RELEASE: One Year Later - CVerse 2011

Recommended Posts

It's January 2011, it's the Cornellverse. And a lot has changed: NOTBPW has ceased to exist, the Canadian Wrestling Revolution has begun, Sam Strong is back on SWF Television, Hell Monkey is ZEN's newest superstar, SOTBPW is now called SELL and dominates Lucha Libre like never before... Welcome to... One Year Later - Nachtfalter's vision of a 2011 Cornellverse!

The hype thread with a little information about some of the happenings in each of the game's areas can be found here, but you can find about all of it just as well by simply downloading the mod, opening the game and taking a look around for yourself.

Big thanks go to Adam Ryland for a kickass game and the original CVerse that feels so much like home; to all the great artists who contributed graphics to TEW and specifically to FINisher, jhd1 and Jtlant who kindly gave me permission to use some of their work in the mod!

Comments, suggestions and discussion of any kind are welcome, of course. If you find any typos, mistakes or what you perceive as balancing issues, please drop me a message in this thread or via PM, so I can fix whatever may be wrong for possible future versions of the mod.

Well, I think this all seems like the real deal up until the point where we see NOTBPW eliminated.

NOTBPW being gone just feels too moddy, and not very c-verse-like. There just wasn't anything in 2010 that suggested NOTBPW was heading in that direction. I know situations pop up out of no where, but I still think NOTBPW had something to contribute to the c-verse. I think I could have lived with a bunch of stars leaving after the whole Stone family issues, and then just leaving the company to Victoria for her to rebuild.

USPW looks nice. I was kind of WTF when I first saw Giedroyc, but the explanation in his bio made up for it. The Enygma thing is a cool story, but I think a new masked, knock-off gimmick would have been better than "Gene Curtis." I like Train's new name, goes well with the promotion. Sayeed in USPW feels weird, don't know if I approve of it.

Didn't notice anything too drastic with TCW, other than some new teams and groups. The workers go well together in them, which is good.

SWF looks fine. Was expecting more releases and more fresh talent, but it looks ok.

Right I'm still waiting for the game makers to unlicense my old game as I can't get onto my laptop :p

so could anyone give me a rundown of whats happened to USPW? As they sound like the most changed.

I'd love to hear the reasons in the bio given for Giedroyc and also the Enygma situation most of all if possible :)

ok been looking around for near an hour and the biggest glaring thing I saw was Syd Collier is on a written with MAW and they are still small size

Yep, that's definitely not intentional. It'll be fixed in the next version. Thanks for pointing it out. If anyone else finds similar things, please go ahead and tell me!

I don't really mind if it feels moddy. It is a mod. I'm sure the "real" CVerse will have developped in a completely different way by the time Adam blesses us with a new TEW or an official world update or something like that. And I knew killing NOTBPW would make some people unhappy, but I had my reasons for doing it and I stand by them although I'll also freely admit that I never liked NOTBPW in the first place.

I actually went back and forth between the bland Gene Curtis (props to Derek B and his CVerse 97 mod, btw, that's where I picked up the identity) and "The Enigmatic Warrior". As you can see I ultimately went with Curtis. One of the reasons was that I didn't have a picture of an Enygma with a different mask that is of a quality similar to Jtlants renders I ended up using. "The Enigmatic Warrior" still made the mod, but only as an alter ego for Enygma/Curtis.

Didn't notice anything too drastic with TCW, other than some new teams and groups. The workers go well together in them, which is good.

Well, Tommy Cornell turned face. I guess that could be considered a drastic change by some. But overall, I felt I couldn't completely revamp all major US promotions and since SWF and especially USPW had quite a bit of talent rotation, I kept TCW's roster mostly the way it was.

To everyone, thanks for the kind words - I'm glad I didn't keep this thing strictly to myself and I hope you have some fun! I'm off to play some WMMA 3

Since you were so nice and positive in the hype thread, I'll gladly shoot you some info...

From Enygma's USPW bio:

In 2008, former SWF champion Enygma was poached from the Supreme roster on an obscenely large contract by USPW, which is seen as the official start of the war between the two companies. Appropriately enough, SWF owner Richard Eisen ruined his formerly great relationship with Enygma when he publically revealed Enygma (who had been a complete mystery even to the smartest of marks up to this point) to be none other than former SWF midcarder Gene Curtis. Eisen also sued Curtis and USPW for using what he considered SWF's intellectual property and forced a character change that took all the momentum Enygma had built in his intense feud with USPW Champion Tyson Baine.

Now using his real name, Curtis is struggling to seperate himself from the pack and USPW is stuck with a star that has lost his luster but still costs a whole lot of of money.

From Giedroyc's bio:

In 2010, he took a big money offer from Sam Strong and jumped ship to USPW. A move, he may have regretted as the company has done little to showcase Giedroyc's talents. A circumstance especially surprising considering the amount of money they pay him.

