1.
So, my slightly modified TCW save just closed out 2017 with a bang. A 94 rated PPV, and a 99 rated match the night before got us Most Improved of 2016, and we started 2017 as the #1 promotion in the world.

Let's start with backstage stuff.

Currently, I have 2 Dev feds - Mid-Atlantic Wrestling in the US and Total Wrestling Fight-o! in Japan. Nate Johnson, Brent Hill, Sky King and Joel Bryant are doing a great job as trainers, and Bryan Vessey will be joining them by year-end. We now have three shows: Total Complete Wrestling, Saturday Night Showdown, and Up In Flames!

American Buffalo was not renewed. Old age finally got to him, and he just wasn't worth holding onto. Likewise for RDJ, who wound up with USPW, which is a good victory lap. And he did the job on his way out, helping me put Jay Chord in the Upper Midcard scene.

Eddie Peak is out for a year. Originally, he was supposed to be the one to 'retire' Bryan Vessey, after a face turn, but I'm not sure I have 24 months to wait on that. Champagne Lover (my character) is out for 60 days, which is unfortunately slowing a Troy Tornado push.

I don't even remember all the names I signed this year. As I said, I have a slightly modified TCW save - an alt-history where Champagne Lover buys the promotion and convinces Tommy Cornell to give him 2 years to make sure the young talent is ready, rather than leave them in the lurch, and as part of this, Joey Minnesota also stays.

I stole Skull DeBones in February, specifically to knock SWF out of the National battles. Expensive, but worth it. They were within 5 points of me, and stealing DeBones kneecapped them. I also managed to sign Ricky DeColt (currently in Dev), Johnny Bloodstone, Rich Money, Matthew Keith, Xtinction, Trent Schaffer, The Bumfholes, Rick Law, Paul Huntingdon, Jungle Jack, Jefferson Stardust, Joss Thompson, Adam Matravers, Alexander Tritchkov (pre-show enhancement talent to train mid-row stats), and Cameron Vessey.

As far as storylines go -

Paul Huntingdon came into TCW on a tear, chewing through wrestlers, beating 22 in a row and winning the Intercontinental Chanpionship. He then started an open challenge, which Matt Keith finally accepted, and lost (through interference). Joss Thompson then took up the challenge, and lost when Matt Keith, infuriated at Huntingdon's refusal of a rematch, attacked them both and broke up the match. That led to a 3-way fight for the belt, which Keith finally won. The feud lasted for several months, mostly in the background, but eventually caught fire again, when Greg Gauge challenged his brother for the belt. First he beat Joss Thompson to prove his worth, but Thompson interefered in the title match to retaliate, costing Greg the win. Greg got his rematch, and won, but didn't win clean. He asked for a third rematch, putting title on the line, and finally, at Psycho Circus, the brothers had their final rematch - Matt Keith won, but was immediately attacked by Joss Thompson and Paul Huntingdon, causing Gauge to go to his brother's rescue.

(Gauge is now UM, Keith & Huntingdon ME's).

The Jay Chord - Mighty Mo feud went back and forth a bit for a while, trading wins. But eventually, Chord hired on Jungle Jack and Ricky DeColt as enforcers, and they began going to town on Mo. Fortunately, at that point, the Bumholes appeared. They teamed up with Mighty Mo, since Chord & Jack were after them as well. As of this moment, Mo just lost to Chord in a Steel Cell match, after Jack's distraction, and DeColt was beaten by Jungle Jack after he accidentally hit Jack when DeColt interefered with a match, and had to be stretchered out. He was fired by Jack and is currently in MAW.

Vessey and Golden had their feud, with Vessey several times beating up Golden's valet Garry the Entertainer, and eventually kidnapping him to force Golden to lie down for a pin. Eventually, Golden was able to find Garry, and challenged Vessey to a rematch. Vessey, thinking he still had the upper hand, agreed. He was distraught to see Garry come in partway through the match and eventually Garry landed the finishing punch. Rocky and Garry kiss. Garry goes to MAW (cause his Psychology is 33!) and Vessey goes on to start beating his opponents to within an inch off their life.

Chance Fortune and Darryl Devine broke up their tag team, after Devine felt that Fortune wasn't taking it seriously enough. They won the tag belts, and Fortune argued that he had most of the pins, but Devine told him that HE was willing to work harder to ensure they won. Fortune, in attempt to prove to Devine that he COULD take things seriously, won the TCW's new MMA Champion belt, awarded for shoot fights, and tried to challenge him to make him see reason.

