The Video Game Thread

So I have come to the conclusion that I don't play much beyond Indie games, so I"d have to fight you on this one. While this game is beyond fantastic in it's own right, I'd have to say that Binding of Isaac Rebirth would take the award for me.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I've got to admit though I have not played any of the 'Binding...' games yet. From videos etc though they do look fun indeed.

Very much so. You can pick up the original on Steam for very cheap.

While I do love love LOVE This war of mine. I've found it interesting to make the decisions on what to do while in dire straits.

Is it that hypocritical, or just ironic?

Mostyle just a sad year for gaming. :p

I haven't played the Wolf game; not sure if I ever will. Voted Divinity because it was the only game that intrigued me this year (barring WMMA4 obviously but that's usually not an option in the polls :p), but only played it for an hour so far. And it'll probably take a while considering we just got WMMA4.

My problem with Divinity was that they released the other two companion characters just as I was getting a decent way into the game, and now I can't bring myself to replay the whole of the start, but also don't want to keep playing while I know that I'm missing out on content...

I'm just sort of waiting for 'forget' about the beginning of the game so I can start a brand new save. :p The actual game itself is fantastically fun.

I did that with Skyrim so many times. I hate the intro though. Not being able to skip that long as heck carriage ride is obnoxious. I play on PS3 so I can't even skip it with a mod. I just started a new Wood Elf character and so far it's the most fun I've ever had with the game. I'm playing as an Assassin archer type. I usually rely on magic in the game, but so far I've primarily used a bow and one handed weapons with the only magic I'm really using being restoration. Fighting dragons is far more difficult with the bow, but still doable.

I just wish Bethesda would announce Elder Scrolls 6 or Fallout 4 at some point soon. I'd be all over either...especially if the next Elder Scrolls game is actually about the Argonians like rumors suggest.

See, that's what I mean. It's awesome the devs (for Div:OS) and the community keep making and updating content, but if you want to enjuy it you should start over again...and again... and again and again and again. :p

You should just ignore the community for a while when playing or you'll get nuts from repetition. I could probably do the first Skyrim dungeon blindfolded. But you do realise the Alternate Start mod exists, right? And fighting dragons is harded without ranged imo, at least in my mod setup.

As I stated in my post, I play on PS3. So no mods for me. As far as dragons go, I basically used a lot of Lightning Bolt and Thunderbolt in previous playthrough as it's instant and doesn't require travelling time of the projectile.

With Skyrim I just save right before character creation (I think it autosaves there). Then make sure you rename the save when you save it next time so you don't overwrite it. Then you can skip the cart ride.

I think my love affair with Sony may well be over.

About a year ago, I had a PS3 linked to my account that I was unaware of and because of that, I couldn't play my own game on my console.

Now, my 11 month daughter randomly hit buttons on my controller and purchased a £40 game. I cancelled the download right away, but they refuse to refund it

Same thing happened to me, my Son was just over a year and he bought GI Joe 2 and Twisted Metal Black somehow. Called and they refused to refund me the money even though there was no money in my Sony Wallet and my settings were set so that PSN couldn't automatically draw from my account to complete a purchase.

It only cost me about 20 bucks but really GI Joe 2, please...

After some thought, i looked about and saw no reason not to get Fire Pro Wrestling Returns(currently Downloading). Any help on getting mods for it and how to instal them?

By mods I assume you mean saves where players made WWE, WCW, ECW, etc. guys and rings. You can get those pretty much anywhere, I used GameFaqs for instance, though I have no clue if you can even transfer PS2 saves onto the PS3.

