All in all, they brag about last week, how they effortlessly dispatched Kevin Nash and Dustin Rhodes. Madusa rubs oil on Luger’s abs as he poses until the wolf howl screams to interrupt them and “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash comes to the stage! He says that “Big Sexy” is in the house, and he’s ready to kick them out of the house! Nash tells them that last week, they didn’t embarrass him, all they did was piss him off! Nash says that he’s tired of them getting the drop on him, so he wants both of them, right in front of him, this Sunday night at Envy! They laugh him off, saying that if he’s dumb enough to take on a handicap match, then they’ll beat him in it! This got the show off to a great start with a hot crowd, even if Arn Anderson came off a little weak. (A)</p><p> </p><p> It may be a handicap match set up for Envy, but tonight is an eight man tag team match! It will feature Totally Buff, Mike Awesome, and “The Dog-Faced Gremlin” Rick Steiner taking on Kevin Nash, Dustin Rhodes, Sean O’Haire, and Sid Vicious! (C+)</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><hr><details><summary><strong>Billy Kidman vs. “Das Wunderkind” Alex Wright</strong></summary> </p><p> In this match between young stars (given his long tenure in WCW, it can be easy to forget that Alex is only 25, actually a year younger than his opponent tonight), given their positions in the company one would feel Kidman should just steamroll this bout. However, Wright holds his own very well, and he actually scores a pinfall after using a pair of brass knuckles on Kidman. However, during his celebration, Shane Helms comes to the ring and tells Charles Robinson about it, prompting him to reverse the decision and award the bout to Kidman by disqualification! Alex is furious!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Match Time: 3:17</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Notes: Kidman was off his game tonight, but Mike Tenay’s announcing lifted the bout.</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Rating: C+</em></span></p></div><p></p><p><hr></details></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Commentary take us to separate pre-taped interviews from Animal and Sting. Animal says that he is tired of Sting just walking in and out of WCW and being given everything on a silver platter, and he is going to make sure that he knows his place. Animal slightly underperformed here but he got the message across. The sight of Sting gets the crowd hotter, as he responds that Animal was once one of his best friends and he would have gladly just allowed him to go after Scott Steiner if he had just asked, but it looks like he wanted to do things the hard way – now it’s going to be showtime, folks! (B+)</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><hr><details><summary><strong>First Blood</strong></p><p><strong> Kanyon vs. Ernest “The Cat” Miller</strong></summary> </p><p> Tenay and Hudson do a good job of putting over that this is the first stipulation bout on Nitro in the new PPV era, as this first blood match gets underway. Both men do their best to prod and gouge one another, each trying to draw that blood that will win the bout. Neither do so until Vampiro appears, and he has a spike with him. But shockingly, he stabs Kanyon with it! With Kanyon bleeding, Mark Johnson calls for the bell, but everyone is confused by this turn of events.</p><p> </p><p> Ernest Miller looks pretty confused for sure, but he still celebrates his win anyways.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Match Time: 7:34</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Notes: Cat was off his game. Kanyon, still covered in the blood that Vampiro made him bleed, silently nods his head in agreement. Daffney giggles loudly, saying that we moved on to a new pay-per-view so time for a new storyline! Her reactions come off a little over the top, she doesn’t come out of this looking very good. Vampiro’s improvising is masterful tonight as he notes that envy is running strong in the WCW locker room, especially some very interesting things with the Filthy Animals. He also talks about Goldberg, who has so much envy for whoever is holding the World championship that he is willing to sacrifice 176 souls to his legacy. But we will see how strong his commitment is when he faces Kanyon this Sunday at WCW Envy, and by the end of the night we will see who will fall on the sword and accept salvation within the Dark Eden! (C+)</p><p> </p><p> Elsewhere backstage, Gene and Jeremy are with Kevin Nash, Dustin Rhodes, Sid Vicious, and Sean O’Haire. This is basically an old school Survivor Series style promo, where each man gets thirty seconds to cut a brief promo on his enemy on the other side of the match. Gene performs poorly, being so undersized compared to the men around him that we almost lose him in the frame, but Nash comes across well. (B-)</p><p> </p><p> Before his match this evening, “The Chosen One” Jeff Jarrett takes a microphone. He works the crowd well by playing to them about Konnan challenging him for the United States title. He finally says that he will do the match because even in his busy schedule, he can find time to beat down some bald headed slapnut. (C+)</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><hr><details><summary><strong>Non-title: “The Chosen One” Jeff Jarrett vs. Bryan Clarke</strong></summary> </p><p> A very nice match as Jarrett does all the Memphis heel tricks he has to avoid the immense power of Clarke. Bryan catches him and gives Jeff a run for his money, but the Harris Boys get involved to distract Scott James, which leads to a low blow and The Stroke for Jarrett to pick up the victory.</p><p> </p><p> Brian Adams appears to help Clarke fight off the Harris Brothers, and while Jarrett stays in the ring and watches the brawl at ringside, Konnan sneaks into the ring through the crowd and gets to the US champion! After they trade a few punches, “K-Dawg” gets the better of it and locks Jeff in the Tequila Sunrise, getting him to start tapping out frantically! Big Ron and Heavy D finally slide into the ring to protect their investor, but Konnan escapes them by leaving the ring. If that happens again this Sunday, Konnan going to become a two-time United States champion!