I would be interested but work nights at a hospital would probally play a dwarf team. Throwing the ball interesting concept :)

Sounds good. I think, for a GDS league, we'll just have each pair of players work out a time to for the games.

After the new year would be WONDERFUL for me! I'm moving on from Examiner to US Combat Sports, and I'm heading up my own branch that launches in January. Needless to say, I'm pretty much swamped right now putting everything together for it.

I'd give it a go, sure. But like I said, probably not for a few weeks at best. Too much on my plate at the moment.

So it sounds like January is best for most folks (myself included). The danger with this, of course, is that people will lose interest over the next few weeks, but I still think that this is the most sensible way to approach a GDS league.

Maybe for now, let's see if people that are interested in the league will confirm by:

-posting their coach name (so we can find each other online)

-post their anticipated team (if you decide to change, no big deal - I just want to leave a list of teams on the first page of this thread)

-and what week you would be available to start playing.

For me:

coach name: d_w_w

team: Dark Elves (undecided on a name)

I'm pretty open on when we start. I'll be out of town from the 6th-12th of Jan. and be unable to play, but would be able to play before and after those dates.

Blood Bowl

Just curious if this is essentially the same game as the Blood Bowl from the early/mid 90s. I never really played any table top role playing/board games, but it was an interesting strategy game, nonetheless.

Is this one just updated visuals, or did they change the gameplay, too? Looking at the screens, it looks like it could be the same.

It's not exactly the same game, the rules have been upgraded quite a bit since then and right now Blood Bowl is on Living Rulebook 5... you should definitely check that out and read up on the rules to see if you're interested. Personally I love the game. Anyway...

My coach name is T-Man and I'll most likely play as Chaos or Humans.

Noted and updated on first-page.

Its still Waghlon, not Waghloh :(

So anyway, are there someone here that could be talked into a game later today?

Oops. :( Fixed. :)

OK, I like this game. :)

Coach name is Wallbanger. I'll play humans or dark elves, more likely humans as we have two dark elf teams declared already.

Human team name would be Bad Bay Hackers (bonus points for those who get the reference), Dark Elf team would be Uluitur Stormblades.

Sound good. Going to update the front page in a second.

Anyone have thoughts on a starting week?

Also, might make sense to discuss rules for the league.

I may switch my team's race, as I think it makes things a bit more fun to have each race represented in the league.

<p>Okay, some ideas:</p><p> </p><p>

8 team league (we have 7 players listed, but we can probably find an eighth somewhere). In my opinion, we should all make new rookie teams for the league, as to start everyone off on the same foot. </p><p> </p><p>

Classic or Blitz rules: I'm inclined to go with the Classic rules, haven't tried the real-time version of the game yet. We could do the Blitz rules with turn-based gameplay though, if folks want the extra inducements to be available.</p><p> </p><p>

Match length: We can do 40 seconds, 2 minutes, or 4 minutes. I'd be fine with 2 or 4 minute turns. 40 seconds seems fast to me <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Match frequency: I'd say weekly. Everyone should probably be able to do one match per week, I think?</p><p> </p><p>

Unfortunately, the manual doesn't really give a lot of insight on the league options. I've played around with the options a bit though, and I think we should do a GDS Cup. With 8 players, we could either have everyone play each other 1 or 2 times. This would be followed up with a playoff series (which can include 2, 4, or 8 teams). </p><p> </p><p>

The winner and runner-up would get a cash prize (the game default is 80000 for the winner, 40000 for 2nd, but we could change that).</p><p> </p><p>

Thoughts?</p>

<p>I'm also fine with Classic Rules and 2 minutes for the turn limit. I definitely think we should do all new teams for the league, for league use only to keep everyone on equal footing as far as advancement goes. </p><p> </p><p>

Bestbitter, if you've never played Blood Bowl before you probably don't want to start with Goblins.</p>

As far as I know, the scheduling mechanism works like this:

We set the match frequency to weekly. Then, the server generates the first round matches and everyone has a week to play them. As soon as that week is open, the league's GM can advance the league to the next week.

Thanks for the advice IronFist, I realise the goblins are not the best choice but I figured if I'm gonna lose I might as well lose with a team that is expected to lose!!

Okay, I set the league up. I was hoping to be more creative with the name, but gave up and decided it was time to get things rolling.

The name: GDS League

password: greydog

New, unused teams only. 2 minute turns.

I'll have it generate league matches as soon as we fill up.

Unfortunately, I will be out of town from the 6th through the 12th --- that may not matter, if we will up fast enough, but we'll see.
