Compared to RAW, the ratings are unimportant. It's not their flagship, all-important show. <p> </p><p> Pay Per View is a different animal. PPV's cater to the people willing to spend $50 on a show (loyal, dedicated wrestling fans who like 'good wrestling') whereas the television audience includes a good portion of super casuals, who like to know what's going on, want to see stars, but are just as happy flicking over to the other channel. </p><p> </p><p> I decided to google some ratings breakdowns, to glance at some trends in ratings. Here's the 24th June episode of RAW.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> So there's are a few matches there that caused hundreds of thousands of fans to turn off. Including the Sandow match and the Christian match. Here's the week before.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The loose trend I see if that people turn off when the segments are 'unimportant' or don't involve the stars. Christian and Sandow don't come out looking good, so I'd wager that a match between the two wouldn't do well. Unless it was part of an important storyline. Which it wouldn't be.</p><p> </p><p> Guys like you and me would love seeing that match on RAW. We're wrestling fans. We like good wrestling. We're not the only type of fans WWE has though. They gotta book for casuals too, and Christian vs Sandow isn't floating casual boats.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> That's fine and dandy, but it still doesn't answer my 2nd question. Why do they book main event backwards? <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>
  3. Because they believe audiences have short attention spans, and that long matches between guys like Christian vs Sandow would cause lots and lots of casual wrestling fans to turn off. They're not wrong either. There are numbers that back this up way of thinking.

Main Event, on the other hand, isn't so important, ratings-wise. So... yay, long matches between midcarders.

PPV long, like 20 minutes. And a great match. So...fans would turn off if it was on raw? And they don't on ME?

  4. Main Event was good. Christian vs Sandow, Sin Cara vs Swagger, Big E vs Hawkins. Matthews & Rhodes on commentary this week (and AJ for the last match).

Oh sure, it was good, but it prompts 2 questions:

1: why do they book main event backwards every week? They always start with the best matches first and go on o put the worst things later on. Ridiculous.

2: Why don't we see a match like Sandow vs. Christian on Raw? They have the time to put this on Raw, where it would be greatly appreciated. Instead they fill Raw with 4 minute filler matches that no one cares about...the kind of matches that should go to main event, and put the good stuff on main event. Where's the logic? You're wellcome!

The double turn is the perfect example of using the match story to pull the turn off in strong fashion. Out of curiosity, have you watched the match? 8. So...Dexter's 7th season was awesome. That finale was probably the most brillian piece of acting i've seen in years (Where's Jen Carpenter's emmy?) And 8th season premiere wasn't bad, but i feel angry because lazy writers have been trying to make Dexter look more and more villanous because they don' have enough imagination to produce an ending that isn't tragic. Bad endings is taking the easy way out when it comes to telling a story. Making thing end well is much harder, but much more rewarding. Plus, am I the only one disapointed with the fact that the Dexter-Debra romance isn't happening?

  11. <p>Dude...seriously...not even commenting on that review.</p><p> </p><p>

So, here's something that's been bugging me for weeks now. I know that Dolph and ADR's double turn went well and might take them to big things if the E doesn't screw that, but am I the only one thinking that the execution of the turn didn't make that much sense? I mean, it's not the first time we've seen a face brutally beating up a heel with no regard for his health or any rules, that's usually the moment where the heel gets his punishment. Dozens of times I've seen faces do this...like HBK beating Y2J so much that the match had to be stopped, and he didn't turn heel because of it. Jericho was just getting what he deserved. And yet...just because ADR beat the crap out of Ziggy and cut a promo...he turns heel. And Ziggler who was actually deserving such a beating after all he did to Del Rio, turns face. What gives? I know that Del Rio executed the thing damn well, with proper heel manerisms and a promo after the match....but to me it doesn't make any sense. They could have done it in any other way. Like putting that same exact match, and after the match was over, Del Rio would continue to kick the living crap out of Ziggler, really trying to injure him, hurt him even more, even using weapons, going beyond the point of "getting his revenge" and hitting that moment where we would actually feel sorry for Ziggler, thus making it a perfect double turn. And then he could cut his promo like he did.</p><p>

Did they achieve a good turn? sure...but even I, a pro wrestling fan, used to the most ridiculous turns, can't wrap my head around the fact that a heel getting what he deserves is now a turn. I'm glad it went well, I'm glad they executed it perfectly, having in mind what they had to work with, but am I the only one thinking that is not the best way to handle a turn on a storyline like that one?</p>

  16. AJ has a very Rowdy Roddy Piper feel to him right now, minus the comedy. I hope they take their time exploring where this can go, and I think they will.

