WWF Summerslam Sunday, Week 4, July 1983 Hersheypark Arena Hershey, Pennsylvania Attendance: 7,157 The Titantron lit up as the intermission came to an end. Standing in front of a locker room set is Sgt. Slaughter and Don Kernodle. Sgt. Slaughter Atten-hut, maggots! Stand at attention when a superior officer walks into the room. What I want everyone here in Pennsylvania to understand is that Sgt. Slaughter is the best wrestler without a title belt. Do you understand me, pukes? I can't hear you! But that will soon be rectified, won't it, Private Kernodle? Don Kernodle Sir, yes, sir. Cobra Corps will be the doom of the World Wrestling Federation. Sgt. Slaughter That's right, Private. And now you are dismissed. And THAT'S an ORDER! ------ vs. Mr. Fuji and Tiger Chung Lee vs. Boat and Blood A definite showcase match for Boat and Blood here. They worked over the arm of Lee with double team moves, going back and forth. Mr. Fuji didn't fare much better against the Boat and Blood duo. The crowd didn't seem to care for Fuji, though and in a bad way. But Youngblood managed to get the pin on Fuji with a Rolling Reverse. Winners: Boat and Blood Match Time: 8:22 Match Rating: C- ------ The Titantron lit up once again, showing Colonel Ninotchka and the Iron Sheik. Colonel Ninotchka You Americans do not seem to understand what true wrestling is. True wrestling is not watching what we just witnessed. It's not watching some American inside the ring. True wrestling comes only from my Mother Russia and from Iran. Take a look at the man standing beside me. He has a wonderful wrestling background and can take out two men at one time. If two Americans are the doom of this federation than you may call the Iron Sheik and myself Doom times two! ------ The picture on the Titantron switched to the Grand Wizard and Big John Studd! The Grand Wizard Alright, John, this is the night. Tonight the Manager of Champions not only gets the WWF World Heavyweight Title within his stable but tonight you put an end to the myth that is Andre the Giant. Are you ready? Big John Studd Crush Andre! The Grand Wizard He's ready. ------ A video began to play showing the feud between Andre the Giant and Big John Studd, beginning with the Body Slam Challenge by Studd and the Grand Wizard leading up to tonight's match within the Steel Cage! ------ vs. Steel Cage Match Andre the Giant vs. Big John Studd This was your standard big man match that everyone could expect from these two. The Grand Wizard stood outside the ring cheering on Big John Studd when Studd had the advantage, ramming Andre's head against the steel of the cage. The cage has been reinforced specifically for this match. A big boot from Studd brought Andre down and Studd made the cover... 1... 2... Kickout! Andre kicked out of the big boot! Studd maintained the advantage for several minutes before the crowd got into the match, backing Andre. Andre began to fight back, keeping Studd from ramming his head into the cage and instead rammed Studd's head into the cage! He took Studd to each side, ramming Studd into the cage again and again! then he pointed toward the Grand Wizard and made a body slam motion! He kicked Studd in the gut and used all his might, picking up Big John Studd and slamming him down in the center of the ring! Andre bounced off the ropes and nailed the big Butt Drop! 1... 2... 3!!!! Andre wins! Andre wins! Winner: Andre the Giant Match Time: 9:35 Match Rating: C+ Following the ending, Andre got to his feet and celebrated inside the ring while the Grand Wizard was allowed in to check on Big John Studd. Referee Dick Kroll took the briefcase from the Grand Wizard of Wrestling and handed it to Andre! Andre held it up to cheers from the crowd but was nailed from behind by Big John Studd! Studd went right after Andre's knee, knocking the large man down to boos! Studd took the briefcase and smashed it against Andre's head, busting him open! What a poor sport! ------ In an obviously pre-taped interview, the Grand Wizard is shown standing side by side with the Masked Superstar on the Titantron. The Grand Wizard In just a few moments my dream will be realized. The Manager of Champions will once again have a Champion within his grasp. Tonight, Bob Backlund your reign within the WWF will be OVER! ------ A video begins to play showing the history between the Grand Wizard and Bob Backlund, focusing in on the Masked Superstar and his