This was a pretty damn important show so I'm going all out on the review. Since PWC only exists as a fictional element in game-save of a fictional character I've NO idea what kayfabe this exists within...but let's just run with it shall we?

When Smarks Attack: A review of PWC TV Episode #1

By The Celt

So fresh and so Clean...

It's hard to know where to start but I'll go with the strongest feeling I got from the show: This was so professional, it really felt like properly produced television. A big gripe I have with a lot of wrestling shows is they don't treat themselves like other traditional TV shows, fighting for a television audience. Just like your drama shows or your CSI or even your sitcoms wrestling shows need to have strong characters with worthwhile plots so the viewer can invest in something. This show did that with several well produced back stage segments, mostly notable in the Sam Strong/Nicky Champion segment.

That segment brought that much needed sense of gravity to the viewer. It was a segment that rewarded wrestling fans' intelligence by giving them some drama around characters they're already invested in while it served as something that'll catch the eye of the casual viewer by showing wrestling isn't just meatheads clobbering each other, but a theatre showcasing the human experience. Personally I like a bit of drama sprinkled into my wrestling every now and again to heighten the tone somewhat. So while done to PWC there.

The Great White Shark (is the Elephant in the room)

Another interesting segment was the "Peak isn't here" one, although it's bound to draw out the same critics who disliked how Peak was handled in DAVE. For those of you that missed that debate, many suggested that in the final years of the company Peak was treated in kayfabe as a heel but as a face by the audience. This was largely because while Peak raged against the best faces in DAVE the audience latched onto Peak personal struggle to free himself from his "handler" Nemesis, which resulted in a large part of the audience going nuts for their own personal manic hero. To some, Peak was like Marvel's Deadpool, just without the massive comedic stylings.

But back on point, this does seem to be a rethread by Vibert: While Peak is on the heel side of things being aligned with Vibert's character, it seems almost inevitable that the audience will sympathise with Peak's struggle against the mastermind as he seeks to be free to butcher half the roster. But then I think to myself...Is this Vibert's plan along. Vibert has been known to cast aside the trapping of the face/heel divide from time to time and I wonder now if he's doing again with his latest experiment in PWC.

New York City: Where are you taking us?

On a lighter note: The NYC Street-fight was very, very good. Something about the gritiness of New York really sunk into me, calmly saying "This ain't USPW any more" (despite the fact they had experimented with a little bit of DAVE's hardcore style since Caulfield came on the scene). I suppose the hardest hitting part of the match was Peak's bump into some glass. It's a hell of a gamble by PWC. Straight away your saying to the audience "Time for the kids to go to bed", but on the other hand your inviting an audience looking for something that feels modern. In some ways the move is almost comparable to the move the Harry Potter franchise is making: The early films were acceptable for children, but now they're moving into much darker stuff. Hell, the film visibly LOOK far blacker now, and parent are now keenly aware that Death is a theme on the cards in the most recent movies.

Will that approach pay off? It's hard to say. SWF and TCW both sit on the fence when it's comes to drawing an audience. SWF neither draw in nor push away their adult audience; supporters of the like of Christian Faith have argued that his feuds have been "epic" enough to draw in adult audiences without having to push kids out with too mature content. TCW never seem to have a concrete plan to capture a demographic, they mostly seem content with producing the best in-ring wrestling they can and letting the whoever watches that follow. In the end I guess PWC's leap towards one part of the audience has paid off in some ways. Early rumours suggest the "final" USPW show jumped the audience by a whole 1.00, but whether this was audience who truly thought it was the "final ever" episode or not cannot be decided yet.

The Hope Spot

The Main event was quite the match, but the same issue that I brought up in my review of last week's show happened: What reason should the USPW fanbase have to stick around when their heroes are getting beat down? Yes, Enygma came off with the solid victory over Charlie Thatcher, but I honestly thought Champion was going to go over Law since "beating" Strong last week. Personally I pictured a roll up victory, with a battered Champion lifted an injured arm in defiance of the new Vibert regime. Considering Sam Strong was lifted for dead on the side of the road, a part of me was hoping for something the USPW faithful could pop for.

I don't know, maybe I'm not giving the USPW fans enough credit. Perhaps they too know that Vibert will one day have his come-uppance. I just leave it said that at the moment the new USPW, PWC, is far more willing to be grim than then even a few months ago ever was.