Is it a forgone conclusion already that AJ wins the BFG since that's when his 1 year without a title shot thing ends? Maybe he will lose in the finals as a swerve, but I dunno. It seems so obvious that it can't not happen. If that makes sense. :p

It does. I also think he's going to win it. Hope so, but maybe they surprise us. But I wouldn't mind to be not surprised in this matter, if that makes sense. :D

  17. Solid impact, I really like the quality of TNA's matches. Partly because they don't run as many matches as WWE and so they don't need to use fillers. It also helps to have a talented roster. I liked the kick off to the BFG series and absolutely loved the draw between Joe and Styles as I did not want to see any of them lose that match. Plus, I got to see Bully Ray squeal like a little girl when Angle locked the ankle lock. Ah...the good times! :D

Maybe do a "real" review and a "mark" review but keep them separate. I don't think it's the content putting people off, it's the formatting.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Think of it in TEW terms. You liked the quality of Punk and Young's match more then you did with Bryan and Orton's, and that's your opinion and you are entitled to it, but the majority of the fans will respond more to Bryan and Orton's match because they are more over then Young, so you have 2 main eventers delivering a good story in the ring opposed to the one main eventer and one lower midcarder doing the same. Personally I think that Orton vs. Bryan was much better. For several reasons, but that's my opinion and it's worth as much as it's worth. Which is, the same as anybody elses's opinion. But if you think about it in TEW terms, it's easy to understand why most people will like the ME match more then the other one.</p>
  19. <p>Ok, RAW review:</p><p> </p><p>

Orton vs. Bryan take 1 (Double DQ) - Good match, and a nice, fast paced and intense way to open up Monday Night Raw. It was almost the first time in a long time that RAW opened without a promo. Almost being the key word, as there were some words exchanged between both men and bryan had some things to say before Orton arrived. But it was a good way to open the show. As I said, intense and fast paced. - I'll give it a B+ grade. Very good opening.</p><p> </p><p>

Sheamus/Christian vs. Rhodes Scholars: Solid match, maintaining the high rhythm brought by the previous segment and it didn't disappoint as a match. The result was good, everyone went home happy. Nothing wrong with it. That will be a C+</p><p> </p><p>

Kaytlin vs. Aksana: Regular divas match. Not the stuff dreams are made of, but nothing that tainted the show. Served it's purpose to slow down the show's pace a little, preventing a crowd burnout, and was followed by another good promo from AJ, thus advancing a good storyline so far. I will give this match and promo combo one solid C</p><p> </p><p>

Y2J vs. Del Rio: Solid match between two great competitors with Y2J finally winning for a change. WWE proved that they know how to use PST when they want and again the pace was faster. Intense match, but not too much, with both men showing good stuff and Y2J picking up a win which I believed it would probably lead to a 3 way at MITB, but that was not ment to be. Then Ziggler attacked Del Rio and still had time to Zig Zag the crap out of Jericho. Good stuff. Another storyline advancing well. I will give it a C+ for the match and a B for the segment that followed.</p><p> </p><p>

Ryback vs. Khali: Oh Natalya...what did you do to deserve this? Yeah...well, every good show needs a bathroom brake or two, especially a 3 hour one. If you haven't watched RAW yet, feel free to go to the bathroom when this part comes. I will give this Match a E-. Then a segment followed between Ryback, Y2J and Vickie...basically setting up a Ryback vs Y2J at MITB. Regular stuff. It is a C grade segment. Nothing too transcendent, and nothing bad either.</p><p> </p><p>

Tons of Funk vs.The Usos vs. 3MB: The chance to give The Usos a match at MITB that they deserve, even if we know they will lose it, but hey...someone's gotta lose. Nothing special here, in what actually was a mediocre match. D+</p><p> </p><p>

CM Punk vs. Darren Young: A match where Punk had more offense then expected, but not a bad match. C grade. And a good promo with Paul Heyman that advanced a feud that promises to be good. Paul was good as he is always is on the mic, Punk was great and the crowd really had no idea how to respond to Punk giving the benefit of doubt to Heyman and hugging him. Which was good, because I think that they were aiming at that reaction and it's the best possible reaction one could expect from that promo. Then Punk was attacked by PTP and Curtis Axel made the save, which served as way to keep Heyman connected to Punk and delivers a tag team match next week that will probably keep the storyline flowing well. B grade for the promo.</p><p> </p><p>

Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton: Great stuff, great match and the perfect way to end the show. There was intensity, fast paced action, some bumps, weapons and a good match overall. Based not just in the quality of the match itself, but also on the quality of how well these guys told their Story, I will give it a B+ Good stuff!</p><p> </p><p>

Overall: B grade to Monday Night Raw. A good show that had it's ups and downs but was mostly good and entertaining. And that's what we want to see. WWE's product is improving and although this wasn't as good as last Monday's RAW (which I grade as B+) I think it kept the quality and helped build the momentum to what we expect to be a good PPV.</p>

  21. I'm guessing Vince will probably be the Heel. Which becomes even more...I don't even know what to call the situation, since he's always turning, so, nothing new there. If not him, maybe Stephanie, but I highly doubt it will be Trips the one that turns. My money is on Vince. I imagine Vince will end up entering a power war with Hunter and Stephanie will try to amend things, or something like that. Or maybe they will all enter a pissing contest, including Stephanie, if we remember her last words to Vickie on Monday. Either way, i'm actually interested to see where it goes, and contrary to many other, or so it seems, I like to see the Mcmahons on TV, so I'm enjoying.