battles with Backlund. ------ vs. Steel Cage Match WWF World Heavyweight Title Match If Masked Superstar loses, he must unmask! Bob Backlund vs. The Masked Superstar And it's main event time! The crowd is really into this match between Backlund and the Masked Superstar. Of course, the Grand Wizard is at ringside for this encounter. Backlund started off fast with some technical wrestling holds keeping the Masked Superstar off guard. But after the first few minutes, the Masked Superstar gave Backlund a shot to the gut and began his own advantage, focusing on the upper back and neck of Backlund. He locked Backlund into an abdominal stretch for several minutes while referee Dick Woehrle asked Backlund if he gave up or not. Of course Backlund would not give in. He got the crowd into it on his side and was able to hip toss the Masked Superstar to the mat! Both men lie on the ground, winded. The crowd started to get behind Backlund, cheering and chanting his name as both men started to get to their feet. Backlund charged the Masked Superstar and Superstar pulled the referee into the way! Down goes the referee with a clothesline from Backlund. Backlund can't believe it and checks on the referee as the Masked Superstar gets to his feet. The Masked Superstar slips behind Backlund and locks in a Cobra Clutch! Backlund struggles and reverses it into the Cross Face Chicken Wing! The crowd cheers as Backlund holds onto it, falling back on the mat. After several minutes Superstar is nodding his head that he gives up but there is no referee to count the submission! Backlund releases the hold and goes over to check on the official while the Grand Wizard slips something in to the Masked Superstar! Backlund goes back to the Masked Superstar and picks him up for that Atomic Spinecrusher! He lifts Superstar up and Superstar catches him with a punch to the face! Backlund falls to the mat with Superstar on top. No! Not this way! 1... 2... 3!!! We have a NEW WWF World Champion! Winner: The Masked Superstar Match Time: 14:44 Match Rating: B The Grand Wizard moves into the ring with the belt and hands it to the Masked Superstar! The Masked Superstar is helped to his feet, holding the belt. He turns and looks toward Backlund and smashes him in the face with the belt! He stomps on Backlund and then drops a knee across the throat! The Masked Superstar rises to his feet and holds the title belt up high as the show finishes. What a Summerslam! Final Rating: C+

WWF Championship Wrestling Sunday, Week 4, July 1983 Fitzgerald Field House Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Attendance: 4,806 The show opens up inside the Fitzgerald Field House with a nearly sold-out crowd going wild as they get ready for some WWF action! The attention turns to the entranceway as the crowd boos while the Grand Wizard leads out the NEW WWF World Heavyweight Champion the Masked Superstar! They move into the ring and the Grand Wizard is handed a microphone by Howard Finkel. The Grand Wizard Last night each and every one of you fans were expecting my Superstar to be forced to remove his mask but that didn't happen. That didn't happen because under the guidance of the Manager of Champions the Grand Wizard of Wrestling, the Masked Superstar became the NEW World Wrestling Federation World Heavyweight Champion. And he did it without my help. He did it on his own. He took out Bob Backlund with one punch. As a matter of fact, let's see it again just how the Masked Superstar won the WWF Title. A video replay plays on the Titan-Tron and for the fans at home. The replay is slightly twisted in a way that doesn't show the weapon on the Masked Superstar's hand. A single punch and a pinfall and the Masked Superstar wins the WWF World Title. Back to tonight... The Grand Wizard I think he deserves a round of applause for that wonderful victory! HOLD ON JUST A MINUTE! The crowd cheers as Bob Backlund steps out from the back and heads right to the ring, sliding inside and getting up in the Masked Superstar's face. Bob Backlund Are you trying to tell these fans that you won on your own merit, Superstar? Generally I'm not one to complain. If someone beats me fair and square in the middle of the ring then they beat me and I take the loss gracefully. I cannot, however, accept the way that I lost last night. So what I propose is that right here in Pittsburgh you put the title on the line against me in a rematch from