Wrapping Up

Bryden took the women's title on free TV, but it's excusable as Vibert tries to mold more actual plot around the women's division rather than a random series of matches. EXCESS' placement with Sara Silver in the background of the show was a nice nod to continuity. While I don't Charlie Thatcher will turn on Davids, as least not for a long time yet, it does add nice character depth that he's doesn't just take any abuse laying down. Kudos to PWC to paying addition to the details.

Thanks for reading.

“The jump in your TV ratings (+1.01) is astounding.”

“……”

“I mean it.”

“I appreciate that. I was waiting to see if you were being sincere or not.”

“I am. Sincere, I mean.”

“I think we’re on the brink of going national.”

“Really?”

“Look at our popularity. We’re just shy in one or two regions.”

“You’re right, Phil; the Great Lakes region and the Northwest. You’re just short. That's why the ratings jumped.”

“…….”

“Well, switching gears I guess….”

“…..”

“……”

“You don’t have to. What did you want me to say just then?”

“Nothing, Phil. You’re…..”

“We’re just short, interview guy. JUST SHORT OF NATIONAL. In what? Three months?”

“….”

“That’s impressive, end of story. A few more strong TV shows and a good pay-per-view and we won’t need to be talking about how close we are…..”

“I know.”

“….”

“Is it OK for me to go on with my next question?”

“…….”

“…….”

“Sure.”

“Ok, then. You had some TV news for us, right?”

“Yeah, we re-upped with Sports America, but I only took a one season deal.”

“Why?”

“Well, for one thing, they put the screws to me a little bit more than I had hoped with the cost split and the revenue split.”

“Like how?”

“You don’t want to know. Trust me.”

“…..”

“I had the feeling that we’d be pushing for national sooner rather than later, to be honest, but I didn’t expect that it would be SO soon….. so I had no reason to go shopping with that in mind. None of the bigger networks wanted to hedge their bets against us going big, mind you, but none of them wanted to give us the exposure on their network either. Not until we’ve earned it.”

“So you stayed with Sports America short term on purpose?”

“I did. And I’m counting down the episodes until we are free from this particular contract, because our next one is going to be a big deal on a big network that can actually help us out rather than the other way around.”

Somehow I missed these. Sorry about that.

Absolutely Excellent, one of the best show write up I've ever seen, the new TV title is beautiful, a reaper best in the business was a great touch, Eddie Peak and the whole moving in, with the set being put up was really good< and the addition of Emily Royal will be cool. Now the transition to PWC I can really, really get behind this, can't wait for this going forward.

I'm glad you enjoyed the show. And I'm glad Reaper can get a credit for being the belt master that he is. I'm going to break out the PWC World Title he did soon on either the next show or the PPV. It's jaw dropping, really.

I'm glad you like the new direction we're taking too.

Heh... Good to see Emily getting use elsewhere, too. ;)

I hope we see some kinda legal ramifications in Eddie's future... beating up other pro wrestlers and not going to court actually has genuine real-world legal precedent, but property damage on a city street, caught on camera, deserves at least something doing with it.

Don't worry, PS. I didn't forget that fact. I once did an ill-fated storyline in my SWF diary that went a bit too far for some readers. I'm not going to go too far down that road again. We'll be keeping it real this time....or at least as real as wrestling gets. :)

BUT ROXY ROX MY SOX.

We know. She's blocked you on Facebook, too. :D;)

ONLINE EXCLUSIVE:

SAM STRONG CHALLENGES PETER VALENTINE

Posted on: SAM STRONG.COM VIA PWI.NET

Sam Strong appears via a fairly crappy phone cam, coming to the front page of his website at 12:14am from a stall in the emergency room in the early morning hours after the last PWC TV. He has a large cut on his forehead that is being stitched up by a resident, but it doesn’t keep him from making his point, as he is as intense as ever.

SS: “Peter Valentine, I didn’t think you could make this thing between us any more personal, brother, but you did.”

He flinches just a bit as the doc finishes up.

SS: “I don’t know how and I don’t know when, but I am going to end you.”

A small square bandage is applied over the wound.

SS: "For real, Peter. I'm going to get my hands on you and when I'm done, you're going to be so messed up, you're never even going to think about wrestling again."

