Official TV Show Discussion Thread

<p>I blew through all of Breaking Bad recently. Possibly the best show I've ever watched.</p><p> </p><p>

On Dexter's final season, I'm a bit underwhelmed. I'm just waiting for some big stuff to happen and all of these side plots are a bit...I don't know, they're just a bit boring for me. </p><p> </p><p>

Jennifer Carpenter is great though.</p>

The last great dexter season for me was season 4. After that, it got progressively more stupid and unreasonable. To the point where Dexter now openly discusses his kills on his Police-issued cell phone.... ugh...

Like if the writers aren't gonna take this crap seriously, sorry, I'm not either.

And Jennifer Carpenter is good. Not great. As long as Game of thrones and Homeland are on the air (and they will be long after Dexter ends this season), she's going no where near an emmy. Lena Heady and Clair Daines are doing stuff levels beyond anything the character of Deborah Morgan requires.

<p>OK so Luther Series 3 finally aired here in the states and I finally got the chance to sit down and watch it (I need four whole hours because I can't possibly turn Luther off).</p><p> </p><p>

AWESOME! Anyone else watching this brilliantly acted masterpiece? I loved the ending and the duality of Luther this season and the internal things he struggled with. </p><p> </p><p>

The thing I love about british TV especially is that the actors seem to be more finely trained in doing the small things right. This isn't a knock on American acting as we simply do things differently. </p><p> </p><p>

These cops look like cops. Not fitness models. They are a little disheveled, they LOOK STRESSED OUT when you see their faces. They aren't cracking corny one liners at murder scenes and showing up in the hair and makeup of a supermodel. The show feels so real and tense due to the brilliant acting, even by tiny little players.</p><p> </p><p>

The star is brilliant. Idris Elba's performance as John Luther is something no human being should ever miss. As good as he was as Stringer Bell on The Wire, he's just more alive as Luther. Luther feels like a more real character to me. The way he wordlessly conveys thoughts and feeligns to the audience as plain as day is so underrated. Anyone can <em>tell</em> you they are mad because they were wrong. It's something else entirely to make me <em>feel</em> it.</p>

I liked that new show Sleepy Hollow a lot. All dark and mysterious, I like that sort of thing. Plus, it had a connection to the Revolutionary War era. That was pretty interesting. Also watching the new season of Sons Of Anarchy.

Yeah I like Sleepy Hollow as well.

SOA is getting very good, it seems that something shocking happens almost every week. I will say that I was really shocked when Otto killed Donal Louge's character off. That was something that could easily been put in a season finale episode and yet they stuck it right at the start of the season.

Poor Donal Louge has had a tough month. First his character gets offed on Copper and then on SOA.:D

I loved the first episode. Haven't seen any more yet (I watch it online). It was a great mix of in-jokes/references and a fun story. I was a bit worried beforehand that it'd be a bit hard to get into if you weren't a big Marvel fan, but it's not at all. Although I do find that I get a bit confused between two of the women, who look pretty similar to me. I guess that'll sort itself out when I learn more about who they actually are. :p

I was trying not to say "the two Asians" because that would seem racist.

But yeah, that. ¬_¬ The reporter chick and the agent, Melinda. There were several scenes where I wasn't quite sure which was which. Especially when Skye starts working with them.

I'm... familiar... with Elizabeth Henstridge. Wouldn't mistake her for anyone. ¬_¬

Has anybody here watched The Blacklist? I decided to give a shot to a new fall series and I have watched the first five episodes now, mostly due to the series starring James Spader. I usually prefer to watch sit coms for the most part, but I've really liked Blacklist so far. There seem to be a few longer story arcs and I can't wait to see the conclusion's of those. They seem to have made Spader a godlike criminal, which is a bit funny, but shows his range as an actor. He's only showing a couple of those Alan Shore mannerisms <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>In regards to Blacklist it is a decent show, not all that great but not bad either. James Spader is great in it but the rest of the cast is just...there for lack of a better term.</p><p> </p><p>

I really like The Goldbergs. I am not sure if it is because it is based on the time period that I grew up in and so there is a nostalgic feel to it for me. But I do have a fondness for the show.</p><p> </p><p>

I also really like Hello Ladies over on HBO. </p><p> </p><p>

Both are a rear thing for me because I tend not to get into sitcoms, well I am not sure that Hello Ladies would be classified as that but The Goldbergs is.</p><p> </p><p>

To me the really good sitcoms died out in the late 90's. Sure every once in a while an Arrested Development will pop up. However, for every Arrested Development you get a show like 2 and 1/2 Men or Moms or Two Broke Girls. Or any other lame ass comedy that CBS tries to shove down our throats.</p>

Sadly, I've missed the last couple of episodes... I'm using watching... something else... on monday nights, and have to keep up with my other shows via the magic of DVR. I've let myself get a little behind on Sleepy Hollow for some reason.</p><p> </p><p> In other news, I'm glad to finally have The Walking Dead back, and I'm gladd that another season of Psych is finally on the horizon.. when that show goes away, it seems like it's gone FOREVER. And while it usually takes a lot for new sitcoms to get my interest, for some reason, I've liked the new show Back In The Game quite a bit. It's fun.</p>

In terms of the new shows:

I'm a big fan of The Blacklist, mostly cuz James Spader seems like the only guy on the cast who actually GETS what's supposed to be going on there, and he brings a Raul Julia-as-Bison level of ham (albeit dry) and cheese (albeit flat, like Swiss or Provolone) to the role of Raymond "Redd" Reddington.

And I love Agents of SHIELD, and will be posting on that thread.

I'll be giving Almost Human a shot.

I LOVE 2 Broke Girls, but got annoyed that CBS shoved it to 8:30 to try and compete with the 8pm Fox shows (Bones, or the upcoming Almost Human) that I actually watch (no, I don't watch Sleepy Hollow because I just can't get behind the core concept of it, plus Fox has burned us before on shows like that--though if Nikolaj Coster-Waldau were Crane I would've tuned in in a heartbeat).

More people should watch Parenthood, it's a great study in the evolution of what happens when the Braverman Family (the actual Bravermans, not their spouses/significant others) doesn't get their way, and how they evolve as people as a result. Amber (Mae Whitman, yo!) and her evolution is my favorite part of the show, and I think every time she winds up crying she should be nominated for an Emmy.

So, I've seen a snippet of a talk show featuring some guy named "Craig Cobb". It was the trailer, and a very entertaining trailer at that. But is it just a joke for entertainment's sake, or it is actually real? The bring a bunch of weird people to the fray, parading them around like a freakshow. We have a laugh, and I suppose it's all made up, but they do make it seem real. They're even announcing his DNA, which is supposedly 14% black. I don't know, google it or something.<img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> It's funny stuff.