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Match Time: 4:31</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Notes: Jeff seemed off his game during the match, must be a lot of people saving themselves for Sunday.</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Rating: B- / B-</em></span></p></div><p></p><p><hr></details></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> We cut to pre-taped promo segments from the participants in the Envy match coming up this Sunday. A voice-over tells us that the man who climbs the ladder will win a title match of their choosing but also whatever each man is wagering for the bout. General Rection says that he is wagering his entire Misfits in Action character; Dustin Rhodes is putting up a pair of cowboy boots that his father won the World championship while wearing; Billy Kidman says that if he doesn’t win, then the entire Filthy Animals is over, which makes Tygress start to question him but he ignores her; Lance Storm says that if he doesn’t win, then whoever does win gets the managerial service of Major Gunns, who looks a little worried behind him; Sean O’Haire will give a World Tag Team title shot to whoever wins the match; and Rick Steiner says that he has been given a special stipulation where if he wins, his brother Scott doesn’t have to defend the World title for 90 days. ©</p><p> </p><p> Gene and Jeremy are backstage with The World, where Elix Skipper is bragging again about how he rules The World – but his big talk stops immediately when Lance Storm walks into the room! Storm tells Skipper that he’s been talking a lot more than what he’s been doing with The World in Lance’s absence, but now Storm is back. He turns his attention to the camera, saying that he is all healed back up from the Pride match, and he’s ready to take on the Envy match and win a title match. He grabs Major Gunns around the wrist and pulls her toward the camera, saying that if he falls short, then she belongs to whoever grabs the contract; <em>“But in the end, Tylene will belong to me and me alone, and I am going to be in charge of The World until we take it over. I may not be able to talk about being better because I’m from Calgary, Alberta, Canada anymore, but that doesn’t mean I’m still not the best wrestler in World Championship Wrestling – and that’s all I need.”</em> Elix underperformed but is obviously learning more charisma. Arn came off pretty weak, Gene performed poorly, and Gunns helped Storm here. (C+)</p><p> </p><p> Chris Lovey has a sit-down interview with Booker T and the Natural Born Thrillers. Booker does all of the talking, getting across that despite him winning at Pride against Lance Storm, this isn’t over with The World. Booker says that the Thrillers are going to be the future of pro wrestling just like he was a few years ago, which is why he is going to help them get past whatever Storm throws at them, and once that’s finished he is coming back for Scott Steiner. O’Haire’s presence was good and Lovey looked dreadful, but it fed the storyline well. (B)</p><p> </p><p> Halfway through the show and it’s time for The WCW Panel! Tony, Chris, Gene, Jeremy, and Stevie Ray talk about what’s coming up this Sunday at WCW Envy, urging fans to order the show to see just what the competitors of WCW can do at a bigger event. (D)</p><p> </p><p> The announcers are discussing things going on in WCW when the sirens of “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner blare over the arena. Scott and Rick come out from the back, but don’t enter the ring; instead, they walk to the announcer’s booth. They shove aside Tenay and Hudson and Scott gets into the face of Arn Anderson! He has a microphone and tells “Double A” that he has been looking all over backstage for his <em>“old bastard Brainbird buddy”</em> because he wanted to kick his ass right here tonight, but it looks like he ain’t here – he’s hiding! Anderson backs down slightly, saying that no, Tully Blachard isn’t here, he hadn’t been in the ring since about 1996 so he’s been training for the bout. Rick glares at Arn as Scott tells him that ain’t good enough, he wants to pound some flesh (huh?) or else he ain’t leaving! <em>“I’m the World Heavyweight, and I want to have his ass around his head! I’m the ‘Genetic Freak’, and if he ain’t here to find out, then maybe </em><em><strong>you</strong></em><em> are gonna find out that ‘Big Poppa Pump’ don’t fake it, I break it!”</em> Anderson may be a commentator now, but he still has “The Enforcer” in him, and he stands up to meet Steiner head-on! Scott Hudson comes off really weak here as he tries to calm things down, finally Ric Flair comes to the ring to save Arn (and to save us from Scott’s very poor improvising tonight) by telling Steiner that Arn is not a wrestler, he’s part of the staff, and if Scott or Rick lays a finger on him, they’ll be out of here! Scott tells Ric that he can’t talk to him like this, if he fires him he’ll go to the WWF and then the Steiners will beat him and WCW in the ratings, but Flair tells him that no, they’ll be suspended indefinitely and be stuck under a WCW contract with no pay for the rest of their sad, miserable lives until every wrestling fan forgets that they ever existed! Flair says that he doesn’t like Scott and Tully in a match at all, but he can’t stop that now because they both agreed to it. However, he can stop Scott from laying a hand on any other WCW staff members or fans ever again! Flair comes across well here, throwing his CEO weight around, and Scott comes across well as a bully who eventually smiles and stands down, saying that at Envy on Sunday, Flair and Arn better have an opening at the closest glue factory, because there’s gonna be an old, ugly, dead horse that needs recycling! (B+)</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><hr><details><summary><strong>Screamin’ Norman Smiley vs. Disqo</strong></summary> </p><p> A little comedy bout to give the crowd a breather after Scott Steiner’s antics. It appears she has told them what Kidman is wagering in the Envy match, and they aren’t very happy about him throwing their alliance out like that without talking to them first. Kidman immediately takes it the wrong way, feeling like they think he can’t win, otherwise they wouldn’t mind. He tells them that he is out to win in the