I feel this gimmick will allow him to be a little more cryptic and less straight forward and corny.
I just want to point out, the skull duster that Willow was wearing in that promo... I used for one of my characters in POBYW. I never 'debuted' exactly but I did one promo and one after match attack as the 80 year old "Sir Walter" in Ep 43 (the last show we ever did, like 2 years ago)

Damn you TNA, and your stealing of my stuff! ^_^

I've always hated the implied condescension of that joke. If I gave the impression that I thought Jaysin was engaging in wrestling geek snobbery, I apologize for that. It certainly was not my intent. All I wanted was to get Truly's back and back up his perception of the gimmick being new.

I've never been the world's largest Jeff Hardy fan. I like how he's adapted to his body's limitations as he got older. I feel like in his prime, he was the quintessential "spot monkey" with good storytelling ability and a willingness to make ANYONE he faced look good. This allowed him to succeed and put on some very memorable matches on his own. I also feel like as he got older and in his TNA run, he squandered most of those gifts for the most part.

But when he was running with the babyface side of his persona last year... the apologetic daredevil who's main weakness was himself... MAN that was some tasty stuff that never really was explored properly. I'm very into that Beowulf type story where a man has to overcome his own ego and demons to grow. Many of my favorite stories run in a similar vein. The Dark Tower. Rome. Star Wars/Lord of the Rings//Harry Potter/ Star Trek /etc. These themes are present in some form in so many areas of pop culture. I thought it was a cool spin and could have been done well. But they ran with Aces and Eights and it was successful in it's own right to a point. I just feel like if they went with Jeff's story and developed it properly he's the perfect guy to bring subtlety and realism to the storytelling side of this business. Could have been different and cool. So me personally, I would go with that if i were booking TNA. But I respect Jeff Hardy and if he wants to run with this over the top darker character I'll buy it for now until I see reason to go otherwise. I just hope it's not TNA''s answer to Bray Wyatt. I'd rather Jeff be doing something new and interesting in his own right. One bizarre promo certainly hasn't swayed me from being interested nor has it made me head-over-heels excited. We'll see.

But to the un/derinitiated, I could certainly understand it coming off that way. OMEGA was a long time ago and a lot of fans have come into the base since then. For those who don't realize what they don't know about Jeff Hardy and Willow, the Bray thing could be a problem.

That and TNA has a bit of a history of countering hot WWE storylines. And past storylines that worked in wrestling companies of yesteryear. They dont rip it off but they take an idea WWE is running with and do it their way.

To be fair i think they've gotten away from it from the most part. But hey, it's wrestling, everybody's ripping someone off.

Even WWE does it. DiBiase paying Andre for the belt so he didn't have to face Hogan or whatever? Larry Zybsyko did that with Killer Tim Brooks a few years earlier in a feud with Paul Orndorff.

Big props to TNA this week. They did a really good job at taking two guys I've been struggling to give a darn about since coming back to the audience and really made them interesting. Gunner holding the World title briefcase had been feeling like a big joke to me. Last time I'd seen him he was a thug in some second rate security force and looking like a big lump of nothing. By promoting his blue collar/military background and playing up the road he took to getting into TNA, it gave me reason to look beyond all that and see why he was in position to fight for the gold. The contrast of the scrappy Gunner and chosen one Magnus really had me into that match. Even though I couldn't really have cared less when I turned the DVR on to watch the show.

And this may have been the best show I've ever seen out of James Storm. The progression he took throughout the show was awesome. Having him counsel Bobby Roode brought back good memories of the Beer Money pairing. And that set the table for me to stay still long enough to listen to him also advise Gunner. Which I'm glad I'm did. Between the two of them it really sold the notion of him being a credible enough presence to be the locker room psychologist. I may never have been big on him as far as being a world title contender. But the idea of him being the veteran backbone of the roster was one I was more than ready to accept. And then the whole "nobody screws you but ME!!" finish. Glorious. I can't wait to see how Gunner going to react to that. I can't wait to see what comes of the tag team title case now. They really awakened me to this storyline. What I could have said just days ago was their weakest story link just got good. Now I can't wait for Gunner to give Storm what for. Well done this week, guys.
