My second reason is that Austin has said in shoot interviews that the heel turn was actually his own idea,</p><p> because he felt he was getting a little stale after being the same badass face for roughly five years. Flair is very solemn, as he talks about what World Championship Wrestling means to him; it meant being the best, bringing your best, each and every night he walked down that aisle, bleeding, sweating, and paying the price! Right now, he doesn’t know anything about who owns WCW right now, but tonight, he’s going to celebrate the future by going back to the past – he wants his greatest opponent, Sting, to walk that aisle with him, one more time, tonight, just like they did on the very first episode of Nitro! Flair is nearly in tears as he says that stepping into the ring will cause him to lose his CEO powers, but this is the Night of Champions, a celebration of the past, present, and future of WCW, and there’s no bigger champion than Ric Flair! He is the cocky, confident “Nature Boy” again by now, as he says that he hopes the new owner is watching tonight, because he’s going to show them what World Championship Wrestling and Ric Flair are all about! The crowd are absolutely nuclear hot after this roughly ten minute speech that got the show off to a very strong start – the only flaw was Scott Hudson not selling the emotion very well on color. (A*)<p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> Our first match this evening is for the World Tag Team championships, but first Lance Storm, Shawn Stasiak, and Major Gunns grace the microphone. Storm says that he made a promise last Wednesday that on the final Thunder, he would be what everyone in WCW was talking about – and he did it. Now tonight, The World vow to remain the final WCW Tag Team champions of the Turner phase of Nitro, but first they want the Canadian National Anthem to play. Tylene may be mostly worthless in an in-ring or even speaking role, but having her hang off of Lance’s arm does always seem to help him in his segments. ©</p><p> </p><p> As the anthem is playing, Tony says that there is some commotion in the backstage area – it looks like Chuck Palumbo has been picked off by Mike Awesome and Elix Skipper, and the beating ends with an Awesome Bomb through a table! They are looking to do more damage, but Sid Vicious appears to chase them away. However, the damage is done, and we go to a commercial break with the Tag Team match in doubt! (B-)</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/ZUzW6fC.jpg?1</span></div><p></p><p> </p><p> That doubt is lessened only slightly when Mark Jindrak appears at the side of Sean O’Haire, but the two members of The World zero in on the leg of Jindrak, which Stasiak had done severe damage to with a single leg crab back before Greed. The crowd are successfully calmed by the four of them as they work a nice, standard tag team formula matchup. O’Haire must hold back his rage as he watches Storm and Stasiak weaken his partner, until Stasiak gets a little too confident (which is impressive for someone who literally calls himself “perfect”) by coming off the middle rope, but Jindrak gets a foot up and it catches Shawn in his supposedly perfect jaw! Both men make a tag, with Sean coming in as your standard white meat house of fire with a series of clotheslines and superkicks for his opponents! Major Gunns tries to get involved, throwing the inexperienced O’Haire off by forcing him to pause his assault, which is when Storm hits O’Haire with a low blow before locking in the Canadian Maple Leaf! It looks as though The World are en route to a successful title defense, when someone else hits the ring – Booker T! As Jindrak and Stasiak brawling outside the ring has Mark Johnson’s attention elsewhere, Booker hits Storm with a big scissors kick, breaking the hold and leaving Storm prone on the mat! O’Haire heads to the top rope, tagging Jindrak along the way, and he drops the Seanton Bomb! Sean then superkicks Stasiak off the apron as Jindrak makes the cover, and after a three count we have brand new World Tag Team champions at 6:05!</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> We head backstage after that big title change to see “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner along with “The Dog-Faced Gremlin” Rick Steiner in their locker room. Rick is trying to keep his brother working out, but Scott is even more raging than usual. He rages on about Ric Flair, who is trying to use Sting to take away his main event on the final Nitro, says that if Goldberg ever comes down to the ring to interrupt him again then he’ll slap the beard off his face, and tells both Kevin Nash and Sid that if they don’t back down then they’ll end up in a hospital bed like “Cubic Zerconiah’ Page” is! Scott struggled when off-script tonight, but it was entertaining in the insanity. Shane says that since no one has taken the Hardcore championship from him yet, what’s next for him is to try becoming a double champion, maybe the Hardcore United States champion? Maybe the Hardcore World champion? <em>“The sky is the limit for “The Franchise” as WCW enters… what, it’s fourth new era now? Fifth? Who’s keeping score of these things?”</em> Regardless, he tells “The Cat” to come out here and bring out whoever is getting their ass Franchised tonight!</p><p> </p><p> Ernest Miller is not in a dancing or talking mood tonight, but he says that he has someone who has beaten Shane’s ass before and should do it again tonight, but as “The Cat” turns to bring the man out, Kanyon attacks him! Kanyon and Miller brawl with one another as Doug Dillinger and WCW Security rush the scene to separate the two men! The wild brawl between the two (two people the crowd actually care about, for a change) got the crowd buzzing and Tony seemed to have fun calling the action, but it’s no Dusty Rhodes desiring plunder or anything. After 3:55, Shane uses the chain from his boot to nail the General and score the pinfall to retain his title.