name of the Animals, and if he can’t make that sacrifice, then he will see where the chips fall after that. Konnan and Rey look at one another in confusion at his words, as does commentary; Kidman doesn’t tend to talk about sacrificing things, that’s more of a Vampiro type of phrase… (C+)</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><iframe width="220" height="180" src="</p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/embed/M9udAirjw3U?rel=0&controls=0" rel="external nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/embed/M9udAirjw3U?rel=0&controls=0"</a> frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe></div><p></p><p></p><p> The fans come alive as “Invasion” plays over the Hard Rock, and the fireworks reveal Goldberg! He mockingly limps, saying that Mysterio will need to get two good legs under him in order to win a last man standing match, which is why he set it up as that. He tells “Dick Flair” that if he doesn’t like it, then he better get his head out of Scott Steiner’s ass and start paying attention to what’s happening elsewhere in WCW than just his “old, broken down buddies who are going to be broken in half after Sunday,” which draws a glare from Anderson. Douglas brings up beating on AJ Styles and that he’s going to take the X-Division title as proof that “The Franchise” is here to stay, and just like the old, crotchety assholes did to him, he’s going to hold down the young punks so they can’t take his spot. ©</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><iframe width="220" height="180" src="</p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/embed/M9udAirjw3U?rel=0&controls=0" rel="external nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/embed/M9udAirjw3U?rel=0&controls=0"</a> frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe></div><p></p><p></p><p> Speaking of young punks coming to WCW, a new video plays of future WCW star Low-Ki training. He tells Hugh that he has his best interests at heart, because Rection needs the guidance that Simon’s self-help program can offer. He will be watching the Envy match. Diamond also brings up his opponents tonight, Chuck Palumbo and Mark Jindrak. He tells them that perhaps they need some of Simon’s self-help as well, because otherwise they are just dragging behind the rocket on Sean O’Haire; his program is open to them. 2. Jack Swagger The Wyatts Evan Bourne Fandangoo Curtis Axel Dolph Ziggles Calling it "Sheriff" instead of "Commissioner" or "GM" makes me skew towards someone Texas-y. Austin is the popular choice, but just for the hell of it, I'm going to say Shawn Michaels.
  3. Who would have ever guessed Austin vs. Knoble as match of the night? The huge match ratings almost have to be due to your perf>pop product. By now you've pretty much whittled away guys who can't work very well, and now that the roster is full of the young, athletic, fast paced wrestlers (generally speaking) I'm not surprised that every match is a dynamic wet dream of the internet community. It really is a lot like 2003 Ring of Honor now, where you can almost hear the 2003 IWC just going nuts for this stuff. Looking back at my picks, I chose Steiner vs. Goldberg for MOTN, but that's because I'm used to my WCW where that match would have star power driving it. I'll know now not to bank on either of them for the MOTN much again! That is a testament to how you've done such a great job at putting wrestling on the marquee. And after their amazing showing, now aren't you glad that you gave Dragons a chance?
  4. <p>I probably should have banked on Ahmed to win, but it looked like he had issues with Taker to clear up at Summerslam... which is why I had gone with Goldust, who was the only heel who could be free by then to go after the World title. Ah well, it should still be some big matches lined up, can't wait to see where you go with the Harts now especially.</p><p> </p><p> Harts and Jericho - <em>Canadian contingent gets the big win to put them at the top of the map.</em></p><p> Faarooq - <em>Stealing the Heat now too, WCW are definitely screwed! That's pretty much the only good team in their tag division in 97!</em></p><p> Ahmed Johnson - <em>No plunges to be seen here but for sure a victory.</em></p><p> Ken Shamrock</p><p> Hardy Boys</p><p> Rey Mysterio</p><p> </p><p> Sting - <em>One thing I will give Russo, he did always seem like he was trying to book Sting nice and strong. Except he did it by turning him heel on Hogan and then putting him against a midcard stable of Vampiro, Demon, and Muta.</em></p><p> JPL</p><p> DDP</p><p> Mike Awesome</p><p> Chris Benoit</p><p> ??? - <em>Yeah, gotta be the LOD. Hey, now you get to book the Road Warriors while they're happy with you again! See why it's so fun running both companies?</em></p>
  5. Good job with Fall Brawl! Nothing that happened really came as much of a shock, but this is a post-Russo WCW, the last thing you need is random swerves to make the crowd think that's what you're all about again! Sting vs. Jarrett at the next PPV should be really fun, I look forward to seeing what you have in store for us. Scott Steiner Kanyon and Awesome Shane Douglas Chavo Guerrero Kronik AJ Styles Dustin/O'Haire/Palumbo
  6. Scott Steiner - Big Poppa Pump overcomes the odds to retain the title a year after the first time he "won" it. New Age Outlaws - Davey screws his brothers-in-law out of the titles to kickstart a whole new family feud for the Harts... but one that they caused themselves. Candidsnow - This is a fun little story, but it ends with Al regaining Head. Kevin Nash Goldust - Dustin is my pick to win this thing, because he's the only one with nothing better to do. Sid - Raven will probably just lay down on this one. Taker vs. Shawn is the no contest Cactus/Goldust - This is where Shawn will screw Nash, superkicking him out of the tournament. Sid/Raven - If this goes how I'm figuring, then this will be a bye, so Sid moves on to the finals. Nash/Ahmed/Cactus/Goldust - Kingdust! No Contest: Taker vs. Shawn; both are too big to just lay down for the other at a "small" PPV like King of the Ring. I know it's not small, but of the big five, it's definitely the B+ of the world. Tiebreaker: 21:10, long enough to not get a "short match" penalty but there's a lot of matches on this card so you need all you can get.
