Yeah.

Pull the other one...

I am! And this is my trusted servant, Patsy. We have ridden since... [/Monty Python reference]

Gonna try to do this by phone. Short version: playoffs were run Friday in the likely event of no other training PM's. Someone scrapped my plan Saturday night with a PM, had to re-run the entire playoff bracket, in order to accommodate the PM I received. Just what I get for trying to keep a step ahead of my schedule. :o. Thankfully I was sitting on results before writing anything, so all I lost was the extra time to run matches again.

What made it more angst-ridden for me was that at the time of the re-run, I was sitting as League Champion after a 25-minute epic over Moore. As for what the official results are, you'll find out when I post the show!

What an evil prick that Saturday PM sender in person who I have no idea who it could be.

...

"Well, dammit."

Trust me, the way I feel, a car wreck may actually improve my health at the moment.

Anyhow, content! If it seems lackluster, I apologize--I'm fighting illness at the moment.

Season Two, Playoffs

The interior of Estádio do Maracanã is packed full of both video monitors and fans as an announced crowd of 41,218 let their voices be heard in the summer air. Pyro explodes from the roof of the arena, marking the start of the final week of League action this season as we head to ringside and our three-person commentary team.

Bob Sinclair: It's the most exciting time of the season, folks...it's playoff time! Welcome back to The League, ladies and gentlemen! Bob Sinclair, sitting at ringside alongside my long-time colleague Frankie Garnett and the host of Beyond Ringside, Tori Montgomery. This is it; by the end of the night one of these six participants will be crowned our second League Champion!

Frankie Garnett: I've got my money on Tarik Nolan, Bob. The man has dominated both of the other members of the Gamma Division who are here tonight, I don't see him letting up now, not this close to his goal.

Bob Sinclair: Tori?

Tori Montgomery: I know I picked Phoenix to win, but I was backstage earlier and it sounds like Phoenix might be a bit under the weather due to the climate change. I still think he's going to walk away with the prize, but it's going to be closer than we originally thought, Bob.

Quarterfinal #1: (3) Johnny Triumph v (6) Tarik Nolan

Bob Sinclair: In any event, we're waited long enough. Let's go to the voice of the ring, Amelia Williams, to get us underway.

<object width="28" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1plPyJdXKIY?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0x2b405b&color2=0x6b8ab6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="28" height="25"></embed></object> "Regulate" hits the speakers, immediately drawing the ire of the crowd as a large figure stands in the entryway, backlit by a clear spotlight. Pyro explodes on the stage, causing the light to shut off as the figure finally emerges onto the stage proper. Laughing at the boos hurled in his direction, he takes his time walking to the ring and subsequently entering it for his next match.

Amelia Williams: This is our opening match of the night, a quarterfinal match scheduled for the best two out of three falls! Introducing first, from Shreveport, Louisiana, weighing 292 pounds...Tarik Nolan!

Bob Sinclair: Nolan comes in as the second wild card, but many think that if he can escape the first round, he's got a good shot at the finals.

Frankie Garnett: Well, duh! If he wins here, he gets The Phoenix in round two, and Nolan beat Phoenix twice this season!

Tori Montgomery: What you're forgetting, Frankie, is that Nolan has to find a way to get to the second round. Triumph's not going to be a pushover.

<object width="28" height="25"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cc6rpM7RtB0?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="28" height="25"></embed></object> A remixed version of "Ecstasy of Gold" hits the speakers, which is nearly drowned out in jeers as he emerges from the entryway, a rain of golden sparks falling behind him as he walks to the ring with a confident look on his face. Instead of taking the steps closest to him, he walks around to the opposite side of the ring, drawing in more jeers as he finally climbs the steps and enters the ring.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Des Moines, Iowa, weighing 228 pounds, he is the Delta Division Champion...Johnny Triumph!

Tori Montgomery: I don't know about you gentlemen, but I can feel the electricity in this arena tonight!

Frankie Garnett: That's because of all the video feeds, Tori.

Tori Montgomery: ...That's not what I meant.

Bob Sinclair: Do I have to separate you two already?

END OF SEASON AWARDS

Just like last season, the League will be handing out awards for accomplishments, and a little bonus cash for those involved. Here are the awards in particular:

For making the playoffs in the League's second season, the office of the Commissioner has credited the training accounts of Nuclear Templeton, Sebastian Moore, The Phoenix, Sean, Tarik Nolan, and Johnny Triumph with a deposit of $50 each.