He grits his teeth.

SS: "You'll be lucky to walk, let alone wrestle, when I'm through with you, brother.'

Emily Royal: From the Office: Making Rumors Official

Hey all. Had some news and notes type of stuff to go over. I guess keeping you fans informed of some of the backstage tidbits via this blog is part of my job description. I guess I should've had a better lawyer read the contract. Actually, my lawyer is Phil's lawyer. I never thought of that until now.

Anyway....

Tyson Baine vs. Enygma Cage Match Announced for the PPV

PWC Genesis will feature, as its main event, a steel cage match pitting the World Heavyweight Champion, the monster Tyson Baine, against the man he unmasked, the now highly motivated Enygma.

But before that……

Phil Vibert Makes Open Challenge to Enygma; Enygma Accepts, will face Rick Law in PWC TV Main Event

It turns out Phil Vibert was indeed paying very close attention to Enygma last week, as after last week’s show, in the minutes after he signed the PPV Main Event match between Baine and Enygma, he sent a contract to Enygma for next week’s PWC TV. It was quickly signed and returned by the number one contender to Tyson Baine, setting up a match between he and Vibert’s strong-armed enforcer, Rick Law.

This is the Week......

If you've been waiting for T-Rex to face someone other than local cannon fodder, this week's PWC TV will feature the unbeaten man beast T-Rex against someone picked by Phil Vibert specifically. Who will it be? I'm not sure, but I know it won't be Ben Williams. He'll be setting up the ring and putting it over the whole time without knowing it.

I’ll have more next time…..

But until then, here’s the whole lineup for this Wednesday’s PWC TV.

Emily

Enygma vs. Rick Law

Build him for the PPV DQ win

Belle Bryden vs. Joanne Rodriguez –Women’s Title Match

Dunno

EXCESS vs. Peter Valentine/Casey Valentine

Sam could get involved?

Darryl Devine vs. Roderick Remus

Darryl's better and moreover, he's more over

T-Rex vs. ???

I'm tempted to go with the streak ending now sowing PWC has so much more difficult for top guy to win but I have to RESPECT. THE. STREAK

Essentially my picks are exactly the same as 20LEgend but with one addition:

but I know it won't be Ben Williams. He'll be setting up the ring and putting it over the whole time without knowing it.

Ben Williams vs. The Ring

Ben Williams will job to anyone. Even inanimate objects!

Enygma vs. Rick Law - You need to keep one of the USPW Faces strong, don't you?

Belle Bryden vs. Joanne Rodriguez –Women’s Title Match - No title change on free TV, I think.

EXCESS vs. Peter Valentine/Casey Valentine - Isn't this heel vs. heel? Anyway, EXCESS are part of the new regime and shouldn't be losing here.

Darryl Devine vs. Roderick Remus - Squash.

T-Rex vs. ??? - But he might have to expend some effort!

Enygma vs. Rick Law

If Law wins this I will be shocked. Face needs the momentum, even if it is a DQ win.

Belle Bryden vs. Joanne Rodriguez –Women’s Title Match

Title change on TV? No thanks.

EXCESS vs. Peter Valentine/Casey Valentine

Hard to call, but Peter is in a big angle so should win.

Darryl Devine vs. Roderick Remus

Free Point.

T-Rex vs. ???

Yeah, like your going to end the streak already. Another Free Point.

Enygma vs. Rick Law No way Enygma walks out of this with a win... well, maybe by cheap finish, but winning is the Law

Belle Bryden vs. Joanne Rodriguez –Women’s Title Match J-Ro's as good as they come, which is why a big win at an early stage legitimises Bryden

EXCESS vs. Peter Valentine/Casey Valentine Although you could have Casey drop the fall, I see EXCESS as chasing the win in this one

Darryl Devine vs. Roderick Remus I like R-Rod, but he's not in Devine's class

T-Rex vs. ??? Welcome to PWC. You're not a big enough name to tease a PPV debut on, so you're not going over Rex.

Enygma vs. Rick Law

One of the faces needs to remain looking strong, or you leave the fans with no hope...my feeling here is that Engyma gets the win but Law get's some heat back with a post match beatdown.

Belle Bryden vs. Joanne Rodriguez –Women’s Title Match

Don't see Belle dropping the belt this early into her title run, as James Casey said a strong defence over an opponent of J-Ro's calibre can only help to solidify Belle as champ.

