TEW 108: I Can Be A Booker!?

Recommended Posts

*checks watch*

Hmmm. No teacher yet.

It's a wonder folks haven't invoked the five-minute rule yet....

Hey, Friday isn't even over yet! :o

Seriously though I'm almost finished with the update. Taking me a little longer because of how I am reporting the results. Unfortunately that is the downside of asking for tag team or a feud, you really can't copy and paste the results like you would for a single choice question.

Well Mr. Heathly, that took the interest off me going every day here and sleeping in class when you told us that we'll be learning about the New York 101!!!

Seriously though I would like to learn how to book NY!

Good to know. NYCW is without a doubt my favorite promotion and I really wanted to do something with the promotion before 2010 comes out.

Now to get back to finishing up the update.

Oh, I understand, believe me. Was just trying to bump the topic and get folks ready for it tonight.

Chapter #1

The 0/0/0 Promotion or How I Learn To Love Dusty Bin

Review of Tournament Assessement & Preview of Wrestling For Shoes

Role Call (33*): Astil, AzzMartin, bak42, benjacko, BHK1978, dkohn, edenborn, Hyde Hill, Karl Kitsch, Kovic, Marcel Fromage, midnightnick, MrOnu, My Name is Not..., Nedew, pate, Phantom Stranger, randomfreeze, ReapeR, SeanMcFly, Self, ShadowedFlames, Sonfaro, TDubTNA, Teh_Showtime, TheStroke7, Truth, Tweek It, Unregistered, Waghlon, WeeMan, Zeel1

* = I accidently didn't have the name field require in the beginning and before I noticed my mistake someone didn't leave their name.

The results of the assessment are in and I've got to say that you people never cease to amaze me with your repsonses. When I created the assessement I threw in the two optional questions at the last second thinking a couple of might be offering a more detailed opinion anyway. Imgaine my surprise when 73% of you guys wrote in tag team names and 76% of you gave reasoning for the non-title feud. And that's not counting the people who gave addition content in the comment/suggestion boxes. So thank you again for responding to these assessments like you had. Without your responses, this diary would be a hell of a lot more boring.

Now on with the results...

Name Votes	Pct
Chris Flynn 0	0.00%

Stretch The Chicken Boy	1	3.00%
Tempest Appleby 2	6.10%
Warren Technique	8	24.20%

Name Votes	Pct
Chris Flynn 1	3.00%

After taking a look at what you guys would choose for your tournament final, I can't really say that I am too surprised at the findings. As a group it's pretty easy to say that you guys see Davis Wayne Newton as the top guy of the company. And I really can't argue with you guys on that fact. The man is one of the most talented workers in the game (especially for his age) and doesn't have an overness gap to overcome like he would in most other promotions. I'm also not really surprised to see that there is almost a 50/50 split on whether or not DWN should be winning the title or not, seeing as there was a small decision about it already in this thread. For people that like to just read the "official" updates, the big question facing most people when choosing whether or not to give the title to Newton is as follows: Do you feel comfortable in giving the title to a wrestler that has a more than reasonable chance at leaving the company for greener pastures?

Of course as with all polls there are also some interesting choices as well. And I've got to say that I am a little stunned to that that the same amount of people picked DeMento to win it all as they did Tempest Appleby (and more people choose DeMento over Tempest as the runner up). Not to mention that someone picked Lion Heart and Stretch as well. As I am always going to say in situations like this, it's your game and as long as you don't get fired or the promotion doesn't go under it doesn't matter how you play the game as long as you are having fun. That said I would caution against putting your cheap workers over the guys you are paying $400+ to, at least in the beginning anyway.

Chris Flynn & Eric Blackley - Flynn and BLackley, Professional Wrestlers At Large (Karl Kitsch), (TDubTNA)

Chris Flynn & Jeremy Jazz - "CYG" AKA- Canadian Young Gunns (The Stroke7)

Randy Maxx & Warren Technique - Maximum Technique (Phantom Stranger)

Raphael & Tempest Appleby - Rotten To The Core (ReapeR)

Stretch The Chicken Boy & Tempest Appleby - Thanksgiving Dinner ("No Response")

Stretch The Chicken Boy & Tempest Appleby - (dkohn)

Besides some of you picking a face/heel tag team (The divide might be medium, however I'm not sure a team like that would work out without some sort of reason), there isn't really anything in the results that I would consider illogical. However, I have to laugh at just how many people want to see a DeMento and Stretch The Chicken Boy tag team. And of course there are the awesome tag team names. Don't be surprised if you see one or two of them end up being used in this chapter.

