thanks to all for reading, and predicting if you did. My next two posts should be the official Saturday Night's Main event card, where the Tv Title Tourney will officially be kicking off, and a quick writeup for B-show SuperStars results.

Saturday, January 1986 - Week One

Prediction Key:

WWF TV Title Tournament, Round One:
"The Rock" Don Muraco Vs. Hillbilly Jim

WWF TV Title Tournament, Round One:
Moondog Spot Vs. "JYD" The Junk Yard Dog

George "The Animal" Steele Vs. "Macho Man" Randy Savage

WWF World Heavyweight Championship:
"Terrible" Terry Funk Vs. "The Incredible" Hulk Hogan (c)

[ Bonus Question: Who will be the brand new superstar that's sure to make a sudden impact? ________ ]   +6pts

- Plus, "Mean" Gene Okerlund gets an exclusive interview with WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion, Tito Santana!

- In addition, a special hype video revealing a brand new WWF Superstar, who's CERTAIN to make a sudden impact on arrival!

- We'll also be hearing from multiple Tv Title Tournament contenders - and much, much more!

- In case anyone may have forgotten (or just flat out were not alive LOL), the old Saturday Night's Main Event shows around during this era only ran for one hour. My plan is to try and stay as true as possible to the time, then make the necessary adjustments as needed. Best of luck to those who choose to predict!

Prediction Standings:

Lord Byron: 8
jhd1: 7
Bigelow Cartwheel: 6
Dawn: 6
Mattywood: 5

- Sidenote: in regards to SNME, it'll be 2pts per win for every match on the card. And here's a bonus question hint (being there's like a hundred thousand people it could be) — the superstar who's debuting in the near future is NOT someone who was with the WWF at any point during its Golden Age era!

My picks:  "The Rock" Don Muraco, "JYD" The Junk Yard Dog, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, and "The Incredible" Hulk Hogan...

The superstar debuting is either Sting or Stan Hansen, I'm guessing (I ruled out Ric Flair and Lex Luger, since they both joined towards the end of the Golden Era)...

Also, if I'm not mistaken, I seem to remember SNME being 90 minutes when it was on NBC, then went down to 1 hour when it moved to FOX for all of two episodes in '92. So 90 minutes should give you breathing room while also staying true to the era if you choose to go that route.

Saturday, January 1986 - Week One
[Huntsville, Alabama]

Broadcast: ITV, Syndication, Syndication Canada
Hosts: Vince McMahon and Jesse "The Body" Ventura

Pre-Show:

- Jim Powers and Paul Roma def. Les Thornton and Rene Goulet in 4:47 when Powers pinned Thornton, following a Powerslam. (10)

Les Thornton and Rene Goulet don't work well as a team, their timing is all over the place.

- George Steele and WWF Intercontinental Champion, Tito Santana def. WWF World Tag Team Champions, The Dream Team in a non-title match, in 11:34 by disqualification when Johnny V got involved. (62)

Brutus Beefcake seemed off his game.
The Dream Team got a tag team specialist bonus.
Greg Valentine and Johnny V are an awkward pairing, they just have no chemistry whatsoever
.

Televised Broadcast:

- Lanny Poffo def. Terry Gibbs in 5:19 by pinfall with a Top-Rope Moonsault. (30)

Terry Gibbs seemed off his game.
This match was a poor way to start the show and took away from the crowd's initial enthusiasm.
This match cooled the crowd a little.

Event Center: Mean Gene runs down the Tv Title Tournament brackets. (60)

Paul Orndorff cuts a pre-taped promo. [aimed at his first round opponent, 'Cowboy' Bob Orton]. (74)

The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff cut a pre-taped promo. [aimed at their respective first round opponents, Corporal Kirchner and 'The Living Legend' Bruno Sammartino]. Okerlund then follows up by informing us that these four will also be squaring off in a big-time tag team encounter, this coming Monday on PrimeTime Wrestling! (55)

- Ivan Putski def. Mike Sharpe in 8:18 with the Polish Hammer. (48)

Recap: 'The Brain' reveals Hercules Hernandez as his new client -- who then proceeded to dominate SD Jones, putting him away with a Full Nelson. (49)

Hercules cuts a pre-taped promo. [aimed at his first round opponent, 'Mr. USA' Tony Atlas]. (55)

- Judy Martin def. Candace Pardue in 4:40 with a fast roll up. (8)

The crowd were turned off by having a match outside of the pre-show between workers they don't have any investment in.
This match brought the crowd's mood down.

Recap: Andre and Hogan emerge victorious on PrimeTime, but get beat down by Studd, Bundy and Funk, post-match. (68)

The Hart Foundation cut a pre-taped promo. [aimed at Bret's first round opponent, Morales and The Killer Bees--who they claim are nothing more than an absolute laughing stock, and have yet to set foot in the ring with any real competition yet, here in the World Wrestling Federation]. (55)

- The Killer Bees def. George Wells and Steve Lombardi in 5:41 when Blair pinned Lombardi, following a Double Dropkick from both Bees. (40)

The Killer Bees got a tag team specialist bonus.

Piper's Pit: 'The Mouth Of The South' introduces his client, who comes out looking a bit more feminine than usual, with colorful bows in his now bleached out blonde hair, make up, and pink wrestling trunks. He tells 'The Hot Rod', and the rest of the world - this is indeed who he truly is: 'Adorable' Adrian Adonis! He then goes on to present Piper with his old biker leather jacket, stating there's no one out there he'd rather gift it to. Roddy's ecstatic, and says Adrian is wonderful before thanking him very much, as Adonis walks off blowing him a kiss. Ventura says he's proud of Adonis, cause it takes a real man to dig deep and find his true identity, whatever it may be - while McMahon just flat refers to the entire segment as bizarre, before awkwardly sending us off to a commercial break.

Roddy Piper came across well.
This angle got the crowd interested again.

- Randy Savage def. Cousin Luke in 3:27 by pinfall with a Flying Elbow Drop. (45)

Randy Savage looked excellent out there.
This match cooled the crowd a little.

** Cousin Luke sustained a Hand Contusion. **

SNME hype promo - catch all the action tonight on NBC! (74)

Final Thoughts: Knew the women's match wasn't gonna do too well, but an 8?! C'mon man. Lmao - I'll keep at it, but not gonna lie, we may be throwing in the towel real soon 😬😆.  That, and Powers/Roma being so green were my two biggest takeaways. Otherwise, just a simple advancement B-Show here.

I should clarify. 90 minutes was with commercials included.

EDIT: Something I thought about when seeing these awkward managerial pairings. You could always pair the worker with someone else in a pre-show match or angle, & if you land on something golden, then you can go that route. Or if you wanted to stay true to reality, you could always remove the manager from the worker, but then when  booking them in matches, use the "At ringside" road agent note to have that manager at ringside. I hope I'm not coming off as someone telling you how to book or anything, just throwing ideas out there.

Yup, and the game don't take commercials into consideration. I have another coming in March, maybe I'll bump it up by then. We'll see.

And thanks for the tip, man. I didn't even think of the "at ringside" ordeal for bad manager chemistry honestly, even though I've used it plenty of times before in other situations lol. This should def help me with the Fuji/Muraco and Studd/Heenan pairings. 😎👍

Funny enough, in my head canon, I treat a minute or two of some matches & angles as part of a commercial break. So I need to book a six minute angle segment if I want to max out the rating for it to build up the storyline I have going? Fine, four minutes of that interview/promo segment is the actual content itself, and two minutes is for commercials. Problem solved. 😋