  7. Davey Richards Legionnaires Corey Graves Sield Christian - It'll only take him ONE MORE MATCH Tyson Kidd and JOHN CENAR

It is great world building, don't get me wrong, but just warning you now, this has my Sorry For The Very Long Post seal stamped on it.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">From the desk of Eric Bischoff:</span></span></p><p> It was a pretty big week in WCW this past week, as Shane McMahon became a stockholder in World Championship Wrestling. This is information that <strong>only</strong> I am privy to; the last thing I need is this news getting out to the rest of the locker room. It would only get overblown, people would be thinking that the McMahons have bought WCW (because it was way too close to actually happening) or would think I sold them out. The truth is, Shane is only a 10% stockholder. Now when you account that I’m the only other shareholder with 90% that doesn’t amount to a lot, but I know how word of mouth and gossip can go. So in April, we saw a loss of $468,770, which is our lowest amount of loss since I bought WCW from Ted Turner. I’m chalking that up to the two event pay-per-views that we put on, The Big Bang and Pride, as well as people tuning in for the new Friday Nitro. Hopefully that novelty won’t wear off very soon, because even with that being our least amount of loss, it was still very close to a $500k loss. But the $12 million loan that Shane lent me has our bank account at the beginning of May at $4,159,163 to the good. I am very hopefully at being able to pay him back quickly, which is why I only asked for enough that should sustain us for an amount of time. It’s troubling, but that’s business, right?</p><p> </p><p> Friday Nitro saw the WCW debut of Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka at the side of his son, Jimmy Jr. We have Jr. propped up to be used as a very wholesome second generational star, which fans seemed to react to with average enthusiasm. But on the other side of the spectrum was “The Superfly” himself, who we treated as a legend. But the crowd did not take to him at all, almost reacting hostile toward the idea of the red carpet we rolled out for Jimmy. This below average turnout for Snuka was only compounded by the fact that when Jimmy Jr.’s match began, we saw that the Snukas have some very bad chemistry as manager and client. Plans will be to keep them together and hope for the best, but something long term is going to have to give or else this may not be the long-term pairing that we may have hoped for. At least Dustin Rhodes seems to be adapting to his character better, which is another one that we had higher hopes for that didn’t pan out very well to begin with.</p><p> </p><p> Kid Kash was a talking point among the wrestlers backstage of Nitro, but it wasn’t for good reasons. Both Jeff Jarrett and Bryan Clarke called him out for being clumsy and unable to connect with fans, saying that they weren’t sure if he was going to be released for hurting someone or just not getting over first. Scott Steiner also left me a message saying that Shawn Stasiak couldn’t sell water to a man dying of thirst and that he shouldn’t be pushed until that’s dealt with. I can’t say I disagree with Shawn not being the best at selling, but for Scott Steiner to call him out for it makes me laugh… not that I’d bring it up to his face, of course.</p><p> </p><p> Kevin Nash has finally finished his regimen of losing some weight, something I had asked him to do a few months ago. He now looks like a skinny big heavyweight, which looks like it should make the girls scream a little louder when he takes his straps down. That he actually did it makes me wonder if he did it because he’s dedicated to doing what I say in WCW, or if he’s going to use it as a driving point to try and nab a WWF contract for he and Scott if he feels I can’t deliver on my promise from February? I can’t think too hard on it, I’ll just assume the former.</p><p> </p><p> An article came to my attention when Bret “Hitman” Hart did an interview for the Calgary Sun recently. Apparently in it, he described himself as “poorly used” in WCW, calling his time with us “really sad”. I was hoping to perhaps get back in contact with Bret about making a return, albeit not an in-ring return, perhaps as some sort of authority figure or manager, but I can’t just ignore his words here. Sure, mistakes may have been made, but he didn’t help himself very much either, so perhaps this potential contract will just have to be routed to someone else if he doesn’t feel we can use him properly.</p><p> </p><p> The Rock was seen this past week on the red carpet for The Mummy Returns. While it pains me to see that one of Vince’s guys is doing so well for himself, I’m begrudgingly glad for Johnson, who is currently out of action filming The Scorpion King. Unfortunately, there’s next to no way we can catch up to the sheer star power that the WWF have over us until Rock makes his return, so all I can do is hope that he would start feeling the “acting bug” more than what he wants to go back to Vince.</p><p> </p><p> On Wednesday, former WCW midcarder Chris Jericho appeared on a national TV show to promote the WWF. I must admit that he did an excellent job representing the company and wrestling in general, in both a charismatic and professional manner. Where was that enthusiasm at when you were working here, Chris?</p><p> </p><p> Another of Vince’s follies was wiped under the mat this past week as well, as the XFL died with a whimper. Reports say that UPN would have continued to carry the games if Vince had dropped a half an hour from SmackDown, but nothing was going to happen to his baby, so the XFL is just another WBF incident all over again. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy, right?