WCCW Tournament - Top 4 transfer Round 1 #1 David Von Erich VS #16 Frank Dusek - 5:20 C- Brainbuster #8 One Man Gang VS #9 The Missing Link - 25:30 B- The Claw #6 The Greak Kabuki VS #11 Mike Von Erich - 14:50 C Mandible Claw #4 Kerry Von Erich VS #13 Magic Dragon - 14:30 D Ground Inverted Sleeper #3 Terry Gordy VS #14 Sweet Brown Sugar - 21:00 B- Japanese Self Stranglehold #5 Kevin Von Erich VS #12 Brian Adias - 12:00 C - Von Erich Scissor Lock #7 Iceman Parsons VS #10 Buddy Roberts - 15:10 B- Running Powerslam #2 Michael Hayes VS #15 John Tatum - Double Arm DDT Through Table Round 2 #1 David Von Erich VS #9 The Missing Link - 12:10 F Iron Claw #6 The Greak Kabuki VS #13 Magic Dragon - 10:30 F Japanese Self Stranglehold #3 Terry Gordy VS #5 Kevin Von Erich - 23:20 D Double Arm DDT #7 Iceman Parsons VS #2 Michael Hayes - 14:00 F Figure Four Round 3 #1 David Von Erich VS #6 The Greak Kabuki - 16:40 D Von Erich Claw #3 Terry Gordy VS #2 Michael Hayes - 19:50 C- Elevated Hammerlock Final #1 David Von Erich VS #3 Terry Gordy - Piledriver through Table WCCW Champion and guaranteed a top 32 spot - David Von Erich. Also transferring are Terry Gordy, The Great Kabuki, and Michael Hayes. Thoughts: The first round didn't have any bad matches at all. Then the second round stunk. Couldn't believe Magic Dragon upset Kerry in the opening round - I figured he'd be in the top 4. The final match between David Von Erich and Gordy was pretty good but David dominated the entire contest.

Love how the Von Erich fury came out in David's win vs. Gordy. :) A Piledriver through the table sounds about right. And I enjoyed the AWA section of the tourny. Unless Verne was entered, who else of the qualifiers could have met in the finals? Bockwinkel vs. Robinson is a super match-up, as evidenced by the A rating it received. If it was not going to be Bockwinkel, I'm glad that Robinson won it. Now is time for Bock to turn it up. He is still me favorite for the entire ball of wax. Go Greg, Go! I really don't care if Greg gets squashed into the pavement in the next round. In my opinion, his beating Hogan is the highlight of the entire tournament so far. Poor Rocco, though. He put on the most entertaining matches of the tournament and he is booted out for his troubles. Curse you Chic Cullen! :) Great job on this. It has been very entertaining reading so far.

Georgia Championship Wrestling - Top 4 transfer to King of Kings Round 1 #1 Tommy Rich VS #16 Bruno Sammartino Jr. - 10:30 C+ Figure Four #8 Ronnie Garvin VS #9 Ole Anderson - 26:30 B+ Low Blow with Cradle #6 Jake Roberts VS #11 Arn Anderson - 16:40 F Piledriver #4 Mr. Wrestling II VS #13 Thunderbolt Patterson - 23:20 C+ Cradle Suplex #3 Larry Zbyszko VS #14 Les Thorton - 18:40 C Double Knee Backbreaker #5 The Spoiler VS #12 Road Warrior Hawk - 28:00 B Abdominal Claw #7 Paul Orndorff VS #10 Road Warrior Animal - 19:00 D Over Shoulder Backbreaker #2 Buzz Sawyer VS #15 Brett Wayne - 11:00 F Brass Knuckle Punch Round 2 #1 Tommy Rich VS #9 Ole Anderson - 22:50 D Figure Four #6 Jake Roberts VS #4 Mr. Wrestling II - 26:40 C+ Brass Knuckle Punch #14 Les Thorton VS #5 The Spoiler - 22:40 B Step Over Leg Lock #10 Road Warrior Animal VS #2 Buzz Sawyer - 23:20 C Piledriver Round 3 #1 Tommy Rich VS #6 Jake Roberts - 23:50 C+ Figure Four #14 Les Thorton VS #10 Road Warrior Animal - 18:00 C- Double Knee Backbreaker Final #1 Tommy Rich VS #14 Les Thorton - 23:40 C+ Piledriver Winner and guaranteed a top 32 spot - "Wildfire" Tommy Rich. Also transferring are Les Thorton, Jake Roberts, and Road Warrior Animal Thoughts - A great tournament on paper and turned out to be decent. A surprising twist with Thorton being a giant killer and taking out some great competitors. Garvin and Ole Anderson put on an old school classic in the first round beating the crap out of one another.