For winning their respective divisions, the office of the Commissioner has credited the training accounts of Nuclear Templeton, Sebastian Moore, The Phoenix, and Johnny Triumph with an additional deposit of $50 each.

For being the most entertaining wrestler as voted by the fans, the office of the Commissioner has credited the training account of Tarik Nolan with a deposit of $50. Honorable mention, but no award, goes to Diamond. (Nolan: 5.79 AMR, Diamond: 5.43 AMR)

For overcoming the greatest odds in a match this season, the office of the Commissioner has credited the training account of Johnny Triumph with an additional deposit of $100 for his week 14 victory over El Demonio de Sangre in Mexico City, Mexico. (Editor's Note: Triumph was at 12% popularity, Demonio at 26% when the match took place.)

There is but one award remaining, and that is for the Match of the Season. This award goes to the two people who were involved in that match. To qualify, a match had to be chosen as the Match of the Night for that particular show. From that field of fourteen, the Commissioner had to pick just one match to win the award. Now, before the winner is announced, let's look back over the season and see which matches qualified for this award.

Week 1: Tarik Nolan starts his reign of entertainment with a win over future League champ Johnny Triumph (22:10, A*)

Week 2: Sean goes to 2-0 with a win over Tarik Nolan in divisional competition (43:20, A*)

Week 3: In a rematch of Season One's Match of the Season, Maxx Skabb defeats Shawn Arrows (38:20, A*)

Week 4: Johnny Triumph wins a First Blood match without making Robbie Maynard bleed (41:50, A*)

Week 5: Diamond pulls out a victory over Sebastian Moore (26:20, A*)

Week 6: SGRaaize gets into the Match of the Season contention with a win over Tarik Nolan (22:30, A*)

Week 7: Scott Stevens takes a victory from the rookie Super Century (17:50, B+)

Week 8: Maxx Skabb and Shawn Arrows wrestle to their second Match of the Night together this season, which Maxx also wins (42:50, A*)

Week 9: Tarik Nolan's fourth Match of the Night is a win over El Demonio de Sangre. (21:50, A)

Week 10: Thor Hammerskald defeats Ly Quang Bao in the longest one-fall match in League history (52:50, A*)

Week 11: In the middle of the Japanese tour, Nuclear Templeton takes down Robbie Maynard (18:30, B+)

Week 12: This week's main event finds Johnny Triumph (3rd MotN) taking down Thor Hammerskald (2nd MotN) (27:20, A*)

Week 13: Maxx Skabb ends his Japanese tour with a victory over Nuclear Templeton (14:00, A*)

Week 14: The final regular season match sees Johnny Triumph defeat El Demonio de Sangre (15:00, B)

Unlike last season, the Commissioner's choice was easy this season. After, only one of these matches was a record setter! As such, he is pleased to announce that the winners of the match of the season award, worth $200 to each of their training accounts, are Thor Hammerskald and Ly Quang Bao for their week ten record-breaking performance in Fukuoka, Japan. Sadly, Mr. Bao will be unable to utilize these funds, as I have informed that the attack on him at the hands of Diamond, Arrows, and Templeton has left him in a vegetative state.

This concludes the awards portion of our program. Below is the Cliffs Notes version.

Johnny Triumph: $200 (Upset of the Season, Divisional Champion, Playoffs)

Thor Hammerskald: $200 (Match of the Season)

Ly Quang Bao: $200 (Match of the Season)

Sebastian Moore: $100 (Divisional Champion, Playoffs)

The Phoenix: $100 (Divisional Champion, Playoffs)

Nuclear Templeton: $100 (Divisional Champion, Playoffs)

Tarik Nolan: $100 (Playoffs, Entertainer of the Season)

Sean: $50 (Playoffs)

PREDICTION CENTRAL

With the higher number of playoff wrestlers this season, it stands to reason that there would be a higher-scoring playoff bracket result. And it didn't disappoint, with a high score of eight and a few sixes appearing on the weekly result board. However, it would have taken a miracle for someone to have bested Mr. I effin rule after the lead he had accumulated all season long. Said miracle did not happen on this occasion, though.

For the record, there was a maximum of 131 points available this season. (14 weeks x 8 matches = 112. 7 points in Tag Team Turmoil, 12 for the playoffs.)