Summerslam winner takes all! The Grand Wizard is shaking his head 'no' when the Masked Superstar looks down to the microphone. The Masked Superstar I accept! The crowd cheers as it looks like tonight we are going to have a title rematch for the WWF World Heavyweight Title! What an opening to the show! ------ vs. Non-Title Pedro Morales vs. Johnny Rodz Mr. Unpredictable with a chance to really shine and rise in the rankings as he goes one on one with the new Intercontinental Champion in Pedro Morales. But Morales was dominant in his first match with the belt, getting a solid pinfall victory following a Knee Drop Backbreaker. Winner: Pedro Morales Match Time: 3:48 Match Rating: C- Following the match, though, he was attacked from behind by Big John Studd! Studd sent him into the corner and then hit an avalanche in the corner before motioning to his waist that he wants the belt, smiling as he walked away from an obviously hurt Morales. ------ The focus turns to the Titan-Tron where Ivan Koloff is shown standing in front of a generic background with Colonel Ninotchka and that chain wrapped over his shoulders. Ivan Koloff Ninotchka, I can't believe it! That filthy American put his hands on me and tried to put his hands on you! Hulk Hogan tried to attack you Ninotchka, a woman. But the referee had to stop the match. The American referee did not disqualify Hogan for attacking my manager Ninotchka. Hogan, next time we meet, we should have Russian referee or Iranian referee, then maybe referee won't be so blind! Tell him, Ninotchka. Colonel Ninotchka Hogan, if you dare place your hands on Colonel Ninotchka, you will be sorry. I may be woman but I am far from helpless. Hogan, my man Ivan Koloff here, will make you sorry you ever came to World Wrestling Federation. From now on, THAT is his job. And you will be sorry because Russian Bear says so. ------ vs. Cobra Corps vs. Boat and Blood An excellent tag team encounter with these four men reliving a feud from some old, forgotten promotion. There seemed to be some bad blood between the two teams as Jay Youngblood truly got battered early on but once he tagged in the Dragon it was some domination for Ricky Steamboat. Jay Youngblood kept Sgt. Slaughter from getting inside the ring as Steamboat leapt from the top turnbuckles and hit Kernodle with the Flying Cross Body for the victory! Winners: Boat and Blood Match Time: 4:38 Match Rating: C+ Boat and Blood slid out of the ring and left as Sgt. Slaughter attended to Don Kernodle. Slaughter helped Kernodle out of the ring and they walked toward the back when the Iron Sheik and Colonel Ninotchka came out. A staredown ensued between the three men and the women as they passed each other in opposite directions. vs. The Iron Sheik vs. Jose Gonzalez Gonzalez was making a bit of a debut here tonight as he went one on one with the Iron Sheik. It wasn't a good match to make his debut though as he was thoroughly dominated by the Iranian wrestler. The Iron Sheik raked at Gonzalez's face and body slammed him before locking on that dreaded Camel Clutch! It only took a few moments for Gonzalez to give up! Winner: The Iron Sheik Match Time: 2:39 Match Rating: C- After the bell sounded, the Iron Sheik would NOT let go of the hold! He set back even more and cinched the hold in even tighter at the request of Colonel Ninotchka! Referee Dick Woehrle tried to force him to let go but he wouldn't do it! Finally, half the locker room came out and eventually got him to break the hold. What a dastardly move by the Iron Sheik! ------ The attention finally turned to Vince McMahon and Gorilla Monsoon in the announce booth. Vince McMahon Ladies and Gentlemen, what a night of action we have seen so far! Gorilla Monsoon And we still have two major matches to go tonight, including a defense of the WWF World Heavyweight Title! Vince McMahon Indeed we do, Gorilla. But I have just been informed that in about 2 weeks time we will be seeing another major match as the Russian Bear Ivan Koloff will take on the Immortal Hulk Hogan at an arena near you! Gorilla Monsoon What a match, Vince! It's Russia against the U.S.A. all over again! But without further adue let's head back up to the ring for our next bout! ------ vs. Ray Stevens vs. Tito Santana A veteran versus a young up and comer. Their differences in style made for an awkward bout with the crowd slightly turning on Tito Santana. It was a pretty good