</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> Crowbar is backstage, and it appears that he is on his knees in front of Daffney. He asks her why she cost him the Hardcore title on Thunder, asking her aren’t they a team? Aren’t they friends? Haven’t they been through a lot? Daffney almost completely ignores and disregards him as she stares blankly into a mirror. As Crowbar keeps trying to ask her things, a smile forms on her face, and a loud laugh follows as it appears blood starts pouring down the mirror! Daffney screams in joy, pulling on her hair, as the lights in the room go out! When they come back on, Daffney is gone and the mirror is stained in blood… </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> … and the mirror shows Vampiro in the room along with Crowbar! Crowbar looks around, but Vampiro isn’t actually there! Vampiro explains that WCW is a sinful beast, and he is going to punish all those who perpetuated those sins with the help of like-minded individuals. Daffney enters the mirror, standing on Vampiro’s side. Crowbar puts his hands against the mirror, but he cannot reach them. Vampiro tells Crowbar that perhaps one day he will understand, but for now he is of no use to either of them. He and Daffney leave the frame as Crowbar slaps the mirror. The blood on it smudges, and the lights of the room flicker before turning red – and then blood pours out of the ceiling, coating Crowbar with the liquid! He is covered in blood, and he screams in frustration as the area appears to be filling with the liquid! Crowbar’s acting was very underwhelming, but he was merely a pawn in the segment – the message is clear that if WCW continues, it will have to deal with Vampiro and Daffney! ©</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> The Problem Solvers come down to the ring as commentary talk about how strange the previous segment was. Simon Diamond takes the microphone and says that Simon has a problem. Diamond explains that for years, the driving force of WCW has been some meathead named Goldberg, but with his self-help training he feels Disqo should be able to take the legend of Goldberg and reduce it to a passing thought in the annals of history! CW looks to be getting better at his enforcer gimmick, as he looks way more menacing this week… but then Goldberg starts coming to the ring. ©</p><p> </p><p> Disqo actually puts up a fight in this match, showing that he is a pretty strong mat wrestler by taking Goldberg down with a headlock. However, that’s about as far as he gets, as Goldberg basically sends Disqo into orbit off a back body drop before planting him with the Spear and Jackhammer, getting the three count at 2:10 while staring down Simon and CW to make sure they don’t disturb the fall. The crowd were red hot for Goldberg and Tony took joy in watching Disqo get destroyed, but the best part of this match was Goldberg’s performance, which stood out as being good. Sting says that if Flair wants another go-around with “The Stinger” then he’ll always be willing to provide; <em>“It’s showtime, folks!”</em> The segment was on the short side, but Sting improvised well during it and the fans were happy to see him on-screen for the first time since November. These two cruiserweights go all out at one another and get the crowd buzzing by fighting around the railing on the outside of the ring, with Mysterio giving Chavo a hurricanrana that sends him over the rail and into the pool encircling the ring – and follows it with a no hands dive over the rail onto Chavo! Hudson corpses a little on commentary, laughing a little too lively when Chavo plays up the water by slipping and sliding around ringside when he gets out of the water. When the match gets back into the ring, Guerrero tries a pin with his feet on the ropes, but this time he gets caught in the act by Charles Robinson! As he argues with Charles, Mysterio gets a hurricanrana and hooks the legs, and he gets the three count! The crowd are absolutely buzzing after this very exciting match. At 11:23, arguably the most popular man of the WCW Cruiserweight division wins his sixth championship reign on the finale of Monday Nitro! (B-)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> The man who is challenging for the World’s championship tonight joins us at the top of the entrance way, “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash. Kevin says that it’s been a while since he took on a raging monster, but that he would beat this one just like he did his own earlier. Oh…kay? After that joke gets crickets, it is apparent that Nash is doing very poor improvising, but he gets it back just enough to say that he’s dedicating this match to DDP and to “Scott in Tokyo” saying that tonight he’s taking home the gold, boys! (B)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> The Harris Boys lead out “The Chosen One” Jeff Jarrett, who says that he doesn’t even care who he’s facing tonight, he just knows Ric Flair has stacked the deck against him like always. In a more “mechanical” note, we played up that AJ was definitively a face, because the twenty or so people who watched him in Wildside as a heel recently may have been confused. His “turn” was a complete success. ©</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/JBl4mtV.jpg?1</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> Anyone who had doubts about AJ Styles taking on Jeff Jarrett – including Jarrett himself – were washed away as Styles took the fight right to the veteran, using a high risk offense that put the champion on the backfoot almost immediately. Jeff had to slow things down by going into Memphis heel mode; ducking out of the ring and then breaking the count, getting purposely tied into the ropes so that Scott James had to keep Styles back, stalling for time