Note: Not that it's really important, but someone did choose the tag team I ended up going with as WCCW's first official tag team.

Chris Flynn & Davis Wayne Newton - (Tweek It)

Chris Flynn & Jermey Jazz - ("No Response")

Chris Flynn & Raphael - (benjacko)

Chris Flynn & Stretch The Chicken Boy - (bak42)

Raphael & Warren Technique - (TDubTNA), (Karl Kitsch), (Teh_Showtime)

Stretch The Chicken Boy & Tempest Appleby - (Nedew), (WeeMan)

Stretch The Chicken Boy & Warren Technique - (Marcel Fromage)

Tempest Appleby & Warren Technique - (Zeel 1), (AzzMartin), (TheStroke7), (randomfreeze)

Reasons For Feuds: One worker causing the other to lose their tournament match - (Truth), (Hyde Hill), (Phantom Stranger); Completely different characters - (Zeel1), (Astil), (Nedew), (Marcel Fromage), (midnightnick), (WeeMan); Just Because - (Kovic), (BHK1978), (ReapeR), (Waghlon); To give the rub to the lesser worker - (Sonfaro); Quality Matches/Other Main Eventers - (MrOnu), (TheStroke7), (SeanMcFly); Similar Skillset - (ShadowedFlames); Insult (Random & Otherwise) (ex: Looks at person funny, accidently spills coffee on the other worker) - (benjacko), (bak42), (randomfreeze), (Karl Kitsch), (edenborn); Over a female(s) - ("No Response"), (Self)

Personal Favorite Reasoning: "Chickens and Apples. Two popular foods, vehemently defended by their namesakes. But which is better? There's only one way to find out. FIIIIIIIIIGHT!" - (Nedew)

Besides the few same alignment feuds and one person who misread the question and answered the same as his choices for the IC champion and the runner up, I've got to say that I agree with most of the choices here, especially when you add in the reasoning for the matchups. There is a good variety of reasons too, ranging from the very logical "You interfered in my match so I want revenge" to the amazingly random of "Kit Kat Bars" (credit goes to randomfreeze).

Note: Much like the tag team results, one person also had the same idea did in terms which two characters to choose. Which two did I pick? Well that's something that you are just going to have to wait and find out.

This is the part of the update where I usually preview the upcoming card. However, since the promotion is brand new there isn't really that much to talk about. So instead I'll answer two questions that I thought needed to be answered before moving on.

Why the Intercontinental Championship?

I could give a couple of reasons choosing to have the top title in WCCW being the Intercontinental title from thinking that the promotion isn't really big enough or the roster isn't diverse enough to warrant the company calling their title a world title. However, the real is a lot simpler than that. I liked the ReapeR's render of the WCCW IC title far better than the World title. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. That said, after deciding to go with the IC title I made sure that I traded for a couple of real Mexican luchadors (Amo and Zonk) to at least make it look like the promotion was trying to justify the title's name.

BTW, I fully realize that Mexico is not apart of South America and that at best this title should be called the North American title. It's not my fault that the person who requested the titles didn't want a NA title and Adam didn't create a couple of wrestlers from South America that I could use for this diary. Blame them, not me! :p Besides at least my attempt is better than WWE's creation of their IC title. It still boggles my mind that the fans actually bought that Patterson's "win" in Rio.

Why "Wrestling For Shoes"?

Something tells me that this is something that you probably wanted to know. Well anyone that has played or read a 0/0/0 game knows that you get a very low amount of fans coming to your show. While some people like to rationalize this by giving a fed a backyard setting, I decided to go in a different direction for this diary.

When I came up with the idea I was trying to get around the fact that the promotion has a couple of sponsors from the very beginning even though there is no fan base. With that in mind I figured out that you could probably get a good amount of sponsors without some sort of history if it was to promote a charity event. It would also reason away why the wrestling show was only going to be running for an hour since it wouldn't be the only thing going on that day. It also helped that I played a good deal out of "The Fall" and "After The Fall" mods for TEW 2007, which gave me a snappy name for the events (thanks shamelessposer for creating the idea in the first place).

