D-Lyrium Posted August 21, 2016 Share Posted August 21, 2016 (I'm not as patient as Derek, spoilers below ) That was my first live WWE PPV in over 5 years, and holy crap was it amazing. Roode's entrance! Nakamura's entrance! All of the matches were at least 'good', even Billie Kay vs. Ember Moon was very watchable. For me the MOTN was the tag title match. Even Cory Graves couldn't ruin it. It was a fantastic return to late nights watching wrestling, for me. Loved it all. I'm totally down for an Aries/Itami feud, and hopefully we get Roode/Nakamura next too (if nothing else, that'd really piss Joe off in-character ). Ember Moon's debut was pretty good, love the finisher. Hope they don't move straight on to Moon/Asuka, because I like watching (but hate listening to!) Billie Kay. Bayley's clearly going to the main roster, so I don't have to listen to her sob story. This pleases me. Enjoyed the setup for an Itami/Aries feud and GTS! Jose is elevating a low-ceiling gimmick with enthusiam and stiff wrestling. Billie vs Ember - Solid match. I like Ember's look and moveset but I expected a grander entrance. Billie needs to start winning even if she has to cheat. Roode vs Almas - Solid match. Almas looked better. I'm happy Roode got a glorious entrance but his finisher looks weak. Gargano & Ciampa vs The Revival - My MOTN with a smart result. Bayley vs Asuka - Great match. I only wish Asuka had gone full heel. Bayley deserved her standing ovation. Nakamura vs Joe - Great match. I'm almost in shock that Nakamura won. I wonder if Joe is heading to the main roster soon. The live violin entrance gave me chills. Verdict: Another consistently good Takeover. It's awesome watching a PPV/Special where there's no need for weak filler matches. Yeah, Billie Kay vs Ember Moon was probably the weakest match on the card, and still was enjoyable to watch. I think the women's division still is in a bit of a dire state right now. If Bayley leaves now, who is going to challenge Asuka? Billie Kay does not look ready, and there's not really anybody else either. My guess is that we'll see some new signings soon, of the kind we've seen recently on the men's side - wrestlers ready to step into the action now, rather than prospects that need years to build. One thing about Andrade Almas. What kind of gimmick is that? What is he trying to be, and do they seriously think people are going to latch on to a guy that enters the room dressed like that? It just seems weird to me. He is an excellent wrestler, but it's almost like they're actively trying to avoid him building any hype. Or is it just me that's so out of touch? The tag team match was absolutely the match of the night, Gargano & Ciampa are stars in the making and it is hard to fathom that they've been around so long without people in the know seeing their potential. You have a champion and literally jobbers. There is not a single female on the roster I care about in NXT. He definitely used the Western Lariat and Crossface at different points.</p><p> </p><p> Joe absolutely should be called up right away. So should Bayley, and Nakamura (though that one won't be happening any time soon now that they've stuck the belt on him.) If that's how she consistently performs, I think they dropped the ball by having her on NXT. I'd have had her as a surprise champion for whatever women's title the end up putting on smackdown or have her a be a surprise to beat Sasha on Raw. She's one of few people in the women's division where every single thing she did had a purpose and she looked legit because of it.</p><p> </p><p> Watching Roode's entrance as we speak. Not sure what to think, but the crowd is eating it up.