whenever possible. Where the champion really took the advantage was when he had Styles chase him around the ring, then when Jeff slid back into the ring he got Scott James’s attention, so the Harris Brothers grabbed Styles and hurled him into the barricade! From there it is all about “The Chosen One” as he takes over the rookie with his usual offensive moves. AJ continues to come back each time though, wowing the audience by bouncing off the ropes and backflipping over Jarrett before hitting an inverted DDT, scoring a two count for that. When Jarrett finds himself dazed off a blind charge, Styles flips backwards and blasts Jeff in the face with a big kick! Anytime AJ seems in control it does become apparent to the trained eye that he isn’t ready for a slow build matchup. Styles is unable to put away “The Chosen One” each time, but he has an ace up his sleeve. He spins an arm wringer out of The Stroke and plants Jeff with a DDT before climbing to the top rope. AJ takes off, spinning in the air to hit a corkscrew senton bomb! He goes for the cover, but Heavy D pulls Styles out of the ring to break the count! James leaves the ring and starts telling D and Ron to leave the ring, but that’s when Styles springboards off the top rope to hit both of the Harris Brothers with a flying forearm smash! But the move seems to be all that Styles had left, as he lays on the aisle with half his body dangling in the water. He tries to get back up and head for the ring, but by the time he makes it, he’s been counted out at 18:34. The crowd give a very respectful applause for AJ’s efforts, as he and Jarrett did a great job making this bout a spectacle and getting the crowd buzzing. It looks like Styles may be one to watch in the future in WCW! (C+)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> Tony and Scott throw us to a still-frame highlight reel from Greed, which shows clips from the triple threat World Heavyweight title match. After the match is over, we see Ric Flair come to the ring and announce that on the series finale of Nitro, there would be a steel cage match pitting Scott Steiner against Kevin Nash. (B)</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i.imgur.com/vVQclRt.jpg?1</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> The steel cage match is a brutal affair as Kevin Nash and Scott Steiner tear into one another with no holds barred between the two. Well, very few “holds” between them because, as expected, the match opens with a lot of punching, kicking, forearm and knee smashes. They actually seem to gel together in the ring very well, their styles meshing into some pretty good chemistry. Steiner is the first to get the steel in his face, as Kevin reverses an irish whip that jams Scott into the steel, and Kevin follows up with a running boot that crushes Scott’s head between a steel force and an immovable boot! There’s a trickle of blood, and we don’t care because we are off this channel at the end of the night anyways. Nash hits a series of elbows into Steiner in the corner before choking him with his boot. But the next time Nash does the choke, Steiner makes use of the no disqualifications to break the choke by kicking “Big Sexy” in his “little sexy” before driving Nash’s face into the cage! From there, the champion takes over with a spinning belly to belly suplex. He gets a near-fall off a standing elbow drop, before doing push-ups. “The man with the largest arms in the world” shows those arms with a rear chinlock as everyone starts to take note that there’s not much selling going on in this match. Nash gets to his feet with Steiner on his back and backs him into the steel cage to break the hold, and then hits snake eyes for a near fall. Kevin ducks a Steinerline and comes back with a sidewalk slam for another near fall, and the straps come down! Nash goes for the Jackknife, but Steiner blocks it with a series of punches. Shockingly, “Big Poppa Pump” turns the Jackknife Powerbomb into the Frankensteiner! Scott rolls Nash over and gets the pinfall, surprising everyone with a clean title defense at 17:16. They did a great job getting the crowd red hot in this match, though it really should have had someone better on color commentary. (B)</p><p> </p><p> Finally successful, “Big Poppa Pump” is handed his championship by Midajah and he holds it overhead in celebration. He kicks “dust” onto Nash as he leaves the ring, allowing the staff to come tear down the cage for what became our new main event, Ric Flair against Sting! They deliver a German suplex/Steinerline combination, which nearly takes Flair out of his boots! Rey Mysterio Jr with Tygress on his arm talks about how WCW Nitro gave him a huge worldwide fanbase and he looks forward to seeing what comes next. Madusa is masterful as she talks about how she helped make Nitro must-see television in 1996, and how she is going to always continue proving that WCW is for more than just the men to fight. Paul Orndorff and Arn Anderson enjoy being candid as they say they wrestled under Turner for years, and while they still have a place on the show, they are very happy to see what the next generation has in store for their old eyes. Buff Bagwell is the final one, improvising well as he says he has come to worldwide popularity in WCW, and he will do anything to keep his “home town” afloat, proclaiming that what comes next for WCW will be just as exciting to him as it will be to the rest of the fans. <p>Yeah, I think this will work out well for Jamie. He's now in a position to definitely be seen weekly or at least bi-weekly on Nitro with some big name stars like Corino, Bischoff, and Austin now that they seem to have his attention.</p><p> </p><p> Maybe SuperBrawl was hampered by being "one of those nights"? Does TEW even do that? I remember EWR used to have a random RNG that caused everyone to just have an off night.</p>