Up Next: It took awhile, but up next is our very first WCCW event, WCCW Wrestling For Shoes. See you guys Monday.

Backstage Interview

Marty Papin: Marty Papin here with Warren Technique after his victory over Jeremy Jazz. Warren, how are you feeling?

Warren Technique: How do I feel? I feel like a joke! When I agreed to a contract with WCCW I thought I was joining a real promotion, not some side show at some charity event.

Marty Papin: To be fair Mr. Warren, WCCW is the one putting on the charity event...

Post-Match

After winning the match, Davis Wayne Newton takes the opportunity to celebrating his win with the fans (personally giving each one a high five). Just as he's about to exit through the makeshift entrance ramp, a figure blindsides The Triple Threat with a huge double axe handle strike. Coming out from the back is none other than the man that beat Lion Heart earlier in the night, DeMento. The masked brawler continues his assault and is joined by a recovered Jerry Martin. After their brutal assault, Jerry Martin raises the hand of Demento and starts to laugh manically as the duo start over an unconscious Davis Wayne Newton.

Rating: E+

Overall Rating: D-

(Popularity Increased)

Up Next (Tuesday, November 17th, 2009): We'll be going over the happenings of WCCW such as finances and worker news (skill, pop, and match updates), everyone's predictions (as well as a little added commentary from me about the show), and previewing the next card "Wrestling For Socks." As for the rest of the world, I think I will wait to showcase such information till the end of the chapter. That way I can give everyone the information they want without it getting in the way of our focus, WCCW. And if you think of something else you want to see please by all means say so through the tread, pm, or in the comments box in a future assessment.

Note: Some of you might be wondering why I decided to forgo with match write ups. I went in this direction because even though I am writing out full fledged storylines for my wrestlers (something that will be seen in full display in the 2nd chapter), the main goal of the diary is to bring new players into the C-Verse and/or different types of promotions as well as bring in discussion from veterans. And as much as entertaining as write ups can be, at the same time they can also be a bit intimidating for newer readers.

Some of you might not be into this set up and that's perfectly fine. That's the beauty of this forum. There is so much variety in terms of product, mods, style, and production that pretty much everyone can find something that they can connect with and follow.

Jeremy needed DeMento to attack *BEFORE* the match was over. Silly heels! Dusty Bin totally Shockmastered that sneak attack!

And can someone tell me how Lion Heart's rumble skills improved in an F rated match?

Does that mean he was taught how to close his hand into a fist? Less scratching, more punching Lion-y.

Chapter #1

The 0/0/0 Promotion or How I Learn To Love Dusty Bin

Review of Wrestling For Shoes and the month of January and Preview of Wrestling For Socks

Role Call (22): AzzMartin, bak42, benjacko, BHK1978, edenborn, Hyde Hill, KarlKitsch, midnightnick, My Name is Not..., Nedew, Phantom Stranger, ReapeR, SeanMcFly, ShadowedFlames, Sonfaro, TDubTNA, The Mystery, TheStroke7, Truth, Waghlon, WeeMan, xDRMx, Zeel1

One event is finally in the books and four men have advanced to the Quarter Finals of the WCCW Intercontinental Championship Tournament. The lucky four were Amo Del Gato, forum favorite DeMento, Warren Technique, and Davis Wayne Newton. Before talking about the event itself for a little bit, let's go over your predictions for Wrestling For Shoes.

Prediction Results for WCCW Wrestling For Shoes

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/foolinc/TEW108/goldstar.png: TheStroke7, TDubTNA, benjacko, Nedew, Truth, xDRMx, Zeel1, Sonfaro, edenborn, KarlKitsch, ReapeR, Hyde Hill, Phantom Stranger

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/foolinc/TEW108/silverstar.png: BHK1978, Waghlon, bak42, WeeMan, My Name is Not..., AzzMartin, ShadowedFlames, SeanMcFly

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/foolinc/TEW108/bluestar.png: midnightnick, The Mystery

No you aren't seeing things, this diary will be using a star system just like most of us had in elementary school. The top predictors for each event will of course be receiving gold stars for their efforts while the next best "students" will be getting silver stars. And to not make the rest of the "class" feel left out, those not receiving gold or silver stars will be getting different colored stars for their participation. Today you guys get blue ones!