And Rich Money is basically Ted DiBiase. He came in, bought out Eddie Peak and Titan (now Killer Shark and Titan, after Peak's injury) and formed the Spoiler Alert stable. Danny Fonzarelli, attempting to prove that he would not be swayed, joined up with Benny Benson to bring Money down. But Money, instead, convinced Fonzarelli that Benson didn't care about him at all, and this has led to a Benson & Matravers vs Spoiler Alert feud. Finally, at Psycho Circus, Benson managed to beat Fonzarelli, and spent the next ten minutes lecturing him about how much of an idiot he's been. Time will tell whether Fonzarelli has learned his lesson.

But the biggest storyline of the year, one with a rating over 90 for 2 months, and which led to 3 matches rated 95+...

Joey Minnesota stood up to Tommy Cornell, angry over him fighting new wrestlers just so he could demolish them to make himself look good. He finally fought Cornell and won, capping it off with a Minnesota Salute.

The next night, Minnesota was fired. But he snuck into Malice in Wonderland, knocked out Rocky Golden, and beat Aaron Andrews in a Cage match for the belt. With the belt on, Cornell couldn't fire him.

Minnesota kept the belt for 6 months, but finally he lost it. Tommy Cornell powerbombed him off the ramp the night before the title match, but that wasn't why he lost it. It's because during what was supposed to be his title defense the next night vs Rocky Golden, Aaron Andrews (now Cornell's enforcer) and Tommy Cornell ran down to cause trouble, leading to Golden & Minnesota vs Andrews & Cornell. And since individiual belts can't be defended in tag matches, Minnesota had the title stripped for not defending it on PPV.

Cornell then gave the title to Wolf Hawkins... Which left Aaron Andrews extremely angry, and fired Joey Minnesota AGAIN.

At this point, Andrews turns on Hawkins and Cornell, and eventually challenges for the title in a match. Just as he wins, Joey Minnesota hits the ring, grabbing the title from him and smashing everyone around him with it, causing Andrews to turn face, and Minnesota to turn heel.

Then, it turned out that Minnesota still couldn't be fired, because he hadn't lost the title under legitimate means (had it not turned into a tag match, it would have remained a title match). So now Minnesota and Andrews each have a title and claim to be champion. But Wolf is feuding with Andrews for what he considers the legitimate title.

And while Minnesota is still feuding with Cornell, it has become solely a personal issue, and Cornell has started to throw Minnesota up against a meat-grinder of hard matches. This can really only go one of two places - either unification, or Cornell quitting.

It's been a lot of fun to book everything so far. I'm really ezcited to see where the Minnesota - Cornell feud and the Keith / Huntingdon feud go. And right now, the majority of my top (or soon to be top) wrestlers are in their early 30's or younger, which means TCW is ready for the future.

I forgot to put him down, my apologies if i sound ungrateful for asking that.

I suggest Lucas Brass. Alternatively, Rutherford Coppola. Depending on gimmick.

 4.
Jameson, and get him a good valet. He's the pretty boy type, so a bubbly face manager turning him into a good guy would be believable. Talking is a lot easier to balance for than bad wrestling.

Youngman has always just looked like a heel to me. And Greg's father is still one of the best heels of all time, so he should really only turn face off of some major loss after being beaten down for a Main Event title.

 5. Heck, yes. Push that man to the moon. Preferably using Eric's bloated career.
 6.

So I had a mass talent exodus (to bigger and brighter things) the same month that I gave the tag titles to then midcard pairing Jamie Atherton & Jayson Van Pelt, The Canadian Outlaws. After the exodus, Atherton autopushes to Main Event and with his star quality and mic skills, I kinda want to give him the belt, especially since I want to get it off of now flabby face champ Harry Allen, who is probably done after this "season" of my company. (12 month seasons)

Now, what I want to do with Atherton is have him throw down the tag titles, declare them beneath him, and move on to title contention. The question is, this leaves Van Pelt in the lurch. He is still midcard, though not far from Upper Mid.

I'm looking at the following choices, but would also accept a better one if it showed up:

*Turn Van Pelt face, have him feel offended and keep Atherton busy for a bit (allows Allen to finish his feud with the Rudos stable and Devious Doctor Fang)

*Leave Van Pelt heel but have him find a new tag team partner (perhaps NBT Drake Young) and keep the belts

*Leave Van Pelt heel and have him also go solo and after the midcard title held by also heel Sonny Wildside

*Other?