<p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">From the desk of Eric Bischoff:</span></span></p><p> Nitro saw two different tournaments going on backstage as Mike Tenay got some of the older guys playing poker while Chuck Palumbo had some of the younger crew into a tournament of Backstage Assault on his Playstation. During the show, Ric Flair was overheard saying that Kwee Wee probably isn’t worth keeping around because his ring psychology just isn’t good enough. During the battle royal, Sid was really off his game, he was botching all over the place. It wasn’t his fault, but a part of it led to Lex Luger getting an injury to his nose as it was turned upwards in ways that the human nose shouldn’t be. It’s no big deal, because he’s going to be healed up by the end of the week, but especially because I wasn’t really planning on using him for the final Nitro anyways. </p><p> </p><p> On Thunder – which, by the way, I am ecstatic to finally be rid of, given Ted Turner basically forced it on me in 1998 just because he wanted more ‘rasslin for TBS – Booker T did require the main event to be structured so he was protected well so that he wouldn’t be upset at losing to Lance. Afterwards, Storm saw just how far his stock had been rising as of late and requested a pay raise. I likely wouldn’t have given him much of it a month ago, but hey, now that Page has given us nearly five million dollars and won’t be getting his three hundred grand a month, I have some more cash to play with. He wanted $5,390 more a month, but I only gave him 75% of that, giving him $4,042 more a month than before. During the show, Scott Steiner bragged out that Kaz Hayashi should be written off because “Ain’t no fans gonna ever get behind some Jappy kid doing flips ‘n **** like him”.</p><p> </p><p> Alex Wright and Vampiro also seem to have moved toward Nevada, getting closer to where WCW will be setting up base in April. But I have a problem; at this point, I still don’t know what I’m going to do about television. This is why it took me two weeks from the previous show until this one; it's in part because even though I'm not technically writing the WWF as the main focus of this diary, I didn't like how WrestleMania turned out the first time I booked it. So I went back to it, and now I've finally moved on yes, but it took me probably four times that I played WM X-7, thought about it for the next day, and then pulled a game recovery on it so I could go back and redo the show again. Not because I do a ton of "save scum" work, but I just kept having nagging problems that I would overlook during it that began bothering me after the fact. It was a little frustrating that I couldn't allow my obsessiveness rest, but I liked the real life X-7 so much that a less than "mostly perfect" show just didn't feel right to leave it at.</p>

Booker says that at SuperBrawl he got screwed by the time limit, but that won’t happen to him again, so he wants the so-called “new owner” to give him Scott Steiner right away! But Booker doesn’t get either of the Steiners, instead he is joined by the man who eliminated him during the battle royal this past Monday, Lance Storm! Major Gunns stands at his side as Storm tells Booker that nobody cares about Booker’s chase for the title anymore; it is about to be a new era in World Championship Wrestling, and that era will be when Lance Storm finally wins the final title in WCW, the World championship! Booker tells Storm that he snuck up on him to eliminate him on Monday, but when they meet tonight it’ll be man to man, face to face, save the drama for yo’ mama! Storm warns him that he has a promise for Booker tonight: at the end of this evening, the final WCW Thunder, the thing people will remember is that Lance Storm stood tall! Lance was a bit of a disappointment at first when fans were hoping to see Scott Steiner, but this segment definitely got the show off to a strong start. (A)<p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> “Mean” Gene brings “The Nature Boss” Ric Flair to the stage, and Flair is definitely animated this evening. He talks about how much WCW means to him and to all the people of Atlanta, and how this Monday’s episode of Nitro from Club La Vela will be the end of an era but also the chance for a new beginning. He runs down the card that he has prepared for the Night of Champions, which of course includes the steel cage match between Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash, but also two surprise contenders for Jeff Jarrett’s United States title and Shane Douglas’s Hardcore championship. Also, Lance Storm and Shawn Stasiak defend their newly won Tag Team titles against the Natural Born Thrillers in a rematch from Greed, and Chavo Guerrero Jr. faces off against one of the men who made the Cruiserweight title mean so much all those years on Nitro, Rey Mysterio Jr.! Gene says that this will be a night to remember for years to come, and he can’t wait to be a part of it! Okerlund adds that we are also to hear from the new owner of WCW? Flair agrees, and says that even as CEO, he doesn’t know what that’s about! Ric adds that he will have a special challenge of his own as well, so make sure to tune into the Night of Champions! Gene pumps up the crowd more, masterfully working the crowd as Flair improvises well by staying on point. Tune into Nitro! Big Vito and Johnny the Bull answer that question right away, as Vito says that fighting is just something families do sometimes, but eventually they get past it; their partner is Vito’s brother, Reno! (D)</p><p> </p><p> The bout is a very brisk brawl, which is both hampered and helped by the commentary team who can’t decide whether Tony should talk over Mike or if Mike and Scott should gel perfectly together. Disqo doesn’t quite fit right in this type of brawling match, but everyone has a few moments to hit a few weapon shots on someone of the other team before CW ducks a wild