Seems that when you look at the overview for a game you already have on disc, it gives you the option for buying a digital copy</p>

<p>So mm, didn't want to create a separate thread for my picks for the Game Of The Year stuff so here it goes.. Mind you that a.) I didn't purchase a lot of games this year right away, 95% of the time I wait until they are on sale for a better price b.) these are just my picks, I hope I can explain them as best as I can and c.) I have weird categories <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> So here we go:</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BEST GAMING EXPERIENCE 2014 & BEST HARDWARE INNOVATION:</strong></p><p>

<strong>Elite: Dangerous & Oculus Rift Development Kit 2</strong></p><p>

</p><div class="ipsEmbeddedVideo"><div><iframe width="200" height="113" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/5jTRbmUzc8o?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" title="Beta 3 Trailer HD"></iframe></div></div><p>

I bought the Oculus Rift DK2 HMD this fall and I also bought the Early Access version of Elite: Dangerous to go with it since there aren't that many games that support Oculus Rift yet and I was assured that E: D brought the best gaming experience. Combined with the Saitek X52 HOTAS -joystick and throttle system, the feeling is simply unexplainable when you are flying in your very own spaceship in virtual reality. The full version of E: D got released today, I haven't yet tested it since I just got home but it looks super awesome and while the DK2 is still a prototype, I still provides a great experience for a game enthusiast. Can't wait for next summers real, finished, higher resolution and better latency version of the Oculus Rift; It's going to be a game changer for sure! </p><p> </p><p>

ps. Youtube is full of DK2 videos, you guys should check em' out if you haven't already. Best demo for the DK2 is called Sightline: The Chair which I've loved to show to my friends <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BEST MOD 2014:</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><a href="http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/88/?" rel="external nofollow"><strong>"Long War" for X-COM: Enemy Unknown/Within</strong></a> </p><p>

I simply can't get enough of this game. Those people who are on my Steam friends list, you've propably seen me play that game for several hours each day for a month now. 8 classes, 8 MEC -classes, totally revised aircraft vs. UFO fights, spawn points, perk trees, squad sizes, weapons, tech trees, everything. The game was 9½/10 with the Enemy Within expansion, with this mod it's a clear 10/10 for a hardcore strategy gamer. If you are into turn-based tactical games, this one should be a no-brainer for you. Would be my game of the year easily but the original game is already a few years old.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>STILL PLAYING 2014:</strong></p><p>

<strong>Planetside 2</strong></p><p>

</p><div class="ipsEmbeddedVideo"><div><iframe width="200" height="113" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/5GeCH45K9_U?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" title="Planetside 2:"></iframe></div></div> &

PS2 is a F2P game that I've been playing for two years now, most of it with the subscription + boosts and whatnot. I don't even want to know how much money I've spend on the game but it's been some 1600hrs of great moments, amazing fighting and playing something completely different that you can't get anywhere else. There's always action, always something to get from suit slot upgrades to new weapon, whether it's infantry, tank or air.. I have one character on each faction (3), ranging from Battlerank 69 to 99. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>GAME OF THE YEAR 2014:</strong></p><p><strong>

Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor</strong></p><p>

</p><div class="ipsEmbeddedVideo"><div><iframe width="200" height="113" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/4rbOTQhasnM?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" title="Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Launch Trailer"></iframe></div></div><p>

Might be a weird choice since I haven't actually played it that much but it's one of the few that meets the criteria (being released this year, others were games like Wasteland 2, South Park SotT, The Wolf Among Us and Divinity: Original Sin) that I have in my library. I just have a feeling that when I really start playing this, I'm going to really, really like it. To me a game must have a lot of replayability in it, I hate story-driven games that end when the story is over or if the game is short. This one has lots of DLC going for it, lots of content and the Nemesis -system is here to stay. The only complaint thus far is the restricted FOV, I've heard there are some work arounds for it but I haven't yet tinkered anything so we'll see. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

There you go :3 My weird picks for 2014, next year we'll be having GTA V and the Witcher III!</p>

<p>Over the past few weeks I played:</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>South Park: The Stick of Truth</strong>. It was a really really fun game, it was just too short. I totally didn't expect to have as much fun with it as I did.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Wolf Among Us</strong>. So much different from Walking Dead, and I really enjoyed the plot line. It was another Telltale game where I didn't feel as if my choices really affected anything, but it was an enjoyable enough game. I had no clue that it was a comic series. I may look into the comics now.</p>