bout for the main event as it went back and forth with Stevens nearly pulling off the victory but Santana came back and hit the pinfall following a Flying Forearm Smash. Winner: Tito Santana Match Time: 4:02 Match Rating: C- ------ A video began to play upon the Titan-Tron featuring the Wild Samoans! The Samoans were knocking down trees and banging coconuts over their heads, proving just how tough they are! At the end, Captain Lou Albano stood in front of the camera. Lou Albano Captain Lou here! Everyone has seen just how tough my Wild Samoans are! There isn't a team within the World Wrestling Federation that can beat them with their newfound ferocity. Soul Patrol, enjoy warming up those belts because soon they will be within the hands of the Samoans once more! ------ vs. WWF World Heavyweight Title Match The Masked Superstar vs. Bob Backlund The Masked Superstar was, of course, accompanied to the ring by the Grand Wizard of Wrestling for this title defense against the former Champion Bob Backlund. This match wasn't held inside a steel cage like last night's match. Backlund moved quickly in on the Masked Superstar with some double leg takedowns and some suplexes to start the match off strong with the crowd getting excited. He made some quick covers on the Masked Superstar and got a two count with the Grand Wizard yelling at referee Dick Woehrle that he's counting too fast. The Masked Superstar slipped out of the ring to break up the momentum and once he slid back inside he began taking the advantage. He raked the face of the straight-laced Backlund and used a well-placed elbow to the gut and then a kneelift to get a two count as Backlund somehow kicked out. The Masked Superstar remained on the attack, though, tossing Backlund through the ropes and distracting the referee so that the Grand Wizard could nail Backlund with his cane! Backlund made it back in the ring before the ten count and the Masked Superstar whipped Backlund into the ropes and locked on a sleeperhold! The crowd cheered for Backlund as that hold was cinched on and Backlund began fading. The referee looked to his arm and raised it once... fell.... twice... fell... three times... fe- No, WAIT! He held it up! Backlund begins fighting back, using the cheering and clapping of the fans to rally to his feet! He smacks the Masked Superstar in the gut with an elbow and then dropped him with a back drop to the mat! Both men lie on the mat with the fans rallying behind the former Champ. At about three, both men began stirring. At seven, they were on their knees slugging it out! Backlund started to get the better of it! They both got to their feet and Backlund ducked a punch that spun the Masked Superstar around! Backlund dropped the Masked Superstar with a German Suplex and then rallied the crowd as he crouched, getting set up for the Cross Face Chicken Wing! The Grand Wizard hops up on the apron and Backlund rushes over toward him, making the Grand Wizard jump back down. But as Backlund turns around, the Masked Superstar is up! The Masked Superstar kicks Backlund in the gut and locks in the Superstar Neckbreaker, making the cover... 1... 2... 3!!! The Masked Superstar picks up the title defense! Winner: The Masked Superstar Match Time: 9:58 Match Rating: B- The Masked Superstar slips back out to the Grand Wizard with the title intact and Backlund is slow to move toward his feet in the ring when he gets blindsided! Backlund is knocked to the mat with a clothesline and then lifted in a military press slam and sent violently to the ground! The attacker places a foot over him and flexes. Who is the attacker? We're out of time! Tune in next week to find out! Final Rating: C TV Rating: 1.57

WWF Championship Wrestling Sunday, Week 1, August 1983 Memorial Hall Joplin, Missouri Attendance: 962 The show opens to a chorus of boos as Bobby the Brain Heenan leads the Road Warrior down to the ring! They slide inside the ring and Heenan is handed a microphone. Bobby Heenan Listen up all you humanoids out there in tv land. Last week, my Road Warrior made an impact. He came out here and took down the man that you all idolize. He took down Bob Backlund in front of each and every one of you humanoids. And he can do it again any time, any place, any day! Bob Backlund is a former WWF Champion. So doesn't that mean my Road Warrior deserves a shot? It doesn't matter who the Champion is. Masked Superstar? Give me a