spinning wheel kick from Reno before drilling him with a spinebuster to pick up the win at 3:48. (D)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> A pre-taped promo airs featuring “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash, as he talks about how Scott Steiner will have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no chance in heaven or Earth to escape the soon-to-be new WCW World champion, Kevin Nash! The promo was kept short, but got all the proper points across. (B)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> The Jung Dragons collide, but they barely have time to do much other than have a few aerial stalemates before Scott Steiner comes to the ring and beats both of them down with his lead pipe at 3:43. The crowd were turned off somewhat by a match between two heels and didn’t care for not having a finish, but the split of the Dragons means no more bad chemistry between Kaz and Leia Meow, while Yang will continue having the benefit of his good chemistry with Meow. (D)</p><p> </p><p> “Big Poppa Pump” gets a microphone after that show of force, and begins a show of confidence. He talks about how all last year, he moved up the ranks of WCW until finally he got his chance at the World title, and he took that too! He has held WCW under his thumb like it was a bug under his foot! He has scared Ric Flair into retirement, sent Sting out of the company, and nobody’s seen “Kim’s blond bitch” since he beat him at Greed! He talks about how Booker T isn’t worth his time and how Nash and Sid need to just turn away before they get into a fight that they can’t win! All of the commentators seemed pretty weak in this segment, while Goldberg came out of this looking excellent. The crowd are absolutely on fire now, really wanting to see these two go at it! (A)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> Kanyon comes to the ring, saying that he’s not going to be overlooked in WCW ever again now that a new era is on its way; but soon, everyone will be saying it’s the era of Kanyon, and everyone will know that nobody is better than Kanyon! “The Cat” and Ms. Jones interrupt, with Ernest Miller saying that the only one who thinks Kanyon is better than anyone is his mama, and somebody better call her up because he’s about to whip Kanyon’s ass! (C-)</p><p> </p><p> Kanyon certainly proves his words, outwrestling Miller for the majority of their match. They calm the crowd down here well. Kanyon is about to put this away, when Ms. Jones catches his eye by throwing Miller’s red shoe into the ring. He goes over to yell at her, telling her to stay out of this, when “The Cat” puts the dancing shoe on and scores with the Feliner kick! Miller lands on top and gets the pinfall at 3:53, maybe he <em>is</em> better than Kanyon!</p><p> </p><p> Kanyon is incensed! He can’t believe he lost, and he attacks Miller from behind as soon as he can! Kanyon throws “The Cat” into the guardrail, and he ready to do more to him when Ms. Jones steps in the way, trying to shield Ernest from more damage. But that was her worst mistake, as Kanyon grabs her and hits her with a Flatliner out on the hard concrete floor! Miller shoves Kanyon, trying to get to him as Kanyon bails, laughing! “The Cat” holds an unconscious Ms. Jones as EMTs rush the scene! (D+)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> From that horrific scene, we go backstage where Booker T is lacing up his boots. Our final Thunder main event is next! (B-)</p><p> </p><p> Booker T and Lance Storm do battle with Booker gaining an early advantage with his explosive offense, but Storm finds an opening when he is able to catch Booker charging with a clothesline, injuring his shoulder against the turnbuckle. We note that the two really don’t click in the ring at about this point, but the match carries on. Lance may be known for his Canadian Maple Leaf crab submission, but he is a much more gifted wrestler than that, and he zeroes in on Booker’s arm as if his name was Anderson instead of Storm. The crowd are buzzing to try and bring Booker back into the bout, and he fights back up off the ground by catching Storm coming off the ropes with a Harlem Sidekick! Booker hits the axe kick and starts to Spinarooni back to his feet, but it’s obvious his shoulder is damaged. Undeterred, Booker goes for the Book End, but Storm is able to take Booker down into an armbar, and Storm mounts Booker’s back while applying pressure! Booker repeatedly tries to get to the ropes, but Storm is able to keep him at bay – finally the damage already done to the arm is too much, and Booker T is forced to tap out! No one in the audience likes it, but at 17:46, Lance Storm’s promise comes true as he is the last thing being talked about on the finale of WCW Thunder! <p>Jim Duggan with the Dragons is... definitely a change. Overall a pretty solid go-home Nitro, as all the important stories continue on to a potentially epic conclusion at Bash at the Beach. I personally never cared for a "WWF TV title", but that's probably just me. I'm all cool with you bringing in the Euro belt. Hart-ywood Blonds - I just can't really see them being blacked out, I think this is where the egos will collide in the Kliq and they make their big split. Sid/Ahmed/Buldog/Scott Steiner - Scott is going to make the difference, as we start on a run toward Steiner vs. Steiner for WrestleMania. Jericho/Mero/Bart/Candido - Nice win for the white meat babyfaces. Flock Nation of Domination - Oh man, is Rocky going to turn on everyone INCLUDING his father to join the Nation and become The Rock?! Jerry Lawler - Really, aside from commentary, there's nothing you can do with an aging Lawler. I'm feeling like Justin may just disappear for awhile. Kane - Their big first encounter being at Survivor Series instead of WrestleMania makes me figure we are going with Kane winning here and then Taker getting revenge at Mania.

