Same thing happened to me, my Son was just over a year and he bought GI Joe 2 and Twisted Metal Black somehow. Called and they refused to refund me the money even though there was no money in my Sony Wallet and my settings were set so that PSN couldn't automatically draw from my account to complete a purchase.

It only cost me about 20 bucks but really GI Joe 2, please...

To be fair to your son, Twisted Metal Black is a fantastic game that you should've already bought. ¬_¬

GI Joe 2 though... ouch...

Finally got to play Elite: Dangerous last night...

Oh.

My.

F******

God.

I tend to over-enthuse about stuff I like, so for contrast and to make my love for this game stand out, that's all I'm going to say.

You buy games from the store, they are then put into your library to be downloaded whenever you want. I've been a Steam user since Half-Life 2 came out and it has definitely matured into a great digital gaming platform. Community's about 75% poison though. Then again, it is a gaming community, so that's about 20% less poison than most.

I pretty much get 95% of my games from Steam. Haven't had a single problem with it in the past 7 years or so. Great sales from time to time, especially the Winter/Summer Steam sales where it's 66-90% on various titles.

However I do NOT save my credit card info or anything like that, I always type everything in each time I purchase something, I believe there was some problem few years back where some hackers might have gotten some info like stolen credit card information from Steam, correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah I think Steam got some hacker issues a few years back, but I sorta managed to forget details - I think however things got resolved with everyone who was involved in the end.

There is one thing one must know about Steam - digital rights management. When you buy a game on there, there is NO reselling it. Once a game is in your library it stays there forever, not sure of course if that is important to you Timber. Obviously none of us long-time Steam users here care for that but just saying. Steam also functions as copy protection (and the only one) for most of the games on the platform, unless you count in UbiSoft games that are also on Steam and need Ubi's launcher on top of it.

And like Swanton said its just a launcher and uses pretty much no system resources at all. You have your library, the shop and forums for every single game mainly (and an area where you can personalize your account a little) and that is that basically. I guess a computer would have to be pre-WinXP to have issues to be honest.

There is a ton of payment options Steam offers on an aside, don't worry you will somehow get rid of your money. There are also often enough sales to the point where buying a game for full price (unless you REALLY want that new game NOW!!!) is kinda unneccessary.

I mean I can of course not claim I speak for everybody here but I definitely have games on there I haven't even touched once so far - granted those are also from bundles and what not but still, sales you know <img alt=":o" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> ...

But yah, I like Steam. Hell, I am out of room to store anymore games in boxes since years (I am getting old and never sold a single game ^^), so being able to download/install a game I own on Steam is very handy.

It's logical you can't resell. The money you would gain from reselling would make the games a little cheaper, but Steam games are already cheaper in the first place, so what's the point.

They finally have Ascension, which is a great game. Unfortunately, the game seems to be crappy in terms of interface/programming. A pity. I would've bought it instantly.

So far there's Witcher III and DA III to look forward too (well: for me <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />). Other than that, I don't really feel like something big is in the making.

I am German, and far as prices here go, we usually pay 1:1 to the $ price (very few exceptions) in €. That aside, there would of course be no point to sell a game right away - but later eventually. But also like I said, I wouldn't do it anyways and it doesn't bother me, but just had to point this out. Steam games for us are not cheaper than elsewhere unless there is a sale. It's why I check around official key sellers (greenmangaming.com, or humble store etc) for offers too cause I usually get a better deal there.

True, but honestly: when is there not a sale? You'd be a fool, or just very willing to give money to a developer (in my case: Paradox), to buy games on release. They're bound to be in a sale after a couple of months. The bugs will be fixed, it will actually be playable, ... I see nothing but benefits. So many internet companies who do their sales separate. All you need to do is wait just a little while. Given the size of backlogs I can't see why that's a problem. Mine still has BG:EE, BG2:EE, Divinity:OS,... Updates keep releasing so I keep waiting for a finalized product. It's a bit foolish actually.

Sure, there's sales in retail stores as well, but it's nowhere near the benefits of a Steam sale. I still take 60€ as the standard. Sure, it used to be even more, but games were better than. Now even console games are way cheaper online (amazon for instance), and quite frankly that was the only reason I was still getting them as it's simply not worth the money anymore.

Look at this for instance:

http://www.nuuvem.com.br/produto/2567-batman-pack

That's less than 5€ for 3 recent games.

Yeah sure, there are always sales - it's why this doesn't really bother me. I just basically wanted to point out that for Germany, Steam in 95% of the cases isn't cheaper here than elsewhere. Except sales obviously - and I can tell you that right now I wouldn't be able to tell you when I paid full price for a game north of 45€ the last time.

While Steam is great, if you're going to get into PC gaming, it'd be wise to make a bookmark list of digital shops. I know that for me, when I want to buy a game, I'll search 10-15 shops before purchasing it, as someone usually always has a great deal on it. For example, FIFA 15, got that for something like £25 on a deal in it's launch week, but can't remember where from now... This website is also quite good for finding a cheap version, but it only counts 'sales', so if a store usually sells a game for £30 but it isn't a sale, and another store sells the game for £40 but has it on sale for £35, then the first store won't show: http://www.isthereanydeal.com

Steam has a nice library feature in Big Picture, but personally I use XBMC as a launch platform for my games on my HTPC.

You can also add non-steam games like TEW to the program so you can launch everything from it.

There's no way to play my Steam games without having the Steam client open is there? I don't use it often, but it always seems to use quite a bit of resources on my laptop(which isn't that powerful to begin with).

It's not that big of a deal because I hardly play, but I'd probably play my games more often if I could exit the client.

I wear glasses and while i can use the normal resolution, i find things easier to see and read once i bump it up a bit. I haven't have any trouble with any other game, though i mostly just play Star Trek online. TEW is impossible to play at 125 percent. Things like Youtube and Twitch work fine for me as well. TEW is just a weird kid.

I'm not sure how GTA will run at this resolution but i'll cross that bridge when it comes to pc and i buy it again. :)