EXCESS vs. Peter Valentine/Casey Valentine

EXCESS have debut with plenty of hype, but Valentine is getting a strong push through his feud with Sam Strong. My feeling is that EXCESS dominate the match but the Valentine's come away with the victory.

Darryl Devine vs. Roderick Remus

Squash

T-Rex vs. ???

The opponent will be stronger than Ben Williams, which means they will also be stronger than 'The Ring' but the streak for T-Rex continues.

Before the cameras can get a clear shot of what’s happening, Sam Strong emerges from the madness, slowly stepping over the wallguard amidst a sea of well wishes and back pats. Sam grits his teeth, but nods at Vibert. He knows.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “But even more important than that, Sam. You are not currently under contract with PWC, or anyone else for that matter. You CAN’T wrestle Peter Valentine. He’s one of my athletes and he only wrestles who I tell him to.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Sam starts turning red and yells some half-words at Vibert.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “Sam, I know you’re upset. I understand you want to get Peter Valentine into a ring where you can mete out your issues. And against my better judgment…..”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

He smiles.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “I am going to make it happen.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Sam claps and nods, but realizes it isn’t going to be that simple when Phil doesn’t move the microphone from his lips.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “Now Sam, I’ll give you your match against Peter Valentine, but in order for me to make it work for me, you’re going to have to agree to a couple of conditions.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Sam nods again. He’d agree to anything to get his hands on Valentine at this point.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “First, I get to decide when you get the match and what type of match it’ll be when it happens…..”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Sam nods and mouths ‘sure’.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “And, Sam, I get the opportunity to set you up with a tune-up match on PWC sometime before the PPV. Sound OK?”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Sam nods and the crowd begins cheering, expecting “Legitimate American” to hit any second, but it does not. Instead, Phil gets the last word.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “Then it’s settled, Sam Strong will take on Peter Valentine at Genesis, type of match to be determined by yours truly, live on pay-per-view.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The crowd cheers. He’s still not done.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “And TONIGHT, in the second of our two main events, Sam Strong will step into the ring for a tune up match….in.which he will face……..”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

A camera close up.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The crowd is hushed as Sam’s jaw drops.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Aaron Andrews vs. Jumbo Jackson</strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Result: These two have wrestled each other before and their familiarity with the other shows throughout. Neither one wants to budge an inch or make the first mistake…. but one has to, and it’s Jumbo, who walks into a back elbow after taking a bit too much time trying to get Casey Valentine into position for a double-team on the floor. It is a mistake that quickly leads to the finish. Andrews comes at Jackson quickly with a barrage of chops, reddening Jumbo’s muscular chest as it pushes him into the corner. And after coming out with a rough looking running bulldog, Andrews gets Jumbo into position and drops him down onto his head with a wicked piledriver. Casey Valentine can only shake his head from the floor as Baby Jamie counts the three, giving Andrews the win.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Phil’s Story Notes: Aaron Andrews came out of last week’s four-way with a big momentum boost even without getting the win, and I’m hoping that this win will help him even more. Jackson was made to look strong in the match and I’m hopeful that he gets something out of the loss, overness-wise, regardless of the fact that he takes the fall. This also puts their storyline into full motion.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

The camera slowly pans across a busy, upscale and modern workout center. It’s full of young hard-bodies - male and female - in tight clothes, working out with vigor. The camera stops on two familiar faces - Spencer Spade and KC Glenn. They ignore the camera for a moment. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Finally, Spade turns toward it.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Spencer Spade: “Recognize this place? Probably don't. It’s called a "gym". It’s where people like us come to "work out". Those words probably don't mean anything to anyone in the former USPW or watching at home, because you clearly never visit a gym or work out.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

KC Glenn: “S'right.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Spencer Spade: “This is where people like us come to get stronger... faster... better... Everyone else around here just gets... older...”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

KC Glenn: “Don't forget fatter.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Spencer Spade: “Fatter and uglier. See, we didn't come to USPW or PWC to win a title or two. To make our names. No, we came to rebuild the place. Reinvent it. Things are changing... and we are the catalysts.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