break. My Road Warrior doesn't NEED to hide a behind a mask. Pedro Morales? Don Muraco? My Road Warrior will go through each and every superstar here in the World Wrestling Federation until he gets his shot. Ware The in-ring portion of the show begins with the high flying Fantastics taking on Beautiful Bobby Eaton and the Birdman Koko B. Ware. This was a good high-flying contest between four fast-paced wrestlers. It was actually a pretty open match for the majority of the contest with the crowd really getting behind Tommy Rogers and Bobby Fulton. But in the end it was Eaton with an Alabama Jam on Fulton that picked up the victory. Winners: Eaton and Ware Match Time: 3:55 Match Rating: D+ ------ vs. Tito Santana vs. Samula In-Ring action continued rolling on as the crowd cheered when Tito Santana came down to the ring. Captain Lou Albano led Samula down to the ring for this short contest that Santana dominated. The crowd was disappointed not to see a competitive contest but Santana kept them happy by coming away with a pinfall following a Flying Forearm Smash. Winner: Tito Santana Match Time: 1:39 Match Rating: E+ ------ The attention turns toward the announce booth and Vince and Gorilla. Vince McMahon Some excellent wrestling so far, Gorilla, and we're just getting started here tonight. Gorilla Monsoon Yes, we are, Vince. And as a matter of fact it looks like we're going to be joined out here at ringside by none other than Sgt. Slaughter! Slaughter appears on-screen, taking a microphone. Sgt. Slaughter Atten-hut pukes! I came out here tonight to talk about what happened last week with the Iron Sheik and what he did to Gonzalez. I think it's a disgrace when someone from another country can come in here to the World Wrestling Federation and think they can injure our superstars. Iron Sheik, you are nothing but a Soviet puke! Now, what is this? The attention turns when Colonel Ninotchka walks out toward the announce booth! The Colonel takes a microphone. Colonel Ninotchka Sgt. Slaughter, how dare you call my Iron Sheik a puke. What is puke is this country and this infection that you all dare call freedom. Mother Russia would never give herself over to prostitutes and gangsters the way this country has done. The Soviet Union is a flagship for the way that things should be done. You could learn a lot from the Iron Sheik. Sgt. Slaughter I could learn how to hide behind the skirt of a woman. Is that it? You are lucky that I would never strike a woman. My mother taught me better than that. But you give your Iron Sheik a message from me. When it comes right down to it, the U.S.A. is not going to just roll over for Russia and if he wants to come against a true American then he can face Sgt. Slaughter. Now you're DISMISSED! ------ vs. Big John Studd vs. Tony Garea The veteran Garea was already in the ring when Big John Studd was lead out by the Grand Wizard of Wrestling. Vince and Gorilla talked first about Sgt. Slaughter and the Iron Sheik and then got into Studd's challenge for the Intercontinental title against Pedro Morales. Inside the ring, Studd dominated Garea and finished the match with a Bear Hug to get the submission. Winner: Big John Studd Match Time: 3:52 Match Rating: D- ------ And a video began on the Titan-Tron showing the Immortal Hulk Hogan in front of a WWF background. Hulk Hogan Well, you know something, Hulkamaniacs? This big dude Ivan Koloff thinks he's so bad. He thinks that the Soviet Union can outwrestle the Hulkster. But he and that low-down evil, dirty Colonel Ninotchka are forgetting something, dudes. They are forgetting about the power of all these American Hulkamaniacs. They are forgetting about the vitamins, the training and saying their prayers. I know that that the big Hulkamaniac in the sky is looking down on me, brother. I know he's watching Hulk Hogan with pride in his eyes as the Hulkster fights for and defends the United States of America, dude. Ivan Koloff, at the end of the month, you're going to be stepping back inside the ring with the Hulkster and you've already tasted the power of Hulkamania and all my Hulkamaniacs once, dude. Next time, it's going to devour you, brother. And you have to ask yourself one simple question going into our match: whatcha gonna do? That's right, brother. Whatcha gonna do when the power of the largest arms in the world and the power of all these Hulkamaniacs runs wild over you? ------ vs. The