1. I Effin Rule: 86 points (6 last week)

2. Tori Montgomery: 77 points (6 last week)

3. Prophet: 72 points (0 last week)

3. derek_b: 72 points (2 last week)

5. moon_lit_tears: 68 points (2 last week)

5. Ranson: 68 points (2 last week)

7. Jman2k3: 67 points (8 last week)

8. masterded: 65 points (6 last week)

9. SeanMcG: 59 points (0 last week)

9. Dangrel: 59 points (4 last week)

11. Wrestling Century: 50 points (0 last week)

12. Jaded: 33 points (0 last week)

13. TheKenwyne: 30 points (0 last week)

14. Toasty: 4 points (0 last week)

15. Arrows: 3 points (0 last week)

Mr. I Effin Rule will therefore get to determine divisions for season three. Currently, there are 15 confirmed entrants for season three. Following are the potential schedules for both a 15-entrant season, and a 16-entrant season that he may choose from.

1. 15 Wrestlers: Three Divisions

Suggested last season before the last-minute entry of Scott Stevens, this schedule features three divisions of five wrestlers. It will be a fifteen-week season, with one person on a bye week (and thus recovering health) each week. As a perk, he may pick the week his chosen wrestler (Tarik Nolan) has his bye during the schedule. As with this past season, six wrestlers would make the playoffs.

2. 15 Wrestlers: One Division

This is as simple a schedule as it gets. Fifteen weeks, top six advance to the playoffs, and again he would get to pick the bye week for his chosen wrestler.

3. 15 Wrestlers: Two Divisions

The schedule would be set up as the one-divisional variant, but in this case there would be an eight-person division and a seven-person one. Top three in each division advance to the postseason. Again, he would have the pick of the bye week.

Should the League get a 16th entrant, the following schedules would come into play:

4. 16 Wrestlers: Four Divisions

Set up like this past season. Should be explanation enough. :)

5. 16 Wrestlers: Two Divisions

Two divisions of eight, and all matches are contained within your division. This makes a fourteen-week schedule, top three from each division meet in the playoffs.

6. 16 Wrestlers: One Division

Another simple formula. Fifteen-week schedule, one match against everyone, top six advance to the playoffs.

Should it be deemed necessary, a 16 wrestler, three division schedule could be created (divisions of 6, 5, 5 with three division winners and three wild cards making playoffs), but that does not seem likely to be considered at the present time.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN SEASON THREE

There are very few changes being made to season three of The League. The base purse will remain at $600 per match (roughly $450 for winner / $150 for loser). If a sixteenth entrant is confirmed before applications closed, Tag Team Turmoil will be returning next season. The backstage activities ban will remain in effect. About the only major change that will take effect is the following:

New medical contract.

The League has signed an exclusive deal for next season with one of the major medical firms in the world—the name of which I am not allowed to disclose due to a confidentiality agreement—who promise far better care of League members on a weekly basis. Compared to last season, we may see far fewer medical disqualifications, but whether this will be a boon to the long-term health of our members remains to be seen.

(Editor’s Note: In OOC terms, I'm changing the formulae for body health recovery slightly. Instead of 25% all around, head and body are at 50%, legs are at 20%, and arms are at 10%. These values were reached after talk in the discussion thread and some testing on my end.)

Any other news will be covered in two weeks, when Season Three opens! We will have the schedule and the first week’s preview at that time. Until then, ladies and gentlemen, this is Tori Montgomery...so long from ringside!

<hr>

I will be working on webpages likely on Monday, as tomorrow is the Super Bowl and all of the activities that go with it. When those have been updated, I'll announce it in the discussion thread along with any tidbits I need to include regarding it.

I will be opening a new thread for season three (and if we go to four, I'll use the same thread for it—two seasons a thread seems to be a good cut-off point) in the next couple of weeks. I intend on reserving the first few posts in the thread for a number of things, though the first post will be a quick "up to date" snapshot of the League with division standings, prediction standings, upcoming schedule, and so forth. I have plans for the other posts I'm reserving (links to each week's pre-show and actual show from the past seasons as well as the discussion thread and Phoenix's webpage, wrestler bios and career records, a post rehashing the rules of the game for anyone wanting to join in, etc.), so hopefully all of the info anyone would want to know is in one area to be seen.

If there are any questions, either ask them here or over in the discussion thread. IER, any questions regarding scheduling would best be sent to me via PM so it can be discussed in private.

Folks, it's been a good two seasons so far...stay tuned for a third season I never thought would happen when I started this thing back in June!

But, since the match was record-setting, with both workers covered in blood at the end, and ending in a medical dq...well, it seemed like less of a long shot than it could have been.</p><p> </p><p>