</p><p> </p><p> Reports from backstage in the WWF this past week have talked about a lot of injuries being picked up. Test got some chronic upper back pain that is expected to plague him for a few months while wrestling Gangrel in a Raw dark match. At the UK pay-per-view Insurrextion on Saturday night, Bradshaw got a fractured cheekbone while wrestling Eddie Guerrero, Paul Wight fractured his jaw while working against Crash Holly, and William Regal got a chest injury in his match against Billy Gunn. None of them are taking any time off, and all the UK injuries will be healed up in a few days, but it was pretty strange seeing all these guys pick up so many aches and pains at one time. Eddie Guerrero came up with a new catchphrase on SmackDown, something similar to his old WCW “Cheat 2 Win”. It was something about lying, cheating, and stealing, but it seemed to really take off with crowds. Meltzer reported that Bruce Pritchard has said that he thinks Albert is going to be a star and that Paul Wight thinks Scott Taylor is turning into a good worker and is worth getting behind. I guess we will see how Vince falls on both guys, but he’s seemed pretty high on Albert anyways. </p><p> </p><p> Probably the biggest thing that was reported on was that The Undertaker was walking around with a huge smile on his face when he asked for and was given upwards of a whopping $20,000 a month raise! The source who stated this said that Taker still isn’t the most highly paid wrestler on the WWF’s payroll, but this certainly puts him into the top bracket of the company.</p><p> </p><p> Some other rumor site has talked about how a bunch of wrestlers have been seen with changing physiques. Young Jack Evans, after we had Sid squash him, started showing up looking more toned, as well as future European star Jody Fleisch. Greg Valentine looks like he is starting to let himself go, looking more obese than bulky. Charles Robinson and Paul Heyman are also starting to go to more of an average size rather than the small and flabby sizes they respectively were at. Charles is just age catching up to him, the so-called “middle age spread” as he is 36 now. Heyman at 35 seems to be him trying to look a little better for his national TV gig on Raw. Good for him. The site also mentioned that Trish Stratus and BG James were seen working on perfecting new wrestling styles as more entertainers than regular wrestlers like they were previously.</p><p> </p><p> Finally, a slew of wrestlers are said to be retiring within the next few months. Terry Gordy is one of them, as well as Jimmy Golden, who portrayed Bunkhouse Buck in WCW in the mid-90s. Butch Miller, who was given a spot in the WWF’s Gimmick Battle Royal at WrestleMania X-7 to pair up with Luke in the Bushwhackers, is also hanging it up soon. I wish them the best in their future careers, as even if I had the funds to bring any of them into the fold, I wouldn’t have an opening for them anyways.</p><p> </p><p> I turn my attention to WCW Envy, coming up very soon. Almost too soon, because even as I look over my scribbled, jumbled notes, it feels like we forgot to set up a decent card. Even I will admit that this show looks like the junk that we didn’t bother to put on Nitro. The biggest question is do we run with Tully Blanchard in the main event of a pay-per-view in 2001? But the problem is what else <em>can</em> we run with? The only other matches with enough star quality to main event the show is Sting and Animal or Totally Buff and Kevin Nash, and neither of those have been built up as well. At least Scott and Tully have all the build that we gave them in February to play off of, as this will close the chapter on them as we move Scott elsewhere. We are booked into a bit of a corner as I don’t have the time to bring in someone to have a title match against Scott with, nor do I have the time to build up someone else to take that spot. All the other main eventers are off in their own feuds; Sid with Awesome, Booker with The World, and Goldberg solidifying his streak. To be honest, I watched Blanchard in a little training bout, and he isn’t quite as far gone in the ring as I expected. So maybe the best thing I can do is to trust in the roll of big main event matches that Scott Steiner has been giving me, and see what happens.</p><p> </p><p> I just hope he doesn’t mess it up and accidentally break Blanchard in the process.</p>

  13. Team Stinger - The faces need to pick up this win so you can set up the next challenger for Jarrett. Jeff Jarrett - As cool as a Savage run would be (albeit likely a short one) I just can't see it in the cards. Jeff cheats to win and retains. Rey Misterio - Unless you plan on busting him back down to the cruiserweight division, he keeps this train rolling by defending successfully. Totally Buff - In all the teams who could stop them, it won't be this one. Elix Skipper - I doubt you are going to want to run a face vs. face match, and we recently already saw Cash, Chavo, and Disco get shots. That just leaves Moore, Romeo, or Skipper, and I'm calling Elix the best of the three. Y'ALL KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS Kanyon and Awesome - This is a (pardon the pun) awesome tag team, they could definitely go far if they get the chance to shine. 1. 38:24 2. Sting 3. Rick Steiner
  14. Corporate Horsemen - Austin and Steiner aren't gonna coexist at all. Kevin Nash - I suspect he'll make it to the KotR PPV before Shawn screws him out of it so we get HBK vs. Nash at Summerslam. Mr. Perfect - Ahmed vs. Taker is in full go, plus Perfect gives the KotR a damn fine workhorse. Goldust - With Storm out, this is my new dark horse! Cactus Jack - Why not? Billy Gunn I can't really come up with any names that would help WCW because the only real, true way to help them would be a second human player, be it someone else or yourself playing both companies. Anyone you let go of has just as much possibility to be wasted in WCW by the AI as what everyone else has been.

