praguepride
Some quick screenshots of my favorite map (so far) http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk191/praguepride/map.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk191/praguepride/map2.jpg Yeah, that's right, fighting around the remains of a half destroyed planet. Remianen
Yeah, Birds of Prey own me hard. So I went back to my old standby. Via market manipulation and savvy trading, my Miranda is Mk II from top to bottom, my BOs are all wearing MK II armor and using MK II weapons, I have a few Mk III items banked for when I hit Lt Cmdr and I'm sittin' on 17,000 energy credits. Yeah prague_pride, that's what I was doing once Impact went off. I'll do the diplomatic orders mission a bit later with my tricked out ride. Gonna use the 'back that thang up' strat on 'em this time. Dual phasers and disrupters should peel their caps pretty quick, given how they like to charge in on aggro.
praguepride
I"ll have to teach you how to tank them some time The only thing that owned me last night was a battleship that launched a ton of fighters (3-4 I believe). The battleship was either at level of +1 and rocked my world until I finally switched to defensive mode.
Remianen
I saw someone complaining on the forum about not being able to sit in the captain's chair on the bridge. Odd.... http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/4908/screenshot2010011507453.jpg It works the exact same way here as it does in CoH.
Purple Cowboy
I had a few hangs yesterday in between transitions from the ship to the ground. I also decreased my graphics and am running windowed in order to reduce lag. Weird, my Asus lappy (built specifically for gaming) never lagged out until I installed the STO downloader. Maybe I need more RAM.
praguepride
No, it NEEDS MOAR TRICORDER I had a lot of crashes this morning in the star clusters. I'm starting to really dig those missions as they're mostly non-combat/exploration/find a ton of anomolies kinds of stuff. I just had a mission which was just to go around and collect all the anomolies on the map. I was like "SOLD!"
Purple Cowboy
Yeah, good seeing you in there praguepride! I was only in for about 20 minutes last night and had three crashes. The weird thing about my laptop is that I can dual-box WoW just fine with it, absolutely no lag.
praguepride
It's still beta. I had a few crashes as well. Especially when hitting up the clusters this morning. The worst part about a CTD is that it has to verify all the files before you can play again which takes about 20 minutes or so...
jesterx7769
*ANNOYING NOOBISH REPLY* Anyone know where you can still get a free beta? I never got into any sort of phase after I signed up and it seems the only sites that still have them available from the Star trek online site you have to pay to register for their site and I would like to at least try some facet of the game before throwing down a pre-order just to play it. Thx to anyone that knows anything.

jesterx7769
Thanks for the reply, that was one of the sites I signed up to in an attempt to get a code so hopefully they still have some to give out. While I'm not a huge Star Trek I have always enjoyed it as it was always a bonding them with my Grandpa and I (we used to show reruns and I've seen all the movies with him)
jesterx7769
Have any of you dl the preorder and are playing the beta through Steam? I am nervous about ordering through Steam since I have had issues in the past with Steam as most have
praguepride
No. I got into closed beta so I already had the game. Have you had recent problems with steam? WHen steam first started I had a bunch of problems, but now it's really reliable for me. It's easier then storing all those CD's
MrOnu
Got in the beta today. Well, tonight, I mean for the majority of the day, the server was overloaded; I had to wait for the Europeans to go to bed to sneak in. My first impressions ? Game is okay. Not bad, not good, just okay. Nothing really impressed me, except maybe the beautiful space graphics, but nothing really disapointed me either. Yes, there's glitches, bugs and some serious lag, but those can be fixed with some time. Some portions of the game feel very slow like the Galaxy Map, it shouldn't take that long to move from one system to one another. Space combat too is kinda average at this point, I hope ships gets faster later on, because the starting ship is tediously slow. At least, it's not overly complex so even 3D-challenged people like me can still get things moving on. Only thing bugging me on away mission is how your dumbass crew can't follow orders. The automatic grouping with people doing the same mission is a really feature. Overall, I'd say I have the same feeling I got playing Champions Online at launch. The basis are there, it's a different kind of gaming experience, but it lacks a little something really impressive to keep me playing for a long period (I played CO for two months before cancelling). I can picture myself giving CO another shot later, when the game is more mature in its development, and so far I feel the same about STO. I'll keep checking stuff in the beta since it's free, I'll mess around exploring game concepts then push it aside and play the wait and see game. jesterx7769
I enjoy it so far keeping in mind that it is in beta phase, there are a lot of character options which I like and dislike so now I just have to play through and see which ship/officer type I like
praguepride
For me the space combat is really fun and I'm not really hitting the "Mmo fatigue" that I get with other games. If I want to do some non-combat/ground missinos, I can explore the nebula. If I want to fight & fly again, I can hit up PvP or the PvE stuff. If I just want to cruise around and talk star trek, I can do that too while I play around with costumes and uniform options. As much as people are complaining about the content, it's a variety that's good for me. Also, once you get out of the starting ships, the ships move faster in warp and have much better speeds in space. The newb ships are pretty crappy for Feds. Klingon BoP is pretty awesome speed/manueverability wise, but the starting weapon loadout sucks donkey balls in my opinion. Everything is centered towards your front 45 degree arc which limits my combat options to either surviving or dealing damage, not both.

