But Kane did come back wearing a mask and back then it wasn't as easy to load up wikipedia, search bray wyatt and realize that he was the fat dude in Nexus 2.0. Plus this isn't really about the ability of the performers but the douchyness of those fews guys who get the chants started. The same guys who what everything or ruin a serious Mark Henry promo by chanting sexual chocolate. They were doing the what thing to The Undertaker as well.

Curtis Axel got lucky because there is no way a crowd can start chanting Michael McGillicutty.

No. Never said that. I think that if he's not capable of making people forget about the past gimmick, he should pack and go home. Might sond cruel, but that's how it works. Kane is a good example. No one remembers Isaac Yankeem because Kane made a good work making sure they wouldn't.

Or possibly - wrestling fans were less noob-ish back then ;)

You have to at least give somebody a chance to make you forget the old character, tearing them to shreds the first time they are on "proper" TV seems more than a bit harsh imho.

No one said life was fair. Sorry, but it is what it is. I'm not saying i like the chants, and i wouldn't do them, but if he lives to his potential the chants will go away. If not, pack and go home, so to speak. Is the audience being hypocrit? Sure. But they paid tickets. They can chant whatever they want.

Edit: again, not saying i agree with the audience. But i get it.

Funny I actually never think of Kane as being Isaac Yankem. Oddly enough I always think of him from his Smokey Mountain gimmick as the Unabomb when he was in a tag team with Al Snow.

And why do they insist on using those lights in Sin Cara's matches? And what is his deal? Too dumb to learn english (its been 2 years, come on) or he simply doesn't care at all? Cause being mute forever will certainly make his career!

There is no reason to have the lights as Sin Cara has already adapted fairly well to the match the WWE style wrestlers and hasn't botched in quite a while.

He probably has learned English well enough to speak and give interview but not to give live promos. I mean english isn't that hard a language to learn and considering how interwined the Mexican and American cultures are there is really no reason he should not have an understanding of english.

I am not so sure about that, when Demolition first debuted the original Smash had to be replaced because the fans would taunt him because they recognized him as Moondog Rex. So there have always been these types of fans.

I guess to a lesser extent you could look at Terry Taylor who was never able to live down the Red Rooster gimmick for the rest of his career. That one gimmick killed his career because the fans would never let it go.

I guess I look at 80's wrestling through rose-tinted glasses a little bit. I kind of miss the days before I discovered wrestling gossip sites, shoot interviews etc. I long to have back the idea of Hogan eating his vitamins!

But i'm focusing on the negative - the fans reaction might have been irritating, but Bray's promo before they hit the ring was absolute money. Loved the entrance too with the lantern and I think Kane will help put them over. I'd like to see Kane return to a slightly meaner version and maybe this will be the spark.

I loved the way they brought Bray in last night (I normally do not watch the second or third hour of the show because there is always something better on TV but I did manage to catch his debut during a commercial break of what I was watching). I would also love to see Kane come back as a tougher version, the comedy gimmick was good and did lead to a renaissance in his career but it is time for him to come back as the evil Kane.</p><p> </p><p> You are right, someone should not have their past gimmicks held against them.</p>

In the same way there are career making moments, there are also career killing ones. Maybe the Husky Harris gimmick was one of those moments, but hopefully not. In these moments, it really doesn't matter how good a worker is or how many like him. Once you hit that "red rooster" point, there is no coming back. But i don´t think that is the case here. Crowds are easy to manipulate. All it takes is one guy that hates husky starting to scream his name, and a lot of people that don' t even remember that gimmick will start chanting too....like sheeps...oh the irony! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Also, am i the only one thinking that ryback will get involve on that whole Mcmahon-Helmsley 2.0 feud featuring Vickie Guerrero?</p>

<p>Anyone get the feeling Bryan won't win MITB? It seems too obvious. I actually think he'd benefit more from having to chase the title and win it clean. And who will take Kane's place, assuming he doesn't "recover" in time?</p><p> </p><p> On the chanting issue: I agree with SM82 that a good wrestler will make a gimmick work regardless. Look how long Cena put up with his mixed reaction before he started working it into his promos. Ryback has also done well enough in spite of the Goldberg chants. And as a heel Henry has managed to use the audience reactions to his advantage recently. I kind of feel the Albert chants hindered Tensai, though. So I'm actually more concerned about what the marks think about the chants and how annoying it is for me to hear them every show.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="shawn michaels 82" data-cite="shawn michaels 82" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>And why do they insist on using those lights in Sin Cara's matches? Bryan can claim number one contendership at the WWE Title just from his match results recently, he doesn't need MITB to be a credible challenger. Then again, the obvious choice usually is for the best.</p><p> </p><p> The chanting will only be an issue if it continues for months and or makes Bray screw up a promo or something. The gimmick is money and if they can make a lasting impression everything will be fine.</p><p> </p><p> I agree, I wonder if they just do it so he can see better or maybe someone really thinks it makes him unique and cool.</p>

<p>Man I really hate smart fans or whatever they are called now-a-days. I watched Westlemania this year at my cousins house and have been watching since with my son. We both been waiting for the Wyatt family and then they come on and they chant stupid shit. I was excited but it just left me annoyed.</p><p> </p><p>

I will not be watching Money in the bank since the WWE will be in Philly which is a "smart crowd". Hopefully the chanting doesn't continue next week.</p>

The night after Wrestlemania was a "smark" (smart mark.. thats the word you are looking for) crowd and was one of the best Raw shows in years. Same thing in Chicago for Payback. Smark crowd but they gave love when they needed to and I think the fans turned a good PPV into a pretty remarkable one. Of course, WWE booked those matches and builds extremely well and we all knew CM Punk was going to get Stone Cold pop. </p><p> </p><p> A smark crowd is good for annoying chants, but they also liven up a decent match. I get annoyed when people come in this very thread and tell me that the great match I just watched "sucked" because "The crowd wasn't into it". Sometimes, they're just sleepin man. Ive been watching wrestling long enough to know the difference between a great match with a dead crowd and a crappy match that put them to sleep. </p><p> </p><p> I don't understand the "Husky Harris" chants either. We get it. You know his old character. That's cool. You're still just being a jerk and disrupting the show. But I've read countless wrestling biographies and that crap is nothing new. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if Bray Wyatt went backstage that night and was told it was a good thing. If the crowd is reacting at all you're doing something right. I'd imagine he'd rather be booed out of the building but having the chants mess with you is a modern version of "booing" I think.</p><p> </p><p> But yea if this stuff annoys you avoid MITB. I live in philly so it doesn't insult me, but we're smarks. Particularly annoying ones too because of the indy history associated with the city. I find the hardcore philly wrestling audience to be a very mixed bag of fans. We'll get off our chairs and pop you to the sky if you're awesome. But we'll boo the hell out of you for no reason too. Also, I promise there will be multiple "Jonny Moxley!" and "Tyler Black!" chants. Cuz we're philly! We're so cool because we have alot of CZW and ROH shows that none of these children chanting have ever been to... but we know who these guys are damnit!</p>

So, does this mean that WWE were intelligent by first naming Curtis Axel Michael McGillywhatshisface?

According to rag sheets (I know, great source), Vince told Hennig family members when he got given the Mcwhatever gimmick that that there were plans to use him in a different capacity in the future which would link him to the family. When he got a gimmick change, no-one chanted his old gimmick name because... no-one could. Planned or luck?