Why not a little of all 3? Have Van Pelt team up with Wildside, and then try to prove to Atherton that he was real power behind the team all along.

 7.
Tajiri's SMASH promotion was actually one of the two things that finally sold me on professional wrestling. So my personal choice would be the SMASH Dragons.

But, based on their movesets, the Buzzsaw Cutters (or, as a Japanese announcer might say it BUZZO-SAAW KAA-TAAAHSSSUU) might also work.

 8.

Whether or not a given worker will sign a development contract depends on the worker, age, developmental level, and personality. Your company size as the parent company may factor in, but not the child company.

Honestly, I used to open up the biggest developmental company I could afford. Now I open up 2 or 3 at the smallest size. Obviously depends on the product and the quality of the prospects. But I've found that if you can stock those companies with 15-20 good prospects, the companies grow quite well over time.

Other than signing people to developmental contracts, is there a way to stock companies? I've been assuming it's mostly laissez-faire, outside of booker and owner.

Another thing about size is that it has so far seemed to me that bigger companies can hire better talent. So, I have a small dev league and then a regional dev league that I've been using as a kind of graduation in hopes that people will start at the small league, once they hit ME go to the regional to keep getting more skill.

Speaking of development, I know that workers can get unhappy about being stuck down there, as they feel they won't improve anymore. But what if you send someone "down there to work"? Can they become unhappy too, and request being brought up?

I don't know how common it is, but people I've sent to work and to train have both requested to come back. Much less frequently than the people training, though. I've had people I've sent to develop send 3 emails a week (even if they still have 5 skills that can be seriously improved. Shut up, Killer Shark.) whereas people working or training only seem to ask to be brought up every month or so

I'd actually also like an answer to the question above, 'cause I'd like to create a cruiserweight division down the line, and bring back either the All Action or Cruiserweight title... And if all goes well, perhaps a women's division in a few years.

I basically did a Cruiserweight division in my last TCW save, though it wasn't explicitly weight-class based. Cruiserweight stuff seems like exactly what TCW fans want.

 10. Is there a place where people have uploaded all the character portaits for linking to them when writing a diary? I don't neccesarily mind doing it, but it would be easier if they were already out there.
 11.

Yes, TCW eats up "controversial" characters -- Sammy Bach's Deadpool character came in as a gothic heel, but the fans turned him face. They're the "alternative" to SWF and to USPW in this save.

I doubt the storyline will be divisive in L.A. I would try to be a bit subtle, if only because TCW doesn't shove anything in users faces.

Is there any way you can start a diary with this save? I'd love to read it. Even if it is "text-only".

Nice, I'll go with that then.

Thanks for the encouragement. I might be able do a diary - though I'm about six months in, so it would be picking up in the middle of a bunch of storylines. I'll give it a test with a few shows and see how long it takes me to write up.

 12.

Need some suggestions for a new tag name for the Good Ol' Boys, Wooton Fitzpaine & Thingbly Langton (sp?). Going to sign them as a heel team and the current tag name seems only fit for a face team. I'm open to renaming them individually so they can be a "brother" or "cousin" team. I'm thinking a wild men/backwoods/evil hillbilly/Wyatt Family type vibe.

Some of my thoughts are below, but not really feeling any of them:

* The Backwoods Militia

* The Southern Justice

* The Langton (sp?) Family/Boys

Thoughts?

I'll third Good Ol' Boys as already being pretty heely.

For other ideas, how about the Bedford Forest Boys? You can even turn it into a semi-comedic thing if you want, where they think they're called that in "honor" of Nathan Bedford Forrest. But it's actually because they lived in the outskirts of Bedford Iowa.

Really, anything associated with the Confederacy is a good way to get instant Heel heat anywhere north of Carolina.

The Stonewall Gang

Dixieland Dragons

The Manassas Grapplers.

I also like Stars & Bars, but that would probably fit a 'hipper' gimmick. And Mountain Dewdes is a face Southerner stable name that I just thought of and need to use now.

 13.
Does creating a Child Company give you any benefits besides having a feeder league, and a warm heart from helping the wrestling industry?

Because I'm making about $1 million a month in profits, and I'm thinking about reinvesting it in a bunch of Dojos and Feeder Leagues throughout the world. But if there's benefits to having them in certain regions (or if they pay me some of their revenue based on size), or something, then it might be worth being more particular about where and how.

 14.
So, I'm playing as TCW. Rocky Golden is currently my figurehead. I recently gave him a manager named Gary the Entertainer, who is a rookie wrestler with 75+ Mic/Cha/Star, but terrible on both second and top row skills.