Comradebot
er, the what? The Star Cluster missions that are created with the Genesis Engine, is what I believe he means. Which frequently have plenty of non-combat missions... though they're also not known for their incredible depth. Then again, they're quick and usually easy, and actually sometimes capture the exploration "feel". I just wish they'd add a few more... and fix some of the bugged ones, like the planet aids. praguepride
Correct. They call it a "star cluster" but it looks and feels like a big nebula to me what with all the gases and clouds and stuff Really, anybody on the forums saying that STO is "too combat oriented" hasn't spent much time in the clusters. Oh yeah, I did one of those! In Delta something, with all the 'anomaly' waypoints in it. They seem random though. I'd love to be able to do away missions tons more but you only get the mission when you 'Enter unidentified system'.
Purple Cowboy
Hey praguepride! Saw you in there yesterday I just ran Surge through that opening "training" scenario to get to Earth Stardock. Should be in there this weekend on and off.
Remianen
Heh, I'm playing wait & see. Last time Cryptic released an MMO, it was completely different on release day than it was during headstart. Fool me once....

Comradebot
Well, I, personally, am having a blast. Even if I'm not happy that the uber-nerfed the first few levels of the game. That said, once the one escort someone managed to very quickly acquire, and then decide the best use of it is to go to S24 and get double the score of everyone else, left... I got the top score! And some nifty blue Impulse engines to go with more my efforts. That's right, I said nifty.

And some nifty blue Impulse engines to go with more my efforts. That's right, I said nifty. Lol, I know what you mean. So...Friday night I believe I got suckered into the Cystalline Entity fleet action mission in Alpha Centauri. Only like half a dozen newb ships across all the servers, spread out like 2-3 per. Well, hours later (and I do literally mean hours) we still hadn't completed the fleet action as the damn thing kept regenerating health. I finally quit saying there just weren't enough people. Well, yesterday I'm playing and I take a peak in. I see that there's at least a dozen people per instance so I join in and see what the fun is about. I log in and see a dozen Tier 2 or 3 ships (escorts and the like). I'm like "damn...." Then the entity spawns and dies within a minute. Seriously. Everyone just gang rapes it and bam. I think I dealt 4,000 pts of damage in teh time it was alive (that's like, 2 torpedoes and a couple beam shots, that's how quickly 250,000 hp was killed) and the top scorer did something like 50,000 pts of damage in just a couple seconds. They were farming the damn crystalline entity. As soon as it died, the top guys were posting what they got, and it was unique III and VI equipment. Oh well, guess I know where to go to equip my new ship when I finally get it. I have to stop playing for awhile because damn amazon didn't ship my game until yesterday. I don't know if I can log on without the game or not, but I think I read that I won't be able to until I get the actual game. It'll all be worth it though when I get my borg Boff. I'm just curious where he/she/it is going to slot into my ship? Is there a borg tactical/science/engineer or are they just universal and can fit anywhere?