He says that Flair lines them up and “Freakzilla” knocks them down when the title is on the line. He says he was in the process of murdering Sid when some old yellow toothed bastards got in his way. A special Scott Steiner limerick: <em>“While old men like Tully and ‘Naitch’ are at the doctor replacing their hipper, ‘The Big Bad Booty Daddy’ is out giving the ladies the Big Dipper! It’s gonna make you scream and may even rip ya, but from Cam’rin Diaz to Kelly Ripa, all the freaks know that ‘Big Poppa Pump’ is the man you want inch by inch’a! Holla if ya hear me!”</em> Ric Flair comes out to tell Steiner that while he is glad to see Scott still holding the title, as he still plans on making him one of the best World champions WCW has ever had by making him be a fighting champion, he needs to just leave it alone with Blanchard as Tully is not an active wrestler anymore and just gets a little hot-headed when he sees Scott. “Big Poppa Pump” says that’s not good enough. He tells Flair that he has had enough of “that horse’s ass” sticking his ugly face into Scott’s business, since he is so envious of Steiner then he wants him in a sanctioned match at Envy on the 13th! Steiner even says if he has to, he’ll put the belt on the line to get that old sumbitch to accept! Flair starts saying he can’t do that, but Blanchard himself slides into the ring, and he takes a microphone, saying that he may be old, but he is out to teach Steiner to respect those who came before him; saying that without men like himself and Flair, there would be no pro wrestling for Scott to be the champ of. Blanchard says that he doesn’t care if he wins the belt because he’s not an active wrestler anymore, but he’ll accept the challenge for it anyways just to prove to Steiner that he can beat him for it! Scott smiles as Ric tries to talk Tully down, following him back up the ramp talking but not getting through to him. All three men did some great playing off one another, though Tully just looks completely out of Scott and Ric’s league to younger fans. Scott’s performance was good though, and this got the show off to a great start. (A+)</p><p> </p><p> Not to in-ring action just yet as “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash comes to the ring. He says that “Big Sexy” is in da house, and if “Flexy Lexy” and “Butt Daddy” have the guts to run their mouths about him, then they can come down to the ring and face him tonight in a tag match! Totally Buff come out and ask who he even has left to team with him, saying that Dallas and Scott are washed up and gone, but Nash tells them to accept the challenge and they’ll find out in the main event. Madusa helps Luger to stay on track, as he says he only has 4% body fat so there’s no one Nash can bring in who’s in better shape. They accept the match, as Arn tries to put over that mystery tag challenges sometimes don’t end well, but he doesn’t come off very well here. Despite this needing better color commentary, it gets the crowd hotter. Styles picks up the win via disqualification.</p><p> </p><p> Shane keeps on the attack, hitting AJ repeatedly with the chain and then landing him with the Franchiser to leave him laying on the mat. As Douglas is leaving the ringside area, Gene Okerlund and Jeremy Borash rush out to meet him, with Gene telling Borash to hurry up or they’ll miss the scoop for the Hotline! They catch up to Shane, with “Mean” Gene asking Douglas why he would give up that match like he did. Douglas says that he didn’t care about someone like AJ Styles or Rey Mysterio Jr. before, these young pups weren’t on his radar at all. But then he was stripped of his Hardcore title, to make room for this X Division that was meant to replace good wrestling with flips and flops; and he isn’t going to let them replace “The Franchise,” not over his dead body!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Match Time: 4:08</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Notes: Styles was off his game a little. Kanyon says that his psyche belongs to the Dark Eden, and they can do whatever they want with it. Kanyon tells him there is only one way to be free, and Daffney starts screaming blood, blood, blood! They say that “The Cat” can have a match against Kanyon, but it will be a first blood match! Miller agrees, Daffney screams, and Arn Anderson tries to put over the brutality of a first blood match but comes off a little weak because he’s not a very strong color commentator yet. She says that Norman Smiley’s actions sickened her to her core last week, and they are going to make him pay for it! As they leave, Gene tells Jeremy not to embarrass him in front of pretty girls like that, asking if he really looks that old. They recount what happened between the two in February, which led to Blanchard getting the better of Steiner in an unsanctioned brawl, but only by the help of Booker T. Can Tully get the better of Scott again, with the World title on the line? The only way we’ll know is by watching WCW Envy! Chris Lovey is still pretty underwhelming compared to veterans like Tony and Gene. (D+)</p><p> </p><p> Before we go back to the ring, Gene sends it to an interview he and Jeremy caught earlier tonight as they got in the middle of a conversation between Ric and Tully. Flair is trying to talk Blanchard down, but he refuses, saying that he is going to do this as a veteran, as a second generation wrestler, and as a man! Okerlund asks if Tully thinks that he as a retired wrestler stands a chance against the current reigning champion of the World. Flair tries to say no, that Steiner is in much better shape and has been wrestling week in and week out compared to Tully not having been in the ring in years; but Tully says that anything can happen, and there’s always a chance. He finally convinces Flair to be on his side, just like Tully was for all those years for Flair. He says they have a little over a week to get him into fighting shape again, and he’s going to use every second of it. The two friends hug, with Arn on commentary saying that he is worried about Tully, but he will be on his side no matter