Jeff Jarrett - Don't really see Dustin being the new great hope for stopping the Chosen Ones. Kevin Nash - Nice win to keep Nash on top of things. Totally Buff - No title change here. Maybe if it were Rey and Kidman, but not Konnan. Kanyon Jung Dragons - Just like TFC, you too can give Dragons a chance! AJ Styles Shane Douglas - So this is kinda funny, I recently heard a podcast with Tony Schiavone where he was talking about Greed. Tony said that he watched Greed again this many years later, and he barely remembered the show; in particular, "Who the F was Jason Jett?" He said that he definitely remembered AJ Styles, because AJ seemed special, but given EZ just more or less disappeared afterwards, no matter how talented or not he may have found him to be at the time, Tony said he honestly had no clue who he was. I found it amusing.

I think I'm going to give it to the K-Nections. He says that next week is the final Nitro on TNT, closing an era for the company, but they’re closing it with a huge event as all WCW titles will be on the line! This brings out “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner and the World champion isn’t very happy. He orders Ric to cancel that cage match, because he’s defended his title and now it’s time for him to work his peaks, settle back with his freaks, and watch this company die. Flair refuses, telling Steiner that he doesn’t give a crap about his freaks, because the number one thing on his mind should be toughening up his tough hide for when Kevin Nash throws him into that steel cage! Steiner says that if Flair doesn’t cancel the match, Scott will cancel Flair! But before he can enter the ring and do anything, the wolf howl brings out “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash! Nash has a bandage around his head as he saunters out of the back, a wound from the lead pipe shot he took to the head last night. Nash tells Steiner that he better hold that belt tight for the next week, because Kevin Nash will be the new champion as we enter the next era of World Championship Wrestling! Tony and Scott were pretty weak on commentary, but the three guys in the main segment did great improvising in various levels. This definitely got the show off to a strong start and got the crowd hotter, with Nash in particular coming off looking good. (A+)<p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> Out of the back comes Lance Storm and Major Gunns, with Shawn Stasiak, Mike Awesome, and Elix Skipper following along. Storm does the talking, as he says if he can be serious for a moment, as of last night, Team Canada is dead! Scott Hudson does a horrible job selling his surprise at this, but Storm goes on to say that it’s because they have evolved into a higher form. No longer are they only representing Canada, they obviously need to represent a bigger problem; all of America’s oppression of talent. He says that the United States looks down on those who can rise better than their heroes, and that is why they have banded together to encompass something greater – that’s why there is no more Team Canada, there is The World! And The World will always be better than the United States! The boos finally change when the Natural Born Thrillers come to the aisle, with O’Haire telling The World that while they may have pulled one over on them at Greed, they need to savor that victory as much as they can. Because next week, those belts are coming right back around their waists! They got the crowd hotter very well, the fans have really taken to the Thrillers now, and it sounds like they can’t wait to see them face off against The World next week! ©</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> In a fatal four way cruiserweight match, Elix Skipper, Jamie Knoble, Air Paris, and Yang have a very fast paced match. In the end Yang gets distracted on the outside when Leia Meow and Kaz Hayashi argue on the outside, when Kaz tells her that he quits! As Kaz walks off, Yang watches on, losing all focus on the match. Knoble gets thrown from the ring from a charge, dazing him, and that leaves Elix a chance to hit the Play of the Day on Air Paris to pick up the victory at 6:02. There’s been a battle royal announced for tonight’s main event where the winner will receive a future WCW title match, and Goldberg wants in on that. Flair apologizes, saying that while he feels bad for Goldberg, he can’t do anything to give him a title shot. Instead, he’s giving Goldberg another match to continue his streak tonight, which will place him one step closer to that shot. Flair urges Goldberg <em>“All I ask is please, don’t kill the kid.”</em> Flair does some great improvising here and looked good, but Goldberg is not well improvising although his performance was good. Goldberg and the fans may not like this decision, but he’s going to keep trying to get back the World’s championship! They reveal that while it may not be getting the same fanfare as the series finale of Nitro, Thunder is ending this week as well. It is going to be a show featuring an hour of new content, but also a special hour of The Best of Thunder. Then next Monday will be the final Nitro on TNT, as we bid farewell to Time Warner, who had broadcast pro wrestling since 1971, but will no longer be doing so. They again admit that they have no idea where the company is going from here, but hope that you will tune into WCW.com to find out news for the future of World Championship Wrestling. However, the cell phone that Disqo had