KC Glenn: “Cattle... Lists...”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Glenn makes the ‘longhorn’ symbol with his left hand</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Spencer Spade: “We're here now.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The two turn back to their workout, lifting significant amounts of weights with shocking ease.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Phil Vibert is taking a call in his office as the varied members of his faction mill around doing their various things. Rick Law stands in front of a floor length mirror sneering and spinning his baton out of its spot on his belt like a gunslinger, drawing it, spinning it, and replacing it. Charlie Thatcher sits on one end of a leather couch, legs up on the glass coffee table, talking up both Ryan Holland, PWC’s newest referee, and Jay Fair, who is still being courted by Phil in hopes he’ll take the head official position.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Des Davids sits over by himself in a chair by the door, lazily flipping through a magazine. And when Phil finishes up his phone conversation, he heads Des’s way.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “Des, you have a minute?”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

He sits on the arm of the chair; the question was quite rhetorical.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “I don’t know how to tell you this Des, so I’m going to do it straight up, man to man.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Des finally looks up from his magazine, folding it and putting it in his pants-pocket.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “Des, I just don’t think that you’re cut out to be in this group. I mean Law, Baine, Thatcher? These guys have been in the ring with the best in the business; they can be counted on to carry a promotion.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Des is stunned.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “Bottom line, you’ve just been losing too much. That’s all. It’s not good for you and reflects poorly upon me. You were supposed to be my project, but you clearly don’t have the ceiling I thought you did.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “And I’m not releasing you from your contract or anything. We’re not going to beat you down the second you turn around. You’re also free to continue working here in PWC.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

He slaps him on the back.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

PV: “Just not under my protective banner, is all.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Phil gets up and heads toward the door. Law and Thatcher follow closely right behind him. Suddenly the locker room is very empty with just Des sitting by himself. He lets out a long sigh.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

DD: “Thanks, I guess.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Law and Thatcher are gone, but Phil leans his head back in.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Phil’s Story Notes: A momentum builder, story forward-er, and, flying under the radar, a tryout. Some of the matches we’ve had him in to job have come in with slightly higher grades than I expected, so I decided to give him a look in a match against someone who can really go and someone who could potentially make him look as good as he has been making his opponents look. Also, I love the idea of really reinforcing the cowardly aspect of Devine’s character by having him use the cast even when he shouldn’t have to.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

<em>Result: Bryden’s prophecy comes to pass; Alicia Strong does not make an appearance at ringside before, during, or after this bout. However, Joanne Rodriguez, who has been somewhat of an enygma in her time with the company, sees everything come together and wrestles the match of her life. But with Bryden having not one, not two, but three other women accompanying her to the ring, J-Ro is in danger constantly. As she climbs the turnbuckles, she gets pushed to the floor by Raven while Jen and Kat distract referee Baby Jamie using their feminine wares.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

By the time Rodriguez is back in the ring, she is done. But Belle Bryden, perhaps looking to send a message, destroys the latina sensation with a second spinning back kick after dropping her with the first only seconds before. With the match in the books and the three count in the wind, the four women stomp the beejeezus out of Joanne, leaving her battered and semi conscious. </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

<em>Result: The speedy Hocking and Skye are a much better tag team that Peter Valentine and his nephew Casey, tagging in and out fluidly and scoring with a number of tandem attacks. And for the period they isolate Casey in the ring, keeping him away from his corner, they look on the verge of victory. But when Casey lifts the rope cable and crotches Remmy Skye, he is able to roll across the ring and tag in Peter who cleans house. He destroys Skye with a running boot, blowing him through the ropes to the floor before focusing his energy on Matt Hocking, who gets short-arm clotheslined and then eats a vicious shoulderbreaker. Peter covers the motionless party boy and waits for the count before realizing Baby Jamie is busy counting Skye, the legal man, out. A few seconds later the match is over and Jamie yells his decision to the ring announcer. Skye finally struggles back into the ring and has words with him about the decision, claiming that he had beaten the count. Without warning, Peter sneaks in behind him and wallops him with the glistening silver head of his now ever-present walking stick. </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Phil’s Story Notes: As much as I like EXCESS as characters and as a tag team, there is no way I can just put them over Peter Valentine without any story or build up. Fresh off of a main event level feud with Sam Strong, he has overness to burn, and that’s why I put both Casey and Jumbo Jackson with him, to help them out a bit. Hocking and Skye are going to be all over this show for the foreseeable future anyway. Besides, who needs a win/loss record, this is pro wrestling. Well, T-Rex does, but other than that. So, hopefully, they’ll get some overness rub off even in the loss.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