Next up: WWF - Top 4 advance Round 1 #1 Bob Backlund VS #16 Rene Goulet #8 The Iron Shiek VS #9 Pedro Morales #6 Afa VS #11 Tony Atlas #4 Sgt. Slaughter VS #13 Ivan Putski #3 Andre the Giant VS #14 SD Jones #5 Jimmy Snuka VS #12 Nikolai Volkoff #7 Sika VS #10 Tito Santana #2 Don Muraco VS #15 Tony Garea Thoughts - I see some potential great second round matches. Will the Iron Shiek take on Backlund and upset him in round two? Will he even make it by Pedro? A second round match between Andre and Snuka could be very interesting as could a matchup with Muraco and Santana.

Also transferring are Tony Atlas, Don Muraco, and Bob Backlund. Thoughts - An interesting tournament but no surprise that Andre walks away the winner. Some decent matches - nothing earth shattering. Atlas had Andre on the ropes in the final and got two near falls to nearly steal the entire thing.

Up next.... Florida - Top 4 advance Round 1 #1 Dusty Rhodes VS #16 Mike Davis #8 Bobby Duncam VS #9 Barry Windham #6 Ron Bass VS #11 Angelo Mosca #4 Superstar Billy Graham VS #13 Black Bart #3 The Purple Haze VS #14 B Brian Blair #5 Kevin Sullivan VS #12 Mike Rotundo #7 Maya Singh VS #10 Mike Graham #2 Blackjack Mulligan VS #15 Scott McGhee Thoughts - Not the best 16 top to bottom but there should be some good stuff mixed in there. The first rounder with Sullivan and Rotundo - two future Varsity Club members - could steal the show.

Also transferring are Dusty Rhodes, Maya Singh, and Angelo Mosca. Thoughts - Was hoping Barry Windham would show signs of the future greatness but he was taken down by Duncam in the opening round. All 3 of Angelo Mosca's matches were very entertaining and he and Rhodes brought the house down with an A* classic in round 3. The final match had Lewin dominate Rhodes and finally take him out just a little over 20 minutes in.

Up next.... Flair, if he gets Jack Brisco in round 2 better watch out as should race if he gets Wahoo.

Also transferring are Wahoo McDaniel, Bob Orton Jr, and Roddy Piper. Thoughts - Well, MACW shows exactly why it was the hotbed of wrestling at the time with so many great matches and upsets. Top to bottom it was stacked but nobody thought Nelson Royal would beat The Nature Boy in the opening round. Also, Brisco taking the entire thing was a bit of a shock. Actually, the 4 that transfer were all a bit of a shock to me. Steamboat shows he is the man by giving us 2 A* matches before he departed. His match with Slater was one of the best matches of the entire preliminaries. Wow again at the four that transfer from MACW. Last tournament coming up - the Mid South clash.