And finally, here's an overview of the USPW roster changes:

ADDED Arnold Westberry

ADDED Playboy Jake Sawyer

ADDED Big Train Bowen

ADDED Eddie Chandler

ADDED Gentleman Jim King

ADDED Grunt

ADDED Jack Giedroyc

ADDED Johnny Bloodstone

ADDED Krusher Karloff

ADDED Mark Smart

ADDED Running Wolf

ADDED Sayeed Ali

ADDED Stink

REMOVED Sam Strong (to SWF)

REMOVED Micky Starr (to SWF)

REMOVED Alicia Strong (to SWF)

REMOVED Belle Bryden (Free Agent)

REMOVED Cherry Bomb (to CWWF)

REMOVED Nicky Champion (to SWF)

REMOVED Peter Valentine (to SWF)

REMOVED Raven Robinson (to 5SSW)

But now I'm really off to take GAMMA to the top!

At first I was disappointed with how little was done with my favourite promotions (CGC, AAA, BSC) but playing CGC now and loving what you've done with Donte Dunn. He's a guy I often hire, and ends up a directionless job guy, but having him be mentored by Jack, essentially having Donte replace Steve in the family... Awesome. I love it.

Going through CWR roster and I had to say Richard Coleman getting kicked in the head by a horse and returning is hilarious did you add that yourself.

Also after you see all the big changes it's nice to see some of the small changes as you go through the game in the Random Bios, Show reports and such, if anybody hasn't seen this yet I recommend giving it ago :D

This is really interesting.

I understand the logic behind not really changing TCW, but if you did, I just can't get it out of my head that Gil Thomas is going to buy them. Their financial troubles, combined with Gil's bio (it says he finances west coast groups and he's waiting for the right time to make a run at Eisen)...it just seems very logical. Maybe TCW steals a big name or two from SWF to legitimize the war...

If you were really looking to shake up TCW, and more of a shakeup in the UK, you could have Tommy leave entirely and use that money to open his own promotion in the UK...there's already one in the default database, the NWF, that's a TCW clone. Maybe he buys MOSC and ROF to give him some talent to start with.

That's just an opinion though...not meant to take away from a very good job putting this together. I like what you did with NOTBPW and SOTBPW...I hate both names with a passion like you, and I actually think there is precedence for NOTBPW simply closing down - it happened to CWF when Ed Henson died.

After so many years, I was sick of that stable.

The war with CWR... it's kinda easy to win. It's not much of a war from my side.

Enjoying my CWR game quite a bit. So much so that I've updated the graphics for them and thought I'd share.

Included in the RAR are a new Logo and Banner as well as four title belts: CWR World Heavyweight, CWR World Tag Team, CWR World TV (for when I get that far), and The Unsanctioned Canadian title.

The logo and banner I've made from scratch. The final product isn't all the great on account of I still use GIMP and a lot of the detail is lost when saving as a .jpg. Admittedly, the titles are all ReapeRs work that I've just pasted logos on. With the obvious exception being the Unsanctioned Canadian title, which is merely the default NOTBPW Canadian title that Streetz found in the trash, "spray painted" CWR over top of, and insisted Omar Brown start defending.

Hope you guys and gals get some use out of these. Cheers. :)

EDIT: Anndddd the RAR didnt upload...let me try that one again. :|

EDIT2: Couldn't get the board upload thinger working, so mediafire it is! Anyone else that wants to host go right ahead: http://www.mediafire.com/?6u2kdqxbxd52icm

EDIT3: So it seems I put my first version of the CWR logo in the pack. Heres the updated version (I like how the uploader works NOW!) :

EDIT4: I swear this will be the last one. Just a minor gripe when running CWR. Keeping in mind I'm only a few months in. It seems for a company that hasn't been open for very long, everyone and their mothers contracts are coming up SUPER fast. I'm losing Cahill because I've been keeping up with the steady push and he's WAY too over. Nomad, Brady, and Frost as well have come up in the first three months. I see Wizard, Coleman, Vilbert, and Atherton are all coming up in the VERY near future. And damn near everyone else before the year is out. I'm not liking my chances.

I'm glad you like it (although I appreciate feedback both positive and negative). I don't think I could ever bring myself to let Tommy leave TCW and go back to the UK simply because when I first got into the CVerse I played almost exclusively as TCW and the promotion is closer to my heart than most others

I did consider giving TCW new ownership and more money, but I felt that their roster was so good that playing TCW would have become too easy if they had a lot of cash on top of all the talent, that's why I decided against it.

The idea I came up with was have Cornell open NWF with Jennifer as the owner. I then set Tommy to PPA deal with both TCW and NWF. By having his wife as the owner, he won't accecpt any other offers due to loyalty.

So glad you dumped the "no lose scenario" that was NOTBPW. Ditching them and spreading their roster out over the rest of the existing universe as well as new smaller companies balances out the North American scene a lot.

I like.

It seems to me that XWA has taken over that role, although they start out much smaller than NOTBPW, so while it's an easy build, you still have to build, and watch out for poaching.

Speaking of poaching, I'm running 4C right now (kicking off my 4th year) and my roster hasn't been poached as much as I expected. With NOTBPW and their written contracts gone, I don't have much to fear and still have most of my original Main Eventers. Only Jacob Jett has buggered off to Japan. It's made things easier, but I guess I was kinda looking forward to a lot of roster turnover.