After a commercial break, Peter Valentine chastises Jumbo and Casey about how, even though he has been successful in the ring, both of them have now lost to Aaron Andrews in back to back weeks. He grabs a backstage staffer and shoves an envelope full of money into the scared kid’s department store blazer pocket, telling him to go to the booking office and make sure that he has a match against Andrews scheduled for next week.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Enygma vs. Rick Law</strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<em>Result: This is just as hard hitting a battle as last week’s Law versus Champion match. Law is just a rugged brawler who makes every single move look as stiff as stiff gets. And Enygma is driven in a way that he has never been before, looking straight toward his showdown with Tyson Baine and blowing through everything in his path.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Everything progresses as you might expect with two men this talented in the ring together. However, the finish is anything but predictable. </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Enygma is just about on the brink of slapping the “Enygma Variation” on Rick Law when Charlie Thatcher, on the floor in Law’s corner, grabs him by the ankle. The referee sprints over to Thatcher and gets him off of Enygma as the formerly masked superstar twists Law’s ankle into position. But as he and the ref go back and forth, Thatcher tosses Law’s nightstick high into the air and well over the tiny official’s head. Jaime doesn’t see it and conveniently it lands right within the struggling Law’s reach. He snatches it quickly and smacks Enygma with it, not a flush shot but hard enough to get him to let go of his ankle. Baby Jamie turns back to the action just as Rick Law gets to his feet, gets a running start, and laces Enygma with another baton blast right between the eyes. He has no choice but to call for the disqualification. The bell sounds as Enygma begins bleeding out onto the canvas; Law orders Thatcher to pull Baby Jamie from the ring as he begins a brutal beatdown of Enygma that doesn’t stop until he is done.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

SD: “There’s no doubt that Phil Vibert is behind this. He’s the puppet master pulling this maniac’s strings!”</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

ER: “Wow, Doakes, you’ve got a lot of nerve.”</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

SD: “What?”</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

ER: “Last week, you called Charlie Thatcher a meathead and tonight you have the nerve to call Rick Law, a good god-fearing man of justice, a maniac? You’re treading on thin ice, Doakes.”</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

SD: “I stand by it.”</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

ER: “When I report back to Mr. Vibert about it and he has to come talk to you, we’ll see how much you stand by it.”</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Phil’s Story Notes: Very traditional build up to the big match fare here. Law keeps his heat with the beatdown and Enygma gets put deeper into the underdog role for his eventual blowoff with Tyson Baine by taking said beatdown. And I really like having Law in this role, too. He’s straight up no frills bad ass and we’re portraying him as such. Anyone who remembers the fun babyface cops shtick and comes in expecting it will be sorely disappointed.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Nicky Champion looks around the backstage area hastily, very obviously trying to find Alicia. Belle Bryden, fresh from the shower, with her hair in a towel and wearing a loose white robe, leans against the door of her locker room and calls out to Nicky as he passes.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

BB: “If you’re looking for Alicia, she left the arena close to a half an hour ago.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

She pauses for effect.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

BB: “She was crying, too.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Nicky stops. He is concerned. Gullible and concerned.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

NC: “Crying?”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Bryden works her hardest to hold back her smile. It must be hard for someone as evil as she.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

BB: “Yes, crying. Because of you and her father, if I had to guess. Your relationship is driving a wedge between them.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Nicky furrows his brow.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

NC: “A wedge? But why would ……”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

She interrupts.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

BB: “I don’t think he approves of you. Sam, I mean.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The very thought of it makes Nicky mad and he storms past, but Belle, true to recent form, hollers after him.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

BB: “Maybe he approves of you as wrestler, or as his successor in the business. But he doesn’t want to have anything to do with you as a son-in-law. Ask him to his face and I bet he’ll tell you as much.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Nicky breaks into a trot, fumbling around in his sweatshirt pocket for his cell phone. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Tyson Baine is just backstage, pacing in a deserted hallway, his chain wrapped around one of his fists and up his forearm. As he snorts and talks to himself, rolling his shoulders forward, he notices the cameraman and beckons him closer.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