Mid South - Top 4 transfer to the King of Kings Round 1 #1 Butch Reed VS #16 Blade Runner Sting - 10:10 E Swinging Full Nelson #8 King Kong Bundy VS #9 Terry Taylor - 10:00 F Bundy Splash #6 Magnum TA VS #12 Steve Williams - 11:20 F Figure Four #4 Kamala VS #13 Tim Horner - 9:00 F Kamala Splash #3 Ted Dibiase VS #14 Rick Steiner - 5:40 F Million Dollar Dream #5 Jim Duggan VS #12 Crusher Darsow - 25:20 A Knockout Punch #7 Jim Garvin VS #10 Chris Adams - 17:10 C- Double Arm DDT #2 Junkyard Dog VS #15 Blade Runner Rock - 7:10 F Piledriver Round 2 #1 Butch Reed VS #8 King Kong Bundy - 23:50 D Piledriver #6 Magnum TA VS #4 Kamala - 33:00 A* Belly to Belly Suplex #3 Ted Dibiase VS #5 Jim Duggan - 27:40 B Million Dollar Dream #7 Jim Garvin VS #2 Junkyard Dog - 18:00 E Big Thump Round 3 #1 Butch Reed VS #6 Magnum TA - 20:30 C+ Gutwrench Powerbomb #3 Ted Dibiase VS #2 Junkyard Dog - 24:00 C+ Chain Wrapped Punch Final #1 Butch Reed VS #2 Junkyard Dog - 28:20 D Big Thump Winner and guaranteed a top 32 spot - Junkyard Dog. Also transferring are Butch Reed, Ted Dibiase, and Magnum TA. Thoughts - Only two upsets in the entire tournament. Magnum beating Kamala and JYD over Reed in the final. Pretty entertaining stuff throughout with some interesting matchups. Magnum and Kamala stole the Mid South prelim with an A* match in round two. JYD barely squeaked by Dibiase but didn't have a big problem with Reed in the final.

Magnum TA - Mid South These are the guys that have earned their way into the tournament through winning the right to be there. I'm giving TWO more guys the chance to win their right to make it to the tournament with two "dream" tournaments of the guys that were upset or didn't make it for one reason or another. These will be two 16 men tournaments with the winner of each earning two precious slots but neither will be guaranteed a top 32 spot. Then, the readers of this diary over the next two days have the chance to cast their votes for 3 men and the top 3 all will also make it into the King of Kings. So, after I have the two "dream" tournaments seeded I'll post them. I'm randomly letting my computer scramble the wrestlers I pick out so no particular seedings - that way I won't have to try to play favorites. They are lucky to even get another chance at this point so I don't feel sorry for anyone.

Tourney 1 - Winner only advances. Randomly generated matchups set this tournament. Round 1 Kevin Sullivan VS Ricky Steamboat - 26:10 C High Cross Body Marc Rocco VS Hulk Hogan - 27:20 B - Piledriver Adrian Adonis VS Canek - 23:20 D Goodnight Irene Sleeper Kamala VS Bret Hart - 16:40 E Kamala Splash Mil Mascaras VS Sgt. Slaughter - 23:40 C- La Ringuina Randy Savage VS Jimmy Snuka - 14:30 C- Tongan Death Grip Dick Murdoch VS Harley Race - 22:30 C+ Giant Bodyslam Abdullah the Butcher VS Ken Patera - 24:20 C+ Sudanese Meat Cleaver Round 2 Ricky Steamboat VS Hulk Hogan - 26:30 A* Big Bear Hug Adrian Adonis VS Kamala - 29:40 A* Brass Knuckle Punch Mil Mascaras VS Jimmy Snuka - 22:00 E Ground Crucifix Cradle Harley Race VS Abdullah the Butcher - 36:50 A* Sudanese Meat Cleaver Round 3 Hulk Hogan VS Adrian Adonis - 22:30 B+ Goodnight Irene Mil Mascaras VS Abdullah the Butcher - 18:50 C Flying Double Chest Chop Final Adrian Adonis VS Mil Mascaras - 22:40 F High Cross Body Winner and guaranteed a wildcard slot in the King of Kings - Mil Mascaras. Thoughts - Well, this produced some very interesting matchups. Good matches as well - the first round saw a doozy with Rollerball nearly getting the best of Hogan. Round two saw some classics as there were three A* matches in that round alone. The matchup between Hogan and Adonis in round 3 was fun to watch as Adrian finally put Hogan to sleep after getting several near falls and he kicked out of the Big Legdrop. Mascaras sawed through the competition in the tournament and had no memorable matches. He won - but the fans hated his work. The final match was horrific as he killed Adonis dead and was at high energy when he did pin him.

