Episode 36: Showcase of Shocks and Shenanigans

It's time for the RAW TV Title to take center stage as Frogue Element will look to defend his belt against Will Beaumont. But that's not all as Swoop McCarthy hopes to gain vengeance for the attack he suffered at the Spooky September Battle Royal.

    Predictions
    (Out of 3)

Bad luck seems to follow Swoop McCarthy around ever since he set his targets on a fifth TV Title. This week it strikes again... Who will be responsible? Big Mac, Alexander Banks, Spiffy Stan Standish, Rod Sullivan, Luke Steele or Brodie Lachlan?

RAW TV Title: Frogue Element © vs Will Beaumont

(If a Wayne interferes, Frogue loses the belt, if a LiberTeen interferes Will loses)

Beautiful Heartbreak (Blake and Bret) vs Heath & Horton

    Rules

1 point goes to the person with the most correct points each week.

These points can be saved up or cashed in. 1 Point is also given to anybody who has one of their questions answered in 2 different shows.

1 Point: A request for a certain worker to receive new merchandise

1 Point: A minor cosmetic change (small change of haircut.. change of clothes colour, small tattoo etc)

2 Point: A specific request for new merchandise (pick what is it/what it looks like)

2 Point: A medium cosmetic change (Major tattoo, New hairstyle, dye hair, attire change etc.)

4 Point: A major cosmetic overhaul (All of new hair style, new attire, etc)

You're also welcome to suggest something and I can let you know how many points that would cost. I would say though that unless perhaps you save up lots of points a change still has to be at least partly in fitting with the character, for example if you ask me to put Swoop McCarthy in a dog costume I'll probably just say no...

    History

La Estrella used up 3 points for a full makeover of Alexander Banks

HiPlus used up 3 points for a full makeover of Loxley Robbins

  3. Masked Cougar vs. Nelson Callum

Tigre Salvaje Jr & Konrad Makinen vs. Mimic & Tsuneyo Yanagimoto

Apollo Prince vs. Mr. Lucha III

    Captain Lucha vs. Ernest Youngman

    Frankie Perez vs. Kalu Owusu

Another great show last time, again with a strong main event. Side note really I must admit I'd never properly checked out the theme songs before but I liked all the ones I clicked on. Youngman in particular with how you wrote his debut has quickly developed a strong character.

  4. Could I possibly make a request for the next patch?

I'm wanting to run a UFC meets Attitude Era WWE style product. So I'm going with MMA Entertainment. I can't see too much difference between Faux MMA and MMA Entertainment but I know the latter gives me some space for short angles which I definitely want and it allows gimmicks to have an effect if used.

But there's just two (maybe three) changes I'd love to see.

One is that fans are put off by dangerous, controversial, bloody match types. I sort of understand this being in here but I also imagine this type of fan to be pretty bloodthirsty. The idea that an MMA style product can't be bloody doesn't seem right to me.

Second bit is about sex appeal. I understand it being penalised but I think even just mildly would do, definitely not severely. I mean every 5 minutes in UFC they show a ring girl who is there 100% solely to provide sex appeal. And although I wouldn't say modern UFC interviewers are there solely for sex appeal I don't think the idea of a product that basically does do that is far fetched. I think I could agree with angles primarily being rated on sex appeal being penalised but not angles roles, especially early MMA was very much targeting the young males demographic and so I just think sex appeal being so severely penalised in any form doesn't gel well with that.

I might being pedantic here just to get this perfect product for myself but I'd also say Aerial ability shouldn't matter. At the moment both MMA products don't account for the hardcore skill, which I agree with but I'd add aerial to that. Flashiness allows for things like those cage running super kicks and stuff like that.

  5. I'm still intrigued to see what happens with Nicky Gilbert, although it doesn't seem like he's gained superpowers from the belt!

He sort of has, but nothing that will give him an immediate super push. Saying that he bulked up pretty early on in game and now his star quality is 99. Thing is he's definitely not close enough to Swoop as a figurehead so in some ways I'm reluctant to push him into major stars unless he starts to hurt Swoop.

His power is that he's essentially seen the future of RAW. But he can't change it in any way. It sounds like a pretty horrific power really as he's just stuck acting out a predetermined path. What that will mean for him in the long run I'm not fully certain but I enjoyed using it as another hint about Swoop's future.

I'm toying with doing something a little different presentation wise (as a one off) for the next episode. I want to get that right before posting predictions but will hopefully be up soon.

  7. I agree with all the others who have said a toned down version of IPW could be an answer.

At the same time I can certainly relate to being in ruts with certain diaries. I'd also say I wouldn't force it too much. You say the product isn't fully resonating with you and I do honestly think the more a writer is personally into and excited about a project the more likely it will resonate with readers.

I'd 100% like to see IPW continue but just chiming in a different opinion that obviously the more great qualities diaries on here the better and if a change of promotion is what is needed for you to get into a longer term project then I'd at least allow yourself to think about what this would be and see if anything grabs you.

  8. I definitely like the idea of an archive. Quite a few of my old favourites I read are lost which is such a shame, especially for the writers themselves. It's 100% informed my decision to keep my diary in PDF form to protect against something like that in the future.

I seem to remember a couple of diaries being posted turned into PDFs years ago but sadly I can't imagine it's common for people to have them backed up? Hopefully I'm wrong as there can be some archive built up.

  9. You know I am starting to have my doubts about Cpt Lucha. Maybe Mr Lucha III is right about some of it. Next weeks main event should be great. This week's one definitely did a good job showing quite how threatening Youngman is to the title.

Konrad's promo was interesting as I definitely see the whole hero's journey/circle theory in some stories here. Especially Owusu losing his spot in the league, having to go on his journey and coming back to the league but having changed.

The actual event itself was in February but the majority of the build up was in January. In general shows like these (promotion vs promotion) can sometime seem less important in a sense because they can be more of an exhibition and a break from the storylines. This did a good job of briefly building up a lot of new 5SSW workers with backstage posts running down the card and tour dates building up storylines.

I think quite a few people have enjoyed the slow build of Owusu earning his way back into the league. There's plenty of other highlights I could have given the nod to but this went on throughout January.

It might seem strange to nominate to nominate a relative midcarder when there's been plenty of other great goings on, but he's a character I always look forward to and he's had a pretty big month with his PPV victory.

  12. Yep, I'll say it again, poor Tayama. At least there's plenty of motivation for him to also make a return ala Owusu.

Interested to see what happens with Nelson Callum now, I can sense he might get a taste of his own medicine maybe with Melanie but regardless I liked him knocking her away as a throwback to that with J-Ro.

The Perez 100% story is also interesting in that I can't see it happening but it does hype up each of his matches. I'm starting to feel quite good about my Perez/Youngman prediction.