I'm planning a storyline where Rocky and Bryan Vessey clash, and Gary is the 'damsel in distress', before he gets injured (at which point I send him to developmental for 18 months) and Rocky retaliates and crushes Vessey (trying to slowly get him and RDJ to midcarder as gatekeepers).

The question is - I'm thinking of making there be a romance between Rocky and Gary. Do you think TCW fans would accept a gay face? Or should I just hint at it now, and make that the basis for a Rocky vs. Gary feud when he returns?

 15.

Well what i think is maybe Shawn Michael or Shane McMahon introduct into the Hall of Fame during a Smackdown show. And from there he can challege John Cena at one final match. The plan is to build Cena turn heel and Undertaker (kayfabe) Leaving the WWE is the best build.

I feel like Cena getting mad over losing a title is kinda beneath him. If in your game this is his 16th time, he's already the most dominant champion of all time.

My fantasy booking if you want a Cena heel turn, and you are playing a universe where Brock didn't break the streak is to basically Harry Potter it:

Set up a feud where Cena decides that the only way to prove that he is the best WWE wrestler is to beat the streak, and prove that he's the true company man, not the Undertaker.

So, he and Undertaker still have the Wrestlemania match. Cena beats Taker. Fans are pissed that he broke the streak. 22-1. Instantly, enough heat to turn Cena heel...

Except, just before the match, Undertaker gave up his powers to Bray Wyatt, who wins his match at Wrestlemania. Over the next few months, it slowly starts to manifest and people realize what's happening.

Cut ahead to the Royal Rumble. At which point, you bring out... Mark Calloway, who wins, with Wyatt's help, and officially passes the torch by giving him his Wrestlemania spot. Wrestlemania, Wyatt comes out to Taker's music, beats Cena clean, and up flashes....24-0

Sorry, that was kinda off topic, but I couldn't resist.

 16.

Thanks for the response... I knew the first part, it just makes me wonder why I'm the #2 company in the world, when I'm at International and #1 is at National, and I'm beating them in the National battles...

Anyways, it's not a big thing, as I'm beating them and grading my shows higher than theirs, and can beat them to basically any signing. Was just wondering.

I believe ranking specifically has to do with cash on hand, because USPW and SWF still outrank me as TCW even when I'm National with high pop & momentum, and they're both Cult, simply because they have more finances.

 17.
I'm starting to think that I just don't understand how to book TCW right. Like, after a full year in my current game, I have never been able to put on a show rated over 86.

Then, last night I started playing a new save of my slightly modified TCW game, to try some new story ideas. I ran a Rocky Golden v Tommy Cornell match - the 2 biggest stars in the company - "Once in a Lifetime" show note, at a major PPV. Rocky goes over via a clean fall, thanks to a distraction from a wrestler Cornell is feuding with in an 86 rated storyline. And I did it after a 'Calm the Crowd' match and 2 hype angles to build up hype again. Final match rating... 75.

Meanwhile, Matthew Keith vs Marc Speed for the IC belt gets me an 82.

At this point, I'm genuinely starting to think that I'm missing something. I understand that in a performance > pop company, good wrestling is better than stars. But neither Keith nor Speed have skills as high as Golden. Even though I have people on my roster getting super over and getting more skilled, the shows as a whole never get hotter, and even the matches never really improve.

I'm running solidly rated storylines. I'm building new talent, and keeping old talent strong. Viewers & PPV buys go up. I just can't get show ratings up. I mean, I'm still enjoying my fantasy booking of Sammy Bach trashing dressing rooms, so maybe I should stop caring about #'s. But I like doing well.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm considering either USPW or BHOTWG, but I don't really have a feel for what they'd play like. Maybe to get it started, I'll rip off TNA and have the Explosive Division, for people who are "high-flying and high-energy", with the wink and nod being 'like a lot of cruiserweights are, but also Josh Taylor or Frankie P". And I can probably put together a 'B' show to accelerate that.

Actually, in trying to figure out how to make that work, you've inspired me to make two additional titles AND solved Buffalo for me. I have MAW as a child company. So I'll start the "Mentor Match" where the person holding the belt has to/gets to go train people in MAW. I can see all sorts of hijinks ensuing as fighters compete to try to lose so they aren't stuck holding the belt.

And I can start an annual Rookie of the Year tournament for wrestlers who first "started wrestling" that year - with anyone from MAW or other indies allowed to compete, but not guys I stole from the other National companies.

