CBH: Render Thread

Recommended Posts

Since I was in the mood, I also made an attempt at Comicizing Iron Guy...

Aside from the shine and sketch lines coming off around the outline (which was just me being poncy), that's all photoshop. So I think Sebsplex may be heading in the right direction when he says it can all be done after the render (although it'll probably still be easier if the render looks less realistic in the first place... simple skin textures, clumpy hair, exagerated features (big chiseled jaws, etc), that kind of thing).

While what I've done is in Photoshop, I'm pretty sure that whatever techniques I used (i'm still testing things out, although I think I'm finding some good combos) would translate to GiMP, if anyone is interested.

We can mix the stylings so it looks like a variety of different artists instead of having a uniform methodology. But I like what I am seeing so far. I quite like the cartoony effect that Daz3d gives it as well which I didn't think I would.

Oh yeah, for sure. I wasn't suggesting that my style was apex of civilization or anything :p Just that if anyone wants to do renders but aren't able to figure out the toon shader in Daz, or feels more comfortable doing it in post, is all.

I actually think that the best style (if such a thing exists) would use some form of toon shaders to render it all, and then photoshop for touchups and fine control over the line edges. Unfortunately I have no talent in the first area, so I'm stuck with the second :/

Well, here's my attempt at creating something other than a fighter. I guess he can be a poor man's hero...or villain/monster.

Also messed around with the cartoon settings a bit, not so great though:(

My first full test render. Still have a few things to work out, but hopefully off to a good start,

Great ink lines J Silver and Lucky.

J Silver, I really like the shading settings you've got as well. Seems like the only thing left to do with the renderer is get it to recognize those less-obvious inside lines (such as his lips, costume collar, locks of hair and eyebrows (the latter two could be really difficult though)).

I wonder if it'd be possible to manuallt influence the renderer to recognize something as being a hard edge (and therefore thicker line)? Such as by drawing a line on texture or lighting it a specific way... I'm completely guessing though.

London, I especially like that last pose you created of that girl. Very dynamic, like she's running to the scene of the crime

I tried an old character I created called Death Ghost Preacher.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y237/Dotty_gogo/DeathGhostPreacher5.jpg

Millionaire, playboy, rockstar, ordained minister Tracy Ghost's life changed forever the night he was beaten nearly to death while his favorite ho was murdered by a gang of thugs. Luckily, a renegade, genius scientist found him just in time to attempt a highly advanced biomachanic procedure to save his life, leaving him with arms made completely out of super-charged robotics.

Tracy realized that to exact his revenge he must travel to Japan to master ninjitsu. With his new super powered war-machine arms, and his martial arts training, Tracy Ghost left his old life behind to become Death Ghost Preacher. He is only five feet tall and rides a motorcycle.

This is not a serious character, but actually a parody of the brooding anti-hero archetype - like Wolverine, Batman, or The Crow

Still messing around trying to get the comic book look.

Excellent work guys, here is my first superhero render, I dont have photoshop on this PC so I didnt get a chance to put the filters in

What kind of textures/shaders did you use for the blue suit Trell? It kind of gives me that soft Pixar vibe, which I'm really digging. I'm wondering how that would look if it was tweaked to be used for the face somehow. Very one tone, but the ambient occlusion (I'm guessing that's what's giving the soft shadows) keeps it from being too flat (at least on the suit... no idea what it may end up doing on the face).

Just fiddling around right now. All but one of these was a render I had already made, just changed it up to fit the theme.

Tough one. I prefer the shadows on the face on test-7b, but I prefer the shadows on the suit on test-7a (the sharp contrast of them, specifically)

And one more from me,

Really cool stuff that one. Any chance getting a shot from slightly below, looking up at him (like he's blasting away from us)? I'm curious as to how it would look.

I effin rule, any chance of posting the background from your renders by itself? That's pretty sweet

This is fabulous.......Might just be what I go with :)