what. Tully did a superb job of selling this angle, with Gene working the off-script freedom to his advantage. Gene and Jeremy shared a small hug in the background, adding comedy to the touching moment of friends coming together, even if even having Gene there seemed to detract from the moment. Flair came across well as a concerned friend, but Arn continued to be having a bad night. When he feels he’s done enough, he leans over Mysterio and tells him that Flair’s preoccupation with his old broken down friend has left an opening on a contract laying in Ric’s office; so Douglas signed it, granting him one more match for the X Division title at Envy, in a last man standing match! He says that it will be a six man ladder match, where each man wagers something special to themselves and the winner not only takes all of them but also will earn a title shot of his choosing at a time of his choice. He lists the competitors as Billy Kidman, General Rection, Dustin Rhodes, Lance Storm, Sean O’Haire, and Rick Steiner, saying that they will talk next week on Nitro to say what they are wagering for this bout. Chris didn’t come out of the segment sounding good because it was so obvious he was reading from a script. (C-)</p><p> </p><p> “Prime Time” Elix Skipper with Major Gunns on his arm leads out Mike Awesome and Shawn Stasiak to the ring. O’Haire is the only Thriller in the building so he comes out to answer, saying that he’s a little busy at Envy, but as soon as Elix gives them two members to take on he and Jindrak, they have the match. It looks like The World are gearing up for an attack, but Booker T makes a surprise appearance to have Sean’s back! That got the crowd hotter all of a sudden! Booker says that he is all healed up after the Pride match and he’s ready to get back into the thick of things. Shawn Stasiak scoffs, saying that Lance Storm isn’t even all healed up yet, so there’s no way Booker would be ready for anything by Envy. At this point Skipper starts to look weak as he is getting ignored in his own segment, but bigger things are happening as Booker dares Stasiak to try him, and the two agree to face one another at WCW Envy! Arn Anderson does a fairly poor job of selling the match, which hurts this segment all around; he is slowly getting better, I promise! Shawn tells Booker that he’s going to finish off whatever Lance left behind of Booker at Pride, but Booker responds with his catchphrases; Shawn can save the drama for his mama and at Envy he shouldn’t hate the player, just hate the game. It seems Kidman is not very happy about how things went down earlier tonight during what should have been he and Mysterio’s tag match, and no matter how many times Rey tries to tell Billy that he got attacked, Kidman isn’t having any of it. Tygress tries to calm her men down, but it’s just not working. Konnan finally notices Gene and Jeremy, telling them that if they’re here for a scoop, he has a scoop for them: since Rey-Rey is taking on Douglas and Billy is in the Envy match, he’s challenging Jeff Jarrett to put up the US title and toss his salad at Envy! ©</p><p> </p><p> It’s main event time, and David Penzer is in the ring bringing out Totally Buff. Dustin fights in the ring alongside Nash, but Rick Steiner comes to ringside and pulls Rhodes out of the ring, the two of them getting in a fight on the floor! Dustin is left bloodied as Steiner uses a dog collar to punch him repeatedly with! That leaves Nash alone with Totally Buff together, and they are able to tie him up in the ropes and leave him defenseless. While he can’t do anything about it, Luger and Bagwell get Dustin back in the ring after the brutal attack by Steiner, where Luger lifts Dustin onto his shoulders and Bagwell delivers the Buff Blockbuster off of Lex! 20. <p>Just Business</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">From the desk of Eric Bischoff</span></span></p><p> Some news from backstage of the last Friday Nitro, as Kevin Nash was spreading news that he heard Johnny Ace on the phone with some people giving away spoilers from the live show before it went on the air. Before it spread out too far, I put a stop to it by pulling Kevin aside and telling him not to be going around spreading baseless rumors. However, in private I did ask him to keep an ear out on things like that for me in the future, because I’ll be honest, I am still pretty skeptical of how the WWF seemed to know and sign up almost all of the young, mostly ECW talents I was looking to pick up for the X Division. I feel lucky to have been able to grab up Low-Ki and Kid Kash, as well as someone else who is going to debut next week on Nitro. Nash seemed to take this task to heart, saying that “The game is afoot, Watson!” Also, Dustin Rhodes put on a barbeque for everyone, and thankfully no one ate too much and got sick before their matches.</p><p> </p><p> I took note that Norman Smiley seemed to be sporting a more ripped physique; fortunately it wasn’t enough to make the fans take him too much more seriously as I changed his gimmick to capitalize more on his comedic timing, as a comedy-based fun babyface. It went over very well with the crowd. Also David Penzer seemed to take to his old staff member gimmick again; I would rate him as above average, as well as Major Gunns. Her hanging off of Elix Skipper just because Lance Storm wasn’t on hand was to show off that I’ve turned her gimmick into a complete slut, who will get on the side of whoever she feels is in charge.</p><p> </p><p> Elix Skipper also requested a raise from me. It wasn’t a lot, as he was only making $2,400 a month and asked for an additional $1,370. I didn’t feel that he had grown enough for all of that, but giving him 75% of it ($1,028) seemed fair enough. He is now making $3,428, which is a little higher than younger guys than him like AJ Styles but not as much as more talented and seasoned guys like Chavo.