been bringing to ringside with him to get Simon’s advice certainly surprised Johnny as it connected with his head, leading to C.W.’s spinebuster. Diamond makes the cover and at 4:38 gets their debut victory over one of the tougher teams currently in WCW. Stasiak pins him with one finger at 4:09 just to prove that he can, as commentary give him a lot of shade for not earning his win. (C-)</p><p> </p><p> Stasiak stays in the ring and gets a microphone, saying that it feels great to be a part of a stable that can appreciate that he’s one of the elite professional wrestlers of the future, as opposed to a bunch of snot-nosed punks who thought they could escape the Power Plant. He calls O’Haire and Palumbo “a couple juiced up freaks” which brings them out – but it’s a bad move, as the rest of The World swarms them once they have left the curtain! The two of them are left laying in the aisle by the time security is able to stop this. Will they be able to make it to their title rematch next Monday? But now, he’s going to make people admit through their pain and anguish that Kanyon is the best! And if they don’t, then it means they need hurt more. Kwee Wee is pretty upset about having missed some time, and he puts on a good show when “Angry Alan” comes out, but despite Paisley cheering him on at ringside, this is never in any doubt. The Flatliner lays Kwee Wee out at 1:51 for the win.</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> Chavo Guerrero Jr. comes down to the ring, and he talks about how it looks like he really was the best member of the Misfits in Action because he easily defeated Lash last night (despite Tony and Scott mentioning that video footage shows he had his feet on the ropes) and Hugh lost his title last night whereas Chavo retained his. An opposing view comes into picture though when General Rection makes his way down to the ring, chasing Chavo out of it. Rection tells Chavo exactly what was spelled out earlier, that he cheated Corporal Cajun, and now, the General is going to have some corporal punishment for his former Lieutenant! (D+)</p><p> </p><p> The crowd are buzzing as General Rection takes on Chavo in an obviously non-title match given the size difference between the two. Guerrero does a good job of playing keep-away from his former commanding officer, but when he tries to hit Hugh with the Cruiserweight title belt, Cajun appears and pulls the belt away! That leads into a big splash in the corner and then the No Laughing Matter to put the former Lieutenant Loco away at 4:18. (C-)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> We go now to a series of rapid fire promos from some of the wrestlers in tonight’s battle royal. It starts with Totally Buff, who say that it’s about time that one of them get some gold for around one of their waists, Madusa adding that one of her team members is definitely getting that title shot… and if they don’t, then maybe she’ll find someone who can. Luger especially comes across well, as he doesn’t like the sound of that. Animal is elsewhere, no longer with Madusa, saying that he’s finished with being known only as “one of the Road Warriors” it’s time for him to become the Animal that he’s named for! Sid Vicious says that he hasn’t gotten a fair title shot since Starrcade, even when he was promised one; and tonight he proves he is still the master and ruler of the world. Rey Mysterio Jr. and Tygress are on next, with Rey talking about how it isn’t all about size and muscles, it’s who can hang on and stay the course longest, and that’ll be him! Mysterio’s performance was fairly poor, he needs something personality-wise that people can latch onto if he’s going to be in bigger circles. Lance Storm and Major Gunns are next, and if Storm can be serious for a moment, he’s held every current title in WCW but one and that means it’s time to stake his claim for the big gold. Major Gunns helps by motioning the title around his waist. Booker T closes the segment by saying that he was one second from being the champion for a fourth time right now, so when he gets the shot promised to the winner of tonight’s battle royal, Scott Steiner or whoever holds the belt needs to remember not to hate the playa, just to hate the game! Tony and Scott talk about the match and make some predictions, but they came off as weak despite the segment getting the crowd hotter for the upcoming main event. (B+)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> “The Franchise” Shane Douglas comes to the ring with the Hardcore title around his waist, saying that he’s getting pretty sick and tired of Ernest Miller just deciding to send him opponent after opponent while he leaves other champions alone. He says that if Miller wants a piece of him, he should just come and get his ass Franchised like everyone else! “The Cat” comes out with Ms. Jones at his side, and he explains why he’s taken to sending opponents after “The Franchise” is because the last thing Miller will stand is some loudmouth out here thinkin’ he can call his own shots! The Cat brings up Douglas inserting Crowbar into matches while he was his protege, saying that’s when he started disliking Douglas, and now he’s going to face a hardcore icon in his own right: Screamin’ Norman Smiley! But instead of Smiley, Crowbar comes out of the back, with Daffney trying to stop him. Crowbar tells The Cat that he wants one final chance, and he’ll rip the hardcore torch out of Shane’s hands. Miller asks Ms. Jones what she thinks, and