Honestly, I might keep Zimmy's name, if just because keeping him as a heel with a name like Zimmy Bumfhole and his punchable face is perfect... but what would I even do with Randy?

If you keep Zimmy as-is, how about turning Randy into Randall Butts, and have him do a Dusty Rhodes as atoner kinda thing? "My brother Zimmy and I wanted to get out of poverty, so we sold our lives and our names to SWF, and they made us act like huge stars. But it wasn't enough for Zimmy. He started to believe the lie, and now he's even sold his soul for it. But family is worth more to me than that, so even if it means we have to go back to being farmhands, I will make my brother see the light."

For instance if I have a Brawl Based match turn into a Wild Brawl does that count the Brawl skill twice as much, the same, or somewhere in between?

 25.
7 months into a modified TCW game:

Rich Money is the World Heavyweight Champion thanks in no small part to his stable Spoiler Alert - consisting of International Champion Freddy Huggins, tag team Sharknado (Killer Shark and Bulldozer Brandon Smith) and Aaron Andrews (who revealed his allegiance by costing Rocky Golden his chance at a contendership match). So far, Money has won all his title defenses by bribing his opponents to take a fall.

Rocky Golden is out of contention for the Heavyweight Championship and is chasing the Pure Wrestling title.

Sammy Bach, Matt Keith and Edd Stone have joined together to oppose Spoiler Alert - Bach is currently the company figurehead and is opposing Money on idealistic grounds. Stone has a grudge against Huggins for breaking off their tag team and then interfering in Stone's matches, and Keith lost the IC belt to Huggins via cheap tactics.

Devine Fortune are currently Tag Team Champions. New Wave seem to be on their way to breaking up. But our tag team division in general is quite strong. A tag team match with a Killer Shark and Freddy Huggins team in it still managed an 81!

Troy Tornado & RDJ had a 2 month feud off a handicap match against American Buffalo, when Tornado thought RDJ sneak attacked him. It ended with RDJ beating Troy clean, Troy storming off in shame and then coming out the next night to save RDJ from a Buffalo sneak attack before getting his first win against Buffalo.

And in a storyline that has been escalating over the last few months - (player character) Angry Gilmore came in as new GM of TCW, and it led to a feud with Tommy Cornell (one of my modifications. I know, I know), which has begun to get really nasty. Taylor and Gilmore tied Cornell and Hawkins at War to Settle the Score. Hawkins snapped and started injuring opponents which led to him eventually getting put out of the Heavyweight chase, and self-destructing. (Taylor is currently 'out injured').

Cornell won at Just Another Day? with help. Gilmore won clean in a Cage match at Where Angels Fear to Tread, and the closing shot off the PPV was Tommy Cornell flipping off Gilmore. Then Cornell and Hawkins jumped Gilmore backstage, and sent him to the hospital. Cornell then spent the next 2 weeks arranging easy matches for people he liked. That ended with Gilmore returning and firing Cornell. Cornell then snuck into the next few shows, and somehow managed to become Pure Wrestling Champion. The latest wrinkle was Cornell trying yo use his title to challenge Gilmore to a match for control of the company - Gilmore refused, saying Cornell won while not an employee. So for Total Mayhem, Hawkins and Cornell beat Gilmore unconscious, rolled him into the ring, and Cornell covered him - to retain both his title and "control of the company". Gilmore was then arrested.

This now leaves me with 4 main factions - The Pretender to the Throne (Cornell), The King in Exile (Gilmore), The Corrupt (Money), and The Savior (Bach). And then Troy Tornado, Rocky Golden, and Joshua Taylor could still break any way. It looks like a war is building.

In terms of hard data, I still have yet to hit an A level show, but my last 3 PPV's have been on a continuous increase, with the last a comfortable 86. US pop has still not risen a single point though. It has stayed exactly at 78. At least Canada is now in the mid-70's.

SWF and USPW are Cult, and will be for a while. SWF in particular haven't run a single 80+ show in at least 3 months. On the other hand, NOTBPW & SOTBPW are having consistent A shows, though NOTBPW particularly has done it by taking a bunch of SWF talent. I wish Kyle Rhodes wasn't such a tightwad.

Rhodes hates me, not sure why. I've accomplished all but 1 goal, and there's still 18 months left for them. And for some reason, despite being National, and having higher show scores, I still have lower viewer ratings than SWF and I fill like 13,000 seats in an area that says over 15,000 will show up.