As for the predictions themselves, they were predictably similar in nature. Nearly everyone correctly predicted that Warren and DWN would make it past their opponent, though one person over thought the situation and had Warren drawing with Jeremy Jazz. It were the undercard matches of Del Gato/Stretch and DeMento/Lion Heart that got a good number of people in the end. And for good reason. Both matchups are between cheap workers that cost the same, so it really doesn't matter who goes on in the tournament mechanically. That said, I was a little confused to see Stretch get so few votes considering how you guys voted during the previous assessment.

Before moving on, I would like to go over one thing about the event that you may or may not have noticed. During the event I had both of my angles happen AFTER the workers in question had "debuted" in a match. This was done on purpose because, in general, workers that debut in angles tend to start off with less momentum than workers that debut in matches (especially in the case of main eventers). Of course this is really only a problem with lesser known workers. Please note that this problem becomes MUCH less serve as the wrestler gets more popular (since the starting momentum has something to do with the angle or match rating and a more popular worker will get a higher rating than a comparable worker that is lesser known).

With Wrestling For Shoes done and in the books, it's time to see how the show affected the promotion and its workers.

Looking back at the finances from my first show of my NEO diary, I can see exactly why are in debt right now. With $500 more dollars going to workers (thanks to there being no cheap choices for non-workers) and receiving just about the amount less sponsorship money, WCCW is "making" $1,000 dollars less than it's American counterpart. However what really killed us this month was the insanely low amount merchandise revenue and a relatively low amount of miscellaneous revenue that we received this month. This isn't the end of the world, but it does mean that we are going to have to lower workers expenses somehow if this keeps up.

In much happier news, Jeremy Jazz, Marty Papin, Warren Technique, and Davis Wayne Newton all gained enough popularity from the show to jump up a grade in popularity. Maybe more importantly is seeing just about the same number of people improving their skills with only one show. Sure they probably were very close to jumping grades at the beginning of the game, but it's still nice to see them increase none the less.

Finally five members of the WCCW roster had wrestling matches outside of WCCW in the month of January. Unfortunately, every single one of them were unable to pick up a victory. Better luck next time guys.

Up Next (Friday, November 20th): Tempest Appleby, Raphael, and the other half of the WCCW roster make their debuts as they fight for a chance to win the WCCW Intercontinental Championship at Wrestling For Socks.

*looks at ratings*

Poor, poor Jeremy.

He was this close..

Poor Jeremy? He got the improve technical skills, flying skills and performance skills notes. I'd say he did pretty damn well.

I'm guessing you mean Jerry, but maybe Martin thought he could win on his own or he thought DeMento would just get him DQed. Then again I really don't want to try and think about what Jerry Martin was thinking. The man doesn't look like he's all there. ;)

The match grade has nothing to do with people learning skills. I'm more shocked and confused that Dusty Bin taught something to someone.

Damn it! I missed that one! Damn real world making me late for my fake world assignments!

Yeah had comp trouble over the weekend so I didn't get to vote but I love the layout. Adding another TEW novel to read might be a bit much, I love the abbreviated style. Can't wait for the next lesson teach.

Don't worry about it. You guys forgetting cuts down on the number of star stickers I have to buy. ;)

Three questions:

1) PAR in the popularity gain means Prairies right? I just want to be sure.

2) Will we see the Chicken Boy in more dark matches due to his astounding skill gain this month?

3) May i suggest the honorable teacher takes Accounting 101: I Can Be A Bankrupter!?

1) Yes. "PAR" is my abbreviation for The Prairies.

2) Well I didn't have any dark matches in this diary because of the extra costs. However if I was going to play this game past our end point I would definitely use guys like Stretch and Jeremy Jazz in dark match time to see where their potential takes them.

3) I'll be talking about this in a couple of months (game time), but let's just say that I know what I'm doing. :p

[WCCW Intercontinental Championship Opening Round]

El Hijo Del Zonk defeated Randy Maxx in 7:43 by pinfall with a Zonk Bomb.