TB: “Come here, little man.” </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The camera jockey is scared beyond belief. You can hear him behind the camera begging Baine not to hurt him.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

TB: “No, little man. You are not tonight’s sacrifice.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

He looks into the lens.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

TB: “Tonight, that honor is yours Sam Strong.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

TB: “And that sacrificial bloodletting will be done on behalf of Phil Vibert, but it is something I will take pleasure in. Enygma, I hope you see yourself in Sam Strong because what is in his immediate future is also in yours.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

He twists his face into a very scary contortion and reaches out quickly toward the cameraman, who nearly faints. But the lunatic Baine just lightly slaps him on the cheek and smiles again.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

TB: “Now you can go. It’s time for Sam Strong to feel the pain.”</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Tyson Baine vs. Sam Strong</strong></p></div><p></p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>-World Title Match-</strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Result: The match is out of control straight from the opening bell. Sam knows that the only way he can stay with the monstrous World Champion is by taking things right to him and trying to turn the match into a fistfight, where anyone has a puncher’s chance to land a lucky bomb.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

But Baine is not just a man, he’s THE man, and as he should he eventually and violently turns the tide on the ring legend, slowing him with a running shoulder on the arena floor before military pressing Sam into the front row.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

SD: “And let’s be realistic fans, that’s an old man he just hurled into the crowd.”</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

ER: “An old man that agreed to this match as part of the stipulations set by your boss, Phil Vibert, to get the match against Peter Valentine he requested.”</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

MS: “Wow. Have you no shame, you company parrot?”</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Baine puts Strong through the ringer, touring the whole ringside area and really taking advantage of referee Ryan Holland’s leniency.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

And when Baine throws the battered Strong back into the ring and T-bone suplexes him leaving him motionless, he looks to Phil Vibert on the floor for a signal, which he gets.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

He stomps on Strong once or twice before signaling to the crowd that it is “Hades Bomb” time. And when he lifts Strong off of his feet and throttles him against the mat with it, the crowd goes silent. But when Sam kicks out at 2 ¾, Baine can only stare at him. The fans come to their feet as Strong, after kicking out of Baine’s finisher, begins shaking his fists and slowly getting to his feet, first to one knee then fully upright in Baine’s face.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Baine rears back and slugs him, but it doesn’t phase the fully puffed-up legend who begins wagging his finger in the World Champion’s face. Strong deflects another overhand right from Baine before turning and launching himself into the ropes. He comes off with a monstrous head of steam and pulls back, setting up for a “Strong Arm Tactic”. But when he crosses to the other side to get even more behind it……</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

…..Phil Vibert reaches under the bottom rope and trips Strong up. Referee Ryan Holland is clearly out of position, but looks up at the last second and begins bringing up his hand before locking his eyes on Phil Vibert and quickly putting it back in his pocket, letting things continue.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

With Strong stumbling, he is again mortal and therefore easy prey for Baine, who walks up and catches him unaware, lifting him high before drilling him into the mat with a second “Hades Bomb”. </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

SD: “Sam’s in big, big trouble now. I can’t watch.”</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

MS: “But Sam isn’t alone. Nicky Champion has got to be backstage watching this.”</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Nicky Champion IS gone. His music doesn’t play. But, as Baine grabs hold of Strong’s throat and looks to be on the verge of “Hades Bomb”-ing him off the top rope……</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Enygma climbs through the cables just as Vibert has convinced Baine to exit the ring on the other side, saving the fight for another day.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

SD: “When that cage lowers around these two men at Genesis, and they have the savage war that we know they’ll have, both of their careers will be altered forever.”</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Phil’s Story Notes: Sam Strong doesn’t have hardly any of the skills he used to have, but he’s still got a boatload of overness and I made good use of some of it here. I love making him look like he was on the brink of winning the World Heavyweight Title on free TV and then pulling the rug out from under the fans. They would’ve crapped all over it if I had made a title change like that on TV, but for a second, when Strong was on top of Baine after the “SAT” and everyone was counting in unison, those same smarks that would’ve hit the message board running after the title change actually looked up from their keyboards for a second or two because it looked like their was going to be a real transcendent or important moment. It turns out it was neither, but how many times could you say that any episode of UPSW American Wrestling over the last four or five years had even a near miss moment like that? It’s PWC’s second week.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>
