So, anyone heard the Titanfall news?

Maximum game size is 6vs6 (it sounded like the ONLY game size is 6v6), and no modding tools available on PC release (which is odd for a Source engine game).

Mildly disappointing. They say it's because they tested it thoroughly with lots of game sizes and that's the one that "worked best". I call bullshit. There are three reasons I can think of for limiting it at 6v6:

1, they really really really REALLY want to be "the next big esports game" and will force everyone to play in an esports style match until they get their wish.

2, the XBone isn't as great as everyone thought it was and performance sucks a nut with more than 12 players.

3, both of the above.

Either way, it kinda sucks. I'm not one for panning a game I've never played (except for Call of Duty ¬_¬), but forcing everyone to play 6v6 in a (non-arena) shooter is lame. Part of me wants to believe it's due to reason #2, but if that was true why not release modding tools for PC (for a game with a Source engine, I thought they HAD to? I thought that was part of the deal?). The biggest reason I can think of is that they'd have an ARMA/DayZ situation, where someone created a mod with a much higher player count and everyone played that instead of their "big esports title". Cynical, perhaps, but meh.

It's not like 6v6 is the end of the world for me, but it'll put off a hell of a lot of people IMO, leading to reduced sales, leading to shorter game life, leading to me wasting money (especially as I'll almost certainly not buy it until quite a bit after release).

I can't remember the last time I bought a AAA game that wasn't discounted in some way, but it won't have been an online FPS, that's for sure. I have a rule: I don't buy games for more than £15 unless I really really really wanted them BEFORE they were released (ie, it's a game I'm really looking forward to instead of "ooh, pretty thing on steam!"). I've very rarely broken that rule (I did for Dishonored, and probably one or two others). I sure as hell won't be for Titanfall, even if it is amazing.

I've not really got hyped up about Titanfall. It just never appealed to me (being an XBone game and a FPS)

I've noticed more and more games not being able to live up to the hype that they make for themselves so barely even pay attention to games in development.

Changing the subject though, I brought myself an early Christmas present with a PS4 and kinda looking forward to Don't Starve coming out today. What I do find funny is that its a lot cheaper sometimes to buy the PS3 version and then pay the £9.99 upgrade fee.

For example, I could buy Battlefield 4 for £27.99 from GAME, upgrade it to PS4 and its £10 cheaper than getting the PS4 original.

<p>I don't care about shooters in general, and not about Titanfall. But to be fair, given the context and aim of the game (being in titans), it seems logical for it to be 6 vs 6. I guess there could have been a 10 man FFA, but meh. You can't have a gazillion titans falling all around the place.</p><p> </p><p>

Btw: Project 64, the n64 emulator is actually at version 2.1 now (pretty recent). Don't dl from the official site though. It's adware'd. But there are adfree versions circulating around the net.</p><p> </p><p>

Seems like performance has increased somewhat. Played some Wave Race (no difference), but Zelda looked even prettier as before (which is already way prettier then the original).</p><p> </p><p>

Might decide to give Ogre Battle another run, or start playing Hybrid Heaven, which does seem to have a nice and unique combat mode.</p>

Read this in an interview about the upcoming Hex digital cardgame, and quoted it for truth:

"One thing that Kickstarter has taught everybody is that if you provide something upfront and deliver a fun experience, people will just give you money. You don't have to scheme ways of getting money out of them. Players can tell when you're being fair with your game and they reward you for it. They literally tell us "you're awesome and we want you to stay in business."

The only flaw of the kickstarter program is exactly that which makes it so awesome: the lack of corporations shadowing your moves. Almost all project I've known are behind on schedule. While this can definetely be considered as commendable, i can understand it's a little frustrating too for the highest backers. Then again: you obviosuly want a finished game rather then crap.

<p>After checking out a rather fun LP for it, I bought NHL 14 (Ps3) after a near 10 year hockey game drought and boy do I ever suck at it ^^. I really like the right stick shooting and all, it just takes so much getting used to it's insane - that's maybe just me though, who knows. I don't have a main game going right now, been mainly messing around trying to come to terms with gameplay and the (for me at least) rather steep learning curve when you climb up the difficulty ladder, but seeing how I'm German and simply want some nice hockey action (DEL IS in the game but is no option ^^) I might just let myself be inspired to start a Montreal Canadiens GM mode just like the guy in his LP does. </p><p> </p><p>

Anyways, very fun game but it will certainly take me some time to get any good at it. But well, 'tis a challenge I'm looking forward to.</p>

Apparently you can play music for dramatic effect.</p>

As an experienced DayZ player (I've been playing since the mod, and was lucky enough to do a bit of testing on the Standalone before it hit public release), I'd probably recommend you stay away from it for as long as you can hold out.

At the moment, it's in a very early Alpha state; there's very little to do, it runs like an absolute dog, and sadly it attracted the dreaded 'mainstream' crowd. I don't say that to be hipster and all 'it was cool before it was popular', but it's attracted a lot of attention, and therefore the very worst of the gaming community have got their claws into it, and servers are full of morons who will shoot you for no reason whatsoever then proceed to abuse the hell out of you.

It's not that the game isn't good, because it is (or perhaps a little more accurately, it will be), but right now you'd be seeing the game at its very worst, in a state where even longtime veterans like myself and a group of friends who met through playing the game (one of the many positive experiences you can have through the game) have said that we're just not enjoying it and are going to step away for a few months and let the devs work on things and the unpleasant portion of the userbase get bored and go ruin another game.

Re-reading, that seems like a very negative post, but I do genuinely think DayZ has the potential to be something revolutionary, and I'd hate for someone to play it in this very ropey state and be turned off from it, never to return and see what it's actually supposed to be.

Maybe I'll buy it, and play it next morning. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I'm a '90s child though ('86), so no real xp with those kind of shows. Can you give us the main references? What show do you need to know to get the most fun out of it?

<p>I mean there's references that go over my head to a degree but trust me you'll get a vast majority of them. But as far as the ones I've noticed so far? Everything from as obvious as GI Joe, transformers, Micheal Jackson, and CareBears to as deep as Reaganomics lol.</p><p> </p><p>

It's like $5 if you're into nostalgia gaming at all it's a ton of fun. If you aren't I'd definitely let it pass.</p><p> </p><p>

Me personally I've been on a bit of a kick of brand new games that look like they were made decades ago lol. Also getting a lot of play out of Nimble Quest, which is a very simple expansion on the "Snake" game.</p>

Kingdoms of Amalur - Reckoning is on sale on Steam right now, bought the full pack including all DLC for 11,99 - looking forward to it. I hear it's a little too easy perhaps so playing on hard is advised, but eh - I'm always up to some RPG goodness. Bring on the weekend ^^...

I FINALLY passed the f'n colossus that made me give up on Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2.

I got SOTC on the PS3 as i got Plus for a year, then after a day of being raped by the fifth colossus, i reached the eighth, the killer turtle that made me give up on the game years ago. It was a moment that deserved to be comemorated with ''We are the Champions''. Now i'll just go forward and beat the game after years and get platinum.
