Official TV Show Discussion Thread

My laptop cocked it so I'm going to get a new one tomorrow. Might be a few hours late on the demo but it's first priority once I get it. Anyways, I've been TV ridden for a few days and have been watching a ton of Impractical Jokers. Those guys are just the best. One of the best TV shows if you're looking for a good laugh. Thoroughly been enjoying Ridiculousness as well.

Just finished watching Stranger Things on Netflix.

I really enjoyed it. I definitely think it's worth a watch.

I don't have Netflix but I may breakdown and get it just for that show. I have heard nothing but great things about it.

I am shocked but I really like Dead of Summer. I went into it thinking it would suck because it is on Free Form but it has turned out to be pretty good thus far.

I also really liked Danny McBride's new show on HBO. Granted it is only one show in but it is already a thousands times better than Ballers. Ballers is just pure and utter crap, it sucks to see a legit movie star like the Rock waste his time on such a project.

Also how awesome is it that Curb Your Enthusiasm is coming back? Just hearing that makes me feel...

Long story short, I'm a fan.

Very, very good, IMHO. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

:)

Glad you enjoyed it! I had barely heard of it before a couple of my friends on Facebook were talking about how great it was.

I think I saw a little promo on Netflix a while ago, but I forgot that it was coming out.

So, here's the thing. Everyone keeps telling me Stranger Things is awesome. But, well... it doesn't seem my kind of thing.

Anyone want to try to sell it?

On another note, I finally got around to watching The Man In The High Castle and holy crap is it amazing.

Hmmm... not sure how good of a salesman I'd make, but I'll give it a shot.

The acting's very good, and the chemistry between the actors is good as well, but one thing that was very big for me is the atmosphere. The setting they used was a big draw for me, and I think they kinda nailed it.

One thing I could mention is this below, (and this isn't really a spoiler at all, but for me, it felt like it helped a lot knowing absolutely nothing about the show going in, so I figured I'd try to preserve that for others):

Someone on Facebook described it as an 'extended episode of The X-Files, directed by an early 80s Steven Spielberg". I'd go along with that.

I found it hard to stop watching actually, but I'm trying to pace myself a little, since there's only 8 episodes, but I'm very anxious to get back to watching, probably right after Impact goes off. Sorry if I wasn't that good of a pitchman, I was trying to get through with as close to zero spoilage as I possibly could.

:o

I like it though.

I also got hooked on Australian Survivor. The Aussies are a weird bunch when it comes to voting. Voting out the strategic and strong players first (for the most part)but that is what makes the game interesting because it seems directly contrast the American version.

The funny thing is the fall season has a new casting director so they might have a more diverse cast. I am sick of all the model/actors they cast on the show who have never even watched a season before. The Canadian version has actually been pretty good (Well not season four that was terrible but the first three seasons were great).

What season did you watch? I saw all of the first three seasons and part of the fourth (Thanks YouTube for following stupid copyright laws:D). The fourth season (What I saw of it) was sort of bland to me but I did enjoy the first three seasons. There twists were much better and what was really great was there was no Battle of the Block or any of that nonsense.

So this might be a stupid question, but being from the States how did you watch that ? Or should I even ask? :p

I've heard it's way better..and would love to check it out since the American version has pretty much been blah the last three seasons for me.

Neda really should have won that season but Jon did the right thing in getting rid of her. That was a really good cast, probably the best thus far. I loved what they did with Ika and the letters.

I just got through season 2 of Narco's. If you want to watch a cocaine-fuelled action thriller that may or may not be historically accurate, you can do far worse. Wagner Moura is tremendous as Pablo Escobar but the show has flaws and like Game of Thrones it's simply good and not truly great.

The following is just a nerdy Doctor Who thing...

I read a list the other day where they ranked all of the Doctors from Doctor Who (Even the War Doctor and Peter Cushing. Which I can understand why the War Doctor was included because he is cannon but I have no idea why they would have Peter Cushing on there because his movies had nothing to do with the show). Anyway they had David Tennant listed as the greatest Doctor Who of all-time.

Now I understand that most people who took part in the poll are probably nu-Who fans and they probably did not see much of the original run of the show. But I always thought that most fans viewed Tom Baker as the best. So I was a little surprised over the list. Personally my favorite (From what little I saw of him) Doctor Who was the Second Doctor.

Also, Peter Davidson was ranked pretty low on the list, like Colin Baker territory, which was also a surprise to me. I probably would have put Peter much higher on the list, perhaps in the top five or so.

I think they had Peter Capaldi ranked third which was weird because from the feedback I have read online, most fans are not high on him. I think he is pretty good but by no means would I put him in the top five.

Where was Jon Pertwee on this list? I think he's underrated because he had the least to work with compared to the other actors. He always a powerful presence and without him, I think a lot of those more script-based serials would have fallen apart.

Tom Baker is absolutely the best though, Genesis of the Daleks is one of my all-time favourite Doctor Who serials. There's real magic throughout it because the Dalek's are firmly established at that point as the Doctor's big evils and when he meets Davros, the Doctor has already seen the demise of the Dalek's in the future and here he is at their inception. It's a fantastic "I shouldn't be here and I could alter the course of history one way or another, oh my god what do I do" conundrum and it makes for wonderful television.

I looked through my browser history but I have no clue as to what day it was that I saw the list so it is a needle in a haystack type situation trying to find the list. I found other lists but not the list I looked at.

I am going to have to go by memory and I believe he was near the bottom of the list. Which I found odd because the Third Doctor was my second favorite. I really enjoyed his earth based episodes especially his two dealing with the Autons (Spearhead from Space and Terror of the Autons). Man those 1970's Autons were creepy as all hell. In fact I find them to be creepier than the modern day ones.

Planet of the Spiders might have been my favorite final episode for a Doctor. Though I could have done without the whole chase scene for an entire episode.

Yeah Genesis of the Daleks is probably my favorite story ever on Doctor Who. As you said it was such a great well thought out serial. My friend is really into the new series and I told him how I enjoyed the original show more. So he asked me to recommend him something from the original series, my recommendation was Genesis of the Daleks.

Anyway, the next time I saw him he told me that he was not fond of it and did not watch it all the way through. He said that the show was cheap looking and the acting sucked. Which fair enough I mean it did originally air in 1975, so you really cannot expect it to hold up visually to what is on television now. However, if you can get beyond that and focus on the writing then it is easy to see why many fans love that serial.

I've been watching a few of the new shows this week, and I have to say really loved Pitch and Lethal Weapon, and I wouldn't surprised to see either of them earn a spot alongside Stranger Things on my favorite current shows list. I can't say enough good things about Pitch, and the new Lethal Weapon was a straight up blast for me. A+ for both of them.

I very much enjoyed Bull as well, although I wasn't quite as blown away as I was for Pitch and Lethal Weapon. I do think it's a very good show, and I very much look forward to watching more of it. Solid A.

The new MacGyver... I enjoyed... but something felt off about it for me. For one, I had a really hard time wrapping my brain around someone other than Richard Dean Anderson being the Mac, (why I had no such issues regarding Riggs and Murtaugh, I'm not sure). It was OK, I suppose, but it just didn't impress me as much as the other three shows I've mentioned.

I've got the new Excorcist on my DVR, but I haven't gotten around to watching it yet, so we'll see what it holds in store.