</p><p> </p><p> I guess I am putting off the biggest news of all, though. Last week, I was approached by someone offering me a deal that would help take WCW out of the hole. I’m not going to name names, because there is a chance that I may need that option again; it’s good to keep in my back pocket. I’ll admit, it was very nearly an offer that I could not refuse, but it came with baggage, like pushing some specific people in exchange for the loan. I opted to turn it down for now, but let the person know that I would find some sort of secret handshake to let them know if I was in that type of desperate need.</p><p> </p><p> No, instead I had a call to make that I had been putting off. And that call took me to a notary office… where I was signing over 10% stock of World Championship Wrestling in exchange for a twelve million dollar loan.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>----------</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#008000;">“I know this isn’t exactly what you had in mind when you started WCW back up, Eric, but trust me, this will be good business.”</span></p><p> </p><p> I sighed as I watched the bank account turn to a black balance for the first time in months. I wasn’t sure if I was making the right move or not, but what had to be done was done.</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#0000FF;">“Yeah… good business,”</span> I mutter to myself. <span style="color:#0000FF;">“At least it will keep everyone paid for a few months, until we can get more sustainable. And then you reap some of the benefits, of course.”</span></p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#008000;">“Hey, don’t be like that. You know, you could have asked for more, though.”</span></p><p> </p><p> The truth is, I didn’t want to get much. Twelve million was a lot of money anyways, of course; but when WCW was nearly ten million in the red, and even with the weekly pay-per-views I still saw a nearly $500,000 loss in April, I finally reached out to Shane McMahon and accepted his lifeline. That twelve million pushed the balance of the company up to $4,159,163 in the bank.</p><p> </p><p> It’s not a lot for the second largest pro wrestling company in the world, but it’s a start.</p><p> </p><p> With this, we will continue our weekly pay-per-view offerings, in the hopes of keeping afloat. This will work out well at least until the end of summer, when I can re-evaluate things and see about getting in the regular airwaves again.</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#008000;">“Hey, business partner,”</span> Shane says with a smile, <span style="color:#008000;">“don’t think that this is a one-way street. Plus if you ever need more money, it's only a few more percentages away from you now.</span></p><p> </p><p> I did not even want to think about signing any more of WCW over, even if Shane had been very courteous so far and made sure that I knew it was only behind the scenes that this was happening.</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#008000;">“But after all, you’re scratching my back. So I am going to scratch yours a little, too. I know one of the guys that our scouts are looking into, and I can give you some extra insight on how to get him locked up to WCW before Dad has a chance.”</span></p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#0000FF;">“You would do that?”</span></p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#008000;">“Why wouldn’t I? Hey, I’m happy to have lived to see Dad win the Monday Night War that you started. But I also own a share of your company whereas I’m likely to get voted down in favor of Stephanie in the future of that company. They’re willing to use all kinds of dirty tactics on you, so why wouldn’t we fire back a few shots their way?”</span></p><p> </p><p> I never would have imagined having a business partner with the last name of McMahon. But right now, in this moment, perhaps a glimmer of hope re-sparked in both of our eyes.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>----------</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="OOC" data-cite="OOC" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>So yes, as of the beginning of May, I am finally not in the red anymore! What I did was offer it up as a conjoined prize to the four people who won my big contest, with myself as a tiebreaking fifth vote. The options were do we hear out the mysterious stranger, do we take the loan from Shane, or just stay the course with the PPV model. You see which option won. It was definitely time to put this plot thread behind me, and here is to a new, uncertain future for Eric Bischoff.<p> </p><p> So I finally booked out to Envy, and am looking to post a new Nitro before the end of this weekend. Hype! Excitement! It is hopefully a new day in my WCW, where I don’t have to worry about figures quite as much, because I’m sure you all were getting as tired of seeing Eric talk about it as I was starting to feel tired of writing about it. So while I almost expect someone like TsuMirren to come in here and say I’m cheating the game by giving myself a little cash, my defense is that the game itself screwed me by charging $6m for wages in the first two months of this diary; I’m just getting it back for that. But there is more to find out. Is Shane going to stay on the level? Who is this mystery man Shane is giving up contacts for? I guess we shall have to see! Stay tuned in for next time, same Beej time, same Beej channel!</p></div></blockquote>

Trust me, I hope to not have many gaps like that either if I can help it! To be honest, even while I was booking ahead, I did somewhat consider dropping this project for something else, but then I realized a few things:</p><p> 1. Were I to start in the late-90s, I would probably end up booking everyone like Scott Steiner, the Hardyz, Jericho, Regal, etc., into the positions they are at anyways. So why not just keep this going where they are already there? Plus I really want to book guys like AJ Styles and Low-Ki from a young age like this, and something like Montreal Aftermath isn't going to get me there for years.</p><p> 2. I don't find TEW itself lends itself very well to games pre-Attitude era.</p><p> So hell... I may as well keep this one active until I either have absolutely no time for it!