Wild Samoans vs. Frankie Williams and Salvatore Bellomo Captain Lou leads the Wild Samoans to the ring, hoping that they can do better than their counterpart in Samula did earlier in the evening. The crowd didn't really care so much for the match in general as the Samoans dominated, much to the smiling face of Captain Lou Albano on the outside. Afa put Frankie Williams away with a Samoan Drop. Winners: The Wild Samoans Match Time: 4:34 Match Rating: E+ Following the match, Captain Lou came in and celebrated with his team and then sent the Savages back after Williams and Bellomo! They set Bellomo up and delivered the Samoan Splash from the corner as the crowd booed. But those boos turned into cheers as the Strongbows came running out and cleared the ring! Chief Jay and Jules, former WWF World Tag Team Champions, came out and really made the save for Williams and Bellomo! Captain Lou and the Samoans do NOT look happy! ------ vs. Light Heavyweight Title Match Eddie Gilbert vs. Tim Horner Hot Stuff's first title defense since winning the belt comes against the Candyman Tim Horner. This was a bit of a fast-paced bout between the two with Gilbert looking to be more grounded against the faster Horner. Horner made a mistake early and it cost him as he was knocked off the top turnbuckle and then dropped into the Hot Shot! Gilbert covered him and hooked a leg, getting the three count and a successful title defense. Winner: Eddie Gilbert Match Time: 2:55 Match Rating: E+ ------ Within a locker room area, Lord Alfred Hayes is seen standing by with Superstar Billy Graham. Lord Alfred Hayes Hello everyone, Lord Alfred Hayes here and I am backstage with Superstar Billy Graham. Billy, in just a few moments, you will be stepping into the ring to take on one half of the WWF World Tag Team Champions Tony Atlas. Your thoughts on this momentous match? Superstar Billy Graham I'll tell it to you like this, Alfred: Everyone thinks that Mr. U.S.A. Tony Atlas is one of the strongest, toughest athletes to ever compete within the WWF. Tonight, I show that to be a falsehood as I dispose of him in record time. This wrestling ring tonight is going to become a volcano erupting with charisma, erupting with power, erupting with the Superstar Billy Graham and Tony Atlas. Tony, the Superstar is coming for your gold. I am going to destroy you tonight. I am going to wrap my arms around you in my Superstar Bear Hug and gonna make you scream 'Superstar, you ARE the man of the hour, the man with the power, too SWEEEEEET to be sour.' And you are going to bleed with the power of the Superstar! Lord Alfred Hayes Thank you, Superstar. Good luck in your match tonight. Let's head back up to ringside with Howard Finkel. ------ vs. Superstar Billy Graham vs. Tony Atlas Each man was accompanied to the ring by his tag team partner: Jesse Ventura and Rocky Johnson respectively. The match began with a test of strength that Superstar began to win and then the crowd fired up Tony Atlas and he began coming back before the Superstar kicked him in the gut and went for the Bear Hug early but Atlas kneed him a couple of times to break that quickly. Atlas picked up the Superstar and body slammed him to the mat, bouncing off the ropes and dropping an elbow, getting a two count. The WWF World Tag Team Champion locked an armbar on the Superstar and Graham raked his eyes to break the hold before whipping him hard across the ring and into the corner! Graham came running in right against the boot of Atlas! Back and forth the match went with neither man gaining momentum for very long until the Superstar tossed Atlas outside the ring! Graham distracted the referee while Jesse Ventura ran Atlas into the ringpost and then slid him back inside the ring! Rocky Johnson came around and got into a fight with Ventura on the outside, distracting the official! Graham pulled up Atlas and nailed him with a Karate Thrust to the Throat! He made a cover and the referee turned around... 1... 2... 3!!! The Superstar wins the match! Winner: Superstar Billy Graham Match Time: 5:34 Match Rating: C- Following the match, Graham went outside to help his partner by grabbing Rocky Johnson's arms and holding him open but Johnson ducked and a Ventura clothesline struck the Superstar! Atlas came outside the ring slowly and a brawl erupted between all four men as Vince and Gorilla shouted that we are out of time! Final Rating: D+ TV Rating: 1.35