she tells him that it sounds like “the greatest” idea, with Cat agreeing and turning this into a triple threat match! Shane is pissed about this, but there’s nothing he can do about it! Daffney, no wig or homemade shirt tonight, is telling Crowbar not to do it, but he doesn’t listen as he charges the ring! Douglas really came across well here, and both Jones and Daffney helped their clients during this segment. (C-)</p><p> </p><p> The triple threat Hardcore title match is almost exclusively a fight around ringside. Anything not nailed down gets smashed into someone’s back or forehead, with one funny bit as Daffney screams at Norman and he screams back at her. She spends most of the match telling Crowbar to stop this, because “the man is just writing you out for a little while, you’ll be back to go for a more important title soon!” The end of the match comes at 3:39 when Daffney takes up a stop sign and bashes Crowbar with it, and Douglas drops him with the Franchiser to pick up the win. Daffney walks away from the ring without looking back. (C-)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> A pre-taped segment is shown next with “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash, as he talks about how good it’ll be to get Scott Steiner in a cage on the series finale of Nitro. This is a short segment just to put over next week’s match, with Kevin warning Scott that it’s never a good idea to get in a cage with a big, bad, angry wolf. He says that “This one’s for Dallas and Scott; it’s gonna be sweeter than too sweet.” (B-)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> Back in the Steiner Brothers’ dressing room, Scott is telling his brother Rick that he needs to go in there tonight, take that battle royal, and make it his bitch! He says that once Rick is the next number one contender, not that it’ll matter because ain’t no way ‘the man with the largest arms in the world’ is gonna lose the title, but it’ll mean they dominate the World title scene. He tells Rick that if they do end up facing one another, it’ll be like a night off for them because they’ll just have an honest match and shake hands after it’s over, they’ll have each another’s backs. Scott’s performance was fantastic here, though it needed some better color commentary to actually sell that Scott gives a damn about his brother. As it was, Tony and Scott completely jumped on board that Scott is using Rick to shut out other contenders. (A)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> Young Cassidy O’Reilly is a solid prospect down in NWA: Wildside, but his “big break” on the big stage of Nitro was as a wooden post intended for Goldberg to plow over in just 51 seconds. Goldberg really shone here, and the match calmed the crowd as it was intended to. Tony says that it is set to be a night of champions, with all five WCW titles on the line to see who will lead us into whatever the next phase of World Championship Wrestling will be. Scott adds that this week is also the finale for Thunder on TBS, which will feature an hour of content and an hour of the Best of Thunder. Tony then gets something on his headset telling fans that he’s just gotten word that… we will hear from the new owner of WCW, and they will tell us news regarding the future of WCW! All the more reason to tune in next week, folks! (D-)</p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i.imgur.com/5EQ9iSq.png</span> Tony says that the winner of this ten man battle royal is set to get a World championship match in the immediate future, though we don’t know yet where, when, or against who that will be. The match features Animal, Booker T, Buff Bagwell, Dustin Rhodes, Jeff Jarrett, Lance Storm, Rey Mysterio Jr., Rick Steiner, and Sid Vicious all going at it. Booker personally makes sure to eliminate Rick Steiner, which got a huge pop from the crowd. Jarrett gets eliminated by Mysterio, while Booker back body drops Animal to the outside. Rhodes makes no real impact in the match, and is fairly quietly tossed out by Bagwell. Storm gets huge heel heat by eliminating Booker by surprise, and Luger gets eliminated by Mysterio. Rey puts on a great showing, making it to the final four, but he gets cut off from his speed advantage when Storm dropkicks him in the knee. Buff chucks him out, and he makes a pact with Lance Storm to take on Vicious. But Sid comes back with a big boot to Bagwell that puts him over the top rope and out of the match! Storm does what he can to attack Sid’s legs, hoping to stagger the big man near the ropes. He nearly takes him over, but Sid fights him down with clubbing forearms before grabbing Storm around the waist and hurling him over the top and down to the floor! At 17:58, we have our next World title contender, and next week will we find out who the champion will be on the series finale of Monday Nitro! <p>The problem with the Mamalukes is that they start the 2001 mods always getting negative reaction notes because they aren't very good workers once they're statted out. But I'm a fan of them as well, and I'm really hoping you can keep the push going for them. Kid Kash is another one who seems to get left behind by a lot of games (typically due to his attitude and poor overness at the start of 2001 games, I would imagine) but he is a very talented soon-to-be veteran who can deliver some exciting matches and promos.</p><p> </p><p> The Nasty Boys were an interesting pick up, even if only for one night, nobody sure saw them coming!</p>