Post Match

After the match has ended, the fun loving Tempest Appleby gives a hand to his now former opponent, Jefferson Stardust, to his feet. After a moment of tension from a reasonable pissed Stardust (he did just lose a tournament match you know), Jefferson accepts Appleby's help and in a bit of a shock tells sound guy (aka guy with iPod) to play his . The two start to dance with the "crowd" when two blonde female fans join in on the fun. These women could or could not have look liked a lot like this.

Up Next (Monday, November 23rd, 2009): Just like last card we will be going over the happenings of this month as well as posting up the next assessment. Oh yeah I guess we have your predictions too. I probably would have stated that first but they were just so forgettable that it didn't cross my mind. ;)

Note: The Neptune Twins were not used in the post match dance angle (or else that rating would have been a lot better :)). I just added them last minute as a Easter Egg to anyone who enjoyed Startune Productions from my NEO diary.

Teacher, if I could show off some math - it occurs to me, that in the dancing angle, 2/5ths of the audience entered the ring.. :p

Ah, see this is where the beauty of the whole charity event thing is. There are obviously more than 5 people at the event as a whole. However since something like that would most likely be free, the 5 people that "attended" actually were 5 people that decided to "donate" $6 to the promotion to have the opportunity to sit where ever they wanted to.

If I was going full kayfabe I would have explained this in full.

As most of you probably figured out by seeing the results, you guys didn't do as well in predicating as you did last show. If that wasn't bad enough three of you were still able to correctly guess the card. Why is this a bad thing? Well the star system is graded on a curve. Please thanks ShadowedFlames, The Stroke7, and Zeel1 for the reason you have the color of star that you have.

Joking aside, while a good number of you guys differed from my choices, the only thing I need to is why Eric Blackley lost to Riley McManus. I admit that McManus isn't as talented as Amo and Zonk, but he's still a solid competitor for a promotion like ours. That said, it wasn't his talent level that made me go with Riley. I went in playing this game like I was playing a long term game and with the limited worker pool I needed backup plans in case of injuries and other unexpected hiccups that could happen down the road. Since I should have Blackley for a long while, I thought it was a better use of Riley's time here to at least get another match out of him before his trade window expired.

Match Results From Other Companies

Chris Flynn: 4C (Canadian Crusher defeated Chris Flynn - F+)

Davis Wayne Newton: 4C (Barry Kingman defeated Davis Wayne Newton - D+)

Jerry Martin: RPIW (Lion Heart defeated Jerry Martin - F)

Lion Heart: RIPW (Lion Heart defeated Jerry Martin - F), MAW (Jefferson Stardust defeated Lion Heart - F+)

Randy Maxx: MAW (Max Mayhem defeated Huey Cannonball - E-)

Raphael: RPIW (Lassana Makutsi defeated Raphael - E)

Warren Technique: MAW (The Masked Patriot defeated Warren Technique - D-)

And we go from one extreme to another with the finances. In my experience with these types of promotions getting $810 in merchandise is more than expected, but still reasonable. The miscellaneous revenue however is insane. I don't know if there was an impromptu hot dog eating contest, but I'm not going to complain. Thanks to that crazy revenue WCCW has a positive balance and I get to run another event or two before taking a month off to keep the company from going bankrupt.

In terms of skill and pop increases this month wasn't as good as last month's but as long as we keep improving each show it's all good. We also got our first win outside of WCCW. Congrats to Lion Heart for beating Jerry Martin… Ok so it kind of doesn't count since it was against someone on our roster, but screw it. It's party time!

Up Next (Wednesday, November 25th, 2009): Eight wrestlers are left in the WCCW Intercontinental Championship tournament and at Wrestling For Pants that number is going to be cut in half as this event will host all four Quarter-Final matches.

Bonus Update: Spurned on by a tidal wave of inspiration, I ended up playing through all of chapter #2 (good because I am going to need a bit of planning time for the next chapter). Got to say that I am very happy with it, even if I made a few minor mistakes because I wasn't paying attention. Got a good number of curveballs from TEW (some good, some bad) too. Only had two of my planned matches for Gang Wars go through as is (and one was a backup match that was suppose to be done in the pre-show). Don't really want to spoil anything so I'll just stop here. See you Wednesday!