Tourney 2 - Winner only advances. This tournament was randomly seeded. Round 1 Larry Zbyszko VS Buzz Sawyer - 27:40 E Piledriver Terry Funk VS The Sheik - 22:20 D Cradle Piledriver Lizmark VS Dynamite Kid - 23:40 C- Missed Diving Headbutt Tiger Mask VS Dino Bravo - 19:00 F Crossface Chickenwing Kerry Von Erich VS Tully Blanchard - 25:20 B- Iron Claw Gran Hamada VS Ric Flair - 14:00 D Figure Four Ray Rougeau VS Billy Jack - 22:30 B Swinging Full Nelson Carlos Colon VS Blackjack Mulligan - 27:00 B- Figure Four Leglock Round 2 Buzz Sawyer VS Terry Funk - 24:30 B- Funk Spinning Toe Hold Lizmark VS Tiger Mask - 20:30 C- Powerbomb Kerry Von Erich VS Ric Flair - 12:10 F Piledriver Billy Jack VS Carlos Colon - 23:40 C+ Figure Four Leglock Round 3 Terry Funk VS Lizmark - 21:10 E Fisherman's Suplex Ric Flair VS Carlos Colon - 31:10 A Cradle Suplex Final Lizmark VS Carlos Colon - 26:50 D Cavernaria Clutch Winner of tournament two and guaranteed a wildcard slot - Lizmark. Thoughts - Holy crap, two randomly generated tournaments and both of them had the winner coming from the EMLL. That is one tough bunch of hombres I take it. Lizmark pulls off a big upset here by taking down some great wrestlers on his way to the King of Kings. He beat Dynamite Kid, Tiger Mask, Terry Funk, and Carlos Colon. Talk about running a hard guantlet. Flair looked to be on a mission destroying his first two opponents before having the match of the tournament with Colon and losing. Will Flair get one of the three reader votes or will he be sitting at home watching the King of Kings tournament like so many others?

THE KING OF KINGS TOURNAMENT I'll lay out the plan here. The voting can take place until Wednesday, noon Eastern Standard Time. After that I will tally the votes and place three more men into the King of Kings. I have already decided I will not allow any of the three men to be one of the top 32 seeds so I can try to seed the top 32 and post it tomorrow. Here's how the tournament will work - just like the NCAA Basketball tournaments in the USA. There will be 4 "regions" that I will seed them by. I will try my best to be impartial and figure out the best way to do this. The four regions will be as follows: North America North North America South Europe Far East This doesn't mean that everyone in the Far East tournaments will be guys from Japan. It just means there's more of a likelihood there will be a few Japanese guys in there. North America North should see a couple of Canadians in the thing - stuff like that.

3 names really jump out for wildcards to me. Flair, Race, and Hogan. I know Hulk wouldn't be huge until starting the next year, but I still give him the knod ahead of the likes of Von Erich, Steamboat, etc. So... Harley Race Ric Flair Hulk Hogan

15 hours before the voting is finalized. Right now here's how it looks: Flair virtually a lock with 4 votes Hogan, Race, and Funk all have two votes each. Steamboat and Rollerball have one vote and are grasping for their last breath. Tie needs to be broken because we've got three guys going for the last two spots - who gets in? In case the tie is not broken then I'll have to figure out some fair strategy to pick who gets in.

Ok with the voting ending I had to be forced into a decision I did not want to make. Since there was a deadlock with 3 guys trying to get the last 2 spots I had to make a judgment call. I am trying to look at this objectively. Race - A veteran of the sport and many time world champion. The tournament wouldn't be complete without Race involved so I give one of the two nods to him. Now, the other. Hogan is coming along and WILL be the biggest superstar the sport has ever seen in a couple of years. Right now he's still chasing the AWA World Title though and hasn't done much in the wrestling world besides do the crossover Rocky III. If this were Dream Tournament 1985 scenario it would be a no brainer. Funk is a former NWA World Champion at this point and a legend in Japan. I HAVE to give the nod to Funk in this situation because it's 1983 and not 1984 or 1985. So, rounding out the field for the King of Kings - the three wild cards are: Ric Flair Harley Race Terry Funk
